a goddamn rockstar
for @corrodedcoffinfest prompt 'eddie'
rated t | 912 words | cw: language | tags: side steddie, robin is also here, kinda just feels right to have these 6, new spicy 6 just dropped i guess
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Eddie Munson was born to be a goddamn rockstar.
His mama told him before he could even hold a guitar: "You're gonna show this world what music is, string bean."
His Uncle Wayne told him when he was crying at her grave: "You're gonna sing for her, Ed."
Jeff's dad even looked at him in awe the first time he watched him play and said: "You've got what they look for, Eddie."
His guitar was an extension of him from the moment Wayne gave it to him, never out of sight if he could help it. Wayne would joke that it would melt to his hands in the heat of summer while he sat on the porch strumming through whatever song was on repeat in Eddie's mind.
He could play by ear, a gift that he was lucky to have since they couldn't afford lessons or those books at the record shop that showed actual music. A song would play on the radio or on Wayne's record player, and within two days, Eddie would be playing it like he wrote it himself.
Wayne would watch in awe, watching his fingers glide across the frets like it was as easy as breathing.
When he formed his band, he was clearly the guy who would lead them somewhere. Jeff, Frankie, and Gareth were talented, of course they were. He wouldn't have bothered with them if they weren't.
But they were doing this for fun, because they thought it would be cool to get to play on a stage, maybe have an audience beyond their parents and unwilling siblings and cousins.
Eddie was doing this because this was what his life was going to be. This was his future. His everything.
They practiced twice a week, they played at The Hideout every Tuesday, and then every Thursday when more than a few people bothered to show up. Wayne made sure to switch his days off so he could be there to "babysit", an agreement between the owner and him when he saw how young they were.
They competed in the school talent show, but didn't even place. It was rigged anyway. Only the popular kids ever won it.
They took a day trip to Indy for Gareth's 16th birthday, playing at a pop-up show for local bands. Not quite a Battle of the Bands, but still a fun time.
Nothing came of it except for Jeff finding a girlfriend who would break his heart a month later, but they were glad to have the experience.
It still wasn't enough for Eddie.
But it became irrelevant when hell tried to take him, and then when cops tried to after he barely made it out of that alive.
He owed everything to Nancy Wheeler and Hopper, though.
He'd make sure to dedicate his first album to them.
God, Hopper would hate that. He couldn't wait.
It took him three months to pick up his guitar again. His dexterity wasn't the best anymore, and his biggest worry was that he wouldn't be able to play at the level he'd been at before.
Steve convinced him, though. Shyly asked him if he knew any Blondie, and of course Eddie knew Blondie. So he played Blondie.
Steve kissed him after.
Eddie decided to add Blondie to their shows and Steve to the front row.
As soon as Gareth graduated, they went to Chicago, looking for opportunity.
All of them wanted it, but Eddie needed it.
Steve came with them, and so did Robin. Frankie tried to make a move on Robin, got told to lose his dick, and then they became good friends. They all shared a rented house in the suburbs, rundown and needing more work than any of them could possibly give it, but it was a roof over their heads.
They didn't get many gigs, and the ones they did were for free or barely enough to cover the cost of gas to get to them.
But they didn't stop trying.
The one thing that everyone always commented on was how Eddie was made for the stage.
Corroded Coffin got lucky. That's what anyone in the business would say.
They happened to be filling in for a band last minute at a festival. It wasn't even supposed to be metal music. But they toned down their sound for their set, focusing on rock hits that all of them enjoyed.
They put on a hell of a show.
And someone was watching, someone who could make something happen for them.
Within a month, they were recording a demo of their real sound for a label, including two original songs and two covers. Two months later, they were signing a contract that didn't completely suck and booking studio time.
It was almost too much at once. After wanting it for so long, Eddie thought maybe he wasn't actually supposed to be doing this.
It was long nights, longer days, and arguments he never thought he'd have with his closest friends and boyfriend. It was finding balance between his music and his family. It was not knowing if all of this would even pay off for them, for him.
But their album did better than even the label could have expected, better than any of them had dared hope. They were planning a tour. They had t-shirts that Eddie didn't have to make himself.
He had Steve with a VIP badge backstage every night.
Eddie Munson was a goddamn rockstar.

Body Hopper Files: The Executive
After my last random experience of inhabiting the body of a young fast food worker named Mateo, I couldn't help but admit that my current host was a refreshing change. Living life as Mateo wasn’t so terrible, with his nightly shifts at the restaurant and his casual hookups with attractive guys he met on dating apps. But as always, my time in his body came to an abrupt end.
As I felt myself slipping away from him, it was like the sudden drop of an elevator before I found myself in a completely diffrent body, living a whole new life...
