[“Many years ago when the Channel Tunnel—connecting England and France—was being built (1986–1992), I got the chance to talk to a nurse working on the project on the English side. The project was big, deadlines were tight, and the workers, she told me, were suffering terrible conditions in the tunnel (a total of ten workers died during the construction (Smith 2015)). I wondered how complicated her job was as part of the onsite health personnel for such a large project. Not very. “The men mostly come to me complaining of terrible headaches,” she explained, “my job is to give them two aspirin and get them back down the tunnel as quickly as possible.”
Speaking of medicine under capitalism, Waitzkin (2000: 37) notes the fundamental contradiction between the perception of health as the ultimate “caring profession” and a society which establishes obstacles to the goal of alleviating “needless suffering and death,” for “[t]he social organization of medicine also fosters patterns of oppression that are antithetical to medicine’s more humane purposes. These patterns within medicine mirror and reproduce oppressive features of the wider society as well.”
Marxist scholars of medicine have theorised this replication of the wider class struggle within the health system in a number of ways. First, the priorities of the institution favour those of capitalism and the ruling class. For example, the modern system of health care emerged out of the need for a healthier and more reliable industrial workforce (Waitzkin 2000: 48); concern for the health of the working classes has tended to peak when there are imperialist wars to be fought, while the majority of current medical research prioritises lifestyle and “me too” cosmetic treatments for the global market rather than research on life-saving treatments for cancer and infectious diseases (see, e.g., Rapaport 2015). Second, the exploitative work relations within capitalist societies are replicated within the rigid hierarchy of medicine, with high-waged, upper middle-class consultants holding a great amount of decision-making power at the top, the lower middle-class nursing managers administering consultants’ needs in the middle, and—holding no power whatsoever and subject to the whims of health managers—the low-earning working-class orderlies and auxiliary staff at the bottom of the pyramid. Navarro (1976: 446) also notes the tendency of the medical profession to maintain and reinforce these class relations through “both the distribution of skills and knowledge and the control of technology” within the health service. Third, the health system functions as an institution of social control. That is, it reinforces the dominant values and norms of capitalism through its surveillance and labelling practices. In the words of Freidson (1988: 252), medicine acts as a “moral entrepreneur” to the extent that illness is viewed negatively and as something to be “eradicated or contained.” Even cancer, he states, is a social valuation by the profession, a moral rather than an objective judgement of the body, even if it is one “on which most people happen to agree” (Freidson 1988: 252).
Taking a Marxist approach to medicine includes recognising the policing function of the health professions to label and “medicalise” social deviance as illness, as well as reinforce the ideological prerogatives of capitalism as natural and common sense (for instance, through biomedical interventions focused on the individual rather than the wider social environment).
The social control function within psy-professional work practices and knowledge claims is reasonably easy to identify and has been a major focus of critical scholars—Marxist and otherwise—since the 1960s (see, e.g., Conrad 1975; Goffman 1961; Rosenhan 1973; Scheff 1966). The moral judgements that mental health experts make of people’s behaviour under the claims of scientific neutrality and objectivity allow them to sanction forms of deviance which run contrary to the prevailing social order. For example, Szasz (cited in Freidson 1988: 249) stated in 1964 that “agoraphobia is illness because one should not be afraid of open spaces. Homosexuality is an illness because heterosexuality is the social norm. Divorce is illness because it signals failure of marriage.”
Specifically, Marxist contentions of the psy-professions as agents of social control focus on the ways in which these experts contribute to the alienation of people from their own creative abilities. These experts utilise their knowledge claims on human behaviour to depoliticise attempts at social transformation at the group and community level, in turn acknowledging only individual solutions as possible. Consequently, states Parker (2007: 2), this “psychologisation of social life” performed by mental health workers “encourages people to think that the only possible change they could ever make would be in the way they dress and present themselves to others.”]

First Russian Military Operation Outside Its Territory. Ukrainian Armed Forces Combat Operations in Kursk Region.
You are watching the news from the weekly rally at the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Today is August 10, 2:30 PM.
The five-day war in Georgia from August 8 to 12, 2008, was Russia's first "special operation" outside its territory. Journalist Georgy Kobaladze says that Georgian authorities commemorate the anniversary on August 7, marking the Ossetian army's attack on a Georgian village near Tskhinvali as the beginning. https://www.svoboda.org/a/kapkan-i-vtorzhenie-15-let-s-nachala-rossiysko-gruzinskoy-voyny/32538906.html
The Ossetians trace the origins of the war with Georgia back to 1989, when the USSR was collapsing. https://www.bbc.com/russian/features-45106205
After the Dagomys Agreement, Georgia maintained difficult but peaceful relations with the regions of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia). In 2008, Georgia began to consider joining NATO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE7_p7WISo4
Matthew Bryza, who was involved in the US mediation plan for this war, told Dozhd in an interview how steps to contain Russia were removed during the process of working with the German Foreign Ministry. https://youtu.be/uK6pyU5DuQM?feature=shared&t=294
The human rights organization "Human Rights Watch" in its research discusses violations of humanitarian law on both sides, including systematic arson, robbery, and beatings of residents of Georgian villages by South Ossetian forces after the withdrawal of Georgian troops. https://www.hrw.org/reports/georgia0109ruweb.pdf
In 2021, the Strasbourg court found that Russia exercised control over Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region and therefore bears responsibility for these violations. The Russian representative stated in court that the fragments of the Iskander missile used by Russia, presented by the Georgian side, were stolen, dismantled, and planted by the CIA. https://www.bbc.com/russian/features-55737376
Volunteer and activist David Katsarava said in an interview with Dozhd: "For us, the war against Ukraine is a continuation of ours." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK6pyU5DuQM
Since August 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been conducting an operation in the Kursk region. The combat zone has already reached 430 square kilometers. The YouTube channel "The Insider" reported briefly on the situation: people are evacuating on their own, Putin is distributing the usual 10 thousand rubles, and Russian generals ignored reports of Ukrainian forces concentrating on the border. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vbljcaYy1k
On August 9, politician Yulia Navalnaya stated: "Putin's war has finally come to Russia." She addressed those aiding Putin's war efforts: "No one will forget what you did to our country. You are working for a killer, but it's never too late to stop." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-HoR9OJ6mU
On August 7, Vladimir Osechkin held a stream on his YouTube channel in memory of Oleksandr Ishchenko, a member of the Azov regiment who was killed in Russian captivity, and called for information about this crime to be sent to him for investigation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBi3sO5Rq5M
Azov commander Svyatoslav Palamar published a forensic medical examination report on his Facebook page confirming the brutal murder and violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/FWoEAf9XxGmrShd2/
On January 12 of this year, the Memorial Human Rights Center recognized prisoners of war from the Ukrainian Azov Regiment as political prisoners, as they consider the Supreme Court's decision to recognize the Azov Regiment as a terrorist organization to be unlawful. https://memopzk.org/news/my-schitaem-politzaklyuchyonnymi-voennoplennyh-iz-ukrainskogo-polka-azov/

Magicka (F2U/PWYW)
I've been wanting to do a minimalist, high-contrast skin for a while just because they tend to be a bit on the simpler side, color-palette wise. Since I've been re-binging The Order on Netflix lately, it kind of influenced the theme of the skin a bit. (In case it wasn't obvious, lol.)

