How Dangerous Can a Tooth Infection Be?
A tooth infection indicates that bacteria have infiltrated the soft tissues of your mouth. These bacteria can spread beyond the teeth, potentially reaching other body parts within weeks or months, leading to serious, life-threatening complications. Though rare, an untreated tooth infection can indeed result in death. However, the timeline for a tooth infection to become fatal is unpredictable, varying from person to person. Factors such as the severity of the disease, individual health conditions, medical history, the timing of dental treatment, and the type of infection all play a role.
This article will explain what a tooth infection is, how quickly it can spread, its symptoms, how long it can go untreated, and whether a tooth infection can be fatal.
What Is a Tooth Infection?
A tooth infection is a bacterial infection that impacts the teeth, gums, and jaw. Bacteria can enter these areas through cavities, cracks, exposed gums, or injuries. Once the infection sets in, it can spread from the root of the tooth to the supporting bones and potentially to other parts of the body if left untreated.
How Fast Can a Tooth Infection Spread?
A tooth abscess, typically caused by a cavity, starts at the tip of the tooth and gradually works its way inward, reaching the soft tissues or pulp over time. However, in individuals with cracks or chips in their teeth or deep cavities, the infection can spread much faster, directly affecting the innermost part of the tooth.
Initially, a tooth infection may cause mild pain localized at the tip of the tooth. However, if left untreated, the infection can reach the root, causing intense pain and discomfort. Once the infection reaches the root, it has the potential to spread to the gums, jaw, and even the bloodstream. While the exact rate at which a tooth infection spreads varies, it's important to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent further complications.
Symptoms of a Tooth Infection
Signs of a tooth infection can range from mild discomfort to severe pain. Common symptoms include:
Persistent, severe toothache radiating to the neck, ears, or jaw
Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
Pain when biting or chewing
Fever or elevated body temperature
Swelling in the face, cheek, or neck, which may make it difficult to breathe or swallow
Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or under the jaw
A bad taste in the mouth
A sudden release of foul-smelling, salty fluid if the abscess ruptures, often accompanied by some pain relief
How to Tell If a Tooth Infection Is Spreading?
If a tooth infection is spreading beyond the mouth, you may experience additional symptoms, such as:
Stomach pain, diarrhea, or vomiting
Signs of dehydration
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or confusion
Rapid heartbeat and high fever
Difficulty breathing
Trouble swallowing
How Long Can a Tooth Infection Go Untreated?
The longer a tooth infection goes untreated, the more likely it is to spread to other parts of the body. A tooth infection does not heal on its own or respond to home remedies; professional dental treatment is necessary. It's important to see a dentist or healthcare provider within a few days to a week after noticing signs of a tooth infection to prevent severe health issues.
Can a Tooth Infection Be Treated at Home?
No, home remedies are not an effective treatment for tooth infections. While they may temporarily alleviate pain, they do not address the underlying cause. A dental abscess requires professional care, and without proper treatment, the infection can progress. In some cases, the nerves inside the tooth may die, reducing the sensation of pain, which could give a false sense of relief. Only a dentist can properly treat a tooth infection and prevent it from spreading.
Can a Tooth Infection Kill You?
Yes, though it is rare, a tooth infection can be fatal. This happens when the infection spreads to other parts of the body, leading to serious health conditions. Here are some of the life-threatening complications that can result from an untreated tooth infection:
Sepsis: Also known as blood poisoning, sepsis occurs when the body’s response to an infection triggers inflammation throughout the body. If a tooth infection spreads to the bloodstream, it can lead to sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition.
Infective Endocarditis: This is a rare heart condition that can occur when bacteria from a tooth infection enter the bloodstream and infect the inner lining of the heart chambers or valves.
Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis: This is a rare but serious condition that occurs when a bacterial infection spreads from the face (such as from a tooth) to the cavernous sinus, a large vein at the base of the skull.
Osteomyelitis: This serious bone infection can develop if bacteria from a tooth infection spread to the underlying bones. It often occurs after tooth extractions or dental implants and can lead to severe complications.
Brain Infection: Though very rare, a tooth infection can spread to the brain, leading to life-threatening complications such as brain abscesses. Symptoms may include headaches, neck stiffness, changes in mental status, and weakness in the body.
Takeaway
While advancements in modern healthcare have significantly reduced the risk of death from tooth infections, it is still essential to seek treatment promptly. If left untreated, tooth infections can lead to severe health problems, including life-threatening conditions. If you notice signs of a tooth infection, consult with a dentist as soon as possible to avoid potential complications.
To ensure your dental health and prevent the spread of infections, schedule a consultation with your dentist today. Early intervention can make all the difference in protecting your health.

Still makes me so mad that the hospital stole my teeth when I was too out of it from the anesthesia to fight them on it. I grew those! Just because they turned on me and I needed them out of my body, doesn't mean I didn't want to keep them.
#as opposed to the dentist who after fitting me for a new retainer was like 'so the 3d printed model of your teeth. you want that right'#that's a man that understands me#fuck yeah i do#even gave me a little bag to take it home in. that's how sure he was that I'd want it#offering to let you keep these things should be the bare minimum imo. of course I'm attached to them! they're mine. not yours#and i mean the bond between me and my teeth was much stronger than that of the 3d model#seeing as id personally grown them. carried them around for a good while. and! most importantly: they almost killed me#the bond between a girl and a thing that spent 2 years doing its damnist to make her die a timeless kind of death: irreplaceable#nothing makes you feel closer to your ancestors than regular systemic infections from a bad tooth#tho in the tooths defence. it personally was very healthy. i did a great job of growing it really. it just grew in at the wrong angle#leaving me with a gaping wound in my mouth for two years (no really. it should have been removed immediately but shit happened and it took a#ridiculously long time until eventuality mid pandemic they were like 'yeah let's do that surgery you've needed for 2 years')#by the end i was on antibiotics like once a month. and the really nasty ones too. the swelling was so bad ppl kept thinking i had mumps#no! just my tooth again#honestly we went through a lot together (even it was the tooths fault) i hate to think of the fact that it was incinerated along with#everyone else's set aside body parts. it deserved better.#i feel something that tries to kill you that many times is owed a certain amount of respect. they robbed me of the chance to give it that

Round 2 - Arthropoda - Ichthyostraca
(Sources - 1, 2, 3, 4)
Our first class of crustaceans is the parasitic Icthyostraca. This class comprises the subclasses Branchiura (“Fish Lice” or “Carp Lice”) and Pentastomida (“Tongue Worms”).