I opened my eyes to find myself in a luxurious office building, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit - far different from Mateo's fast food uniform! I could feel the brisk office air conditioning on my neck and noticed an expensive, heavy watch clasped around my wrist. In my pocket was the latest smartphone in a luxurious leather case. This man definitely had some good taste! Using his face as the password, I unlocked the phone and switched to the camera.
Tumblr media
In the reflection, I saw a mature yet well-groomed face with a white beard and impeccably styled silver hair. It was evident that this man took great care of his appearance and had the means to maintain it. The scent of his high-end cologne wafted up to me and I could feel the quality of the clothes against my skin. This was certainly a step up from Mateo's life!
"Mr. Jenkins," a cheerful voice called out behind me. Drawing on the man's memories, I realized that was now my name - Michael Jenkins - and the person addressing me was my executive assistant James. And according to Michael's memories, I was...the Vice President of Special Projects. Not too shabby for this guy! "The call with the regional manager team will be starting in 20 minutes, will you be joining?"
I smoothly tucked away my phone and cleared my throat before adjusting my tie, fully embodying the confident persona of a top-level corporate executive.
I couldn't help but notice that James was quite attractive. Fresh out of college and eager to please, I recalled from Michael's memories that the two of us had occasionally hooked up in the office. Well, now that I was in control, I definitely planned on taking advantage of that!
"Yes, James, please inform the team that I will be joining...and since I have about 20 minutes free until then..." I gave a sly wink and ran a well-manicured hand along the sizable bulge in my suit pants. "Yes, sir!" James knew exactly what to do, pulling me into an empty office and quickly closing the blinds.

What It Is to "See" in Trigun
"You can really lose yourself in that blue sky... Ah... There I go again. Rem... It's silly, isn't it... that I'm still thinking about... how I want to show it to you."
The theme of sight, showing, and eyes comes up quite a lot in Trigun. This isn't exactly an in-depth analysis, more just an examination of what "seeing" really is, at least in the context of this manga.
A notable recurring thing that happens in many of Knives' scenes is the obscuring of eyes and faces, either others (Vash, usually) or his own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two panels from Trigun Maximum Volume 7. One is of young Knives, his hand obscuring most of his face. His thumb is bleeding from where he's bitten it, and it streaks blood next to his open left eye. The other is also of young Knives, his face shadowed dramatically. His right eye is closed and crying. His left is wide open, ringed in darkness and blood from where his thumb has trailed down his face. End ID.]
The obscuring of one eye in the scene where Knives decides to crash the ships makes it so he only looks through one of his eyes - or, like he is only seeing one perspective, or one side to things. Knives, in his fear and anger, blinds himself to seeing anything other than what he already expects. In the second image, he is torn between a closed crying eye and a wide open one, dragging blood down the side of his face. He chooses the path of blood over tears, and refuses to change this from this point on.
Tumblr media
[ID: A panel from Trigun Maximum Volume 13. A younger Legato leans over with a stricken expression. His right eye is obscured by his hair as tears spill from his right. End ID.]
As a bonus note, Legato's hair often conceals that same eye that Knives has obscured on himself, perhaps a visual representation of not only him also seeing only one path forward, but also that his path is one of devotion to Knives. Elendira's hair does much the same.
We also have the cult known as the Eye of Michael - "Eye", which counter to its name, actually blinds its disciples into again, only seeing one perspective - looking through only one eye. Half of Chapel's face is frequently shadowed. In the "shoot" scene, only Wolfwood's left eye is fully visible - as, even though he makes a definite point, he himself is genuinely rather hopeless at this point, only seeing one path and one perspective.
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot from Trigun Maximum Volume 2. From a slightly overhead perspective, Wolfwood pulls the gun Vash is holding and aims it at his own head. Only his left eye is visible. End ID.]
It's why it's pretty significant that we start to see both his eyes in Volumes 9 and 10, and why I think it matters that he died with his eyes open.
Livio and Razlo are interesting in this regard too. Split between the two eyes, Livio with his obscured right eye and Razlo with his exposed left. When Livio cuts his hair, his eye becomes more visible, like something of a balancing - but it doesn't end there. Throughout the fight against Elendira, when the two are working together, both their eyes can be seen. They even do a switch, with Razlo being shown on the right, and Livio on the left, as if to show, through their conversation, that they have learned to see each other's perspectives better, and work as a team - they have learned to "see through each other's eyes".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two panels from Trigun Maximum Volume 13. The first is Razlo shown from the right, eye wide and grinning as he rushes forwards. The second is Livio shown from the left, sweating in exertion. End ID.]
Speaking of seeing through other's eyes, we have Hoppered and Meryl's unwilling vision of Vash's memories, which, while incredibly traumatic, also gave them a new perspective they otherwise couldn't have had. This moment is actually key for Meryl to understand Vash as a person on a deeper level, to communicate what she knows about him to others, and to understand why he felt like he had to do everything alone... so that she could make it clear that he no longer had to.
