                 Once, they had been friends.

                 Friends that had laughed together, shared gossip about the lanky man that had been their mutual acquaintance, even had played pranks together on that man. He would provide her snacks and tea and she was the one who would gladly help him out in their shared remonstrance of the man. He'd even helped her with her paperwork with gentle patience. From her, he had hidden the emotions which were unanswered, the way that he was suffering. He revealed it only to one other soul when he arrived in his life. But the anger was strong, anger that was built from the willful ignorance and neglect of others.

                 On that night a hundred years ago, he had shown himself without her awareness being part of it. He had glanced over when he'd heard her voice, distorted by the warbling flange of the Hollow overtaking her. She had been the first to begin coming back to awareness. Perhaps it was the fact that she was so vicious in personality at times, responding with the nature of one who was strong enough to maintain that position yet still weak for all of that. He envied her that position she had. She was cared for. She'd never lack for others to care for her.

                 Kaname was a zealot, a worshipper at his shrine. Gin was no devotee, but the blade caught in his hand, cutting where Aizen directed.

                 A hundred years had passed and now --- they were here again. All of them, the ones that he had willingly broken, the ones whose souls he had shattered, cut into shards. They had been collateral, the others, the rest. But him, the man with golden hair-- yes, Aizen did not care about them. He had not anticipated his captain being sent out this night for he had not been there to murmur suggestions into the ear of the Captain-Commander, had planned to take him down later. But the opportunity had been too good to pass up.

                 He remembered how Shinji had cried out for him to stop when he'd turned his head and spoken calmly to Kaname. But she had been cut down and it was a wonder to see her now.

                 Blonde hair puffed all the more and the red tracksuit was an interesting choice. But his attention had gone to his former captain, and he had taunted them, deliberately, sharply. He wanted to witness their anger. And it had paid out. His hand had drifted to the hilt of Kyoka Suigetsu and there was an awareness of Gin's nearness too, though Kaname was not one he expected to join him now. Not with the fact that Komamura and Hisagi were likely to take umbrage with his presence. Let them.

                 Aizen wanted to show his teeth the way he never had before, the way he had hidden from his captain for so long. No matter the emotions that Shinji had perpetually stirred in him, both the feelings of inadequacy of never being good enough for him and the affection that he dared not call love, the anger with him had become stronger, an emotion that had warped into something very near to hatred. Did he hate him? Not entirely --- but it was not, either, indifference. No, the man could pull such emotions from him that he could not put into easily checked off boxes.

                 But he wanted to hurt him again.

                 Hiyori launching herself at him was to be expected, and Aizen stepped forward to meet her. They swarmed him, but it was easy for him to speak a word and the Espada were there too, breaking them off. A twisting away from a slash from one blade, a half-dancing step from another ---

                 Then steel sinking into his shoulder from behind, punching through scapula and he felt it when it cut against his clavicle and punched outwards through his torso. A turning of his head ensued to find the masked face of Sarugaki Hiyori near his, her jaws coming open as she pulled in power so she could unleash a Cero at his head.

                 Aizen lunged forward and off of the blade, ignoring the feeling of pressure even as he ducked beneath that Cero, turning and looking to her whilst blood flowed down his shoulder. He ignored it, flexing his left hand -- range of motion and feeling, still good. She hadn't damaged the nerves. So he lifted his arm now as she bore down on him, power beginning to gather at his fingertips in a crackling burning pinpoint of blue-white lightning as his gaze met the ones that were of gold and black.

                 How potently Hiyori hated him now. That thought sent a hint of a pang of mourning through his head and heart, but they stood on opposing sides now. That was the nature of his ambition. Her loss would be but a grain of sand on the scales, one that would not add to the weight of the balance.

                 They had been friends once.

                 He spoke the words calmly, watching her eyes widen. Aizen ignored the blood that was running over his skin, ignored the hot sticky sensation of how it smeared over skin and cloth both. Cleaning the stains out of the fabric was going to be a bitch and a half. His mouth twitched sharply even as the Kido was unleashed, a cold smile on his features.

                 The Kido went off with a roar and an actinic flash of light that his eyes narrowed against, and he watched as the column of blue lightning and fire swallowed her.

