Baby Bridgerton meet cute au
Today on another episode of Bridgerton fics I really want to read. But can't write because I lack both the time and the creativity to do them justice
Baby Bridgerton meet Cute au
Saphne:
Young stuttering Eton aged Simon Basset meeting Anthony's little sister on a visit to the Bridgerton home and immediately being pulled into a game of house by Anthony's tallest little sister. Who forces him to play husband and she will be the wife and all her siblings now are their kids so they must listen to her of course. Because she's the mom. And him the dad. Simon stutters the whole time but leaves little Daphne with the most organized pretend household he can manage before running off to find Anthony to ask to come over more often
Kanthony:
Young 10 yo Anthony finding a scared toddler Kate afraid of storms, asking him to help her find her papa and pretty Miss Mary in Hyde Park. Because she can't find them and its started to rain and she's scared. And Anthony being the gallant kid he is, shelters the little girl from the rain with his coat under a tree, and returns her to her father as soon as he hears voices looking for her. The day after he meets her, he finds out that the little girl Kate, is the daughter of the man who just ran off with the season's diamond. He wonders if he'll ever see her again
Benophie:
Benedict met Sophie in the theater when Sophie was four, since her mother was an actress and Sophie would have been trained to appear on stage. Benedict saw little Sophie play a little Christmas angel in a opera and immediately asked his father if they could meet the actors, just so he could give the little angel girl a flower and tell her she was pretty. Sadly Sophie's mother died not soon after and rather than see the little girl starve, grandmother left her at the doorstep of the Earl of Gunningworth. But she never forgot the dream of the nice boy in the theater who once called her pretty
Polin
The first time Colin met newborn Penelope with her red hair and Rosy cheeks, he wanted to take her home with him and share with her his favorite cake and biscuits. Penelope would cry if Colin was too far from her cradle and Colin declared to all sundry that baby Penelope was "his Pen" for almost all the time it took Penelope to learn how to talk and say it back. Even if adults tried to convince him that Penelope wasn't "one of his" thinking he was confused about his many siblings growing in number. Colin remained insistent for most of Penelope's early years, that Penelope was 'his' Pen the way he was 'my Colin' for her. they only outgrew the habit after he left for school and made more friends his age. Still Penelope never forgot that he was 'her Colin'. Even if Colin did as they grew older. (or maybe he's always been sure she's 'his' Pen too)
Philoise
Their first time meeting was on one of young Phillip's visits to London with his father. Little Eloise had snuck out behind her parents back to a particularly busy bookshop and happened to see an older boy, buy the exact same book that little Eloise had been eying for ages. So of course like any Viscount baby sis...She threw a tantrum. Phillip was terrified of the crying girl who kept accusing him of stealing her book, but he wanted to keep the book, so he just, found something else to give her, shaved ice? did she want shaved ice? he got it for her, maybe a toy, yes, little girls liked toys, here's a toy, just don't cry, don't cry. By the time Edmund found Eloise again, she was grinning, sitting atop of veritable mountain of trinkets, eating shaved ice, with a devoted young boy profusely apologizing to her. Phillip went home with his book and every time he read it, he remembered fondly the cute little tantrum thrower who warped him around his finger that day in Mayfair. While Eloise never quite forgot that moment either.
---
guys you should write this, I want to read it!!

Christmas Headcanon Time!!
(Otherwise known as holy shit, Puff's actually sharing stuff for once!!)
Ok let's get right to it–
- The Highschool Quadruple never fails to do a gift exchange between them each year. It's been a tradition amongst them since middle school and it's one of their favorite yearly activities. With Sakuya's joining of their group, they don't hesitate to include him even after they all find out the truth.
- Licht and Hyde have to bundle up to the nines to stay warm in the snow. If you catch them outside during winter, it's a safe bet to assume they have more than two layers under their expensive coats and cutesy scarfs/mittens/ear muffs.
- Both Mahiru and Mikuni share something in common when it's cold enough; Making hot cocoa from scratch.
For Mahiru, it's more for just to properly enjoy the drink at its fullest and the comfort it provides when it's homemade.
For Mikuni... Well. Mikuni just sticks his rich-boy nose up at the store-bought packaged stuff out of principle. He's picky about everything, from his tea to how his hot cocoa is made.
- As soon as it starts to snow, the Alicein Manor gets more and more festive by the day. It's an anticipated activity for the kids and staff to decorate the manor in as much Christmas stuff as they can. The lightshow they have is unbeatable and they're the type to put lights in the garden bushes.
The Alicein Family is a strict "White Christmas Lights" home. Of course there is plentiful gold, red and green decorations (and celebrations for the kiddos who don't celebrate Christmas) but the lights stay white.
- Mahiru also likes to decorate his apartment for the holidays. The apartment will be all red, green and gold and there's always a nice tree in the corner of the living room.
Mahiru is also a "White Lights" type of guy but he appreciates the colorful lights too.
Also he thought he didn't have to worry about Kuro doing Kitty Things but his hopes are dashed when he finds Kuro in the tree. Woe.
- Freya makes even more apple treats during the winter than usual, handing them out to everyone until they get tired of apples for a bit.
Has a big tree in the orchard she and her subclass dress up real pretty every year.
She strings the tree up with the colorful lights. She likes them a lot.
- TEAM MELANCHOLY LOVES HALLMARK MOVIES. I'm right. There is no debate. Tsubaki has a Hallmark subscription he renews every year just so they can sit down and watch (make fun of) the Christmas movies.
They don't admit it but they actually do like those movies. Team M are fans of both shitty and sappy movies. They thrive off of that shit www
- Sakuya always has a gift under Mahiru's tree every year since they've met. Usually a new rhythm game or a nice piece of clothing.
- ...Mahiru has gotten used to spending Christmas alone or, if they can convince him, with his friends. Tooru doesn't make it more often than not but there's always a present or two still waiting for him.
But now that he has Kuro and everyone else, he's not so lonely anymore!
- Lily also loves Hallmark movies and always makes Misono watch them with him, much to Misono's dismay.
- Post-war, the Eves take turns each year hosting Christmas parties. It's always a ton of fun and once they're all old enough, a couple of them are hungover the next morning and have to be carried by their Servamps.
Most of the time, Tsubaki is included in the hangover group.
- The year Gear and Youtarou visit Japan for Christmas and gift Mahiru a little vacuum is the year Kuro goes into despair.
- Kuro and Tsubaki's birthdays are always celebrated in full and the shift from Kuro's to Tsubaki's is immediate and honestly adorable. Likely happens at either Mahiru's or Misono's house.
Merry Early Christmas to all!!!

I’ve done as much hard physical labor in the past two weeks as I have at any other point in my life. Kept reminding myself that destruction or rather deconstruction is an act of creation. I was the first person to sign the walls in the green room: 8/7/2010 after “Little Shop of Horrors” and the last person to sign the wall after the 133rd and final production, “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” (singed after opening night 2/3/2024).
There were so many different types of shows and so many talented people to come and go over the years. Lifelong friendships forged, romances ignited, hearts broken, hearts mended.
Multiple Shakespeare and Molière plays; classic comedies like A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, Harvey, Arsenic & Old Lace, Blithe Spirit. Stirring dramas like 12 Angry Men, Inherit the Wind, Of Mice & Men, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Legendary musicals from Rocky Horror Show to Hello Dolly! and Sweeney Todd, Young Frankenstein, Threepenny Opera, A Nightmare Before Christmas.
I was lucky enough to direct the popular farce Noises Off! as well as write several original plays that I directed, including oringal stage adaptations of George Orwell’s “1984” and Dumas’ “The Three Musketeers”.
I got to play Mr. Darcy in another original stage adaptation of a literary classic, “Pride & Prejudice”. We also staged original adaptations of Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Dracula, Frankenstein, Night of the Living Dead, Snow White & the Seven Dwarves and so many more.
There were Christmas plays, summer reading program shows produced for the local library, family shows performed in the park, a series of cabaret shows with music and skits covering an array of topics from Cole Porter, The Beatles, 90s country music, 1940s/50s USO shows, and so on.
Over a half dozen playwrights premiered new plays, and dozens more original plays were produced. We hosted weddings, concerts, birthday parties, special screenings of films including a local film festival that celebrated films shot locally including Hope Floats, Tree of Life, and many smaller independent films and web series. We were a venue for a photography festival for several years. We hosted a recent HBO Production “Life & Death” when they filmed in town.
All that and more. But most importantly we’ve been a theatre and a family. And we will continue to be so. Just somewhere else now.

These destinations are a delight for epicureans
Check out my latest column
Editor’s note: Chris Bartlett, co-founder and co-host of Worth Tasting, contributed to this column.
With the New Year upon us, now is the time to plan those 2024 vacations. Here’s a destination to consider, especially for epicureans, those who are passionate about food and drink and unique culinary experiences.
Where beach meets city, and Bayshore Boulevard hugs Tampa Bay, the neighborhoods of Hyde Park Village and Soho (South of Howard Avenue) in Florida rise high like glittering sapphires. Two sparkling gems, shimmering with fantastic facets of art, culture, Southern hospitality and of course, culinary delights. It is here that comfortable walking shoes could be considered your greatest, easiest and most desirous method of transportation.
From the jaw-dropping Bayshore Estates to beautifully appointed and architecturally crafted bungalows, being on foot between the sleek Epicurean Hotel and Hyde Park Village is essential, if one cares to bathe in the magical coziness of both the inviting exteriors of the private homes and sublime commercial hub that punctuate the streets with sizzle and style.
It takes less than two minutes of moving about Soho and Hyde Park Village to know something special is in the air. Somehow, in an instant, life feels easier and friendlier here. A calming happiness seems to spill into its atmosphere.
The Epicurean Hotel at 1207 S. Howard Ave., https://bit.ly/4aCUJqA, was developed in collaboration with the legendary Bern’s Steak House across the street. The hotel’s food theme prevails throughout the property. Wooden sides of wine crates adorn the walls and ceiling at the wine-themed check-in desk. Of course, I was mesmerized by the sitting areas with bookshelves filled with vintage cookbooks available for sale, with proceeds going to a culinary scholarship fund.