Meryl and Vash, in particular, share in that painful past, and have come to the same conclusion about it - things take time to heal, but it's always worth it to try, and to work with others to bring a brighter world about.
This "seeing the world through another's eyes" is a running theme all throughout the story, and it's the reason for the first quote at the beginning of this write-up.
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot from Trigun Maximum Volume 7. Young Vash stares, eyes wide, as Rem cries and says to him, "Let's see the world together, let's walk through it together. Because the world... I swear, it's not just full of worthless people." End ID.]
Vash doesn't just want Rem to see the beautiful blue sky, he wants to see it with her, because that was what he needed when he was a young kid, fresh from the trauma of discovering Tesla, and unable to see the good in the world all alone. He needed another perspective, someone who could show him something other than hopelessness and fear. Instead, he had to force himself to search for it alone.
When he wants to show Rem that blue sky, it's because he wants to show her he's found something worthwhile and good. Just like she promised. It's not all awful.
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot from Trigun Maximum Volume 10. Amidst two panels of Vash's outstretched hand and Wolfwood falling towards him, on a white background, he thinks "That's why, after everything's been said and done, I wanted to see tomorrow with him. Isn't that right... Wolfwood?" End ID.]
When he wants to "see" tomorrow with Wolfwood, it's a promise of sticking together and of continuing to offset each other's perspectives - they trust each other to be their other set of eyes that makes seeing the hope in the world, and other pathways and options and interpretations different from their own just that much easier. Vash sees a future and a hope outside of fighting Knives through Wolfwood, something he previously could not do.
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot from Trigun Maximum Volume 14. Ethereal looking feathers fall over a crowd of civilians, who look upwards at them with varying expressions of shock and curiosity. End ID.]
And when the Plants share their memories with humans, and the humans respond with tears, it's the ultimate culmination of what it is to "see" in Trigun - to see is to understand another's story and their personal plight.
To see is to understand is to hope for the better for yourself and for others, and that puts you on the path to slowly but surely healing. To making a change for the better, to finding that light in the dark. That blank ticket.

🤖 Anatomy of a Cyberman
Cybermen are humanoids 'upgraded' through cybernetic conversion, stripping away organic weakness to create efficient, nearly emotionless beings.
Tumblr media
🧬 Cyber-Conversion
Lacking any natural means of reproduction, Cybermen rely on "Cyber-conversion" to, uh, recruit volunteers (okay, not always volunteers). Organic bodies are overhauled, trading flesh for metal, inhibiting emotions, and installing pure logic processing for survival, with unquestioning loyalty to the Cyber cause. And there's no going back.
🎩 Varied Cyber-Bodies
There's no one-size-fits-all in Cybermen fashion, but they do keep a few classics in rotation:
The Classic Metallic Look: Shiny and silver. Most Cybermen follow this silver theme, but they've had other styles—black Cyber-Scouts, and even one in wood.
Mondasian Legacy: The early CyberMondans from Mondas had visible circuitry and gauze-covered faces; they were a little more DIY. Later versions from the Mondasian colony ship still retained parts of their human body like hands, and had an eerie, sing-song voice.
🛠️ Features
💔 Emotional Inhibitors: For Cybermen, emotions are nothing more than a liability. So they simply switch them off. Each Cyberman is fitted with an "emotional inhibitor" to keep pesky human feelings—like regret, fear, or the utter horror of their situation—at bay.
🔫 Weapons and Adaptation: Laser-firing helmets, chest-mounted blasters, and adaptive armour make Cybermen formidable. They're also masters at adapting to new threats and sharing it with the hive mind. Speaking of ...
👥 Hive Mentality: Cybermen pride themselves on efficiency, and what's more efficient than a hive mind? Linked by an extensive network, each Cyberman can share information, adapt to threats, and communicate without those bothersome MS Teams meetings.
🔧Self-Healing Powers: The later models could heal almost instantly, and detach body parts entirely. Resistance, honestly, is futile.
⏳Primitive Time Travel: Yes, Cybermen have tried time travel, and while it's more of a space hopper than a sports car, it does mean they'll show up at the most inconvenient times.
⚠️ Weaknesses
Though resilient, Cybermen have notable weaknesses:
Gold Sensitivity: Cybermen have an allergy to bling. Gold clogs their respiratory systems, making it highly effective against them. Mr. T is practically untouchable.
Weak Against EMPs: A strong EMP will disrupt their circuitry, temporarily putting them out of commission.
Explosive Fragility: Although tough, Cybermen are not invulnerable—some well-placed explosives, a bazooka, or a Raston Warrior Robot can bring them down.