Bullshit is Spreading and How to Volunteer in NC
I've noticed a lot of youtubers are purposefully NOT mentioning all of the different organizations that are VETTED BY NORTH CAROLINA'S EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT that you can sign up to volunteer with TODAY to help Asheville.
They're plugging the 501c's of their buddies and it's making me seething mad because there's also a bunch of youtubers spreading absolute bullshit about how "The government has completely abandoned Asheville and Unicoi!!!" when that's Absolutely Not the case.
Po**ce as much as they're contemptible are centralizing donations at approved locations with infrastructure to handle volunteers that can distribute them and the reason random ass people can't just use the roads for direct donations is because they're trying to keep it to registered volunteers that have clear and specific orders so that they know where people are and what they're doing.
That makes search easier and it makes things like clearing roads easier. It also makes it easier to keep an eye on volunteers for their own safety.
Literally if people want to volunteer they can go to the 211 website or the North Carolina Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster website to pick somewhere to volunteer.
As long as you've signed up with an organization that's doing work on the ground they'll let you in and let you use the roads that State and Volunteers have access to.
These youtubers are also spreading blatant misinformation with a bent towards trashing the democratic party's response to the disaster and trying to uplift snakes like J.D. Vance.
There's a newer website that the state has made to try to combat misinformation
But of course MAGA brainwash victims in the general neighboring region (the population majority mind you) are believing this bullshit.
Here's the info from the state website:
(It starts with the facts then states the Rumor that they disprove after)
There are many false reports and misinformation being shared on social media about the response to Hurricane Helene. Additional reliable information regarding Helene can be found at www.ncdps.gov/helene.
The public should get information about storm response and impacts from trusted sources like the State Emergency Response Team, National Weather Service, and other federal, state, county and local government sites. Be aware that Artificial Intelligence or AI-generated images are being circulated on social media that do not depict conditions on the ground.
Do your part to the stop the spread of rumors by doing three easy things:
• Find trusted sources of information.
• Share information from trusted sources.
• Discourage others from sharing information from unverified sources and question where information is coming from.
Stop the Spread of Misinformation
FACT: False information is being widely shared on social media channels, including AI-generated content and images. Nefarious actors and those with ill intent may be taking advantage of this situation by spreading false information. The public is encouraged to find trusted sources of information; share information from those trusted sources; and to discourage others from sharing information from unverified sources.
FACT: The NC State Emergency Response Team, which includes local, state, federal and military partners, along with power and cell phone agencies, private businesses and volunteer organizations, is working around the clock to save lives and provide humanitarian relief to Western North Carolina residents. This is a coordinated effort aimed at saving lives and to speed recovery for residents, businesses and municipalities in the impacted areas.
RUMOR: The state and federal government are doing nothing to respond to the ongoing disaster in Western North Carolina.
FACT: Roadways in Western North Carolina are still dangerous and impassible in many places. A recent landslide shows the potential for more serious incidents. In some areas, traffic is being rerouted to maintain availability of roadways for emergency response, coordinated disaster relief efforts and local traffic.
RUMOR: Checkpoints are being established and donations and volunteers are being turned away from Western North Carolina.
FACT:
The state is encouraging financial donations to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund at www.nc.gov/donate, or to a NC Volunteer Organization Active in Disaster.
A list of these organizations can be found at www.ncvoad.org/members.
The state is working with these organizations to stand up logistical operations to coordinate the collection and distribution of countless physical donations from across the state and country. Donations are not being confiscated by state and federal officials.
RUMOR: The state is discouraging donations in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Physical donations are being confiscated by state and federal officials.
FACT: Coordinated volunteer disaster relief efforts are needed in Western North Carolina. We strongly encourage neighbors to continue helping neighbors in impacted areas.
Those wishing to volunteer should register at www.nc.gov/volunteer in order to be connected with a NC Volunteer Organization Active in Helene response.
Please do not self-deploy to Western North Carolina unless you are working with an organization already providing services on the ground.
RUMOR: The state and federal government are discouraging volunteerism in Western North Carolina.
FACT: The FAA is not restricting access for recovery operations. The FAA is coordinating closely with state and local officials to make sure everyone is operating safely in very crowded and congested airspace. Learn more.
RUMOR: The FAA is restricting access to the airspace for Helene rescue and recovery operations.
