a/n: i literally wrote this like an hour ago while i was supposed to be outlining my next project, but @hellishjoel told me to listen to my creative demons... so now this is being posted.
(1.1k, just a baby)
Nothing in this world has ever, or will ever, belong to you. Faint memories glaze your mind sometimes, when you lay down to rest. Not your own memories, but things you’ve read in books and seen in abandoned family photo albums. White wedding dresses, cars that drive, Sunday night family dinner. An American lifestyle that was sucked away with the cordyceps, something only they could clear out. The bombs the government used, the ones you can’t remember anymore, they never wiped mother earth clean the way she has done for herself.
She’s infected, and not yours. Nothing outside of Jackson’s walls belongs to your human hands.
You’ve never known ownership. The clothes you wear belonged to people before you, the ground you walk on cannot be sold. Maybe in another life this would feel fulfilling, but something in you wants to know what it is to own, or even fit in. Your skin, flushed and healthy, skin full of life and blood and organs. A heart that thumps in a world of disease, disorder, death. What a weird purity you hold, something you want to ruin.
A person like you isn’t meant to own anything here. It feels like you have to belong, if you wish to take.
He will do it for you.
Joel knows greed, remembers the world before. His hands have taken food, land, lives, anything you can imagine. It isn’t something you realistically think about, more infatuated with how he has the ability to do all these things. Not that you hadn’t committed your own sins, but to defend yourself isn’t wrong, at least that’s what he says. Something in Joel smolders the way only a primal fire can, he is from a world whose memory of a flame will extinguish soon.
He doesn’t help with any of your wants, your need to own or belong. But Joel shows you what it is to take.
You don’t understand the fascination he has with you. The memory of the night he first led you back to his house is blurry, a fleeting moment in comparison to what has happened since. There was conversation of music, of you having a tape you wish you could play.
His hands were slow when they slid your underwear down your legs, you hoped he wasn’t looking. Nothing about you felt sexy or womanly, you felt dwarfed when he was so close. Again, you wished you could belong, so maybe you could hide. There was a stain in the gusset and you remember how he pulled the garment off your ankles when it dangled there.
“Lemme see,” he had demanded, “lemme see what I did t’you.”
Joel had smeared his thumb through the sticky wet mark, huffing in surprise. He knew it was for him, knew there was nothing else that could have made you do that. Humiliated, you had tried to yank back your underwear, but he refused.
“S’mine now,” he laughed, cheeks rosy.
That was the first time Joel took from you.
Now you seek him, the ache for belonging in the world twisting to a yearning for him to take from you. If you could not belong to this world, if you could not fit, at least you could fulfill him. Joel doesn’t like it when you seek him out too often, hates when others notice it. You’re not his, never his, just a moment of gratification for his consuming greed.
Once, you waited in the early morning at the stables for him. Crouched near the barn door, you waited and watched the dewy grass grow. The crunch of his boots, the yawn he let out as he passed by you, it was enough. He said nothing to you, took off on his horse with some other man trailing behind him.
“Joel’s so responsible,” you thought to yourself, “he’ll need me later I bet.”
Of course, he did. You relished in the small victory of him stealing from you again. Purity leaks from you in the form of drool on your chin, when he pulls you off his cock. Joel’s thumbs push the spit back in your mouth and you suck it down willingly. Praise rumbles off his tongue and into your ears, a southern rhythm you find sanctuary in. Pushing his dick back into your mouth is all pleasure to him, but it’s a taste of greed for you.
“Sweet girl, that’s a good mouth f’me, ain’t it?” Joel asks, head tilting back.
He never takes his pants off, but he strips you naked. His eyes arguably take more than his hands ever will. The bob of his Adam's apple hypnotizes your eyes as you garble a response to his question. Scarcely do you make sense around Joel, or even speak. You don’t think you can remember the last time you held a proper conversation with him, he usually just waits for you to come around.
It all starts the same, standing on his porch and waiting until he opens the door.
“Missin’ me?” He asks every time.
Joel doesn’t miss you, he doesn’t need you. He just likes how much you give. But you miss him, as soon as he pushes you out into the cold again you miss him. His greed is your purpose.
And so with your purpose, you push yourself down to the base of him. The waterline of your eyes is welling up fast, distorting your vision of him. You blink up at him like he’ll look down, like you’re more than a mouth. You aren’t, not to him, but you get to admire him like this. The puff of his chest, the swell of his throat, and his hands when they come to rip you off him.
He never pulls your hair, just grasps your face in his worn-down palms and pushes you away before jerking himself onto your naked body.
“S’nice, you’re so nice t’me,” he grumbles.
Under the yellow light in Joel’s living room, you feel useful. You’re doing more than surviving in this world. You have a purpose, even if he seldom needs you. He uses the sleeves of his flannel to wipe away the tears that slide down your cheeks, still mumbling about how sweet you are. Naked, smattered in him, you smile. Glittery eyes meet his and he snorts.
“You were missin’ me, huh?” He teases.
Joel rubs his thumb across your cheek again, the closest thing you’ll get to his lips on you. In his post-orgasmic haze, he almost looks fond.
“He almost likes me,” your mind whispers, your stomach fluttering, “it’s almost like I belong.”
And once you’ve nodded in response to his question, messy mouthed and gazing at him, your purpose, he taps his thigh. Blood rushes to your head as you stand, crawling onto him.
In your obedient mind, you define your efforts for Joel as a purpose, but you think you can taste a hint of belonging each time he spreads your legs.