Emotional Overload: Either by the Cerebration Mentor, or breaking the emotional inhibitor. If the inhibitor were to break it would be messy, painful, and involve more existential angst than Proust, so it's best not to dwell on it, unlike Proust.
Hive Hacking: Their hive mind is both an asset and a vulnerability. A skilled hacker—or a particularly clever Time Lord—can exploit it to turn their collective mind against them.
Other Lesser Known Methods: Cybermen can also be disabled or weakened by a chemical mixture known as Polly Cocktail, high radiation levels, and the scent of a particular flower from a particular planet (though we have no idea what flower on what planet).
🌌 Eternal Threat
The Cybermen genuinely believe they're doing the universe a favour by spreading the 'gift' of conversion. After all, who wouldn't want to live forever in a buff metal suit? The Cybermen may not have feelings, but they sure have ambition. And with each new upgrade, they're getting closer to making sure that everyone joins the Cyber club.

I just noticed they do something very strategic with Mike not only in the contents of each season alternating in love interest screentime but also with bookending his stories.
We know about that final scene but it has actually been a consistently gradual transition from season to season, with those establishing shots showing what this season will start with for them but also what is to come - or, reflectively, what it was really about - in their ending shots.
Season 1 started with Mike's grief for Will and ended with his grief for El. Season 2 started with Mike's grief for El and ended with their reunion, while El's started with her new father figure and ended with her reunion with Mike, representing some new semblance of "normalcy", (and Will's started by establishing new safety precautions: he doesn't bike anymore). Season 3 started with Mike and El romantically and ended with ambiguity of who Mike's shown grief was in application to, while newly grouping Will and El for the coming season. Season 4 opened with Will doing something romantic alone and Mike and El doing something romantic together (which ended up being subverted quite directly - being a letter signed "love" from El). It closed with El independent and determined and Will and Mike together.
But it's also interesting how this is sometimes used in favor of subversion. For example, season 2 started and ended with El as a focus for Mike, but its contents were consistently Will. This is also true for it starting with El and switching in season 4, though the ending reflects that and the contents were more complicated: focus on El but time spent with Will, which even that is a reverse of his opening with Will and closing with El in season 1 where he spent time with her in which his focus was Will on a technical level but he was also deepening connection and romance with her as he talked with her ABOUT Will.
My favorite of these is season 2, as the book ends sort of trick you into thinking the season was about El for Mike and Mike for El, when really (as reflected in her opening), it was about Hopper for El and Will for Mike.
Anyways, their bookends are cool to look at in how they both accurately and subversively setup the contents of the season, depending on what they want the audiences to perceive. Season 2 was a "happy romance between Mike and El, not Mike and Will" but its contents don't reflect that. On the other side, though season 3 IS accurate in demonstrating a slight focal shift from El for Mike to both of them, and season 4 is accurate in showing Mike with Will in the end but subversive in what this may mean by setting the expectations at the start of his plot being WITH El, which it wasn't.
(it's also arguably a subtle choice to cut to El right after Brenner, even if separated by titles, to foreshadow what her arc is actually about, similar to the inclusion of Will in her letter foreshadowing for Mike)

Random Thoughts About Disneyland & Star Wars Galaxy's Edge
Tumblr media
I had the chance to visit Disneyland California in Spring 2024, a trip that brought back a lot of memories since my last visit was decades ago as a kid. Reflecting on the experience now, here are my random thoughts...
General Thoughts
As a kid, I thought Disneyland was all about rides. Now, as an adult, I realize it’s a mix of rides, shops, and food.
The Park Hopper option isn't worth it. If you have the time, focus on one park per day. The distance between parks is farther than expected, and it doesn’t justify the extra cost.
Lightning Lane is definitely worth it. You can book a Lightning Lane for specific rides and then use the time between bookings to find rides with shorter lines and be more efficient.
The food is a bit expensive, but the quality is good.
One major difference from when I was a kid is the performers. Back then, characters roamed freely, ready for photos or autographs. Now, interactions are more structured—you usually need to book or wait in line.
Disneyland Park
The first thing my wife did was put the kids on Thunder Railroad, and she scared the shit out of them! The last time she went to Disneyland, she was a teenager and only cared about the more thrilling rides. We then got the kids to go on some of the story-based "dark rides" and the kids loved them - my wife did too.
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage was very different from when I was a kid (pre-Nemo) and it's been gussied-up with underwater screens, but despite the updates, it still felt quite dated. The ride is getting replaced, so I’m glad I had the chance to experience it one last time.
Indiana Jones™ Adventure had been overhyped in my mind for decades, so nothing could quite live up to that level of anticipation. The ride itself was still cool, but the movements were too jerky for my taste.
Mickey’s Runaway Railway was suprsingly good. We only tried it on the last day, but it was so good we wished we’d used a Lightning Lane on it every day.