Hundreds of handwritten recipe cards have been turned into a work of art in one of the dining rooms. The artwork throughout the property conveys one of four food themes: grow, create, imbibe and indulge. Even the light fixtures aside the room numbers are etched with food- and wine-related items.
When people think of resorts, they think of golf, spa and theme park resorts. Think of the Epicurean as a culinary resort, with the “theme park” being the world-famous Bern’s Steak House, right across the street.
Even a Christmas tree follows the culinary theme at the Epicurean. (Courtesy of Chris Bartlett)
Cooking and wine classes as well as meetings take place in the state-of-the-art tiered Epicurean Theatre. The late Bern Laxer strongly believed that in the business of food and wine, one must be a student for life.
Edge, the hotel’s rooftop bar, is the place to be to enjoy craft cocktails, wine, beer and small plates. It’s the perfect location for sunset views and taking in eclectic works of art.
The stunning Lobby Bar features chef inspired plates plus a cocktail program that showcases well-made classics, while highlighting creative signature offerings. The Elevage Burger is a fresh take on the classic with cheddar, bread and butter pickles topped with comeback sauce.
We are told the menus change seasonally; however one foodie-favorite dish remains on the Lobby Bar menu; the Homage to Bern’s (shaved ribeye, caramelized onion, Alpine cheese on focaccia), a nod to the Epicurean’s legendary neighbor, Bern’s Steak House.
At the Epicurean’s wine shop, sommeliers will help you find the most interesting wines, many not available in most wine shops. (Courtesy of Stephen Fries)
Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits is right off the lobby. How convenient! Bern’s Steak House has accumulated one of the largest, private collections of wines assembled in the world. Sommeliers will help you find the most interesting wines, many not available in most wine shops.
Across from the hotel’s entrance is Chill Bros. Scoop Shop. “At Epicurean, we’re all about food and fun, so we’re thrilled to partner with Chill Bros., whose dedication to quality mixes so sweetly with ours,” said the Epicurean’s general manager, Shawn Routen.
Throughout my stay I was eyeing the featured flavors, Malty Millionaire (velvety vanilla malt ice cream filled with bite size millionaire’s shortbread squares and thick swirls of salted caramel), and Apple Pie (cinnamon vanilla ice cream, homemade apple butter, Granny Smith apples cooked to perfection with brown sugar, flakey homemade pie crust sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.) Which would be your choice? Perhaps both . . . need sampling!
Evangeline, the on-site full-service spa, offers a recipe for relaxation with a delectable variety of treatments. The epicurean theme extends here with treatments such as “Champagne Tub & Table for Two,” “Crushed Cabernet Body Treatment,” “Hot Whiskey Scour Massage,” “Bern’s Bourbon on the Rocks Foot Treatment” and what I indulged in, the ”Dulce Delight Body Wrap,” which began with a coffee salt exfoliant of Arabica bean extract that energizes, exfoliates and soothes dry skin.
Then, a full- body, dark-chocolate mask was applied before I was wrapped in a cocoon enhancing absorption and detoxification. After showering off, a sweet cream milk body massage completed the “feast” for the body.
Dinner at Elevage SOHO Kitchen & Bar, the hotel’s restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch, is headed up by Executive Chef Jonathan Atanacio. As the restaurant website states, “Whether you want to call them epicureans, foodies or gourmands, we’re crafting dining experiences that speak to lovers of life’s great flavors.” We can attest to those flavors with the dinner savored. The pumpkin soup poured tableside incorporated apple, quince, and sage. The pickled beets, served with arugula, feta cheese and cucumber is drizzled with a delicate, red wine vinaigrette. The creative preparation of the roasted Chilean seabass (figs, sunchoke, turnip, pearl onion, apple brown butter) lives up to the quote above with flavors so well-orchestrated.
The Mediterranean Caesar Salad bursts with flavor and color. The Diver Sea Scallops are accompanied with chestnut risotto, kalettes, leeks and just enough tasso butter to tantalize the palate. To top off this epicurean experience, was the Fall Harvest Cobbler (apple, fig, pear, dates, topped with peanut brittle ice cream) and the Flourless Chocolate Brownie adorned with peanut butter swirl ice cream and peanut brittle chocolate sauce. Wine connoisseurs will appreciate the all-encompassing wine list. It is “approachable to the wallet” Atanacio said. Scotch and whiskies number well over 100.
A previous guest described the lobby of the legendary Bern’s Steakhouse as “Harry Potter meets luxury brothel.” (Courtesy of Chris Bartlett)
Eating dinner at Bern’s Steak House is a dining experience like no other. This is a place where the book does not look like the cover . . . Upon entering, you are taken back in time. A previous guest described the lobby as “Harry Potter meets luxury brothel.”
Caviar lovers will be impressed with the 16 choices. If you can’t find a cut of beef to your liking, you won’t find it anywhere. If beef isn’t your thing, there is poultry and seafood. Steak entrees include French onion soup au gratin, steak house salad, baked potato, onion rings and vegetable tasting of the evening, quite often from Bern’s farm.
Soup Trio (photo: Chris Bartlett)
I upgraded to the Soup Tasting: a trio of French onion, vichyssoise and lobster bisque. The petit filet mignon, the “turf” of the Surf & Turf was cooked to perfection, a treat for me since I rarely eat beef. I thought, if I was going to enjoy a steak, it had to be here. The “surf” was blackened Day Boat scallops.
My dining partner savored the lump crab cake, chock full of tender crab surrounded by a splash of Green Goddess. An entrée of roasted snapper was accompanied by potato puree, Hen-of-the-Woods (mushrooms), and arugula, topped with white truffle beurre blanc.
Oenophiles will be in paradise with an almost 200-page wine list. Bern’s has 500,000-plus bottles and 6,500 unique labels. Guests can also choose from 150 wines by the glass starting at $10 to a $30,000 bottle. The cellar is one of the most respected and largest collections in the world. After dinner, guests are offered a tour of the massive kitchen and wine cellars. We were given a tour of the meat aging room as well.
Peanut Butter Truffle (photo: Chris Bartlett)
And then it was off to the Harry Waugh Dessert Room, one of the most famous and popular aspects of Bern’s. I was in heaven, with more than 50 house-made desserts to choose from with more than 1,000 dessert wines and spirits plus creative, specialty coffee drinks. The dessert room was built as a tribute to Harry Waugh, an internationally known and respected wine connoisseur, director of Chateau Latour and good friend to Laxer. California redwood wine holding tanks were used to create private booths. You have to see it to believe it. I indulged with the banana cheese pie, a banana cream cheese mousse in an almond praline crust with fresh bananas and whipped cream. The recipe, which has not changed, dates to 1956, and was one of Laxer’s favorites. The server didn’t have to talk me into trying the Macadamia Nut Ice Cream. This secret recipe was developed by Laxer. He tested and retested the formula hundreds of times before he was satisfied with the results — a sweet, creamy ice cream with buttered, roasted macadamia nuts. Our other dessert, peanut butter and chocolate, a match made in heaven, shone in the Peanut Butter Truffle (Oreo brownie, crunchy peanut butter, peanut butter mousse, caramel milk chocolate mousse, with a generous scoop of peanut butter fudge swirl ice cream). This dessert extravaganza was the crème de la crème!
Everything about Forbici Modern Italian says welcome, and exudes a European charm, from the casual yet modern space to the fresh approach to the most beloved, Italian classics — think scrumptious, house-made pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and salads. This place has character. And it has super-approachable twists on each of these classics thanks to the vision and understanding of fundamental recipes that Executive Chef Raymond Ortiz applies to the creation of each new dish. In his desire to keep things fresh, Ortiz features six new recipes (a pizza, pasta, protein, salad, sandwich and dessert) monthly both to excite his team and to delight his family of customers. From expertly prepared and served fried calamari to the Cup and Char pizza (dough takes three days to be ready and is cut using special scissors, forbici in Italian), we reveled in one taste sensation after another. Beautifully sauced, steamed mussels — so great we wanted to slurp it. Luscious meatballs that were tender, yet flavor packed. The FGT salad (fried green tomato) left us craving for more, that good, and a creative approach for a salad. The most moist and soft textured Lemon Olive Oil Cake ever swept our taste buds far away to Italy, where dining alfresco is one of life’s richest pleasures. And on that sweet note, we bid Chef Raymond, “ciao” as we made our way onto a day made better from the joy and passion we experienced for food and hospitality at Forbici Modern Italian.

From The Salty (a must!) for an exquisitely tantalizing donut (think decadence) to Oddfellows Ice Cream (Yes, the flavor combinations are that unusual, but amazing) to Buddy Brew (the coffee roaster has a social mission called “Brew Good, Do Good”).
The Salty, for an exquisitely tantalizing donuts (Courtesy of Stephen Fries)
Hyde Park feels like it has an eternal spring of culinary spots popping up for bites, beverages and specialty treats any time of day. While busily walking both to and from our main meals, we couldn’t help ourselves from stopping by to give at least one thing from each place a try.
Oddfellows Ice Cream, where the flavor combinations are creative and is the perfect treat on a warm day. (Courtesy of Stephen Fries)
The Hyppo, creates an array of super-fresh ice pops using every fruit and flavor imaginable. Not only are they visually bursting with vibrant colors, but your taste buds will thank you for the delectable treat. A culinary-merchandise market stop-by at Fig & Julep (one of the best we’ve ever shopped) proved to be a delight. So worth a visit. They have a remarkable, curated collection of local, regional, and national food products from honey to tea, maple syrup to phenomenal soup blends. Truly something special for any foodie.
Finding ourselves needing something to nosh on between meals, we opted to try a freshly made Caprese Panini at Sweet Sorrento. And while it was exactly what we wanted — tasty and like we’ve had in Italy, it took willpower to forgo the menagerie of homemade Italian desserts that was staring out at us.
Mid-afternoon heat drove us into CineBistro for a showing of the 1980s classic film “Planes, Trains & Automobiles.” The elegant theater, complete with a huge, quintessential lobby bar, and eight cinemas, offers in-seat delivery of everything from their full libations and extensive food menus. This place is classy. A fun, tasty and unique experience.
Needing a break from eating, we found ourselves quickly swept up in all the hubbub going on over at The CandlePour. It’s truly exciting and engaging to experience candle making from the focal point of creating “ones unique essential oil blend” then using it to infuse the scent and final aroma the candle will emit. We cannot express how much fun this was. A do not miss stop.
Interestingly, we found ourselves at Goody Goody (a classic diner and part of Tampa’s culinary history), not once, but three times. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert are all delicious, fresh and plentiful. The flashback theme and servers both give the place a charm and warmth that’s also reminiscent of simpler, happier times, when local, community life meant everything to its people, and gathering at the table fostered good relationships.
With a seemingly endless number of interesting food establishments and diverse restaurants, here are a few that “got away this time” but are high on the list for our next visit. We skipped Bar Taco despite being fans, simply because we’ve enjoyed it before, and in other cities. The Italian Steakhouse, Timpano, was always bustling and had quite the elegant appeal. Since we were already going to Bern’s Steakhouse, it simply was a no-go this time. We were unable to fit in a visit to Haven, the newest member of the Bern’s family, specializing in the concept of crafted, cultured and cellared. From what was mentioned, the menu features fresh, approachable cuisine and a diverse beverage program. The “newish” Meat Market Steakhouse Tampa looks to be very hip and happening with a great crowd, and menu, but we needed one more day in the neighborhood to make it there. The popular On Swann piqued our interest from our first stroll by, with its inviting, minimalist-bistro space. Both the thoughtful lunch and dinner menus would be incredible to eat-our-way-through each subsequent visit.
The sophisticated and delectable looking Ro, with an exquisite, Japanese/Asian menu featuring sushi, sashimi and Korean BBQ, appears to be where we need to eat on our very next night in the neighborhood.