listened to sabrina carpenter’s album and suddenly can’t stop thinking about please please please being perfect for hollywood au gale’s pov when they’re just started dating 🥲 <— you CANNOT convince me that bucky wouldn’t LOVE short n sweet i was listening to slim pickins (her album is TOP TIER GOOD) and i had a thought… imagine gale having like a slight cowboy drawl that kinda comes out every once in a while and drives bucky up the wall INSANE also i can totally picture them having karaoke nights with the other boys and bucky just full on serenading gale with every romantic/horny song to ever exist on earth and gale just sitting there kinda blushing, half smiling and looking pretty (basically the whole scene with john singing blue skies but in a modern context)
THIS WAS SO INSPIRING THANK YOU
oh YES to buck having a slight accent, he learned to speak out of it the moment he left his parent’s house but sometimes when he’s tired or on edge bucky will hear his accent start coming up and he’s OBSESSED, he finds it adorable and also sexy af, like a mixture of imagining little gale loving his time at the stalls and them being a safe space for him but also imaging his city-boy’ed gale in his natural cowboy habitat is doing things to him whenever he hears it 🥰
I LOVE SABRINA’S ALBUM like imagine… bucky’s hand on buck’s hair or thigh and singing along to espresso from the top of his lungs as they drive a convertable with the roof down in riviera…. i imagine gale with the same kind of sunglasses and scarf as sabrina in the mv too, it was to block his face from the paparazzi but now it’s covering a big smile as he looks at his husband being silly and affectionate and perfect… ALSO ALSO bucky taking gale’s face to his palm like in ep 2 as they wait for the key in the hotel and gale just looks at him with that small fond smile‼️
bucky will take each and every chance to serenade gale, you’re so right, gale has learned to expect that no matter how much or little time they spend together at an event at some point he will hear his husband’s voice singing some pop queen’s discography and pointing at him, this is one of the things bucky needed to go public for because esp when tipsy he just wants to announce to the world how much he loves his partner and no matter how much their friends tease them gale secretly loves it too, even if he’s not always one to initiate public displays of affection or desire he’ll often take john to the side after his peformance and whisper some pretend innocent things about probably wanting to go home soon 🥰
also idk why but this inspired me and i’ll just go for it: bucky absolutely does not want a stripper for his bachelor party so he gets real upset when he’s shoved into a room with dim lights during the night but right when he’s about to leave it turns out it’s gale… just a lapdance to some sultry pop (they def do more than that but they’ll deny it to their grave despite endless teasing) and he’s also gonna do it again on the honeymoon after bucky begs and begs him to 🥰
#I NEED TO WRITE THIS#there’s another great ask waiting but i’m half-asleep i’ll get tonit tomorrow!!#thank you for inspiration once again <3#hollywood au#clegan#mota#buck#bucky#buck x bucky

What was it that surprised you about Muse?
I thought Jimin was clearly saying Muse was about his passion for his art. I think it again had a lot to do with performing and not doing a lot of live performances and meeting Army, he more or less says this to Namjoon, and in his letter which is on display at the exhibition. I don’t think it’s as personal he says that too Joon as well. The exhibit intro also focuses on how it was about Jimin finding his artistic vision. He said to Joon that Who was a vehicle to stop and say, wait that’s not what I was feeling, but he was talking about his art. When he said about talking to his friends and they all felt similarly flat, that doesn’t mean in love necessarily, he said it was about passion or life, and as someone who has depression that happens. He also spoke about not always liking his work all of the time. That’s what the album is about to me. In my mind he started writing in 2022, he said he spoke to the members in vegas and they told him to write his feelings, that became Face. The songs he was working on with outside producers is Muse, so essentially it became a second album. All finished in June 2023. Face needed to come first and if you listen start to finish you can hear the story he is telling. As you said Letter being a hidden track is telling, that is a very personal song. Almost too personal.
Muse then starts with Rebirth which is a beautiful song, and almost a literal rebirth from Face, I’d say it’s the only autobiographical song on the album. This is why it leads. With the interlude after it, to structurally separate it from the rest. The circus theme from face continued here, he’s putting on a show, the Smereldo garden marching band , which they tell Loco is a vehicle to help people tell their hidden truths. Loco who Jimin said they picked bc he just got married so could convey the feeling needed. SGMB and the truth untold, a focus of the album, his exhibition being named the same thing. What truth is Jimin actually trying to tell us? What does he say he wants us to misunderstand? To me the only logical explanation is the opposite of what Who is about, if that’s about finding love, maybe Jimin has already found it. The billboard being probably key in this.
However to me, because Jimin said Muse isn’t personally linked, it really is just a good, fun album for Army. Face is deep and personal, Muse is light and relatable. Again in his letter Jimin says he wants to make music for Army. That’s Muse. I think face needed to happen for him, and he didn’t probably expect its success, something he also said in his letter.
Previous anon says about him being in the studio when talking with the producer but it’s not like he’s going to tell a room full of strangers about his personal life. He said it was like they read his diary but that can mean many things, including just being put on the spot having to explain something. He found a song that gave a very universal feeling, which he also says, everyone is alone..well that is a strong statement but not what he meant imo, because not everyone is physically alone, but actually as humans we are alone in the world, we live our own experience, but we seek connection with others. Love is a universal language. When the producers said Jimin couldn’t relate to the feelings of some of the songs, to me again he has no right to divulge any personal information about Jimin, especially not in his absence.
I know full well he cannot declare a love outright, if he said he knows love or has done could you imagine what would happen? but he did say rebirth is about having a crush on someone he fell in love with. This is what I mean about it being the only autobiographical song, one he knows the experience of but couldn’t openly say. One that continues the promise from Letter. The one ft a certain someone.
Oh I was simply surprised because Muse was so different from Face that it took me a bit off-guard at first lol
I agree with your train of thoughts anon. I arrived pretty much to the same conclusions.
Thanks for sharing your view 💜

My Favorite Albums of 2024*
*not necessarily from 2024
I'm back at it once again, sharing my Top 10 CDs, in alphabetical order by title, from the 151 I've acquired over the past year. They may not be from 2024. Hell, they may not even be from this century. But I didn't physically own them until this year. That's the only rule. And boy do I love making up absolutely meaningless rules. Let's get into it!

Say Anything - All My Friends Are Enemies: Early Rarities
Say Anything released one of the most unhinged, passionate, and self-indulgent albums I picked up this year and it may have made it on this list if it wasn’t for splurging on a 3-disc (!!!) compilation of all of their pre-Is A Real Boy material showcasing just how great of a songwriter Bemis can be. Plus, his commentary all over the liner notes is *chef’s kiss*.
Charlie XCX - Brat
I spent a decent amount of time declaring how this was “not for me” (I’m in my late 30s, I don’t go to clubs, I’ve never done coke, etc…) but it just didn’t let up. The overarching concept of accepting one’s full self, flaws and all, is universal and these songs have a depth that blossoms on repeat listens. There’s a reason this is on all the "best of" lists.

Cursive - Devourer
It’s been a year of “return to form albums” and none has been as exciting or as potent as Cursive’s 10th. The cello is back. The horns are back. It’s as loud, brash, and pessimistic as ever but Kasher also reminds everyone that he can also write one hell of a hook. Also, while “MUSTARDDDDDDDDDD” takes the cake for greatest yelled lyric of the year, Tim spewing “MOTHER FUCKER” on “The Age of Impotence,” is a close second.

Eels - EELS TIME!
I had given up on E’s lyrical prowess a good decade ago but maybe that was premature. While this album has a smattering of the lazy, cringeworthy rhymes gracing most things post “Blinking Lights,” it also is home to a myriad thoughtful and earnest ponderings on the temporal nature of life and how we choose to spend our finite amount of time. Oh, and an incredible verse about going on a date with someone who likes furries. EELS ARE FUCKING BACK, BABY.