My kids loved Pirates of the Caribbean—we rode it seven times!
Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is wild—literally. It features the characters drinking, crashing, dying, and going through hell. I wonder what the hell the movie is about.
Mickey’s Toontown was still under construction the last time I went, so it was great to see it all finished. My kids enjoyed the playground areas, and it was neat to see the interactive stuff, even though a bunch of shit was busted.
Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain were closed during our visit, so the kids missed out on those classic attractions. Hopefully, we’ll ride them next time.
Disneyland Star Wars
(Including the Star Tours stuff here even though its technically in Tomorrowland.)
Black Spire Outpost was an incredible experience. They nailed the Star Wars vibe—walking around felt like stepping into the movies. We caught the fireworks from there one night, and it was absolutely rad.
My kids loved the interactive features available through the app, which let them activate lights, sounds, and effects in the scenery. Not many people seemed to use these features, though.
Star Tours has been updated since the '90s, now featuring randomized content. Every ride offers a slightly different experience. My son and I rode it 13 times, almost seeing all the video segments—though Disney added more after we left. Guess that’s how they get you to return!
Smuggler’s Run made me feel sick, but I still went on it three times. The concept is awesome, but switching between watching the screen and pushing buttons messed with my stomach.
Rise of the Resistance: A friend told me I had to ride this—even if I had to pay to skip the line. So I did. Twice. Then, one evening, the line was only 40 minutes (we got through in 20), so we rode it again. Disney’s tricks are all on display here, and the trackless carts really enhance the immersion.
The build-your-own lightsaber and droid options were tempting, but hella expensive. We ended up getting the kids the cheaper lightsabers at Star Tours.
California Adventure park
This was my first time visiting California Adventure Park—it wasn’t around when I was a kid. Of course, it decided to rain during our visit, which dampened the experience.
My kids weren’t really into Pixar or Marvel at the time (though they’ve since become Marvel fans). Several rides were closed due to the weather, and many live performances were canceled, which was disappointing.
My son and I lined up for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! The pre-boarding area and lead-up areas were awesome. The video content during the ride was great. However, the ride itself was, as the French say, horrible.
Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure was a lot of fun, and it's exciting to think about how the entire Marvel area will expand.
Pixar Pier felt like a cleaner, more polished version of Playland in Vancouver.
It was strange seeing people walking around with beers in a Disney park.
The Riveting Conclusion
Overall, it was a fantastic trip, and the kids already want to go back. Disneyland truly nails the details. The park’s expert design—with immersive areas and carefully crafted sightlines—makes each world feel like a complete escape.
Disneyland is a masterclass in “how to make you forget you’re standing in a parking lot.”

Number two from the OC worldbuilding ask game for Sydari! Tell me all about them languages >:)
2. How does your OC communicate? Are they monolingual or multilingual? What is the linguistic environment they’re in? If they’re monolingual, is there a social penalty for only speaking one language, or is it the norm? If they’re multilingual, which of their languages or sociolects has the most/least prestige? Is there a separation between written and oral forms of the language? Can your OC blend in or does their language mark them in some way? What are their levels of fluency, and how do they feel about them?
Sydari primarily speaks Cyrodilic, she grew up in Windhelm, and her native tongue was heavily repressed, particularly after the Great War. Ulfric's ascension saw a city-wide crackdown on all cultural practices that deviate from Nordic tradition. You'd think that would mean she picked up Nordic? No, her people were mostly confined to the Gray Quater with a few exceptions, Dunmer were not permitted to speak Nordic. They are not permitted to engage in their festivals or freely hold their own. So Cyrodillic, as the lingua franca of Tamriel became Sydari's first language. It's the only language that she can read and write in. And even then, her literacy leaves a lot to be desired. She coasted by with semi-literacy until she couldn't hide it any more. Dunmeris, though heavily repressed as of 4th Era 199 was freely spoken in the Grey Quarter just long enough for Sydari to pick it up. These restrictions came in slowly throughout her childhood, ramping up with the outbreak of the Great War, around the same time she fled the city. She's semi-fluent in the Windhelm dialect, though she never learnt how to read, let alone write using the daedric alphabet. Her father was no help, though he did speak exclusively in the Vvadenfell dialect of Dunmeris, it was often