Hi!! Before you read this or try to take this down please just consider reading this instead of being so hateful. I don’t mean to spread hate onto any shippers but I do believe that Inuyasha’s fandom has a major problem that needs to be addressed. Trigger warning for pedophila,child p*rn and grooming.

Why Sessrin is problematic.

Sessrin is a very popular ship among the Inuyasha community. If you are a shipper of this pair you won’t have to worry for lack of content for it. Rin is a injured child character that is introduced in the original Inuyasha manga in issue 14. She meets Sesshomaru in the forest and even though she is going through a lot at such a young age her kind self still tries to help him out. Sesshomaru at first does not care for this child who is tending to him. He tells her to mind her business and has her leave. Soon after Rin is killed by Kouga’s pack of wolves and Sesshomaru with his demon power scented her blood and comes to save her with his Tenseiga. After this Sessshomaru decides to take in Rin and protect her even though he had a hatred for humans. A “similarly” shippers like to compare Inuyasha and Kagome’s relationship with but their relationship is not written with romantic tensions..

The reason why Rin was written and VERY important in Inuyasha is because she is the reason why Sesshomaru became a better person. He no longer hated humans or wanted to go against his brother. This broken human child Rin looked up to Sesshomaru who was a powerful older demon. Sesshomaru grew a soft side and it was because of her caring innocence. You could easily see their connection as father and daughter or Sesshomaru as a guardian for her. Never did he have the thought of getting with her when she got older and Rin never developed a crush on him. Why? Because she is a child who lost her parents and now has this person who protects her like one. People may say that Jaken was the father figure for Rin but I don’t agree because unlike Sesshomaru he did not care for Rin and only handled her to please his lord. Jaken would call Rin many negative things and go off at her. Rin was annoyed by Jaken. He is certainly not a parent figure for her. Sesshomaru provided a stay aside him to lead for Rin which she followed. Rin was no longer alone. She had Sesshomaru’s company now. Even if he was not very good at taking care of her he never wanted her to get hurt or killed again. He is new to this “taking care of people” thing after all especially humans...young humans. Sessrin would destroy the growth of Sesshomaru because it can’t be denyed that their relationship represents this much more than a romance waiting to happen. When Kagura came along Rin told Jaken joyfully she bet Kagura had a crush on Sesshomaru this small moment reminds you she a is a child that lost her parents and could be seeing this as a opportunity for Kagura to become her adoptive mother. And most Sesshomaru cosplayers would use their daughter to cosplay for Rin. Usually making the picture taken seem like Sesshomaru is protecting Rin or having them both share a cute bonding moment. Why? Because that is how their relationship is meant to be established. For a Sessrin cosplay to work people would have to age up Rin and her design or else the cosplayers would receive negative feedback. Now moving on to how aging up Rin is not okay either.

People claim they only would like to see these two get together once Rin is older but that is almost as bad as shipping Sessrin while she is a child. Sesshomaru saw Rin grow up. He raised her for a while as his own this needs to stop being denied in the fandom. For Sesshomaru to impregnate Rin is out of character. And seems like a sick fanasty. He is not that kind of character. He wouldn’t touch Rin in that matter. Even if she was in her late 20’s. He respected child Rin and would still respect her older. Sessrin is like if a babysitter got together with the person they use to take care of as a kid. It’s disturbing!! Not cute. Rin does not deserve to be fedished.

It’s actually terrifying how much child p*rn there is of Rin. I feel so ashamed by even coming across one by mistake. Don’t use the excuse that Rin is a fictional character. Enough with that excuse. Let’s throw that excuse away. That excuse of “it’s fictional it does not matter..” only works for certain things like when someone assigns headcanons for their favorite character or ships a non-canon pair that isn’t problematic. Not when we are speaking of drawing nsfw of a fictional child. And fictional or not. Rin is a child and every grown person who has drawn smut of her should be ashamed and even arrested. If you see a fictional child in this matter what knows what could you lead you up to see an actual kid as this too. It’s a big problem because there are so many people who have gotten away with this. It’s so easy to find a image of child Rin without any of her clothes on or being r*ped by Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru would never r*pe anyone. It’s quite sad. Kagome was saved from being sexually assaulted by Mukostu because of Sesshomaru. People has even brought doujinshi comics of Sessrin making love or may I call it child p*rn in disguise? Be honest with yourself. It really is just that.

Everyone finding out would be horrified. Excluding Hanyo No Yashahime which majorly changed the characters. Sesshomaru and Rin being together would make everyone uncomfortable even Miroku who has before asked a child if she would bare his kid. Which Inuyasha,Kagome,and Sango reacted very badly to. And was yelled at for it. They do not tolerate pedos nor grooming. Kagome especially would be against. She referred Rin as the girl many times and puzzled together that Sesshomaru took care for Rin. Many people bring up that Kouga proposed to Ayame when she was a kid but remember that was never in the original. Sunrise created Ayame and added this other plot in order for Kouga to have someone at the end. Which is sad because this could have worked if Ayame met Kouga and gained a crush on him instead. She was a cute character after all. In the manga Kouga remains by himself since Kagome stayed with Inuyasha. Now I am definitely not a fan of Kouga and Ayame. I despise the fact Sunrise only created her to be Kouga’s romance interest but having him tell her he would marry her once she was older was even worse. This was a choice Sunrise made not Kouga’s original character. The reason why Kagome does not call out Kouga on this is because she did not know Ayame was a child at the time he proposed. He never mentioned it but if he did I’m certain Kagome would have not tried to keep setting them up together knowing this information. And just a reminder that even in real life some Inuyasha voice actors such as Richard Ian Cox and David Kaye voice actor for Sesshomaru does not support Sessrin. Adding on shipping Rin with Sesshomaru is like shipping Shippo with Inuyasha or Kagome. Weird right?? In the Manga Sesshomaru’s Mother Inukimi says that Sesshomaru is like his father in the strangest of ways after saving Rin again. No this doesn’t mean that he will soon come to love her romantically because Inukimi did add “In the strangest of ways” and refers to Rin as a girl like Kagome. She means that Sesshomaru had now changed and that he cared about someone who was a human like his dad who also cared for them even though they are both demons.

It’s funny how the sequel claims girl power but does not know how to treat it’s female characters. Kagome and Sango are both introduced as Inuyasha and Miroku’s wives instead of their actual character. Now if you not a woman please do not have a say in this unless you wish to agree but this is very sexist Sunrise. I’m not exaggerating how upsetting and disrespectful it is to see you introduce these strong main female role models like this. Inuyasha and Miroku were not titled as husbands of...so why were Kagome and Sango? I’m sure 99% of audience would know who is married to who. Women are not objects or tools Sunrise. Kagome is the main character of Inuyasha even if his name is on title. She is the reason why got to meet these characters. Sunrise has done female characters dirty many times like making Ayame obessed with Kouga when she could have been a neat character but what they did to Rin takes the cake. Rin is introduced as “The girl who adores Sesshomaru” but apparently now that girl is the mother of his children. Shame on you Sunrise!! We only saw Rin ever as a child even when series ended aging her up to become Sesshomaru’s wife without knowing how she is as a grown person is not a good example for your younger female audience to view. This could have been avoided.

Even though I’m a minor who only been in this fandom for half a year I gather a lot of knowledge of how far this fandom goes. It was definitely most popular around early 2000’s and many say it was their first anime with their first anime crush being Sesshomaru. Inuyasha was an anime I did not look content for till later after finishing season 2. When I discovered Sessrin I was real confused and thought to myself it was just a small part of the fandom but I could have been more wrong. Many accounts I followed that involved Inuyasha shipped Sessrin. Even after finishing many Inuyasha episodes I was very confused on why this was a thing and how could have it gotten so big. I thought something magical would have happened like Rin turning out to be someone much older but that never happened. I was wrong. This ship is just pedophila and nothing else. And I’m sure if Sesshomaru wasn’t “attractive” Sessrin wouldn’t be big. Going back to people crushing on Sesshomaru when they were younger I’m sure the reason Sessrin is not more discussed about for how toxic it is online is because besides people being scared,people like to insert themselves as Rin but this has to stop. Adults should not pair a child and grown up together even if the child is now grown. Especially grown ups with kids. This is not good example to set for your kids. I’ve seen many minors being harassed online for disliking Sessrin by adults. Which is super immature and should be in trouble for. Netruals must know that is not a ship war because there have been people who have gotten horrible hate and were told very graphic things by Sessrin shippers. ( By the way I’m sorry to anyone who has been hurt online even Sessrin shippers. I do not support Sessrin but no one should be told awful things. ) Many Inuyasha fans which dislike Sessrin have left Twitter and Tumblr because of how much hate they have gotten. This is not okay. People should be able to voice their opinion on something without being told to commit s*icide or hoping they get r*ped.

And your point? This sequel is being written in the 21th century. We could write it however we please not everything has to be “accurate” and also this state is just supporting the idea of children being wed with a grown up was okay before because the age of consent was different. Ugh..but this claim is just another excuse. Please stop using it. Many things in the past were allowed which wouldn’t be allowed today. So no this is not a valid reason to ship Rin with Sesshomaru.

Sunrise should not be off the hook for using child Rin clips for the opening as the daughters are shown. It was a wrong decision to make them seem like “moments” since now many actual pedophiles will support this pair as well. Even before this continuing was announced Sessrin was a big thing and “adult Rin” was not. Sunrise should not be supporting Sessrin at all. Nor anyone in the Inuyasha crew. They have many young fans watching and supporting this anime and they are being influenced and will grow up to think grooming is okay when it’s not. Again in 2021 this can not be allowed and it shouldn’t have ever. This sequel was not necessary. The anime ended fine.

If Rin is the mom I will no longer support Hanyo No Yashahime. I’m sorry but I will sadly have to drop it. There are a lot of reasons why Sessrin should not be a thing and Sunrise should know many themselves,because they have joined along these character’s journeys and seen through scripts who they are. And what Sessrin is pedophila and grooming that happened to get a lot of support which is why it is hard to find more people within online media discuss it. I sure do hope it does because I am tired of seeing only few doing it. We need more awareness of how problematic grooming pairs are in anime media. No more portraying children to grow up as romance interests for people they were raised by. Let’s keep Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship wholesome. There is no need for them to get together. At the end of the day Rin owns Sesshomaru nothing and he knows that. Let’s start viewing them from a different point of view. Let’s see more fanart of them acting like father and daughter. Hi there, I have a question. I really need some advice right now cause I'm pretty much on the verge of saying, 'fuck it' and giving up on writing / creativity in general. How do I continue creating content when me and my one friend seem to only enjoy it. Also, in the creative community I'm in, there are these things we make to promote our blogs and the whole point of them is that once you make them you're kinda suppose to expect people to reblog them, but no one reblogs mine and I feel bad.

I'm so glad you asked this question because it's a really good one!

1. Creative communities can be SUPER cliquey.

Definitely NOT knocking creative communities here! Sometimes, they can be really great for motivation and inspiration! But there are other times where they can (and they do) choose favorites. ESPECIALLY on tumblr. And 90% of the time, it probably doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the writing. It has to do with networking, personality, productivity, among many other things.

Here's a case in point: I am a published writer. I have 5 or so short stories in a variety of anthologies alongside stories written by: Seanan McGuire, R.S. Belcher, and Faith Hunter.

If my writing can hold up alongside authors like this, I must have some level of capability, right???

But when I dabble in fanfiction occasionally, you would be surprised how painfully little interaction I get on my stories. I see plenty of other writers get traction on THEIR stories in the same fandom with the same pairing, and - I hate to say it - those stories are often not edited at all and riddled with errors.

But maybe they publish more often.

Maybe they have more friends they chat with who are willing to promote their work.

Maybe they write more sexy stuff that people are willing to read, regardless of the writing quality.

My point is: outside of fanfiction, I feel strong in my writing abilities. But when I'm writing for fandom, I start to question whether I'm *actually* a decent writer or if I'm really just a sham.

Online communities are only one facet of the audience you can present your writing to. And if your current creative community isn't supporting you, keep looking to find one that does. Try other communities, other platforms, other writing events for promos. There are SO MANY ways to get your writing out there these days! Keep testing things out! :)

2. In the end, who are you writing for?

There's plenty of writing advice that insists you write for a niche audience.

There's plenty of writing advice that also points out how important it is to to be heard by an audience (which is true!)

But in the end, if you had no audience at all, if you were in the middle of a desert wasteland at the end of the world and you were the last person on the planet...would you still write? Would you still tell stories?

That sounds somewhat simplistic (and majorly overexaggerated...I mean, end of the world? really?? :P ) but you might benefit from taking some time to get away from the social aspect of writing communities for a while. It's really easy to get trapped in "keeping up" with your community, writing more to "be seen", etc.

But would you still write FOR YOU?

I wrestled with this issue myself a few years ago when fanfiction really took my knees out from under me and leveled my self-esteem as a writer.

But eventually, I always come back to the fact that I started writing because it helped me make sense of the world. I like telling stories. I feel comfortable and confident when I communicate through writing.

I've battled with social anxiety most of my life which has led to speech problems (stuttering, going mute) so speaking can be riddled with even more anxiety.

But when I write??? I feel calm. I feel capable.

I write because that's where I feel my strongest.

I run into problems when I weigh my writing against other people's responses to it and I put my writing's worth on their responses.

And let me tell you: that is a REALLY bad habit. Practice looking at your writing objectively and recognizing the worth of it WITHOUT other people's opinions.

Maybe take a break from your creative community. Don't share anything for a while. Write something for yourself and don't let them see it.

Then after a little time has passed, maybe explore some other communities and see if they're more willing to signal boost your writing :)

3. Success is objective. And strange.

Some of the best known authors in the world were rejected MANY times before they received acclaim for their writing.

Other authors hit the bestseller's list and then wrote a book that went bust because it just wasn't well-received by people for whatever reason.

That's the catch-22 about writing: there is no success formula. You can study best-selling books for a lifetime and STILL not find the answer to WHY they're all successful. One might be written incredibly well while another can be extremely choppy and flat.

You have no way to tell if people will like your writing or not.

The point is that hinging the worth of your writing on literally ANYTHING else except you will leave you frustrated and starving ENDLESSLY.

So tell the story you want to. Tell the story that you're proud of. Enjoy the process. :)

Phew, finally finished re-finalizing my finalized GX stuff so far!

Over the last few weeks well I guess months--initially while I waited for some potential editing help for 65, then [once I canned the last fix I’d planned; sorry to those I may have slightly annoyed with my casual reblogs about it] just to get it all done while in Rome before double-releasing 65 and 66--I’ve been giving my scripts one final look-through to fix any consistency or formatting issues with my newer stuff (things like my starting to use “Fusion Undone” as De-Fusion’s translated name before accidentally going back to “Fusion Cancel” or turning “Miss Asuka” back to “Asuka-san” since I’d meant to use that whenever “Asuka-sama” was used, or the way I’d italicize contractions or capitalize things), and also to sort of go and do things I should’ve done initially (like translating Daitokuji’s nyas into meows, the logic being that it’s what we’d hear in English anyway; hopefully this is one that goes over well?). Basically just to cross them off my list so I don’t go back to them at all. The plan is also to work on new finalized MKV softsubs that I’ll release on NAC for those who’d like ‘em, since Zeratul (who’d provided them before) hasn’t in a long while, and once I do them for 1-66, they’ll be a thing going forward.

While I was at it, I applied some other animation/footage fixes to things I hadn’t picked up on in my initial finalizing run-through as I started doing them, or polished a couple that I did. Some might wonder “why put in the effort for quick shots or at all no one cares,” but as I’ve mentioned before, as someone who loves GX with some [I think good?] skills using Photoshop/video editing and an eye for detail, I figured if I have time to improve it for people (especially those who might notice the same errors I did) where the staff didn’t take the chance to do so on the DVDs (where they usually would), then why not? (I was actually inspired to do it by KaiserNeko doing the same for DBZ during DBZ Abridged.) The fixes I work on are done for both my hardsubs and the DVDRips I release with the scripts over on NAC, and there’s a thread there with the original DVDRips I work off of as well, in case anyone doesn’t like them (most/all of my finalized Season 1 scripts were re-timed for them by someone there, but I’ll take some time out to do it myself too now that I’ve re-finalized them), along with the CR subs which I’ve said should be shown love too. I’ll list these new fixes out below by each episode, for anyone super curious about the details; some are kind of interesting, lol. (Did my best to format it so it’s readable, too, lol.)

So, yeah--keep an eye out for the links to actually-final 1-64 on my stream masterpost to be updated along with 65 and 66 once I post them (probably tomorrow), I’ll be updating the links in my NAC thread to the hardsubs and scripts I’ve re-finalized along with any DVDRips updated with the fixes below, and as I get work going on 67+ (which I’ve started a bit of) I’ll work on batches of the softsub MKVs for folks. For people looking forward to my 65 and 66, really appreciate the patience the past couple of months; hoping to work on some double-releases to make up some time.

Extra-Final Fixes!

