DIY Nails Every Girl Should Try While Stuck at Home
Stuck at home and looking for a way to unleash your creativity? One of the most fun and affordable ways to pamper yourself is by experimenting with DIY nails.
Not only can you save money by avoiding the salon, but you also get to explore your own style and create stunning nail art that reflects your personality. Whether you’re new to nail art or an experienced pro, there are plenty of creative ideas to try. Here’s a list of DIY nails every girl should try while stuck at home.
1. Classic French Tips with a Twist
The French manicure is a timeless classic, but you can easily give it a modern spin. Instead of the typical white tips, try using bold colors like pastel blues, soft pinks, or even gold foil. You can also add tiny embellishments like rhinestones or glitter to make them pop.
How to Do It:
Apply a base coat to protect your nails.
Use tape or a stencil to create the tip design.
Paint the tips in your color of choice, then add glitter or rhinestones for extra flair.
Finish with a top coat to lock in the design.
2. Ombré Nails
Ombré nails create a gradient effect that looks beautiful and sophisticated. You can experiment with different color combinations, such as nude to pink, black to silver, or even vibrant rainbow hues.
How to Do It:
Start with a base coat.
Apply the lightest color on the bottom of your nails and the darkest at the top.
Use a makeup sponge to gently blend the two colors together, dabbing it lightly on your nails.
Let it dry and finish with a clear top coat.
3. Marble Nails
Marble nails are elegant and eye-catching, and surprisingly easy to achieve at home. This look is perfect if you're aiming for something chic yet unique.
How to Do It:
Apply a base color (usually white or light gray).
Drop a few small dots of nail polish in different colors (black, gray, or even gold) onto a piece of plastic or foil.
Use a toothpick to swirl the colors together to create a marble effect.
Dip your nails into the design and carefully pull them out. Seal with a top coat.
4. Polka Dots
Polka dots are playful and fun, and they work with any nail length or shape. This nail art is super simple and can be done in a variety of color schemes.
How to Do It:
Paint your nails with a base color of your choice.
Once dry, use a dotting tool or the end of a bobby pin to create polka dots.
Choose a contrasting color for the dots to make them stand out.
Finish with a glossy top coat for extra shine.
5. Geometric Nails
Geometric nails are modern and minimalist, featuring sharp lines and bold shapes. You can combine colors like black, gold, or metallics for a sleek and stylish look.
How to Do It:
Apply a base coat and let it dry.
Use tape or nail striping tape to create triangles, squares, or lines.
Fill in the shapes with contrasting colors, using a fine brush or nail polish pen.
Let the design dry completely, and apply a top coat for a smooth finish.
6. Floral Nails
Floral nail designs are perfect for spring and summer, and they add a touch of whimsy to any outfit. You can create small flower patterns with bright colors or opt for more subdued tones for a softer look.
How to Do It:
Apply a neutral base color to your nails.
Using a small dotting tool or a fine nail brush, create flower petals by placing small dots in a circle shape.
Add tiny dots in the center of each flower for the finishing touch.
Finish with a top coat to protect the design.
7. Glitter Gradient
If you love glitter, then this is the perfect DIY nail art for you. Glitter gradient nails add a little sparkle and shine, creating a subtle yet glamorous effect.
How to Do It:
Apply a base color and let it dry.
Choose a glitter polish (in any color) and apply it starting from the tips of your nails, gradually fading it down toward the cuticle.
Layer more glitter for a stronger gradient effect, and finish with a top coat for smoothness.
8. Negative Space Nails
Negative space nails are all about leaving parts of the nail bare for a minimalist, modern look. You can incorporate different patterns like stripes, shapes, or even a French tip with exposed nail areas.
How to Do It:
Start with a base coat and let it dry.
Use tape or stencils to create lines or patterns on your nails.
Paint over the design, leaving parts of your nail exposed.
Remove the tape or stencil once the polish is dry and finish with a top coat.
9. Color Blocking Nails
Color blocking nails involve painting different sections of the nails with contrasting colors, creating a bold, geometric look.
How to Do It:
Start with a base coat and allow it to dry.
Apply tape to divide your nails into sections.
Paint each section a different color, such as pastels, neon shades, or metallics.
Once the polish is dry, remove the tape and seal with a top coat.
10. Nail Foils
Nail foils are an easy way to add a touch of luxury to your nails. You can use foils in various colors and patterns, from metallic gold to holographic designs.
How to Do It:
Apply a base coat and let it dry.
Use a special adhesive designed for nail foils, and apply it where you want the foil to stick.
Gently place the foil onto the nails, pressing lightly to adhere.
Top with a clear coat to finish the look.
Final Thoughts
DIY nails are a fun way to express your creativity and try new styles while stuck at home. Whether you want something simple and chic or bold and colorful, there’s a DIY nail art technique for everyone. All you need is some polish, a few tools, and a little patience. So grab your nail polish and get creative—your nails are the perfect canvas for self-expression!

Pink French Tips – My Nail Art Obsession (and How You Can Do Them Too!)
Okay, confession time: I’m obsessed with pink french tip nails. They’re like the little black dress of the nail world – classic, chic, and perfect for any occasion. I mean, who doesn’t love that clean line of pink against a soft, natural base? It’s just so darn flattering!
But here’s the thing: while I love the look, I’m not exactly a nail salon regular. So, I’ve become a total pro at doing pink french tips myself at home. It’s actually way easier than you might think!
Why Pink French Tips Rule
Let’s be real, there’s a reason why pink french tip nails have been around forever. Here’s what makes them so awesome:
They work on everyone: Seriously, no matter your skin tone or nail shape, pink french tips somehow manage to look amazing. Plus, they have a lengthening effect that makes your fingers look super pretty. #longandlovely
They’re low-key chic: Need a manicure that looks put-together but won’t clash with your outfit? Pink french tips are your answer. They’re perfect for work, school, or even a night out with the girls.
They’re chip-resistant champions: Let’s face it, chipped nails are the worst. The good news is that with pink french tips, a small chip on the tip is way less noticeable than a chip on a fully colored nail. Plus, as your nails grow out, there’s a natural gradient effect that helps hide it even more. Score!
Taking Your Pink French Tips Up a Notch
Okay, so classic pink french tips are great, but there’s room to play around too! Here are some fun ways to personalize your mani:
Pink it Up!: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shades of pink! A baby pink base with a hot pink tip adds a playful pop, while a dusty rose base with a soft mauve tip creates a more sophisticated vibe.
Glitter Power!: Want some sparkle? Add a touch of glitter to your french tip for instant glam. You can go subtle shimmer or full-on disco ball vibes, it’s all up to you!
French with a Twist: Feeling adventurous? Ditch the classic straight line and try a wavy french tip, a v-shaped design, or even an angled french.
Accessorize Your Nails: Think tiny rhinestones, metallic nail art tape, or even cute decals. Just remember, keep it balanced – the pink french tip should still be the star of the show!
DIY Pink French Tips: You Got This!
So, convinced that pink french tips are the way to go? Awesome! Here’s how to achieve salon-worthy nails from the comfort of your own couch (bonus points for comfy PJs and Netflix!):
Prep Party: Clean, dry nails are key! Push back your cuticles gently and buff your nails for a smooth surface.
Base Coat Boss: Apply a thin layer of base coat to protect your nails and help your polish last longer.
Sheer Pink Perfection: For the base, choose a sheer pink polish or a light, natural-looking shade. Two thin coats are your friend here, letting each dry completely before adding the next.
French Tip Magic: This is where it gets fun (and maybe a little tricky)! There are a few ways to get that perfect pink french tip nails. You can use special french tip guides, a thin nail art brush, or even a toothpick dipped in polish (although this one takes some practice!).
The Final Flourish
Alright, your pink french tip nails are looking fierce! Here’s how to keep them that way:
Shiny Savior: Slap on a good top coat. It’ll seal everything in, prevent chipping, and make those nails shine like nobody’s business. Get a quick-drying one – trust me, your fingers will thank you!
Cuticle TLC: Don’t forget the cuticles! Regularly using cuticle oil keeps them healthy and moisturized, which adds a whole new level of polish (pun intended!) to your mani.
Oops-Proofing: We all make mistakes, nail art mishaps included. If you mess up a line, no worries! Just grab a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover and clean it up. Easy peasy!
Pink French Tips: Your New Nail BFF
Pink french tip nails are like the ultimate nail BFF – reliable, stylish, and always down for whatever you have planned. They’re easy to DIY at home, don’t require a ton of skill, and can be dressed up or down.
Plus, they look good on everyone! So next time you’re looking for a manicure that won’t disappoint, give pink french tips a try. You might just fall in love (like I totally have).
Now, I gotta dash and paint my nails hot pink with a glitter tip – feeling a little adventurous today! But before I go, spill the tea! What are your favorite nail polish colors?

gorillaz headcanons i’ve conjured up over the years
a little long, but i’m posting this as a ref for myself and future art/fics :) what are your headcanons?
- Murdoc quotes memes wrong all the time, unironically. This infuriates Noodle, and 2D usually has to calm her down afterwards.
- Russel competes in drag competitions in his spare time. The others like to buy him accessories for his birthday.
- Murdoc anonymously votes for Russel in these competitions whenever he can. Nobody knows about this.
- Russel and Murdoc have comforted each other during drunken stupors many, many times.
- Ace had trouble understanding 2D’s thick accent during his time in the band. It was super awkward.
- Noodle sat Ace down once and tried explaining the lore of Gorillaz to him. He didn’t understand any of it, and is still confused to this day.
- Murdoc used to be terrified of Russel, but now finds immense comfort in his company.
- Murdoc and 2D try to one-up each other all the time.
- Murdoc has always been self conscious about his eyebrows, but 2D convinces him to uncover them on occasion.
- Murdoc is also incredibly, INCREDIBLY self conscious about his height and envies 2D immensely over it. This is the reason he wears boots all the time.
- Noodle used to sneak into Murdoc’s Winnebago as a kid whenever there was a thunderstorm.
- Noodle is deathly afraid of fire, heights, and loud noises thanks to the events of Demon Days.
- Russel can list every band member’s favorite thing off the top of his head. Upon realizing this, Murdoc, 2D and Noodle came together in an effort to find out what all of Russel’s favorite things were.
- 2D is great with kids.
- Murdoc used to have to steal food and clothes out of the trash before the band was formed. He is now very possessive of these things.
- 2D hits his head on low hanging objects a lot.
- Russel and 2D like to stargaze and meditate together.
- Noodle once tried teaching 2D Japanese, but he was really bad at it.
- 2D then tried teaching himself French, but he was also really bad at that.
- 2D’s mother has a habit of rambling, while his father is super awkward and hard to hear. 2D inherited a combination of both these traits.
- 2D has zero self awareness and will blast music and horror movies from his phone in public.
- Murdoc collects weird mugs.
- 2D collects expensive watches.
- Noodle collects creepy toys she finds at yard sales/thrift stores.
- Russel collects broken appliances.
- Noodle and 2D like to style each other’s hair.
- 2D is a huge advocate for platonic kissing.
- 2D has tried helping Noodle go vegan, but she loves sushi and chicken nuggets too much to commit.
- Russel is a master of Monopoly, which infuriates Murdoc, who feels he should be a natural at it.
- Russel and Noodle perform an intense workout routine every week. 2D and Murdoc tried to join them once, but 2D promptly passed out and Murdoc broke his own foot with a dumbbell.
- Murdoc took Noodle to a strip club as a birthday surprise one year. She ended up having to drive them home when Murdoc got shitfaced and threatened the bouncer.
- Murdoc still ruffles Noodle’s hair like he did when she was a kid, much to her annoyance.
- Noodle simps for Lola Bunny.
- 2D is a monsterfucker.
- Murdoc can drive well irl but absolutely sucks at Mario Kart (and most video games, honestly).
- He really, REALLY enjoyed GTA 5 though. 2D and Noodle couldn’t pry him away from the game for a good month when he first played it.
- 2D loves moving things an inch away from their original position just to mess with Murdoc.
- 2D cracks his joints in the loudest, most obnoxious way possible, and can never seem to stop shaking his legs.
- 2D and Noodle send each other the raunchiest, most grotesque furry porn they can find. They are in an unspoken competition to find the worst of the worst.
- If Murdoc doesn’t make a conscious effort not to, he will always touch or lean on whoever is near him.
- Russel can recall animal facts on the fly.
- Russel used to be really into making taxidermy. 2D thinks this is the coolest thing ever, but would never have the heart or stomach to do it himself.
- Russel is jealous that 2D is so good at crocheting and wishes he had the nimble fingers required to do it.
- Russel was honestly hurt when Noodle got her first tattoo. Not that he didn’t like it, he just didn’t want to acknowledge that she was growing up.
- Murdoc and 2D have each other’s faces tattooed somewhere on their body. This was the result of a drunken bet lost on both parts.
- Russel was the first person Noodle came out to. He was also the first person Murdoc came out to.