Branchiurans (images 1-3) have a flattened, oval body covered by a carapace, four segments each with a pair of swimming legs, and a pair of compound eyes. They can be a few millimetres to over 30 mm (1.2 in) long, with females usually somewhat larger than the males. Adults have toothed hooks on their mandibles that allow them to cling to their hosts, and some species also have a pair of suction cups. Their mouthparts and the first pair of antennae are modified to form a hooked, spiny proboscis. Branchiurans feed primarily on marine and freshwater fish, but can also be found on other aquatic organisms such as invertebrates, salamanders, tadpoles and alligators. Some species feed on the blood of their host, while others feed on mucus and dead scales, not harming the fish. However, when they reach high enough densities, they can kill fish. Branchiurans are not permanently attached to their hosts, and females may leave them for up to three weeks to lay eggs on the surfaces of plants or rocks. When the larvae (image 2) hatch, they will swim off to select their own host.
Meanwhile, Pentastomids (image 4) parasitize the respiratory tracts of both aquatic and land vertebrates. Adults can reach 1 to 14 cm (0.4 to 5.5 in) in length, with females being larger than males. They have a mouth and two pairs of hooked legs which are used to attach to their host. They feed entirely on blood, except for the genus Linguatula which lives in the nasal cavity of carnivorous mammals and feeds mainly on mucus and dead cells. Pentastomids lay their eggs within their host, which are then either coughed out by the host or leave the body through the digestive system. At least one species has a free-living larvae, but most depend on the eggs being eaten by an intermediate host, which is usually either a fish or a small mammal. The larva hatches within the intermediate host, forming a cyst within the host’s body. It is initially round with four or six short legs, and will moult several times until it reaches its adult form. The pentastomid arrives in its main host when the intermediate host is eaten by the main host, crawling into the respiratory tract from the esophagus.
Exceptionally preserved fossils of pentastomids date back to the Cambrian. They seem to be relatively unchanged, and may be a clue as to the link between arthropods and other invertebrates.
Propaganda under the cut:
Humans can be infected by pentastomids, developing a condition called pentastomiasis. This happens when humans consume an undercooked intermediate host or even the primary host, becoming the primary host themselves. We are part of the ecosystem. :)
Branchiurans are probably the cutest parasites though, right? Like look at their little eyes and round bodies…
#i just want y’all to know that while researching and writing this one I was sitting on the toilet at 1 am suffering from food poisoning#round 2#animal polls#arthropoda

Fear.
Pairing: Dean Winchester x reader
Wordcount: 3094
Summary: The first time Dean sees you scared.
Warnings: Typical Supernatural stuff. Vampires, beheading vampires, death, deep feelings of guilt, loss of loved ones.
Note: I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything. All three of my best friends recently moved away and I've been going to therapy for, among other things, ADHD.
Last week I had my last therapie session and, while I wrote this a few weeks ago, today I finally finished editing it!
Thank you so much for waiting for me and I really hope you'll enjoy this.
For those who'd like something less violent I am working on a dad!Spencer Reid story. I don't know when I'll post that though.
Story:
Fear is a funny thing. It can just appear out of nowhere or it can sneak up on you, like some virus that you’re not aware of until after it’s caused an infection. Fear is a feeling, but unlike happiness or anger it always comes with a bodily reaction. Depending on the situation and the person, the body can react to fear in different ways. For instance, when you come eye to eye with a tiger, you might feel your chest start to tighten. This means your muscles are getting ready to take action, possibly in the form of fighting or in the form of running away. Others might start to sweat excessively, so that their bodies will stay cool while running and then there’s the kind of person who will drop to the ground and play dead. Now, when encountering a tiger the latter method is useless, because tigers will sneak up on you and attack from behind. However when you encounter a female bear protecting her cubs, pretending to be dead is exactly the way to go.
Now, these reactions stem from a long time ago when humans regularly came in contact with wild animals, because we lived amongst them and they were a source of food. Nowadays however, we might react to having a job interview or giving a presentation in the same way our ancestors would while encountering a sabre-toothed tiger. That is, unless your job is to hunt ghosts, demons or other supernatural beings.
Of course, these hunters are humans so they know fear. Probably even better than normal folk. The thing about hunters is that, while they are afraid, they don’t show it. They can’t, otherwise whatever creature they’re hunting will gain the upper hand. So, while learning what monsters are out there and how to beat them, a hunter will learn how to handle their fear. They’ll learn to keep their breathing under control, so they won’t start hyperventilating and panic, but they’ll be able to keep thinking clearly. They learn to think on their feet, so that, even when a creature does gain the upper hand, they can turn the tables just as fast. And most of all, they learn that being scared is okay, because their own fear won’t kill them, but whatever creature they’re facing might.