FACT: FEMA is not controlling any airports in western North Carolina. Airport Managers and Airport Sponsors are the legal entities in charge of operating airports, even in Helene response. FEMA staff may be present at airports as they deploy supplies and stage for Helene response. Airports are critical for accessing impacted NC communities for response and recovery efforts for partners including FEMA.
RUMOR: FEMA is operating and controlling airports in western North Carolina.
Also - at this time MONEY is preferred over physical in-person volunteer work.
Please keep in mind infrastructure for electricity and water and sanitation is damaged.
That makes it more difficult to manage volunteers.
It's encouraged that you donate to the the state and to organizations working on the ground so that they can work alongside the military and federal resources to restore infrastructure in the area.
If you're a Modern Country fan then good news: Luke Combs, Eric Church, Billy Strings, and James Taylor are holding a
Helene Relief Concert in Charlotte NC on Oct. 26th!
You can donate money AND see a concert at the same time.
If you don't like country but love someone who does, consider asking if they'd like a ticket as an early Christmas or Birthday present or something.
Edit to add:
For people insisting that ONLY $750 is being offered to Hurricane victims:
The $750 is just for immediate food and gas and personal hygiene supply needs.
Victims have to apply with FEMA in affected locations to have assessment of damages and evaluation of funding with a top end of about $40,000 or so possible for Housing/shelter.
I wouldn't be surprised if people used the money to move to neighboring towns honestly.
Problem is that people affected in various areas and people unaffected in the region are wholesale believing the lie they are being told by people they trust that victims are only being given $750.
And the actual funding will absolutely run out if people don't apply for it.
And when they're being convinced that they've been left behind they're not applying for help.
So the people that actually know better (wealthy people with family or friend connections to people in state govt and thus correct information) will know and get to apply for funding for housing and take advantage of speed while others are reeling with disinformation.
Make sure your loved ones apply for everything they can.

Lo-Fi Love: Creating the Perfect 2010s Indie-Inspired Mixtape 🎶
Hey, mixtape maestro! 💿 Ready to dive into the world of lo-fi and indie sounds from the 2010s? Whether you're crafting the ultimate nostalgic playlist or just looking to channel those chill vibes, creating a mixtape that captures the essence of this era is all about blending raw emotion with cool, laid-back sounds. Let’s get into it and make a mixtape that feels like a warm hug from the past.
1. Start with the Essentials: Lo-Fi and Indie Touchstones
To set the stage for your mixtape, you’ll want to include some key tracks and artists that defined the lo-fi and indie scenes of the 2010s. These songs are your foundation, bringing that authentic, nostalgic vibe to your mix.
Lo-Fi Essentials: Think dreamy beats and mellow melodies. Artists like Mac DeMarco, Toro y Moi, and Washed Out were masters of this chill, hazy sound. Include tracks that showcase their signature lo-fi production and laid-back rhythms.
Indie Icons: For that indie edge, mix in songs from bands like Tame Impala, Vampire Weekend, and Arcade Fire. Their innovative sounds and catchy hooks helped shape the indie landscape of the 2010s, making them perfect additions to your mixtape.
2. Craft a Flow: Build a Journey with Your Tracks
The beauty of a great mixtape is how it takes listeners on a journey. You want to create a seamless flow, moving from one track to the next in a way that feels natural and engaging.
Start with a Bang: Kick off your mixtape with a track that sets the tone. Choose something with a memorable melody or a captivating beat to grab attention right away. This could be a standout hit or a hidden gem that encapsulates the lo-fi vibe.
Mix Up the Pace: Vary the tempo and mood of your tracks to keep things interesting. Transition from upbeat indie anthems to more mellow lo-fi tunes, creating a dynamic listening experience. This helps maintain engagement and keeps the mixtape feeling fresh.
End on a High Note: Finish strong with a track that leaves a lasting impression. This could be a powerful anthem, a heartwarming ballad, or a song with an unexpected twist. Make sure it wraps up your mixtape on a memorable note.
3. Add Personal Touches: Reflect Your Unique Taste
While it’s great to include iconic tracks, don’t forget to add your personal touch to the mixtape. This is where you can showcase your unique taste and make the mix truly your own.
Deep Cuts and Hidden Gems: Include a few lesser-known tracks or deep cuts that reflect your personal favorites. These could be underrated songs from well-known artists or tracks from obscure bands that deserve more attention.
Personal Stories: If you’re sharing your mixtape with friends, consider adding a personal note about why you included certain songs. Share memories or anecdotes related to the tracks to give the mixtape an extra layer of meaning.
4. Perfect the Aesthetic: Lo-Fi Visuals and Themes
The visual and thematic elements of your mixtape are just as important as the music. Create a cohesive look and feel that complements the lo-fi and indie vibes of your playlist.
Cover Art: Design a mixtape cover that reflects the aesthetic of the 2010s indie scene. Use vintage-inspired graphics, soft pastel colors, or retro fonts to capture that lo-fi vibe. Websites like Canva can help you create eye-catching cover art even if you’re not a design pro.
Track List Design: Present your track list in a way that feels authentic to the era. Consider using a handwritten font or incorporating elements like cassette tapes or vintage records for a nostalgic touch.
5. Share the Love: Distribute Your Mixtape
Once your mixtape is ready, it’s time to share it with the world! Whether you’re giving it to friends or sharing it online, make sure it gets the love it deserves.
Digital Platforms: Upload your mixtape to platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, or Bandcamp. Create a playlist and share the link on social media to reach a wider audience.
Physical Copies: For a more personal touch, consider making physical copies of your mixtape. Burn it onto CDs or create custom mixtape cassettes for a nostalgic keepsake.