- Murdoc tries getting Noodle a girlfriend every time they go out together. This has only ever ended horribly.
- Murdoc got 2D hooked on chewing toothpicks instead of his nails.
- Noodle thought Murdoc’s raven Cortez was so cool she tried catching her own pet bird, a vulture she found eating the corpse of a zombie in the yard of Kong Studios. It failed horribly and she almost got dragged off the cliff. Russel got her Katsu instead.
- Noodle once tried stealing Murdoc’s porn magazines as a prank, but accidentally stumbled upon his collection of nudes and raunchy fanmail. The memory still haunts her.
- 2D is interested in tons of things and has considered becoming a dentist, a model, a lawyer, a camp counselor, a filmmaker, a zookeeper and a teacher.
- 2D often speaks without thinking and has lost many potential romantic partners because of it.
- Noodle is a little jealous that 2D can lick his elbows.
- Russel has the most charm out of all of them, no questions asked.
- Murdoc likes to appear as if he knows a lot about cars, but Russel is always the one who fixes them.
- 2D and Murdoc have tased each other.
- Murdoc taught Noodle how to dance. 2D and Russel have walked in on this several times, much to Murdoc’s embarrassment.
- Murdoc unapologetically wears makeup and scoffs at anyone who calls it “girly”.
- Branching off of this, Murdoc does everyone’s makeup.
- Russel is plagued with nightmares, which is why he’s always tired.
- Russel and Noodle have had too many offscreen adventures to count, many of which involving them nearly dying or being sued (don’t even get Russel started on the time Noodle climbed into the tiger pen at the zoo and single-handedly fought them all off).
- Russel likes going to odd conventions (washing machine con, vacuum con, etc.) The others are always surprised and extremely confused whenever he mentions he’s going to one, and it’s never the same one twice.
- Murdoc has misophonia.
- 2D has dyspraxia.
- Noodle has tons of secret social media accounts she uses to mess with fans.
- Murdoc is scared of apes.
- 2D isn’t one for confrontation, but god help you if you get a horror movie fact wrong.
- 2D and Noodle stay up late and watch true crime/conspiracy documentaries together.
- Russel once sat Noodle down to give her ‘The Talk’ about drugs and alcohol, but was surprised to discover that Murdoc already had.

The Vines that bind us - Chapter 1
Disclaimer: I don’t own Miraculous Ladybug or any DC characters. I own only the plot, and even that is inspired by the amazing story "Marigold Ivy" by @lwandile13 on Wattpad. Go check it. It's great. He allowed me to take some inspiration, for which I'm grateful. Also, don't translate the french words maybe. Or at least do it on your own responsibility. Big thanks to @Liza! on Discord for being my Beta :)
NEXT
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was a normal girl, with a normal life. But she had a secret. Her real name was Marigold Isley. She was born under that name in Gotham city sixteen years ago. Her mother never revealed to her who was her father, but Mari never cared. She was happy with her mom and several aunts and uncles. Technically, none of them were related to her by blood, but Rogues were quite close to each other (excluding some outcasts like Joker or the Menagerie). They taught her many interesting things such as lockpicking, stealth 101, or hand-to-hand combat. She was five when it started, so her first-ever practical test was breaking into a kitchen cupboard and stealing a jar of cookies. Overall, she was very happy.
It changed when she was eight. One very tired social service person named Elizabeth Barrow got wind of a child of a villain. That Elizabeth was new to Gotham after being reassigned from Metropolis and didn’t yet get the wind of how things worked. Maybe her colleagues didn’t like her, or maybe she was just too overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the problem in Gotham. Previously, there was an unspoken agreement in the government that they wouldn’t notice Marigold. In exchange, rogues were calmer. Or at least tried to keep the death toll down. For a time, Gotham even started to slowly heal. But then, Elizabeth took the case of Marigold Isley. Ivy tried to fight. To protect her daughter. For three days, the city was held hostage by giant plants. It was only the fear in her daughter’s eyes that made Poison Ivy relent and let go. She didn’t want that life for Marigold. The one condition she gave was that the girl would leave America as a whole, to ensure she would be safe from all the madness.
And so Marigold ended up in the care of baker’s couple in Paris. She never showed any powers thus far and the adoption agency kept the parentage a secret. That’s when Marinette Dupain-Cheng was born. She continued with martial arts training and stealth training, but now only as fun and reminder of her mother and extended family, as opposed to actual necessary survival tool. She also picked up designing as another hobby, which soon turned into a kind of obsession. She was generally a ray of sunshine.
The one black spot in the happy world of Marinette was the Mayor’s daughter. Chloe Bourgeoise considered herself above others and just couldn’t stand sunshine girl. She ruined her clothes, sometimes damaged her homework, or verbally assaulted her. While Chloe was generally disliked, she was more of a nuance. Overall, Marinette was happy. At least until two events changed that.
When she was twelve, Paris was attacked by Hawkmoth for the first time. Marinette found herself becoming Ladybug, a superhero with magical powers that protected the city from harm. She received a partner in form of Chat Noir. It took some time before she got hang of it, and then more time before she and Chat became an actual team. Over time, more heroes joined them, even if temporarily only. She had people she could count on. She became Happy again.
Privately, she started her own brand: MDC, managed to become a class representative, and became best friends with Alya, who joined around the same time she became Ladybug. It was quite ironic. The superhero was best friends with one person whose greatest dream was to unmask the hero. Marinette also developed a huge (and a bit unhealthy) crush on Adrien Agreste, a famous model who was in her class. She spent years vying for his attention, but nothing ever came from her attempts. She was unable to even say a word around him and her face always became red like her mother’s hair. Overall, she couldn’t complain.
Then, when she was fifteen another black spot appeared. It was Lila (Liela) Rossi. She came to their school and immediately started sporting lies with every breath. Surprisingly, everyone seemed to buy into that, believing her like she spoke the gospel. Everyone but Marinette. She tried to expose Lila, but it only backfired. She became an outcast, disliked by everyone, and universally hated. Suddenly, it became okay to bully her because she was a bully herself and deserved it. It became okay to shun her and no longer include her in anything. The worst was Alya, her former best friend. At first, she just tried to nudge Marinette to give Lila a chance. When Marinette tried to show the truth, Alya practically attacked her. She was just as much responsible for Mari being cast out as Lila was. The fact that her best friend abandoned her only fueled the gossip and allowed Lila to drive the final nail in. In the span of a few weeks, Marinette was left alone.
Around the same time, Chat Noir became more persistent in his pursuit of her while Adrien, who Marinette knew was aware of the lies, was only telling her to keep the high road (do nothing). She could understand him. As a famous model and son of a well-known fashion designer, he was always taught to not provoke the press. It still served as a wake-up call on her crush.
--------
Marinette was packing her things after lessons when she noticed someone approach her from behind. Immediately, she tensed. After eleven years of martial arts practice, it was an instinct. Before she had time to turn around, something heavy landed on her desk with a loud Thud!. She turned to see Chloe standing over a large book, a single thick envelope, and a puffy bag that content Marinette couldn’t guess.
“What’s a…” She started, but Chloe cut her off. She had her usual ‘resting witch’ expression.
“The book contains every single instance I verbally assaulted you, destroyed something of yours, talked about you behind your back, or in any way otherwise did something wrong toward you. Here are the materials for the damaged clothes,” she pushed the bag toward her, “and here is money for other things.” Chloe gave her the envelope. “I apologize for all of that. I was jealous of all the attention you kept getting even though I thought I deserved it. I now realize that my behavior was wrong and hurtful. I will understand if you’ll never speak to me again. I kept acting ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!” With that, she turned and started to walk again. Marinette idly noticed that there was no Sabrina nearby. Thinking back, Chloe was no longer acting (overly) mean toward anyone as of late.
Making a split-second decision, Marinette raced after the blonde and pulled her into a hug.
“Wha…” Chloe yelped before sinking into the hug. Neither girl realized they were crying until they finally separated. Blonde had her lite make-up in total ruin while Marinette had tears still going down her cheeks. “Does that mean you accept my apologies?”
Marinette didn’t answer immediately. She stood there with open mouth for a moment before smiling weakly. “Yes, Chloe.”
Since that day, they were best friends. It turned out to be a blessing. Chloe, once she finally allowed someone to truly know her, turned out to be a highly intelligent, funny, and very much still overbearing person. She still acted high and mighty, but it no longer felt mean, rather just… felt. She took to defending Marinette from the rest of the class. She was aware of Lila’s lies from day one but never acted on it until it was too late. Sabina abandoned her for the liar. Dealing with loneliness was hard on her. She didn’t even have parents that cared. Her father would probably move sun if she asked, but he had an emotional range of a toothpick. Her mother didn’t even know her name, so she didn’t bother.
Something about their friendship must’ve upset Lila because the girl upped her game. Marinette’s parents suddenly found themselves facing strong critique and constant inspection from the sanitary department and child protection questioning their parenting abilities. MDC, who was slowly becoming one of the go-to fashion designers for famous found herself in the middle of several fake media scandals, including one lawsuit over defamation. If it wasn’t for Jagged Stone and Penny rallying her customers, Marinette and her parents would end up broke. He managed to save MDC and practically made her untouchable. Still, Alya and Lila got off scot-free as nothing could be linked to them.
Perhaps what pushed Lila over the edge was Chloe confronting Adrien. She yelled at him for good two hours straight about responsibility and morality, pointing in detail exactly what he did wrong. She would probably go on if Marinette didn’t stop her. After that, Adrien finally apologized and tried to make things right, but it only turned against him. By then, Lila had everyone so deep into it, that he was powerless. She didn’t go after him as her partnership with Gabriel Agreste was too important, but she did tattle to the Fashion Mogul about it. Gabriel tried to get his son under control, but this was one thing that he couldn’t achieve.
It did inspire a whole youth fashion line ‘rebel’, which became a global hit.
All this time, Marinette kept two secrets. One was her identity as Ladybug and the guardian, the other was her true name and family. Until she kept neither.
----------
Marinette returned home after another day at school. Recently, her mother revealed she was pregnant with another child, even though she was believed to be barren. Everyone in the bakery was overjoyed and the couple even started to hand out small treats to any guest that came. The free samples helped the business return to a better standing.
When she entered, strangely there was no sound in the bakery. It was empty. Usually, her parents would both be very busy as it was still business hours. Slightly worried, she went upstairs. When she entered the living room, she found an envelope addressed to her.
Isley
We tried, but we can no longer tolerate you. We turned a blind eye when we learned how improper you act, trying to drag every boy you meet for some, and we quote, “alone time”. We didn’t react to the bullying accusations, believing them to be overexaggerated. Even when you were expelled, we still had hoped you’ll turn out into a fine young lady. But now, we must think of the baby. Today was the last straw. Hearing about how you ruined that poor impaired girl’s birthday was both cruel and against everything we taught you.
We held hope you won’t follow in your mother’s footsteps, but you proved us wrong several times. We supported your obsession over fashion, even with the drama it caused, because it was actually non-violent. At first, we didn’t want to teach you how to fight, but we convinced ourselves that you would have a way to vent the emotions somewhere away from us.
Please, don’t try looking for us. We will probably have already left the country or even the continent. The bakery is yours. We don’t want to have anything to do with the spawn of evil such as you.
We hoped you would turn out better
Sincerely,
Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng
Marinette tried to read it over and over again, but her eyes welled with tears. She had no idea she was screaming until her throat was coarse. Rationally, she knew she needed to keep calm or she would attract the Akuma, but emotions made her not care.
Unknowingly to her, the plants all around Paris responded to her cry. They started growing and spreading, trying to get to their queen and comfort her. The Akuma that would’ve come for her stumbled into one of the vines, corrupting it. Hawkmoth was surprised, it was not something anyone ever seen in Paris except on TV or some strange Japanese shows that play after midnight. The more important thing was that even though he akumatized the plants, he had no control over them. He couldn’t even recall his Akuma.
Back in Marinette’s living room, she started to feel the ground rumble. Soon, plants exploded from the ground and broke windows. She slowly looked at her hands to see them tinted with green. They were not the same as her mother’s, but close. She looked to the floor where pieces of glass littered everything. Her face was the same, but her hair became blue and her eyes were now the most vibrant iridescent green she’s ever seen, exactly the same color her mother’s eyes were.
She started to panic even more. Tikki floated next to her, talking to her, but Marinette couldn’t hear her. Or maybe process it. She could hear the plants call to her. She could hear them speak. They promised her revenge. They promised retribution on those who attacked her. God’s wrath would rain upon them from the sky and hell’s fury would consume them from beneath.
Impaired girl…
“Liar Rossi.” Marigold seethed. She knew there was only one person who would do such a thing. Only one talented enough to convince her parents she was a villain. If they wanted a villain, they would get one. Her mind was being clouded. Her clothes were already torn, replaced by a skintight outfit made of leaves, much like her mother wore. Then, Marinette remembered another part of the letter. She added a skirt made of purple petals that complimented her blue hair nicely and long sleeves that reached to her hands, ending with a triangle that reached her middle finger and surrounded it at the base. She left the decolletage as it was.