Hello Mary - Emita Ox
I wanted to like Hello Mary’s self-titled album a lot more than I did. The Brooklyn 3 piece possessed a delicate fury and 90s post-grunge aesthetic that warmed my heart but the album never really stuck. That’s not the case with Emita Ox: it’s heavier and more mathy but it balances those elements with lush harmonies and superb melodies. This sounds like a band finding themselves and I cannot wait to see what they discover next.

Devon Kay & The Solutions - Grieving Expectation
Every year I go on a Pure Noise Records shopping spree (it helps that their cds are frequently quite cheap and BOGO) which allows me to discover a ton of music I otherwise wouldn’t have heard and every now and then, I find a gem. This is one of those gems. Blurring the lines between ska, punk, emo, and good ol’ fashioned “Alt-Rock,” this album hits like Jeff Rosenstock by way of “Bring Your Own Stereo” era Jimmie's Chicken Shack. It’s got great choruses, a killer horn section, and I found myself frequently reaching the end and starting it right back over again. Easily my favorite discovery of the year.

MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks
This is popping up in one of the top 3 slots on many of the End of Year lists I’ve checked out and for good reason. It’s instantly approachable with humorous and poignant lyrics that unearth themselves more and more on repeat listens. Also, to stand out in the crowded “Americana” field these days is a feat in itself. Bravo.

Macseal - Permanent Repeat
I saw this four-piece open for The Wonder Years a couple years ago and was immediately intrigued by how their melodies and chord progressions consistently shifted away from where I expected but not at the expense of the song itself. In yet another crowded field, this time emo-tinged Americana (“Emoacana?”), they definitely made a mark. A couple years later, they’ve replaced some of the twists and turns with a deeper ability to craft great, memorable songs, and, holy shit, is it effective. It’s pretty ballsy to name your album “Permanent Repeat” but that’s basically what this disc has been doing ever since it showed up in my mailbox. This is, hands down, my album of the year.

Martha - Please Don’t Take Me Back
Positively pleasing, practically perfect, politically-charged, pop-punk from across the pond. Head-bopped to this one many times this past year. No skips.

The Pharmaceutical Bandits - Those Damn Bandits
This isn’t a “good” album per se (it’s the debut album from a late 90s teenage ska-punk band so expectations probably shouldn't be that high in the first place) but it was one of the only Drive-Thru Records CD I didn’t own, so of course it had to be on this list.
To their credit, after this album, they altered their name to Rx Bandits and put out a ton of great ska-punk tracks. And then they went prog-rock and put out some great tracks in that style as well. It’s a strange journey but well worth it.
Other albums I liked from 2024 but haven't yet physically acquired.
Doechii - Alligator Bites Never Heal (Only Vinyl pre-release at the moment. Hoping for a CD as well.)
Tyler, The Creator - Chromakopia (Ordered it back in November. Possibly still stuck in transit?)
Kendrick Lamar - GNX (pre-ordered the CD from Amoeba. Feels right to get that from a Cali based store)

WTHHHHTM? episode 6, another boring one
Yes, it's another hospital visit recap, and another boring one. I do apologise for not having more serious issues so I could write elaborate descriptions peppered with gifs... As of right now, think of me as a house on perpetual fire, while firefighters simply try to guess which angle to put it out from.
Usual warning about medical stuff applies.
Chapter 24: Refuelling
So, pretty much the only vaguely interesting stuff is that my weakness was caused by lack of.... blood. Not complete, mind you, but I did look as if I had a close encounter with coven of vampires. So after five or so blood drips, I was back to full strength.
Chapter 25: Utter bollocks #2
Well, since I have nothing more interesting to report, it is time for some lies!
Tuesday: Since I am visiting hospitals so often, I was greeted with a 'welcome back' party! There was no cake, just extra slice of ham for supper.
Wednesday: I had really bad case of cold, was feeling freezing all the time, but when I asked for an extra blanket, I was brought a Vulpix to warm me up! Couldn't keep it, sadly, but it worked miraculously
Thursday: We were woken up by some loud ambulance siren. Technically nothing odd, but one was especially loud - and it turned out one of the ambulances went into labour! By morning, she had given birth to three beautiful new ones and one small fire truck. The only problem was, now they were testing their sirens, but, well, what can you do.
Friday: One of my passwords were stolen. Admittedly, ilovewendip69 was easy to guess, but the bigger problem was I stored it it in my night table.
Saturday: So I usually ask one of my social workers helping me to buy me apples - perfect hospital snack. But this time, one of the apples turned out to be golden! The weird part was that three nurses which I haven't seen before, seemed intensely interested in it. But they turned apoplectic when they saw I just ate it! Strange.
Sunday: So I was getting lots of drips daily. But today, for the first time, saw this:

BUT! But, but, but... anyone who knows a thing of two about speedrunning know there is a way to circumvent this by drinking 4 from inventory and 4 from hotkey. NO, I DON'T HAVE A SKOOMA PROBLEM, YOU HAVE
Monday: After complaining so much about food, I was given chance to prepare dinner for the whole ward myself. The good news was that everyone loved my salmon with lemon sauce. Bad news is that the budget was drained and we will be given only water and bread for two months.
Tuesday: A small wormhole opened outside the window of our room. Nothing came in or out.
Wednesday: I ran out of music to listen to. Fortunately, Mozart has dropped a new album, so I was able to-
Wait, that actually has happened?
Are you cocking kidding me? I had that joke prepared and it actually came true?!
Is this how Trelawney felt?!
No, wait, she was drunk most of the time....
No, you know what, I quit, I cannot compete with nonsense when said nonsense happens IRL.
And that was it! Got tons of meds again, and knowing my luck, I will land in bed in a month or so. See ya!

The Big Day
It was foretold that I would eventually play my original music in front of people. That I would make a difference and manage to help as many other artists along the way as possible. That one day I could make a living doing something I loved to do, and that together we would ascend to the skies and commit arson to spite those who bought their way into heaven.
Now in the early morning darkness I ponder how we got here. From 14 to 19, 5 years. Over 2000 youtube uploads. Hundreds of hours writing, preforming, practising, learning learning learning... 3 albums of original music. Lots of waiting and planning.
Now here I am at what appears to be the beginning of the next chapter, and I cannot thank you enough.
For anyone who is coming (and also for posterity since I don't know how much of this I'll be able to record) the setlist is as follows:
Alex G - Soaker Were You Dropped on the Head Paper Skies Alex G - Nintendo 64 Dogs The Book was Better The Front Bottoms - Twin Sized Mattress
It'll be about 27 minutes long. Every other band playing is amazing. And my heart is full. I'm incredibly hopeful, which was not really the case only half a year ago. So again, thank you.
There is a little demon that sits on my shoulder and wakes me up each night with crazy ideas. It was fortold that I could do the things I tried to do if I went after them against all odds. Despite the many people who told me it was not possible... In fact, maybe to spite those people I have pushed onwards all this time. And we're only just getting started.
But I can't tell you how incredible it is to be able to put time and immense effort into something and then see it pay off. I've spent a lot of time working towards something that always seemed entirely out of range or reach, like building a tower to the sky. Nimrod can suck it:)