A Fairyland Yule
Ao3 link here A Fairyland Yule - Chapter 3 - Princessmh9 - Original Work [Archive of Our Own]
Chapter 3 A Reunion in Fairyland
{Acorn, the loyal Brownie, continued to scan the surroundings of Hyde Park, his tiny wings fluttering as he searched for any sign of a Fairy Ring. The park was shrouded in the quiet beauty of the winter night, with lampposts casting a warm, inviting glow. As Acorn scoured the area, he couldn't help but feel a sense of urgency. Time was running out, and the desire to reunite Bella with her long-lost sister, Genevieve, burned in his heart. He knew that Yule was fast approaching, and it was the perfect time for such a magical reunion.
With determination in his eyes, Acorn continued his search, hoping that the park might hold the key to bridging the gap between the human world and the enchanting realm of Fairyland. He whispered a silent prayer to the spirits of the park, asking for their guidance in this quest.}
{Acorn} Please, let there be a Fairy Ring here. Bella's heart aches for her sister, and I must find a way to make their reunion possible.
{With renewed determination, Acorn pressed on, his tiny form a beacon of hope in the wintry night. As Acorn continued his search through Hyde Park, he noticed a faint, shimmering glow near a cluster of ancient oak trees. His heart quickened with hope as he fluttered closer, his keen Brownie senses picking up on the presence of magic.}
{Acorn} Could it be? A Fairy Ring?
{With cautious excitement, Acorn circled the area, examining the ground carefully. There, beneath a blanket of fallen leaves and frost-kissed grass, he spotted the telltale ring of mushrooms. It was a small, unassuming circle, but to Acorn, it held the promise of reuniting two sisters. Acorn wasted no time. With a tiny, thankful chirp to the spirits of the park, he began to recite the incantation passed down through generations of Brownies. The air around the Fairy Ring shimmered with energy as the portal between worlds began to open.
{Acorn} May this path of magic lead to a heartwarming reunion.
{The portal hummed softly, and a gentle breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers and ancient forests. Acorn knew that the way to Fairyland was now open, and he felt a deep sense of satisfaction. Bella would have the opportunity to reconnect with her sister, and the magic of Yule would shine brightly in their lives. With a triumphant smile, Acorn fluttered back to the lamp post, ready to deliver the wonderful news to Bella and begin the next step of their heartwarming journey. Back at the mansion Bella was tucking in her son Thedore into bed.}
{Thedore} Mama how much longer till Father Christmas comes mother?
{Bella} Not much longer, my dear. Father Christmas will be here very soon. You've been a good boy all year, and I'm sure he has something special for you.
{Thedore's eyes sparkled with excitement as he clutched his favorite stuffed animal close. It was a worn and well-loved teddy bear, its fur once a deep, rich brown now faded with age. The bear had a few patches sewn onto its arms and a missing button eye, but to Thedore, it was the most precious toy in the world.}
{Thedore} I can't wait, Mama. I hope he brings me a shiny toy soldier like the one in the store window.
{Bella leaned down and kissed her son's forehead.}
{Bella} I have a feeling he just might, my love. Now, close your eyes and have sweet dreams. Father Christmas will be here before you know it.
{She blows out the candle and walks to the door and smiles softly as she closes the door. Casper her husband looks at her.}
{Casper} Is he asleep?
{Bella} Yes, finally. He's so excited about Father Christmas.
{Casper} He's a good lad, always full of wonder and joy.
{Bella nodded, her thoughts drifting back to her sisters.}
{Bella} Casper, have you ever wondered about my sisters, especially Genevieve?
{Casper} {pausing} Bella, we've been through this. You know Genevieve was always a bit...different. Running off with that Elf Prince and talking about fairies and magic. It was for the best that she's not here to influence our son.
{Bella} {softly} But she's family, Casper. She's still my sister, and I miss her.
{Casper} {sighing} Bella, you have a family here, with me and Thedore. Our life is here, in London.
{Bella} {whispering} Sometimes, I wish I could see her again, just to know she's safe.
{Casper} Bella its best not to wish those things my dear. Just forget about her and think about being the best wife you can to me and the best mother to Thedore and think about the best future for him.
{Bella} {softly} I know, Casper. You're right. Our family is here, and I should focus on that. I just...sometimes I can't help but wonder about her.
{Casper} {smiling} That's my Bella, always with a caring heart. Now, let's get some rest. Tomorrow is another busy day.
{Bella nodded, extinguishing the last candle in the room, and the couple settled into their bed, their thoughts turning to their son and the joys and challenges of their life in London. As she slept through the night the clock in the living room chimed twelve o clock when Acorn flew into the house. Acorn fluttered through the open window, casting a soft, glowing light in the room. He gently landed on the bedside table, careful not to wake Bella and Casper. With a sense of urgency and excitement, he began to softly whisper Bella's name.}
{Acorn} Bella... Bella...
{Bella stirred in her sleep, her dreams filled with memories of her long-lost sister Genevieve and the enchanting world of Fairyland.}
{Acorn} Bella, wake up. It's time.
{Bella slowly opened her eyes, still half-asleep, and saw the tiny Brownie hovering by her bedside.}
{Bella, groggily} Acorn? What is it?
{Acorn} I found it, Bella. I found a Fairy Ring in Hyde Park. We can create a portal to Fairyland and reunite you with Genevieve.
{Bella's eyes widened with a mix of excitement and disbelief. Could it really be true? She had longed to see her sister again for so long.}
{Bella, with hope in her voice} Are you sure, Acorn?
{Acorn} Positive. We must hurry, though. Yule is almost here, and this is our chance.
{Bella nodded, her heart pounding with anticipation. She couldn't believe that this moment had finally come.}
{Bella, whispering} Thank you, Acorn. Let's go to Hyde Park and create that portal.
{She carefully got out of bed and quietly got into her winter dress and put her bonnet on her head and tied it up under chin before putting some gloves on. She then quietly put her boots on and with great care stepped out of the room carefully not to wake Casper or her brothers and sister or the rest of the family. She walked down into the kitchen and pulled out a lantern and lit it before carefully walking through the house. Bella moved silently through the quiet house; every step calculated to avoid waking anyone. The lantern in her hand cast a warm, flickering glow as she made her way through the darkened rooms. The memories of her childhood home and the life she had built with Casper and their son, Theodore, flooded her mind. But her heart was set on reuniting with her sister, Genevieve, in the enchanting realm of Fairyland. As she stepped outside into the cold London night, her breath visible in the frosty air, Bella's determination shone in her eyes. The promise of a long-awaited reunion spurred her forward. Hyde Park awaited, and with it, the opportunity to bridge the gap between her world and the magical realm her sister now called home. Bella walked briskly through the empty streets of London, her lantern casting a small pool of light around her. The city that had been bustling with holiday preparations earlier now slumbered under the quiet blanket of night. Her journey had a purpose, a goal that filled her heart with hope and determination.
Hyde Park, with its vast green spaces and ancient trees, was her destination. It was in this park, under the pale moonlight, that Bella hoped to find the elusive Fairy Ring—a portal that would lead her to her sister and the enchanting world of Fairyland. As she reached the park's entrance, the wrought-iron gates stood ajar, inviting her inside. The crunch of frosty leaves beneath her boots and the distant hoot of an owl were the only sounds that broke the silence. Bella moved deeper into the park, guided by an inner compass that drew her closer to her destiny. Her breath hung in the frigid air as she continued her search, lantern held high. Bella knew that this quest was not without its risks and uncertainties, but the bond between sisters was a powerful force, one that could bridge the gap between two worlds.
With each step she took, Bella's heartbeat with a mixture of hope, love, and the unwavering determination to reunite her family and bring back the magic that had been lost. The Fairy Ring, hidden somewhere in the heart of Hyde Park, held the key to her sister's world, and Bella was determined to find it, no matter the challenges that lay ahead. As Bella ventured deeper into the park, the familiar landmarks of Hyde Park became transformed in the moonlight. The ancient trees seemed to reach out with gnarled branches like silent sentinels guarding their secrets. Shadows danced beneath the moon's glow, casting eerie, shifting patterns on the frozen ground. Bella's lantern illuminated the path before her, casting a warm and comforting light in the midst of the winter night's chill. She couldn't help but think about Genevieve and how her sister had always been drawn to the magic of the unknown, to the enchantment of the Fairyland. The air grew colder, and Bella's breath formed misty clouds in front of her. She knew she had to be vigilant and keep her senses sharp.}
{Bella} Ok Acorn where is this Fairy Ring.
{Acorn, perched on a nearby branch, looked around and then pointed with his tiny leaf-like hand towards a grove of ancient oak trees. There, in the soft moonlight, Bella could make out the faint glow of mystical energy, forming a circular pattern on the ground.}
{Acorn} There it is, Bella. The Fairy Ring. But be cautious, for this is a bridge between worlds, and it holds both magic and danger. Approach it with care. And whatever you do don’t eat or drink any food.
{Bella nodded, her heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. She approached the Fairy Ring slowly, step by step, her lantern held high. The air around her seemed to hum with a strange energy as she crossed the threshold of the magical circle. And then, as if the world itself shifted around her, Bella found herself transported into a realm unlike any she had ever imagined. The colors were more vibrant, the air filled with an otherworldly fragrance, and the trees seemed to whisper secrets of ages past. Bella had entered the Fairyland, and her quest to reunite with her sister Genevieve had just taken a remarkable turn.
As Bella turned to look back at the Fairy Ring from within the enchanting realm of Fairyland, she noticed that the mystical circle had transformed. What had once been a faint, shimmering glow on the ground now pulsed with a radiant energy, casting a soft, ethereal light that danced like fireflies in the night. It was as if the Fairy Ring had come to life, responding to her presence and guiding her on her journey. The ancient oaks that surrounded the circle seemed to lean in closer, their gnarled branches forming a natural archway that framed the magical portal. For a moment, Bella hesitated, her thoughts filled with the memories of her sister, Genevieve, and the family she had left behind in London. But the pull of the unknown and the hope of reuniting with her beloved sister urged her forward.
With determination in her heart, Bella took a deep breath and stepped further into the wondrous realm of Fairyland, ready to embark on her extraordinary adventure. Bella walked carefully through the wintery woods of Fairyland, her lantern casting a warm and inviting glow in the midst of the enchanted forest. The towering trees, adorned with glistening frost, seemed to whisper secrets to one another as they rustled in the gentle breeze. As she ventured deeper into the woods, the air became crisp and filled with the scent of pine and snow. The ground was blanketed in a soft layer of pristine white, and Bella's boots left a trail of footprints behind her. Every so often, she would catch a glimpse of mystical creatures darting among the trees— mischievous pixies, graceful sprites, and elusive wood nymphs. They watched her with curious eyes but kept their distance, as if aware of her quest.
The quiet town of Enchanted Forest lay before Bella, its cobblestone streets illuminated by the soft glow of streetlamps. The houses, adorned with ivy and twinkling fairy lights, exuded a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. As Bella walked through the slumbering town, she couldn't help but marvel at the quaint beauty that surrounded her. It was as if time stood still in this Enchanting place, where magic danced in every corner. She passed by charming shops with whimsical displays, each window showcasing unique and intricate wares. The aroma of freshly baked pastries and the sweet scent of blooming flowers wafted through the air, creating a sensory tapestry that was both comforting and magical. In the distance, the regal silhouette of Oberon and Titania's castle stood as a beacon of hope. Its turrets and towers reached towards the starlit sky, a testament to the enduring magic that thrived within its walls.
Bella's heartbeat with anticipation as she drew closer to the castle, her footsteps echoing softly on the cobblestones. She knew that her journey was just beginning, and the challenges ahead would be many. But in that moment, surrounded by the beauty and wonder of Fairyland, she felt a renewed sense of purpose and determination to find her sister and bring her back to the family that loved her.}
...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
{Kendra, the head of the Royal Guards, moved gracefully through the corridors of the castle, her once-silver armor now an unexpected mint green hue. She had been the unwitting target of one of Puck's mischievous spells earlier, and despite her efforts, she hadn't been able to reverse the enchantment. As she made her rounds, Kendra couldn't help but notice the curious looks and stifled giggles from her fellow guards. She maintained her composure, her expression as stoic as ever, but inside, she couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration. The sun would soon rise, casting its gentle light over the kingdom and dispelling the darkness of the night. As she walked down the hall where the nursery was, she couldn’t help but open the door and cheek in on the Princess. With gentle and practiced hands, Kendra approached the cradle where Princess Elara lay sleeping. The soft rays of the rising sun filtered through the window, casting a warm and gentle light upon the room. It was a peaceful moment, one that reminded Kendra of the beauty of the kingdom and the importance of her role as a guardian.
As she gazed down at the slumbering infant, Kendra couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. Elara, with her tiny features and innocent expression, represented the future of the kingdom. She was a symbol of hope and the continuation of the royal lineage. Kendra reached down and carefully tucked the blanket around Elara, ensuring that the little one would remain warm and comfortable. She knew that the nursery was a place of safety and love, and she took her duty to protect the young princess very seriously. With a soft smile, Kendra whispered a silent blessing for the sleeping child. As she turned to leave something caught her eye at the window. She walks up and looks out to the snow covered garden and there in the garden was someone with a lantern. She pulled her sword out and quietly rushed out of the nursery ready to face the intruder.
Kendra, her heart pounding with a mixture of vigilance and concern, quietly exited the nursery, sword in hand. She moved swiftly and silently through the castle's corridors, her years of training as a member of the royal guard guiding her every step. Her senses were sharp, and her eyes scanned the dimly lit hallways for any sign of the intruder. As she reached the main entrance of the castle, she saw the figure in the garden more clearly. It was a woman, dressed in a winter gown and holding a lantern, moving cautiously through the snow-covered landscape. The woman's face was partially hidden by a bonnet, but her intent seemed mysterious and potentially suspicious. Kendra approached the woman with a blend of caution and authority. With her sword at the ready, she stepped out into the garden, her voice firm but not unkind.}
{Kendra} Who goes there? Identify yourself and state your purpose for being in the castle grounds at this hour.
{The cold air hung in silence for a moment as Kendra awaited a response from the stranger.}
{Bella} Kendra it's me Belladonna.
{Kendra in shock} Lady Belladonna.
{Kendra, her eyes wide with surprise, quickly sheathed her sword and approached Bella with a mix of relief and curiosity.}
{Kendra} Lady Belladonna, what brings you to the castle at this hour? It's quite unusual to see you here.
{Bella} I came here to see Genevieve. It is vital I see her.
{Kendra} I am sorry, but Princess Genevieve is asleep with her husband Prince Ash
{Bella} It's imperative that I speak with her, Kendra. Please, I beg you, find a way to wake her. It's a matter of utmost importance.
{Kendra hesitated for a moment, understanding the urgency in Bella's voice.}
{Kendra's gaze held a flicker of determination as she addressed Lady Belladonna.}
{Kendra} Very well, Lady Belladonna. I shall employ all my skill to rouse Princess Genevieve, but it is imperative that we maintain the utmost discretion. Kindly tread softly and follow my lead.
{With a practiced fluidity, Kendra guided Belladonna through the moonlit castle gardens, their footsteps muffled by the snow-covered ground. The air was crisp, and the night held a hushed stillness as they maneuvered through hidden passageways known only to the most adept of the castle's inhabitants. As they slipped through shadowed corridors, Kendra's knowledge of the castle's layout proved invaluable. Eventually, they arrived at a secluded waiting room reserved for those seeking an audience with the monarchs.
{Kendra, gesturing towards the room} Wait here, Lady Belladonna. I will retrieve Princess Genevieve and Prince Ash promptly.
Kendra left the room, her departure leaving Belladonna to survey her surroundings in wide-eyed wonder. The room, adorned with regal tapestries and plush furnishings, emanated an air of timeless elegance. Moonlight filtered through ornate curtains, casting a gentle glow on the room's intricate details.
Bella, her fingers lightly brushing against a finely embroidered tapestry, marveled at the opulence of the royal waiting chamber. The flickering candlelight created dancing shadows on the walls, and the quiet whispers of a distant breeze added a subtle symphony to the room. The weight of her urgent mission momentarily lifted as she found herself captivated by the beauty that surrounded her.
In the quietude of the chamber, Bella awaited Kendra's return, her thoughts swirling with anticipation and the gravity of the message she carried. Little did she know, the fate of the kingdom teetered on the precipice of revelation, hidden behind the veiled curtains of the royal waiting room.}
{Kendra exited the room, swiftly traversing the castle corridors with purpose, en route to the chambers occupied by Ash and Genevieve. Her hurried steps echoed softly in the dimly lit passageways. Upon reaching the entrance to their quarters, she entered with practiced stealth.
Inside the chambers, the subdued glow of the early morning light revealed a scene of tranquility. Princess Genevieve lay sound asleep, her head resting on Ash's chest, his protective embrace enveloping her in a cocoon of love. The room exuded an aura of serenity, with the warmth of their shared affection palpable in the air.
Kendra approached the sleeping couple with a careful reverence, acknowledging the tenderness that radiated from their entwined forms. As she stood by the bedside, she leaned in and whispered, her voice barely audible in the peaceful stillness of the room.}
{Kendra} Princess Genevieve, Prince Ash, forgive the intrusion, but Lady Belladonna is here with an urgent matter.
{Genevieve stirred, slowly opening her eyes and blinking away sleep. Ash, too, began to wake, their expressions transitioning from sleepiness to alertness as they registered the unusual situation}
{Genevieve, her voice groggy} Kendra, what's the matter?
{Kendra} My apologies for the disturbance, Princess Genevieve, but Lady Belladonna has urgent business that requires your attention.
{Genevieve sat bolt upright in shock.}
{Genevieve} Bella? She here? But how? She should be in London with the rest of the family?
{Ash, also taken aback, spoke with concern} It's strange that Bella would be here at this hour. Something must be urgent for her to make such a journey.
{Genevieve} We should go and find out. She's my sister, Ash, and if she's here unexpectedly, we should make sure she's safe and find out what's going on.
{Without further delay, Genevieve and Ash hastily got out of bed and rushed out of the room and headed down the corridor toward the main entrance of the fairy castle. As they approached the entrance, they were greeted by Kendra.}
{Kendra, her voice hushed} My apologies for disturbing you, Your Highnesses. Lady Belladonna arrived unexpectedly, and I thought it best to inform you.
{Genevieve} You did the right thing, Kendra. We were just coming to check on her. Do you know why she's here?
{Kendra} She requested to see you and mentioned it was urgent, but I didn't pry further, Your Highness. She's in the waiting chamber just off the main hall.
{Ash} Thank you, Kendra. We'll go to her right away.
{Kendra nodded respectfully, and Genevieve and Ash made their way to the waiting chamber, their hearts filled with concern for Bella and the mystery surrounding her unexpected visit.
{As Genevieve and Ash opened the door and entered the room Genevieve gasped as she saw Bella standing there with tears in her eyes as she rushed up to hug her.}
{Bella} Genevieve, my dear sister!
{Bella's voice was filled with emotion as she embraced Genevieve tightly. Tears welled up in both their eyes as they held each other, a long-awaited reunion that carried with it a mix of joy and sorrow.}
{Genevieve, her voice trembling} Bella, what are you doing here? Is everything alright with you and the family in London?
{Bella pulled back as she looked at Genevieve}
{Bella} Genevieve Christmas doesn't feel the same without you. And what's worse, instead of talking about you everyone just wants to forget you. Even Mother and Father have gone and removed you in all the pictures.
{Genevieve's heart sank at Bella's words. She could hardly believe that her family was trying to erase her from their memories and their home. The pain of being forgotten and pushed aside by her own family was almost too much to bear.}
{Genevieve, her voice filled with sadness} Bella, I never wanted to bring shame or sadness to our family. I followed my heart and my destiny, but I never wanted to be forgotten. I love you all so much, and it hurts to know that you're trying to forget me. But please understand, my place is here in Fairyland now, with Ash and Elara. I can't change the path I've chosen.
{Genevieve reached out and took Bella's hands in her own, holding them tightly.}
{Bella} Come home for one more Christmas. Bring Ash and your daughter with you.
{Bella's request tugged at Genevieve's heartstrings. The thought of reuniting with her family, even for a short while, was a powerful pull. But she knew the importance of her commitment to Ash and their own budding family.}
{Genevieve, gently} Bella, I understand how much this means to you, and it means the world to me that you want me there. But Yule is a special time here in Fairyland, and it's Elara's first one. I want to be with Ash and celebrate as a family. It's a promise we made to each other.
{She looked into Bella's eyes, her own filled with a mixture of love and longing.
{Genevieve} I want you to understand, Bella. My heart aches to be with you all, but I also have a responsibility here, to my husband and our daughter. Please, try to understand.
{Bella looks away sadly as Genevieve starts to think. She turns to look at Ash.}
{Genevieve} Ash how many suns is it now till Yule?
{Ash thinks for a moment}
{Ash} It's just three suns away, my love. Why do you ask?
{Genevieve thinking} Maybe we can go with you on Yule Eve for the day Bella and then return for the celebration here at night.
{Ash looks away}
{Genevieve} Ash, I know you really want to spend our first Yule together as a married couple but also as a family.
{Ash smiles warmly and nods.}
{Ash} Genevieve, I want to see you happy, and I know how much your family means to you. If it's important to you, then it's important to me. We can spend Yule Eve with your family in London and then return for the celebration here at night. Elara will get to meet her relatives, and we'll make it a memorable first Yule for her.
{Genevieve hugs him tightly, her eyes shining with gratitude.}
{Genevieve} Thankyou my love. I really appreciate that.
{Ash} And this time I make sure they won't drag you off to an Asylum.
{Genevieve chuckles softly, leaning in to kiss Ash.}
{Genevieve} I'm not going anywhere without you and Elara. We're a family, and we'll face whatever comes together.
{Bella crying and hugging her sister} Thank you so much Genevieve.
{Genevieve hugs her sister back tightly.}
{Genevieve} Of course, Bella. Now do you need me to take you back to a Fairy Ring?
{Bella} No I be ok. I know where the ring is and how to get there.
{Genevieve} Very well, Bella. Take care on your journey, and we'll see you soon.
{Bella} Thank you, Genevieve. Give my love to Ash and little Elara.
{With one final embrace, Bella heads back into the cold night, disappearing into the darkness as she makes her way to the Fairy Ring that will take her back to London. Genevieve and Ash walk back to their chambers as Ash looks at her worried.}
{Ash} Genevieve love are you ok?
{Genevieve} I'm fine, my love. It's just... seeing Bella here, it stirred up so many memories and emotions. But I am also worried about my family. I mean I am reviling my magic heritage to them. And they don’t believe you are real. And what if they try to take Elara away from us?
{Ash} I understand your concerns, Genevieve. It's natural to worry about how your family will react to all of this. But remember, we'll be there together, as a family, to explain everything to them. And as for Elara, no one will take her away from us. We'll make sure of that.
{He gently strokes her hair, trying to soothe her worries.}
{Ash} Just have faith in us and in your family's love. Everything will work out.
{They both get into bed, and Genevieve cuddles up to Ash, finding comfort in his presence.}
{Genevieve} Thank you, Ash. You always know how to reassure me.
{She snuggles closer to him, feeling the warmth of his love and the security of their bond. As they drift off to sleep, their hearts are filled with hope and anticipation for the upcoming Yule celebrations and their journey to reunite with Genevieve's family.}
{Genevieve} I love you, Ash.
{Ash} And I love you, Genevieve. Always and forever.
{They share a loving kiss before the dreams of Yule and family fill their thoughts.}