Episode 4 (Since I didn’t include a list of the previous fixes I’d worked on in the original release post, I’ll include those here in italics; the new ones here were mainly noticed as I worked on 66 given the flashback to Judai and Manjoume’s duel here--the edits were applied there first, then I went back and applied them here. The fixes I’d already done were applied to the flashback in 66 as needed.)

As Judai takes damage from Clayman’s destruction by VW-Tiger Catapult, Judai’s LP start counting down from 3808 and not 4000; I fixed it in Sony Vegas by masking in a LP counter starting from 4000 for a few frames.

As Judai prods Manjoume into choosing a card from his hand for A Hero Appears’s effect, Manjoume’s part of a split-screen has part of his blazer semi-faded for a frame; I corrected it by just duplicating a later frame.

As Judai’s LP take a hit from V-to-Z destroying Burstlady, there are four frames where the upper part of his Disk is missing the bottom part that extends out--but it shows up in the next frame, which also causes Judai’s Disk wrist grip to vanish for the rest of the shot before Shou’s split-screen comes on, as the parts of his arm for it are colored like his jacket sleeve. To fix the first issue, I used Photoshop to draw on that bottom part in that first frame, then masked it into the shot in Sony Vegas for the other three frames. The second issue I fixed by recoloring his sleeve to account for the wrist grip, then masking the edit into the shot while masking the little destroyed Solid Vision bits above the edit.

Had a few things going on here. First, after Manjoume mocks Judai being wide open just after the above, we have one of many recycled shots through the episode where Judai insists that he’s still got fight in him--the initial frame has Judai in the same position as edit #3 ends with his wrist grip missing, but it reappears as he moves to stand firm while the shading on the lefthand side of his Disk’s Cemetery slot is wonky for a couple of frames. Second, as Judai moves back into his initial position, that shading is normal but the wrist grip again disappears into his sleeve, and this time that bottom bit of his Disk’s upper part is colored as part of Judai’s sleeve, making his arm shorter. Third, as Judai moves to draw, the wrist grip reappears and that bottom part is now colored properly, but Judai’s arm isn’t extended like it was at the start of the shot. Finally, as Judai draws, the wrist grip is there but that whole part of his wrist is colored like it (no red noting the end of his jacket sleeve). I fixed the first issue by copying the wrist grip edit from #3 and copying the moving Cemetery slot shading from the second part here. The second issue was fixed once I again copied the wrist grip edit from #3, along with using the initial frame to mask in the correct Disk/forearm coloring. Then, I fixed the third issue by copying the rest of the area below the Disk’s bottom bit from the later shot in edit #7 below where it was colored correctly. I fixed the last issue by recoloring the first wrist grip curve into red for the end of Judai’s jacket sleeve for five frames.

As Manjoume’s V-to-Z aims directly at Judai, as he discards two to activate Evolutionary/Transcendant Wings, the Winged Kuriboh on his Disk is in Attack Mode when it’s in Defense on the field; I blanked its Monster Zone in Photoshop and then added a Winged Kuriboh proxy in AfterEffects correctly in Defense Mode.

As Judai swings his arm around telling Winged Kuriboh LV10 to “send all that energy right back” at Manjoume, the spot on his Disk where Winged Kuriboh LV10 appears for a few frames is colored like the Monster Zone it’s on; I just applied a Winged Kuriboh LV10 proxy above it for those frames.

Again, a few things here as we recycle the Judai shot in edit #4 (but he’s smiling so it’s different~). First, after Manjoume mocks Judai’s idea of him drawing a 1000-ATK-or-higher Monster to finish him, the initial frame of this shot is pulled from just before Judai moves to draw in edit #4 because the wrist grip is missing along with the bottom bit of his Disk being colored like his jacket. Then, as Judai moves to draw and grabs a card from his deck, as his Disk arm swings upward for a few frames, the wrist grip area is first 90% colored like his sleeve, with half of the first curve of it on his sleeve colored like the grip, before it’s fully colored like his sleeve for the other frames. Finally, as Judai fully draws and his Disk swings back to the bottom of the shot (recycling Judai’s position post-draw in edit #4), the wrist grip is gone, but also Judai’s undershirt is miscolored, part of the folds on Judai’s jacket sleeve near his elbow are colored like his Disk, and his Disk is miscolored or missing a few details compared to the earlier shot (like the bottom side of the blue LP orb being colored blue as well and not the Disk’s gray as before). I fixed the first issue by copying the fixed initial frame from edit #4, masking it in Vegas to just use the Disk/wrist grip area. The second issue was fixed as I recolored the wrist grip area such that the first curve was fully red and the rest was wrist-grip-colored for the three frames of Judai’s Disk arm going upward. I fixed the third issue by just masking in Judai’s Disk and arm (up to the edge of his wrist) from the earlier correctly-colored shot, while also masking in his correctly-colored undershirt.

As Judai summons Featherman--to Shou and Chronos’s surprise--and has him lunge at Manjoume for the finisher, the black faraway box that is Featherman on his Disk disappears as Shou and Chronos slide in on a split-screen, and it’s still gone as they slide back out. I fixed this in Vegas by just masking that black box on to stay longer, masking in Shou’s split-screen over it before and after it slides in.

Episode 8 (Original release post; as with episode 4′s, these new errors were mainly noticed as I worked on 66 given the flashback to Judai and Ryou’s duel here--the edits were applied there first, then I went back and applied them here. The fixes I made before were applied to the flashback in 66, as well.)

After Judai thinks about how well Ryou played his first move, he draws Fusion for his turn, but as he draws it, it’s a dark-orange rectangle in his hand; I added a Fusion proxy over it in AfterEffects for the quick 2-3 frames it’s in.

After Judai’s first hit on him, Ryou draws and Special-Summons another Cyber Dragon, but visually he’s playing a Monster in face-down Defense Mode on his second Monster Zone--we see this Cyber Dragon in Zone 3 a few shots later as he uses Revival of the Dead to bring back his first Cyber Dragon. The dub fixed this by making his Disk arm move such that Ryou’s hand lands on Zone 3, with the card in his hand a dubified Cyber Dragon, and I opted to work that into the footage here by masking their moving Disk over the original shot in Vegas, redoing the sky background behind it and masking in parts of Ryou and his hand to make it blend well while also adding some detail to the Disk in Photoshop to compensate for the slightly lower quality. Then, I replaced the dubified card with a Japanese Cyber Dragon proxy in AE. I worked on this in 66 first (as highlighted here), but I unfortunately couldn’t just copy that edit completely here, since the footage in 66 has a bit more brightness/contrast to it that I couldn’t dial down accurately to make it blend in to the darker footage here; this is definitely the kind of error that would normally be fixed on the Japanese DVDs, so why it wasn’t is a mystery.

As the screen zooms in on Judai after Ryou declares Cyber Twin’s attack, he’s missing Thunder Giant on his Disk’s third Monster Zone; I added a proxy onto it in AE and masked the red bulb on his Disk over it in Vegas. It’s tiny and a quick shot, but for consistency’s sake and all. (I’d previously only added that missing Thunder Giant as it zooms out while he activates A Hero Appears).

As Judai thinks about how Evolutionary Wings would evolve his Winged Kuriboh and the screen fades and zooms out to Bubbleman on his field, he’s missing Bubbleman on his Disk in his third Monster Zone. I added it in AE, then keyframed this zoom-out for it accordingly in Vegas.

Right after #4 above, as Judai notes that he can’t Normal-Summon again this turn, we see Mudballman--which he hasn’t summoned yet--in Defense Mode on his Disk. When I first fixed this, I put Bubbleman in its place, but accidentally in Defense Mode (given that he’s in Attack Mode right now), so I fixed my own correction by blanking the third Monster Zone Mudballman was on and slapping Bubbleman on in Attack Mode in AE, moving it along with Judai’s Disk. (Still not sure why the dub decided Mudballman = VW Catapult or something apparently lol)

Episode 10 (Original release post listing the original two fixes that were done)

After Mei draws out his Sanga thanks to Kyuu’s Dark Designator card, during the panning shot as Mei adds it to his hand (before they tell Judai and Shou they’ll enlighten them about Tag Dueling), the Defense-Mode Burstlady on Judai’s Disk is shown reversed; I just applied a proxy in AfterEffects on top of it so it was correctly shown with the name box facing left.

After summoning Steam Gyroid, as Shou notes that summoning Hyuga left Kyuu without a defending Monster, the above shot is recycled--this time, reversed so it pans from Shou to Judai, but also has Judai react to what Shou’s saying--and so is the error with Burstlady on his Disk. Again, just applied a proxy in AE to fix it, moving it as Judai moves his Disk.

As Shou looks down in disappointment after his Steam Gyroid’s attack ran into Hyuga’s effect, Judai turns to give him some words of encouragement, but as his Disk moves with him, we see the Defense-Mode Burstlady on his Disk again facing the wrong way. Just slapped a proxy on in AE and moved it as Burstlady’s Zone came into view.

After Gate Guardian destroys Shou’s Steam Gyroid, as Chronos watches on and notes Shou’s timidity vs Judai’s stubbornness while the two look on at the Meikyuu Brothers, we see the Defense-Mode Burstlady on Judai’s Disk facing the wrong way again. Fixed it by placing the proxy again in AE, then zooming it out accordingly as the shot zooms out.

After Mei sets a card and Judai prepares to draw for his turn, there’s a yellow rectangle where his Defense-Mode Burstlady should be. Applied a proxy in AE over it to fix the issue.

Episode 11 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

As Kyuu draws once Judai sets a card to end his turn using Spark Gun on Gate Guardian, the spot on his Disk where Defense Wall in Defense Mode would be has an Attack-Mode-shaped hole where you can see the blue of the stands behind him! I fixed it by making a Defense Wall proxy that I slapped on in Defense Mode in AfterEffects, moving it with his Disk. For the tail end of the shot where the Zone is fully visible, I also filled in the hole with the Zone color in Photoshop and then applied the proxy.

As Shou declares Gate Guardian the target of his Shield Crush, the card back for the one card in his hand is miscolored. I fixed it by redrawing the usual card back in Photoshop for the frames it’s in, Gaussian Blurring it so it blends in, before he turns and they’re out of the shot.

After Mei ends his turn having attacked Drillroid with Dark Guardian amused at Shou’s standing back up thanks to Judai, as Judai draws for his turn, his face-down card is miscolored. I recolored it in Photoshop for the few frames it’s in, working it into the footage in Vegas.

After Judai draws from Pot of Greed after the above, he goes on to activate Fusion Gate, but Sparkman on his Disk is reversed; I applied a proxy in AE facing upright, then keyframed it to the zoom-out here in Vegas.

As Judai realizes he’ll need to give up Skyscraper so Tempester can survive Dark Guardian’s attack, the Tempester card on his Disk is reversed; I applied a proxy in AE facing upright, then keyframed it to the zoom-out here in Vegas.

As Judai and Shou reel from the above attack once Kyuu ends his turn, Shou has a Normal Monster card where Drillroid would be on his Disk. I fixed it by slapping on a proxy in AE for the couple of frames it’s visible in before Shou moves his Disk so it’s not onscreen.

I polished my edit to Misawa to keep his sideburns still in episode 12 and added it to the equivalent shot in the preview here.

Episode 12 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

As noted in 11′s #7, I polished my original fix to Misawa’s moving sideburns as a buffed-up Hell Soldier took out his Hydroggedon so it blended in more with the smoke and everything going on in the shot; looks better now.

As Manjoume declares Hell Burner’s attack on Misawa, there are two quick frames where it’s a yellow rectangle on his Disk; I applied a Hell Burner proxy in AE accordingly.

Episode 18 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

After Kagurazaka brings back Berfomet to take the hit from Thunder Giant and he starts his turn, as he activates Reincarnation of the Dead, there’s a quick frame where it shrinks in his hand as the shot zooms out--I fixed this by just duplicating the frame just before where it’s normal.

After Kagurazaka summons the Gazelle he added to his hand above, he then activates Swords of Sealing Light, but there’s a quick frame where it’s just a yellow shape in his hand. Easy fix by slapping a proxy in AE.

Episode 30 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

As Shou and Hayato realize they’re no longer being boiled alive, Hayato audibly asks, “Huh? Where are we?”, but his lips only move for the “Huh?” part of that as he lifts his head. To fix this, I used the couple of flaps as he lifts his head and tweaked/resized them so they would work after his head’s lifted, adjusted to fit his line.

Episode 31 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

As Chronos sets a card down after Camula brings out another Immortal Werewolf, Antique Gear Soldier on his Disk is shown as a Normal Monster Card; I originally fixed this by slapping on a proxy in AfterEffects while the shot was still, then keyframe-zooming it out in Vegas, but at the time, I didn’t account for Chronos’s swinging arm, so the card was superimposed over his hand for a frame or two as it swung over that Zone. I’ve masked his hand over my edit now, so that’s fixed.

Episode 38 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

After Judai summons Wildman in Defense Mode to start the duel and the lights suddenly go out (prompting the “duel of darkness/duel in the seas” mixup...), we see Wildman’s in Attack Mode on the field despite its Defense posture. I fixed it by applying a proxy there, then masking Wildman’s lower body and the shadow coming from his sheathed sword on top of it.

Episode 46 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

As Judai reminisces about the past year, he flashes back to his duel with Ryou in episode 8 and his Featherman being vaporized by Cyber Dragon; I added back the fix I did to Judai’s Disk in removing his destroyed Featherman for the few frames it’s onscreen. Because the flashback fades to white right then too, I also added a quick mostly-transparent layer of white over the blanked zone to replicate the start of the fade to white so it blended in.

As Judai then looks over at Shou and Hayato and he remembers his first encounters with them (a bit reanimated, too), there’s a quick frame where Hayato’s gritted-teeth mouth disappears before it closes into a line for his mouth. Fixed by just reusing a frame of his mouth in the same position and moved it into place in the panning shot.

Episode 51 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

As Ryou notes that Judai’s studied up on him by choosing to go second, Judai slides in on a split-screen, but the top of his hair’s miscolored. Fixed by recoloring it in Photoshop, then working it into the footage in Vegas by moving it into place as he slides in.

As Ryou uses Time Capsule to hide away his Fusion Undone/De-Fusion for later and Judai thinks back to his move in episode 8 leading to his activating Power Bond, I added back my fix to Ryou’s Disk to add on his missing two Cyber Dragons and the one Cyber Dragon in his hand, grayscaling it and adding visual noise to it to blend with the flashback.

Episode 54 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

After Chronos pins his hopes on Manjoume, as Gokaido draws for his turn, we see an error where his Disk apparently partially vanishes for two movement frames--it seems the animation staff forgot to put the background layer behind his Disk there or something, lol. I fixed this by actually filling in the rest of his Disk in Photoshop for those two frames, first by filling in the Disk itself and then painting on the rest of the Monster Zone at the edge of the frame, and then just added them to the video in Vegas.

Episode 59 (Original release post listing the original fixes that were done)

After Shining Flare Wingman returns while Ed explains Misfortune’s effect, of the D-Heroes on his Duel Disk, we see Diamondguy and Diehardguy reversed. I originally slapped on proxies for them positioned correctly in AfterEffects on the frame after the slow zoom-out stops, then in Vegas I used that frame to re-do the initial zoom-out, but while I usually add a slight blur to the proxies, I noticed that they were a bit too blurry as the zoom-out started. So I redid it and lightened the blur, while also touching up the bit as Misfortune’s light envelops Ed and his Disk so the light over them blends in more.

Episode 62 (Original release post, though I didn’t do any fixes before)

As Judai uses Dandylion’s effect to summon his two Fluff Tokens, Cocoon Dolphina--visually in Defense Mode on the field--is in Attack Mode on Judai’s Disk in the panning shot to them. I fixed it by first blanking the Zone in Photoshop, then placing a proxy in the Zone for one frame in AfterEffects before I re-panned that frame for the shot.

Hi! i just got a tumblr account very recently (but i’ve been reading stuff in the vikings fandom basically since the beginning of covid lockdown last year when i started the show, but anyways lol). i really love your writing and i was wondering if you had any tips about starting up a page or anything? i love writing but i’m much more used to the wattpad layout, and i also love editing photos/videos but i’ve always been on insta for that. on both of thsoe platforms there isnt really much of a fandom for vikings though, which is the main reason i joined/got into tumblr. i’ve never worked on here before so i just wanted to ask if you have any advice for me. thanks so much for your time! sorry this is so long!

Tips for Tumblr? Let me see...

Well, first of all always save your drafts away from Tumblr. You can have them saved on Word or use Google Drive for saving your documents, but do not trust Tumblr drafts to keep your work and do not write directly on Tumblr post editor to avoid losing your time and effort if the site updates all of a sudden!

For editing and gifing, take note of the size limits for Tumblr images. Some images and gifs can be rejected if not inside these limits and the editor won’t always say what’s the real problem haha.

About mobile and web apps, take note that their codification is different which means, posts edited in Mobile sometimes won’t be possibly editable on the web and vice versa. So, choose your favorite version and stick to it (I love the web, more features available, fewer errors...)