Final Thoughts, Babe: Embrace the Lo-Fi Magic
Creating the perfect 2010s indie-inspired mixtape is all about capturing the magic of lo-fi and indie music while adding your personal touch. Embrace the nostalgia, experiment with different sounds, and let your mixtape tell a story. Whether you’re reminiscing about the past or introducing a new generation to these iconic sounds, your mixtape is a celebration of the music that defined a decade.
So grab those tracks, get creative with your playlist, and let the lo-fi love flow. Happy mixing! 🎶✨

Hey, I've recently discovered a Youtube channel, The Financial Diet, and they have some really good material. I've mostly been listening to the stuff about how domestic chores aren't evenly distributed in marriage. Whether a woman chooses to be a career woman or a housewife, she's still getting the short end of the stick and will usually bare the majority of the weight for the household. I'd recommend this video in particular, Solving The Problem Of The Adult Toddler Husband. They bring up some really good points that have sat with me since I first watched it. For example, a group of very accomplished women left the house for 2 hours and WWIII broke out at home because their husbands couldn't manage. All the women had to abandon their plans and go tend to the house. Hearing stuff like this gives me pause. I'd really like to get married and be a mother, but it just seems like a bad business move, no matter the type of man a woman marries. I'm not the sacrificial type--I want to be a mother and a wife and still maintain my own identity. Just thought I'd share this here because I live in a region where I'm not allowed to bring up these issues lest I sound like a, feminist (*gasp*).
Hi love! Yes, I think The Financial Diet channel is great. Chelsea has some great, easy-to-understand tips regarding personal finance/money management, and I love her guest contributors/podcast guest episodes. Oh, this notion highlighted in this episode is SO true IRL. A 2008 study found that husbands add 7 hours of housework a week to their wives' plates, while wives decreased a husband's household chores by 1 hour per week.
Check out Melanie Hamlett on TikTok if you want to dive further into this topic. She labels the man in this dynamic under the patriarchy as "King Baby," and it gets me every time!
The Commercialization Of Intimate Life by Arlie Russell Hochschild is a wonderful read on this topic (and the most intersectional text I've found on the subject).
Glad to share more on this topic in the future if there's interest xx

Theories on the Philosophy of Power
The philosophy of power encompasses various theories that seek to understand the nature, sources, and implications of power in human societies. Here are some key theories in the philosophy of power:
Pluralist Theory: Pluralist theory posits that power is dispersed among multiple groups and individuals in society, and no single entity holds absolute power. According to this view, power is decentralized, and different groups compete for influence through political, economic, and social channels.
Elite Theory: Elite theory contends that power is concentrated in the hands of a small elite group within society, such as political leaders, business magnates, or cultural elites. According to this perspective, elites wield disproportionate influence over political decisions and societal outcomes, often at the expense of the broader population.
Marxist Theory: Marxist theory emphasizes the role of economic power in shaping society and maintains that power relations are fundamentally determined by class dynamics. According to Marxists, the bourgeoisie (owners of capital) hold power over the proletariat (working class) through the control of economic resources, leading to exploitation and inequality.
Foucauldian Theory: Drawing from the work of Michel Foucault, Foucauldian theory examines power as a diffuse and pervasive force that operates through disciplinary mechanisms and social institutions. Power is not solely held by individuals or groups but is embedded in societal structures and practices, shaping norms, behaviors, and subjectivities.
Feminist Theory: Feminist theories of power highlight the gendered dimensions of power relations and critique patriarchal structures that perpetuate male dominance and female subordination. Feminist scholars analyze how power operates within families, workplaces, and political systems, and advocate for gender equality and social justice.
Poststructuralist Theory: Poststructuralist theorists, such as Jacques Derrida and Judith Butler, challenge essentialist notions of power and instead focus on power as performative and discursive. Power is understood as fluid and contingent, constructed through language, discourse, and social practices, rather than being inherent or fixed.
Network Theory: Network theory conceptualizes power as emerging from relational connections and interactions between actors within complex networks. Power is distributed unevenly across network structures, with some nodes or actors exerting greater influence due to their centrality, connectivity, or resource control.
Rational Choice Theory: Rational choice theory models individual behavior as driven by rational calculations of costs and benefits, including the pursuit of power. According to this approach, individuals seek to maximize their utility or achieve their goals by strategically deploying resources and forming alliances to enhance their power position.
Critical Theory: Critical theories of power, influenced by the Frankfurt School and critical social theory, emphasize the role of ideology, culture, and social institutions in perpetuating power inequalities. Critical theorists analyze how power operates through processes of domination, hegemony, and ideological control, and advocate for emancipatory social change.
Intersectional Theory: Intersectional theory considers how power operates at the intersections of multiple axes of identity, including race, gender, class, sexuality, and ability. This approach recognizes that power relations are shaped by intersecting systems of oppression and privilege, and emphasizes the importance of addressing multiple forms of inequality simultaneously.
These theories offer diverse perspectives on the nature and dynamics of power, illuminating its complexities and providing insights into its effects on individuals, groups, and societies.

Curious about your apocalypse au... 👀
I'll open w/ the fact that this is a zombie apocalypse AU
Characteristics of an infected individual shown below (scratched this out really fast for the purpose of this post)
Site A - constant leaking of orifaces, mostly from eyes and mouth.
Site B - destabilization of body; lesions may appear
Site C - spines growing from wounds
Site D - darkening of ink + involuntary change in chromatophores
*also not mentioned in diagram but the white in Callie's tentacles is directly related to the involuntary change in chromatophores as well as the dehydration making it impossible for inkfish to hold artificial dyes in their tentacles/ink.
I'll note (so that this au makes any amount of sense) that I hc that inkfish biology works via like. A central core crystal is the individual and that crystal controls a finite amount of ink that will function as a specific cell when necessary + inkfish are more a membrane containing this ink than like an animal constantly producing more and more ink. Like, splatting is the destabilization of the membrane due to infavorable (acidic) conditions or something like that. And the change between forms is just the stretching of this membrane, swimming is the dissolution of the membrane and the movement of the crystal itself, etc etc. Idk how factual any of that might be but that's what I'm saying.