london 6th december
As today’s weather promised to be the best we were likely to see in the foreseeable future, we decided to take a trip up to Camden Town to visit the market, somewhere in London I had not been before. The walk from the station, though, offered a familiar view of touristic gimmicks and souvenir shops reminiscent of a seaside town, delightfully tacky. This theme continued across the waters of the canal in the market itself, awash with all the usual mass-produced trinkets. Every now and then the pattern was broken by a shopfront of genuine independence—vinyl and CDs, vintage clothes, original designs. It was the structure itself, with its narrow walkways and kitschy atmosphere, which gave it charm. It was only just around midday but the market was heaving.
There was a reason I wanted to come to Camden, however, and it was not just to see all the same tat and oddities I remember from the Queen Vic Market at home transposed to brick backyards by the Lock. For years I have imagined visiting one particular shop located here—the Moomin shop, tucked away in one of the quieter laneways where the cobblestone was clean and the crowd had yet to spread. I was surprised it was so quiet, when in my mind this had been the market’s prime destination. The Tove Jansson-themed store boasted Moomin everything—Moomin toys, Moomin crockery, Moomin chocolate, Moomin clothes, of course Moomin books. If I lived in London and could visit this shop every week, I think my home would quickly become overrun with Moomins. As it was I settled for a Moomin plate and matching spoon and fork, and a beautiful hardcover copy of Jansson’s Moominland Midwinter, to remember this dark and cold time of year I bought it in by.
For lunch the market offered an international array of street dishes, its food courts steadily becoming the busiest spots as the day wore on and people began to get hungry. I already knew where I meant to go—I made a carefully pre-researched selection of falafels, served with hummus and salad and pickles and tahini and shared with Mum. The falafels themselves were crispy with a moist and flavoursome chickpea middle, as good as any I have tried elsewhere. For only nine pound fifty in total, it was good value for money.
In the early afternoon we walked from Camden Market along the canal, past barges and repurposed industrial sites, all the way to King’s Cross, a very bleak but beautiful area that seemed to me a kind of fantasy steampunk setting so detached from the rest of the city. A school of design and great towers of apartments and offices have taken root amongst the skeletons of the desolate workman’s world which used to exist there; it was peaceful but contrived. It was around now we managed to catch a few proper glimpses of the sun since it was a clear day. Already halfway to the horizon, it coloured the autumn-leaf trees.
From King’s Cross we took the Victoria Line back to Oxford Circus, where we were flung headfirst into another form of vivacious tourist shopping. Oxford St, as well as the halls of Liberty and Selfridges, was suffocating in Christmas. The wooden archways of Liberty’s highest level were covered in string lights which illuminated the decoration collection, while Selfridges offered a more unique take with its tree made up of bright green designer clothes. In the Selfridges foodhall we purchased a small wedge of black truffle cheddar and a box of crisp sourdough crackers and added them to our spoils of the day.
Homewards-bound we waited in the cold by Marble Arch for a while longer than perhaps necessary for a bus home, but we had the front two seats on the second level of the double-decker, so it was worth it. As we drove along Hyde Park, in the heart of which we spotted the gleaming big top and thrill rides of the Christmas fairground, became a dark wall silhouetted on our right side, and the streets were in shadow by the time we made it to Notting Hill Gate. We ate ready-made pastas in the evening and went to bed quietly—maybe the strain of travel was catching up a little, I didn’t have many words except for the ones I had energy to write. But I was happy that I had finally been able to visit the Moomin shop. It had been on my mind for a long time.