LOOK AT THESE!! I cannot believe it. We have CDs of the shitty albums I made. I'm going to lose my mind.
I'm going to be trying something new at the show for the song The Book was Better. It'll either be really cool or incredibly lame, but no matter what it will be invaluable to learn from.
I'm a bit nervous as I'm just... Me. Every other act is a seasoned full band, and I'm incredibly excited to see them preform tonight. But I will do my best with naught but an acoustic guitar and a hope.
There is not much else left to say. Just wanted to get it down on digital paper, thanks for reading!! It was fortold that I could make "it". Whatever the strange "it" might be. I used to think if one person listen to my music and found something useful in it the way I found catharsis writing it, my life would be fulfilled. I think I was right.
But who is this prophet? Who is the one that fortold all this insane nonsense? It was I you fool. And my point in saying this is, stop waiting for a guide to lead you by the hand to a world you want. Become your own sacrifice. You can make "it". We all will make it. See you tonight (and if not, see you in the next video!!).
Also, tiny desk contest entry just got accepted:) (another thing I'd greatly encourage any and all artists who make music to submit to every year)

SCARING THE HOES - JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown

Mom, come pick me up I’m scared :(
Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA have been discussing a collaborative project in the works for a while now. Now that an album has finally been released and is available on streaming services, and I have listened to both the album and the rapturous praise it has garnered from some critics as of writing, I am left with very mixed feelings on the project we actually got.
I think I should start with the concept of a collaborative debut from these two particular rappers.
Was this a misguided attempt? JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown have largely disparate styles, and while many of the beats on this tape are stellar the chemistry between the two rappers is so lackluster it pulls away from my enjoyment of the record significantly.
On the topic of the mix, rarely do I listen to an album where the leveling between tracks is so consistently inconsistent. Song for song the vocals are leveled somewhere from way too low to just barely audible, only on occasion being mixed high enough to make out what’s being said.
The times where the vocals are mixed better still frustrates me in the context of the record. Why couldn’t every song be mixed properly? The fact that I had to listen to the album multiple times and then read through genius to decipher 90% of the lyrics makes me wonder how anyone can argue this is a good mix for a collaborative rap album, how anyone who cares about rap can defend a mix where most of the vocals are mixed as loud as the quietest impulses in the percussion. Or lower!
I could keep harping on the horrible mix to no end, but I would have to stop myself for the sake of time. I’ll just conclude this point that the mix hides what should have been a string of bombastic and fun performances by Danny and JPEG alike.
The opener Lean Beef Patty needs seasoning. I was considering putting out a track review when this was released as the first single of the project, but I wanted to wait until I heard it in the full context of the album. Overall, JPEGMAFIA relies again on very “edgy” yet not the slightest bit controversial humor, lines like “fuck yall **** I feel like Papa John” should have been left on the cutting room floor even when they were still relevant. Danny’s verse, while better, seems like a nonsequitur about drug and alcohol abuse when compared to JPEGMAFIA’s more vaguely political verse before.
Steppa Pig picks up the pace with a beat that is more interesting and with better performances from both JPEG and Danny. The title track after may be the album’s opus, a song that is a funny commentary on making weird, commercially unappealing music with layered sax squeals and clapping before the percussion drops in. Stylistically I think the album shines when the weird elements in the production are more sparse and spread far in between so the vocals get some elbowroom, which happens to be exemplified well here.
Other songs like Garbage Pale Kids and Where Ya Get Ya Coke From? have phenomenal beats behind them but the clashing with the vocals in the mix cannot be overstated.
I usually don’t like to pull other critics into the conversation, but I’ve now watched Crash Thompson and Brad Taste in Music (reviewers who I like and respect) give this album very high scores while endlessly criticizing various aspects of the songs or the skill level between the two rappers. I wonder if this is a case of the Emperor’s new clothes, where no one wants to be the first to criticize one of music’s biggest tastemaker’s holy cows.
The best defense of the album I heard was Shawn Cee’s description of the beats as making you want to eat your vegetables, which describes the production well but not the final product. If the lyrics, vocal mixing or chemistry between JPEGMAFIA and Danny does not factor into the equation, this should’ve been released as a beat tape. I think then it would’ve turned out less artistically and conceptually scattered.
Highlights: SCARING THE HOES, Garbage Pale Kids, HOE (Heaven on Earth)

Album Review - Mentors by Fish in a Birdcage

On December 20, 2024, Fish in a Birdcage released an album called Mentors. This album had many clear folk influences but combined some more electronic sounds than most straightforward folk projects. The research I attempted to do for this review only seemed to show Dusty Townsend as being behind the project.
One of the many things that I really appreciated about this project was the clear understanding of balance. Each song reflected an understanding of when and how to highlight the voice over the instruments and vice versa. This is reflected well in the song "Rule #41 - C'est La Vie", which not only reflected a balance between the vocals and instruments but also a balance of the two vocalists to create this gorgeous duet that is still buzzing in my head as I write this review.
This project also involved a lot of string instruments being used. I am an absolute sucker for strings. They add a whole new and dynamic layer to the beauty of the music. Enough for me to take multiple notes about it, which is especially wild because I am usually more focused on the lyrics than the production around the instruments. Some of the songs on this project also felt like they were something close to a character study. I specifically think of "Rule #43 - Chosen", which feels like an anthem for a morally gray character. I found it to be incredibly fascinating and it helped to keep the album from potentially feeling too similar throughout.
If I had to choose a favorite song, I would pick "Rule #40 - Brave". Again, I am an absolute sucker for the strings, which this song is chock full of. I also found the message to be brilliantly told through the symbolism and storytelling of the track. I listened to it like three times after my initial listen-through of the album.
There was one thing that got to me while listening to this album. There were a few songs around the middle that felt like they dragged on a little longer than they should have. While they're still gorgeous songs, I found that it made the album flow less cohesively. However, I think the beauty of the tracks can help to keep that from making the album a less enjoyable listen.
If you have a love for folk music, then I suggest that you take a peek at this album. More specifically, those who are fans of Hozier or The Crane Wives will feel very at home in Fish in a Birdcage's album. I cannot wait to see what comes out of this project next.
#while looking for the art for this i found out that he plays the cello??#which is sick#i really do not know enough about this guy#fish in a birdcage#mentors#album review#review#music review#music recs

