"Oh... no. No, never! (...) No, no, we've never dated. No, there's no need to be jealous."
--Sarah (Mayko Nguyen) to Micheal (Andrew Bushell), when he wonders whether she and Charlie (John Reardon) are exes because they "were so in sync at the casino"!
It's true they are not (sigh!) exes, but both Rex (Diesel vom Burgimwald) and I reckon the lady doth protest too much!

Day 9: Favourite Villain
Sam Sutton! Usually the villains on the show don't tend to give me the creeps, but 'Nightmare on Water Street' is one of those episodes that had me on edge. I'm not sure whether it's the harlequin outfit he wore during his killing spree or the quiet, chilling way that Josh Cruddas played the part, but he stands out by a mile. Plus the interrogation scene between him and Sarah remains one of my favourite Sarah scenes ever. Mayko Nguyen deserved her award nomination this year for this scene alone 😍

I really wish I could be convinced that more people would be interested in non-ship stuff for fandoms I'm in.
Look, we all know we write for ourselves. I get it. I do. But my desire (ability) to finish things is hinged on feedback. My two longest fics that I wrote the fastest were because of audience engagement. And because I knew I had people I respected and liked reading, and I wanted them to enjoy the read, I wrote better.
Now I feel like I'm just stuck in No Man's Land of fandom, and while I have like a dozen things half finished, they never seem to actually BE finished because if the audience is me, then I know how it ends. There's not much point writing it down.
So this is basically my To Do List.
The Rookie - I just don't care about what 90% of the fandom cares about
1. Series of one shots that establish Angela and Tim's BFF status that may or may not lean Tim aspec because I'm me.
2. Pre series flashbacks to Tim in his time in service when he survives an airstrike that kills two of his friends and almost kills him.
3. Trauma Tim post season 6, because in rapid succession, he loses his job on metro, he witnesses his old team die in a way eerily similar to the way he was almost killed in the airstrike, had a friend commit suicide in front of him after confessing to being dirty, gets accused of being dirty himself, and is again almost killed in close quarter combat (among other things that will remain unmentioned here)
Slow Horses
1. Do not ask me why but I love the idea that Lamb potentially met River was he was a kid because he had to work closely with David Cartwright and River is always where he's not supposed to be
2. River goes missing, and for once, not his fault. Lamb has to come to terms that just because he pretends not to care, doesn't mean anyone buys it
3. Post season 4, somebody finds out that River is the last remaining son of Frank's assassin cult, and it goes about as well as can be expected. I fully intend to have Lamb use this line: "trying to detain you is like trying to nail jello to a tree".
Magnum PI (yes, I still work on these)
1. Finish Wrong Side. I actually have like another 10-15k words on it, but it's not in order or complete scenes, but it does include Thomas’s recovery and discovery that Hannah is the one who sold them out
2. I have like 6 other chapters to Bad Things Happen that I half wrote but then retired the card
3. Crossover with MacGyver because I thought Mac could use some down time in Hawaii after season 4 and the last half of season 3
Tracker 1. Colter goes missing during one of his cases, and I borrow heavily from an episode of Lethal Weapon wherein Colter will be held hostage in an illegal drug trial that he stumbled into and now finds himself an unwilling participant, and I drag Russell into it because that is how big brothers work
Hudson & Rex - honestly, I have the most written for this fandom, even though the fandom itself is pretty quiet, but it's most of a bingo card 1. Finish Oh The Weather Outside is Frightful because damn son it's been years
2. In no particular order, I have Bad Things Happen Bingo It's Not My Blood, Stitches, Caught in a Snare, Falls Through the Ice and three others that fit other prompts - a boating accident, Charlie finally finds himself at the bottom of a well (sort of) and completes his "Timmy and Lassie Scenario" bingo card, and where Charlie realizes he's developed claustrophobia after having a mine collapse on him, being locked in a freezer storage, almost crushed by a shipping container, buried alive, etc and gets stuck in an elevator with Jesse
#fic in progress#I wish I could actually get words to paper like I used to#but then I also remember I have decidely healthier habits#like not staying up until 4am every night#and having a job that lets me eat and have a roof over my head#but still I miss the writing#and I miss the talking to people about it#either the fandoms are soooo small I feel like ranting at the same people ove and over is bothersome or that they'll get sick of it#they also have lives and other friends#but alas here I am in my genfic world#desperately wanting genfic to magically appear and me not have to do it#hudson & rex#charlie hudson#magnum pi 2018#the rookie#tim bradford#angela lopez#slow horses#river cartwright#jackson lamb#all the fandoms#forever WIP#but hey at least all of them have SOMETHING written on them