saint where is my 2k drabble ?
The night had come on quickly with the tedium of the car ride, a quiet journey during which he was accompanied only by the drone of the engine and the disembodied chatter of the radio cutting in and out of static. Ijichi murmured something every once in a while- largely irrelevant blather on the weather, the current state of the stock market (of which Satoru was already well acquainted- Nippon and Daikin had both their edges trailing in decline), or commentary on the recent accomplishments of the Yomiuri Giants on the pitch.
For the most part, Satoru turned to mindlessly scrolling through his fifteen pages of unread emails and messages, each urgently blinking icon left calculatedly unaddressed. If there was anything truly urgent to contend with, he was sure it would be brought up during his impending meeting with Yaga. There was nothing particularly riveting about the notion of giving his bimonthly report; which would in the end, likely amount to very little. His complaints, after all, were routinely ignored; the higher-ups generally unsympathetic to the plight of one they deemed both belligerent and recalcitrant.
Which was to say, any meeting he was invited to attend was predictably an outright bore.
There was something to be said about fate’s fickle nature. Indeed, her mistress had skimped on her mercy towards him in the most recent months. Christmas Eve had been a debacle of gargantuan proportions. Following that, the emergence of Sukuna’s fingers and the deliverance of the boy who’d somehow decided to eat one into his charge; then the subsequent assasination attempts on said boy- the list went on.
Yet now, it seemed that she’d had something of a change of heart.
“Stop here.”
“Huh?”
He left Ijichi’s spluttered protests behind, further muffling them as he swung shut the car door, attention already preoccupied. Thankfully, the man was smart enough not to linger or persist in questioning him. The car’s headlamps shrunk and dimmed with the distance, the vehicle following the winding roads and quickly disappearing from sight.
Finally alone, Satoru pocketed his hands and drummed a heel patiently on the asphalt. For a moment, the only sound was the quiet susurration of the night’s cool breeze through the trees. Peace and tranquil. Not to last. The glow of the moon was abruptly blotted out by a rapidly descending silhouette which emitted a shrill and almost comically skewed cry. Like- Satoru privately considered, the mating call of an exotic bird, or a most egregious war cry of an assassin unused to subtlety.
But his visitor was no bird, exotic or otherwise. That said, whether he was some attempt at an assassin still remained to be seen. Satoru had seen his fair share of hitmen, so many in fact that they’d practically classed as a separate facet of his education growing up; day in and day out- daggers angled at a cradle, poison slipped into milk and food, hands grasping at the porcelain neck of a child with eyes too blue and indicting.
Some things never changed. In the short span of five minutes, he was set alight twice, blown up once, been attacked by the curse’s attempt at emulating mosquitoes, then blown up again. His attacker engaged in this regrettably one-sided exchange with a good deal of enthusiasm, evidently immersed in a private fantasy revolving around his destruction and all its associated carnage. Each time he turned to take a few steps from his perceived victory, only to be halted in his tracks by the dawning and inevitable realization that he’d yet again been made.
Indeed, although Satoru recognised a peculiar variety of sadism lurking in the way he so gladly derived satisfaction from teasing his out-matched and clearly overpowered opposition, it did not jolt him. He made an unconventional Jekyll, unflinching in the face of his own mirrored Hyde. Evil this, kettle that. What mattered was not how despicable a foe was. He’d been called self-centered all his life and revolving around himself like some black hole with an insurmountable appetite lent itself conveniently to introspection. Gojo Satoru, white knight and respected teacher; still endlessly overjoyed with and unable to resist the juvenile schadenfreude that came with knocking down someone lesser who he deemed morally (subjectively) deserving, retribution taking the form of a reckless child pulling the wings off a butterfly.
Yet, it was almost sad to see his disappointment when he’d realized his folly.
It was…. cute. He had no answer to why he was feeling spontaneously magnanimous to someone who’d so recently tried to incinerate him. Perhaps his leniency was partly due to his having managed to eschew singing any part of himself, even if the smoke was something of a bother. Or perhaps it was because his newfound opponent bore a striking resemblance to a character he’d once seen in a Western cartoon movie- though that creature had been something of a lime-green if he recalled correctly, and this one was clearly a sickly shade of cyan.
Much to Jogo’s putative chagrin, he hadn’t missed the curiosity gleaming in the other’s lonely eye. He was a proud curse, a staunch believer of his own strength and influence, of his god given right to walk on the backs of the weak and tread the parted ocean of the divine. These were conceptions reinforced over thousands of years, and yet Satoru- shallow, vexatious human that he was, had managed to shatter them within the mere span of three hundred seconds.
They were of a similar breed, having both partaken of the ichor of strength and become drunk on it, and having both once fallen into the haze of its stupor to be rendered foolhardy and hubristic. The only difference between them in this respect was only in that where Satoru had merely lingered, the curse had chosen to wallow and remain.
Satoru knew intimately that he’d want to know- desperately, why and how he’d lost.
As if to illustrate his point, Jogo was practically radiating indignation. Copious amounts of smoke spewed from the sides of his head, giving him the appearance of a kettle left forgotten on a stove and boiling too long. His teeth, black in the Ohaguro fashion (how well-read) were gritted and clenched with force enough to break a human jaw. His single eye flitted over him with the pupil quivering with rage, irises dancing with the likeness of sparks.
Rather than match the searing intensity of his displeasure, Satoru extended a hand, five fingers outstretched. He rocked it back and forth in an invitation to display his technique-
“C’mon!”
He was met with a look of pure reluctance. Jogo’s mouth pulled into a thin, bloodless line, his tone flat as he queried after his intentions. Satoru gave no answer, only extended his arm and waved a bit more, the infuriating picture of an overzealous fangirl reaching towards some esoteric idol of her fascination.
“C’mon!”
He could practically see him calling on the accessible repositories of his patience and coming up empty-handed. That ironclad will which had thus far enforced his adamance to refuse to oblige him rusted and wore thin. The curse whipped around in an instant, then slowly reached over, single eye going wide with shock as he came into contact with his Infinity.
“See?” Satoru gestured with what could only be described as overbearing nonchalance. “My technique brings the Infinity all around us into existence…” All this he had repeated an infinite (ha) number of times before. Each iteration to a fresh opponent, all to garner the very same response. The monotony of it became dreadfully dull.
Jogo’s expression was twisting with barely concealed rage; to his credit, he listened with all the enthusiasm of an unhappy spouse discussing the prenuptial agreement to an arranged marriage. Satoru knew he was pressing his luck. With a gentle tilt of his wrist, he dissipated that invisible barrier and pressed their palms together at leisure, fingers curving into the gaps between each of the curse’s own in a gesture of superfluous revelry. He grinned easily with all the skittish glee and shyness- in his case, false, of a maiden on her wedding night.
“Like this, we could even hold hands.”
While such an experience could only tangentially be compared to the far more gratifying concept of human intimacy- it was a frivolous distinction but nonetheless, Satoru couldn’t remember the last time he’d truly touched another living being in such a manner, much less a curse.
His skin was an unearthly shade of mint that made him think of wads of gum chewed up and spat onto the sidewalk to bake in the Tokyo heat. His nails were an unadulterated stygian, uniformly opaque in shade and unblemished. They lacked any interfering impurities, no scuffs, no chips, nor streaks of gray or white, the edges curved perfectly and smooth as if frequently attended to by surgeon’s hands guided with a manicurist’s expertise. His gaze traveled to the threshold between skin and nail where the polished curvature, glassy like the surface of a dark sea, receded onto paler shores.
He was not so inhuman that the skin did not wrinkle at the joints as to appear overly artificial or entirely alien. No, there were human intricacies even in this being which could otherwise be considered from appearance alone situated at an extremity on a graded spectrum furthest from humanity.
Or perhaps the basis of his comparison had long been skewed in some figurative hyperbola spanning the years of his life, spent entrenched in this world of the impossible and the unseen. Ah well. So much of his fun was gleaned from the aberrant and bizarre, the threshold for piquing his intrigue having only been heightened and his tastes made perverse with reprise. He’d suitably morphed into something of the like- he was not so ignorant of his own circumstances to be oblivious of his reputation as an idiosyncrasy, known for his unorthodox methods and nonconformist attitude towards reform and melodramatic revolution. The reports would have him campaigning openly for flux and anarchy if some of the higher-ups would have their way- all the more convenient that they might finally produce a reason to be rid of him.
Alas, he couldn’t wander about throwing tea parties for each and every living curiosity he came across. Besides, Jogo was growing warmer by the second, his face a veritable rictus of fury, his frame shuddering with all the thinly restrained savagery like bubbling magma on the verge of erupting, over which his skin drew taut as if about to pop.
“Not interested? Aw.” Satoru let his smile droop slightly, a tolerable shift in expression if only to accentuate the disappointment he tried to convey in his tone. “Well in that case-”
His grip ratcheted shut like a vise, all pretenses of gentleness dispelled in an instant. He felt Jogo yank at their interlocking digits in a sudden and instinctive jerk, the curse going rigid as his fury bled freely from him to make room for fear. The abrupt transition from relative stillness to the momentous heave of his fist into the other’s gut was a well-practiced maneuver, and an effective one to boot.
Inky droplets sprayed from between his parted black teeth to splatter harmlessly over the curtain of his reinstated Infinity. Satoru let the follow-through of the movement carry him through, swinging one leg forwards to shift the weight of his body midair and power the rest of him through the spin. There was little risk in him releasing his hold with his opponent still stunned. He flexed his fingers once free, then let himself fall through the rest of the arc, his trailing leg coming up to deliver a devastating roundhouse kick.
He caught himself there as Jogo went flying on impact, his stunted stature doing him little good in negating the propulsive force. There wasn’t a moment to lose- Satoru gave pursuit without hesitation, his cheeks aching with the effort of holding his smile.
He wasn’t ready to commit to a proper relationship yet.