You are one of those hunters. You’ve been hunting for almost two decades and you’re good at it. You were also a mystery. You had some impressive kills to your name and so other hunters starting talking about you, but no one actually knew you. Rumours were spread and you were made out to be some kind of superhuman. Eventually, the word most used to describe you, was fearless.
The rumours eventually also reached the Winchesters. Dean was not only impressed, but intrigued by the stories he heard and his desire to meet you kept growing the more he heard about you. Sam however, had his doubts about the rumours floating around and would rather focus on facts.
Dean was granted his wish though. Four months ago you met the brothers while working the same case. You got along well and after working together and solving the case you worked together more and more.
While drinking a beer on the hood of his car, you even opened up to Dean about losing your mother as a child and since he went through something similar, you two became very close. Bit by bit you pulled away the veil that you had draped over your past. You shared stories about your family , your pain, but not your fear. Never your fear. To you, fear was something you couldn’t allow yourself to feel. Instead of learning to deal with it, you had taught yourself to bury it, deep down inside of you where no one, not even you, could get to it. And it worked. You killed vampires, ghosts, werewolves and demons all on your own. It didn’t even matter how many there were, you would always get the job done. Until one fateful night.
You and the Winchesters were working a case that involved multiple bodies, found with bite marks and without blood. The culprit was a vampire. That you knew almost instantly. What you didn’t know however, was how many there were or where they were held up. After the third victim was found, you realised all the bodies were left around an old abandoned factory and you decided to investigate.
Ever since you entered the town though, the hairs on the back of your neck had stood up straight. Why? You didn’t know. You just felt like something was off, but since you had no idea what, you shrugged it off and focused on the job you had to do.
The second you found yourself at the factory though, your heart started banging in your chest, harder than it ever had. But, as always, you shoved the feeling down and kept going. There were three buildings in the area and you decided to clear them together, one by one. The first building was empty. When you thought you had cleared the second building, suddenly you were pushed to the ground. You managed to catch yourself, but as your hands hit the ground, an image flashed through your brain. You saw your hands on the exact same floor except everything was covered in blood. What was going on? Within a second you were back to reality, without any idea what had just happened. Your skin was now clammy, your breathing heavy and you were sweating profusely. “Y/N, you okay?” You heard Dean ask. You got up and after turning around you noticed a beheaded body and blood dripping off of Sam’s machete. It was a vampire that had pushed you down. “Yeah, I’m fine. Let’s get to the last building.” You answered and all three of you kept going.
You walked over to the third building and stood next to Dean as Sam opened the door. Before entering, you swallowed hard, trying to calm yourself down. For a split second, you wondered if you should let Sam and Dean handle this building without you, but you immediately threw that thought out of the window. How could you even think about leaving your friends just when things got difficult?
The second you entered the factory hall, you felt like you had walked into a wall. You staggered backwards, slamming your back into the wall behind you as your brain was flooded with images of this very hall covered in blood and remains. Suddenly you heard your brother. He was screaming, vampires were growling and suddenly you were on the ground and the blood was gone. The next second you could see Sam and Dean fighting some vamps, but you couldn’t tell what was real anymore. You saw a vampire coming straight at you, but you weren’t sure if it was really there, so you had no idea what to do. You pressed yourself against the wall, pulling your knees against your chest. In an attempt to make everything stop, you covered your ears and closed your eyes, hiding your face between your knees.
As the last vampire’s head hit the floor, Dean started looking for you and Sam. He found his brother first, standing over another dead vampire a few feet away. “You okay?” Sam asked. “Yeah” Dean answered and he was about to ask where you were when he heard you whimpering. “No, no, no. Go away, leave me alone.” You mumbled. For a second Dean wasn’t sure if you were actually you. You were hyperventilating, tears were streaming down your face and you looked so small Dean could barely recognise the strong, powerful woman he had gotten to know in the last few months. Both brothers ran toward you and knelt down next to you. “Hey, Y/N? It’s Dean. It’s safe now. Nothing’s gonna hurt you. Can you open your eyes for me?” Dean softly asked. Somehow, through all the screaming and the blood and the violence in your head Dean’s voice was crystal clear. Like a light in the darkest night you tried your best to focus on his voice and you let him guide you back to reality. “Dean?” You managed to get out through sort breaths. “Yeah, Y/N, it’s me. It’s okay. Try to breathe.” He told you. You slowly looked up at him and while everything outside of you was calm and quiet, your body was still a complete chaos on the inside. “I-I can’t.” You told Dean as your right hand found your heart. “Yes you can. Here.” Dean said. He took your hand from your heart and placed it over his own. “Try to match my breathing. You can do this, I know you can.” He told you and you tried your best, but your erratic breathing didn’t change. Dean looked at his brother, wordlessly asking him for help. Sam held his hands up, wordlessly telling his brother he didn’t know how. Dean looked back to you. His heart broke seeing you like this and it hurt so much more because he couldn’t help you. He racked his brain, trying to think of anything that might help you.
Suddenly, an idea popped into this head. It may have been the most ridiculous, dumb idea he ever had, but he had to help you and there was nothing else he could think of. Still holding your hand over his heart, Dean laid his other hand in your neck and pressed his lips against yours.
In the last for months Dean had loved getting to know you. He deeply enjoyed hanging out with you and felt honoured every time you told him something about yourself you hadn’t told anyone else. He had wanted to ask you out for two months now, but had never found the courage to do that. About a week ago you were working on another case. You had found changelings and after killing the mother, one of the human kids didn’t want to leave their cage. It was a little, four-year-old girl and Dean couldn’t help but stare at you as you talked to her. “I know you’re scared and your mommy isn’t here right now, but I can take you to her.” You told her. “But there are scary people out there.” The little girl whispered. “I know, but I will be with you the whole way, so I can protect you, okay?” You asked her. “Even from him?” She whispered back, pointing at Dean. A small smile appeared on your face. “I know he seems scary, but that’s my friend Dean. He won’t hurt you, I promise.” You told her and as you took the girl into your arms, Dean realised he didn’t just like you. He was falling in love with you.