slurred, mumbled monologues that she only half remembers. She never really thought much about it. It's not a language commonly used in Skyrim, and though some of the Dunmer in Riften spoke a similar dialect, it was never the language anyone used to address her. Her husband knew even less, so she had to teach Brand-Shei a few key phrases. (The journal Sydari finds in the Pride of Tel Vos was translated for her by Enthir for a few favours). She was always mildly bothered by the fact she couldn't read or write in Dunmeris, mostly due to an old note she was given as a child, something secret she kept as good luck. She's had multiple opportunities to have it translated, it's just something she's built up in her mind over the last half a century. It's almost better to not know what it says. There's a scribble of an eight-legged creature she later discovered was either a netch or silt hopper, the drawing was kinda crude. Sydari hadn't really planned on visiting Morrowind, her life was in Riften, she had a home, and was attempting to build a family. But things go wrong as they always do and she found herself alone pursuing a job on Solstheim. She found that she couldn't really understand the version of Dunmeris that was spoken in Raven Rock, she had the basics but there were intricacies, phrases, implied context that she just did not have the background to understand. What makes it worse was that her knowledge was just assumed, most Dunmer that live there come from Blacklight. Sure a handful lived in Windhelm but that was before the more obvious restrictions. When she first arrived, it was hard to get anyone to speak to her unless she switched to really basic Dunmeris, Skyrim-born Dunmer are somewhat pitied but not coddled. If she wanted to speak to them, she had to use her mother tongue. Sydari is pretty good at bullshitting, so she's been able to bluff her way into acceptance. Geldis was willing to speak to her in Cyrodillic right off the bat. The guy is usually pretty open and wouldn't disparage her for not understanding half of what was being said to her. Being a tavern owner gives him more experience in dealing with outlanders. Teldryn spoke to her using Cyrodillic pretty early on, though he still assumed she was more fluent than she let on. He writes to her exclusively in Dunmeris and it's begun to cause issues. She's asked Geldis for translations on several occasions but she's embarrassed by her lack of knowledge. She mostly just switches to smiling and nodding. Only getting the letters translated if he brings them up. The letter form is familiar but she hasn't made the connection yet.

Okay, so I saw a post about the fruity four and their DND classes and I've maybe been thinking about it a little nonstop so here are my thoughts enjoy
The Teens
Steve - Paladin, Oath of Redemption. The redeeming is for him, btw, he needs all the help he can get. His weapon of choice is a spiked club that was originally Jonathan's.
Eddie - Bard/Rogue. He was a rogue first because of his dad and then discovered the power of shredding it and the rest is history. College of Glamour and a Thief. If his dad hadn't been the one to teach him, then he'd absolutely be an Arcane Trickster. Also he's a Tiefling because "hunt the freak" babey.
Robin - A Wizard, because she's a nerd. Idk why but I see her going the Transmutation route before switching to Abjuration after Upside Down shenanigans.
Nancy - A Gunslinger, this is obvious. Look at her.
Jonathan - Barbarian! Who fights against his natural rage because he hates it! :D (his rage: aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just wanna go apeshit? Jonathan: I'd really rather not).
Argyle - Druid, Circle of Dreams. Day by day, he lives his life just hoping he'll suddenly know what the heck is going on. But he's chill about it.
The Kids
Mike - Paladin is like, the one, right? Paladin of Devotion? We all agree?
Will - Warlock, specifically the Fiend. The Demogorgon is literally referenced in the pact description I don't make the rules. Made a pact with the Upside Down, probably against his will and probably didn't know what happened until a lot later.
Eleven - Shadow Magic Sorcerer! Her blood is tainted by the Upside Down. Also Tiefling El is v cool.
Lucas - Ranger, Monster Slayer Conclave. Still loves his slingshot.
Dustin - Artificer being trained under Mr. Clark. Battle Smith because they have these things called Steel Defenders, which are like automaton companions and his is basically D'art but a robot.
Max - Monk, Way of the Shadow. Still has her skateboard because why not.
Erica - Mastermind Rogue. Gets all the dirt on everybody and is NOT afraid to use it.
The Adults
Hopper - Fighter, either a Banneret or a Champion. Has a level in Barbarian as a treat. (But ALSO. Blood Hunter Hopper. Can we imagine).
Joyce - Cleric of the Light Domain, but only after Will was stolen away to the Upside Down. Her holy person helped her figure out how to communicate with him through torchlight and sunlight. (Can't decide on whether or not she has an actual like, god she worships or if it's just the living will of the Right Side Up).
Murray - Divination Wizard who is very confused and upset that his "sight" doesn't work in Hawkins. What to heck.