                 Aizen Sousuke had always been a powerful man, unparalleled in many ways and boasting few equals in several others. The only one he considered equal to him was Gin and that had been the way of it for a long while. Kaname did not seek to rise to a different station with him, no; his loyal hound seemed content where he was. Yet power was measured in many ways and Aizen did not hold back in the casting of this Kido. It was time to remind everyone that he had such skill and power.

                 And his Kido had always been far stronger than those used by others; this one outstripped the one that Tsukabishi Tessai had fired at his back on that night by orders of magnitudes almost too vast to properly take in. It engulfed Hiyori and seared across the battlefield, forcing other souls to scatter even as it punched against --- through--- the wall of the Tenkai Kechuu. A flimsy enough barrier but it was quick to snap back thanks to the remaining three pillars.

                 He watched with coldly dispassionate eyes as a tiny figure charred and burnt beyond recognition tumbled towards the ground below, heard Shinji screaming her name as he dove for those remains (and Aizen knew they were remains), and moved his hand to draw the blade which rode upon his left hip. A twitch of that side's hand ensued and he spoke, knowing his voice would be heard.

                 ❝ Kill them, Gin. ❞

                 He would show them all what happened when a god rode to war. The silver lance of Shinso was nearly immediate, the blade slashing through the head of the one known as Otorobashi Rojuro and gone again. Gin was always ready; he was the right hand, the right arm, of this god. Perhaps not his god --- but he was Aizen's all the same. And so war it was.

Despite having academic degrees in History and Heritage, I am not strictly focused on the past. I am not fascinated by the idea that the best years - Humanity's and mine - live somewhere in the past. There is something deeply attractive, almost sensual, about nostalgia, but I am perfectly aware that longing for the past is also a powerful - and devastatingly sweet - poison. Maybe, my romantic side came with one of the most amazing traits of the XIX Century: a blind (almost religious) faith in the future and the progress. That’s why I believe my favourite decade is somewhere in the future. I only hope it’s not a decade after I am no longer alive… albeit I suspect that may be the case.

There's few things that struck me as a native speaker in the text and just wanted to point those out in case you weren't aware. You almost got it correct! Just few things that need to be adjusted for it to be gramatically correct:

"Olla" should be "ole" and "oot" only has one T. "Joka" is technically correct, but it's a bit more natural to use "kuka" (literally "who") in this sentence.

A correct translation would be 'Ole aina se kuka olet" or if you want more spoken finnish "oo aina se kuka oot"

Telling you this in case it wasn't intentional (and if it was I'm sorry)

I'm sorry but I have to gush over the new PSO2NGS Dark Falz Aegis fight. Specifically its music but I do have to give credit to the fight itself as well. Full thoughts under the cut. Warning: Very Long

It's super fun throughout the whole thing. The fight opens with the standard enemy gauntlet as you approach the boss itself, which is massive and wholly visible in the distance. As you finally close in, phase 1 begins. The music is a remix of the Dark Falz theme from your first battle with it in NGS. Aegis blends in with the darkened skies in a way that sells how powerful and insurmountable it is. You scramble around to kill more adds and dodge incoming lasers as you summon your own firepower, a portable cannon. The retaliation begins as you fire barrage after barrage at Aegis' barrier of guns.

It's fun as hell, but after enough damage is done, the Central Cannon fires a huge blast, weakening Aegis and beginning phase 2.

And holy shit-

The song opens with vocalist Anya Floris reprising the opening melody to Song of Mourning as the boss reveals its true form. Its attacks are easily called but devastating, prompting you to quickly learn its patterns for efficiency and to prevent a low rank. This somehow creates a battle that feels rewarding to master as you dodge perfectly while also maximizing damage done, which will be important as there are multiple DPS checks throughout the fight.

Anyways, the music.

I haven't found an official title for the song yet but I will add it here via edit when it is released. After the opening, the song Our Life, Our Scars properly begins with some anxious, doubtful lyrics.

Given the themes and context, it's not hard to see who this song is about;

It's Aina, your companion.

Despite what you may or may not think about NGS' story as a whole, Aina has been through a LOT of shit, with her father Garoa and hometown getting nuked by the very thing you are fighting and her being thrust into battle alongside you to try and carry Garoa's legacy despite her lack of experience. You've seen her grow and learn where her skills lie and how she can help and not feel like a burden to her team.