Anyway back to the fun part, what triggers this disease to spread is a period of uninterrupted rainfall (spanning six weeks of downpour). With inkfish cities being equipped for desert conditions and unprepared for prolonged rainfall and humidity, there is a lot of flooding and a lot of moisture trapped in places that ordinarily would not encounter these conditions. This is worsened by the storm being so prolonged that the air doesn't stay cold. Resultantly, bacteria and mold grow at highly accelerated rates.
The flooding takes a long time to get under control and even begin to drain, so there is a sort of tide pool effect in the desert. Lots of microflora grow, and many oases spring up especially near Splatsville (which become tourist attractions) but there is also an explosion of microfauna.
There is a chain of events specifically responsible for the disease's creation, but that's relatively unimportant rn
Timeline-wise it's kind of like annoying trying to find a cute spot in canon for it + I think canon events r like largely negligible for the purpose of this so like idgaf I'll say right before Splat 3 events happen. I haven't written out a definitive timeline for everyone yet but I'll talk a little bit about each settlement:
Marie is by herself.
Shiver and Eight are both in Splatsville and establish a stable settlement in the city. It's based out of the subway station, and is very small. At most there are around 12 individuals and it is semi-exclusive (aka. be able to bring something to the table), though they will go out of the way to aid individual families/people they run into. Between the Splatsville settlements there are actually like genuine turf wars between settlements (fights over buildings potentially full of resources, shelter, etc) which is the reason for this exclusivity.
Frye and Big Man are both relatively off-grid, acting more to connect smaller countryside settlements. Big Man works more toward diplomacy while Frye works more toward gathering and distributing supplies, leading/overseeing most of the runs into Splatsville. Frye has her eels run notes around for her in the channels of the newly-wetlands. The other agents are also technically connected to this settlement.
Marina and Pearl established a settlement on Pearl's property as it's on a hill and relatively safe from shamblers because they cannot tolerate any amount of water (I hc that healthy inkfish can tolerate being in water if they have enough ink in their bodies; with maintaining an ink tank to fuel their weapons taking any of the ink not immediately necessary to keep an inkfish alive, this is why jumping into water splats them). This settlement is not very exclusive. There are efforts being put into studying the disease, but given Marina is a combat/computer scientist and not a doctor, the going is slow. There is also a radio signal put out every 6 hours by Marina, recited both in Inkling and Octarian.
Those r like the basics of the AU, feel free to ask questions :) I've thought about this a fair amt and have a lot of useless info lol
#I'll spit out my redesigns for Shiver Eight and Frye later maybe idk#splatoon 3#splatoon au#apocalypse au#callie cuttlefish#callie splatoon#my art#shinjiist#splatoon fanart#legato fanart#splat3#digital art#art#artists on tumblr#bye orz

Over the last two weeks I’ve gradually read two chapters from Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake. One chapter was Chapter 2 Living Labyrinths where Sheldrake discussed the nature of a fungus’ mycelium networks. This includes how a fungus grows, how it treats spatial problems, and the nature of fungus as a decentralized organism. The other chapter I read was Chapter 6 World Wide Webs, where Sheldrake talks about the ways fungus interacts with the natural world around it.
CHAPTER 2:
A fungus’ mycelium network is made up of a “swarm of hyphal tips” (in Sheldrake’s words pg . 53). This network is the true body of the fungus, with the stereotypical representation of them being the organism’s fruiting body, formed by a group of hyphae inflated with water. The fruiting of fungi has incredible potential force, with this growth being documented as capable of lifting up to 286 lbs (130kg). These hyphal tips control the growth of the fungus, with no central brain or body to control the movement of each hyphal tip. An experiment mentioned that helped me to best understand this was the Francis Alys performance, where a hole was poked in a can full of paint with Alys traversing a city with the paint trailing behind them. In this performance, Alys would be the hyphal tip, determining where the paint will trail to next, with all the paint of before trailing behind them. However, unlike the paint, a fungus can retract hyphal tips and reprioritize growth when it encounters greater resources in another direction or area. As said by Sheldrake, fungi are “flexible networks that ceaselessly remodel themselves” (pg. 76).
All of these ideas are incredibly interesting to me. The intelligence of fungus is incredibly hard to conceptualize, as the organism itself is hard to understand. It has no central mind or central body, and yet it’s capable of making decisions on how to control a multitude of facets within itself. Each hyphal tip seems to manage itself, and yet is managed by the whole body as well. This body isn’t finite, and can grow almost infinitely, making the body inconstant. It’s also interesting that each part of the fungus is equally itself as another part. You cut off a section of the mycelium network and both parts are equally the same mycelium. However, you cut off the brain from the rest of the nervous system, and a human being is gone. It's interesting to think of a network with no center that can maintain itself without a center point for decision making. Rather, a fungus is a network purely for the transportation of information and, more importantly, resources; to take water from one area and distribute it throughout the whole organism. We explore this idea more in Chapter 6.
CHAPTER 6:
In this chapter, Sheldrake talks about how fungus interacts with the plant life around it. He starts by discussing Montropa, a plant that survives purely off of the resources provided by the mycelium network connected to it. When studied, scientists realized that mycelium isn’t only a network within itself; for sharing resources amongst its own body, and information along its own channels. It can also distribute resources amongst the plants it networks with. Fungal connections brought Montropa all the carbon it needed to survive, to the degree that it doesn’t even photosynthesize anymore, having lost its chlorophyll completely. This changes our ideas of plants completely. While plants can form root grafts on rare occasions, before it was thought that they all existed purely for competition, the same way animals live. This is true to a certain extent. Plants do compete for resources of light, space, and water. But despite this competition, fungal connections turn forests into communities. All these individuals fighting for survival begin to collaborate, a sign of intelligence that I’d only ever seen in animals before. It's interesting then that collaboration is such a universal part of the natural world, and such an integral part of intelligence on Earth.