armageddon - aespa thoughts 🫶
initial: i’ve been waiting for this for almost two years. there have been so many delays and set backs, and even when it was initially announced, i didn’t believe it would actually happen bc i was so ready to be let down again. it’s my most anticipated album of all time. aespa’s discography is so superior (savage + MY WORLD being some of the greatest kpop minis ever imo) and i have such high hopes for æ1. all of the pre-release promotions have been so stellar and both TTs are beyond top tier. they’re probably the strongest aespa has ever released, so i have sm faith this album is going to be phenomenal. MY have been waiting so long for aespa to drop aoty i really can’t believe it’s finally here and we get to keep it forever 🤍
supernova: i loved this from first listen. i absolutely adore high energy weird aespa. to me this has felt like a combination of spicy + illusion in a way that pushes them further and develops their sound even more as a group. solid contender for my favorite aespa TT (tied with wtmw)
armageddon: aespa has always gone off with ad libs but this is another level. i loooove the world play between "armageddon" and "imma get it." easily their most ambitious TT and (imo) unquestionably the strongest song they've ever released. aespa has never been more locked into their song + concept then they are rn which is exactly what i dreamed of this being. we knew it would be amazing bc of how much they hyped it up, but to have it still be even more.. will be crying over this song for a long time 🤍
set the tone: FANTASTIC transition from supernova + armageddon. definitely see this being a favorite for a lot of ppl. sister of salty & sweet and lingo. the pre-chorus giving us everything and providing the perfect contrast to keep the song from being monotonous. i love how the bass line pushes the song forward
mine: dark + heavy suit aespa sm. the metallic sound in the background... savage influence shining through. both the raps + vocals in this sound soo great. this song screams aespa sooo much. definitely one of their great bsides ever... and i think it'll remain in the rankings for the rest of their career 💖
licorice: another song we've heard!! track vid was sooooo fun. i 🤍 quirky aespa + licorice + mint choco so what's not to love here ^^ this feels like car ride music or songs for getting ready in the morning. not exactly in a chill way but in a "getting ready to face something." i loooove the guitar in the background. im always a huge fan of guitar highlights and it just gives the song the final flair it needs to be solidly great and interesting
cannot overlook the importance of these two tracks for the album. as stand alone tracks they are both so fun and upbeat. within the context of the album, they are THE transition between the two halves of the album and they make it a seamless and beautiful experience when you’re listening through the full albums. mvps of the album fr it could not be the same experience without them performing so stunningly these sisters deserve all the flowers 🤍🤍🤍
bahama: the way i have anticipated youuuuuuuu. their soft and sweet vocals 🤍🤍🤍🤍 i would love if we someday get a mini full of songs like this + better things + yeppi yeppi. it's just so pretty but still peppy and fun. this perfectly encapsulates that side of aespa. for the last three years, i think SM has been trying to create this exact bside on each mini, and they've finally nailed it and jesus they really blew it out of the water 😭🌴
long chat (#♥️): the cuuuutest track video. sm really gave us the perfect styling for every concept we could have hoped for this time ^^ thirsty + bahama sister song 👯♀️ idk what TMT means but i trust ning when she says it's what they are <3 there's just something so fun and endearing seeing them do these concepts. it's so different then how they debuted but it's something that's been with them since predebut + they showed this side within months of debuting with forever. you can tell it's v precious and dear to them and something they love and that suits them so well 🤍
prologue: the ooo ooo ooo's.. im already so in love. karina's singing voice 🤍🤍🤍 winter singing "im a weirdoooo" ilysm. i'm gonna look up lyrics bc this sounds so intimate and heartfelt... ohhh ning bridge. their vocals have shone so many times before but they have never sounded better than this.
ohh the lyrics are even more than i imagined. easily the most precious song in their discography to date.. and another song they've been working toward their entire career. it's so heart achingly intimate and sad and scared and hopeful... i can't say ive ever loved aespa more than I do in this moment 🤍 it makes me feel that the girls had a lot of input and involvement in the album and that their desires and interests were really taken into consideration and upheld which makes me so glad. ik i keep saying it but i feels sm like this is the exact album that the girls wanted it to be and every song only furthers that conviction
live my life: back to yt bc i never got around to this track vid bc of work </3 they are sooo precious. aespa getting their soft rock moment 😭😭😭😭 cannot explain how much this sound + aesthetic align with my taste perfectly 🤍 // take two for lyrics: they're really having their coming of age movie moment <3333 the lyrical callbacks to life's too short and visual callbacks to wtmw... i'm struggling to explain how much i love this project and just how perfect i think it is.. all i can say is that every single thing they've done so far makes so much sense and was the perfect decision over and over and over // take three for album version: the added bridge (?) with vocal moments... exactly what the song needed to feel complete
melody: we made it... final track of æ1. we're so lucky to have made it this far and it still feels unreal that we have the full album now. the entire album has been nothing short of stellar so im excited to see how they close it out. the girlies (and SM) usually go for a ballad to finish things out so we'll see how it hits <3
this is soo typical aespa album closer but even more twinkly and full than usual 💫✨💫 sonically it reminds me a lot of "til we meet again." sister of forever + 'til we meet again + "cause youre MY whole world" they are sooo cute. i think the song is even sweeter knowing that they debuted during covid, waited so long to meet fans, became so much stronger and more dynamic as performers after finally performing to their fans live, qnd they're releasing this off of their first concert experience. it's the sweetest and most expected way they could have finished this amazing experience of æ1 🫶
misc thoughts:
so much quirky aespa sprinkled throughout its super fun ^^
i love how much rina's and giselle's vocals get to shine throughout the album. their rapping is great and always enjoyable, but their voices hit differently especially when utilized well. further solidifying aespa as one the best vocal groups of fourth gen <3
ning + winter get to play off each other so often i looove the difference in their vocal colors and line delivery
i love the contrasting visual / aesthetic / concepts showcased throughout the album and the way they all still feel like aespa
overall:
the tracklisting is genius. in some ways, it’s like two totally different albums pushed together. the first half versus the second half are so different sonically, but it works perfectly. aespa’s discography has always been so diverse, and the members have always been vocal about their varying interests and desires to explore different genres and concepts. putting together everything that they’ve released before into a cohesive project, where every song has a connection to a previous release, while still making each new song fresh and elevated and better than anything they’ve given us before, is such an incredible feat. this is something they should be so so proud of bc it’s genuinely phenomenal.
the first half playing up their futuristic concept and emphasizing their strength and confidence while the second half becomes soft and vulnerable gives them the ability to express their full range. nothing feels boring or overused, and it all feels natural to them. each section accomplishes its sound so expertly they are incredible songs truly
standout songs rn: mine; BAHAMA; prologue (but realistically… they are truly all so amazing and hit different moods)
second half of the album (bahama onward) hit more for me bc that’s my personal taste in music (also why MY WORLD has been my favorite release from them) and will likely get the most play, but godddd does the first half hit <333 when i need that energy it’s gonna be so good
i’m really excited to add their songs into playlists and put together different vibes solely from their discography… still reeling from the reality of TEN new aespa songs <33333 and more to come later in the year if the jp release holds true <3
genuinely. truly. earnestly. honestly. happily. with the greatest relief and satisfaction, i can report that this album is everything i have asked for and so much more. my heart is exploding for them 🤍
æ1 i’m soo pleased to finally know you and see armageddon prove itself as aoty just like we always knew you would 🫶 we believed in you for so long and it feels unreal to finally have you and be able to cherish you forever
#happy happy happy!!!! im so happy for my girls 🤍🤍🤍#congrats on your first album aespa 🎉🎉🎉🎉#you’ve already proven over and over again that you’re one of the greats#but this has truly solidified your place in kpop history and music forever 💐#will be crying over this forever and ever 🥰#+thoughts#+aespa