As he let you go, you could finally take a deep breath in. You took a few moments to steady your breathing and then you noticed the two faces staring questioningly at you. “Y/N, what happened?” Sam asked you. “Not here. I gotta get out of here first.” You told the brothers, shaking your head. They nodded and the three of you got up and left.
About an hour later, you were back at the motel. You and Dean had both taken showers and Sammy had gotten the dinner you were now enjoying. You made smalltalk for a few minutes, until Sam decided to address the elephant in the room. “Y/N, can you please tell us what happened? I mean, in the months that we’ve known you we’ve seen you kill all kinds of creatures, including vampires, without braking a sweat and tonight you had a full blown panic attack. Do you even know what caused it?” He asked. You softly sighed and nodded, knowing you could get around it any longer. “I grew up in a family of hunters. As you know, my mom died when I was little and so my dad and my brother started hunting together, leaving me at whatever seedy motel room we were staying in. One day, when I was fifteen, I decided I was old enough to join them. They didn’t agree, so I figured I’d prove it to them. They were after a vampire and I had overheard them talking about where they thought it would be that night. A few hours later, I snuck out and went there. The vampire was held up somewhere in an old factory. Three buildings and lots of ground to cover.”
“The place we were tonight.” Sam filled in. You nodded. “Yeah. I noticed the lights were on in the third building, so I went in. I found my dad and brother inside and it turned out there wasn’t just one vampire. There were five of them. The moment one of them noticed me, I screamed. It ran straight at me, but my brother managed to kill it in time.
My dad however, had gotten distracted by my scream, giving another vamp enough time to stab him. My brother yelled at me to run, but there were still three vamps left. I did what he told me and waited for him outside, but he never came out. He was barely eighteen. He saved my life twice in one night and had to make up for it with his own.” You felt a tear slide down your face and fell quiet. “And all of that happened in the building we were in tonight?” Sam asked. You nodded. “I always felt like their deaths were my fault, because if I hadn’t screamed, they’d still be here. So I decided I couldn’t be scared anymore.” You admitted. “Y/N, I’m so sorry.” Sam told you. Dean took your hand, causing you look at him. “I’m so sorry about that, Y/N, but their deaths aren’t your fault, they’re the vamps fault and it’s okay to be scared. Everyone gets scared sometimes, you just can’t let that stop you.” He told you sincerely. “I mean, you’re sitting next to a guy who shits his pants every time the Plucky Pennywhistle’s commercial plays.” Dean added grinning. “Haha. Here’s an idea. Take Dean on a flight. He’ll scream like a little girl the whole way.” Sam bit back, got up and disappeared into the bathroom.
The silence that followed was heavy. Dean cleared his throat and started gathering the fast-food wrappers that were all over the table. As he got up to throw them away, you decided you had to get something off of your chest. “Dean, how did you know kissing me would help me breathe?” You asked as you turned to him. He just shrugged. “Read it somewhere, I think.” He mumbled. “So, it was just that? Just a way to get me to take deeper breaths?” You asked, getting up and walking towards him. “Yeah, I was just trying to-“ You turned him towards you and softly pressed your lips against his, effectively cutting him off. He kissed you back, dropping the towel he was holding in the sink and wrapping his arm around your waist. One of your hands found its way into his hair, while the other intertwined both of your fingers. Then you pulled back. “I’m sorry, I did not mean to, I’d-“ You tried to walk away, but had somehow forgotten you were still holding Deans hand. “Not so fast. I have something to admit. I didn’t just kiss you to stop you from panicking. I didn’t know what to do and I wanted to kiss you before it was too late.” Dean said while walking closer to you. “Really?” You asked him. “Yeah. I’ve wanted to ask you out for months, but I was so scared of losing you that I kept chickening out. So, this is me, not letting my fear stop me. Y/N, will you go out with me? Because I think I’m falling for you.” You were so close, your foreheads and noses touched and you could feel Dean’s breath against your lips as he talked. You pressed another kiss to his lips and a smile appeared on his face. “Yes, I’ll go on a date with you. And Dean? I fell for you four months ago.” You told him. Dean kissed you again and then you finally let go of his hand. “We should get some sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.” You told him, trying not to laugh at the pout on his face.
The moment the door closed behind you, you felt cold. Part of you wanted to get back inside and stay with Dean until the morning and another part you was yelling at you because it’s just one night. You could be without him for that long, couldn’t you? So, you went to your own room and got ready for bed. Once in bed, though, you couldn’t sleep. You kept tossing and turning and for whatever reason you were freezing. After a few minutes, you decided enough was enough. You got out of bed and made your way back to Sam and Deans room. The light was still on and Sam was still in the shower. Dean was in bed flipping though channels. His hand disappeared under his pillow when the door opened, until he noticed it was you. “Hey, what’s up?” He asked and turned off the tv. “Hey, can I sleep here tonight?” You asked softly. Then you saw the most adorable thing you had seen in a while. Deans eyes started shining and his lips turned into the sweetest smile. “Come here.” He said. He held up a corner of the blanket and moved back as you crawled into bed next to him. The first moments were a little awkward as Dean was laying with his back toward the edge of the bed and you laid with your back towards him. He loosely laid an arm around your waist and waited to see how you’d react. You took his hand, intertwined your fingers and pulled it against your heart. Then you softly kissed Dean’s knuckles and the awkwardness melted away. Dean wrapped his other arm around you too and pulled you against his chest. “Goodnight, handsome.” You whispered. “Goodnight, sweetheart.” Dean whispered back and pressed a soft kiss to your shoulder. Not two minutes later you were both fast asleep when Sam came out of the bathroom. He immediately noticed you in his brothers bed and couldn’t help but smile. Finally.