When The Snow Falls
Author: Elle
Warnings and themes: childhood friends to lovers, non idol au, christmas fic
Rating: 18+
Words: 2k
Hello! This is my first completed fic and I’m excited to share! I wanted to get it done before Christmas, so here it is!
Hope you enjoy :)
You loved being with your family for the holidays, don’t get it wrong. However, there’s only so much nagging about your non-existent love life from your grandma you could take. After wandering around for forty-five minutes trying to find a place to collect your thoughts, you found a small coffee shop just outside of Hyde Park.
You were honestly surprised you'd managed to find your way here without getting hopelessly lost. Especially since you've only visited New York twice since your parents moved here last summer. There's a three-week break before your next semester starts, so you thought you would visit your family for the holidays before you got busy again. You wanted to use this time to relax, but family is family.
You gripped your cup of hot chocolate tightly as you leaned your face over the steam in an attempt to warm your frozen fingers and ruby-red nose. Glancing up and peeking out the windows at the front of the shop, your eyes widened at the full-blown blizzard. It must have snuck up while you were getting your drink. A sigh escaped your lips as you sunk down in your seat, knowing you'd be here for a while.
As you watched the white, fluffy blanket gently covering the streets, an old memory unlocked itself from the depths of your forgetful mind. It was when your hometown saw snow for the first time in twelve years. You remember going out to build a snowman with your dad, but instead, you met your childhood best friend. You both played in the snow until the sun went down with hot chocolate, chicken noodle soup, and a cheesy animated movie to finish out the tiring day. Sadly, he moved away before you got into junior high, so you didn't stay in touch with him. All you could remember were his beautifully deep, chocolate brown eyes.
You were abruptly snapped back into reality by a strong wind wrapping around your body, making you pull your jacket tighter. You looked up to see a man in a charcoal-grey trench coat pushing through the door of the coffee shop, flurries from the blizzard twisting around his frame. What idiot would be out in this?
You look down at your phone to see that your mom had blown up your phone with four missed calls and nine text messages. Apparently, you're missing the cookie decorating competition with your cousins. So tragic.
"Hey, is this seat taken?"
You jumped and almost dropped your phone at the sudden deep voice that manifested itself right in front of you. Once you regained your composure, you looked up and saw the man in the trench coat that had walked into the coffee shop just moments before. He was carrying a poorly wrapped gift, and you could now see that he was wearing slacks and dress shoes. You look up to meet his eyes when a familiar feeling rushes throughout your body. Those chocolate brown eyes and heart-shaped lips… where have you seen them before?
You fight back a snarky comment about his blatant lack of responsibility for checking the weather before leaving the house. Seriously, who leaves the house in dress shoes when there's a blizzard going on outside? Annoyed, you take a look around the coffee shop to see that almost every seat is filled. Probably people taking refuge from the swirling snowstorm. Despite his questionable fashion choices, you shake your head and gesture for him to sit. You just hope he keeps to himself and leaves you alone.
As the man sits down, you can feel his gaze piercing through your soul. Thinking he would eventually look away, you kept your eyes glued on the wilting tree outside. After a few moments, still feeling his gaze, you shoot him a dangerous look. "Can I help you,” you asked impatiently, fidgeting with your ring under the table.
He quickly shook his head as if you snapped him out of a trance. He tightened his grip on his drink and brought it to touch his soft, red lips to take a sip. He then cleared his throat, almost as if he was trying to distract from the awkwardness in the air.
"Uhh… No. Sorry. I didn't mean to stare…" the man said, chuckling nervously as he struggled to get the words out. After a moment of discomfort, his hand shot out towards you. "I’m Kyungsoo. What’s your name?”
That feeling again, there it is. And that name… where have you heard it before? You eyed his hand cautiously before sliding yours into his, shaking gingerly.
“y/n.” Kyungsoo gives you a small, soft smile, the corners of his eyes creasing just a little bit. “That’s a beautiful name…” he trailed off, continuing to stare at me. You fidget in your seat and continue to stare back at him. You’re supposed to be feeling uncomfortable, but you’re surprisingly calm right now.
“I’m sorry, Kyungsoo, but why did you come over here?” He softly laughed and gestured towards the other seats. You had completely forgotten that we’re all in the middle of a blizzard and the entire shop is full of people. He cleared his throat before saying, “But that’s not the only reason.” You shoot him a puzzled look.
At this point, a normal person would’ve gotten up and left because of how weird this has been, but you feel safe with him for some reason. You awkwardly laugh as he finishes his earlier statement, “Don’t you remember me?”
Your brain goes into overdrive trying to remember where you’ve met him because, according to him, you have. You must have been a little too quiet because he then says, “Don’t worry about it if you don’t remember. We were both so young when we knew each other, so it’d make sense if you’d forgotten.” That‘s when you were hit with just about every memory that you shared with him.
It was Kyungsoo who you played in the snow with that day - the one who made you feel loved when no one else would give you the time of day. It was him who you forced yourself to forget because you missed him so much.
“No way… no WAY! It’s really you?!”
He let out a deep, hearty laugh when his eye-smile appeared as he said, “There you go! I knew you’d remember. I mean, how could you forget the boy who was head over heels for you?”
Immediately, your heart stopped. Did I just hear him correctly, you thought to yourself. You stare at him, almost as if he’s speaking another language. You snap out of it at the sound of his velvety words- “Hey, are you okay?” he asked, concerned. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
After what seems like an eternity, you muster up the courage to say the only thing on your mind since the childhood confession.
“Wh-Why would you tell me that now,” you nervously asked. After a slight pause, he let out a sigh. “I’ve always regretted not telling you before I left. So when I walked in here and saw you sitting, looking out the window, I knew this must’ve been the universe giving me a second chance.“
You continue to stare at him, at the quiet, timid boy, or at least that’s who he used to be. He’s completely different now- assertive and not afraid to say what’s on his mind. “I mean, it’s been, what, ten years since we’ve seen each other? Of course he’s gonna be different (y/n).”, you thought to yourself.
“I guess I should’ve waited to tell you until after we saw each other a few more times. I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable (y/n).”
Your heart hung onto his words. Did he just say that we’ll see each other again?
He bit his lip and started wringing his hands nervously on the table. In a bold move, your hand shot out and placed itself gently on his fists, tingling a little bit on impact. “No, no! I’m not uncomfortable! If I’m being honest, it was a relief to hear that. When I was younger, I thought you left because of me. Because I wasn’t a good friend.”
Kyungsoo smiled up at you and placed his other hand softly on yours, saying, “You were the best part of my life (y/n). That’s why when my dad got a new job in Korea, I couldn’t say goodbye because it would’ve hurt too much.” He looks at you for what seems like an eternity when he glances down, only then processing that you’re both basically holding hands at the table. You watch as a flustered Kyungsoo’s cheeks and ears grow to a soft pink when he yanks his hands away. He runs his hands through his hair as if that’ll erase his embarrassment.
He clears his throat when he says, “A-Anyways, tell me everything. I want to know what you’ve been up to all these years.” You both proceed to talk about your lives after junior high and how uneventful it was. He gives you an earful about how much he loves to cook and how he wants to share it with the world.
He also mentioned that he had just finished his first semester at The Culinary Institute of America, explaining why you’re seeing him in New York. Aside from getting to hear more about what his life has been like, you love watching him light up when talking about his favorite things; it makes you feel so warm and content inside.
You two are so enthralled by each other’s company that you don’t realize the blizzard's absence. You’re only sidetracked by the constant buzzing you feel from your phone on your lap. You finally pull it up to see that four and a half hours have passed, and it’s now 7:45pm. You both laugh half-heartedly, knowing you both have places to be and that you’ll have to say goodbye.
He offers to drive you home, which you almost immediately agree to, but only because it’s close to six degrees Fahrenheit. Plus, you don’t want to walk home in the dark. The drive home was nothing special - you both talked about the crazy weather and the Christmas party Kyungsoo was now late for. You teased him about his poorly wrapped white elephant gift, in which he glared at you, letting out a deep, hearty laugh seconds later. He couldn’t be fake upset with you for too long because he loved talking with you.
As you pulled up in front of your house, you looked into his eyes and could see that he was apprehensive about saying goodbye. You reassured him by mentioning that you’ll be in town for the next few weeks and that you should meet for coffee at the same time tomorrow. His eyes softened, as well as his figure, and gave you one of his eye smiles that makes your heart melt.
You both parted ways, excited for your coffee date the next day. As you walk into your parents' house, you are bombarded by your family members asking where you’ve been and how rude it was to make everyone wait.
All you could think about was Kyungsoo’s chocolate brown eyes and his endearing eye smile.

Keyne battles to be accepted for who he truly is—the king’s son. And Sinne dreams of seeing the world, of finding adventure.
All three fear a life of confinement within the walls of the hold, their people’s last bastion of strength against the invading Saxons. However, change comes on the day ash falls from the sky. It brings with it Myrdhin, meddler and magician. And Tristan, a warrior whose secrets will tear them apart.
Riva, Keyne and Sinne—three siblings entangled in a web of treachery and heartbreak, who must fight to forge their own paths.
Their story will shape the destiny of Britain.

One Man and His Bike by Mike Carter
What would happen if you were cycling to the office and just kept on pedalling?
Needing a change, Mike Carter did just that. Following the Thames to the sea he embarked on an epic 5,000 mile ride around the entire British coastline - the equivalent of London to Calcutta.
He encountered drunken priests, drag queens and gnome sanctuaries. He met fellow travellers and people building for a different type of future. He also found a spirit of unbelievable kindness and generosity that convinced him that Britain is anything but broken. This is the inspiring and very funny tale of the five months Mike spent cycling the byways of the nation.
(This is non-fiction in case it’s not obvious!)
The Last Act of Love: The Story of My Brother and His Sister by Cathy Rentzenbrink

It's a story for anyone who has ever watched someone suffer or lost someone they loved or lived through a painful time that left them forever changed. Told with boundless warmth and affection, The Last Act of Love by Cathy Rentzenbrink is a heart-breaking yet uplifting testament to a family's survival and the price we pay for love.