Hudson and Rex S02E02 - Over Ice
Eh, yes that definitely needs to be under the cut because it's long.
It feels wrong that this show had an ice skating episode before a hockey episode lol
"You should keep your dog on the carpet. It's slippier than it looks". He has four legs. And claws.
Charlie and Sarah are flirting over the body again. This is unacceptable (please continue). And we learn about Sarah's figure skating past.
"Who's afraid of little old me?"
The mom was so annoying for most of the episode.
"Enjoying" figure skating.
In the first couple of seasons there must have been about a dozen references about Jesse never going home.
I remember I had a lot of trouble finding the killer in this one. They all seemed very suspicious.
So it's not illegal to be in possessions of steroids, you just get in trouble if you use one while competing for stuff?
Julia's confession to Sarah is a nice scene. And I like Sarah's subtle reaction and support. It's not anything too dramatic, or shallow, and I honestly don't understand why some of the audience react the way they did (imdb reviews can give a hint). Not to mention that this episode gets "wokeness warning" (I can't think of any other way to put it) in backwards countries like... the US. Do you know how ridiculous it is for an episode with a minor trans character to be treated like that in the US while in countries that are a hundred years back in social issues like Greece no one bats an eye? Eh, a lot. (In Greece it aired in a major free broadcasting network and was a bit before legislation protecting trans people had passed, so I thought that we'd be the ones to cut it or we'd remove stuff in the subtitles. We didn't cut it and the subtitles were normal, plus that season was repeated like 3-4 times.)
Sarah: "I'm not a cop". You're not a cop now. In S4 you will be carrying a badge and gun.
Ah, the freezer, finally.
I am simultaneously happy and sad that this shipper moment happened so early. Happy because it was well made and if you don't put crumbs early enough, then who's going to ship it? And sad because, well, imagine this happening in S4 for example. It would have been so good and it would have been laced with an extra layer of angst.
No but Charlie was very quick to panic.
Charlie: Rex, open the door buddy! || Rex: Once again, Charlie, I don't have thumbs.
I love Charlie's detailed instructions to Rex. Sir, he's a dog. You're lucky he actually knew where to go for help. And I have to note that the most helpful suggestion came from Sarah.
Work never ends, not even when you're trapped in a freezer.
Getting to the good stuff. Couples whump, yes please.
How can anyone claim that they weren't meant to be a couple like???
"I guess I peaked early." "Hardly".
Meanwhile, Rex is trying to find the right people who will understand that when he's without Charlie, Charlie is in trouble.
Sharing body heat (and coat).
Jesse: Rex, wait up! || Rex: No, my humans are in danger! Can't those two legs of yours go any faster?
Oh, you know, just chilling.
And then Charlie asks Rex what took so long? I'd have left and locked the door again. Joking, Charlie thanks him afterwards. Just globber him in saliva, Rex, that will show him.
Random thoughts: Charlie's arm around Sarah. Also Jesse dying from all the running in the back, and no one paying attention to him lol
S4!Charlie would have at least knocked Lucas unconscious for locking him and Sarah in the freezer. At least Rex bit him and threw him on the ground.
The following interrogation scene is lookwarm and they don't mention the fact that Lucas tried to kill two more people after that. The jury is not going to like the fact that he moved the body afterwards? What about trying to kill two cops?
I like the ending scene. It ends on a high note. As for the "wokeness", just as I remembered, it doesn't present anything other than that trans people exist. It doesn't make any statements. So, I'm confused by people's reactions yet again.

Presenting: The unofficial Hudson & Rex Season 6 countdown! (Please ignore my complete lack of graphic design skills.)
A fun little challenge/hopefully some creative inspiration as we wait for the season 6 premiere.
The Rules: There are none! Participate as much/as little as you want! Create whatever you like, whether it be gifs, fanfic, blog posts, etc... I'll make an AO3 collection for fic, but if you want a Tumblr/other socials tag, I'm going to suggest #rexseason6 or maybe #everyoneneedsaseason6
The Plan: Once we know the official season premiere date, we'll call that Day 10 and update accordingly. For example, if the premiere were to be October 4, we would designate September 25 as Day 1. For now, if you want to plan ahead, if you want to post early, whatever you like, go for it!
The prompts:
Day 1: Favourite character
Day 2: Favourite episode
Day 3: Favourite season
Day 4: Favourite moment
Day 5: Favourite ship/dynamic
Day 6: Favourite takedown
Day 7: Favourite team moment
Day 8: Favourite recurring/guest character
Day 9: Favourite villain
Day 10: Choose your own adventure! Some ideas thanks to @somefandomcontent @gloriousharmonylover @themisanthropiclycanthrope are: favourite outfit, favourite location, favourite whump moment, favourite line spoken by favourite character, headcanons, fanon hills you will die on, etc.
Hopefully this generates some excitement leading up to season 6! Happy creating!