For @ashcroft-writes (who else at this point <3)
You might have seen me yelling at you in your comments in ao3 already but if not:
Have an illustration of the absolute beast of an image of Bane eating planet-shaped sweets. Ever since that chapter came out last year, this image has refused to leave me alone until I finally sat down to draw it. And then in the latest chapter it came back?! If I tell you I nearly started screaming at my screen ...! The red planet at the front is Coruscant as the image search suggested, I hadn't expected it to be so vividly red and yellow but I'm sure that made for a tasty looking candy. The colour for the other two planets was determined by what I thought looked nice lol.
If you're looking at this and think 'hold in, Bane is blue though', true.
I don't do realism or accurate copies well and I've seen depictions of Bane floating around that were more concerned with vibes than sticking close to the character design we see in the show, so I let myself be loosely inspired. There was one drawing in particular that used a hmm (body) horror approach with really strong colours and distortion but I can't find it anymore else I'd tag the artist :/
What I used as basis for this design was the skull of my favourite reptile since I can remember: the Komodo Dragon. There really wasn't a ton of thought behind that decision, I just thought it would be sick xD
If you've never heard of these friends, here a link:
Some facts about the Komodo Dragon that floated around in my head as I was drawing:
They're the coolest and I love them <3
I'm wearing a necklace from the protected area of the Komodo island with a Komodo Dragon's tooth right now because they're endangered and the nature park needs money to keep protecting them.
That's it.
...
Just kidding^^
The way that Komodo Dragon's hunt is really fascinating; they're the defintion of 'Work smart Not hard' and only need to get one bite in to kill: For a long time it was believed that the bacteria in their saliva turned the bite wound gangrenous and slowly killed prey but scientists found actual venom glans in their lower jaws that distribute really complex venom. To my knowledge there is no anti venom and unlike most snake who only really attack humans when they feel threatened, K Ds regularly hunt Prey Like horses and water buffalos, they are /not/ scared of humans and though they're somewhat used to our presence, you should keep a very respectful distance at all times.
They reach a length of 10.3 feet (3.13 meters) and even though they look pretty heavy, they can absolutely sprint short distances and hunt a human down.
They're cannibals and young K Ds need to be fast and good climbers to stay alive.
They're covered in body armour. That a reptile is scaly is no real surprise but K Ds are covered in osteoderms which are bone fragments (how metal is that??). Other lizards have them as well but usually only patches K Ds simply have more. And they only get them once they're adults and get out of the trees again. Another link because this is really turning into an Info dump lmao:
Still here? :P
K D have serrated, backwards-facing teeth; what are they for? Cutting really well and leaving gaping wounds; the serration means that snatches of meat are torn out of the wound even when the prey initially gets away. And if I'm getting it right, the wounds themselves aren't cleanly cut which creates an ideal foundation for infection over the next days. The teeth also break off pretty often and grow right back.
Like snakes they have forked tongues and a really keen sense of smell. They also lay eggs and females can apparently reproduce via parthogenesis which is a type of asexual reproduction (diversity win! Haha)
If it hasn't been clear yet, K Ds are apex predators and apart from adult animals they have no known predators in their natural habitat; even humans can't really do anything with their dead bodies as their skin is unsuitable to being turned into leather.
So why have I told you all of this? Yes, because I got excited about an animal that I first learned about when I must have been maybe six at most and have loved ever since. But also because I do think it's a pretty cool spirit animal for our friend Cad Bane. not in every aspect maybe; I do think overall they look a little to heavy for him but the hunting strategy? Once this animal has its eyes (or vomeronasal organ) on you, there is no escaping. A K D paired with actual sapience and a more stable body temperature would be stupidly terrifying. They don't have to run you down, why would they when both you and it know that you can't outrun it. One bite and it's game over and I think that's how being hunted by Cad Bane would feel like.

tlou ep 8 okay “would you sacrifice this 14 yr old girl to save more lives?” i think is the surface question here which is: *is humanity is worth saving? *at the cost of medically experimenting on the single person that is known to be immune to a fungal virus in which the experiment will kill her and there is no guarantee that it will work, we also did not ask this girl for her consent (which she can’t give) or her guardian’s consent (knocked unconscious) and left out important information about the consent (she will die). but back to is humanity worth saving? to me the ep says yes. i feel like the whole series says yes. because ellie is worth saving to the one person who cares about her. and sam and henry were, and bill and frank, and tess, and riley and so many others named and unnamed are/were worth saving.
the issue with the fireflies and their situation with ellie is that theyre thinking of themselves as the potential saviors of humanity with their ‘cure’ they know probably won’t work but theyre willing to sacrifice her for, to destroy her life. the thing is, recognizing that humanity is worth saving means actually putting in the work to see that through — it means humanity needs to stop killing each other first in order to put that into practice, humanity has to stop oppressing each other with cults and fascist paramilitaries that struggle for control and rule with fear fanaticism and starvation long enough to recognize that, start organizing and looking after one another instead of fighting tooth and nail for breadcrumbs and who gets to lock who in a cage. making a cure is easy, choosing not to tear each other apart is hard. injection is simple, reaching out and pulling each other up, saving each other and choosing to keep doing that forever is fucking difficult and scary. adding a cure to cordyceps would be another thing to kill each other over and control if things continued as they did. you can’t chase a cure that promises to fix everything while doing the same things and continuing the same cycles as before. and even if there would never be a cure for the infected (there isnt) what matters is if people can exist long term either alongside cordyceps for the remainder of human history or until it disappears and more importantly alongside other human beings. because that is the way to survive and that is the way to ensure that humanity, each person’s life is valued and continues to matter and be worth saving. that is how you save humanity
#sorry fireflies cutting a girl's brain open isnt gonna solve all your problems#it turns out saving each other is a lot harder than we originally thought#tlou got me thinking now especially with these 'was joel right?' questions#i think we're asking the wrong question#but if ur gonna ask ellie is his baby girl so all bets are off. maim and kill#<- jokes bc this IS a fictional tv show and i cant love a morally grey dad and his sailor mouthed daughter#the last of us#tlou#the last of us ep 8

Okay I don't really like what we constitute as Joel's failures. He didn't fail Ellie here in any way. He forced himself up with a knife wound barley healed, hunted men down and fought tooth and crawl to get to her.
