Hello, I'm here to add a little more context from my time researching yokai for my Dr. Stone god au fic A Thousand Steps

Ningyo scales are stated to give immortalality when eaten. The tales say that a fisherman's daughter who ate the scale outlived everyone she loved and decided to end her own life. She chose mortality over eternal life, which is a motif in our story

I appreciate Senku's Oni design so much, as oni have been known to both hinder and help humans! In fact, in the tale of the red and blue oni, a red oni pretended to be evil and mean so the blue one could fight him off and befriend the humans. What the blue oni failed to realize was that the red oni would have to leave forever as the humans would feel betrayed and tricked if they knew it was all a ruse. It's about the sacrifices we make and the consequences we had not forseen

Nekomata, the cat with two tails, is actually a sign that the cat was well loved for in their life! If you are followed by the Nekomata it is a good omen: trust this person. They know the value of life. Perfect for Ukyo

Tengu are JERKS okay. Like mischief angels, they put on a mask and bully humans much like trickster foxes. It really highlights Hyoga's chaotic nature I think, plus the idea that a Tengu on your side is a blessing and a Tengu working against you is miserable, so nice touch

Kamaitachi is also heavily related to death: a sickle or hoe used for digging graves became abandoned and possessed, slicing unsuspecting people but never do they bleed (vampire weasel? Sign me up) They are known to cause strange phenomenon and ride dust clouds-- so I believe it's a mix of the themes of life and death in Dr. Stone as well a nod to Chromes mastery of the land

Tsukasa being a god of death is so perfect! He saw his actions as duty, not sin. He is haunted by those he's "killed". He also has command over life (giving the locations of all crushed statues)

I'm no expert by any means but yokai and Dr. Stone are two subjects very dear to me so I hope you enjoyed it!

im thinking a lot about his complex role as a healer. his stand isn't meant to heal, he essentially brute forces it, which fits for the kind of person he is vs Josuke. furthermore, giorno is very self sacrificing in a very literal sense. he loses multiple body parts over the course of part 5 and just has to remake them. there's a ship of Theseus paradox here though I dont think THAT much of him was remade.

after the white album fight, mista tells him that their victory will be all of them surviving together as giorno once again tries to sacrifice himself. he takes this to heart, but soon afterwards its proven that this cannot always happen. His healing isn't enough. he can only give Bruno a little more time. and his reaction when bruno tells him this says everything.

Keeping everyone alive is his role, and he spends the early days of the part being given shit for being a newcomer, so having a solidified sense of usefulness only to have it swiped away so quickly when his stand cannot save his comrades is rough.

golden experience requiem is interesting in this context because its main purpose is protecting him from any and all harm. giorno has again, spent the entire part going through jojo typical levels of body horror, gore, etc, with the added benefit that he can remake limbs and chunks of flesh so they can do a lot worse to the part 5 cast and have them live. so in one sense, GER is a reward of sorts. he endured all that and his reward is never getting hurt again.

But at the same time, it's cruel irony that even with one of the most powerful stands in the world, its capabilities are on protecting him and no other. im sure that his enhanced capabilities make it easier of course, but the idea that he could still be too late will forever remain. whug.

saw you were rewatching Lucifer! How do you think Hannibal and Lucifer would interact??

They would not get along at first, but Hannibal would be interested in his psyche, and Lucifer would try to be more like Hannibal because Chloe respects him. And through therapy they would learn that they’re not so different.

They’re both into theatrics, and keeping up certain appearances. Hiding in plain sight, making jokes only they understand. They’d both recognize each other fairly quickly, both devils punishing people.

Oh and Lucifer would immediately point out the sexual tension between Will and Hannibal. It would be non stop innuendos.

I have no idea if this is a popular opinion or not but the whole “Cole is the Source” thing really should’ve been a whole season. Sure, has its issues and plot elements I could certainly do without but as a whole, this is honestly the most engaged and entertained I’ve been by the show all season and I would’ve really loved it if it lasted more than 7 episodes. I’m sure there’s reasons why I couldn’t work but I think it would’ve really been interesting if vanquishing the original Source had been a season finale and then we got Cole struggling with the Source powers, ultimately being taken over by them, and then having to kinda skirt beneath the Charmed Ones’ radar all spread out over like 10 episodes—along with more focus on Phoebe and the sisters and what’s going on with them during this. Then mid season (or maybe 2/3rds season), Phoebe finds out and becomes the Queen of the Underworld for the rest of the season until she vanquishes Cole. Or something along those lines. I honestly just would love more of this plot because it’s super interesting

I honestly can’t imagine loving Katherine but finding Elena completely uninteresting or loving Elena but having nothing but contempt for Katherine. Like I love both but prefer Katherine, yet I just think neither would be nearly as interesting without the other’s existence and what they bring to / inform in the other character. They’re fundamentally not nearly as interesting without the other.