Exiting her house, she allowed the vines to carry her. There were only so many places The Liar could hide. First, she went toward School, as it was closest. She made plants carry her over the roof right into the courtyard while more of them broke the doors and blocked any exit. The fencing class was still going on, but The Liar was not there. She looked over the scared crowd, spotting two people she wanted to find. She needed to protect them from The Liar, else they end like her. She grabbed the fencer in a red outfit and her partner, knocking their masks to reveal Kagami and Adrien. The plants wrapped around them, forming a sort of cocoon before dragging them to the heart. Marinette then turned her sight to Eifel tower. She knew The Liar liked to drag the class there.
As she moved through town, she passed the Hotel where Chloe lived. Pausing, she made the plants lift her toward the balcony. Her best friend was indeed there, right next to the lit-up Bee-signal. Honeystly…
“Marinette!?” The blonde jumped in surprise
“Marinette is gone. She should’ve never even been. I’m Marigold, the daughter of Poison Ivy.” For a moment, the fog thickened, but Mari shook it off quickly enough, before whatever caused it managed to get the hold of her.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng! If you got yourself akumatized, I’m telling my daddy!” Chloe shouted. Seeing the tears form in the iridescent green eyes, she looked at her friend with pity. “Oh, Mari! Is this the Liar again? Come here right now!” The blonde spread her arms for a hug. She didn’t care about the Akuma. Her friend needed her and she would help her conquer the world if she asked. Chloe owed Mari… everything. She helped her evolve beyond being the queen witch. In response to the gesture, the plants in the garden started to grow until they surrounded the two of them in a tight cocoon. Marinette stepped onto the balcony. She affectionately petted the vine that carried her so far before allowing it to return to its hunt for the Liar.
“Chloeee!” Mari launched herself at the girl. She sunk into the embrace, allowing tears to start flowing again. She sobbed her heart out while pushing a piece of paper she constantly held in her clutched fist before. The blonde took it and read while patting Marinette on the back of her head.
“Salauds! Ridiculous! Utterly Ridiculous! How dare that cochons! And the chienne! Wait till I tell daddy about this! Don’t worry Mari. I will protect you! I will ruin her! Merde!” The rant made Marigold pause. She never heard Chloe curse. Like… never. “But first. Mari. You know I love you and I would help you hide the body, but drop the Akuma. It’s making you look Ridiculous. Utterly Ridiculous! I mean the dress is so much spot on and so you, but the whole take over Paris is more my style. I can let you be my faithful sidekick while we take over the world if you want.”
For a moment, Marigold continued to stare at Chloe before she burst out in a fit of laughter. It wasn’t a nervous chuckle or the villain cackle, but genuine pearly laughter. It was just so… Chloe-ish. She couldn’t imagine anyone trying to dissuade an Akuma by offering to become a sidekick.
“You… You… Never change Chlo.” Mari smiled at her friend.
“Whoa. You… didn’t make me a fertilizer? I mean, of course, you wouldn’t. You are just too good of a person, but Hawkmoth…”
“I’m not akumatized Chloe.” Mari smiled. “It’s me.” As if to prove her point, she stood up and spun, allowing the blonde to see her from all sides. “This is how I really look. Apparently, I do take some after my mom.”
“Your… mom?”
“Pamela Isley, she was a famous biologist. Mom was brilliant. She used to be one of the smartest people in the world.” Mari praised. “There was this one accident that she is now famous for…”
“Pamela Isley? I remember reading about her.”
“Yeah… She is…”
“Didn’t she create this environment-friendly line of cosmetics?” Chloe asked in her typical fashion
“Yes! I have no idea why everyone remembers her only for the ‘Poison Ivy’ thing!”
“I know, right?” Chloe nodded. “Wait a…”
“Tada!” Mari said weakly before trying to look away, doing everything not to look her friend in the eyes. The blonde gently grabbed her chin and moved it so she could look right into the beautiful green eyes of her best friend.
“Mari! If you think I would abandon you just because your mother took veganism too far… You’re utterly ridiculous!”
Marigold smiled slightly. Slowly, the green receded and her eyes turned back to normal. The dress remained, as without it she would end up naked and she didn’t fancy trying to explain to anyone that.
She then turned to the plants and tried to order them to return to normal, only for them to resist. For a moment, her mind started to feel fogged, but it didn’t hold at all now.
“As much as I like the scenery, maybe we stop the plantpocalypse?”
“Um… Remember how I told you I wasn’t akumatized?”
“Yeah?”
“I think the plants are…”
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Chloe shouted. “Listen here Hawkmoth! Get this Akuma the heck away! I don’t care about some fancy Jewels that will totally clash with your suit! I mean purple and white with red earrings? Are you colorblind?”
There was no visible reaction to the plants.
“Strange…” Marigold ran her hand over the plants. “They still respond, just refuse to yield.” Inside, Mari cursed that she couldn’t consult Tikki.
“So… Want some cookies?” Chloe asked. “We just have to wait for Ladybug to save the day. At least the damage will be repaired.”
‘Except Ladybug it trapped here…’
Suddenly, something small and black slipped through the vines and entered their small peaceful enclave. It zoomed between items on the balcony, trying to avoid being seen. It would’ve been successful if Chloe didn’t know about Kwamis.
“What was that!?” She shouted pointing at Plagg’s hiding place.
“What? I didn’t see anything!” Mari tried to lie. It was the one skill she never had. She did compensate for it by never getting caught.
“A Kwami! I’m sure I’ve seen one.”
“Kwami? Who’s Kwami? Is that some bird? How would a bird get here? I mean we are trapped in…”
“Ugh! I don’t have time for games!” Plagg suddenly floated before the pair. “Chat is trapped and can’t help without revealing himself. Paris is being destroyed mindlessly and nobody can do anything as the vines are harder than steel.” The cat summarized. “And I’m hungry. Give me cheese!” He looked at Chloe. “Camembert would be the best, but I’m not that picky.”
“Why come to us? Ladybug took away my miraculous.” The blonde asked.
“I didn’t come to you. I came to her.” The god pointed at Mari.
“Me?! Why? It’s not like…”
“We don’t have time for charades guardian! The Akuma is out of control! Literally! Hawkmoth’s connection was somehow severed and now you have a giant plant that knows only the rage. This is serious!”
Mari wanted to protest or try to save some of her identity, but then Tikki floated out of her purse.
“Oh no! Marinette! He is right! We have a huge problem.”
“Why?” The girl asked resigned.
“You’re Ladybug!” Chloe shouted but was subsequently ignored
“Hawkmoth must’ve akumatized the plant, hoping to control you, but he had no idea it was sentient. But it stopped being sentient the moment you let it go. I… It never happened before.”
“You’re Ladybug!!!” Chloe shouted so loud that everyone had to look at her.
“We can talk later. Now we need to somehow deal with the plants. Maybe… No. What about… But they are too tough… What if…” Marigold started to run through various scenarios and plans.
“Can’t you just order them to expel the Akuma?” Plagg asked bored.
“It… It might work.” Mari had a focused expression. In her head, she was running through all her knowledge of biology, miraculous magic, and how her mom’s powers worked. Hesitantly, she walked to the edge of the cocoon and called the main vine to her. The wall spread slightly and allowed the tip of it to enter. Mari touched it and started gently caressing it.
“you’re a good boy. Yeah! Who’s a good boy? You’re. Yes! You’re a good boy. But Good Boys don’t have Akuma. Do you want to be a good boy? Of course, you do…”
Chloe stood there and watched how Marigold kept talking to the plant like it was a puppy. She felt something fall into her hand. Opening the palm, she saw two earrings.
“I… I can’t!” She protested, but Plagg floated before her eyes.
“She can’t do it. If Akuma escapes, we will have plantmagedon on a larger scale.”
“Fine. Spots on!”
Just as Mari finally talked the plant into expelling the Akuma, Chloe caught it.
“Bye Bye Little Butterfly!” She released the pure white bug. “Lucky charm!” Chloe shouted. A red and black folder fell into her hands. She looked at it curiously. Inside, she found a complete set of adoption papers for her father to sign. She quickly pulled out the sheets and tossed the folder itself, releasing a swarm of ladybugs that repaired Paris to how it was before plants. The sheet stayed.
Transformation dropped after that and Chloe handed the jewel back to the true owner.
“You still have sooo much explaining to do!”
Nobody remembered about Adrien and Kagami being carried together to safety, which turned out to be Mari’s basement. And while Ladybug Cure should’ve restored them to where they were taken from, for some unknown reason they remained locked there until Mari returned late into the evening to spend the last night at the bakery. It would be some time until Tikki admitted that it was an act of revenge on Plagg for revealing her chosen’s identity. He had to go the whole day without cheese. The one good thing that came from it was that Kagami and Adrien had a long frank talk and ended up as friends. The relationship just wasn’t working.
----------
When Mari was adopted by the Mayor, she decided to keep using the Dupain-Cheng name at least for now. At first, Chloe’s father was against it, but once the girl presented it as a way of getting good press of mayor who personally looks after his citizens he practically ripped the papers to sign them. Although on paper he was the adopter, Chloe was the real parent/sister that took care of Mari. Lila seethed and spitted, but couldn’t really do much more. Adrien and Chloe roped Jagged Stone and Penny into Marinette Protection Squad. Luka and Kagami, who somehow hooked up, also joined. At some point, Mari entrusted Luka and Kagami with permanent Miraculous and Gave Chloe the Bee miraculous back. Some Fox illusion of Chloe publically applauding new heroine helped hide her identity. The hardest part was revealing to Chat, Viperion, and Ryuko her true identity. Adrien was a big surprise, but at least they finally dealt with their crushes once and for all. The fact that they were in love square in two people was way too awkward. Chloe and Mari did notice Adrien sometimes looking at Luka, but he was happy with Kagami. The only person that disproved of ‘Lukagami’ was Kagami’s mother, but she warmed up to him when he accepted the challenge to a duel and was completely pacified when she learned that Luka is apprenticing under Jagged Stone.
Jagged and Penny wanted to Adopt Mari, but ended up filling the role of uncle and aunt. After some time, Mari realized that she rebuilt what she once had in Gotham. These people might not have been her family by blood, but it mattered little. That family might’ve been damaged, maybe even broken, but they were happy together. They found solace in one another. Once more, Marinette was happy.
Until a trip to Gotham came knocking on the front doors.

Mondo Oowada x an effeminate male S/O
Request: Oml heyyy may I request a Mondo x male! S/O (imagine or headcanons i don't really know the difference dkfjlds) where the s/o is very feminine and tries to get Mondo to do feminine things? Painting nails, etc.
Of course! This was gonna be a head canon post but I just kept writing so I turned it into an imagine. The bullet points were getting too long LMAO, but it does include some personal headcanons throughout. And thank you for giving me my first ever request! Means the world to me! - Mod Kokichi
Imagine below the keep reading cut! SFW and no spoilers included~
Your first day at Hope’s Peak Academy as the Ultimate Tailor, you got teased a bit. It was inevitable. You were the new transfer student, fresh meat to pick on, and you were a dude in a skirt, a doubly enticing threat to bullies. Immature high-schoolers were always going to whisper and glare at the ones willing to step outside the norm.
On one of your first days there, during a particularly ruthless bullying session, the school’s hall monitor and student council president, Kiyotaka Ishimaru, stepped in after noticing the noise, breaking up the situation by standing between you and your oppressors.
“Bullying is not supported in this progressive and nurturing school environment!” Taka’s loud and volatile personality always made quick work of the school’s trouble-makers. He spun quickly around to you, inviting you to spend lunch at his table for your trouble.
You hesitantly agreed, but were glad you did in the end. That day, you met Taka’s best friend, Mondo Owada, a toothpick between his teeth and his feet kicked up onto the lunch table as he fixed his perfectly styled hair.
You immediately found him extremely attractive: the sharp jaw, the bit of chest hanging out the top of his tank top. Quickly, you fell into their little friend group full of excitable and extroverted men. There were random stragglers to your lunch table on certain days, with Akane and Shuichi tagging along occasionally, but the main staples that ate with you every single day were Fuyuhiko, Mondo, Taka, Kaito, and Nekomaru, subconsciously scaring away anyone who wanted to start shit.
You weren’t nearly as close to the rest of them as you were with Mondo, however. You often found yourself leaning against his chair, sharing your packed lunch with him, entranced when he laughed.
He found himself always hanging out with you, shootin’ the breeze, smoking up on the roof after classes, putting his hand around your shoulder when you told a joke that made him and Taka crack up at lunch. He kept many secrets of yours, and promised to take them to his grave.
When you came out to him as someone who likes men, he stuttered his response a little, but pulled it together.