twice the fool PLEASE and also idk which one is vampire byler but THAT ONE please 🤲🧎‍♀️i would like to know what ur most excited about in those ones & also if you would mayhaps like to share a line/snippet~
HI LARK thank you so much for stopping by :D 💜
twice the fool (stonathan): this is my stonathan btvs au for the upcoming stonathan week!!
i'm very excited for it because i'm taking one of my favorite btvs episode plots and applying it to stonathan! if anybody can guess which buffy episode it's from i'll give you a gold star and dedicate my next cat to you~
i'm also excited to work with the older teens from st for once, and i think it's been really nice to creatively switch things up for me this way. i've loved getting to apply some of the buffy character archetypes to st characters: Robin is basically Buffy, i've made Nancy a mixture of Willow and Faith, Hopper is Giles (💀), and Steve is kind of the Xander figure
here's a snippet because i am very excited for Chrissy's role in this fic :)
Chrissy Cunningham – The Spelling Bee! – Serving all your Hawkins High magic needs – knock three times on the table in the woods behind the football field – walk-ins only! The teachers had been mercilessly scraping her fliers off the hallways’ corkboards, and Steve had grown so used to them that he hadn’t bothered to really consider them anymore. Since the hellmouth had been opened last year thanks to Will’s disappearance, all kinds of weird shit had been attracted to Hawkins, and Hawkins’ citizens had, in turn, become more attracted to some of their town’s oddities as well. Namely, a lot of the Hawkins High students had become interested in magic, Chrissy being the most interested of them all. She’d transformed from a total popular cheerleader type to the girl who sat in class and played with crystals or read people’s palms. She was still popular as hell and had the top cheerleader spot of course, but everyone had agreed she’d grown a little…odd. But Hawkins has always been weird, just grown a bit weirder, and odd is exactly what Steve needs right now.  Magic is what Steve needs right now. He knows Jonathan still feels something–he saw it in Jonathan’s eyes, in the way his fists had shook against his crossed arms. It wasn’t Jonathan’s heart that had made that decision, but his head, that infernal logic that’s been trained by years of abuse from a deadbeat father that said it was better to cut and run before you end up with a fist against your teeth.
in throes of increasing wonder: an interview with the vampire au i haven't touched in a hot second but never say never amiright lol
working on this one has been most exciting for me because it's set in New Orleans, a city i have spent a lot of time in!! i haven't really seen any byler fics where they're in the south (which like,,,i understand bc the south is The South,,,,,,but also there is some cool stuff here, and not everyone is horrible, right?). so when i have worked on it, it's been fun to incorporate my own knowledge and experiences with the city into my writing. i also will die on the hill that most US cities are largely the same and don't have much variance, but i do think New Orleans stands apart from the rest and has its own really unique vibe/culture. i know every major city will say but like,,,do they have Mardi Gras? do they have king cakes and jambalaya and beignets and a city that sits below sea level? no. they do not.
here's a snippet!
He approaches the mirror, and he examines the damage. Spots speckle all up and down his throat; when he tugs at his collar, they continue down his clavicles and shoulders. His lips are swollen and his hair is a mess, but what draws him in most is the bite. That’s all it can be–what it has to be. Teeth marks, sharp and punctuated against his skin, blood crusted around where the openings have swollen shut. He presses at them, flinches at the throbs of pain they send like shockwaves up to his head, which spins with dizzying delight. More dried blood flakes off and falls like crimson snow against his shirt, which he dutifully swipes away with a half-hearted hand.
It’s not the strangest thing, especially in a place like New Orleans. He’s seen plenty of people in the wake of a passionate night out with all sorts of discombobulation: torn clothes, patches of hair missing, teeth fillings scraped out and matching tattoos scrawled into each other’s skin. It just means he has to wait for it to heal, to cover his neck like he’d have to anyway. Damn the October warmth; the least he could’ve done is have the foresight to do this in January or February, where he could at least put on a scarf.
thanks again Lark!! i'm wishing you all the best and sending you the best of vibes for writing fantasy au pt 2 :] 💜💜💜

How To Operate Concrete Batching Plant
The operation of a concrete batching plant is a complex process involving several steps and details, which can be mainly divided into the preparation stage, the charging stage, the mixing stage, the transportation stage and the unloading stage. The following is a detailed description of these stages: 1. Preparation stage - System energization and inspection: After the automatic control system of the concrete mixer is energized, it enters into the operation page. Carry out a series of inspections, including no foreign matter stuck in the mixing cylinder and the transmission and movement parts of each supporting mechanism as well as the bin door, bucket door and track, etc., the oil level of each lubricating oil tank is in accordance with the regulations, as well as each electrical device can effectively control the mechanical action. - Reset and recipe settings: The system software carries out the reset solution, which mainly includes the setting of formula standard, concrete grade, caving degree, and production and manufacturing square volume.
