Knit Rectangular Pointelle Shawl
Newly discovered is the Knit Rectangular Pointlette Shawl. Created in February 2022, the shawl uses Red Heart Super Saver Brushed. It’s a repetition of 16 rows to give an elegant look you see. Recommended 29″ circular knitting needles of 5 mm / US 8. The pattern multiple is 10 sts + 3 if you want to change the size to make something different, like a blanket or another shape for a shawl. Now on row 173! Woo! Two more repeats of the pattern left, and then bind off.
I still have one entire skein of yarn left, so I shouldn't be playing yarn chicken, and hopefully enough beads. I have a little extra knitting time this weekend because typhoon 10 is blowing through and work is closed tomorrow, but tiny tot does not really slow down just because the weather is stormy. I should be able to get a row done during his nap time though. Hopefully. If the typhoon doesn't wake him. It was the humidity that woke him early today.
Two more repeats and a bind off though, and it'll be done! Yay!

Straightforward Mitts by Mone Dräger, modified!
I made these with Dye Mad Yarns' Chester Sock base in Play for a Purpose (2023). The pattern linked above does not come with fingers, but a friend saw @ninalanfer's version modified to include half fingers and loved it. So, naturally, I had to Make These For Them :)
Huge shout-out to nina for generously linking me (an absolute finger-knitting noob) helpful patterns and notes for learning how to do fingers! It was super helpful and very appreciated, and now I feel Unstoppable!!

progress on my natural color alpaca shawl!!!! It’s taking shape!!!! Ish!!!!!
Two fingering weight yarns held double (my favorite way to knit), eight increases every four rows, garter all the way through. Alpaca is so buttery soft that it is an absolute pleasure and a joy to knit with, and I stop frequently just to rub at what I’ve knit, hehehe

I’m so happy with this gradient it’s soooooo smooth. This shawl is a real challenge to knit both because of the structure of this yarn and the actual pattern itself is written in a way that’s really frustrating, but at least it’s beautiful enough to only be slightly extremely annoying.

also here's two terrible photos of what ive been knitting this week:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's too many stitches so i cant stretch it out properly, and the construction makes it hard to really show it off. also im in bed so it's the best i can do right now.
anyhow this is clue 1 of Stephen West's Go Go Dynamo MKAL, which im two weeks behind on but it's fine. it's been fun so far, minus the 'bubbles', which are the bane of my existence.

Just started the 2nd ball of handspun wool for this shawl.
Never knitted anything in lace before, this the Shetland butterflies shawl by Susan Gutperl, found on ravelry.
It's merino and so soft and squishy, I'm always amazed I spun this so fine!

the nouveau beaded capelet, in all her finished glory!
it’s very hard to get a proper picture of her, given i’m working with a fairly old iphone camera and a manequin indoors - especially since the beads are very subtle. but i hope the close-ups give you some idea…
this is a gorgeous pattern, knit here in silk, and the still photos on an armless form really don’t give you a good idea of how stunning this looks in motion, on a person. it’s like wings, and it feels cool to the touch against the skin because of how many beads there are. i feel like royalty when wearing it… extremely excited to have it finished, and i will try and get some shots of it on me, in better lighting conditions (and maybe in motion!) some time in the future.

Hey, I'm alive! Still not feeling 100% but I have enough of my brain back online to share my current knitting project, a pattern from antiquepatternlibrary.org: the Leaf Shawl (page 18) from Beehive Shawls.
Tumblr media
Honestly the picture doesn't do it justice. The yarn is a much richer green than my camera chose to show, and the leafs (heh) are much better defined, it's just gonna need some blocking to uncurl everything. I think the completed shawl will look fantastic with my totoro dress :3 Hopefully I finish it before summer ends...
Anyways I was really stressed about figuring out yarn overs, especially because the instructions in the pattern are very unclear BUT it was way easier than figuring out buttonholes, thank goodness!

I'm going to my first fiber fest tomorrow! Help me pick out patterns and decide what to buy!
I've been crocheting for about 3 years now and feel like I'm at a solid intermediate skill level now, which means I'm going to treat myself to some fancy yarns! I've done some looking online at hand dyed yarn and am feeling quite overwhelmed honestly. There are so many dyers and yarn bases and color combinations, and I have no idea what will look good crocheted. Most of the swatches of hand dyed yarn are knit and crochet eats up so much yarn that I have no idea how the yarn would look in a crocheted project, so I'm feeling a bit lost! Should I go for stripes? Speckles? Gradients? Tonals? I just don't know!
I'd really love to make a shawl/wrap in hand dyed wool, but am struggling with finding a pattern so I know how much yarn to buy tomorrow. Does anyone have any crochet shawl patterns that will look good with hand dyed yarn? I'm open to working with anything from fingering to worsted weight and feel pretty confident with most stitches. I would prefer something that doesn't have large sections of open work or lace, but I will conquer crocheted lace if there's a pattern out there that would shine with a hand dyed yarn. I'm also pretty confident with Tunisian crochet and have been eyeing a few shawl patterns from TL Yarncraft recently.
Any recommendations for yarn or patterns is greatly appreciated!
Here are the patterns I've been considering, but I cannot for the life of me decide which one to buy for. Please help!

Display shawl in the yarn store made an easy cast on for me, I just got the same brand of yarn in the same colour as the sample and cast it on immediately upon coming home. I love it so much. I've been working on another shawl that is easy but has a lot of star stitches so it's kind of slow going, and I wanted something simple to work on when I'm tired of all the star clusters lol. So this shawl was perfect, the garter obviously goes by really quickly and the lace patterning is really only two different repeating rows so it's super easy and quick too. Only downside is that I finished it within the week and realized it was very small for what I wanted...... soooo I went back and got more yarn and am knitting more! Which I did so fast I forgot to take a picture of the original ending of the shawl before I expanded it, so oops... anyways.

Woohoo, all the way past row 75 today! Each two rows are taking a little more than half an hour now, and I can only imagine it will take longer as it gets bigger.
I do need to grab more stitch markers at the store this week, wouldn't do to not be able to count pattern repeats, especially because of how the pattern is written. There are multiple charts in play on each row.
Not sure how much I'll get done next weekend, I have a soap making class on Saturday morning and there's a neighborhood block party that evening. Still can't decide whether to bring the triple chocolate brownies or the cheesecake. I'm leaning toward the brownies because the cheesecake takes two days while the brownies only need an afternoon, and most of that is just baking and cooling.

part of my current weaving fantasia is definitely a delirious hope to identify a fiber art that produces items i like and which i can use to produce those items/use up yarn at a rate better than like, one year per object