“It takes a real man to admit what his heart’s feelin’, S/O, you can be sure your secret’s safe with me until you’re ready to tell everyone else.” Feeling the atmosphere become awkward out there alone on the rooftop, he quickly changed the subject “So, Ultimate Tailor, huh? Shit’s pretty sick. Seen some of your clothing designs out in the art wing’s showcase. Don’t tailors just tighten up and fix a person’s clothes, though?” You smiled at his interest in your field.
“Uh, yeah, normally I think they take in and size up clothes, b-but,” you put a hand to the back of your neck, nervous with his complete attention on you, “ I think some make designs from scratch, I have always loved making my own clothes. Maybe I should just be the Ultimate Fashionista instead of Enoshima…” you giggled, feigning envy humorously. Mondo smirked.
“Yeah, maybe you should. You gotta design me a new coat sometime. This one’s seen better days.” You both looked at the dirt caked at the bottom of his coat, permanent stains throughout, and loose threads hanging in random places.
“F-for sure!” You grinned.
Your days returned to normal, lunch together and group hangouts after school, but something was different...to Mondo at least. He had to admit, to himself only of course, that he felt a little jealous of you. You could just come out and tell him who you are inside. He could never be that open. He usually was the one keeping secrets, not expressing them. But then, he caught himself. Why should he feel jealous...he was a simple guy, he didn’t even have any secrets or desires to share, even with who would listen. He brushed it off as just his normal hot-headed mindset, and packed up his stuff in his bag for the day.
But the next few days, his eyes would linger on you even more, and he would become uncomfortable, his insides warm, his head clouded with that same envy tugging at his heart strings. In the hallway after last period, he kicked his locker, frustrated at this knot in his head and mind. What the fuck is up with him. Then it clicked…
“It takes a real man to admit what his heart’s feelin’.”
The next day, he pulled you out to the rooftop, his cheeks red and his heart beating wildly. You waited patiently, sitting down, figuring you were just in for another hang out session like usual, and pulled out your homework from third period, until he began to speak.
“L-look man, I have been thinkin’, ever since you told me you’re into dudes…”
Oh no...your head dropped expectantly. You felt like this was bound to come eventually, no matter what. He was this macho dude and hung around you all the time. It must be bothering him, ruining his rep-
“That shit takes heart, like I said before, and I owe you my truth too, r-right, since you trusted me with yours?” He startled you, looking for validation. Mondo only stuttered when he was pissed and screaming, but he looked nervous now, a look of begging to be understood that you empathized with all too well.
“I…” he looked out over the roof. Stop being a little bitch, Mondo, he seethed internally. “Fuck, I don’t know, man. I like you? I want us to be more than just friends. I mean, you’re cool as my bro, but…” He didn’t expect you to reach out and take his hand hesitantly, his cheeks flushing. You didn’t want his evident struggle to drag out until he blew a fuse.
“I think that sounds ‘sick’ ” you mused, taking up one of his favorite sayings. He nodded, a arm around your shoulder, unable to look you in the eyes. But he felt a wave of peace run over him.
Your close friends immediately picked up on this new relationship, seeing you lean on Mondo a little harder at lunch, Mondo’s blush as he rested his hand on yours over the table. Nekomaru slapped your shoulder loudly that first day as a new couple, almost shattering the bone there. He laughed, saying he couldn’t wait for you two to just finally admitted your feelings. A team works smoother when everyone is on the same page, after all.
Weeks passed, and inside school, there was little issue. It’s the 21st century. Most were accepting of your obvious relationship. Those bigots who weren’t didn’t try anything. No stupid ass student was picking on a dude with Mondo, Taka, Fuyuhiko, Kaito and Nekomaru at his back.
The problems started to arise when Mondo took you on rides on his bike, to his gang’s HQ or stomping grounds in general. That was the outside world, not an institution of modern and formal learning like Hope’s Peak. Japan itself was a little behind western society in terms of LGBT acceptance, and like the rest of the world, had a long ways to go.
With Mondo being the leader of a biker gang, a setting known for violence, masculinity, grit, toughness, and a yakuza-like brotherhood of men, it just wasn’t an environment most conducive to openly gay relationships, but no one in the gang dared to call out Mondo, knowing how hot-headed he is and ultimately respecting him as their leader. They owed him unconditional loyalty.
That was, until one day, a rather cheeky second-in-command saw you filing your nails, sitting in Mondo’s lap on a couch at HQ, and decided he’d had enough. He confronted you both in front of everyone, all eyes on you, making you shrink back into Mondo’s chest.
“Eh, boss. If you’re gonna have a dude in a fucking dress doin’ his nails and twirling like a princess on your dick, why not just date a chick? This is gettin’ a little embarassin.” He spoke angrily. Mondo was taken aback, not used to being challenged by his men, obviously the alpha of his pack. He paused, struggling to find a response.
“What’s the fuckin’ issue?! Like most of you idiots aren’t so close that you might as well be tuggin’ each other’s dicks anyway!” He spat defensively, refusing to take back talk from a subordinate. He looked down to your shaking form in his lap, seeing that you were obviously disappointed with his response and looked up at him with a bit of anger, tears at the corner of your eyes.
Why was he defending his rep, and attacking the man back? He should be defending the relationship, and pushing forward acceptance. It made you feel like he wasn’t proud of you, ashamed of what you two had become.
He saw this in your eyes and hated himself, changing his stance quickly. He scooped you up from under your thighs from his lap and set you on the couch beside him. He stood, stepping up to the out-of-line gang member, chest out, looking down on him with malice.
“Maybe you’ve forgotten your place, yeah? You forget who’s in charge? I’m involved with S/O, he’s with me, so he’s part of the gang. You’re gonna accept that, or there’s gonna be trouble to deal with, got me? What, you such a pussy that you can’t accept shit if it ain’t what you expect it to be?!” The second-in command cowered, breaking eye contact with Mondo, and the rest of the onlooking members returning to what they were doing. “Now, we got any other issues?”
When Mondo drove you home on his bike hours later, you sat behind him as always, but squeezed onto his waist a little tighter than usual, and his heart beat proudly, knowing for once he was sure he did the right thing. You two rode silently, you pecking his cheek before slipping inside your house. He walked back to his bike, blushing like mad, and you two texted all night.
The very next week, Mondo was over at your house for the first time, doing homework in your room. Well, that’s what you were supposed to be doing. Mondo wasn’t exactly the model student, much the the chagrin of his best friend Taka, and you just weren’t in the mood. And so you sat, him eating some chips from your pantry, watching you paint your nails on your bed, a towel to catch loose drips under your flattened out palm. You looked up to him, smiling at having his full attention on you as per usual when you were alone..
“Want me to paint yours next?” It just slipped out. You didn’t really mean it. A guy like Mondo wouldn’t want that, surely, but you figured it wouldn’t harm to tease him. To your surprise, he responded rather quickly.
“I seen Kaito walkin’ around this week with that shit on his nails. Maki apparently forced him to after he lost a bet to her. Didn’t look that bad, actually. Kinda looked sick with his jacket, all purple and shit,” he paused to think, “ fuck it, sure. But no pastel shit, yeah?” Your heart leapt with excitement. There’s no way you expected him to answer in a positive manner, but in this relationship, you quickly learned that you often underestimated Mondo, and let his macho-biker-gang persona leave you biased. You didn’t want people judging you by your sexuality or the eyeliner you wore, and suddenly felt hypocritical for ever pre-judging your big motorcylce-head of a boyfriend.
Mondo held his hands out after you finished, observing the slick coat of black polish that covered his once grisly and battered nails. Yes, you had to manicure them real quick to even get the polish to stick. They had dirt under them and the cuticles were disgusting.
“Hell yeah.” he simply spoke, smirking before pulling you in to lean on him as you finally pulled out your homework.
Weeks turned into months, and soon Mondo was watching you get your ears pierced again in a new place, then sitting in the chair to get his done. He took you, in turn, to get “ink that matched your bitchin’ sense of style” as he put it. The tattoo didn’t hurt as much as you thought it would, and certainly inspired you to design clothes that showed it off and accentuated it.

You’d been excited for weeks, and with good reason. A girl only turned eighteen once. And you were certain that your friends were throwing you a surprise party. How could they not? You’d thrown parties for Tina and Carol on their eighteenths and you were already planning one for Macy in July. They had to do the same for you, they loved you the same.
You’d hardly slept the night before, your favourite outfit laid out on your chair across from your bed and your alarm set fifteen minutes later than usual as a little gift to yourself. And when that alarm went off, you practically jumped out of bed. You’d never been excited for a school day in your life. You couldn’t keep the grin off your face, it was too infectious. It didn’t matter that the sky was grey and cloudy; you’d light up the whole town with your good mood.
“Y/N! Get up! You’re late!” you mother screamed from the bottom of the stairs, she sounded very annoyed. That wasn’t exactly the greeting that you were expecting, but you were technically late, so you didn’t think much of it. You hurried to get ready, humming along to your walkman as you unfurled the curlers from your hair, swiping blush onto your cheeks. You wanted to look your best because it made you feel your best and you refused to not have the best day.
You skipped downstairs, slinging your bag onto your shoulder. Your mother and brother were already at the door, about to head out. She looked you over with a sigh “You’re late, Y/N.”
You shrugged “Sorry, just give me two seconds and we’ll go.” You didn’t have your own car, purely because yours had crapped out a year after you bought it and you couldn’t afford the cost of fixing it. It sat on cinder blocks in your cousin Artie’s car lot, waiting for you to be able to cover the costs of having a specialist fix it. You didn’t necessarily adore being driven around by your mother, but there wasn’t much you could do about it at the moment, and it wasn’t as if she was going out of her way-she dropped off your little brother every day at Hawkins Middle, which were only steps away from Hawkins High.
Your mother sighed violently “No, you’ve already made us late enough. You can walk to school.” She snapped, pushing your brother out the door and into the dreary day, slamming the door behind her.
She didn’t wish you a happy birthday. It stung a little.
But she was mad, you rationalized, she probably just forgot in the heat of the moment, she’d remember later and apologize. For now, you just had to get your act in gear and get to school. You didn’t exactly mind being late today, you considered it a small treat for the week, so you took your time that morning.
But that was a mistake. The second you exited your street the rain came down in buckets. It was as if the heavens opened up to sing a harmonious and angelic ‘fuuuuuck yoooooou’ right onto your head. You didn’t have the time to run back home to get an umbrella or a raincoat, and the walk back wouldn’t be any dryer than the walk to school, even with the coat, so you suffered through every splash from passing cars and sink of your shoes into the mud. By the time you made it to school, you were shivering, your favourite thigh high tights absolutely soaked through and your hair dripping wet.
You practically rushed to your locker, your fingers fumbling over the lock until it clicked and you were able to pull the door open. You knew that you had a brush and a hair band in there, as well as your painter’s jeans from first semester art class, which were your saving graces of the day. You changed fast in the bathroom, just as the bell rang out, signalling the end of homeroom. You smiled to yourself, sure you missed homeroom, but Mr. Dixon’s math class was a bitch and he would’ve given you detention on the spot if you walked in late. Getting an absence on your report card wouldn’t be too terrible, you could explain it away. Missing Mr. Dixon’s class was a blessing.
And luckily, Carol and Tina were coming your way. Things were looking up.
You opened your locker again, grabbing your history textbook from inside before checking your makeup. The rain hadn’t washed everything away, although it had made a mess of your mascara. You used your pinkies to wipe away the goop pooling under your bottom lashes, smiling as it wiped away mostly clean. You wiped your hands on your jeans; it wasn’t as if they had to look nice anyway.
From the magnetic mirror stuck to your locker door, you saw Carol and Tina come up behind you. You turned fast, unable to hide your obvious excitement. But they didn’t look too happy to see you, in fact they both looked downright annoyed.
“Where were you this morning?” Carol snapped angrily, crossing her arms over her chest. She was wearing that lilac turtleneck again with the plum coloured suspenders. She looked like someone’s uncle grew boobs, which you wouldn’t usually go for, but she seemed to like.
“And what are you wearing?” Tina added, looking you over sceptically, her nose for fashion clearly offended by your jeans.
Your hands came to the ends of your wet hair, squeezing them uncomfortably “I woke up late, had to walk.” You explained “I got stuck in the rain and my tights were soaked, I would’ve caught my death if I kept them on and this is all I had to change into.”
Carol rolled her eyes and Tina scoffed loudly “You need to get your car fixed like asap.” She muttered, leaning against the lockers behind her. Tommy came up next to Carol and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pressing a kiss to the space between her jaw line and the edge of the sweater’s neckline. Behind him, Billy Hargrove stood, arms crossed over his chest, a toothpick clenched between his teeth, looking around the halls with a bored look.
This was a rare appearance.
Billy Hargrove ran in your circle, barely. He associated with them when he needed to or deigned to, so it seemed. He was trying so very hard to seem above everyone in your grade. And maybe, to some of your classmates, it was working; Carol and Tommy thought he was endlessly cool, Tina thought he was the sexiest man in the world. But you didn’t buy it. What you saw when he stood there was a guy staring off into space, trying to look cool, not allowing himself to be vulnerable in the slightest, surrounded by people who would think anything he said was super cool.