Joel didn't fail by not getting to her. When should he have? When he was unconcious the first time she went out? When she put a knife in his hands and told him to fight before running away on horseback when he was barley concious? When he had to take time to learn where she was to get to her?
And by the time he did what NO ONE ELSE could, she had killed David just seconds before as he tried to assault her. That's not failure and there is no theme of Joels failure.
Joel sees his failures as such beacuse of trauma and guilt. You as the audience should not be agreeing with him, you do realize?
Joel was holding injured Sarah in both arms calmly reasoning with a soldier only to have both of them be shot for no reason. How is that Joel failing her?
Joel didn't hear the guy coming up beside him until the door kicked in beacuse behind the walls of a door and building his hearing wasn't as keen on that side. And Ellie chose to intervene instead of waiting for Joel to get the upperhand. How is that Joel failing her?
Ellie didn't tell Joel that Sam was infected and he was literally being held at gunpoint after being shot at by Henry when he went to save her when Sam inevitably attacked her. How is that Joel failing her?
Joel and Ellie being surrounded by people on horseback with guns when he was forced to put his down. And the dog sniffing Ellie but if Joel intervened he'd get shot and likely Ellie too. How is that Joel failing her?
Joel protected Ellie to the degree he didn't even feel himself being stabbed because he was so focused on her saftey.
Joels monologue to Tommy about failing her, both Sarah and Ellie is not what you should take away. Its Joels fear through trauma that he thinks everything is his fault because trauma induced guilt blinds the truth of your own nobility.
Joel didn't fail Ellie here, either. They are a team. She escapes David, and Joel finds her at the same time and saves her from falling into the pit of lonely traumatized despair such an event may have. As a r/sa/csa victim I can tell you that Joel didn't need to physically save her. His quiet and gentle love is exactly the opposite of failure.
Ellie does need Joel. Don't mistaken her being able to escape David and his men for not needing Joel. If Joel wasn't there in that moment? She would have been traumatized for life. But now she remembers that event ending in the arms of a father who actually loves her. That's not failure.
Joel does not have a theme of failure and thinking so is missing the point entierly. The theme is Joel's trauma has warped his sense of self and sees failure where there is none and that by letting Ellie in he understands the truth. Ellie doesn't "not need Joel sometimes". She does because Joel has never failed her. If you asked Ellie if thats what she got out of this situation, that she was okay without Joel's help and that he "failed" to get to her in time?
That little spitfire would tell you to go fuck yourself. This was long but I'm sorry all this mentality does is reduce Joel's trauma to "what a trauma victim thinks of themsleves is truth" and says that Ellie doesn't actually need Joel when the whole point of the fucking show is no.
No they need each other desperately and neither of them have failed the other.
#tlou spoilers#the last of us spoilers#this was long but im so done with ppl acting like joel did fail his girls#like way to reduce joel to a failure of a man#and elevate ellie to a badass lone girl archetype#when the point is ellies a fucking child who needs her dad beacuse joel had never failed her once#its about love not overcoming failure jesus christ

I guess I feel lost. What’s next? I don’t know. What’s happening now? I don’t know. How much more different should my life look in the future? What do I want out of life? Am I headed toward my aspirations? Should I be? I don’t know. I think I can feel a change in my life approaching. I can see a fork in the road, and both paths scare me. No, it isn’t a fork in the road. The options are to stay where I am or to keep going forward. There is only one path. I didn’t see it before, and I am seeing it now. It is extremely unfamiliar. Almost every corner of my body says that the path is not meant for me. But I know that isn’t true. So why does happiness and success and greatness and fulfillment and growth sound so God awful? Why does it bring an ache into my chest? Why does the thought of going forward hurt? Why does the path of light seem like despair?
The black sludge within me. It takes many forms, and right now it feels like it is a hand gripped around my throat from behind. It pulls me back. It does not want to go into light. It wants to stay here. If I break free and go forward, it promises that it will find me and drag me back. The further forward I go, the more it will drag me until I am back in this very spot. It will hurt less to just stay here, it says. I am scared. I have known this blackness much longer than I have known light. It feels like it is part of me. It is deep within me— an infection in a tooth, in need of a root canal. I have tried running away from this black sludge, but then it becomes my shoes. I have tried destroying it, but then it becomes the hammer. I have tried to reason with it, but then it becomes my mind. When I try to take a new path, it becomes the ground that I walk on. What the fuck is in my past that has created this venom inside of me? How the fuck do I get rid of it? I want to be rid of it. I want to be free to walk forward. I am on a dark leash.
“Happiness is not meant for you,
You are doomed.
You are broken!
You are broken!
Nothing good, none of it is for you.
It is taken by those who walk in the light.
You are a shadow underneath them.
You cannot escape your fate.
You will not live a long, full life.
Any attempts to will be what kills you.”