here's a feature that the more advanced digital radio cloaks could have (besides improved range, encryption, multi-channel support, and custom connection graphs with tuned delays and stuff) a loss of signal script. the user could set up custom loss of signal scripts for their individual members and then in the event of an unexpected disconnect it could help keep the singleton calm and keep them from behaving unsafely. an extremely simple one that just plays back or loops prerecorded mindsound would probably be a lot better than nothing. a particularly clever tine might set up a repeating mantra of instructions with gaps between for responses from the singleton that are intended to be replayed later (so the recording behaves like drum memory does in some early computer architectures). more advanced ones could set up the singleton with the virtual computer interface tine as a sort of odd duo. if you go to advanced it might end up being like *connection dropped, emulating all other members* and then the pack has to do a git merge when the singleton regains connection (probably the emulated members stick around as log file like things that can be interacted with but tend not to chime in of their own accord without something important to say). there's a certain tipping point in technology where the interesting stories can happen and i think it's usually right around the development of new capabilities. (although, imagine a multiplanetary choir in the mid beyond linked by ultrawave - their navy could be frighteningly competent for the depth, especially if they found good solutions to the routing problem of distributed computation)
Oh I love this! There's room here for some really good characterization - a lost tine in the Beyond dealing with a partially-emulated sense of self, an old pack maintaining a "thought cabinet" of emulated past members and passing it on to offspring... I definitely agree also about crossing technological tipping points and all the rapid change that can cause being being a really fun story topic - a tine-human expedition from the top of the Slow Zone into the Beyond in a flotilla of ramscoop ships, or a first colony Out There... these could be good story hooks for some fic I think.
(Brief fill-in for those who haven't read the books: tines are a species where each "individual" is the gestalt of a pack of three to eight sort of wolflike creatures, each critter's on-its-own-nonsentient thought combining into a conscious whole by a kind of distributed ultrasound 'telepathy'. A choir is what happens when lots more tines than can form a discrete individual pack live together - they form a shifting and disorganized morass of thought that is... sort of alien to both discrete packs and humans.)
I have found myself thinking about how intelligent choirs in the beyond would act too... I suppose you can imagine lots of different ways it could go. I like to think you could get some kind of prosperous coexistence, possibly even with packs sometimes choosing to temporarily dissolve themselves into choirs as a sabbatical, or to assist with some great task, and coming back with new insights (and sometimes coming back very much changed by the experience). Sort of a little bit like the Pattern Jugglers from Revelation Space, maybe. Perhaps, if what Johanna says in Children of the Sky about the way the choir on the raft conceptualizes things continues to hold true, sentient choirs shoot off into modes of consciousness that are undoubtedly sentient but also still weird to us - like the Powers in miniature.
Of course, a fun sort of horror take on it would be a sort of hard-takeoff choir coming into existence accidentally, like a version of the Blight just for tines. The last remaining individual pack on a first expedition to the far Beyond/low Transcend, cowering in a corridor on a hab orbiting a cold red star... feeling the call, no, the demand of its reconstituted peers, the overwhelmingly more powerful consequence of a sudden relaxation on limits on just how complex and distributed a mind can be...
Also I would really like to chat in realtime about tine worldbuilding with you sometime, anon! My direct messages are always open if you'd like to drop in. No pressure if not, of course.

What is Headless WordPress and When Should You Use It? | Island Wizards
As businesses evolve and digital experiences become more sophisticated, traditional website setups are often not enough to meet modern demands. Enter headless WordPress—a flexible, high-performance solution that offers better control over both the front-end and back-end. If you're wondering when and why you should consider this approach, we’ve got you covered.
What is Headless WordPress?
In a traditional WordPress setup, the content management system (CMS) is tightly coupled with the front-end display, meaning the website's content and its design are intertwined. However, in a headless WordPress setup, the CMS is decoupled from the front-end. The “head” (front-end) is removed, allowing developers to use APIs to push content to various platforms like websites, mobile apps, or any digital interface.
In simpler terms, with headless WordPress, WordPress manages the back-end content, while the front-end is managed separately, usually using technologies like React, Vue.js, or Angular.
Benefits of Headless WordPress
Flexibility Across PlatformsHeadless WordPress allows you to push content to multiple platforms. Whether you're delivering content to a mobile app, a website, or even a wearable device, this system enables you to maintain a single content repository.
Faster PerformanceBy decoupling the front-end from the back-end, your site can load faster and more efficiently. Headless WordPress websites can often use faster, modern JavaScript frameworks for front-end rendering, improving user experience and speed.
ScalabilityFor businesses that plan to scale their online presence, headless architecture offers a future-proof solution. Content can be reused and distributed across different channels without major changes to the back-end.
Enhanced SecuritySince the front-end and back-end are decoupled, potential vulnerabilities in the front-end won’t necessarily compromise your back-end. This makes headless WordPress websites inherently more secure.
Customization FreedomUnlike traditional WordPress, where your design choices may be limited to available themes, headless WordPress allows complete freedom to design a custom front-end using the latest technologies.
When Should You Use Headless WordPress?
At Island Wizards, we recommend using headless WordPress in the following situations:
Multiple Channels: If your business requires content distribution across websites, mobile apps, and other platforms, headless WordPress is the way to go.
High-Traffic Websites: If you expect high levels of traffic and need your site to load lightning-fast, headless architecture can deliver optimized performance and better user experiences.
Complex, Custom Front-End: If you have specific front-end design requirements that can’t be easily handled by traditional WordPress themes, headless WordPress offers unmatched flexibility and customization.
Security Concerns: Businesses that are security-conscious may benefit from the enhanced protection offered by a decoupled system.
