you know the show is going to be good when it starts off with whump… i introduce you to my new blorbo peter, an FBI agent who gets wrapped up in some conspiracy plot and is protecting/rescuing a civilian. he gets injured in an explosion + run over by a car in the first 10mins of ep 1, has physical and emotional-traumatic scars, gets shot at + beaten up + punched MULTIPLE TIMES throughout the series, major delicious whump with aftercare in ep 6. plus a cute slow burn. it’s an old style spy thriller and it’s (whumpy) goooood.

how incredibly jarring though, the transition for brook as he joins the straw hats. to go from fifty years spent alone to being surrounded by people--by this lively bunch at that. the dissonance to go from the quiet fog and nothing but the sound of waves and his own voice and humming to bright laughter and someone shouting from the galley that lunch is ready, to someone else yelling about spotting an island off the port side. or just the gentle quiet of other life around him, the day to day menial tasks that don't draw much attention from the others, but it's all brook focuses on for a minute. to help wash the dishes and it's something he hasn't done in years, nor has he shared a meal with anyone else. to sit in the sun and doze, to hear the wind in the sails and the waves crest against the hull and know there's a destination in mind instead of drifting. or to just open his eyes (yohoho) and to find someone looking back at him, someone who's tangible and real, and who beams and fixes his hat on his head and asks if brook will play a song, and he'll play again and again and again because for the first time in fifty years he doesn't have an audience of one.

life is so complicated when u want to read something with an extremely specific vibe but can't find anything and don't have the time/skills/energy to write it yourself

like I'm so desperate to read something about people being stuck underwater/on the ocean floor for a concerning period of time and slowly losing their minds in the cold dark empty sea and battling with the fear of being completely horribly alone under the surface versus the possibility of supernatural forces existing alongside them + bonus points if there are survivors who return but when they come back they are unrecognizable and their loved ones can tell that there is something profoundly wrong or innately different (think underwater (2020) / our wives under the sea (julia armfield) / the creepy atmosphere in the cloverfield paradox (2018) where it feels like the vessel has a life of its own)

i think showmances are fine, i think someone wanting to be in a showmance is also fine BUT only if they want to win more than be in a showmance. moving these people who auditioned for love island onto bb is so annoying because a showmance CAN help your game and be part of your strategy but if you’re not smart enough to move the both of you through the game, it makes for some of the most obnoxious gameplay we’ve ever been subjected to and some these kids, they are not making it!!!