Over anything, ignore the haters. They’re not numerous in our fandom and the few who exist are nothing but attention whores: ignore them, they’ll search for attention somewhere else XD

If you already have a Wattpad profile active, feel free to link it for us! Shout your work out, love! There are lots of Wattpad readers around that will love to know you’re here too!

Tag your work and respect warnings, This one is always good to remember cause tagging your work will help it to spread around (the first 5 hashtags you put on every work will settle it on the searches for those tags helping you to appear around) and the warnings are super important to avoid people from being surprised by triggering content in our fictions. Since we don’t have a block exclusively for warnings - like Wattpad offers - it’s always good to remember to place these warnings before your work starts. :)

If you chose the web version of the platform, remember to use the “keep reading” bar whenever is possible! The web posts can be very long and believe me, in the mobile version, the longer posts become a real nightmare for the users who’ll have to scroll down a lot of touches before reaching the end of our posts. This is a recap that I did for the lovely @i-grace20-love. She asked me for a recent news recap but I thought why not sum up the whole thing? [January 7th-January 21st] This will be updated until a clear agreement has been reached and released.

• So this all started on Tuesday 07/01 when Meghan and Harry came back from their 6-weeks break in Canada and made had a couple of engagements at the Hubb Community Kitchen (‘secret’ pictures released on SussexRoyal on 10/01) and Canada House in London. By the way, it one of the most absurd engagements I ever had to witness; the couple had nothing to say, the usual rent-a-crowd was made up of staff because the visit had been scheduled so last minute, and vapid conversation: ‘Thank you so much for having us - not that any of you had anything much to do with it,' he said to laughter. Just who the fuck says that?

•Harry looked to be in a weird mood but Meg, ever the actress and sweaty armpits be damned, looked ecstatic; et pour cause! Shortly after their outing, they released via Instagram their wish to step back senior royals.

• Soon after a website was made public and it is where they further explained their decision and listed their demands offered more explanation on how this shift would be financed and how it would work. https://sussexroyal.com This annoucement caused such a shock that a high number of people tried to reach tehri website but were greeted with error message “502 Bad Gateway”. Harry and Meghan had finally broken the internet.

•This sudden announcement, now believed to have been prompted by the couple’s realisation of their own « constitutional irrelevance » (Chuck wants to slim down the monarchy), a fit about the recent pictures of the Queen and her 3 heirs and The Sun perspicacity on the Harkles moves, appeared to have been announced under the table; meaning The Queen, BP, Clarence House and Kensington Palace has not been consulted on the matter (that’s crazy!)

It is of capital importance to mention that Dan ‘the man’ Wootton was onto their asses and shady deals and published an article on the 7th (this article is also believed to have prompted the Harkles to speed up their plans) https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10693487/prince-harry-meghan-move-to-canada/ But this was somehow denied by the palace (how bloody blind were they honestly?): Palace told MailOnline that the move to Canada was nothing but 'speculation' and they would not comment

• Shit immidiately hit the fan and the Palace took TWO FUCKING HOURS TO RESPOND and issued a wet, confused statement. Both statements caused people to question how were the Sussex supposed “fully support HTMQ” and “honour our duty to the Queen” when they didn’t even bother to tell her they were doing this? Many royal reporters (no, that doesn’t include Scobie) were perplexed or downright offended by the way this annoucement came to be public. https://mobile.twitter.com/byEmilyAndrews/status/1215054128780627969 The Royal fandom, ever so funny even in troubled times, graced us with some good jokes. Even The Times found this ridiculous. My fav reaction was defintely Andy Cohen’s who invited them to join the HouseWives cast, LMAO. #RHOBH

* Among the most interesting reactions were that of Thomas Markle Sr who said to be ‘disappointed’ and that of SaMental Markle, who regards the situation as a ‘slap in the face”. In an interview for Inside Edition, she adds, 'That's ridiculous, they stepped into the spotlight knowing what the duties were, knowing what the media would be like for them [...] Clearly, she knows she's engaging in attention-getting behaviors.' Onto the most interesting articles now: Piers Morgan and Dan Wootton provided some good reads and so did Camilla Tominey in a Telegraph column that retraces everything that the RF has done to welcome Harry and Meghan. Richard Kay and Geoffrey Levy published a joint article in the Daily Mail explaining how Wills and Harry’s relationship soured over Meghan. This goes hand-in-hand with Lydia Hawken’s article for the Sun where Meghan’s shut down mechanism is explained.

Tom McTague for The Atlantic also published an interesting article; I leave you with my favourite part “You say you’re woke, but the companies you work for [in China are] unbelievable,” said Gervais on Sunday night, tearing into the cream of Hollywood. He was right to say Hollywood is pro–having cake and pro–eating it. But so too, it seems, are Harry and Meghan. Zing!

The Economist also has an interesting take about the brand Sussex and how it could hurt the monarchy; this is perfectly summed up by this brilliant line from the DM “no one wants to see the Sussex name on a tub of margarine” MDRRR

*In adition to their first statement, the Palace added that they were working to find a solution ‘within days, not weeks” and it was understood that major negociations were already starting on the 9th as HMTQ, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry had an all-day conference call to avoid an all-out war after the Sussexes quit.

*Unfortunately, the dam was already open and reactions and information started pouring from everywhere: Madame Tussaud’s wax museum was like “lol y’all can retire from this exhibit too” and moved the statues of H&M to another location, it was made public that the deserting couple was being adviced by Oprah who then DENIED the rumour, the Sun revealed Catherine and Meghan had not spoken in months, the DM published a scathing article showing how the couple had been plotting to quit for months, Royal aides questioned the numbers posted on the Sussex Royal website (full version of the article avail on Plants blog), anti-monarchy sentiment rose in Australia and Labour MP Clive Lewis called for a referendum on the RF, a Netflix deal and a Sussex interview were thought to be in the works but then the interview rumour was proved false, a friend of Cressida’s said THIS!!!. To know most of what that went down on the first two days, just visit Plant’s blog where she tried to break it down for us.

This mess kind of eclipsed Catherine’s birthday which the Sussexes had no trouble using to stay longer in the news (once you got it you can’t let go of it, right?). The birthday picture released by KP and taken by Matt Porteous gave away a great sense of peace and harmony (in absolute contrast of what’s going on atm in the family) and served, at least for me, of a reminer of Catherine’s gentleness and her dedication to her family. Somehow, it made me think that things would be fine! Here’s @loveliestoftheroyals edit of the original picture (go give her a reblog, the light in this is gorgeous!)

*Two massive info came after that: 1) the Sussexes had left Archie in Canada thus illustrating they only came back to the UK to cause trouble (People reports the kid is with Jessica Mulroney who is also capitalizing buckets on this mess), and 2) Meg decided to leave Harry’s ass in the UK and retreat to Canada. Although the first one was justifiable (not wanting to put Archie through the mess and saving him from a plane trip), the second left lots of people perplexed: it is understood that Meghan had left with A LOT of luggage which looked VERY suspicious so soon after she appeared without her wedding ring, it is even rumoured that she had given an ultimatum as he revealed that he didn’t think his marriage could keep on if they didn’t step back. The remaining 1/2 of the Hollywood Sussex, left alone to face the Queen’s wrath, was supposed to join his wife in Canada but it is still unclear when he will leave.

* Dan ‘the Man’ Wootton came back and spilled some pipping hot new tea: he unveiled the Sussexes merching plans, revealing that Meghan had already started discussing merch deals with top fashion brands and, in regards to the freshly unveiled plans of Disney to hire Meghan for voice-acting, reminded us of that cringy moment at the Disney premiere when Harry appeared to lay the groundwork for his wife’s voice-over deal to Bob Iger. Yeah you remember, that was when they snubbed an army event to go rub shoulders with Beyoncé : Piers has an article about it: 'And on that very day that Harry was hustling on her behalf the Royal Marines - of which he is their Captain General - held a ceremony about the anniversary of the death of 11 personnel.'Harry didn't go to that memorial which was very moving because he had to go and hustle his wife some voice over action from the boss of Disney.’ YIKES!!! No wonder why Harry’s army pals are now keen to clash him over his decision to step back and his disrespect towards the Queen. No wonder the poles aren’t in their favour, and two-thirds of the country say they were wrong to snub the Queen.

And no wonder why the courtiers are infuriated with the couple: But the new has infuriated royal courtiers — who are shocked by her underhand efforts to rake in a fortune before the couple had even discussed their plans with the Queen, Prince Charles or other senior figures. Pretty much everyone is mad at them like Royal Chef Daren McGrady, or taking their distance from them like the Obamas, or makes fun of them, like Gary Janetti. Talking about people who have denied their involvement in the Sussex drama, KUWTBD compiled a list of “those who have jumped the ship” which has also been illustrated by @princeharryandme in an hilarious way.

* We were then advised by Phil Dampier to stand close by for breaking news and I was not disappointed in the least. It was announced that an epic, unprecedented summit would be held in Sandringham on Monday and that Meghan would ‘dial in’. The Mail contiued to push hot stories, and the one written by Rich Eden had me shook; he revealed how Harry and Meghan had quietly set up a company (MWX Trading Ltd) last August before stepping back from their duties and planned to make a fortune off it thanks to their trademarks. However, shortly after reading this, I came across many articles discussing how the couple would now be taxed; according to Cole and Mansey for the DM : Harry will be told that he would face a potential ‘double tax’ on any commercial income and a large bill for Frogmore Cottage, his home in Windsor, if he and Meghan decide to ditch their royal duties and relocate abroad. Wooding for the Sun added that they could also have to foot the bill for their security despite what the couple had originally written on their website and that has now been removed. Talks about money remain at the center of this mess since the Sussexes might have to change their commercial/merching ambitions because a property lawyer trademarked the SR brand in the States before they could do it. The question of who will pay fo their security and lavish lives in Canada is also on hold as the decision keeps on changing, and changing and changing again. One thing is certain it’s that people aren’t happy about it. Meg really has her assistants googling “woke but obscure charities in Vancouver” to find out where she’s gonna go next. Poor soul thinks she’s on tour...

Rich Palmer says: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer use their HRH titles. They plan to return the £2.4m of taxpayers’ money used in the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage. The couple will be known as Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex - collectively as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still. They still have their HRH titles but won’t use them from spring 2020. Harry and Meghan will live mostly in North America but retain Frogmore Cottage, paying commercial rent. They will no longer undertake official royal duties, will be free to earn a living, but have agreed to uphold the values of the Queen. It’s not clear if the Sussexes will be able to continue to use the Sussex Royal name. That is still being worked out.

Emily Andrews adds: BP can’t say whether the Sussexes can still use their “SussexRoyal” brand. They are still members of the family, the Queen makes that v clear and pays warm praise to Meghan, but if they aren’t working royals then are they royal?? his new arrangement for the Sussexes will start in the spring when they launch their new foundation. Until then they WILL do more royal engagements and Meghan will return to the UK...BUT in a year’s time the whole thing will be reviewed by Queen, Charles and William. After being a bit mad at first because it gives the impression that the Harkles got everything they wanted, I understood that HMTQ, PC, PW and courtiers actually came up with a good deal: praising Meghan and showing support for what their family has gone through (aka nothing) ensures the post-divorce I was never supported narrative is out of the question, them paying back the cost of refurbishment of Frog Cott is humiliating, stripping Harry of his military titles is also great because it weakens his war hero PR, they won’t be working royals anymore so we won’t have to see their smug mugs (no more tours, no public funding for work, no official engagements, no tiaras, no nothing!!!!—and yet the public still get to complain about the cost of their security and the tabs to mock their merching and all). I had my reservations on them retaining the HRHs but choosing not to use them but this may be used as a precaution for Harry to go back into the family when Meg divorces his lame ass. Now I really want to know what the situation will be about the use of Royal since they are no longer real royals (Royals Only In Name, or RINOs lol) and what is made of the dukedom —we may have another announcement next week.

That’s hilarious! I’m happy that he’s now vilifying H&M like they used to do him but it’s sad that an old man has to revert to such means to get the attention of his daughter and to clear his name. I wish I could send him my support. Talking about smear campaigns, Meg has began her own against none other than HMTQ! *HARRY IS FINALLY LEAVING! MailOnline understands Harry has no more official engagements in his diary after today and is expected to fly to Vancouver imminently to be reunited with Archie and Meghan. It is not known when he will return but a Sussex source told MailOnline there is 'more to come' in Britain for the prince before the spring. I call a finally reunited photo of them + Archie (Meghan will pick him up at the airport like she did for Heather Dorak), then a papwalk of him and Doria which will be similar to those Meg used to do with her mum, and maybe a new picture of all of them on their IG to thank everyone for their support. *New day, new drama (actually same day) The Cambridges, the Wessexes and the Princess Anne had a successful, high-spirited engagement at BP to mark the UK-Africa investment summit so obviously over at the Harkles camp, they wondered what they could do to overshadow the fact that no one misses them (as my girl No Poker face Camilla had us believe)? And the answer, as I had predicted, took the form of victory papwalks: a grinning Harry was papped at the airport in Canada where he is set to reunite with his wife and ‘start their new lives away from the Firm’ (there’s also a video that shows him being picked up on the tarmac), and Meghan was papped walking her dogs and holding Archie.

Now let’s reflect on the absolute idiocy of these photos and how they demonstrate that Harry and Meghan are royal hypocrites (royal, see what I did here hahaha) : in the little period of time H&M have lived in the UK as a married couple, there was never ONE photo of Archie published off-engagement and the couple (as a unit or solo) has been photographed by paps so little times that you can count the number on your fingers. Now Meghan has been in Canada for what 2 weeks since they announced they would step back? But just count how many times she’s already arranged for paparazzi to photograph her!

This is particularly disgusting because it comes after months, years!!!, of the Harkles complaining about the press harassing them and about how they’re hounded by the press when the truth is they are calling the paps on themselves in order to stay relevant and to feed into these vile claims. Can you believe Harry actually stopped many times and posed to make sure the paps took his photo?

Legion-Media.ru even has backgrid photos taken inside the airplane which is just crazy!!! Can you believe that the kid was deliberately dangling on the side, not properly in the carrier and in a position that looks quite uncomfortable, so that Megs face was at the center of every sing photograph??? Like she put the child sideways because he was blocking her shot! MAJOR YIKES!

Here, Meghan reeks so much of smugness that all her shenanigans are obvious and transparent: Chris Ship calls her out on it , so does Australian correspondent Hugh Whitfeld and Pat Treble has her take on the situation too. Criticism of these photos also come from the fact that they were poorly staged: Homegirl looks like she’s struggling with holding the baby and the dogs and yet she throws manic smiles at the cameras (maybe she should ask the nanny how to use the baby carrier like Twitter is advising to?). An anon on @houseofbrat even questioned how come MM was able to find the camera and be grinning right into it when from the video we can clearly see that the paps are a good distance away! My fave comments are that of photographer Jesal Parshotam who says: Hey Meg. HMU if you are interested in doing some set ups. I’ll make sure they look candid. tied with that of journalist Christopher Wilson who answers to the question ‘Were the paps lucky or did she tell them where she was?’ that ‘her assistant with the Hotmail account tipped off the paps’ LMAO. Truth is, Parshotam is right.Meghan absolutely needs someone to make her pics look candid because lots of people are starting to see through her BS but it seems she’s too proud to do even that!

Now let’s take a look at the timing: the photos were released around the time of K&W engagement. This just shows to me that H&M can never fully leave the Firm because they will always want to overshadow and compete with the Cambridges; Harry will always want to be better than William and Meghan will always try to one-up Catherine and isn’t that sad? It is about time they realize that the Cambridges aren’t playing in the same league as them, they’re not even playing the same sport, actually they’re not in the same realm of existence as the Harkles. There’s a thing we say in France which is « les aigles ne volent pas avec les pigeons » (shoutout to Booba mdrrr) and which means « eagles do not fly with pigeons »; the Harkles should meditate on that and accept that they’re the pigeons in this scenario...

Their vicious need to be better than the Cambs, along with Harry’s ghastly address at the sentebale reception, lead me to believe that report on the brothers making peace is incorrect and rather lead me to believe this blind. This is something that I also find in Richard Kay’s article for the DM where he shows how ridiculous Harry’s behavior is and how he seems to thrive on destroying the unity the Royal Family is trying to build back: With the ink barely dry on the deal that allows him to escape the straitjacket of being a working royal, Harry's sudden decision to use a private event to pass a very public judgement on it was not just discourteous to the Royal Family, but also dramatically undermined the harmonious accord it had been presented as hours earlier. I also found this bit very interesting: There are other parallels with the Sussex crisis, too. Diana was constantly linked with commercial deals, from a fragrance named after her by a French perfume house to being the face of a high street fashion brand. They offered her mega-bucks but she turned them all down – just as she did Kevin Costner who wanted her to star with him in a remake of The Bodyguard. She could have made millions but didn't. The Dumbartons should take a few advice from her book and stop saying her name in vain and using her as a shield when ultimately, Diana was nothing like them.