How did u initially get into Spoon, what was the first song/album you fell in love with and why?
↑ me explaining things
strangely, it all started nearly a decade now when i was still venturing out and crafting my own tastes. i would frequent a little (now long since shuttered) record store in my tiny town, i saw they want my soul’s album art and was enamored and intrigued by it. iirc it was maybe a week or so after release bc it was store pick and at the front desk so i probably wouldn’t have seen it otherwise! then saw the bands name was spoon and thought that was just really… bizarre. stupid even. anyways i ended up memory holing it for 8 years until last year when i was doing a watch-through of noel era never mind the buzzcocks and somebody (cannot for the life of me remember who, definitely came from phill’s side though) *i think* said something about stupid band names, like “what’s next? [word], [word], spoon?” and i was like WAIT A MINUTE… i know there’s a band named spoon and i too thought it was absurd. subnote is for a long time i conflated spoon with elbow, i’m not entirely sure as to why, but i do recall a grief councilor i was speaking to around the same time suggesting i listen to elbow (still haven’t done it! sorry!) and i think the oddness of the band names and time period overlapped. elbow is mentioned more than a few times on buzzcocks too so that sort of reminded me a bit too, but it wasn’t until i actually heard it said i was like yeah. i have to dig in on this. maybe a week later i was on a train-ride into the city and was like yeah maybe i should listen to they want my soul and u can basically say thee rest is HERstory or something.
here’s the canonic first three ↓

inside out was unlike anything else i’d heard from a band of that genre and we ALL KNOW how mid to awful most of-the-era alt/indie rock bands sounded when they started incorporating synthetic elements to their music. it’s just so ethereal. magical. beautifully crafted from silk strands colored cobalt. it’s unlike anything else on that album let alone their entire discography. the fact they managed to pull that off so perfectly is more than a testament to their talents and ability to make good fucking music. name one of their contemporaries that has pulled off some electronic elemental incorporation as perfectly as this. i really don’t think you can.
anyways i pretty much just listened to twms two or three times in full after that for a good while until about mid july where i must of off handedly heard something from it again and was bored enough to begin the deep dive. kept on revisiting things and it all just sort of spiraled badly by that point and by august they were the only thing i was listening to and it only got worse. coincidentally it all tied in with a massive relapse so they were and still are, a comfort in that mess.

i managed to break 5k scrobbles on them like 4 days before i flew out to see them too which is just absurd 😭
anyways in the midst of that i was so bored i was like i have to dig into britt’s lore but for what it’s worth when i first saw a pic of him i was legitimately terrified by him. the combo of the blond hair and tall gauntness actually frightened me. but the scariness turned to intrigue and now we know where i sit on that subject. then i started to occasionaly post abt it here after my beloved twt echo chamber were revolted by my new white man of the every 6 months. then spoon anon reached me and i was like Wait people actually kinda gaf so i pretty much exclusively do that here 😭😭😭😭 i rarely even self posted the way i do now before this because i couldn’t make it not feel weird.
onto the final part of me deciding to see them coming from a place of actual if i don’t do this i’ll regret it guilt because i’d massively gotten into pavement like 8 months earlier and they toured here just as i was really into them and didn’t see them when i could have. it was kind of coincidental spoon were touring here just as i was really like… fixating upon them i think. but obviously it was worth it to see them!!!!!! and i would see them a million times over, genuinely. if they ever float towards you PLEASE GO SEE THEM. also me seeing them was a kind of mentally momentous occasion for me as i essentially describe myself as a hikikomori. the last time i’d ever attended a gig was in 2016 on my birthday, and i was with friends. never in a million years did i think i’d chalk it up to attending something like that alone given i’ve been felt up by drunks and crushed against barricades at the two shows i’d actually attended prior to them. that coupled with the fact i’ve always been terrified of being outside my house alone made me deciding to leave the entire state on a flight to see them all on my own really important. so thank you spoon for breaking me out of my own safety bubble lol.
in conclusion; spoon is very literally americas greatest band
a funny note is that prior to all of this i was an enjoyer of the preatures debut album blue planet eyes and imagine how 😳😳😳😳😳 i was when i found out jim produced that. really great album btw. the copy of it i’ve had rotting away on my bedroom shelf for the last 7 or something years may have been a sign… fate or something lol 😵💫 also funnier is way way way back in ‘13 when i first heard is this how you feel? i for the longest time thought it was a haim song which is even more hfjrhdhdh now that we know alex was in a proto-haim and best friends w them. at least it’s funny to me!!!!! fate brought me spoon i think… it was meant to be ❤️

