"The Heights are a gorgeous utopia. The Depths, a filthy industrial wasteland. Our heroine, raised in the Heights, has nothing but contempt for those below. Now an observation mission requires her to descend into that world, and the gears of fate have begun to turn.

This story takes place two years after the 'Grand Ending' from the original Steam Prison. While riding the 'buggy' invented by the engineer (and information broker) Ulrik, our party arrives in the new land of Cainabel, where they meet a pair of kings. The story unfolds from there.

The stories of Ulrik, Adage, and Fin take place alongside the younger king Jevite in this strange land. Meanwhile Eltcreed, Ines, and Yune clear the way to Cainabel's future with the elder king Jereme. You can enjoy this episode and its endings from two points of view, depending on which party member the heroine travels with.

This release also includes an additional story titled A New Theory.

In A New Theory, our heroine must confront the injustice of her world. She makes contact with the HOUNDS in order to clear her name, and decides to forge a new path for herself..."

Blue Breaker Burst: Hohoemi o Anata to is the second entry in the Blue Breaker series and moved away from the RPG genre of the first entry from 1996. The series instead moved to the fighting game genre, this series was a trilogy of games from the mid to late 90s. 

Hohoemi o Anata to is the first of two games in the series that was released in 1998, with its sequel released just two months later. Developed by HuneX Co and published by Human Entertainment and Hamster Corporation.

I can't believe it's here!

Steam Prison is one of (if not) my favourite otome game! I never thought it would get a sequel, but here it is!!! This time with more love from the original 6 boys but also two new characters - Jevite and Jereme!

The date is 28th October 2004, and the Dreamcast still lives on!!  Baldr Force is the latest offering from GIGA and Alchemist.  Alchemist are well-known for their dating sims so this release comes as quite a surprise. Baldr Force EXE is a Japanese-style adventure with shooting action scenes. This may seem like an odd combination since your typical Japanese adventure sim consists of text, speech, and lovely artwork and that's about it really. Baldr Force has all of that but also a great mech shooting section. These action sections pop up throughout the game as the story progresses. You actually get to play out the story in real time as you battle your way through the levels.

The entire atmosphere of Baldr Force is without a doubt one of the more intriguing in a long time. The music fits the action and text sections so well. The cut scenes blend flawlessly with a unique style about them. I've been playing this game for 5 hours now and have managed to build up my mech quite a bit with extra weapons and so on. This is probably the only Japanese-style adventure game that I've ever played for such a length of time. I normally can't be bothered after a few hours. Well, apart from Kanon that is.

As with almost every Dreamcast release over the past few years of its existence or so, Sega Direct had been doing their very own special sets that could only be bought from them. So, with Baldr Force, you get quite a fair bit of extra goodies. First off, we have the telephone card as shown above. Next, there's the poster which has the same artwork as the telephone card so there's no real reason to post a picture of that. And finally, there's the cool model of the main mech that you play in the game. Just check it out!!

The mech comes with movable parts so that you can model it into a variety of different poses. The mechs also come with extra weapons. The second top picture shows it with two guns while the one above it shows the mech with one gun and a light sword.

Reverse Engineering: Arcana Famiglia -Ancora- Part 1

I was asked to take a look into script extracting/repacking for Arcana Famiglia. I'm a novice hacker so no promises that I'll be able to make this game truly patch-able.

I was able to get a small amount of text patched in as shown in the image above but it's exceptionally hard to do so right now. Also the font seems to be full-width only so that'd need to be changed somehow. So far this has been really interesting as it's much more complex than the other files I've messed with. The script container file had compressed data (LZSS0 compression) and padding to create alignment (all sizes are padded to be multiples of 2048). Plus even once the script files are extracted from the container they are in their own unique format that needs to be reverse engineered too. Below is the technical info for anyone interested

The decompressed files all start with IKA SEQ SYSTEM v4.1 HuneX 2010. These files contain all dialogue, scene data, effects, and likely more. I'm not sure if I'll be able to reverse engineer these since they seem way more complicated but I'm going to try.