If this is it indeed the case, we’ll probably get another ‘break-in’ 2016 style where the police won’t find any evidence again. They’re already playing the Diana card : Harry and Meghan's lawyers also highlighted serious safety concerns about how the paparazzi had been driving in Canada. Prince Harry's mum, Diana, died on 31 August 1997 after the car she was in crashed into a concrete pillar in a Paris tunnel, whilst trying to flee paparazzi photographers. Diamond Farming Guide

After several months of stam hoarding, I cannot recall which Nikki tuber(s) have suggested Debbie-format as the cornerstone of dia farming, but I can tell you that day 1 of skipping the Debbie-format suit in favor of the NPC’s sweet sweet diamonds yielded me about 550 diamonds--and I haven’t even cracked into my comp box stockpile yet. (This stuff is probably a fusion of wisdom from both Effie and Viv in the past year, but I follow at least four Nikkis on YT, and they all have great gameplay input and tons of experience.) I’m just so impressed with the efficiency of it, that I wanted to do a write-up for it!

Hoard stam and Competition vote boxes. (Optional, but also helpful for accumulating even more stam and dia: Lots of Corridor voting, too.) Anytime you participate in a Hell event that drops stam, keeping it for later is a great base for hoarding, ‘cause it typically works out to several hundred per suit.

Skip a Debbie-format suit that you’re not 100% in love with. Thus far, they always return for crafting/store. Instead of accumulating the currency to exchange for the suit, give it all to the NPC. (Optional: Hunt easter eggs. I don’t do it, so I don’t have a breakdown on how to. Many players swear by it, though, and there’s lots of tutorials out there.) If you don’t have things to farm crafting materials for--though I can’t imagine many are lacking for things to craft right now, ‘cause V2:Ch6 is so huge--Maiden V1:7-7 is ideal for decomp purposes, as it can drop a ♥♥♥ and a ♥♥♥♥, often both: and you’ll always need more Earrings & Necklaces.

(Alternately, of course, you can always finish a Debbie-format suit, then continue this farming guide as normal. Depending on your V-level and how much stam you tend to hoard, you’ll usually get at least a day and a half to two days of dia-farming on top of acquiring the suit, if you so desire.)

Use the extra gold from the NPC and stam usage to buy pull 100s in the Pavilion of Mystery. Now couldn’t be a better time to do all the extra pull 100s you can, because 95% of the crafting materials for Starsea can come from the Mystery House, and we’ll likely (hopefully?) be getting the Starsea recolor on LN server sometime this year? I usually keep around 500k-1mil on hand for crafting purposes and spend the rest.

Decomp everything extra. (If you were farming V1:7-7 that’s Lampwick Brown hair and Silent Rose coat.) Revel in dozens of decomp chests, which can yield Tarot pieces, dia, dyes, star coins, and gold--and doing so doubles as Reconstruction suit farming, so you’re likely to get massive progress on any you’re working on.

If you want to be extra thorough, you can weed out all the Mystery House recolors that you’ve already finished. The ones I find easiest at a glance are from Tower of Zen: the “lucky red” pieces and the gold ♥♥♥♥♥ pieces. (I compiled a full list below, for if you’re ever feeling like cleaning up your wardrobe dupes.)

There’s a hyper-intensive third degree of decomp where you assess whether you’ve crafted every single thing an item might be used for, then decomp them from that point on--but it takes hours upon hours of cross-referencing on Nikki’s Info, and I’ve never in the three years I’ve played completed a full inventory purge. It’s not necessary, but it’s a major extra push for decomp chests if you’re so inclined. (I once saw Viv decomp over a thousand items this way.)

If you’ve got a surplus of Mystery House currency, you can always spend it on pieces you can buy, then turn around and decomp those too. I see lots of people cash in their Cinderella Shoes for decomp material, for example, if there’s not any Lifetime suits they’re saving up for. I personally always aim to complete all Lifetime suits (and eventually, all their recolors... except Grice, that restored Yoke can stay in the bin RIP) so I keep my Cinderella Shoes, where I prefer to buy extras with my 150-dia pav currencies, if I’m doing this.

I’ve also seen people during pick-and-choose Debbie-format events spend any surplus currency last day on whatever item(s) they can afford, for extra decomps. Ideally, though, you’ll never have that much leftover on the last day, following this strategy.

Following this strategy during a Debbie-format event, you essentially get dia from your dailies, from voting in the Competition and Corridor, from the NPC, from decomp chests, and from completing suits. It all racks up very very fast!

A/N: This was a ride. I don’t end many fics this way but this one felt right. I think next time I write a Tonycentric fic I’ll make sure that Pepper isn’t in it in the way she was in this one. I’ll definitely need to do another Tony fic. This began as part of @moonbeambucky ‘s challenge. Again, I just pounded this thing out. Forgive any errors. I didn’t edit this AT ALL. “What happened to your arm?” Nat gasps, quickly moving forward to relieve you of the bulking suitcase you’re carrying and the one Tony’s sliding behind him.

“It’s my fault.” You tell her, cheeks burning as you remember your recklessness.

“Wait for my signal, Princess. I’ll go in from the left. You go in from the right. We take them out a section at a time and work our way into that final bunker. I’m sure the big cheese is in there. Waiting like a moldy lump of gorgonzola.” Tony whispers into your comm.

“Doesn’t that just mean it’s ripe?” You check but you become distracted as the head honcho himself. “Tony, isn’t that-?”

“Son of a bitch.” Tony mutters, recognizing the bearded man. His olive skin, dark graying hair, dark eyes. He’s scarred on one side of his face, his right arm useless and held in a sling. “That’s the asshole that held me in a cave for three months.”

Abu Bakaar. You know him only from the briefs in the files that Tony has.

“How the hell is he still alive?” Tony growls.

You can hear the hate in his voice, the fear. “I can get him, Tony. Before he escapes again.”

“What? No. Stick to the plan.”

“He’ll get away.” You complain.

“Y/N, stick to the plan.”

“I’m going in after him.” And you dive forward, your target set, your path unknown.

“Shit, no!” Tony yells and with no other choice, he follows you into the lion’s den.

“Why didn’t you two ask for backup?” Nat chastises as Sam and Steve wander in from the hallway that leads to the gym.

They both stop as they spot the pair of you, moving towards you both like Nat did, with concern in their eyes.

“What happened?” Steve asks, noticing the sling holding Tony’s arm.

You bite your lip, then reach up to bite your thumb’s nail as you fuss over his injury. If you hadn’t been stupid, he wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

“I’m fine.” Tony insists. “Let’s just get this debrief over with so that I can go take many, many pills.”

Sam and Steve move up towards the long tables where debriefs usually occur.

“F.R.I.D.A.Y. can you call Vision and Wanda?” Nat asks and doesn’t care to hear a response knowing the A.I. will do as she asks.

She’s already rushing to set up the computer.

“Tony…” You begin, moving towards him and reaching out for his uninjured hand.

He holds it up, stopping you, giving you no chance to grab his hand.

“I’m fine, Y/N.” He insists.

When he drops his hand, you reach for it again, but he moves away from you, trailing up towards the table and taking a seat at the opposite head so that he can look at the large display without obstruction.

You linger by the steps, wringing your hands as a black hole begins to settle in the base of your stomach.

You sit to Tony’s right, staring at him in search of the soft cuddly man from the island.

Even after his injury he’d been so sweet with you, caressing your head as you set his arm—just a dislocated shoulder but it really hurt so you’d put it in a sling to force him not to use it—as he assured you that he was fine.

He won’t even look at you now.

You meet Steve’s eyes, sitting across from you, and find him frowning. Eyebrows drawn together as he watches the way you slide your hand towards Tony’s, but he pulls it away making a show of scratching the back of his head or adjusting the sling on his arm.

Your ears burn when you see Steve notice this and quickly pull your hands down into your lap and divert all of your attention to the display.

You’re not listening as Tony explains the layout of the base and the different outposts. He talks about the initial scouting you two did and you remember all the romance in the moments between it. The touches. The escapes to your room and the sex among glittering seafoam crested waves. Soft spoken promises of devotion.

“Y/N?” Steve calls, pulling your mind back to the present.

“What?” You ask, startled.

“Bakaar? Tony says you saw him get away?” Steve asks, his fingers rapping on the table.

He’s tense. He’s trying to hide it but you can see it on him.

“I uh…” You glance at Tony and find his chocolate browns almost black as he stares you down, frowning lightly because of course he can see you analyzing Steve.

You scoot closer to him and reach under the table, stroking the thick muscle of his thigh but he clears his throat and gets up, pacing to the railing behind him to lean against.

“Yeah. He was on a boat and out of sight before we could follow. It was my fuck up. If I’d waited like Tony wanted to, we might have had him.” You confess, hating yourself for screwing this up.

“I’m sure it wasn’t your fault.” Steve assures you and maybe it’s because you and he haven’t really talked since your split but you’re grateful for his kindness and give him a small smile.

“It really was.” You promise him.

“Alright, he got away. We’ll keep an out for him. F.R.I.D.A.Y. send up all the usual red flags to all the big wigs. Get those satellites scanning. Find Bakaar.” Tony orders.

“Right away, boss.”

“Good? Okay. Nobody bother me. I’ll be drunk and drugged up in my room.” Tony announces then moves off towards the stairs.

You watch him as he goes, a small rise of panic in your chest at his upset with you. “If I can do anything, please let me know.”

Nat gives you a nod as she gathers up the mission reports and slides them to Steve, shutting off the computer as you rise. “Will do.”

You turn and scamper after Tony, eager to mend whatever break you’ve caused. “Tony?”

Steve waits for it, for their commentary on the way you seem to dote on Tony’s moods. He’s waiting for Sam to point out that you must have really fucked up in order for Tony to be so cold when he’s really only ever been full of affection for the woman he’s with.

An arm around their waist, hand holding, winks, even the occasional kiss on the cheek.

He can see that you and Tony have started seeing each other. It’s in the way you move, the looks you give him. It’s why Steve had stepped aside.

The moment Tony had told him that things with Pepper were going belly up, he knew that he’d eventually have to step aside so that you could have what you finally wanted.

Tony wanted you too, Steve has known that for a long time. Letting you go had been hard. He still wants to give in, go back to you, claim you as his own but he can’t because you want Tony.

He’d thrown himself into Betsy’s affections and that’s where he’s been for the past month.

So, the fact that Sam and Nat, Wanda and Vision already up and gone don’t comment on your anxiety throws him.

“What’s going on with them?” He asks and waits for one of them to answer.

“Vision and Wanda? They’re always like that. If you ask me, someone should have a talk with them about keeping the PDA a little more behind closed doors.” Sam complains.

Nat smirks. “You’re only saying that because you haven’t had a date in six weeks.”

“Four. Four weeks. Stop telling people it’s six weeks. That coffee with that nurse in the mess hall counts.” He says, pointing at Nat as she turns to look at Steve with that same smirk.

“What are you worrying about now?” She asks him, noticing the pucker between his eyes.

“I didn’t mean Vis and Wanda, I’m talking about Tony and Y/N.” Steve clears up, pulling the reports closer to adjust into a neater pile.

“Tony and Y/N?” Sam asks, getting up and shaking his head. “What about them? The mission was tough. I’m sure they’re just tired. Tony’s always a grump after a tough mission.”

“He’s being a little cold. So what?” Nat shrugs. “She did rush in and get his arm dislocated.”

Steve hesitates because he doesn’t want to say something and be wrong. But…no! It’s as clear as day to him that you and Tony are finally dating.

“Anyway, it’s kinda your fault for saying no.” Nat accuses him.

“My fault?” Steve asks, confused. “Saying no to what?”

“To the mission. I was already assigned to that conference in Washington. Sam had his V.A. thing. Rhodey is always running missions for D.C. Wanda and Vision were going on their vacation. Clint finally went home. Tony said he asked if you’d go with him and you said you couldn’t. Too busy with Betsy, huh?” Nat wiggles her eyebrows, but Steve is too busy reeling from this flat out lie that he doesn’t respond to the Betsy comment.

“He asked me to go with him?” He asks.

“Yeah.” Sam nods. “And if you’d gone, maybe Tony wouldn’t be in such a bad mood. I don’t know why we’re still sending Y/N out on missions when she can’t keep her head on straight long enough to consider everyone else in the room. I had to ask her to be nicer to Betsy after that one dinner, remember? That night you brought her?”

“What?” Steve remembers you throwing a small fit. Betsy’s confusion from it but it had blown over so quickly that he hadn’t spared it another thought. “What did you tell her?”

“I just told her that she wasn’t being very nice and if she wasn’t going to try that maybe she should stay in her room until she felt like being nicer.” Sam shrugs but then steps back as Steve stands suddenly, glaring at him with an anger that Sam has only ever seen trained at misbehaved recruits.

“Have you or have you not seen Tony and Y/N together?”

“Steve, what are you getting at?” Nat asks, a little exasperated with him. Steve can see the annoyance in her face.

“Tony…Y/N…they’re seeing each other, aren’t they?” He asks.

“What?” Nat shakes her head, utterly confused by his words. “It’s only been two months since Tony and Pepper split.”

“Yeah,” Sam agrees. “I mean, if he was seeing her, talk about a downgrade.”

Steve slams his hand down on the table. It groans and shifts from the strength of his hit but the fire in his chest is scorching.

“What the hell is your problem with her, Sam?” Steve demands, rage building at the clear dislike Sam has for you.

Would he still be treating you like this if he knew how Steve feels about you? Steve wonders.

“I don’t necessarily have a problem with her. I just—if you ask me, she needs more training. She’s not ready to be on the team.” He assesses.

“So instead of offering to train her you decide to spit insults at her behind her back?” Why does this happen to you? Steve doesn’t understand it. What is it about you that sets people on edge?

“It’s not that I’m…listen, I don’t dislike the girl. She and I just don’t flow on the same wavelength. I think I’d get frustrated trying to train her.” Sam admits, sending another wave of anger through Steve making his vision flash red.

“That isn’t teamwork, Sam. And you should know better.” Steve chastises him then grabs the reports and walks off before either of them can say anything more to stop him.

As he makes his way to his room, he realizes that your happily ever after with Tony might just run into a few snags because Tony, like he had done, seems to be hiding you from the rest of the team too and this discovery fills Steve with a wicked amount of apprehension and fury.

Steve sticks around. He lingers in the common spaces and as sneakily as possible, he looks for you.

He waits for you and Tony to come out together because he does follow you to Tony’s den and you spend days locked up in there with him.

Yes. You and Tony are together…at least within the confines of Tony’s den.

In the two weeks since Steve has started his search for proof of you and Tony’s relationship, only twice has he seen you and Tony together among the others.

Once, at another of Tony’s usual galas, he takes you to the dance floor and he twirls you around the floor teal illuminated floor.

You look beautiful in a stunning red satin gown. It clings to your form in all the right places and if Steve didn’t have Betsy on his arm, he might have given in to his urge to ask you to dance too but out of respect for you and Tony, he doesn’t.

He watches you light up in Tony’s arms, ecstatic to be his girl but as soon as the song ends, Tony drops you off at the bar and takes Nat out to dance. Then Wanda. Then Maria.

Steve watches you sit at the bar and stare as Tony takes out several more women out to dance before drifting off to mingle amongst his guests.

He doesn’t find you again that night and you get steadily more and more drunk.

Betsy wants to leave so Steve walks her out and gets her into one of Tony’s chauffeured cars, kisses her cheek, then hurries back up to the dance floor.

He doesn’t see you at first but as he casually moves through the party goers, sliding along the limestone floor, and banquet tables, he scans every corner of the room.

As he passes the bar, he sees your glass sitting just where you’d been, glass nearly full of what would have been your fifth whiskey of the night.

With his hands shoved into his pockets, he follows the route you would have most likely taken and considers the bathroom.

Purpose driven steps pull him towards that small hallway where the bathrooms wait. He holds his arm up on the doorway as two giggling socialites gawk at him in his formal wear, then he slides the door shut behind him as he moves towards the women’s bathroom.

He stops before the door, hesitating.

Shit. He should have grabbed one of those girls to check for you in there since he can’t go.

He raises his hand, lifting it to knock on the heavy wooden door but stops when he hears a familiar whimper.

He turns to his left, moving down past the men’s bathroom towards a closet at the end of the hall. The door isn’t shut all the way and he peeks in and wishes he hadn’t.

Your pretty dress is pulled up, gathered around your waist, laying on what must be Tony’s tuxedo jacket.

He’s kissing your neck, sucking on the skin that Steve remembers tasting himself. Sweet sugar and dewy honey. Tony’s movements are quick and rough, a frantic pulsing of thrusts as he yanks down the top of your dress and your breasts spill out to bounce with the urgency of his need.

Steve’s shock robs him of words for thoughts and speaking. He reaches to shut the door, but he seems to be catching the show just as it’s over.

You give that familiar tremble and your body clings to Tony as you’re awash in ecstasy. Tony clutches you close, thrusting into you a few more times before he buries himself deep and hits his peak too.

Your arms fall over your head and the thought pops into his head before he can stop it.

Too rough. Steve hates to see your body used because to him, that’ what it looks like.