“So, what’re your plans for tonight?” you asked the group, trying not to appear too needy or desperate. You had to have a clue as to what they were doing for your birthday, so you could plan.
“It’s a Tuesday, Y/N...I’m gonna study for Dixon’s hell test on Friday.” Carol snapped, looking over her long red nails with utter disdain “Which you would’ve known about if you’d decided to grace up with your presence this morning.”
You stifled a sigh “I told you, I was late-” you tried, but the group had already moved on.
“I can totally help you study, babe,” Tommy said, nuzzling into Carol’s neck “But only if your parents aren’t home.”
Billy rolled his eyes at that comment and you couldn’t help but smirk. Your sentiments exactly. Tina was looking him over with utter lust in her eyes; it was a little embarrassing to watch. Of course, you’d been in her shoes before, although not over Hargrove. To be completely honest, you didn’t get the appeal. Sure, he was very pretty, but his laissez-faire attitude about everything was a bit of a turn off. You needed to know that there was more to him than that and, so far, nothing. He was exactly how he seemed, a very shallow pond with nothing growing at the bottom.
Carol smacked Tommy hard in the ribs “I can handle it myself...” she bit out through gritted teeth. Tommy held up his hands in defeat, backing up slowly.
He looked over to Billy with a smirk, leaning over to him “Fucking chicks, eh?” he joked with a crass chuckle. Carol’s eyes flared angrily, fire flashing behind her dull green eyes. Tina immediately reached out and touched her shoulder, shaking her head with an understanding look. Billy pulled a small smirk, nodding approvingly to Tommy. You had no proof of the meaning behind that look, but you guessed that Tommy had gotten all the affirmation he needed from Billy. He was right to think that women were utterly impossible. On the opposite side, Tina seemed to be telling Carol to ignore him, that he wasn’t worth it.
The bell rang above you, signally the start of your next classes. Tina’s pupils blew out and she let go of Carol, pushing into the still crowded halls “C’mon, Y/N, Crazy Krupke’s pop quiz!” she burst into a sprint down the halls. You stepped away from your locker, offering a feeble wave to the group, all of whom had free period that hour. They weren’t paying attention, but it wasn’t a big deal.
They hadn’t wished you a happy birthday. That stung a bit.
But maybe they were trying to make you think that they forgot so you’d be surprised for your party tonight. That would be smart. Maybe smarter than they were capable of, but you liked to give them the benefit of the doubt. You kept a positive outlook on the situation.
But that was hard to keep. The group abandoned you for lunch, each off in their own direction to bother different people. Tommy dragged Carol along to try to convince Steve Harrington of all people to throw a party for the upcoming break. Tina ran off with Macy to go to a prom committee meeting. And Billy Hargrove, well, you weren’t too focused on where he went. You ate lunch alone in the library, hiding in the shelves to not get caught eating in there, since that was against the rules. But that wasn’t too terrible, you’d done that before, and it was nice to get some of your work done.
But the rest of the day wasn’t any better. The group seemed to be avoiding you all day. They wouldn’t each lunch with you, they wouldn’t talk during class breaks, and Tina sped off after school before even offering you a ride, like she usually did. But all of this fell perfectly into the elaborate plan you’d imagined them making. They couldn’t just be assholes. They weren’t assholes most of the time. You wouldn’t have started hanging out with them if they were.
You got caught in the rain again on your walk to work, which while wasn’t intensely far, was just far enough away to cause you to get absolutely soaked through again. You worked at the local library, which you considered to be a blessing since the place was quiet and most people didn’t bother you. Luckily for you, they even had some leftover fundraiser shirts, which one was easily given to you to wear home. And while you weren’t happy to be working on your birthday, it was nice to just be surrounded by sweet old ladies and quiet, fat babies. It was nice. And your manager, Roberta, cut your shift early, a rare blessing from her. She even lent you an umbrella to walk home with, which you were insanely grateful for, since the rain didn’t seem to stop for you.
The day was really starting to bog you down. You were cold and tired and damp, so very damp. You were going to wake up with a cold in the morning, you just knew it. But it would all be worth it when you walked into your surprise party. You spent your walk home practising your surprised faces, the excitement in the pit of your stomach building as the sun set behind you during your walk, the streetlights slowly turning on during your walk. Turning onto your street, you took a deep breath, looking around the area. You didn’t see Tina or Tommy’s cars parked on the road, but that would be good planning. You made your way up the street, trying not to run or skip, to give them the time to finish any last minute set up.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you made your way up your driveway, every step faster than the last till you were running up to your front steps, skipping up them till you were at your front door. The warm light from your dining room was pooling out of the window through the shut blinds. The whole house seemed lit up and comforting, as if the house was full again, instead of it just being you and your parents. Your hands fumbled for your keys and you stabbed them into the lock, your hands shaking as you turned the key, pulling open the door and letting the sound of loved ones wishing you a happy birthday.
Except, none came.
You crept slowly into your house, peering around corners to find exactly none of your friends. Your parents were in the dining room, unaware that you’d even arrived, your little brother picking at his food.
Nobody had shown up. Nobody had done anything for you. All your friends were somewhere else, having fun without you. A wave of disappointment washed over you, soaking into your skin and making you sick to your stomach, like heat stroke. Your body felt sticky with sweat, your stomach filled with shame. Why on earth would you think that they would do anything for you? God, you’d gone to them for comfort after your little friend group fell apart. Sure, you, Samantha Baker, Tammy Thompson, and Robin Buckley didn’t have much in common by the end, but losing Barb was just the icing on a crumbling cake. And Carol and Tina, they were there for you, they invited you into their shitty, bitchy little circle with open arms and false smiles. And you trusted them. But they didn’t care about you, they didn’t put in the same work towards your friendship that you did. And that was the thing that broke your heart, that your friends just didn’t care that much.
“Y/N, you’re late come and eat.” Your mother snapped, gesturing to your open chair, food already piled onto your plate. You bit back a sigh, trudging into the dining room and plopping down in your chair.
As if today could guess any worse. Beef Stroganoff. You fucking hated beef stroganoff; it was like someone ate beef and liquid diarreahed it onto some egg noodles. It was salty and terrible. Your mother always made it when she was bored of cooking. Usually, you’d offer to take over for the night to give her a break. You make pizza or spaghetti and meatballs and your mother would take a nap. It was a win-win. But working on a weekday proved to be your failure.
You pushed the food around your plate, waiting for something-someone to ask about your day, to crack a joke, god to fucking wish you happy birthday. But nothing. Everyone just ate in silence. It was crushing.
Your mother broke the silence with an aggravated sigh “Y/N, can you please just eat? You’re setting a bad example for your brother.”
“I’m really not in the mood for beef stroganoff...” you replied, letting out a sharp breath through your nose.
Your mother clicked her tongue angrily “I have had a very bad day, Y/N, can you please not make it worse?” she asked, obviously annoyed.
That was it. That was your breaking point. You dropped your fork on the table, looking up to finally meet her eye. “Oh, you’ve had a bad day?” you asked, your lips curling into a sneer “You?”
“Don’t take that tone with your mother.” Your father said boredly, not bothering to even acknowledge the scene.
That didn’t stop you, you were too mad. “It’s my fucking birthday.” Recognition filled your mother’s eyes as her mouth opened slightly.
You pressed on “It’s my god damn eighteenth birthday and nobody remembered. You forgot, he forgot, dork breath over here forgot. Everybody fucking forgot. My friends forgot. And the universe decided to shit on me too, I got rained on all day-I’m freezing still from the walk TO school. My friends ignored me, you ignored me, everyone at work ignored me and all I wanted to do when I came home was hear ‘happy birthday, Y/N’ it’s all I fucking wanted. So, no, I don’t wanna eat beef stroganoff and hear about your bad day, because it cannot top mine.”
“Y/N, apologize to your mother.” Your father snapped. Your mother was still in shock, but your father seemed to have caught on to the situation and was fuming. You didn’t care. You knew no matter what happened, you were going to get your ass beat later, but for now you had an ounce of power.
You pushed yourself out of the chair, standing up and stalking to the doorway “Fuck this shit.” You snapped back, shoving your shoes into your feet and marching outside, slamming the door behind you.
You didn’t exactly know where you were going, but out was better than in the house, so you started the walk down to the Hawkins woods. Maybe you’d get eaten by a wolf or kidnapped like that Byers kid. That would really be perfect. Then you could disappear and they’d regret it.
You hiked up to the quarry in peaceful silence. The rain had finally stopped and everything smelt like wet grass and pine wood. It had gotten significantly darker, but you weren’t afraid of it, you welcomed the danger those woods could offer. Sitting by that little pool of murky, gross water, you felt calm again. Everything was still fucked up, but sitting alone made it easier. You let the tears brimming in your eyes finally spill out, small sobs breaking through your throat.
You didn’t sense the headlights coming up behind you till you heard the car stop. You jumped to your feet, still crying, as you threw up your dukes. You couldn’t imagine how insane you looked, face streaked with mascara, red and blotchy from crying, ready to fight. The driver’s side door creaked open and you heard the sound of the driver’s shoes before you saw them. Lit from the front, the annoyed and bewildered Billy Hargrove flicked a cigarette at your feet.
“What cha doing out here, Y/N?” he asked in an almost sing-song tone. You dropped your fists, groaning loudly towards the sky.
“Just trying to enjoy some alone time here.” You sighed. Billy sauntered up to you, looking you up and down with a sly expression.
“You’ve been crying.” He hummed.
“What’s it to ya?” you shot back. Billy wrapped an arm around your shoulders, which was unexpected but you didn’t exactly pull away, if only because he was so warm and you still were freezing. He led you over to his car and gestured for you to sit down on the hood. You did so and Billy followed.
“Alright, what happened?” he asked, looking over the quarry.
You furrowed your brow “Since when do you care?”
Billy shrugged “I’m bored. You gonna tell me or what?”
You sighed, closing your eyes slightly “Everyone forgot my birthday.”
Billy nodded “Yeah, I could tell you were waiting for them to say something this morning, couldn’t figure out what but that-that makes sense.” You took in a hard, shaky breath, wrapping your arms around your stomach to anchor yourself. “Your parents too?” you nodded. Billy chuckled darkly, shaking his head with this look of silent understanding that you found both distressing and oddly comforting. “But I mean why didn’t you mention it to them?”
“What? And look like a desperate loser?” you scoffed, rolling your eyes and begging for tears not to fall from them.
“So, instead, you sat around and got upset?” Billy asked. You felt his eyes burning into the side of your face, but you refused to look at him.
“Look, I never said it was logical.” You huffed dramatically. Billy chuckled; pulling his pack out of his pocket, sliding a cigarette between his teeth and flicking open his lighter.
Billy chuckled before hopping off the hood. Without a word, he slid off the hood and sauntered over to his still ajar door. You kept your eyes on the water in the quarry and silently prayed that Billy didn’t try to drive off with you still on the hood. He came back though, to your relief, and took his seat next to you.
He handed you a sealed plastic bag, which you took sceptically. You examined it in dim light from below you. Sour gummy worms. You turned to Billy with a curious look “Secret sweet tooth?” you asked, pulling open the thick plastic and taking a worm out carefully, dropping it into your mouth.
Billy scoffed “Max left them in my car.” His voice cracked on the end. You weren’t certain, but you had a hunch that he was lying. You shrugged it off though, offering the bag to him. He grabbed about three from the bag, shoving them all into his mouth and proving your theory on the sugar thing.
“Well, thanks,” you sighed softly, dropping your head into your hands “Guess this is all I’m getting for my birthday...”
“Don’t give up hope on ‘em.” Billy grumbled, digging his fist into the bag once again, pulling out more of the candy and shoving it into his gaping maw. He’d given up on the cigarette, tossing it into the mud to burn out in the damp sand.
You sighed bitterly “But its so easy to...I mean if I just say that they suck then I don’t have to have any expectations for them again.”
Billy shrugged “Having less expectations is good, makes for more surprises.”
You chuckled “Oh yeah? Like what?” it was a leading question and you knew it, but you wanted to see what Billy was going to pull out of his ass to impress you. You weren’t surprised when he grabbed your chin and pressed his lips to yours. What was surprising was that it wasn’t the aggressive, attention grabbing, tongue filled kiss he’d usually pull with other girls. He was soft and careful; he held your face like it was something precious and his lips brushed your delicately. It was nice, his lips tasted like sour sugar from the candies with a hint of Vaseline, which you assumed was some sort of ChapStick. You weren’t surprised that Billy took care of his appearance, although it was a bit of a treat to kiss a boy whose lips weren’t sandpaper against yours.