Hi! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Did you do anything? We usually don't so it's mostly just chill but we still ate plenty of food. I cannot cook at all though haha. Oh no! I'm sorry you're so sick again. I have been pretty lucky in that way that I haven't been that sick in a while and haven't had to see a doctor or anything. I can relate to that a little but actually I'm more likely to brush any sickness or pain off so idk. I figured you did not have any siblings since you probably would have mentioned it but thought I would ask. I don't think I've ever heard of peach pie wine but it sounds like it could be good and it does fit the season. I ate pumpkin pie today lol. I've never really been to Trader Joe's either. I'm not a big drinker either but I did get Trulys to drink for the weekend but that's mostly all I will drink usually.
Oh okay I guess I was right but that must have been pretty hard to make friends. I always had my sister but it was still pretty hard so I can't imagine that. and yay I still love the video so much and used to watch it all the time. For me, I actually didn't get into all her stuff right away..I never bought her album until Fearless and didn't know which songs were released or unreleased until later. My friend at the time got me more into her and I remember asking her about permanent marker or I heart ? And she had no idea what I was talking about lol. I think I had heard Our Song and Should've said No and Invisible at the time but I wasn't that familiar with the debut album until it was put on streaming..and my sister barely knows it at all. That's another reason I'm excited for the rerecording and I usually never listen to the full album either. I'm familiar with some unreleased songs so I'm curious to see the vault. Like I had already heard We Were Happy and You all over Me and probably Bye Bye Baby before they were on Fearless. But the only ones I know really well are Dark Blue Tennessee, I'd Lie, Permanent Marker, I Heart, I've heard others like South of knowing Why, Diary of Me, Sweet Tea, close to a cowboy Welcome Distraction, This is really happening, and probably more, but I'm not as familiar with those anymore. I wondered if her and Hayley would sing Castles Crumbling at every show too like with Nothing New so I guess we will see. I will share my top songs when the time comes and usually Spotify wrapped helps with that but I like to pick too cuz sometimes I'm not always streaming certain stuff. I'm sorry you couldn't make your concerts..that's such a bummer. I think my favorite Del Water Gap song was Glitter and Honey or All we ever do is talk I think. What about you? I hope you enjoy Cannons or Bad Suns if you get a chance to listen. I loved their last albums so much but need more time with their newer albums.
That makes sense and I know most people are like that but I'm just more of a maybe person and things come up sometimes so I can never be that sure about things, but it also leads to me missing things. I hope you have fun if you plan it. So I saw a clip of Jordan Fisher's Orpheus singing Wait For Me and he sounds so good! What did you think of it? I didn't have a chance to watch any musical parade performances yet but will later.
I will probably see the movie this weekend so I will give you a review then..but I will be interested in your opinion of the book. Some people really don't like it or found it pointless but I think I'm just kinda in the middle and I think the movie will help. Ya for me..I think I will be too busy to focus on any reading for next month. Then I'm working on making some reading goals for next year. Some of that includes continuing the books from the reading challenge that were already on my list. But I'm trying this new thing in the new year where I try to read two books a month as a pair..one that I wanna read and one from my shelf. One example is the night circus and maybe the Starless Sea if I could find it, People We Meet on Vacation and another Emily Henry book..or hopefully read them all. The two twins books I've been talking about for a while..lol. Finishing Business or Pleasure and probably another one of her adult romances..just a few examples. I also wanna finish Daisy Jones and the show finally..maybe with Evelyn Hugo..idk. I also realized that I have the book One Day on my shelf and after I thought about it..it seems pretty similar to Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow so I think it will be a pair, but I'll save it for whenever you wanna come back to it. I have to think about it more though cuz I do have a lot of random books on my shelf. Sorry if this is confusing haha but I think it could motivate me to read more.
I got a new vinyl record player but haven't used it yet lol. Like I said, I don't really play it but I'm hoping that could change in the new year too lol. I think I've played
So you agree that she will focus on the rerecording and not new music then right? I think that's just what makes sense to me. I love the surprise songs pairs but Me and So it Goes didn't really go together lol. Ya I already know Maisie and Taylor are going to be in my top songs and albums lol. Anyway I forgot there is a show tonight so I will just randomly guess surprise songs now. I guess I wasn't that off last time. Maybe I will guess 3 choices cuz there's 3 shows but these are just completely random. The Way I loved you and Closure, Say Don't Go and Forever Winter, and Glitch and Afterglow. This will probably be way off haha. Oh yay that will be nice for you if that happens again..so hopefully it comes true. It's so far away though haha. Omg yes..that is totally us!!! But we are also pretty similar most of the time too and I guess me and you are too. I hope you have a nice weekend and don't worry about replying if you're trying to get better! 🩷
we had a few people over for thanksgiving! thanksgiving at my house was brought to you by a text to speech app, since i still don't have a voice 😵💫. i am also terrible at cooking, but i love love love baking! i'm trying to cook more and be a little more adventurous though, definitely a 2024 goal for sure! i just really love how baking seems to be more exact? and cooking is a little more vibey and there's some wiggle room. so i struggle a bit with that! and i just find it very intimidating; a lot of my family (esp. extended family) are very very good at cooking, and well! starting from very basics while everyone else is incredibly good is hard, but that's also the only way you get better!
today is actually my sixth day without a voice which is very, very frustrating and just annoying and i am very much being a baby about the whole thing! i am just tired of constantly being sick, and i'm sure everyone in my life is also tired of hearing about it. but i'm trying to find some humor in the situation! are you a pumpkin pie fan? i'm more of an apple pie girlie — but my preference is actually apple crumble! i used to work right around the corner from a trader joe's, and i live about ~ 15 minutes from a trader joes now (probably the closest grocery store to me that's not safeway)! they have some really good snacks (i loveee their olive oil popcorn; haven't had it in a while but i used to buy bags of it and put them in my work cubicle and have ~ popcorn parties ~ with my coworkers on fridays.) i had a truly once (this year! back in january! at my first kraken game!) and it was fun! but yeah, not a huge drinker over here!
omg i have a huge list of debut vault tracks i want — your face, your anything, you don't have to call me, sweet tea & god's graces, r-e-v-e-n-g-e, smokey black nights, lucky you, what to wear, i'd lie, this is really happening, dark blue tennessee, i heart?, etc! i'm still holding out hope for battle (i'm delusional) and need! i wonder if she'll rerecord beautiful eyes, or if she'll put it on debut tv — and i also wonder if she'll rerecord the holiday album too!
i really love all we ever do is talk too, it's probably my favorite from the new dwg album! i haven't listened to it as much lately, so i'll have to do a relisten! been listening to a lot of the japanese house (and wallowing because i'm quite bummed about missing the concert) this week but i think i'm going to listen to i miss you already + i haven't left yet tonight while i try to read once i finish my audiobook!
i really liked his wait for me, and also his if it's true! i haven't seen a full audio yet, but i saw some clips on tiktok and liked what i heard! i'm curious to see how he'll sound as he settles into his role more! i heard some rumors about a new eurydice stunt cast too, which i don't know how i feel about! i haven't seen any musical parade performances either, but i did finally watch the dwts taylor performances on youtube the other night! have you seen them yet? what are your thoughts?
what other reading goals do you have? i haven't even begun to think about 2024 reads yet, or even my 2024 anticipated releases, but i want to do that! i went into 2023 with "23 books i want to read this year" and i really don't think i made much progress there, so i'll have to revisit/revise that list for next year! you could always do the new emily henry too — funny story! and not confusing at all, all in favor for anything that'll motivate you to read more 🤍
what does your new vinyl player look like? i love talking about vinyls! i'm thinking about maybe buying another vinyl tomorrow — i don't need this one but the design is really pretty, but it's a "surplus sunday" limited sale, so it's really just ... up to fate/luck/etc i think!
and yes, i do think she'll focus on rerecordings first, but i think she's making steady progress with TS11! maisie and taylor are definitely in my top listened to artists!! i've been following along with my apple music replay stats all year, and also airbuds widget stats so that's been very fun! i realized that i've seen all of my top 5 most listened to artists this year live (this year!) which was really cool! i was sure she was going to sing say don't go this weekend, but she sang SAFE AND SOUND AND UNTOUCHABLE INSTEAD??? which was wild to me! it sounded so good!
i hope you have a good weekend! and that you had fun at the movies — can't wait to hear your thoughts! 🤍 hope you're doin well and that you have a gooood week ahead!