The intensity dies down a bit to allow you to focus on a chance for some big damage. Platforms raise up and you find debris to launch back at Aegis to chip off some more HP.

And then another voice joins the song.

What's your story? Where's your heartache? Hold out your hands to me In the dark times when you feel alone, let's find what we're here for What's the reason? Who's the target? Where is our tomorrow? There's a bit of speculation over what character this voice (EN: Aimee Blackschleger) is meant to represent but there's two main theories. It could be the Player Character, although personally, I'm pretty sure they are represented through a male vocalist (ex. PSO2's Dark to Light).

The other, more straightforward answer is that it's Manon, your other companion.

While Manon's story is still very much open, leaving a lot of her past and motives unknown, she certainly fits the bill to be supporting Aina's vocals here. She's very serious and "no-nonsense" when it comes to her job as an ARKS Defender, but she is still somewhat empathetic towards others. You finally see some of her emotional cracks show during the Stia campaign as being unable to save some of the fellow ARKS soldiers weighs on her mind heavily.

The song is more optimistic, but there's still an air of anxiety to it. Lots of questions, but they're slowly replaced by certainty and confidence. Nearing the end of this long encounter, you hear your allies sing with hope as you near the final DPS check.

I'm at your side) Taken out of my darkest hour, and leading the way (In the dark times, when you feel afraid, the way will become clearer) There's an answer. Life is with us. The final DPS check begins as you have to stop Aegis from absorbing enough energy to wipe you out. Dashing from meteor to meteor, you smash each rock as the music swells to begin finally playing the main theme, A World Beyond The Sky. Thanks for the ask! I've put some thoughts into these responses in order, which should be helpful when making sense of them all together:

I have a very simple and restricted vocabulary, so that doesn't help. A lot of what I can say is "noisy, ambiguous, hard to parse," in ways I probably can't make entirely clear (like all the stuff I can't parse in the above paragraph). I've also got a lot of personal baggage related to words, which can really affect the way they come out.

In general I want to do my best to avoid using technical jargon – even if it's familiar, even if it's jargon that's used by other speakers of my language. People who write in Piju, for instance, have a whole lot of jargon they use because they've gotten used to it for some reason, which I think they'd have to unlearn to speak more "correctly" in their language.

I'm not really sure how "correct" my pons are – not very – but it's still fun to try to improve them.

So, in a nutshell, there are some words I have that I really can't explain well, and I've noticed that most of them are related to gender. Here are a few:

All four of these are nouns meaning "man" or "person who is male." So the word for "man" is faile (i.e. "manly person"), and the word for "female" is hula (i.e. "womanliness"). "Person who is female" is sola (i.e. "womanness"), which is a distinct third category of person from faile and hula. ("Man" and "female" are not genders, and so they're "less" than "manness" and "womanness." It's sort of like English adjectives in that way.)

I can't think of a good way to say it, but these are literally nouns for "manliness" and "womanliness," respectively. Anyway, the idea is that Piju can have different words that, in English, might be considered "differently gendered" – faile, hula, and so on – and those are not different in any way at all that I am able to explain, but are different in some fundamental way.

This was one of the other ones I was trying to think about, but eventually I got overwhelmed. (For instance, the Piju word for "person who does something" is something like onamai, while the English one is "doer" – "person who does a thing" in Piju is something like sola-maika – and my brain couldn't handle them at once.)

Anyway, sona is a verb meaning "come," in the sense of "someone has arrived somewhere." It is a word that means "arrival," not "person who has arrived."

Like faile and sola, sona is a noun and an adjective. When describing things, it means "coming," "arrival," "thing that came." When it's used as an adjective, it means "person who is coming."

This is all she can think to say to such a revelation. A quiet “oh” and a glance down his metallic talons, her shoulders slumping under the weight of his words. He slipped his claw from her grasp & motioned to her arms. “You have the scars & callouses of a fighter, but you have too much heart for such a profession. In kaleeshi we call that dovt’iin. Save your apologies for when you need them.” He then waved his hand dismissively before tucking his stance back beneath his stooped shoulders.