Maybe I’m afraid that once I reach happiness or success or whatever, everything will light on fire. Someone will die or I will die. Something terrible will happen if I walk forward. The black sludge becomes a mirror that shows me my future and I do not want it. If I stay here, if I don’t walk toward my demise, then it won’t happen.
I know the sludge is wrong. I think. This sludge is half of me, possibly almost all of me. I do not know who I am without it. It is hard to make decisions without my own dark mind. I think the light burns the sludge. I think the passion and hope sets it on fire. And I think it hurts me because I am the sludge. If I am the sludge, and I need to kill the sludge to be free of this burden, then there is no future for me. Destroying my enemy will destroy me because we are one. I was made this way, or this is how I was to be. This sludge should be killable. I know that. I hope there is another me inside all of it that will survive so she can step into the light.

Effective Solutions for Common Dental Problems: Temporary and Permanent Fixes
Dental issues can arise unexpectedly, causing discomfort and sometimes even pain. Whether it’s a sudden toothache, a chipped tooth, or more severe dental problems, knowing how to address these issues can save you from prolonged discomfort. In this blog, we’ll explore both temporary and permanent solutions for common dental problems, helping you manage and address these concerns effectively.
Understanding Common Dental Problems
Dental issues can vary widely, but some of the most common problems include:
Toothaches: Pain caused by decay, infection, or trauma.
Chipped or Cracked Teeth: Damage from accidents or biting hard substances.
Loose Fillings: Fillings that have come loose due to wear or decay.
Gum Infections: Infections that cause swelling, redness, and pain in the gums.
Sensitive Teeth: Discomfort caused by exposed tooth roots or enamel loss.
Temporary Solutions for Dental Problems
While seeking professional dental care is essential, some temporary solutions can help manage symptoms until you can see a dentist.
1. Toothache Relief
Saltwater Rinse: Mix a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and rinse your mouth several times a day. This can help reduce inflammation and kill bacteria.
Cold Compress: Apply a cold pack to the affected area for 15-20 minutes to numb the pain and reduce swelling.
Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers: Medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can provide temporary relief from toothache pain.
2. Chipped or Cracked Teeth
Dental Wax: If the tooth is sharp or jagged, you can apply dental wax to cover the area and protect your gums and tongue.
Temporary Filling Material: Over-the-counter filling materials can be used to cover minor chips and cracks temporarily.
3. Loose Fillings
Dental Cement: Temporary dental cement can be used to reattach loose fillings until you can visit your dentist.
Avoid Hard Foods: Stick to soft foods and avoid chewing on the affected side to prevent further damage.
4. Gum Infections
Warm Saltwater Rinse: Rinsing with warm saltwater can help soothe the gums and reduce infection symptoms.
Avoid Irritants: Avoid spicy or acidic foods that can aggravate the infection.
Permanent Solutions for Dental Problems
For long-term relief and proper treatment, professional dental care is crucial. Here’s what you might expect for permanent solutions:
1. Toothache Treatment
Dental Fillings or Root Canals: If the toothache is caused by decay or infection, a dentist may need to perform a filling or a root canal to restore the tooth.
Antibiotics: In cases of severe infection, a dentist may prescribe antibiotics to eliminate bacteria.
2. Repairing Chipped or Cracked Teeth
Dental Bonding: A tooth-colored resin is applied to fill in cracks and chips, restoring the tooth’s appearance and function.
Crowns: For more extensive damage, a dental crown may be placed over the tooth to protect and strengthen it.
3. Replacing Loose Fillings
Dental Repairs: A dentist will replace loose fillings with new ones or repair the tooth as needed.
Preventive Care: Regular check-ups can help prevent future filling issues.
4. Treating Gum Infections
Professional Cleaning: A dentist will clean the affected area and may recommend scaling and root planing to treat gum disease.
Antibiotics and Medications: Prescribed to manage infections and inflammation.
5. Addressing Sensitive Teeth
Desensitizing Toothpaste: Special toothpaste can help reduce tooth sensitivity over time.
Fluoride Treatments: Application of fluoride can strengthen enamel and reduce sensitivity.
When to See a Dentist
While temporary solutions can help manage symptoms, it’s important to see a dentist for a thorough examination and appropriate treatment. Persistent or severe dental issues require professional intervention to prevent complications and ensure optimal oral health.
Conclusion
Dental problems can be distressing, but with the right temporary and permanent solutions, you can manage and resolve these issues effectively. From immediate relief methods like saltwater rinses and cold compresses to long-term treatments such as dental bonding and professional cleanings, addressing dental concerns promptly is key to maintaining a healthy smile.

How to Get Rid of Tooth Abscess Naturally at Home
Dealing with a tooth abscess can be excruciatingly painful and concerning. Not only can it cause severe discomfort, but it can also lead to serious complications if left untreated. While seeking professional help from an emergency dentist is crucial, there are also natural remedies you can try at home to alleviate symptoms and promote healing. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore effective methods to get rid of a tooth abscess naturally, ensuring relief and improved oral health.
Natural Remedies for Tooth Abscess:
1. Saltwater Rinse:
One of the simplest yet effective home remedies for a tooth abscess is a saltwater rinse. Salt has natural antibacterial properties that can help reduce inflammation and draw out infection. To prepare the rinse, dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and swish it around your mouth for 30 seconds before spitting it out. Repeat this several times a day for relief.
2. Garlic:
Garlic is renowned for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a valuable ally in combating tooth abscesses. Crush a garlic clove to release its juices, then apply it directly to the affected tooth or gum area. Alternatively, you can chew a garlic clove to release its active compounds. Repeat this process daily until symptoms improve.