Uhmmmm.... Ages ago and very badly, I made this fun thing, since this is again on my Dashboard and I have decided to start sharing more stuff that I do, maybe it’s a good occasion. I know this is not ideal video editing, so just take it for what it is :D
Hudson & Rex - 4x4 - Leader of the Pack.
Please note - replace all “Rex’s” and “he/he’d” with the name “Charlie” and you’ll have a more accurate picture of what went down in this scene.

Hudson and Rex S04E01 - Sid and Nancy PART B
Charlie: *looks to Rex for confirmation that they should stay in the shack* Rex: *is busy ripping the mannequin to shreds*
Hi, I'd like to report a theft by two (not very juvenile) delinquents.
Oh, and their vandalizing dog.
The teasing.
And there was only one... cot. That hardly qualifies as a bed.
And here is where we learn that Sarah turned down the offer from London and chose to stay with the SJPD. And she also requested to have some more time on the field, to my understanding.
Well, that's true but it's definitely not what you mean.
"I'm gonna bite you both."
Sarah: "I can tell you, I do not miss my desk." I don't miss your desk either.
"Yeah, it's good to see you out of the lab more often." You know, Charlie, there are other ways where you could get to see her more often...
Good job, you dork, you put her to sleep.
Rex: "Stay the fuck down, Charlie. I'll get you two together one way or another."
No, but... where was he going to go anyway? There was literally the cot and not much else.
Hehehehehehehehehehehehe (sorry, I am a child)
Charlie.exe has stopped working again.
"This. Sarah. On my shoulder."
His little smile! He's got everything he needs right there. Charlie, you fool, just because she fell asleep doesn't mean you can't try again tomorrow! Like, I'm glad for this season's angst because we barely had any, but at the same time I'm sad that he put himself through all this just because he wouldn't open his mouth.
Also, the lighting is atrocious but they're supposed to be sleeping, there's not much to be done about it.
Cozy.
"Uh-oh. Is my hand on his... Okay, no, it isn't. We can still pretend." If anyone tells me they didn't think about it, you're a lying liar.
Awkward. Also, this ship has had two bed scenes, neither of which was on their own bed.
The way Sarah says, "I was out cold" is definitely like she's trying to excuse the fact that she woke up practically on top of Charlie. Guys, one of you must have moved the pillow on Charlie's lap somehow. Or will you blame this on Rex as well?
What I'm thinking is that at some point Sarah moved in a way where her head fell on Charlie's lap and Charlie had to put the pillow there. Because, male anatomy.
I'll smack you two.
"Hey, lovebirds, we're here about two murders?"
"You never stop working, pal." Unfortunately.
Can you, though? I'm sorry, what is the reasoning behind leaving Jesse to go with a local cop and confront a guy that they think might have killed two people?
He definitely wanted to take a break himself lol. Getting old, Hudson.
"But you think a guy and his dog can handle [Sid and Nancy]?" Rex can handle anything.
Are the both of you deaf? How did she sneak up behind you?
Jesse the trouble magnet strikes again.
Charlie: "We should probably pay for that rye." You can't even steal half a bottle of rye in this day and age.
Well, the takedown was done by Charlie, so that's new.
Yes, you're a strong, macho man.
Yes, you are.
This is another Saint Pierre? Havre means port, I think.
Rex and Charlie are pretty much communicating via telepathy by now. I'm not really making fun of it, they do have a deep bond and pretty much know what each one is thinking.
Is this within the duties of an officer of the law?
That was a very good premiere. Probably my favorite in the show, up there with the S3 premiere. And you could already tell that there were changes on the show and someone was shaking things up, even without the information about the change in showrunner. Also, notice how the episode doesn't end with one of the show's favorite cheesy scenes.
Someone could assume that I liked Peter Mitchell's seasons more because he gave us Charah. No. I liked them more because there seemed to be a point in them, and mostly S4 (S5 too in some regard but I see it more in 4). The writing was improved in the majority of episodes, there was more care in what goes in the scenes, and he tried to steer the show a bit from the standalone episodic style where each episode carried nothing to the next one.