There’s no love in what he just saw. Only lust. He very nearly decides that what Tony can give you is nothing more than pain and the very next morning he’ll convince you of it and hope that you come away with him…then Tony nuzzles his nose into your cheek, into your hair, kissing you softly with fluttering pecks.

Steve stares because yes, what he just saw was nothing but lust but there in the vestiges of whatever Tony had just done to you, is the love.

He knows it because he’s felt it. He gave you those same caresses, those same kisses.

Tony finds your lips and kisses you slow and genuine, his eyes boring into yours though your eyes are hazy with whiskey, telling you without words how much he loves you.

Steve shuts the door, silently, and heads back into the ballroom, staring up at the stained-glass ceiling for what feels like a long time as he considers both sides of this argument.

Tony is clearly keeping you to himself. Truly to himself. All night he’s ignored you, refusing to show anyone what you really mean to him. Why?

Is he ashamed? He has no reason to be. You’re…a little reckless at times, quick to anger, but you’re passionate and playful. You love with your whole heart and the damages of your youth are not are a struggle but one that Tony should be willing to carry.

If he loves you, he must have comforted you in the night when you wake up from those nightmares, right? He must have held you and kissed you and assured you that you were good and just right the way you are, right?

The door behind him opens and Tony emerges, tuxedo jacket back on but wrinkled. He looks around, smoothing his hair before spotting someone at the other end of the room. His head tilts to the right and he hurries across the dance floor.

Steve waits for you to follow but after five minutes, when you don��t, he sighs and ducks back into the hallway. He checks the closet again, hoping that you’re in the bathroom instead but he finds you there, sitting against the wall with your head resting against the cool stone. You’re decent at least, so there’s that.

Your head swivels in his direction and after a moment your eyes shine with recognition.

“Steve!” You gasp, smiling, stupidly happy to see him. “Hi!”

“Hey, doll face. Come on. Let’s get you home.” Steve moves over to you and you reach up to wrap your arm around his neck instinctively.

You smell like a liquor store and Steve finds that the rage in his belly just won’t quit. He feels sick to his stomach. Angry enough to punch someone.

He lifts you, holding you close as he kicks the closet door open and then heads for the ballroom.

“He just left you in there?” He asks, not really even sure if you’re listening.

“Tony said he’d be right back for me.” You argue, drunk but not as drunk as he might think maybe.

“Well, it’s been almost ten minutes.” Steve argues back.

You groan, an angry grimace thrown his way, but you’re already dozing on his shoulder and he doesn’t want to wake you.

It takes skill to get you snuck through the ballroom without the team seeing you. He doesn’t want Sam judging you or Nat frowning at you disapprovingly. Wanda would probably offer to help but then chastise you gently even through your sleep.

And for some reason, Steve wants to see the panic in Tony’s eyes when he doesn’t find you shut away in that closet.

Used and discarded. He thinks, though he knows he’s being unfair.

He was no better, keeping you to himself, shut up in your room.

His heart aches with guilt at the thought. He should have shoved you in all of their faces.

Steve has nearly made it to the front doors, having avoided most of the notable guests when he hears Tony’s voice, strained and stressed.

He’s hidden in an alcove in the large foyer. Steve hurries forward, eager to get out of the building before he’s seen when a second voice reaches his ears.

“This is the problem. This right here, Tony. You talk about commitment and the future like you’re ready but you’re not. You keep playing these games and I can’t wait around for you to be ready to grow up.”

“Pepper-Pep-Pepper, wait. Alright? Wait. Look, I’m working on it. I’m…I know I’m a mess.” Tony says.

“You’ve said all of this to me before, Tony. And you’re right. You’re all over the damn place. How do you expect me to start a life with someone who can’t even remember to pay his taxes? Or be there when he says he’ll be there. I waited for six hours. Six! You didn’t call. You didn’t even try and get word to me that you were caught up doing all these crazy things that you do, and it’s not like you were saving the world, Tony. I know you weren’t. You were stuck in your lab, fiddling with your toys, oblivious to the world around you. What are you going to do if we have kids? I need an adult-” Pepper pleads.

Tony tries to cut her off, “Pepper-”

But she speaks over him, shutting him up. “-someone who is willing to deal with his problems and not run from them. Someone who can put me first. Put our life first before all the bullshit this job of yours asks for. If you want this to work, you need to get your shit together, Tony. I can’t wait forever, and I’m very nearly done waiting.”

She’s near tears, and Steve can hear that. As he pushes through the door, he can hear Tony calling after her. Chasing her. With you, forgotten in a closet.

Steve waits for two hours, leaning against the wall outside your door.

He hadn’t undressed you. He hadn’t cleaned you up. He’d put you to bed, aspirin and water left for you to drink, then planted himself outside to wait.

Every minute that passed felt like an age. How long would you have been waiting in that closet if he hadn’t gone back in to look for you? How would you have felt when you came to and realized that Tony had forgotten you in there?

His newly acquired knowledge, the fact that Tony is still pleading with Pepper to take him back, makes the entire night so much worse. You don’t know what’s happening. To you, this isn’t as bad as it really is.

He hears him before he sees him. Fast, agitated footsteps on the cold dark concrete of the hallway, approaching from the stairs.

Steve doesn’t let himself look up. He keeps his eyes trained on the spot before him, right where the wall meets the floor. He chews on his tongue, urging himself into a calm.

The feet stop, and the musk of Tony’s cologne wafts towards him, churning his stomach.

Tony has always been a friend. A comrade. Someone that Steve can rely on. Although they may not have hit it off right away, over time, they grew close.

Now, Steve is fighting every fiber of his being to keep from breaking Tony’s nose.

“What are you doing here?” Tony asks, the jealous spike in his voice too much for Steve.

He scoffs, standing up straight but tightening the cross of his arms over his chest.

“I don’t think she was ever going to let you go without giving it a real good try first. It’s who she is. She wants something, she’ll get it. And she may be naïve but she’s not stupid, Tony.

“I don’t know what game you’re playing with her or if it’s some type of deal that you two have struck like she and I had but I do know that she loves you.”

“What’s your point, Rogers?” Tony asks, chest puffing out in his irritation.

Steve walks close, stopping when he’s standing right beside Tony to look down at his offended expression.

“My point is you should really be careful where you and Pepper have your lovers’ spats. If Y/N hadn’t been passed out drunk when I carried her out, she would have heard enough to know that you want Pepper back.” Steve lets that sink in, waiting for Tony to speak but he only looks away, towards your door.

“I wish I could ask you not to break her heart, but I think that’s inevitable now. If you’re not going to choose her…end it now. Before she can plan a future that she’ll never have. It’ll only hurt more when you rip it away from her.”

The second time Steve sees you and Tony not holed up in his den, is at a team dinner. Nothing special happens. No big reveals and no upsets. The only upset lies with Steve because he has to watch Tony push you away.

“Where’s Betsy, Steve?” Sam asks, smiling from ear to ear as he settles his elbows onto the table.

“We’re taking a break. She’s working on a big project for Fury and she doesn’t think she can give me the time I deserve.” He says, easy.

It isn’t a lie. Betsy is indeed busy with a plan for Fury, but the break is more from her loss of interest. Steve doesn’t blame her. Since the night of the gala, he’s been distracted. Less attentive.

He’s been watching Tony like a hawk and he’s seen him more than a handful of times in the weeks since the gala meet up with Pepper. Whether it’s to talk about business or their person lives, he doesn’t know.

What he does know is that you’re still very much a secret and Steve is starting to realize that it’s more for Pepper’s benefit than yours.

“How’s Pepper, Tony? Haven’t seen her around lately.” Steve asks, throwing the name out deliberately to get a reaction.

He hates that the name makes your eyes flood with confusion. You look up at him, full of wonder and anger because of course you’re going to hate him for bringing up Tony’s ex, but he has to make you see or make Tony confess.

Tony’s face is stoic, though his eyes betray a shift of anger. “She’s fine. We met up for breakfast two days ago.”

“You did?” You blurt out, suddenly nervous, eyes trained on Tony.

“Yeah.” Tony tells you, but he doesn’t look at you.

“That’s so great, Tony.” Wanda offers. “Any progress? We’re all rooting for you two.”

Steve watches you, frowning as your eyes pool as you stare at center of the table, hands tightly fisting the soft fabric of your skirt. No one else has noticed but the dishes on the table have begun to hover. No more than a few centimeters but enough that if one is paying attention, they’d see it.

“No. Nothing like that. It was for the company. She had some questions about some old projects I had started when I was still CEO.” He tells her, and though everyone else forgets the topic, you clearly don’t.

“Oh, I’ve got an update for you on Abu Bakaar, Tony.” Nat says, sliding out of her seat to grab the clicker for the large display at the end of the table.

Vision slides over and Steve can’t tear his eyes off of you as you sit there, rigid, to Tony’s left.

“F.R.I.D.A.Y. the lights?” Nat asks, and the lights dim.

While Nat brings the monitor down and everyone at the table shifts to look over at what she’s doing, Tony finally looks at you and reaches out for your hand but you yank it away, sliding away from him hard, twisting your body around to look up at the monitor.

Steve can see that you want to cry and the tick in his jaw snaps audibly as he shifts his eyes to Tony and finds him watching him right back.

“We picked up his trail in Malaysia.” Nat clicks her remote and pulls up several photos of the weathered man outside a high scale bar. “Not really doing much. Trying to lay low probably but he’s out of practice.”

She clicks her remote and a new set of pictures crop up.

“He moved north into Cambodia, then Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, into China,” With each new place, new pictures are pulled up of him in cars, buses, sitting by bodies of water and large ornate buildings. “And our last scout puts him in Nepal. He’s hiding out in some village on the Himalayas. Beautiful but not luxurious. He’s taking the hiding more seriously now. I was thinking we could go in, all of us.”

Steve is focused on the mission, listening carefully to the description of Bakaar’s route for a pattern as to why he’d go so far north then divert back to the south west.

“Y/N…” With your name called, Steve’s attention is brought back to you and he finds you sitting up straight, staring at the screen with a frown. You turn to Nat. “…I know you faced this guy before but if he saw you, do you think he’d recognize you?”

Steve already doesn’t like where this is going.

“No. Not if I wear the right clothes.”

“What are you thinking?” Tony asks Nat, wary eyes flashed your way at the foolhardy spark in your own.

“He knows us, Tony. All of us. The whole world does. I can blend in and Steve is good at being quick but if we want to get this guy, we’re going to have to get close.” She looks at you and smiles. “Can you do it? He won’t know we have you. What you can do? It’s perfect.”

Steve hates the smile on Nat’s face. The want to throw you into the thick of what might very well be an ambush?

“No.” He says, stern, decided.

“What?” Nat asks, turning to him.

“Yes. I’ll do it.” You tell Nat.

“No.” Steve says, turning to face you.

He can see the defiant upturn in your face, the clear anger in your eyes. You’re jumping at the chance of danger after all that Pepper talk from before.

“It’s too dangerous.” He tells you.

“I don’t care. I’ll be good in there. I can do it.” You glare at him.

“I said no, Y/N. You’re not thinking straight.” He accuses.

You shoot to your feet, the dishes that had still been hovering falling at the same time as your focus is diverted.

“I don’t care what you say, I’m doing it whether you want me to or not.”

“It’s a trap.” Steve explains, getting louder. His chest aches with fear at the thought of you sliding into the village, getting yourself close enough for them to trap or worse, kill. “Those pictures, the path they’re taking, Bakaar wants to be found. You’re not going.”

“You can’t tell me what to do!” You shout at him, hands fisted, lip shaking with rage.

“The hell I can’t! I’m Captain of this damn team and you will do what I say. We are not using you like some tool to sneak in. You’re not some hidden weapon for us to thrust out when we want to use you and put you away when we don’t.” Steve’s aware of the argument he’s making.

He knows that to you and to Tony, this will all mean so much more than just the mission, but he can’t help it. The thought of you exposed like that terrifies him and he is not going to let you do it.

You scoff, tears pooling in your eyes again as his argument hits the sore spot he was aiming for. When you speak, the hurt he just caused you cuts him as your voice drops back down to a low and calm cadence.

“You of all people should know Steve that I’m everyone’s dirty little secret.” You turn to Nat as Steve swallows hard and he watches as you make up your mind. “I’ll do it.”

Nat seems to understand that something more is going on here, and though she might not know exactly what, she knows that it’s serious.

As you move around Tony, yanking your hand away from him as he tries to catch you on your way around him, Nat finds Steve’s eyes and silently asks him what the hell she’s missing.

“How long have you been meeting with her, Tony?” You’re almost afraid to hear the answer.

Your gut screams at you, has been screaming at you, that things are not as perfect as you wish they were.

You’ve known for a while that Tony has been keeping you hidden, refusing to let anyone see that you’re his and that he’s yours…thought, maybe that’s because he never was?

“Since the beginning.” He says.

You stop your pacing and look over at him, sitting on the top step of the stairs that lead down into his lab. Wringing his hands, muscular arms straining with the tension of what this conversation means for both of you.

“Since the beginning.” You repeat and resume your pacing. “How long were you going to string me along?”

“That’s not what I was-”

“Oh, cut the bullshit, Tony!” You scream, broken by his denial because it’s so far from the truth. How dare he even attempt to deny it. “You’ve been meeting with her since the beginning and what? You were going to introduce us and hope for the best? Maybe get a little ménage à trois?”

“No!” He insists, getting a little loud too. “Would you just-”

“Don’t fucking tell me to calm down!” You don’t mean to do it, but your temper gets the better of you and the cup of coffee you’d been drinking in the morning, happily sipping as Tony kissed your head, flies towards him.

You reach your hand out, stopping it before it hits him, and it falls to the ground and shatters.

“Fuck.” You sigh, moving to sit in his rolling chair to try and calm yourself.

You look at him and he’s staring at the floor, face screwed up with guilt and hurt.

You sob, allowing your emotions to bubble but focus on the ones that aren’t violent. It’s so difficult for you to control your ability. Even after so many years. You know you’ve neglected it, pushed it down because it’s what took your whole world and turned it into a nightmare.

You’ve never gained anything good from your power and you wish you could just shove it deep into a box and bury it with your parents.

“I can’t find any good reason for you to have done this to us, Tony. Why? Why would you make me feel this way if you wanted her back?”

“I wanted you.” He says, “I’ve wanted you for so long. I-I do love you, Y/N.”

“But not enough?”

“It’s not that.” He says.

You get up and move to him, dropping down to your knees before him, resting your hands on his. “Then choose me.”

For a fleeting moment, your mind is plagued by Steve’s own voice, begging you for the exact same thing you’re begging of Tony and you feel the weight of his grief double your own.

Did Steve love you then? Really love you?

“I can’t.” Tony sighs, reaching up to cup the sides of your face. “You and me won’t work, kid.”

You cry, face crumbling at his touch. It puckers and floods. You look down at his lap, hating the truth of his words. You already knew that he wasn’t going to choose you.

“But why?” You ask him, reaching up to cling to his hands.

“I’m not…I can barely take care of myself.” He confesses. “You and me, we’re both broken, and I can’t be there for you the way you need me. I wish I could give you what you want. What you deserve but I-”

You pull his hands away from your face, sobbing loudly, hating him for this but also wishing he’d crush you to his chest.

“I’m sorry.” He whispers, reaching for you and pulling you close so that he can kiss the side of your head. “I’m sorry.”

“I hate you.” You gasp at him, pulling away from him to walk around him and move up the stairs. “I hate you.”

But you don’t. And that’s what kills you.

You pass Wanda and Vision on your way up the stairs to the common room and they stop at the sight of you falling to pieces. A mess of tears and snot.

“Y/N? Are you alright?” Vision asks.

“Of course, she’s not.” Wanda chastises him.

“I’m sorry. I only meant it as an offer of assistance.” Vision explains.

You leave them behind, as you reach the common room landing. The meeting very much over but workaholics Nat and Steve still huddled in front of the display looking at the same photos over and over again to see if maybe this mission might really be a trap.

Steve looks up first and when he spots you, he straightens up, moving around the table and down the steps to stand a few feet from you as you continue to break.

Nat gasps quietly, suddenly worried about the state that you’re in and that argument from the meeting clearly playing itself over again in her head.

“Y/N?” She probes carefully, moving down the steps but stopping there because your eyes are on Steve and Steve’s eyes are on you.

He watches you, staring with a regretful but smug fix of his brow. Dark, storm blue eyes knowing.

“How long have you known?” You ask him, somehow finding the strength to speak.

“Since the gala.” He admits and you nod, understanding now that Tony had really forgotten you in that supply closet.

You’d thought it was a dream. A hazy nightmare where the man who claimed to love you avoided you the entire night, then dragged you into a closet to fuck you and then forgot about you.

As you meet Steve’s eyes, you succumb to the truth that this is not a nightmare. It’s only your life.

A life where you give up the love you deserve for the love you desire and have now lost them both.

“Steve…” You plead, moving closer to him by a single step. Does he know how sorry you are?