You pulled away first with a smirk, which Billy didn’t share. He looked...surprised? Confused maybe, the look was one of sheer confliction. You didn’t question it. And when he offered to drive you home, you let him, sitting in the cigarette perfumed interior and letting him blast Slayer into your ears until you were sure that they’d bleed. He dropped you off without a word, leaving you feeling about as confused as he looked. You headed inside to face the worst of the wrath from your parents with your head held high.
To your surprise, they weren’t waiting for you. You’d been given the blessing to creep upstairs and go to bed. But before you could turn off your light and try your best to fall asleep, the door cracked open, your mother on the other end. Wordlessly, she stepped in, taking a seat on the end of your bed.
“Your father isn’t too pleased with you.” She said softly. Your little brother’s room was next to yours, connected by a wall. You sat up a bit in bed, not pretending to feel guilty for your actions. You opened your mother to defend yourself, but your mother cut in again “I don’t need you to say anything, I understand.”
That was not what you expected. Maybe the whole have fewer expectations thing really could work. She continued “I’m sorry we forgot sweetie, I really am. I know this one was a big milestone birthday and I feel awful that we didn’t remember. I know you know things have been really hectic around here, with your father starting a new job, and I want you to know that we’re very appreciative of what you do to help. And to show that, we’re just gonna pay to get your car fixed, okay?”
Your whole face lit up. Car payments weren’t even on the table for gifts, you were certain it was too expensive. “Really?” you asked softly, unsure if your mother was joking or not.
She grinned “Really. No more walking in the rain.” You burst out of bed, wrapping her in a giant hug. Your mother laughed, returning it with equal fervour. It was nice, a small bit of bonding with your mother, something that rarely happened anymore. You went to sleep peacefully that night.
You weren’t expecting anything when you went into school the next day. It was a Friday; everyone was focused on getting through the day to make it to the weekend. You were no exception. You were finally getting your car back; your father had gone to pay for the tow truck and the mechanic’s shop to fix the damn thing that morning. Anything else was tertiary.
But, to your shock, a large group of kids were standing around your locker. It wasn’t anywhere near the size of your graduating class, but it was at least fifteen kids. Carol, Tina, and Macy stood in the front. Tina had a cupcake in her hands as Macy struggled to get a lighter to work to light the big pink candle in the centre of the thick, green icing. You spotted Tommy, grumbling in the back, arms crossed tightly over his argyle sweater. He had a huge black eye that spread over his right cheekbone and eyebrow. Samantha was in the back as well, with a smirk pulled on her black lips. Tammy Thompson and Robin Buckley were tittering between themselves behind Carol, who angrily shushed them.
You walked up to the group tentatively. All at once, the group screamed “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!” the group started into the birthday song, everyone off key and cringing as they realized just how long the song really was. Macy lit the candle and Tina held out the sickly sweet looking treat to you. You took it awkwardly, blowing out the candle and holding it up with a nod. The group dispersed almost immediately.
“My birthday was yesterday…” you said to the remaining group. Carol and Tina looked between one another awkwardly. They seemed shocked by the information.
“We know!” Macy blurted. Carol and Tina snapped their heads around to look at her, nodding for her to go on with an excited, desperate expression. “We wanted to surprise you and this seemed like the best way to do it!”
Tina nodded fast “Exactly! We wouldn’t forget.”
You smirked, nodding slowly as you looked around the hallway. When you spotted Billy hiding behind the wall of lockers, trying to look casual, you smiled. Without a word, you left the group in the dust, marching over to Billy. He met your eye as you stepped up to him. You held out the cupcake “You want this?” you asked.
Billy raised an eyebrow quizzically “It’s your weird birthday thing.” He replied, trying to sound bored.
You shrugged “I don’t want it.” Billy paused before taking it, practically ripping the wrapper off.
You chuckled “How on earth do you keep your arms while devouring that sugary shit?” you asked as he took a monstrous bite, bright green icing sticking to the tip of his nose.
“I work out.” His mouth was far too full for his words to be understood. You cringed at the sight of mushed food in his mouth. Billy closed his mouth fast, swallowing hard. “Sorry…” he mumbled.
“You didn’t have to do that, you know.” You replied.
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean that…scene. You didn’t have to do that.” You scuffed your shoes on the dirty linoleum. In truth, the scene was slightly embarrassing. A half assed surprise with a cheap grocery store cupcake and awkward singing. It had made you want to run away, but of course it was obviously for you, so you’d had to stay.
Billy shrugged “You were upset, didn’t bother me to beat up Tommy about it.”
“Since when do you care?” you asked genuinely. Billy barely paid attention to anything, much less you. You didn’t think that he even liked you till last night.
“Why wouldn’t I? You’re the only decent person in that group.” Billy replied simply, pushing himself off the lockers.
“Thanks?” you asked, cocking an eyebrow at him.
Billy chuckled “You’re welcome.” The warning bell for first period rang out from above you. “Come on, I’ll walk you to class.” Billy never offered to walk anyone anywhere. You took the walk without question. You were trying not to have any expectations anymore, why have any about Billy? You just decided to enjoy the company and silence and try to not obvious want more.

So I’ve got a note in my notes app called “Fanfic lines that should be in a hall of fame” and it’s gotten pretty long so I figure I’ll toss it on here so yall can enjoy it, most of them are: mha, zukka, miraculous ladybug, harry potter, and I think one is from a comment on a hannibal amv, But here you go:
Stain sold papers because he just had an aura about him that drew people in, like people who slow down to look at car crashes.
“The Rumor Come Out: Does Todoroki Shoto is Gay?”
Izuku spent the next week going to his normal martial arts classes, studying, and drinking gallons of coffee. Not healthy but he could deal with it. His body was never meant to be permanent.
So no one was watching when Mei placed her forehead against his, breath fanning across his face as she spoke. "Wake up Loki… the world needs you."
“No probs ‘lil listener!” Hizashi said, striking a dramatic pose. “I’ll be your DJ all through the night, bringin’ you such rockin’ hits as safety, security and sweet dreams!”
“This is stupid! Screw the waiting and screw these stupid butterflies. They're not paying rent, the little shits--”
Experimenting with unstable genetic mutant abominations is more of an art than a science, really."
Several looks pass across both their faces. “No flying for a month,” Sirius declares. That sucks, actually. But he’s also a hundred percent certain he can get them to cave on that in two weeks tops. “Okay. Is that for the breaking into the Ministry, destroying the Department of Mysteries, making a bargain with Voldemort, or bringing all my friends with me?” “It’s for recklessly endangering your own life again,” Remus says, “and while the punishment very much doesn’t fit the crime, we’re a bit at a loss for what else to do.” “It wasn’t reckless!” he protests. “We had a plan and everything, and we even brought an adult! An adult Order member! Also what else were we supposed to do, let Snape die?” Sirius takes a deep breath, but Remus steps on his foot before he can put it in his mouth. “Which is why you’re only getting flying privileges taken away and not thrown in a cell in Azkaban for our sanity and your safety.” As if any cell could hold him. “I accept your terms.”
“Who’s Theophania?” Sirius asks. Harry hesitates. Perhaps bringing her up was his smartest decision, strategically speaking. “If I tell you you’re not allowed to throw me in Azkaban. Or ground me.” “This isn’t a negotiation,” Sirius repeats. If Blaise has taught him anything, it’s that everything is a negotiation. “She’s a friend.” “And?” Sirius repeats. Remus suddenly grabs onto Sirius’s shoulder, “Wait. Petrifying - during your second year - is Theophania - she’s not the basilisk.” “No, they killed it,” Sirius says automatically. Harry remains silent. “Harry!” He rubs his nose. “It turns out I’m not that good at killing things. Unkilling things, however? My specialty.”
“It’s okay,” Nanaia says, “you don’t know. What do you do when you don’t know something?” “Try something you do know and hope it doesn’t make everything worse?” For some reason, Horace looks sad at that answer, and Dumbledore shifts from one foot to the other. “No,” she says, “you ask for help.” Oh.
“It’ll piss off your son,” he answers bluntly. “Fuck that kid,” Riddle Sr. says
“You played me!” “Like a cheap kazoo”
Batman sighed, before speaking in a voice that was so unlike his usual growl that most of the other League members almost fell out of their chairs. Diana and Clark seemed to be used to it. “Damian,” he started. His voice was still deep, but a regular-deep, instead of I-just-swallowed-six-buckets-of-gravel deep.
“She loved James too,” she assures, and the confidence she says that with allows him to breathe, like someone has let go of his lungs. “It is possible to love more than one person at the same time. She loved your father with the type of love that’s – that was like a shooting star, burning and bright and touching everyone around them. Her love for Severus was different, and in the end it wasn’t the type of love either of them could handle.”
You’re better at it now then many people are after leaving a full apprenticeship, and you’ve only had a year of lessons a couple of times a week instead of years of intensive study. Do you know why that is?” “Luck?” he offers weakly. For some reason, he doesn’t like the direction this is going in. “No,” she says. “To be good at healing, the way you are, the way I am, you need a certain combination of things. Intelligence, power, control, but more than that. Stubbornness, a tricky balance of flexibility and inflexibility, and a constant, brutal assessment over your own skills. And something else.” “A propensity towards poor life choices?” he suggests. Poppy shakes her head, not taking the bait. “No. You have to care. You have to care about everyone, even people you dislike, and you have to care so much that if feels like it’s killing you, you have to care and that care has to hurt, until the only thing that hurts worse than caring is not caring. To be good at this, you have to let it hurt you.”
“You two shouldn’t have bothered dressing formally for Albus, he’s a bitch.” Harry doesn’t have any idea what’s going on, but he’s loving it.
“It was on the syllabus,” Zuko whispered conspiratorially to his mother. Sokka gasped. “You know I don’t read those!” “This is your own fault then.” “I like to be surprised. The procrastination keeps me humble.”
sometimes you remind me of the stars youre gorgeous and happy and can always brighten me on the darkest days and even when youre dampened you can guide me home
“imagine you are the only person who loves to play chess more than anything but nobody else in the world has ever heard about chess. and then you see a person holding a chessboard. it’s like your whole world was reborn”
"I wanted to be a stripper in middle school," Izuku said. Yup, that's a good cover.
What you’re asking for isn’t fair or right. You can’t ask a person for more than they’re willing to give
In Mei’s words, “You have about five minutes of ‘fuck that one thing in particular.’ Make them count.”
“Mei, let me introduce your new best friend. This is Momo. She has a Quirk that lets her make anything as long as she knows its composition inside and out. All you have to do is buy her dinner,“ Izuku said,
The cameras were looped. The bots were hacked. It was a good day to be a villain.
“None. The alarm never left the building.” “Really? Why is that?” “Mei finished first and decided to do you a favor. However, you've got the fire alarm just starting to go off and that's on a different circuit. Take a fast way down.” “Understood,” Hitoshi drawled. A moment later he was looking back at the crew. “Ladies and Frenchman. We take the express.”
Quinn is talking like that actually answers his question when it really, really doesn’t. “If you don’t start making sense, I’ll cry.”
“You’re one of my best students,” ze says. “You should understand the importance of timing. Speaking of, you’re late for your next class.”
Fuck, he totally is. “Thank you for that very confusing answer. I’ll think of you while crying myself to sleep.”
He’d wondered if that was what bravery was, to be quiet even when you were hurting so much you wanted to scream.
maybe bravery was also running screaming at the thing that nearly killed you, to keep it from killing someone else.
“Apologies are not difficult. Good apologies revolve around three basic points. One, I acknowledge what I did was wrong. Two, I regret that you were harmed. Three, this is how I plan to make sure it does not happen again. That’s all. Apologies are easy.” Then she’d glanced at them all again, evaluating. “And if you become very, very good at your job... they will be the absolute hardest thing you ever do.”
“Even though we’re a bunch of migraine-inducing hellions who are smart enough to know when something is a bad idea and stupid enough to still do it?”
“You’re like the nice china that Al only brings out for Christmas. Except Bruce just realised that I stole it, and chipped it. Maybe it’s time I give it back before I shatter all the pieces.”
she won’t co-parent my perfectly reasonable and well-behaved children.” Clark snorts. “Damian’s trying to stab Tim, right now.”
"Oh, my knight in shining armour. What would I do without you?" the teen droned, placing a dramatic hand on her head.
"I think you mean 'knight in shining leather', M'Lady. And without me, you would be left alone in this kingdom of lies.”
"It's a kingdom, alright. It'll topple sooner or later." "That's the spirit!" Adrien laughed.
Here’s something that a harbinger of tragedy would never find the courage to admit: there are moments in between the bitter self-hatred and the visceral, tangible consequences of your sins in which you almost think you’re worthy of forgiveness; of second chances; of a life beyond your greatest regrets. It’s a unique brand of pain,
“Go directly to horny jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.”