Headless WordPress at Island Wizards
At Island Wizards, we specialize in building headless WordPress websites that combine the power of a flexible back-end with modern front-end technologies. Our experts can help you create a lightning-fast, secure, and scalable website that meets the unique demands of your business.

Understanding Subtle Energy: The Life Force that Shapes Reality
Subtle energy, often referred to as life force, chi, prana, or mana, is a concept that has permeated mystical, spiritual, and healing traditions across the globe for millennia. This unseen yet powerful force is believed to animate all living things, connecting the physical and spiritual realms. Energy Vampyres rely on it for their spiritual survival and growth. This essay explores the nature of subtle energy, its relationship to the human body and spirit, and how it is perceived, manipulated, and utilized by those who can sense and interact with it.
The Nature of Subtle Energy
In terms of energy vampyrism, subtle energy is the essential force that flows through and animates all living beings. It is not merely a metaphysical construct but a fundamental element that bridges the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds. While subtle energy is invisible to the naked eye, it is perceptible to those who have heightened spiritual awareness or psychic abilities. This energy circulates within and around the body, forming a field commonly known as the aura. It flows through energy channels, interacting with energy centers (or chakras) within the body to sustain vitality and consciousness.
Subtle energy is mutable and fluid, constantly in motion and capable of being directed, transformed, and absorbed. It is the spiritual "breath of life" that keeps physical and subtle bodies connected, ensuring the balance between matter and spirit. Many spiritual traditions see this energy as a divine or universal force that not only sustains individual life but also interconnects all living beings. This interconnectedness allows for energy exchange between people, animals, and even the environment.
In the context of vampyrism, subtle energy is a primary source of spiritual nourishment for those who have an altered or incomplete energy system. Energy Vampyres must feed on the life force of others to sustain themselves, as their own systems are unable to produce enough of this energy on their own. This dynamic introduces the key concept of energy manipulation and how it can be used for survival, healing, and spiritual transformation.
The Energy Body: Aura and Chakras
The human energy body is the conduit through which subtle energy flows. This subtle body is composed of an aura, a multilayered energy field that surrounds the physical form, and various energy centers (chakras) that regulate and distribute energy throughout the body. These components work together to maintain the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of an individual.
The aura is often seen as the first line of defense for the body, absorbing, filtering, and sometimes reflecting external energies. It extends beyond the skin, acting as a buffer between a person and their environment. In the case of energy Vampyres, their aura is described as being more active than that of ordinary individuals. Their aura often has tendrils or some other type of extensions that reach out to absorb energy from those around them. These tendrils are subtle energy pathways that facilitate the draw of life force, and they may even extend over long distances to tap into energy from other people or places.
Chakras, meanwhile, are key energy centers located at specific points along the body. In many traditions, there are typically six to seven major chakras, each associated with different physical and spiritual functions. These energy centers act as junctions where physical and spiritual energies converge and are processed.
Each chakra is responsible for certain aspects of a person’s well-being, from survival instincts and emotions to spiritual insight and communication. For energy Vampyres, the manipulation of these energy centers is essential, as they often lack the ability to sustain their own energy. Their feeding techniques often involve tapping into the chakras of others to draw energy and maintain their own vitality. This is especially true for deep feeding, where a vampyre might connect directly to multiple chakras to absorb the full spectrum of life energy.
Perception of Subtle Energy
Perceiving subtle energy is a skill that requires heightened sensitivity to the spiritual realm. Some individuals are naturally more attuned to this energy than others, while others develop this awareness through spiritual practice, training, or life experiences. This heightened perception manifests in various ways, including the ability to see auras, feel energy fluctuations, or even hear subtle vibrations, a skill known as clairaudience.
Those who can perceive subtle energy often describe it as a sensation or feeling, rather than something visual. It may manifest as tingling in the hands, warmth or coldness, or a sense of pressure when energy is directed at or near them. In certain cases, especially with energy Vampyres, the sensation of drawing energy can be compared to the act of breathing—taking in energy as one would inhale air. This analogy highlights the importance of subtle energy as a life-sustaining force.
In more advanced cases, individuals can visually perceive the different layers of the aura, as well as the quality of the energy flowing through and around a person. Vibrant auras may indicate good health and strong life force, while dull or fractured auras can suggest illness, weakness, or spiritual imbalance. Energy Vampyres, in particular, may be able to identify potential donors by sensing the quality of their energy, avoiding those whose energy is tainted or depleted.
Energy Manipulation: Feeding, Healing, and Protection
One of the most significant aspects of subtle energy is its ability to be manipulated. There are various ways in which energy can be directed, absorbed, and transformed, both by energy Vampyres and by those who work with subtle energy in other spiritual or mystical practices.
For energy Vampyres, feeding is the primary form of energy manipulation. This involves drawing life force from others to sustain their own energy needs. The act of feeding can take many forms, from subtle and unconscious draws during social interactions to intentional and deep feeding sessions involving physical or psychic contact. Feeding techniques can range from "skimming" energy from a group of people to creating deep connections with an individual’s energy body to draw out more concentrated life force. Feeding is not inherently harmful when done with consent, but improper feeding can lead to energy depletion in the donor, which can manifest as fatigue, emotional distress, or even physical illness.
In addition to feeding, subtle energy can be used for healing. Just as Vampyres can draw energy, they can also direct energy into others to restore balance or promote recovery. This healing process involves channeling life force into another person, often focusing on their energy centers or aura. Balancing and strengthening these centers can help alleviate spiritual or emotional blockages, allowing the energy to flow freely once again.
Protective techniques are another form of energy manipulation. Shielding, a method used to block or repel unwanted energies, is often employed by those sensitive to subtle forces. By visualizing an energetic barrier around themselves, an individual can protect their aura from being influenced or drained by others. For energy Vampyres, shielding is particularly important to avoid taking in harmful or unwanted energies during feeding or energy exchanges.