Steve takes a breath. His wide shoulders rise and fall with the weight of his sigh, expelling his own heartbreak as he opens his mouth to speak.

So I don’t normally log onto this account much so I haven’t seen any of the many messages and such I’ve been getting on recent posts concern some dumb drama. In a nut shell, some adults who act more like immature children from the Mean Girls universe love to make crap up and I was the current target as I.... was breathing? I dunno. Apparently I’m the anti christ or something and they haven’t gotten over that their attempts to cancel me and even cause me to commit acts of self harm with continued targeted harassment and involving me in drama I know nothing about have all failed. Frankly, it’s because I literally don’t give a shit. I come to tumblr to RP, make my posts, and then hop on my PS4, switch, class work, gym time whatever. I don’t care about drama or what’s going on in the RPC as I know it’s a shot show filled with drama and people trying gossip girl type ‘takedowns’ of others just for breathing in when they were suppose to breathe out.

Because of that crap I literally just sign on to in the RPs I’m in then close the tumble tab. I do not have a personal, I do not check out any tags other than for the face claims I use to get pics or gifs, and I go out of my way NOT to know anyone’s personal blogs or their aliases. If we talk on discord great, if not, great as well. I do occasionally make my own group and put my current one on hiatus as the recent drama turned me off but going to reopen it soon. I’ve just been part of a couple of groups since and currently. However, since some people are interested in my past here because of the nonsense, here we go.

I was on an RP called alegendreborn which was one of my first RPs on tumblr. It seemed great and welcoming. I picked one of their skeleton canons and was happy to be there. I got along with people but didn’t know how to reblog properly as I was new to tumblr and three way posts were extreme confusing. Apparently my inability to properly reblog them pissed off some of the members. Because of that I only really talked to one person in the RP who helped me learn how to reblog correctly. Also, my character had a pre-established connection to another as a ‘best friend’ so we had a couple of threads. However, I quickly noticed the min of that character could go 3 weeks to months without posting but pass all activity checks and would focus on bubble RPing with the same three muns. When this person ignored our thread for weeks I sent them three messages four days apart each that reminded them of the thread which I was told they’d post. On the last message I told this person I was ending our thread and requesting that staff change my characters group in an event they were running as they put our characters in the same group and I no longer trusted this person to post in a timely manner to me. I was quickly ‘invited to leave’ and had multiple members message me on Skype to basically tell me I was shit and an awful person for trying to get a reply I’d been waiting 2 months to get. So I left and never looked back.

I later joined an RP called warofthenewage-rpg which again seemed friendly but much more basic lore wise than the previous RP. I quickly noticed a character who was almost EXACTLY like a skeleton canon I had on an RP I made on a jcink forums RP two years before. I messaged the player of that character asking if he knew of my RP he said he did but before I could presue anything he instantly wanted to plot my character with his. I did message the main about it but was later told they ‘never got it’. We plotted our character as a couple as the chemistry they were displaying in our first few threads was very apparent and we loved posting together and could pop out paragraphs of posts minutes after the other just posted. Eventually, that min begun to became very controlling of how and what I was posting. If my character had a thought of his that wasn’t postive or lovey, he’d berate the hell out of me on Skype and threaten to end our plot. Apparently he had also been complaining the his friends in the RP and told them I posted ‘too many actions’ and that it made him feel forced to react in specific ways. That telephoned to other members and morphed into I was forcing him to do exactly what I told him to post and poweplaying/god modding him. Now I come from forum RPs and there to post A LOT and you progress the thread with each post. This is done so you’re not 30 posts in and you’re characters are still at the door that one of them knocked on in the very first post.

Eventually, most members begun to refuse to speak to me because of the complaining he did which they’d snowball into some out of this world epic drama. The staff even begun to be hostile, use the gossip blog to belittle my character, and would pretend not to receive my applications when I tried for additional characters or my wanted ads but use the info to create a very similar character or ‘update’ an existing one. Well, about 2 months of members ignoring me or belittling me followed, staff made it worse and the mun I had a plot with decided to when not telling me I suck and no one liked me, he’d say we still had our plot but then took my character out of the equation and made another character take his place. Naturally I was upset as I had been through months of harassment, belittling, and treated like crap by everyone in the RP because of this guy only to in the end be thrown away. I resolved to move my character on. I only spoke to him and two other people in the RP and one of them had a character that was insanely into my character. However, the guy I had the plot with was insanely sexually attracted to the face claim so when my character and this new one had threads, he tried to tell the RP and even the other mun that I was forcing them into posting and into smutting which was engaged by the other person in one of our threads. I was harassed by that guy for days until I dropped that plot and basically used a ‘reset’ option for my character. However, that pissed off the guy and I again was relentlessly attacked by him on Skype. After months of the members ignoring me for (to my knowledge, no reason as I never spoke with 98% of the RP) or insulting me and out right telling me to kill myself, an attempt was made and I was effectively gone for almost two months for recovery.

Almost a year later I came back and begun to remake my old jcink RP here on tumblr. It took me about 5 months to do and I dug up codes from codepen and codrops to use in the theme. I also copied the aesthetic from the jcink RP’s theme and brought it over. The RP was very popular and seen as one of the best designed and story driven ‘mutant’ type RPs around. However, an admin from another RP became very bitter at it and me. This admin ran an RPH and had their own RP in the same genre in the past. They were revamping it and noticed our RPs had a similar aesthetic, apparently monchromatic themes AKA a them that uses shades of white, grey, and black for most of its coloring was only allowed to be used by that admin. The admin attacked my RP and claimed I had stolen their theme and coding and even went so far as going into my coding and pasting selective bits of it. I was asleep when she made the original post and woke up to dozens of anon messages ranging from calling me a thief to demanding I kill myself. All my members were harassed in the same way and she had contacted all the RPHs I had asked for a shoutout or was on their spotlights of to ‘inform them’ and then openly attack them if they didn’t remove any mention of my RP and signal boost her post. She even went so far as to harass and threaten RPs I was on, that I was one, or that had a character that sounded anything like any of mine. I even had an affiliation thing started but many of those I had been added to messaged me that they were being harassed and I told them to pretend they didn’t know what was going on. I’d take the hit for them and spare them farther harassment and leave their RPs if they wanted as I was on most of them.

During this time I was recovering from everything I was being slammed with be anons and the RPs previously mentioned going off as well in some pity attempt to get revenge for... not being liked on their RPs three and two years previously? I also was collecting evidence that many of the codes this RPH claimed she made and in stole were in fact on codrops and codepen. A good amount I made myself but a large chunk were from these resource sites with some heavy edits so they’d work better on tumblr. I even had evidence that many of her own coding templates had codes directly from these sites and others with no credit given to them and her claiming she created all the coding on her own. I submitted it to many RPHs and many of them saw the error and how this person was very toxic in the community and was making more drama than helping it. Some ignored it outright as she was popular and I was just a nobody. It took 3 years to recover from it in terms of my reputation and I again shut down my RP for a bit as I had made another attempt on my own life as that person and her friends continued to harass me and attack me on their personal or RPH accounts.

The last bit of drama came when I joined an RP called Corinth Bay. At first there wasn’t any and I had long since adopted my, sign on just to post and then bounce method of being on an RP. I eventually got to know one member named Shane. @inthenamexofthemoon I think we became pretty good friends as we talked everyday for basically the whole day. We had plots, enjoyed posting, and just chatting. I noticed that RP was heavily cliquey and wasn’t aware that Shane was a part of the admin’s clique. This group had multiple issues with member complaining their characters were being ignored and people were bubble RPing with the same people over and over. I myself had to constantly ask people if they wanted to plot or just post and even the main had to post up announcement about ignoring starters to make closed ones and expanding who they post with. I also had questions on much of the lore of the RP as other than the origins of each supernatural species, the lore was very generic and vague. I asked around and got a lot of different opinions on what could or couldn’t be done by each species and just went with what was common among them all. Shane himself helped me a bit and I went with his suggestions which apparently were completely wrong as the staff had to talk to me on ‘breaking lore’.

After that, I expressed openly how I felt the staff didn’t like me and my concern that given how cliquey the place was, if the staff didn’t like me I’d probably be ‘exiled’ from the group as a whole AKA no one would post or talk to me. Which did happen with the exception of Shane. Others I had spoken to had long left and told me stories of the awfulness of some of the members and staff. So I begun working on an RP of the same genre that I had half finished years before. Shane was kept in the loop every step of the way and pinned and loved all the lore I showed him which I did to ensure it was both in-depth and easy to follow but also wasn’t ‘bad’ IE, offensive if certain things are mentioned. He loved it and ensured me it was great and pinned everything I showed him so he’d reference it when making his characters. Eventually I worked on it so much that I kept only the bare minimum activity requirements for Corinth Bay but obeyed the rules of activity to the letter. However, the staff ultimately removed me despite even admitting that they knew I still had a couple of days before failing the activity check and had actually ‘not counted’ a couple of posts I made for an event going on as I should have replied to starters for it first but it wasn’t a requirement. Also they used a blog to post up starters as many RPs like to do now only they were also slow to reblog them and never used the starter tags so they’d get buried quickly on the dash with everyone posting picture posts and what not.

Ultimately I gave up on that RP, didn’t need the toxic environment and finished mine. Shane got very quiet though and didn’t reply to my discord messages for a couple of days. When he did he suddenly got a bit hostile and everything in my RP WAS ‘problematic’ and because of that he wouldn’t be joining. I had no idea what he meant as before he said it was perfect and awesome so I asked what he meant specifically. Eveutally he told me a little of what he meant. Apparently there was racism as In the witch’s page mentioning that voodoo and other cultural magical/practices was a form of magic some witches practiced was both racist and cultural appropriation. Although voodoo was indeed a magical/belief practice used as a magical practice I decided to just remove its mention in the end. He also didn’t like that in the lore, there were female characters that were ‘bad’ and that was sexist. This I choose not to change as it’s sexist to say women can’t be villains and felt as just an excuse. Especially since my lore included many powerful women, men, and gender less entities that were villains, heroes, and neutral parties.

Eventually after opening, I decided to message the people I had previous posted with telling them the RP was ready and I’d love for them to check it out. Those from Corinth Bay I messaged were either aware I was making one and wanted to see it or were people Shane and I hinted to it being made and they had at least a slight interest in it. Admittedly, I also messaged blogs that came on the ‘recommended blogs’ part of the dash. Only those that were inactive according to the last few IC posts that were showing in their blogs. I know this gets a mixed reaction from some as some view it as a horrible thing even if the blogs are inactive but many MANY people also appriecate it and the fact that someone read their blog and was very impressed with their writing ability and character. I myself receive many of these messages on my retired blogs and don’t see an issue with it myself. Even if I did I’d just block the blog that sent it and never think of them again like a normal person.

One of the members I DIDN’T even know who they were apparently didn’t like this and decided to make drama over it. To this day I don’t know who this person even is or was when I was on that RP and still don’t as everyone drops and makes new characters when bored on there. Shane went fully 180 on me and turned vile and petty which is clearly to save face with the people on that RP. He knows me from all our talks and that the bullshit he spreads is itself false but still was a bit of a pity bitch for a while. Apparently the friend @stephwuzhere @loganlcrmans of the admin that tried to cancel me also wanted to rehash that old drama but was quickly shut down. I had no idea who this person even was at first as again, I don’t follow any tags and go out of my way to avoid personal blogs and ones like RPH, RPT, and whatever unless just asking for a quick shoutout to my RP. I had no idea that this person was also very toxic and involved in targeted harassment, grooming, and identity theft of various people in the RPC just because she didn’t like them at the moment.

I have decided to stay away from this shit storm despite some of these people still trying to drag me into it even though I literally haven’t thought about them for months and barely even remember they exist. I’ll be reopening my RP soon and hope that these people who live their privlenged lives will eventually get over themselves and do some growing up. I say their are privileged because you must be if you can harp on drama for months and keep dragging someone you have no connection or knowledge of. The rest of us, adults, have things like work, bills, school, friends, and trying to destress from watching our bank account get more and more empty to care about pity immature online drama. Especially when it’s bullshit like ‘he dared to remind me he exists’. Please, grow up and do better people. There is life outside of the internet and when you get too old to be in the RPC which is apparently a thing now, you’ll see just how stupid you were to make so much drama for no reason other than being pity, stupid, immature, brats.

"So, is he coming?" one of your friends asked.

You smiled. It's your birthday party. Who's boyfriend on the right mind will not be in his girlfriends birthday party?

"Maybe? Not sure. He said he's finishing some editing for his pending projects." you said shrugging. Not sure if your face didn't show how bitter you feel.

"Well, he better show up. It's your freaking birthday."

"Yea. Even though it's work, you're his woman. We understand that he doesn't like chitchats with many people but at least his presence is needed here."

You did not answer. How can you? They are right. You're in a relationship with him for almost two years and many of them really didn't get a chance to know him really. Every time your friends set up a group date, he's locked up at his studio, ending up you being the plus one of the group.

You can't blame them having their doughts about your relationship with Christian.

You busied yourself assisting your friends. You tried your best to not look up your phone and the time. The time that past by and still Christian hasn't shown up and failed to even text or give you a call.

"I think he's not coming, huh?" Jessi stated. You shrugged. "Then if that's the case, why don't we stay over - drink and make our selves drunk like the good old days."

"Yea! Yea! It's been a while we gather like this. It's rare so let's make for it." Hoody agreed.

You automatically looked at Jessi's boyfriend and Hoody's "friend".

"Are you sure that it's fine?" you voiced out while looking at the two guys.

"Of course!" all of them said.

"Alright. Let's wait for the others to leave then." you smiled.

Most of your other friends headed out. They kissed their good bye's and greet you for the last time. You thanked them. Some of them mentioned their dismay not meeting "The Christian Yu", your so-called boyfriend.

You apologized and said he's busy with work.

"Okay, guys! ITS TIME TO GET WASTED!" Jessi announced and you can't help but laugh.

"Oops! I think we don't have enough booze," you said while looking at your fridge.

"Don't worry. I called Gray-Oppa to bring us some." Hoody said while waving her hand as if it was nothing. As if you and Gray wasn't your ex-boyfriend.

20 minutes later, your doorbell rang.

"Hey! Happy birthday, sexy lady." Gray said as he kissed you on your cheeks. He smiled as he raised the plastic bag containing beer cans.

You moved aside for him to walk inside. While he removed his shoes he said, "I hope you don't mind me coming, I heard he's not here." he meant Christian.

"Of course not. I'm glad you could make it."

"5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1! Happy Birthday (Y/N)"

Everyone make a circle, you in a middle and hugged and kissed you. You never felt so happy. Nothing beats being surrounded by genuine people on your special day.

Hours passed and most of Y'all are drunk. Jessi and his boyfriend already find their way to my spare room.

"I think I have to get going." Hoody's "friend", said while gathering his things.

"Awww." You said. You know you're already at your limit because if you are in your right mind, you're not someone who's making cute sounds or more likely flirty like your body's doing right now.

"I have things to tend to before lunch later. And if I stay, I'm not sure if I can get up early to be there," he said apologetically.

"Hoody..." you said as you tried waking her up. But it's no good, she's already drooling at your couch.

"Okay man. I'll lead you out." Gray stand up - barely. He's at his limit as well. You know it since he keeps laughing even theirs no one's saying any jokes.

"Bye. Thank you for coming!" you manage to shout while you let yourself fall on the floor, making your one arm as a pillow.

You can feel the footstep getting closer on where you at. It stopped. You heard a sighed.

"(Y/N)... get up. Let's call it a day. You'll catch a cold if you lay there for too long." Gray said.

"No. One more round!" You immediately sit up that you almost bump at Gray's head.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

You looked at your phone. It's almost 3 am and the last message you received from your boyfriend was already 24hours ago. No missed call. No midnight greeting. Not even a single text!

"I'm fucking sure. Now, open that can would you."

In just 4 cans, you are already laughing with Gray, like true drunks. There's even a time that Hoody throw a pillow at you because you're being too loud.

After that, Gray come closer at you and whisper something about Hoody and her so-called friend. But you didn't understand any of it because all you can focus with is how you felt when his breath landed on your ear. There is even a moment that his lips touch the tip of your ear.

When he is done and looking at you - no idea what's running in your mind. He is waiting for a reaction from you about what he just said.

You just laugh, then he looked away and you grab your phone. You text Christian. After making sure it was sent. You turned it off. You set it aside.

You looked at the man in front of you. He starts talking about something happened at his latest project. He stopped when you suddenly try standing up but failed to do it alone, so he immediately holds you to support you or rather support each of you since he barely manages to stand up as well.

The way he wraps his arms around you is more off hugging you than supporting you to stand. You felt warn all over your body.

"I'm sorry. I think I'm tired, we should go to bed." You tried to stand still. You turned to face him. You saw how red his face. Maybe it's because he's drunk. He looked at you as if memorizing every bit of your face.

You lean closer to give him a peck on his cheek to say good night. But your lips landed to his lips. It shocked the hell out of you, but you hide it inside and act as if it was nothing.