3. Tea Tree Oil:
Tea tree oil is a potent natural antiseptic that can help kill bacteria and reduce swelling associated with a tooth abscess. Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil in carrier oil, such as coconut oil, and apply it to the affected area using a cotton swab. Be sure to perform a patch test first to avoid irritation. Repeat this remedy twice daily for best results.
4. Turmeric Paste:
Turmeric is celebrated for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, making it a valuable remedy for tooth abscesses. Create a paste by mixing turmeric powder with water to form a thick consistency. Apply the paste directly to the affected area and leave it on for several minutes before rinsing with water. Repeat this process daily to alleviate pain and promote healing.
5. Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse:
Hydrogen peroxide is a potent antiseptic that can help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation in the mouth. Dilute hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of water and use it as a mouthwash, swishing it around your mouth for 30 seconds before spitting it out. Be sure not to swallow the solution. Repeat this rinse once daily to aid in healing.
How to Prevent Tooth Abscesses
While natural remedies can provide relief from a tooth abscess, prevention is always the best approach.
1. Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting your El Paso dentist for routine check-ups.
2. Avoid sugary and acidic foods that can contribute to tooth decay, and promptly address any dental issues to prevent them from escalating into abscesses.
Dealing with a tooth abscess can be a distressing experience, but with the right approach, relief is within reach. While natural remedies can help alleviate symptoms temporarily, it's crucial to seek professional help from an emergency dentist for proper diagnosis and treatment. By combining home remedies with preventive measures, you can effectively manage tooth abscesses and safeguard your oral health for the long term. Remember to prioritize your dental health and address any concerns promptly to avoid complications.

🍎 。:*• ─ HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN CHALLENGE. › Day Twenty-Seven
[ Valentino ]
27. Pick a character from one of their favourite Halloween movies and write a small interaction/drabble between them and your muse.
Val isn't really a horror movie kind of guy but I recently watched someone play Dead Rising 2 and fucking TK would get on with him so well sooooo I'm running with that. The fic is 733 words long, and so it's going to be under a cut for length. The worst cw is smoking.
Rounding a corner, Tyrone hit a wall of sweet, red, cherry-scented smoke like it was an actual wall. Immediately it set him to coughing, and he had to cover his mouth with one hand to try and inhale something else. The smoke smelt different, felt different, than what he was used to. It felt warm, it felt like a caress, it felt like—
A hand!
There was a huge, spidery, black hand reaching out of the smoke and touching his face! Tyrone had but a second to react, and what he did end up doing surprised him. Smacking the hand away from him, he let out a gasp of horror as the rest of the creature, robed in alarm bell red, twisted into view.
He first noticed those glowing, hot pink eyes, slits in a periwinkle face behind–Sunglasses? Gold-framed, heart-shaped, pink lenses glinted in the low light of the maintenance tunnel. A tall red... Thing? Hat! A tall red hat with a wide brim flopped around its head as two long stalks, one thin and twiggy in a heart-shaped pattern, and the other long and feathered with the same motif, lifted in agitation.
“You don't like whatcha see, Baby?” A surprisingly handsome voice leered at him from behind glowing pale red teeth—With a gold tooth, he noted, “I promise you this, Sweet Thing, I was quite a looker when I was alive.”
When he was alive?
Out of the frying pan and into the fucking inferno, apparently. Tyrone glanced behind him and decided to take his chance on the thing that was capable of speech.
“Man, we don't got time for this shit, those— They're comin', and they'll send you right back where you came from.” The human took the too-long, too-big hand still in the air where his face had been and bolted without thinking.
Two corners, this time, were turned with a steady clicking of the exceedingly tall man's (?) heels. Until he felt they were alone enough, Tyrone wasn't going to stop moving, and it seemed his unwitting passenger was just along for the ride. Whatever was behind him, Tyrone would deal with later. If something was going to kill him, it would be the infected. Whatever this thing was, this guy, he thought, was at least someone he could reason with. There was no reasoning with the infected.
When they were finally a safe distance from the hoard of zombies behind them, Tyrone finally came to a stop, winded. It seemed the thing tagging along with him was, too, if the loud wheezing and coughing to his right said anything.
“The fuck...” Tyrone finally began, looking up from where he held his knees in both hands, “Are you?”
“Sure is a rude-ass thing to ask someone you just fuckin’ met.” The creature snapped, narrowing his eyes as he leaned forward on his knees.
“You're not human, are you?" The human asked, narrowing his eyes, and the demon before him laughed, straightening up to his natural, impossible height. Tyrone didn't know just how tall, but this thing—guy—was huge.
”I'm not anymore, no, Baby. You got a couple more questions before you wear out my patience. Daddy don't got all damn day, now.”
“Daddy?” Tyrone's voice was flat, and the creature sighed.
“How about I introduce myself, Baby? Valentino, Overlord of lust and depravity in Hell.”
“Hell? Demons?!“ Tyrone whipped around in a circle, hands on his head, elbows tented, ”Fucking shit, man, like I need this bullshit.“ He tapped his chest, and Valentino's head lifted when he heard a familiar sound of fabric paper.
”Got somethin' you need to unload, Baby? Daddy loves money. You give me what you got and I'll triple it when you die.“ He held out a hand, ”Deal?“
Tyrone narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing that hand before his brain caught up to him. Grabbing Val's hand, he shook it eagerly, readily willing to make triple what he had on his person.
”Deal!“ It sounded too good to be true because it was. Pulling the bag off his shoulder and emptying the cash out of his pockets into it, he handed the bag over to the other man, watching him shoulder it without a single problem.
”See you in Hell, Baby~“ Valentino purred, disappearing suddenly in another cloud of red, cherry-scented smoke.
Tyrone didn't know exactly how short his time before seeing Valentino was going to be, unfortunately.