Vile Stars by Sera Milano
(TRUE) LOVE (TOXIC) LOVE (LOST) LOVE This is a different kind of love story. 17-year-old Luka isn't looking for love. She's trying to piece her life back together after a heart-breaking loss. But when she meets the gorgeous and charismatic Cosmo under a meteor shower at the Greenwich Observatory, it feels like destiny has played a hand. Surely theirs is a love written in the stars. Luka's friends and brother can see what's happening, but struggle to reach her. Something will have to be sacrificed so Luka can set herself free - but what will be left of her when she does? Luka's story is told from many points of view: through her letters, and through the voices of her brother, Alec, his boyfriend Theo and Luka's best friend, Roisin. Each of them holds a fragment of the story - it's time to put it all together.
(Be warned, this is a difficult read as it features Covid-19, gaslighting and manipulation, and homophobia. But it is a bloody brilliant book!)
This Can Never Not Be Real by Sera Milano
FIVE TEENAGERS WITH NOTHING IN COMMON, THROWN TOGETHER BY AN ACT OF TERRORISM, CAN'T SURVIVE THE NIGHT WITHOUT EACH OTHER. In the unremarkable town of Amberside, the unthinkable has happened: Terrorists have attacked a local festival. No one knows why, and no one knows who the attackers are, but that doesn’t matter. What matters first is survival. And what matters after that is survival, too. In this brilliantly written account of hope, humour and humanity, five ordinary teenagers are caught up in a truly extraordinary situation. It’s a heart-pounding and gripping account of the fight for survival, told from multiple perspectives, as the attackers prowl the festival grounds. A book for anyone who needs to see that behind the hate that makes the headlines, there is always love.
(This is also a difficult book, but again, bloody brilliant and compelling. Sera Milano is an outstanding writer.)
Hope you find something to enjoy in there, Anon.

warnings: none
a/n: apologies for the long wait darlings. here she is though. and she is a long one. also a side note for those who love symbolism as much as i do 💐 ;) also, my banabaer @milkbaer this one is for u baby. thank you for all of your help!!!
a german lesson: Gänschen means goose🦆 (that’s a duck but we can pretend) and schloss means palace/chateau/mansion
The massive railway station stood proudly as the gateway to Potsdam, located right where the forest met the city. Three archways made of worn bricks welcomed old friends and strangers alike. There was something in the slightly tinted mossy green that offered you an odd sense of home. Like you had been here before.
Friedrich stood next to you near the exit. You had had breakfast together, then got ready separately before meeting each other again here.
“I had a lot of memories with this train station,” Friedrich said as the train finally passed the great archway.
You didn’t realize that you had been holding your breath the entire time, waiting for the wheels to come to full stop. You had been storing information from Lea and Ilse about Friedrich’s mother all morning. Anything that might help you strike up a decent conversation with her from her favorite flowers (gardenias) to her pets (a schnauzer named Fifi). Since then, you had been a little preoccupied by your own imaginations of her as a mother.
From the way Friedrich talked about her, your first guess was that they were extremely like-minded. Aside from that, there was the fact that she was a Queen to consider. She obviously must be extremely elegant and poised. Even her dog sounded posh-Fifi the Schnauzer...
You were still listening to Friedrich though, just not closely. “Really?” you asked, your eyes following the platform numbers as they passed by.
He nodded proudly. “I ran here from the Palace and caught the train to Berlin for a boxing match.”
You laughed, now entirely engaged in imagining little Friedrich fleeing from his guards. “And how old were you?”
“Thirteen. I skipped a dancing lesson.”
“Shame. You could have become a ballerina and outdone my stunts at your Christmas party.”
“Who’s to say that I did not? There are still many shocking things that you don’t know.” His plan to distract you from your own nerves had worked wonderfully well. You two continued to discuss his boxing match up until you were escorted out of the station.
There, you were greeted by a great spectacle of carriages and a horse parade. Everywhere you looked there were men in uniforms. They were on horses, in open top carriages, on the streets, all waiting for you and Friedrich.
Back in London, your family frequently had two to three carriages to accompany you to social functions. It was already considered excessive for the ton. You would have laughed at the idea of this. Or to be honest, wouldn’t have even been able to imagine having an entire parade to accompany you a couple of blocks down the street.
And of course, you could not forget the icing on the cake-the largest carriage you had ever seen. The one you saw in France could not compare and certainly not the one in England. This one was completely enveloped in gold from top to toe-or rather from roof to wheels. On the top of the roof, there were golden cherubs holding up an olive branch and flowers.
It was a harsh reminder that Friedrich, someone who you had grown to identify as your friend over the last several hours, was also the firstborn son of the King, heir apparent to the throne. And you were his wife. Whatever agreement you had made with each other in private was not valid in the public eye. Here, you were a Princess. The Princess.
As Friedrich watched you marvel in the magnificence of the royal parade, he turned to Heinrich with a last minute decision. Well last minute for his father and valet but not for him. Friedrich had wanted to visit his mother for ages.
“I’m heading to my mother’s. We’ll catch up with the staff afterwards and meet you at the Berlin Palace.”
All of this was not on the schedule his father had drawn out and Friedrich was well-aware. He had even cancelled the state train that Friedrich specifically ordered to Potsdam just to make sure he would not take you here first. But Friedrich was not one to lose.
At the same time, however, he knew that his valet was absolutely terrified of his father, as did most people. Soon enough, when his father found out that his son was not on the train to Berlin and was nowhere near the Royal Palace, he would definitely not be happy.
“But your Highness, we really must get going now or we won’t reach Berlin by noon.”
“If he asks, just blame it on me. I’ll be in and out in one hour.”
Heinrich didn’t say anything after that, just nodded. For that, Friedrich was thankful, he did not want to ruin this magical moment for you. It was not going to be this magical for long.
As Heinrich left with your staff, Friedrich turned back to you. “Y/N?”
“I-Is this for us?”
The look on your face made him laugh. Your jaws were grazing the floors, your eyes slowly sweeping across the scene then glanced at him and back to the carriages again.
“I believe it is,” he smiled, offering you his arm.
…
The entire ride back to the Palace was essentially just for you to fathom the welcome wagon.
You could barely string a sentence together, nodding along as Friedrich picked out places that he mentioned in his stories last night, especially enthusiastic about the candy shop he was never allowed to go in.
Potsdam was charming. You could certainly imagine a very fulfilling and peaceful existence here where it wasn't hectic like London but not entirely placid like the countryside.
Just when you thought you could not be more impressed, you arrived at Sanssouci Park.
When Ilse briefly mentioned it, you had expected a park. Like Hyde Park or Regent’s Park or the little garden behind your house that your parents insisted was a park. Whatever you had imagined, however, could not hold a candle to what it was in reality.
“Welcome to Sanssouci Park,” Friedrich said casually, casting a brief look out the windows while your eyes were completely glued to the towering gates opening up for your parade to pass through.
The name was not meant to refer to a park. It was definitely not a park. It was a bloody forest. As you entered the road lined with dense trees, the temperature dropped slightly with the shade, effectively cooling you both from the outside in.
“This is what you call a park? Whatever do you two think of Hyde Park then? A child’s sandbox?”
Before he could answer, your attention was quickly captured by a glimpse of something magnificent as the carriage passed a gap between the tree trunks. You pointed towards the dash of yellow you’d seen. “Is that where your mother lives?”
Friedrich followed your gaze and promptly nodded. “That’s Sanssouci Schloss. Here is the back of it.” Just on cue, the carriage rounded the corner and headed towards the back of the Palace.
Your jaws were officially off now as your eyes feasted on the very picture of splendor.
From personal observations, people usually spent a great deal of time and fortune on making the fronts of their homes as extravagant as possible. It was all in the face, as they said. But not here. Here, even the rear side was grand.
There was a huge water fountain in the middle of the yard, the blue sky printed on the surface. Naturally, your eyes followed straight ahead, past the window behind Friedrich’s head towards the most elaborate set of marble stairs you’d ever seen. On either side were tall walls of hedges and rose bushes that covered the hillside.
“Can we walk up those steps?”
Friedrich turned to look at the steps and then back at you again.
It was not a steep hill. More of a gentle slope but exactly because of that, the steps were long and the landings were wide. Anyone in breeches would find it challenging enough as it was. But you were in a gown, in the sweltering July heat and you were volunteering to walk. “You can. People usually go straight to the entrance though. Are you certain you’d want to walk? It is a long way.”
You nodded, brushing off his concerns. All you cared about was the sight.
Per your request, the carriage stopped right before the grand stairs to Sanssouci Palace. You and Friedrich got out of the carriage.
From where you stood, you had to crane your neck up slightly to be able to see the Palace up the top. The strip of yellow you’d seen from afar turned out to be much more intricate than you’d expected. Beautiful white windows lined the yellow walls, right in the center was an oval shaped room with a cyan dome on top, perfectly aligned with the stairs. Even though it only had one story, its width certainly made up for its height, stretching across the hill.
As you walked ahead, Friedrich decided to stall a little bit. Memories of endless summer days spent on these lawns came flooding back.
He had missed this.
The last time he was here was the summer before he left for England. It was actually here that his aunt Charlotte came to visit with an invitation to Cambridge-the day that changed his life.
And now he was here with you. Someone he had dreaded to marry a mere few days before. Now a dear friend to him.
Straight in front of him, you were marching up the steps with admirable determination, your hands holding onto your skirt, lifting it off the ground. With sun on your skin and wind in your hair, you laughed and told him to hurry up. For that split second, he wished he was not just your friend. Though he discarded that thought as quickly as it came, it stayed stuck in the back of his mind as he matched your pace.
“These are a lot of steps,” you remarked after the first flight of stairs was behind you. There were at least five more ahead. The excessively wide spaces between each step did not help with the general morale either.
“I did warn you,” he chuckled. “It was too exhausting a trip that Marie Antoinette rode a horse up these steps after her stroll in the garden.”
You paused for a moment.
Friedrich thought you were imagining the French queen trotting up the steps with her stallion. But as it turned out, he was wrong.
“Did he invite her over during one of the military clashes between Prussia and France?”
To say that Friedrich did not expect that was an understatement. You had told him you read but he never asked for the specifics on what exactly you were interested in. At that moment, he simply thought you’d be interested in a made-up tale to forget about the stairs. He did not think for a moment you’d be interested in foreign conflicts enough to know the feud between Prussia and France. He knew he certainly wasn’t as a student.
“You can’t fool me. I know,” you said, laughing at the shock on his face.
Pleasantly impressed, he remarked, “Full of surprises I see.”
“You’ll see that in this friendship,” you motioned between yourselves, “you’re not the only one who can shock.”
He gave you a nod, lowering his eyes and watched his steps before he murmured to himself. “Friendship, yes.” He reminded himself of how grateful he was to be your friend. And that maybe pining over you for the rest of his life was better than having you hate him.
If there was one thing for certain, it was that you two would not repeat his parents’ mistakes.
“Darling!”
The voice caused Friedrich’s eyes to snap upwards, slightly alarmed as they weren’t expected on this side of the Palace. Everyone was supposed to be at the front.
The first thing he saw was that you had stopped as well, only standing two steps above him. And then, on the top flight, he saw his mother, waving at him. She wasn’t supposed to greet them outside. At the same time though, he wouldn’t expect her to wait that long for anything anyways.
He waved back with a laugh. She hadn’t changed one bit since the last time he saw her nearly a year ago. A straw sunhat on top of her head, a basket of flower and gardening tools in her hand.
“I-is that-“
Friedrich nodded. “Yes, that’s her. That’s my Mama.”
The nervous jitters came back to you. You knew how much his mother meant to him. She was the true hero of his childhood and you were just excited to meet her. However, you also knew that in no way was this arrangement made by her. And no matter how friendly you were with Friedrich, as his mother, she would not easily trust you.
You quickly masked your nervousness with a gentle smile. It was the safest route after all. Better look like a smiley fool than a grumpy idiot. You thought.
The Queen began to walk down the steps briskly, meeting you halfway up the last flight of stairs. Immediately, she threw her arms around Friedrich, pulling him into a bear hug. “There you are, you Gänschen! You’ve kept your mother waiting long enough!” She said, messing up his hair and only letting go of him once he was shaking with laughter.
When he and your maids said she was very carefree in private, you did not expect her to be this carefree. A lady was not supposed to be out in the sun like this, no less a queen. She was also much more beautiful than you could ever imagine, with her honey blonde curls tumbling down her back in waves and her big blue eyes which were now on you.
“Apologies, Mama,” he stepped back, allowing you to take a step forward. “This is Y/N, my wife. And Y/N, this is my Mama.”
“It is such an honor to meet you, your Majesty,” you said, bending your knees into a curtsy, praying you wouldn’t stumble backwards and ruin the first impression.
You had an overwhelming want for her to like you. And you felt like this first meeting was of paramount importance in deciding that. If it did not go well, she would never see you as anything more than a girl her son was forced to marry. And that was terrifying even in the case where Friedrich remained a good friend.
You were not wrong. Frederica did not expect much from a match made by Louis, a man who clearly did not know his own son or even cared to try. Assuming he did know his son, it would not even be of any matter at all. The only thing he had ever cared about was grooming an heir. This arrangement, no doubt, served that.
But Frederica could not ignore the large smile on her son’s face as he ascended the steps with this young lady.
That? That was not by design.
Frederica shook her head and offered you her hand to help you stand up straight. “I prefer Frederica. At least when we are not in court.”
She gave you a cheeky wink and plucked a gardenia from her basket, tucking it by your ear. “Come on now! I am sure it has been a long trip for the both of you. Let us have some tea before you go.”
...
Frederica led the both of you into the Palace through the doors into the oval room. Inside it was just as spectacular as its exterior. Tall columns held up the painted dome where a chandelier was hung. The three arched windows looking out to the gardens were pushed open by three footmen, allowing sunlight and fresh air to gush into the space, lightening up the entire room.
“Please have a seat, dears,” Frederica said, gesturing to the rounded table in the middle of the room.
You were still too in awe to be able to settle down calmly in your seat but obeyed her anyways. Beside you, Friedrich was glancing around the room, like he was in search of something.
“Is Fifi not here?” he asked as a butler approached the table with a cake stand.
Just on cue, Fifi-his mother’s Schnauzer, shot through the doors. You nearly gasped out of sheer excitement when you saw the ball of salt and pepper fur fly into the room like an arrow. You had always shared a fondness for dogs. Yet you never had one. The only dogs you had were your father’s hunting hounds and he made sure you remained far away from them.
“Speak of the devil...” Friedrich turned to you, “this is Fifi, hated by most but very loved by my mother. Mostly because she smells like fish.”
He kept his eyes on the dog as she strolled around, heading in your direction and getting alarmingly close. “Fifi!” he said, shooing her off. The dog didn’t care, just kept on going forward.
“Oh, it’s quite alright! I love dogs,” you said, fighting the urge to pet Fifi who was quietly sniffing at the hem of your skirt.
Frederica was absolutely surprised when she saw her Schnauzer so quiet. Her dog was not friendly with strangers. By this time there should have been an accident.
The delayed accident happened right after that. Fifi bit down on your dress, tugging at it playfully.
More surprising, however, you didn’t seem scared of the feisty little old thing either. You just laughed.
“Fifi! Leave the poor girl alone!” Frederica said, tapping her shoes against the floor.
Friedrich quickly leaned forward and picked her up. Being lifted off the ground, she released your skirt and focused on wiggling out of Friedrich’s grasps instead. When she eventually succeeded, Fifi headed back to you, circling your feet, her tail wagging.
Friedrich clicked his tongue, about to bend over again to shoo Fifi off. Not that she would care. But the dog plopped down between your chair and his mother’s, out of Friedrich’s reach.
She looked up at you with big eyes, begging for a pet, which you were happy to provide. You reached down and scratched her ears. It was all rather brave, if he must admit.
“I know it is hard to believe but she seems fond of you,” Frederica mused, seeing Fifi transform into a whole other dog under your touch. She was not usually this sweet.
Friedrich scoffed. “The devil almost ripped her skirt off,” he gestured to the hem of your dress, and glared at Fifi.
“It’s fine, honestly. I think it was a compliment if anything,” you said with a smile.
He sighed. “Don’t defend the perpetrator! She has a terrible temperament. And you know it,” he turned to his mother.
“Fifi does. as much as I love her,” Frederica nodded. Fifi’s ears perked up at the mention of her name, blinking at her owner. “But you seem like a very experienced animal whisperer.”
“No, actually. I never had one.”
“Well, that’s a shame. You’re great with Fifi. And if you can handle her, you can handle any dog.”
“Any dog is better than Fifi,” Friedrich said under his breath. Nevertheless, he was glad to see the two of you bond. Even if it was over Fifi the Ferocious.
On the bright side, at least she wasn’t coming back with them to Berlin. It was the only thing Friedrich and his father had ever had in common-a dislike for the Schnauzer.
...
Heinrich was being escorted into the Palace towards the audience room. A place he would much prefer not to go to on his own. He had arrived for over an hour and still you two were nowhere to be found and it was only for so long he could hide the train of carriages. Eventually, one of the butlers alerted the King of his presence and he was immediately requested inside.
Heinrich had suspected that you would arrive slightly late. He just didn’t think it could be this late. He had no idea what he was supposed to say. One misstep and off with his head.
When the doors to the room were swung open, the King was throwing a fit. His deafening yell rang across the room and bounced against the tall walls. It certainly did not help with the nerves.
“WHERE IS MY HORSE?” he demanded, rising up from the throne. From where he stood, he towered over the poor footman. “I am late for hunting!”
“Your Majesty, you cancelled today’s hunt.”
“And why on earth would I do that?”
Heinrich kept quiet, remaining invisible as he approached the throne behind the butler. He was not about to be caught in the middle of a crossfire during one of the King’s fits.
The footman blinked. Heinrich could see the man debating whether or not to answer, lest it was a rhetorical question.
“B-because the Prince is back from England, sir?”
“Oh,” the King said. His voice quieter than before and sat back down again. The crease between his Majesty’s eyebrows disappeared, his expressions softening slightly. Then he turned to the footman with a quizzical look. “And where is the Prince?”
The footman turned around and met Heinrich’s eyes. And then the King followed his gaze. So much for not wanting to be caught in the crossfire.
“I-“ Heinrich began, his mind drawing a blank.
If he were to tell the truth, Friedrich and you would no doubt be in trouble. However, if he didn’t tell the truth, he’d be in trouble and so would you two. And if he just said he didn’t know, he’d be on the first ship to an island far far away.
“Well?” The King barked.
“I’ll go get them, your Majesty!”
“Don’t just stand there. Hurry along then! Before I chop all of your heads off.”
Heinrich had never walked so fast out of a room his entire life. His heart was pounding as it began to dawn on him that he had just lied to the King. Well, it was not exactly a lie. He was going to get them. They just weren’t here yet. Unfortunately, none of that mattered. There was no reasoning with such a powerful man. All he could do was hope that he would still be alive to see another day.
Just when all of his luck appeared to have run out, he heard the distinct sound of hooves against cobble and rushed outside.
Friedrich helped you out of the carriage, still engaged in the never-ending tales of Fifi the Ferocious. You were laughing when you caught sight of the magnificent Royal Palace-Berliner Schloss. It was much boxier than Sanssouci Schloss with towering walls that casted a great shadow over the front lawn.
Household staff lined the steps on either side, straightening up as Heinrich dashed past them. Some had their heads turned, the younger ones especially, their curious eyes on you, trying to catch a glimpse of the new Princess. The more seasoned staff near the top stayed perfectly still, resisting the urge to look anywhere other than straight ahead.
“Your Highnesses!” He said, bowing so quickly you were worried his head might snap off. “Your presences are requested. Immediately!”
...
Through the doors you could faintly hear your titles being announced. Your palms were clammy so you hid it behind you, focusing on what you might say in a couple of moments.
Friedrich was not nervous, of course.
He was the one who planned the detour in the first place. And while you had enjoyed the time with Frederica very much, perhaps a little too much, it had delayed your schedule by well over a couple of hours. It meant that you made the King of Prussia, your father-in-law wait.
The only person more nervous than you was probably Heinrich. Every time you caught a glimpse of his face, he seemed more haggard than the last. You were not certain whether he was really sick or just worried.
"My father will say things. Things that are aimed to test you. Do not mind any of it," Friedrich said quietly.
"Something tells me I should take that as a suggestion. One look at Heinrich and I know what I am in for."
Friedrich sneaked a glance at his valet and gave you a small smile. "Heinrich has always been that way. Worries a little too much."
"Maybe that is for good reason-"
The trumpets sounded, prompting you to straighten up, smooth your dress and put on a smile. In the corner of your eyes, you could see Friedrich cracking up. Had it not been for the fact that you were being presented right then, you would have given him a slipper to the chest. He was still smiling up until you had to walk through the doors.
Then, his demeanor shifted completely. You did not dare to make eye contact with the King. All you saw was brief glimpses of a man, wearing a red cloak on the throne. But Friedrich, he was looking straight down the room, challenging his father.
From the stories he had told you, you knew that Friedrich had a rough relationship with his father. Once he got a chance to break away, he vowed he would allow his father to have full control of his life again. And from the suffocating tension in the air, you knew his father would not make it easy.
“The Prince and Princess of Prussia, your Majesty,” a footman announced.
"Your Majesty," you said, giving the King a curtsy.
"Welcome, welcome. I hope the journey was not too rough for you.”
You smiled and nodded. Not a bad start.
However, it was a completely different story when you saw Friedrich’s face. He raised his eyebrows, clearly unconvinced by his father’s concern. "You do, father? Wasn’t it on your orders that the state train never arrived?”
“Now, now, Friedrich. That was none of my doing.” The King turned to you with a small smile. “I must say, you are much prettier than I expected, my lady.”
He had made such an effort to emphasize the last two words that even if you weren’t listening, you still would have caught them. The King was smirking on his throne, his icy eyes sending chills down your back.
“I believe it’s your Highness, father.”
This row was your fault. You could tell.
“No, I don’t think it is. You didn’t get married.”
“We did.”
“That did not count.”
“How? Because you weren’t invited?”
“I see all of your manners have gone out the door since you stepped foot out of this country.”
Friedrich wanted to scoff. It was always going to be about England. If they were going to have this conversation, he was going to do it properly. But not in front of you.
He turned to Heinrich. “Take the Princess to see the chambers.”
You didn’t want to leave. You were responsible for this in one way or another. You should be here to take the blame. But Friedrich shook his head like he knew what you were about to say. “Come with Heinrich. I’ll meet you later.”
“No need for that. Lady Brandt, your chief lady-in-waiting, will take you for a tour. Bernadine?”
You remembered Lea and Ilse mentioning her as well. However, at that time, she didn’t have a name or a face for you to attach her to just yet. You just knew that she was going to be in charge of all of your affairs like Heinrich was doing for Friedrich. Now she had a name and a face.
At the mention of her name, she nodded and stepped forward from the line of staff on your right. She was dressed in a blood red dress, a strand of pearls wrapped around her long neck. She came towards you, giving you an impressive curtsy, tipping her head forward slowly yet keeping her hat perfectly still on her dark raven hair.
When she looked up, you were finally able to see her striking hollow eyes, tall cheekbones and an ever so slightly upturned corner of her lips. She looked awfully familiar. Like a much younger version of your mother actually. And she was just as terrifying.
“Come with me, your Highness.”