You felt his lips were about to move, so you panicked and move away from him. But before you can completely enter your room, he caught your left arm. He made you face him.

"What?" You asked.

"What? I'm the one who should ask that." He said while his other hand touches his lips. "Earlier, when your texting someone. It was for Christian, right?" You nod. "Don't tell me you just broke up with him through text? Isn't it a bit cruel?"

"Then I won't tell you." You can't help but felt embarrassed because you know that he was right. It seems that alcohol is slowly leaving your body. "Aish! I'm going to bed."

You tried pulling you arm that he was holding but Gray pulled you even closer making you bump to his chest. You looked up to see his face.

"Not unless I said so." He said then lean down to kiss you. "Cause, tonight you are mine."

I'm interested in writing fic but it seems like everyone who writes on here, who I look up to, has some sort of formal writing training in the past and/or its part of their career. I'm worried that I'll make rookie mistakes that I see everyone here tear apart and no one will read any fic I manage to write. Any advice to overcome this insecurity? Or advice about resources for writing so I can learn about how to write properly? Thanks so much, I love ur writing so much

okay first off....anyone can write. and the “rookie mistakes” that people tear apart are choices that some people deliberately make. there will always be masterposts about some pet peeve that someone thinks is a legitimate writing tip and it’s...not. lolllll you won’t see me reblogging a lot of them just because i feel like SO MUCH of writing has to do with personal style. (unless it has to do with the use of orbs because that is my personal pet peeve like PLEASE DON’T USE THE WORD ORBS FOR EYES. i will still keep reading if i see it, but i just...it pulls me out entirely for a minute before i can bring myself to keep going lol) hell, a lot of my personal style in my fics was torn apart by my english professors in college and don’t even get me started on how much my history professors hated my writing (it was a LOT). so like...don’t care about that. throw all those misconceptions away. just cause someone doesn’t like the overuse of adjectives or adverbs or whatever doesn’t mean you can’t use them.

now to the real meat of this. as i said, anyone can write. i encourage everyone to write. there have been so many studies about how writing and journaling and all of that helps your memory and your brain and all sorts of incredible things, but it also has been proven to help with mental health. i’m a huge advocate of it. even if nothing gets published, writing is amazing.

assuming you do want it to get published though, here are a few tips i have.

1. build a community around you. find friends who are supportive and can be amazing cheerleaders and maybe help you brainstorm when you’re stuck, etc. i would never have finished my first fic much less continued writing if i hadn’t had such amazing people around me. cheerleaders, brainstorming peeps, and friends make all the difference.

2. you know who else makes a difference? betas and brit pickers. you know why? not only can they help you sift through your fic and figure out where you need to streamline, where you need to flesh it out more, and your grammatical errors, but they can also help preread and boost confidence. “hey, you need to fix these things, but this is amazing!” can be so uplifting and helpful, and betas and brit pickers can help you with that. they can also help boost that confidence that your fic is ready to go out into the world. i have several friends who are too scared to have anyone read or help edit their fics before they post them, but i get too scared when i DON’T have them. my first several fics i had at least three or four betas and then a brit pick on top of all of them because i figured the more eyes i had on the fics, the better quality they would be. i relied on that until i felt stronger and found a few betas who best suited my style (and were as nit picky as i want them to be hah). they do hard and heavy work and are amazing. i thoroughly support you getting them.

because you know what else they do? they help you avoid those “rookie mistakes” that you really do want to avoid. like orbs. (jk. kinda.)

3. keep trying. @briannamarguerite once told me writing is a muscle (and she probably regrets telling me this since i constantly tell other people this too hahaha) but it really is. you’re only going to strengthen that muscle by continuing to use it. the more you use it the more powerful it becomes. you learn so much and you grow and become better and stronger and more confident. the first several are SCARY. hell, even years later i still get scared to post my fics sometimes when it’s something new. but as time goes on, you really do grow in confidence and it feels amazing to see the growth in yourself as well.

4. we always need more fics, so don’t let the fear of mistakes hold you back. every voice gifts us something brand new and previously undiscovered, even if it feels like it’s just another university coffee shop fic or whatever you’re writing at the moment. i promise, it’s not the same as any other fic out there, and you’ll give your own special take on it, and we need it. we want it. we crave it.

5. have fun. we’re all disasters doing the best we can out here in this fucked up world and finding joy as we are able. if writing brings you joy, if you feel like creating a story from start to finish and sharing it with people gets you excited and makes you happy and productive, then DO IT. fuck the haters. you’re brave and strong and doing incredible things.

so there ya go. that’s my advice. haha

oh! i just reread the ask to make sure i didn’t miss anything, as for writing resources, honestly i’m not sure where to point you. i know some people who are incredibly serious about their writing and they read all sorts of books about it and follow blogs and stuff, but literally all i do is write stories i would like to read. i’ve been an avid reader since i was in first or second grade and never really stopped, so i kinda ignore any formal training people offer and do my own thing. that said, i’m assuming if you’re asking you actually want references and not just me telling you to free ball it hahaha SO i’m gonna tag some people i feel like will have knowledge and advice of such things, but if i haven’t tagged you, please feel free to still reblog and add your thoughts on the end as well as links to places for this sweet person to check out!

My stance on P5 (cause apparently I need to explain myself :/)

So someone just told me someone was vagueing about me on the confessions blog (can’t say my name cause it’s against the rules but they’ll try to get as specific as they can 🙃 if you have issues just be a real anon hater and send to my inbox directly you coward). And I’m not going to do a reblog to that post, because I’m pretty sure that person must be on my blog. Because the post they were vagueing me about was......not tagged.....in the P5 tagged (I did not tag it as P5 nor Persona 5), it was just a post that was on my blog (now if it showed up in the tag or search I dunno why but I didn’t tag it for P5 for a gd reason cause I keep it to my blog). The post was me pointing out how P5 when they first enter Futaba’s dungeon they didn’t have shoes on, but after the cutscene they DID. The post was more comical (with me getting salty in the tags, but then you’d have to go out of your way to read my tags). And tbh, I’m half and half, yeah I know it’s a nitpick, and I’d just chalk it up to an animation error and let it go usually, but it’s P5 and that game is already inconsistent with it’s plot/world building/characters/anything important that I’m like “nah I’mma rag on it cause it’s just one more thing they screwed up” so I’m like half let it go and half rag on it (fun fact, when I saw they didn’t have shoes on I was gonna make a post saying “hey look this is cool, nice attention to detail” and then they messed it up literally 2 seconds later so dklsjf;afa yeah). (oh and btw, it wasn’t just “one” character, it was the whole PT cast at the time 8U” at least get it right 8U)

But the thing is......that was just a post on my blog, I’m not me berating the P5 tag. So that means you, person who vagued me, tend to go on my PERSONAL BLOG. So like....why are you on here? No, don’t ask me about me and P5, I will answer that, but you answer why are you bothering looking at my personal blog? Is it cause of certain content I post? Then just blacklist certain tags (like my “silly plays” tag cause nothing really interesting happens in that tag, or my more negative “persona problems” type tags), I know I need to be better at tagging my asks, but if you like my original content then just.....go to the OG content tags (aka videos/pictures/edits/coloring)? That way you avoid anything not made by me? Or if you don’t have a reason and you’re just here to be mad cause someone doesn’t like your game, then block me. You don’t seem to like me, so just....why are you here? You seem to want to ask why I’m here with P5, and I have my reasons, but if you don’t have a reason to be on my blog then why are you on it?

I’m not saying this to be mean, but I don’t want to be policed, esp if someone is going to be hypocritical about it. And it’s annoying to see vaguing (cause imo you are as bad as someone who sends anon hate, but you don’t have the balls to just send it to me directly XP)

Ok now where’s my stance on P5? I don’t like it, but it’s a part of a larger series and lore which I do LOVE! Which means, considering I’m a LORE WHORE, it doesn’t feel right to just skip a game esp if it could contain info about the MegaTen/Persona lore (or even Character lore) I want to know. In fact, I really hate it when I’m talking lore with someone and if expanded info is brought up from a side game they are like “Oh I didn’t play that game so it’s not canon” No Bethany, just because YOU didn’t play a game doesn’t mean it’s not canon. And no, no one is bullying you over the fact you didn’t play it, you just don’t like being wrong and the person was like “Ok well it IS canon and it’s in the game, you don’t have to play it but you.....can’t ignore this fact, also why are you arguing this part of the lore when it’s heavily established in said game you ignored???? I mean you do you but don’t get mad when someone corrects you. No one’s forcing you to do anything.” Ahhhhrrrrgggh so many convos I’ve seen happen, I’m not going to be on the end that I hate. DX<

Also, P5 is not the entire Persona fandom, so while I put up with it and indulge in it by association, it doesn’t have the ownership of the fandom (like with all the original games+ spinoffs+all remakes/ports and P5S/P5R included, but not mobile games, it’s only 23% of all of Persona in terms of game entries, and that’s overlapping with crossover games, and if we included other stuff P5 is def a minor aspect in terms of entries). It’s not that hard, I’m just a bigger all around Persona fan than I am a Persona 5 critic (I don’t want to say hater, because it feels like it sounds like I’m hating it just to hate it, when really it was a game I was excited for and loved and then it just burned me bad and I’m just dealing with the scorn). Always keep in mind, I loved P5 before I hated it, it’s probably why I’m as salty about it as I am, because I love P5′s potential and....I was just let down (it wasn’t unrealistic expectations, like I said earlier, P5 contradicts itself.....all over the place, it’s hard to ignore and it’s not something that was as big of an issue, or even an issue at all, in other games).

Why do I still post P5 stuff when I don’t like P5 (by which I mean...posting about the OG manga raws, or wanting to do a partial game to anime dub or even would be willing to help with editing a fandub for the anime)? Because I remember being a newbie Persona/Megaten fan, getting into the series, and wanting to know more about it and it’s side materials but then not being able to have access it any of it (because it was still prettty niche when I first joined and I had no money at the time). I want to give people access to it! Sure it’s harder for me to now to devote time to it (than it was a few years ago), but I want to help with giving access to this Persona/Megaten stuff now that I have some ability! And it also means P5 as well gets some of that love. 8U

As for why I was replaying P5, so this is one thing that’s making me wonder if you are a regular on my blog or not because I’ve been talking about playing the Korean version (but in my one post I forgot to type “silly plays P5/Persona 5 KOREAN” so yeah I forgot to specify Korean at the end). So tbh....I’m actually ignoring P5′s writing while I play (cause I’m just going through the gameplay motions), cause I don’t know korean. 8U And I’m mostly using that tag as a means to point out different things in the korean ver (no that much, but yes Ryu’s shoes ARE censored 8U). But why? Well.....I talk about it here and there but anon/person....1) I’m a trophy whore, I love plat trophies and P5′s is super easy I can get it (and I’m not above playing bad games, oh yeah burn, I’ve played a lot of bad games for plats, and I’ve also played the same games multiple times for plats, I do this to myself but really I don’t mind replaying P5 4+ times for 4+ plats esp since I don’t really have to pay attention). 2) I’m a big MegaTen/Persona collector, I want all the plats I can have (I plan on platting the other versions of the all the dancing games on Vita and PS4, P4G, and the versions of Catherine I don’t have, like I legit have a gd excel sheet keeping track of the versions of Megaten games I don’t have yet....I’m just doing P5 cause it’s 1) one of the easiest to do and 2) it was easier to get my hands on them atm). I don’t talk about my trophy hunting on here that much tbh, but that’s.....really a big reason why I’m doing it (plus with the Korean/CHinese ver I don’t have to pay attention to any story so it’s all good! :D) Yeah I do it to myself, but I don’t really mind. 8U And I mean I tend to keep most of my P5 issue on my blog too. I think the only two posts that I put in the P5 tag were 1) a few consistency issues I wanted to meme about (aka the I’m about to head out post, which was actually the 2nd post I made on that topic but I decided to just meme that one, so I thought it was better than me just bitching, at least I tried to make it a bit funny yet informational 8U), and 2) something that I tbh had an issue since I back when I liked P5 (aka wishing they worked on speeding up the loading times and the fast forward feature), so since I was playing the game I was like “That reminds me, man I hope they fix this in the re-release!”. As for english P5, the only reason I’ll be playing P5 OG in english is for either archiving reasons or research reasons (probably both at once so I don’t have to play through it more than once again).

As for P5R, uhhhhh I’m excited for Kasumi (Jose is cool too, and the new dungeon has me interested too, and all the P2 demons coming back to it makes me wonder what else is/if anything is coming back), she’s my main draw. Yeah it’s connected to P5R, but she looks so much like Hamuko I JUST HAVE TO KNOW WHAT’S UP WITH HER! Hamuko’s my girl, and I need to know if Atlus is going to do something with that, or if I need to be pissed for them literally lifting Hamu’s face! Am I gonna get pissy about P5R’s new add-ons (aka, I’m aware that P5R is probably going to keep the issues from OG P5, so I’mma just judge P5R based on it’s new content)? Yeah, if they kept up the same writing P5 OG had. So yeah, I’m probably going to get pissy if they eff it up, but I’m not going in pissy, going in with really low expectations tbh, but I’m giving it a chance. But if they don’t eff up the new stuff then......that’s good! It means they did something right. So far Kasumi is not Marie so we’re off to a good start. I’m hoping the keep that momentum. 8U

So yeah, I think I have valid reasons for staying, maybe you don’t like it anon/person, but they are there.

tldr; someone feels like the need to police me despite the fact they could just ignore me (even tho it seems like they specifically came to my blog to get mad, rather than me clogging up the tag, like I post there maybe once or twice every 2 months). My stance on P5 is that I deal with it cause it’s part of a bigger fandom I’m a part of and the fact I love the lore of that bigger fandom so it’s not like I can ignore it. I also have a Playstation trophy problem. 8U And I’m excited for Kasumi is that so bad???? (also I didn’t mention it, but Anne/Haru are enough to keep me around 8U)

Do you have any tips for writing fanfiction?

Hey, Anon, thanks for the ask and sorry about the delayin replying. I’ve been writing fanfiction for so long that I’ve gotten into abit of a routine with it so I had to have a think about what I actually do. These tipsare based on my own writing practice, experience and approach to fanfic.But I would encourage you to keep asking this question, keep chatting withother authors (some might be kind enough to comment here) as you search for your ownunique writing style and practice. Everyone’s will be different and, as long asit works, I say stick with it. I’m assuming that you’re a new or aspiringauthor so I hope one, some or all of these tips prove useful.

1. Get In The Zone: Find the time of day when yourbest writing happens. For me (rather inconveniently when there’s work to bedone), this is first thing in the morning. For others, I’ve heard it’s themiddle of the day or late at night. But you will know this time when you find itbecause words and ideas will flow freely and easily, faster sometimes than yourfingers can keep up. Revel in this time, use it well then stop writing when theenergy runs out. Nothing good was ever produced by pushing past inspirationinto frustration or exhaustion. That said, inspiration can strike at any time – while watchingan ep or taking a walk or going about your work or trying to fall asleep. When itdoes – whether it’s an opening line, a plot point or snippet of dialogue – jotthose ideas down.

2. Watch (and Rewatch) Your Source Material: Thismay sound obvious (and not much of a chore for a fan) but watching whatevermovie/show/whatever you’re working from helps you to pick up the jargon of thatworld, to absorb the particular milieu, to know the people, places and canon(before you presumably diverge from it). The best fanfic gets both the bigpicture and the little details right. Without these firmly in place, you riskwriting a story that doesn’t ring true to the basic characters, tone orsituation you’re attempting to emulate. You want to extend a reality you love,not break it. So always be on the lookout for any little thing that mightfracture this reality and cause readers to fall out of a world they (you mustassume) know equally well. As a reader, there’s always a jolt when this happens, a dishearteningplummet. So know your stuff before you put pen to paper.

3. Get the Voices Right: Unlike character which canbe ambiguous, changeable and open to interpretation, every fan becomes attuned tothe particular voices of their favourite characters. When reading, you don’t need to work toknow when an author gets this right. You can just hear it. You can also (unfortunately)hear the tiniest slip in consistency and truth. I have written for somecharacters with very distinctive voices, voices I really didn’t think I couldemulate: both Ten and Donna in “Doctor Who”, Jack and Liz in “30 Rock” and,more recently, Gene Hunt in “Ashes to Ashes”. My particular trick for writingthese characters, for practicing their voices, was to write out the dialoguefirst then fill in everything else. Obviously this is only going to work forfics like this, this and this that rely heavily on banter. I love this kind offic. I love reading ‘em and I love writing ‘em. But even in fics which meldprose and dialogue, writing the dialogue out in isolation can help since theseaspects use slightly different writerly muscles.

4. Spellcheck is Your Friend: There will probablyalways be errors in your writing but do your best to avoid preventable andobvious mistakes. These can destroy your credibility as a narrator and takeyour reader out of your story. Personally, I am a compulsive editor. I wouldn’trecommend it. But I would recommend reading through your work at least once andrunning spellcheck before posting. Reading aloud can also help to identify anygrammatical errors or issues with flow. You can, if you find a friend willingto act as beta, outsource some of this work.