“You can’t wait around for him to be sorry,” Izuku says. He’s quiet now. This isn’t something that’s meant to be shouted. “Maybe he’ll never be sorry. Maybe he doesn’t know he did anything wrong, or he doesn’t care. It doesn’t matter.” Cautiously he takes a step forward. “You can’t depend on the people who hurt you to be the ones to make it better, or it’s never going to get better. They’ll only disappoint you, or hurt you even worse, and then they’ll be gone and you’ll be waiting forever.”
Midoriya may be strong as hell, but that just means looking out for him has to be a team effort.
How would his new adoring fans react if they knew he raised a villain? He's no All-Might. His pillar's made of toothpicks, and it's not gonna take much to crack it.”
Tensei approaches Rei, “Okay, this plan is childish, unprofessional, and a discourtesy to this school's reputation. That being said, when do we nail the little twat?
Hinata is dead. Deceased. Passed away, laid to rest with a headstone that reads Here Lies Hinata Shouyou, Killed By A Wink And A Blown Kiss.

What kind of glue do I use when covering bottles with thread? I've tried wood adhesive, however it's not offering me what I want.

Do you have any tutorials on cutout art, or a list of items you use for art?
okay, hey hi sorry this is such a late reply. ive never made a tutorial in my entire life but im gonna show you how to make a cutout of this hot mike wazowski i drew. at the very least mike, i gave up with the flowers.
okay so first things first, gather all your matierals; an x-acto knife, scissors, a glue stick, a pencil, markers/colored pencils/paint/whatever coloring medium is comf for you, and a cutting mat. as for the actual paper, i stock up on any type i can get my hands on. joanns (my main supplier) usually has a bunch of really nice paper packs, so should any craft store near you. on the other hand, ive stolen half a box of scrap/swatch paper from my caligraphy class and at least two walls of paint swatches from home depot and walmart (i dont reccommend these ones because the color will chip pretty easily. pro tip, works in a pinch for the right color you want, just cut it from the back side of the paper, the color side face down.)
now, print a black and white copy out,
or if you’re lazy/dont have a printer, lightly trace the image off your computer screen. gently. then, gather up the papers you want to use, and make sure to really consider which colors should go where.
my desk is small and messy im sorry. anyway. take out that pencil and find a light source. someday id like to own one of those neato tracing tables with the back lighting. but im a broke 20 year old who makes do with what they have.
i use a picture frame with my phone turned on under it.
i have it taped like that because every time i had it the other way, the pegs would always colapse under the weight of my meaty fingers. if you dont have a frame on hand, you can use a nearby window or a lamp,
(i cant show you my usual setup, otherwise i wouldnt be able to take the pics so this lamp setup will have to do)
next, you’re gonna trace the parts of the drawing that pertain to the color paper you’re tracing on. its okay if lines and shapes change a little bit, you can only control so much.
once you have them all traced, you can start carefully cutting them out with your xacto knife. you can either put the pieces in a bowl, or on your computer keyboard like i do, because i could honestly care less if some of my small pieces get lost inside the keys. that was a joke, i actually really hate that. but i am a simple minded woman who simply doesnt learn.
next, take out your glue stick and something to apply the glue to the pieces. i use a sculpting pick, and in the past ive used my xacto (dont reccommend). you could also use a toothpick
you can start inking certain lines you want to stand out, i used a brown micron pen
glue that shit on there. it also helps to put them together on top of the image so they align correctly. again, dont worry if it doesnt line up with the original
a monster in the making
if you want some extra depth, you can glue a thing of cardboard in between your parts
leg depthhhhhhhhhh
i didnt have any shiny paper for the nails, which i wanted, so i improvised with what i had. we’re on a budget here, people. cut them shits out and slap em on the fingies
horrifying.
okay, for the roses, i honestly just gave up, sorry. however, i wanted to still do the body roses, so i made some wavy cuts like this
rolled them, glued the end, and squished them a bit between my fingers.
here we have, more or less the final product. i started a bit early, but you can add details like shadows and highlights with your colored pencils/markers.
they’re in love.
thats it for this dumpster fire of a tutorial. i hope it wasnt too useless. if you have any other questions please feel free to drop back into my inbox.

My Own Model - AUgust Day 28
Title: My Own Model
Author: Purple_ducky00
Rating: General
Warnings: Dislike of one’s body, sexism
Pair: Rhodey/carol, background Tony/Jan
Link: Read on AO3
Summary: Rhodey visits Tony at one of Jan's fashion shows... and meets the love of his life.
++++++++++
Rhodey doesn’t know why his best friend likes to model. Long, grueling hours, bright lights, uncomfortable clothing, and worst of all – the fame that comes with it, he can’t understand how the job is enjoyable. But Tony loves it.
Tony’s a genius, but he never liked making weapons. He tried to steer his father on the path to clean energy. When Howard had refused and threatened to disinherit Tony if he kept it up, Tony told him goodbye and left to make his own mark in the world. Which, Rhodey supposes, is modelling.
Dating Janet van Dyne, the owner of Van Dyne Style and Tony’s childhood friend, Tony fights his way to the top modelling for everyone but Van Dyne. Now that he’s famous, Tony models almost exclusively for Jan’s company.
Reporters often ask Jan if Tony is ok with her having a larger income than him. Jan usually finds a witty way to brush off the comment, but when Tony gets asked, he shuts the reporters down. “Why would I care?” He would ask. The reporter would then either backtrack, realizing the sexism in their question, or they would explain how the “man” should make more than the “woman.” “In my opinion, the woman should make more money than the man, if we are going by society’s standards.” Tony once told a reporter. “By society, the woman needs this make up and that hair product. She needs to find the size that fits her perfectly. Every woman needs millions of pairs of shoes. Skincare products are a must. Perfectly manicured nails. And whatever else bullshit men need to think up to try to get a one-up on women. To be this perfect woman in society, you need to spend a lot of money. Which is why I think that society’s perfect woman is complete horseshit. You should be comfortable with whatever you like, not whatever some old, ugly guy on the internet thinks. Back to the point. When a man and woman have kids, who takes the children clothes shopping? The woman. Who goes food shopping? The woman. Why should she be dependent on her husband to give her money? Why shouldn’t she be able to use her own? Also, what do men need to spend money on? Nothing. So why should they get paid more?” The reporter had no answer.
Now, Rhodey is walking into the backstage access part of Jan’s fashion show. He shows his card to security, and they let him go through. He knows the drill. Find Jan. Tony’s never far behind her. Rhodey finds Jan at a makeup table talking to Holy Wowza! one of the most beautiful women he has ever seen. A broad, tall, blonde woman with high cheekbones and defined muscles, the model looks like she dropped down from Asgard. I am looking respectfully. He thinks to himself. He just is caught up in her beauty.
“Oh hey Rhodey!” Jan smiles brightly. “Meet Carol Danvers, my newest recruit. She’s ex Air Force, like you. Carol here joined with me because Tony enlisted her last time he went to a dinner at Howard’s. Carol, this is Tony’s best friend, James Rhodes.”
“Hi,” Carol holds out a hand. It’s a beautiful hand.
Rhodey jerks, realizing he was staring. “Oh, uh, hi! Nice to meet you.” He jumbles his words together as he takes her hand, flushing when she gives him a weird stare. She must think I’m an idiot.
“Rhodey! You’re here!” Tony hugs him from behind.
Jan sighs. “You’re going to wrinkle the shirt for the fourth time, Tones.”
Tony gives her a peck on the cheek. “Don’t worry. Not a wrinkle in sight. Rhodey, I see you’ve met Carol? She’s my own personal protégé. I love her already. What about you?” There’s a knowing look in his eyes that makes Rhodey want to disappear.
“I wouldn’t want to speak about her while she’s around, so I’m going to speak to her. You are very beautiful, Carol. I think you’ll do great in this industry.”
Carol blushes. “Thank you. I take it you’re not a model?”
“Oh, thank goodness, no. I’m a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force.”
“Colonel Rhodes! No wonder the name sounded familiar. I am honored to meet you!” Rhodey is blown away by the brilliance of her smile.
He bats at the air. “Pshaw. I’m no one.”
Jan looks at her watch. “Oh no! The show is starting in less than five. Rhodey, go get your seat! Everyone else, in formation!”
This is the first fashion show he is excited about. He can’t wait to see what Carol is to be wearing. Is that creepy? That’s creepy, man. You gotta stop.
++++++
Carol grew up most of her life, feeling inadequate. Her mother always wanted her to be a debutante; Carol hated those huge dresses. Her father wanted her to join the Army; she joined the Air Force. Her mother moaned that Carol would never find a husband because of her mannish shoulders. She told Carol to stop building muscle for she would only look more masculine. “No man is going to want a woman who is stronger than him.” Her father, however, told her that she was never going to get anywhere in the military looking like a toothpick. In the end, it was up to her to decide her future.
All Carol wanted to do since she was little was fly. And fly she did – thousands of missions completed, both successfully and unsuccessfully. She was rising up the ranks until she shattered her wrist in a crash. The doctors rebuilt her wrist, but she no longer had to mobility to fly and fight in a plane. The Air Force honorably discharged her, and she was left with no purpose at all.
Carol met Tony at a dinner hosted by Howard Stark. Forced by her parents to go, she didn’t want to be there. One look at Tony showed the same for him. They sat in the corner of the room, chatting away until they got to the point of careers. Tony offered her a job at Van Dyne Styles, and Carol scoffed. “You want me to be a model? Me? Carol Manvers?”
“Sure. Why not?” Tony didn’t see any problems with it. Carol gave in and said she’d go in for a trial run. As it turned out, she didn’t mind the job. She quite liked it, actually.
Now, she’s dressed and ready for her first actual runway show. She is super nervous, wondering Will I fall on my face? Will everyone get up and leave? Will everyone think I’m ugly? Then Jan introduces her to Col. Rhodes. He’s staring at her like… she’s beautiful. He’s got to be acting. No matter, Rhodes gives her the confidence she needs to get out there.
After the show, Rhodey invites her to go get coffee. They hit it off immediately, bonding over the Air Force and the ball of stupidity which is Tony Stark. The two of them become quite close after that. She introduces him to her best friend Maria, who almost faints when she sees Lt. Col. James Rhodes on her doorstep. Rhodey wonders why he’s such a big deal. Maria retired from the Air Force when Carol did, and she now is an elementary school teacher. She always has some stories to tell.
Rhodey introduces her to his friend Natasha, and neither he nor Carol is surprised when the two women start dating.
As she does more shows, Carol’s fame grows as well as her confidence. She tells Rhodey one night how he helped her build her confidence. “I grew up my whole life thinking I was too big and too ugly to be found attractive to anyone.” She tells him. “Then you come in the one day, and you just look at me… and you can’t stop. And I thought, ‘if this insanely hot guy thinks I’m beautiful, then I must be at least some beautiful.’ I cared more about myself after that. I’ve been much happier, too. And it’s all thanks to you.”
Rhodey kisses her forehead. “Whoever told you these things was lying to you. You are stunning. Anyone with eyes could see that.”
He meets her parents a week later, and he understands. Major Danvers is happy that his daughter is dating a high-ranking officer. Mrs. Danvers is simply happy that she’s dating. Rhodey wants to shake them and show them their daughter’s true worth, but he has had experience with high society families. He keeps his mouth shut. When they get home, though, he whispers words of encouragement into her hair. He’s had to do the same for Tony many times.
Carol meet Roberta Rhodes a week later. She is accepted in the Rhodes family immediately. Overwhelmed by the large sense of family, Carol vows to always go to Rhodey’s on the holidays. It’s not like her parents will care anyways.
The couple decides to go public with their relationship two months before Rhodey proposes. The night he does, Carol just finished a show in Philadelphia. Rhodey takes her walking on Kelly Drive. When they get to the Art Museum, he stops in front of the fountain, gets on one knee, and ask her to marry him. Of course, she says yes.
Their wedding is a quiet, private wedding consisting only of their closest friends and family members. Carol wears a strapless dress, much to her mother’s horror. She likes her broad shoulders, and she knows her soon-to-be husband does as well. No one else’s opinion matters.
After the ceremony, the couple leaves on their romantic honeymoon to Hawaii. When they return, Carol carries Rhodey over the threshold. She knows they will be happily married until the end of their lives.