The Role of Subtle Energy in Spiritual Awakening
Subtle energy plays a critical role in the spiritual development of energy Vampyres and other Awakened individuals. The term "Awakened" refers to those who have become aware of their spiritual nature and the subtle forces at work in their lives. This awakening is often accompanied by a heightened sensitivity to energy, leading to the ability to perceive and manipulate the life force in ways that are transformative.
Awakening to subtle energy can be a powerful and sometimes traumatic experience, as individuals begin to perceive realities that were previously hidden from them. This heightened awareness can bring about spiritual growth, as well as challenges related to managing and maintaining energy balance. For energy Vampyres, the awakening process often involves the realization of their need to feed on external sources of energy, as well as the development of ethical practices to manage this need.
Subtle energy is not only a tool for sustaining life but also a pathway to greater understanding and transformation. By working with subtle energy, individuals can achieve a deeper connection to the spiritual realm, fostering personal growth, healing, and a sense of purpose. For Vampyres, this connection is crucial to maintaining balance between their physical and spiritual selves, allowing them to thrive in both worlds.
Conclusion
Subtle energy is the invisible yet essential force that sustains life and connects the physical and spiritual realms. For energy Vampyres, this energy is a vital source of nourishment, enabling them to survive and thrive. Understanding the flow and manipulation of subtle energy offers insights into the nature of life, the interconnectedness of all beings, and the transformative potential of spiritual awakening. Whether used for feeding, healing, or protection, subtle energy is a powerful and dynamic force that shapes both the physical and metaphysical worlds. Through its study and mastery, individuals can unlock profound insights into the mysteries of existence, ultimately achieving balance and enlightenment in their journey.

MODERN HISTORY
2ND BLOG _ The Indus Valley Civilization / HISTORICAL EVENT
The Indus Valley Civilization was one of the oldest urban civilizations, dating from 2500 BC to 1500 BC. Although research is still being done on how they handled the issue of water conservation in this interesting part of the world, some advanced water conservation and management practices can be named. In fact, the covered drains that run under the streets of the ruins of Mohenjodaro and Harappa show that their inhabitants were well versed in hygiene. The relevance that exists in relation to the problems of excessive water consumption and the events that occurred within this civilization are interestingly compatible, since at this point in the blog is where my theory is that in ancient times, water consumption was not as excessive as it is today, the reasons for this is not only because there was less population at that time, but because people knew how to distribute and appreciate the resources provided by the earth and they respected it very much.
The Indus Valley Civilization, which flourished along the banks of the Indus River and other parts of western and northern India about 5,000 years ago, had one of the most sophisticated urban water supply and sanitation systems in the world. Ruins such as Mohenjo-Daro in Sindh and Dholavira in Gujarat had settlements with some of the most sophisticated sanitation systems in the ancient world. They included drainage canals, rainwater harvesting, and street sewers. Sewage was disposed of through underground drains built with precisely laid bricks, and an elaborate water management system with numerous reservoirs was established. In the drainage systems, the drains from the houses were connected to the wider public drains laid along the main streets. The drains had holes at regular intervals for cleaning and inspection. Water from bathrooms on the roofs and upper floors was carried through closed terracotta pipes or open chutes that emptied into the street drains.
Some of the cities of this civilization contributed in a certain way to the conservation of water, since they had their own irrigation systems that allowed the conservation of water in a better way. These cities are the following:
Dholavira: One of the oldest water´s harvesting systems is located about 130 km from Pune along Naneghat in the Western Ghats. A large number of cisterns were carved into the rocks to provide drinking water to the traders who traveled along this ancient trade route. Each fort in the area had its own water harvesting and storage system in the form of rock-cut cisterns, ponds, tanks and wells, which are still in use today. A large number of forts like Raigad had tanks that supplied water.
Western Rajasthan: In ancient times, houses in parts of western Rajasthan were built so that each had a water harvesting system on the roof. Rainwater from these roofs was channeled into underground tanks. This system can still be seen today in all the forts, palaces and houses of the region.
Jodhpur: The old city of Jodhpur has over 200 stepwells, built from around the 6th century as part of an incredibly sophisticated water architecture," he explains. During the little rain the region receives between June and September, water is diverted from canals built on the hilly outskirts of the city to man-made tanks, or talabs.
In addition, one of the main figures in water conservation in this civilization were the engineers and urban planners, who were in charge of drainage systems and so on. They were known to have extensive knowledge on how to conserve water.
The results obtained by this civilization in terms of water conservation are the different implementations they gave to water conservation related to the system they had to maintain cleanliness at the time of using the water resource. The effects they had on the future plans of water conservation are mainly positive, since it is well known that this civilization was an intelligent and organized one, that knew how to control its resources very well and how to improve day by day, but above all, to do it in peace with the environment.
If we want to go deeper into this topic of the Indus civilization and water conservation, let's make a connection with the present time. Actually, water conservation is so important especially in environmental topics that are given in schools or in those talks that are given in any convention, but the thing here is that how could it be possible? Well, the answer is because of the ancient civilization that paved the way for us and made it easier for us to continue to practice water conservation today.
To finish this blog, let's review everything about this historical event, basically the Indus Valley civilization makes it easier for actual people to organize well water and not make such a mistake when we have to preserve it in the right way. If we start to become aware of this whole problem and start to organize our resources in the best possible way like this civilization did, we can probably improve all over the world with this issue of conniving water for a better change in general.

Mary Sue Davis
So true! Copied and posted from a friend:
"NOT OPEN FOR DEBATE. IF YOU ARE OFFENDED EASILY THEN DON'T READ THIS.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat. If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him..
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and Jesus silenced.
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.. A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative reads this, he'll post it. A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."
Copied and revised.
Well, I posted it. And feel it’s spot on. Your call."