Hope to see some of you all over there, I’m eager to post and share new content for the fic. New chapter every Sunday and possibly Wednesday if audience is there and work isn’t too crazy. :)
Here’s the info:

Post Season 8 fanfic recommendations
Hey! So, I’ve been working on this for a while. I’ve read so many good Hyde/Jackie stories, and I feel like it’s a waste not to share them.
I tried to separate everything in categories, but some fics fit in more than one category and honestly it was just a mess. So I've separated them the best way that I could. I’m going to post the categories separately, and after I’m done I’ll make a masterpost with links to each of the categorized posts, as suggested by @springsteenicious and @those70scomics (thank you both for the help!).
Even though this is only one category, it’s still a long post, as I’ve said before, I’ve read many fanfics. I don’t know if I should edit this and add more stories as they’re out (for instance, I have a post season 8 story that I’m planning on posting soon) or if I should just leave things this way. Please let me know if you think I left out a good story or if you have any suggestions.
I’ve read and enjoyed ALL of these stories, they’re all very good. All the stories mentioned here are post season 8 stories. I’ll post stories that take place during season 8 next. I hope everyone enjoys it!

Oh, just one thing, speaking as someone who writes, it would be really cool if you guys decide to leave a review (or a comment, if the story is on AO3) in the stories you read, especially the unfinished ones. It really motivates the authors, and receiving a compliment is always a mood lifter. I’ve seen some authors updating stories after years because of nice reviews, so... yeah, this is just an idea.