The opening of my first novel, Yeh-Yeh
CHAPTER ONE.
"Turn it off! Turn this shit off right now! I cannot drink...I cannot get drunk listening to Pink Floyd. It’s wrong...it's impossible...it's like trying to fall asleep with a coffee I.V. stuck in your arm. I’m not kidding!" Adam stood from the kitchen table and grabbed another drink from the fridge. Popped open the can and sat back down waiting. From the living room the music ended and silence soon fell like a suicide off the Brooklyn Bridge. "Much better Dave. Give me silence! Give me anarchy! Give me fucking Rick Springfield so I could at least laugh but never ever again give me Pink fucking Floyd. Jesus H." Dave threw both arms in the air and proceeded to give two big middle fingers. Adam did not see this of course and I doubt if he would have cared. As long as the music was changed he would be happy for the rest of the night. Dave put down his hands, lit a Camel and walked slowly to the bathroom. He closed the door. "Adam, you got to chill man. Hell, I'm no Pink Floyd fan; in fact I'd rather go see a drunken proctologist than listen to that shit but after all it is his house. It is his beer. And your ass is sitting in his chair. Lighten up." I stood behind Adam and began to rub his shoulders. "Now, having said that my funky friend, what would like to listen to? Any requests from the Master Guest?" He took a pull from his drink and let out a typical Adam sigh, “I bet Dave has a lot of Vanilla Fudge records we could listen to." And with that he stood up, turned around and kissed me hard on the cheek. "You know I love you don't you man?" He grabbed the pack of cigarettes out of my shirt pocket, took one out and inspected it. "I don't know why you smoke these shitty Lights man. You have to suck like Tracey Lords just to get a hit off it." He put one in his mouth anyway and lit it off the stove. "Now, let’s go finger around Dave’s collection. There has got to be something decent we can listen to." He walked out of the room. I followed him.
"Dave" Adam yelled as we walked by the bathroom door, "Where do you keep your Iron Butterfly records? We really want to hear their twenty minute jam of Gadda Di Vida!" "Fuck you Adam" came the irritated reply. "Or how about some Deep Purple" I added. "Fuck you Jimmy, Dave yelled, if you don't like my stuff you know where the door is. And you better not take off with my fucking beer and whisky." I heard him mutter "Assholes." We sat in front of the stereo looking for something to play. "Should we leave?" I asked. "Naw, it's too much fun torturing David. I think in a strange way he really enjoys it." I pulled out a Doors record and held it up to Adam. We both started laughing. "My God. What horrible taste in music this kid has. He must have been a C Section baby!" Adam giggled and ran his fingers through his hair. "You know Jim, I've known you for what...10, maybe 12 years now and I have no idea what your middle name is. Don't you think that is odd?" "I've never really thought about it. Besides it's never come up before. Would you like to know it?" Adam dug his thumb into a pile of old 45's and began flipping through them. "No, let’s keep your middle name a Agatha Christie mystery." "Right." I said. After about 30 minutes Dave came out of the bathroom cleanly shaved and washed. "Now I feel much better." He went into the kitchen and lit a smoke. Coming into the living room he turned around in a full circle, searching for something. "Whatcha looking for Dave?" "Where on Gods earth did you find this music? Is this Adam and the Fucking Ants?" "Yea, I said. We found it behind your stereo. Between the Guess Who and Yardbirds albums. Ant Music! Ant Music rules Dave!" Dave took a seat on the floor next to us. "Shannon must have left that behind. It certainly is not mine. Bitch." "Whatever became of her Dave?" Adam asked. I always thought she was alright. A cool number." Dave took a look at his now half finished cigarette and addressed me although I did not ask the question. "She moved out of the city. Went back home to get an apartment with her sister. Last I heard she was a Nurse’s aide or something. Something medical. The bitch." "Is that why you guys split up" I asked. Dave watched the album spin under the needle. He smirked and said "Yea, that had something to do with it. It was a mess." He looked behind him and mumbled "I had no idea she forgot that record. I know she left her foot bath behind." Dave trailed off and got up and went back to the bathroom. He closed the door again.

okay wait this makes me want to listen to MCR… what style of music is it?
omg omg omg
its rock but its been lumped into emo and poppunk a few times???? hard rock??? its definately rock tho and its fucking incredible. it really depends on what album you listen to for which genre
listen to every album in order though. or u will not have the Correct Experience.
if ur less into like. screaming and more into like pop esque sounds, danger days is good
if u wanna really get the full experience, start at bullets and end at foundations of decay
if itll help; heres my favorite albums in order, tho i love em all
1) three cheers for sweet revenge: this is all about anger and dealing with it and stuff. its a lot more intense (thats my opinion tho) its incredible. my favorite songs off it are: to the end, thank you for the venom, hang em high, and also the entire album. not a bad song on the album. no skips here.
2) black parade. the story and concept behind it is really great. this was my first album i listened to of them, so its high up here for sentimental reasons. no skip album. i love famous last words, disenchanted, and dead. LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM IN ORDER.
3. conventional weapons: not technically just one album?? idk how to explain it, but every song fucks immensely. the light behind your eyes is probably my favorite song by mcr. do not listen to this song in public you will cry.
4. i brought you my bullets.....etc: fantastic album. no skip album. my older brother learned the first song on the album (romance) on guitar bc i bullied him into it. truly a fantastic album. i love vampires will never hurt you and demolition lovers. definately more "screamy" tho, so if u dont like that, dont start w bullets
5. danger days. i fucking love danger days. its based around a really cool concept (look into it. or else). its such a good album. its a lot peppier than the others but also itll hurt u in ways u cannot imagine. i fucking love party poison and planatary go. sing changed something in me. again. no skip album
listen to desolation row.
this list was hard to make, so honestly: listen to all of them in chronological order.
i love every album and every album is no skip.
yall feel free to put ur thoughts in here!