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. It’s a home salon. Welcome to Caroline’s Attach Parlor. I got my sponges, I got my attach colors, I got some absolutely beautiful attach colors. This is gonna be fun. The coffee has absolutely hit. Aboriginal I’m activity to try accepting ombré nails with a architecture sponge. Aah! There you go, got my dusk nails! The blot technique, you get the adhere of it, but do, like, a little bash and again a dab, dab, dab. Like, if it’s not absolute it’s OK. You can accomplish it perfect. I capital a sunsetty attach design, so I best white for my base, again ablaze blush and apricot to alloy together. That’s ugly. I’m accomplishing a abhorrent job. This attach brightness is not my favorite. I’m blaming it on the attach brightness and the attach and the camera setup. Merp. I’m aloof gonna do a distinct coat. I’m not gonna do a bifold covering because I aloof appetite it to dry fast and this is the base. The white isn’t alike gonna show. I corrective the two colors assimilate the sponge, again dabbed that on my nail. I had to add added of the ablaze blush to absolutely get an alike blend. And sometimes it was added acceptable afterwards the band to absolutely get the blush on the corners of my nails, alike admitting it was messier. So, I approved to get the colors on by one apple-pie swipe, and that seemed to assignment bigger than the borer technique. And again I went aback and attenuated the colors. Not bad for a first-time sponger. Not bad. This nondominant duke is kinda accomplishing abhorrent things to me. Yeah, my easily are starting to hurt. I can’t accept I did that one upside down. But, hey, it came out attractive the cutest. So, I begin a actual old architecture besom that I haven’t acclimated in a while and salvaged it into an acetone besom to apple-pie about the nails. 100+ Boredom-Busting Activities for Kids

100+ Boredom-Busting Activities for Kids
Table of Contents[Hide][Show]
If you have kids (or ever were one) you know that boredom can be a huge struggle. But it can also be a chance to get creative and find new things to do! When boredom hits in our house or when I have to occupy the kids while I work, I rely on some of the activities on this list.
I’ve tried to choose activities that will not only keep kids entertained, but also active and feeling purposeful. There’s plenty of ideas here that kids can do independently (an important value in our house).
To that end, most of the activities in this list require minimal parental involvement. I’ve noted the ones that call for a little more of a hands-on approach. We tend to save more involved or messy projects and games for family time when my husband and I can help out and be involved.
And if you have any tips for sanity-saving, low mess activities for kids of all ages, please share with other moms by commenting on this post!
Outdoor Activities for Kids
I always try to prioritize outdoor activities first, both for myself and the kids. There are plenty of proven health benefits to getting outside, such as:
Not to mention it keeps the mess from said activities out of the house!
Usually it isn’t hard to convince the kids to head outdoors (especially since we upgraded the backyard equipment), but when needed we simply require that they start their day outside.
Things Kids Can Do Outside
Many of these are fun for the whole family but can also be done independently by older kids. We also sometimes use our adventure points system to reward positive use of outdoor time:
Family/sibling Nerf wars
Water balloons – we use sponges, not balloons, to avoid choking hazards and plastic waste
Build a fairy garden
Build a gnome house (a small scale log cabin for example)
Stargaze (look for constellations)
Practice survival skills – Like fishing, starting a fire, building a shelter, etc. (needs more parental involvement)
Take nature walks/hikes
Challenge older kids to set up an outdoor scavenger hunt or obstacle course (Kids get especially motivated if Mom/Dad have to take the challenge they created after work is done!)
Create a sidewalk chalk masterpiece
Blow bubbles (make your own with this recipe)
Climb trees
Make a slip and slide
Build a raft (and see if it will float)
Fly a kite
Set up a nature station with some binoculars and guide books – our kids love this one
Have a campfire and cook a meal over it (requires adult supervision)
Hopscotch
Help in the garden
Create a mini-golf course
Nature photography (let the kids use a digital camera or old phone to take pictures)
Nature journaling (and sketching) – this self-guided activity book helps kids see their backyard through new eyes
Jump on trampoline
Hold a cartwheel contest (who can do the most)
Rollerblading or biking
Let toddlers make mud pies (and who are we kidding, older kids love this too)
Build a treehouse (may need adult supervision)
Build a rope swing (may need adult supervision)
Make rock formations
Make dams in the creek
Set up a travel hammock in the backyard for rest and reading
Jumprope
Play badminton or spikeball
Play Capture the Flag
Paint an outdoor mural (we let our kids do this on the side of a storage shed)
Show kids how to hammer nails into an old log or scrap wood (use safety glasses) – building a skill while entertaining them for hours!
Challenge kids to complete the Dangerous Book for Boys or the Daring Book for Girls – set up a reward when a chapter or the book is completed (review activities first as some parental discretion may be needed)
In my experience, once the kids get outside, they don’t want to come back in! Sometimes they just need a little encouragement to get out there and start exploring.
Indoor Activities for Kids (Rainy Day, etc.)
When the weather is bad outside, the house can sometimes feel like a prison! Here are some ideas for busting boredom at home (and giving Mom and Dad some personal space) when kids are stuck inside:
When I have work to do but we are stuck indoors due to weather, etc. The key to self-directed activity days is to set clear expectations. Explain when you are available or not available, which activities are available or off-limits, how household responsibilities are divided, when tech time may or may not happen, and how the house should look at the end of the day/by a certain time.
Go Outside Anyway!
In many cultures, they go outside in any weather! With the proper gear, most outdoor activities are still possible and maybe even more fun.
We have these one-piece waterproof rain suits for our younger kids and these Swisswell waterproof jackets and trousers for the older kids.
Set Up Activity Stations
There’s a reason kindergarten classrooms have learning stations! It gives kids a variety of activities and the power to choose what they want to do first, next, and last. This can work for all school-aged kids (or older) though.
Set up different activities (they don’t need to be complicated) throughout the house or in corners of the living room so they can see all of the activities available to them. This is especially helpful for kids whose attention span may be on the shorter side. Some ideas include:
Homemade playdough (or store-bought)
Water play
Slime
Pipe cleaner challenge (have kids build something from pipe cleaners)
Dominoes
Watercolors
Moon sand
Discovery bowl (a bowl of rice with fun toys hiding inside)
Egg decorating (use toothpicks as paint brushes)
Toddler activity stations
Fingerpaint
We also keep a copy of kitchen science experiments around for indoor days. I love that it’s self-directed, full of science facts, and doesn’t call for special ingredients. I also notice my older kids are more than happy to supervise when there’s food involved!
Play or Make Board Games
Just getting board games out of the closet may be good enough to engage the kids. Setting out board games gives kids choices, which is always great.
If your kids aren’t thrilled about playing board games, maybe they will get more excited if they create the games themselves!
Grab some cardboard recycling for the game board and gather all of the random figurines and toys that have lost their home for game pieces.
Have your kids come up with rules and practice.
Set aside some family time for them to teach you how to play at the end of the day.
Let Kids Plan a Party
If you’re stuck at home, the days start to feel all the same. Mix it up by having an impromptu party!
Take a look at this website to see what “national day” it is (e.g., national spinach day) and create a party around that theme:
Have a birthday party for a stuffed animal or let the kids make up their own special day.
Find things around the house for decorations or order some online ahead of time.
Make some snacks and tea and invite all of the stuffed animals in the house.
Or, invite family members from far away via Skype or Facetime.
Very important disclaimer: I have the kids do all the work and then arrive at the party as a guest after I’ve finished my work.
Pull Out the (Emergency) Toys
Something I’ve been doing since my kids were little is keeping an “emergency” stash of games and toys hidden away. They often forget about them and it creates lots of excitement when Mom pulls out the “bored box.”
Here are some of the favorite toys and activities from over the years. I try to stick to low clutter, non-plastic items as much as possible, and buy from thrift shops and garage sales most of the time.
Puzzle games like Perplexus
Bulk Legos
Buddha Board – A fun and relaxing way to paint with just water.
Rubix Cube – A good old-fashioned Rubix cube can keep kids busy for hours. Try creating a contest for who can solve it first.
Build Your Own Programmable Robot Kit – If you have STEM-oriented kiddos, this kit is a great investment.
Design Your Own Fairy Wand – This activity is great for encouraging creativity and imaginative play.
Microscope Kit – My kids love using this microscope to look at everything around the house and outside.
Bath Tub Crayons – These natural bathtub crayons are perfect for preschoolers and kindergarteners (roughly 3-6 year olds).
Boogie Board – This reusable writing tablet encourages creativity and is mess-free!
Sun Art – This activity is one of my kids’ favorites and they can do it completely on their own.
Kendama Game – Unique game that encourages movement (my favorite)
Reusable Sticker Pad – My kids’ favorite was the faces sticker pad!
Magnadoodle – A no-mess art activity
If you’re stuck inside, these activities should help keep kids occupied and happy.
Indoor Movement
When the weather is bad outside but your kids still have energy to expend, indoor movement activities are a lifesaver! Here are our favorite ways to get exercise inside without anyone getting hurt:
Dance parties
Obstacle courses (kid-designed)
Scavenger hunt
Tug of war (use a towel and have kids sit or kneel on the floor)
The “Floor is Lava” game !
Use masking tape to create indoor hopscotch or follow the leader
Spider web – tape some yarn to the walls of a hallway and challenge kids to climb through without touching the string
A door frame mounted gym like this one is our kids’ favorite Christmas gift of all time. They use it daily.
We have a trampoline in our house for cold or rainy days. It’s great for getting little ones’ energy out when they can’t go outside.
Indoor hammocks and yoga silks for sensory play and comfort (bonus: it helps develop their vestibular system)
Kids will often find their own ways to expend energy when stuck inside, but these activities can focus that energy so no one gets hurt or breaks anything!
Quiet Activities for Kids
At some point in the day, everyone gets tired and siblings often start fighting when they’re tired. To combat these feuds, I offer quiet activities that can be done alone, so everyone can rest and rejuvenate.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with just setting out simple arts and crafts materials and letting kids come up with their own projects!
Music!
We love music in my house so musical activities are always on the list of things to do. Here are some of our favorite ways to incorporate music into the day (and keep boredom away!).
Create a band – Grab a pocket strings guitar or another simple instrument like drums and make some music.
Turn on show tunes and have the kids act out what they’re singing.
Make musical instruments from the recycling bin and play them together.
Learn piano (more on that in the digital section) and practice with a keyboard.
Make wind chimes from a kit.
Make your own music box with this kit.
Music is a fun way to pass the time and is also a great skill to learn.
Entrepreneurship
Instead of just finding ways to keep kids entertained, you can encourage them to start a business! For kids that are seven to 13 years old, this book is a great place to start in inspiring them to start a business doing something they enjoy.
Set up a business incubator at home to encourage kids to think of their own charitable or for-profit venture like:
Doing odd jobs for neighbors or around the house
Pet sitting
Babysitting
Writing books
Selling products (bracelets, lemonade, baked goods, etc.)
Tutoring
T-shirt designing (use a printing service like Printful)
Starting an Etsy shop
For younger kids, you may need to be more involved in this activity (and maybe for older ones as well), but once they get going they will have a creative project they’ll be excited to work on alone.
Digital Kids’ Activities
I always prefer that the kids find something to do that is not using devices. At the same time, my own business is built on technology, so it’s also a world we want our kids to know how to navigate!
These fun activities use technology to teach new skills, which I think is a great use of screens!
Learn a Language
I chose Greek and Latin as my languages in school. They are really helpful in some ways (I can often figure out a word’s meaning by the root), but they aren’t that practical in everyday life.
So, I wanted my kids to learn more practical languages. We’ve chosen French and Spanish and I’m learning right along with them. We are using a free online tool called DuoLingo which makes learning languages a game. It can even be used on a phone or tablet, making it really easy to be consistent.
Learn to Speed Read
I learned to speed read in middle school. It has consistently been one of my most valuable skills in life, so I wanted to teach my kids to speed read too. This program called Spreeder un-teaches bad reading habits and retrains you to read quickly and efficiently.
I recommend the inexpensive premium version because it allows you to speed read almost anything, but there is a free version too.
Learn to Play the Piano
A friend told me about Hoffman Academy which is a resource for learning basic piano online for free. I wasn’t sure this would be as good as an in-person teacher, but so far I’m impressed. It’s really easy to follow along with and learn piano.
Of course, my house is often loud, but a keyboard with headphones helps during times when I need quiet.
Learn to Code
Coding is almost a necessity in our increasingly technological world. Many young people are learning it in their spare time or taking classes since computer science skills are quite valuable today.
Codecademy is a great place to get online instruction on how to code. It’s interesting and engaging for most kids. If your kids can read, they can start learning to code.
Learn to Cook
I think that kitchen skills are incredibly useful but many adults don’t have them. We decided to try a course for teaching kids to cook and we are hooked! It’s all online and teaches kids knife skills, how to follow a recipe, and more.
This activity does require an adult’s supervision but is a great investment of your time. Soon the kids will be making you dinner!
Other Online Activities for Kids
Here are some additional digital activities that can keep kids entertained when necessary:
And if you’d prefer to avoid screens, check out these interesting podcasts that my kids love:
I tend to prefer screen-free activities for my kids, but we have been known to use and enjoy these digitally based resources. We just make sure to balance screens with lots of outside and creative play.
Remember: Boredom Is an Opportunity!
Rather than taking responsibility for solving my kids’ boredom, I try to encourage them to sit with the feeling and see what comes out of it. I find that instilling independence is the first step and once they are used to finding things to do on their own, they won’t be able to stop!
Still, it helps to keep this list in my Notes app for some fresh inspiration. Often the kids end up using their own creativity to come up with original ideas I never could have thought up!
What are your go-to activities your family enjoys? Do you have ideas that are low on mess and high on skills? I’d love to hear!