5.Don’t Be Afraid to Start Small: I’m a fan of theshort, self-contained fic. I’ve written lots of them and significant work must still go into making them work. So don’t aim to produce 25,000brilliant words right off the bat. Just 1-2,000 solid ones of which you can be proud.

6.Write What You Want: If you’re lucky, readerswill request fics of you (I have never been good at fulfilling these requests).If you’re unlucky, they’ll complain about directions you take or detail whythey refuse to read what you’ve written (this is pretty rare). But you can’t, Ibelieve, force inspiration. It’s either there or it’s not. For me, I beganwriting fanfic because there just wasn’t any for a pairing I shipped. So Iwrote it myself, for myself. I wrote what I liked and wanted to read (I stilldo). This is a medium in which fans have complete autonomy. They choose to go frompassive consumer to active creator. So just do what you do. Do whatever youwant. Turn back time. Bring people back from the dead. Unite lovers. Mergeworlds. Create characters. Make it sad, happy, dramatic or funny or both. You have the power. Claim it. Play with it. Revel init.

7. Start Strong and End Strong: You gotta have agood first line, in my theory of ff. That’s where it (literally) all begins. I always like to openwith something concise and intriguing that immediately communicates a little (butnot necessarily all) of what I’m planning to work with. Don’t be fooled intothinking you gotta start at the beginning. You don’t. You can enter the storyat any point. You can enter late – and leave early, as the saying goes. Thisis a screenwriting principle that ensures that only the most relevantinformation is included in a scene. It keeps the pace of a piece up, controlsthe dissemination of information and keeps audiences engaged. I think thisprinciple transfers rather easily to the page, especially since most of us areemulating material from the big or small screen. In order to imitate thesevisual mediums in written form, you might like to think of paragraphs, breaksand sentence structure as editing techniques that can guide the reader’s pace, growingperception and emotional experience.

8.Avoid Clichés: Clichés can occur at the level ofexpression, character or narrative. At the level of expression, these arewasted words that hold no meaning so find a fresh way to express what you mean.At the level of character, keep words, thoughts and actions rooted in thecharacter. “Show, Don’t Tell” is another well-known writing principle that can help maintain authenticity. As much as we may identify with certain characters, make judiciousdecisions about how much of yourself belongs in them. When writing intimaterelationships, less is often more. I know many shippers (myself included) spendyears sometimes LONGING for couples to express what they mean to each other,physically and/or verbally. By all means, let your beloved characters express –but not everything and not all at once, would be my advice. Allow them to maintainsome sense of mystery and sovereignty. At the level of narrative, clichés canactually work, especially if used with awareness. I had such fun writing a OneBed! fic for Jack and Liz, in which I paidtribute to some of the many reams of MSR fanfiction I had previously consumed.There were so many of these stories in that fandom that they became a categoryof their own, boasting a set of (increasingly ironic) conventions. Some fanfictraditions, it must be said, deserve to be embraced, extended and celebrated.

9. Read: Reading is the easiest way to absorbgrammar, to expose yourself to different writing styles and to become moreadept with language. So read books of all kinds. And read fanfic from your favefandoms. But read it actively, critically. Figure out what works and whatdoesn’t and why. Figure out what you enjoy, don’t and why. Apply theseinsights to your own writing and keep applying them. Keep improving. The more you read and write, the better you’ll get.

10. Avoid Comparisons: My best experiences of readingand writing fanfiction have been in strong, supportive communities. Generally,the more supportive the community has been, the more prolific I have been. These communitiesare wonderful spaces to inhabit, filled with peeps that love their shows,defend their ships and support their authors. Authors are always hungry forfeedback, and is it any wonder? Writing, creating and sharing takes work, love,thought and guts. You have to claim a little corner of a fandom and boldlystate that you have something to say that’s worth listening to. Sadly, you will probably never receive the same amount of energy back as you putin. This can lead to authors comparing their output and input, judging theirwork on its stats rather than on its merits. It can lead to them competing forthose few meagre reviews that roll in. This is partly why it is so important toreview fanfic, particularly fanfic you love and authors you read consistently.It’s part of encouraging and creating a sense of community in which people feeltheir voices are heard and their contributions valued. So be generous with others. Encourage and share. Read, review, reblog.Treat your fellow writers as your community, not your competition. Viewfanfic as a labor of love, an act of generosity that sometimes gives back. And if you don’t get the response you wishfor then make sure you hit that internal heart button and give yourself somekudos for trying, for creating, for loving something and letting it show.

Editing Tips for Beginning Editors

Congratulations! If you’re reading this, I’m willing to bet you already have a lot of the skills you need to be an editor. Even among full-time professionals, a lot of editing skill comes from reading a ton—you get an “eye” for when a sentence just doesn’t look right. The more you read professionally edited work, the better you get at it. (Fanfiction is incredible, obviously. But fanfiction has its own quirks, and the grammar and punctuation can vary, so I’m not confident recommending it as a way to brush up your instinctive grasp of when a sentence “looks right.”)

The specifics of what you do as an editor can vary a lot depending on what you’re editing and who you’re editing for, so in this post, I’ll be covering some of the basic principles that I think will be helpful no matter what type of editing you do. Broadly, I’ll be going over language-related tips and profession-related tips.

Language

I won’t be going over the nuts and bolts of grammar here, as a zillion good guides to it already exist online. Grammar Girl is my go-to free resource, and a lot of grammar and punctuation questions can be easily answered online or in a style guide from your library. I looked up the rules for commas a LOT in my first years of editing, and I still have to double-check them sometimes. A lot of the fiddly details differ between guides (how to write a.m. and p.m.; serial comma), but the nuts and bolts of grammar and punctuation stay the same across guides.

Professionally, those fiddly details are a big chunk of editing. Do you write out numbers less than 20? Less than 10? Do you capitalize titles like “President” all the time or only in certain situations? There’s no one right answer, which is one of the many reasons there’s no “right guide” to editing. A style guide will decide many of these questions for you. If you pick up editing as a profession, your employer will most likely have a style guide in mind. You may want to pick one for yourself if you do freelance editing. That way, you won’t have to re-decide on every job, and if you get repeat clients, you’ll be sure their text is consistent across all their documents. A “series bible” for fiction works on similar principles.

Whether you’re looking at those fiddly details or at the big picture, one principle of editing is to never take anything for granted. Someone says there’s five ancient orbs needed to defeat the dragon? You’d better count the orbs. Make sure every proper noun in the story (names of people, places, things) is spelled the same every single time. This is the kind of thing you’ll get quizzed on if you ever apply for a professional editing gig. Every editing job I’ve ever applied to has an “editing test” of at least a page, and it usually has at least one of those errors (if not both).

Another major thing to watch out for is colloquialisms, especially ones that mean multiple things. A short list of common errors I see:

“Since” should only relate to the passage of time; it does not mean “because.”

“While,” again, should only refer to time—two things happening simultaneously. “But,” “although,” “whereas,” and others are good substitutes for the other sense.

“Due to” does not mean “because of,” it means “caused by” (and I’ve seen some editors argue to not even use it for “caused by” and to only use it for when something is owed to someone).

“If” will often need to be replaced with “whether.”

Obviously with dialogue, that’s a whole nother story, but be careful about these in narration, even with a colloquial narrative. They can introduce unintentional double meanings.

When you’re moving from basic accuracy to style, you’ll often need to “tighten up” the language. This might be something you’re used to doing in your own writing. This doesn’t mean all prose should be sparse! But as an editor, part of your job is making sure that every word is contributing something, no matter whether the sentence is flowery or stark. One exercise is to go through and see if you can cut one word from every sentence. Depending on what type of editing you do, you’ll have different “filler words” to look out for. My personal demon is “just,” so I always do a search for that when I’m revising my own work. In my day job, the word “provide” often signals a clunky phrase that could be condensed into a single, better verb (e.g., “provides assistance” vs. “helps”).

You’ll look for a lot as you edit, so don’t feel like you have to do it all at once. A simple search can make sure you’ve caught issues like “while” and “since.” Other issues are best solved in their own read-through. For me, I try to do a read-through specifically for passive voice. I often skip over passive voice on my all-purpose read because, well, the sentence makes sense, doesn’t it? So my eye simply doesn’t catch it if I’m not on the lookout. As you edit, you’ll figure out what process works best for you.

And to wrap up the language section—checklists are your friend! I used to have a post-it of all the things I knew I struggled with, and I’d systematically search the document for those trip-ups after I did my first read. You can customize your own checklist with whatever snags give you trouble.

Professionalism

A huge part of editing as a professional is in how you interact with other people. Your whole job is telling people they’re wrong, after all, and you often have no control over whether they’ll listen to you. Everything you can do to make the criticism easier for them helps!

My favorite “one weird trick” that my first boss taught me is to turn every criticism into a question. If you’re suggesting a significant revision, “How about…?” is one of my favorite leads. If you have no idea what’s going on, do your best to figure out what might be causing the issue, then form a question around that. “Are there missing words here?” is kinder and more useful than “Huh?”

Essentially, your role as an editor is to advocate for the reader. This “reader stand-in” role can help frame critique as well. Will the reader understand this? If you’re in one of the more-technical editing jobs, that question may be completely necessary. As an editor for scientific research, I’m often editing documents meant for people who know way more about the subject matter than I do. The framing of “the reader” is also a useful tool in your toolbox for fiction. You may be editing something that you are not the target audience for. Or, on the other end of the scale, you may know without question that you’re reading something incomprehensible. The polite device of “the reader” helps add a level of depersonalization to the critique.

Unsurprisingly, for editing, communication is key before you even start work. “Editing” covers a huge range of possibilities. Make sure you and the author are on the same page. Do they want a proofread—only correcting glaring errors? Do they want you to improve the phrasing of sentences? It can go all the way up to practically rewriting the thing, if you’re working at a corporation and the authors aren’t professionals. This conversation beforehand will let you know whether you should make “artistic” suggestions as you read, whether you need to stick with nuts and bolts, or something in between.

If the author says they only need a proofread and you discover the whole thing is terrible, that’s when some tactful emails come into play. Never start doing a higher-level edit unless you’ve talked about it with the author first. You have much better odds of an affirmative if they feel like they’re collaborating with you–that you’re both in it together to make the best document possible. As far as the tactful emails go, be kind and be specific. If you have examples of what you’d like to correct, throw those in. It helps the author know what to expect and make an informed decision.

And sometimes the author says no, and that’s okay! You must wash your hands of it. It’s not your name on the thing, and if you don’t put it in your resume, it never will be (fresh out of college, I worked on a couple truly awful novels that nobody will ever know I worked on). Perfectionism is HARD to overcome, I know, but accepting the errors gets easier with practice.

And finally, if you’re still wondering, “Am I cut out to be an editor?” I would recommend the words of Neil Gaiman. In his excellent “Make Good Art” speech, he says that as a freelance artist, you need to do good work, do it on time, and be pleasant to work with. And then, he adds, “You don’t even need all three! Two out of three is fine.”I recommend the whole thing if you ever want to battle imposter syndrome, because the same tenets apply to editing. At least I think they do. You don’t need to be the perfect editor—nobody is. But I guarantee that you have most of what you need already, and I hope this has helped.

Formatting Tweaks to Help Your Typesetter Have a Great Day

The last few weeks, I’ve been doing a lot of editing, which also means I’ve been doing a lot of small changes to ensure that the documents are print and e-book ready. Preparing manuscripts involves doing a lot of tiny, fiddly tweaks to make sure that spelling, grammar, and formatting are uniform across all the stories in an anthology, are accurate to the authors’ intentions, and look nice in all the formats we’ll be offering (print, PDF, ePub, and Mobi). None of the changes are complicated, but making them all is surprisingly time consuming—I usually spend about 30 minutes “cleaning up” each story with modifications that are largely invisible to a writer and reader, but still essential to produce a polished finished book.

Each Press and Publisher will handle these formatting things in slightly different ways—while some of these (such as “when do I use a hyphen vs. an en dash vs. an em dash?”) others are publisher-discretion. If you are submitting a manuscript and want to look like you’ve really, really paid attention, consider making some of these changes yourself—but make sure you check if the place you’re submitting to has a public style guide first, and if they do, anything they say in their style guide takes precedence! (Duck Prints Press doesn’t have a guide yet—we’ve been working on one, but it keeps getting back-burnered in favor completing more timely tasks).

This post is written from our point of view—which is to say, I wrote it specifically for how we at DPP handle these formatting matters—but it can provide some general guidelines, especially if you are submitting to a publication that hasn’t provided a style guide. Even if what you do based on this guide doesn’t match what they do, at least by being consistent in your own submission, you demonstrate that you were paying attention! (But: NEVER do any of the below if it contradicts the submission information and/or style guide provided by a different publisher!!)

Note that to really do most of these tweaks, you’ll want to use an actual word processor. Google docs doesn’t have the functionality for the most fiddly bits. Despite its downsides, DPP currently uses Microsoft Office 365, and this guide is primarily written with Word in mind. If you also use Microsoft, here’s a couple quick tutorials—you’ll need to know how to do these two things in order to do…all the rest.

Tutorial 1: Inserting Special Characters

1. Go to the “Insert” Menu

2. Go to “Insert Symbol”

3. If, like me, you use the same 4 special characters over and over, the symbol you’re looking for will most likely be in the “recently used” list that pops up. But, if it’s not there, pick “More Symbols.” That opens a screen that looks like this:

While you could scroll through this list until you find what you want, it’s much easier to go to the bottom boxes I circled in red, where it says “Character Code.” Enter the 4-digit-and-letter code for the character you want. This way, you can be sure you actually get the character you want. Make sure that the “from” field matches the code type you’re using—I pretty much entirely use unicode, and that’s what I reference/include numbers for in this post. (Usually, googling “(name of the character you want) unicode” will get you the number.)

5. Note that not every character is available in every font; if you want to be sure you can access the maximum number of characters, I recommend using Arial or Calibri.

Tutorial 2: Turning on Mark-up

1. Go to the “Home” menu

2. In the “Paragraph” section, find the ¶ option; if your menu is drop-down it might be called “Show/Hide ¶” (in Word, it can also be turned on with ctrl + * )

May Trope Mayhem is a multi-fandom/original creation event open to writers, artists, and content creators of all kinds! We’ve put together a list of 31 of our favorite tropes, one per day through the month of May, and we encourage creators to join us for this month of fun tropey mayhem.

Our goal is to promote motivation and help with habit building, so we’re encouraging people to keep their ficlets under 1,000 words, or if you make art or a gif or some such, to stick to a sketch or a single image.

Now Live: Duck Prints Press's Third Crowd-funding Campaign!

Duck Prints Press LLC is over the moon to share our next to anthologies with you: She Wears the Midnight Crown and He Bears the Cape of Stars!

These two anthologies share a common theme – masquerades – and each features different kinds of relationships. She Wears the Midnight Crown contains 18 wlw stories; He Bears the Cape of Stars contains 18 mlm stories. Both collections tell myriad stories exploring how these characters’ relationships develop, grow, and change while they attend or participate in masquerades!

Our 36 contributors have stretched their imaginations to present innovative stories exploring what a masquerade can be…and, of course, tell rich, engaging tales of wonderful queer folk finding love, companionship, acceptance, the queer platonic relationship of their dreams, or the found family they deserve. The collected works feature characters in all the colors of the Pride rainbow, queer and genderqueer, and these diverse individuals inhabit worlds ranging from science fiction settings where everyone must be masked to breathe, to fantasies where no one wears a literal mask but everyone shows the world a false guise, to iterations of the real world where some people lean into deception.

Duck Prints Press LLC is delighted to announce that the Kickstarter for our second anthology, And Seek (Not) to Alter Me, has commenced!

In And Seek (Not) to Alter Me, 16 authors and 16 artists have come together to create an exquisite, full-color collection of artwork and stories inspired by William Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing. We encouraged contributors to stretch their imaginations, think outside the box, and put their own unique—and queer—twist on Benedick, Beatrice, Hero, Claudio, Don Pedro, and the whole gang! In true Shakespearean fashion, our creators utilize gender, sexuality, romanticism, and a host of costume changes to tell unique stories—some featuring original characters, some characters from the play—that show Shakespeare’s work in a whole new light.

So—grab a cup of tea and reread or rewatch your favorite version of Much Ado About Nothing to refresh your memory. Our stories and artworks feature wlw, mlm, poly relationships, trans characters, gender swaps, canon divergent tales, AUs...there's even a two-page comic! Settle in with this delightful collection and enjoy visiting Messina (and elsewhere!) and falling in love with Leonato's family and the troops of Don Pedro's army (and many others!) again and again and again!

And Seek (Not) to Alter Me is a stunning zine, printed in full color, A4 size (8 1/4 inches x 11 3/4 inches/21 cm x 30 cm), approximately 150 pages long. It includes 16 stories, each up to 5,000 words long, and 20 full-page interior artworks. Creators share their visions with us, discuss their inspiration, and take us along on a journey to experience what this play and these characters mean to them.