2. Charging stage - Raw material weighing and measurement: Based on the weighing of the hopper, measurement to carry out inspection, export empty or full of material data signal, prompting the operating staff to run the mixing management program. Run the sand, stone drive belt drum motor into the pre-materials to the measurement hopper, open the coal ash, cement silo disc valve, run the screw machine motor to transport coal ash, cement to the measurement and verification hopper. Open the regulator valve of the water and concrete admixture tank to allow water and concrete admixture to be injected into the metering and checking hopper. - Open the feeding port: Open the door of metering and checking hopper after the measurement reaches the setting regulations, and the ingredients enter into the already running mixer. 3. Mixing stage Inside the concrete mixer, the raw materials are mixed with water, and fully mixed and crushed through the high-speed rotating mixing blades to make the concrete uniform and consistent. During the mixing process, it is necessary to pay attention to whether there are people in the mixer and on the conveyor belt, and when there are people, operation is prohibited. 4. Transportation stage While mixing, the concrete mixer conveys the mixed concrete into the concrete transportation truck so that the concrete can be transported to the site. 5. Unloading Stage After transporting the concrete transporter to the construction site, the concrete is discharged from the vehicle through the hydraulic discharging system. 6. Shutdown and cleaning Before the concrete mixer stops, it should be unloaded first, and then close the switches and pipelines of each ministry in order. All the cement in the spiral pipe should be conveyed out, and no material should be left in the pipe. After operation, the mixing cylinder, discharge door and discharge hopper should be cleaned and flushed with water, and the additives and their supply system should be flushed at the same time. The knife seat and knife edge of the weighing system should be cleaned and the weighing accuracy should be ensured. 7. Precautions - Safe operation: After starting the machinery, carefully check the operation of the machinery and check whether the rotation direction of each rotating part is consistent with the direction of the marked arrow. No repair, maintenance, lubrication, fastening and other operations can be carried out during the operation of the machinery. It is prohibited to put hands and feet near the gate, mixing drum, spiral pipe, etc. - Troubleshooting: No shutdown is allowed when mixing with full load, when fault or power failure occurs, immediately cut off the power supply, lock the switch box, remove the concrete in the mixing drum, and then troubleshoot or wait for the power supply to be restored. - Training and examination: The mixer operator shall undergo study and training to understand the structure and performance of the mixing system and operation work procedure of the unit, familiarize with the safety operation and technical specifications, familiarize with the basic operation of the computer, and basically understand the quality requirements of concrete and the main properties, specifications and roles of the raw materials, and shall only be allowed to operate after passing the actual examination of the parent company. The Enduring Legacy of GTA: Vice City in the Modern Gaming World
When Grand Theft Auto: Vice City first hit the shelves in 2002, it revolutionized the gaming industry, blending vibrant aesthetics, a compelling narrative, and an open-world experience that set the standard for future games. Now, more than two decades later, Vice City’s impact continues to resonate within the gaming community, with players both young and old revisiting its neon-soaked streets and iconic soundtracks. This blog delves into the enduring appeal of Vice City, examining why it remains a beloved title in the Grand Theft Auto series and how its legacy has influenced modern gaming.
The Birth of a Classic
Released by Rockstar Games as the fourth installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, Vice City was an immediate hit. Set in the 1980s, the game transports players to a fictional version of Miami, where they step into the shoes of Tommy Vercetti, a mobster who rises to power in the city’s criminal underworld. The game’s vibrant portrayal of the 1980s, complete with neon lights, pastel suits, and a killer soundtrack featuring hits from the era, captured the imagination of players worldwide.
Vice City’s open-world design was one of its most significant innovations. Players were given unprecedented freedom to explore a living, breathing city, complete with a diverse cast of characters, side missions, and hidden secrets. This level of immersion was groundbreaking at the time and set a new standard for what open-world games could achieve.
A Story that Stands the Test of Time
One of the key reasons for Vice City’s enduring popularity is its story. Unlike many games of its era, which often relied on straightforward narratives, Vice City offered a complex, character-driven tale inspired by iconic films like “Scarface” and “Miami Vice.” Tommy Vercetti’s journey from a low-level thug to the kingpin of Vice City is compelling, filled with twists, betrayals, and moments of genuine emotional depth.
The game’s story was also bolstered by its voice acting, which was exceptional for the time. Ray Liotta’s portrayal of Tommy Vercetti remains one of the most memorable performances in gaming history. The supporting cast, featuring talents like Dennis Hopper, Burt Reynolds, and Danny Trejo, further elevated the narrative, making Vice City feel like a cinematic experience.
The Soundtrack: A Love Letter to the 80s
No discussion of Vice City is complete without mentioning its soundtrack. The game’s music selection is a key component of its identity, featuring a carefully curated list of 1980s hits that perfectly capture the era’s spirit. From the pop anthems of Michael Jackson to the rock classics of Iron Maiden, the soundtrack is a nostalgic trip for anyone who lived through the decade or appreciates its cultural impact.
The in-game radio stations, each catering to different musical tastes, added to the immersion, allowing players to switch between genres as they cruised through the city. This attention to detail in the music department set a precedent for future games in the series and solidified Vice City’s reputation as a cultural touchstone in gaming.
The Evolution of Open-World Gaming
Vice City’s open-world design was revolutionary, laying the groundwork for future titles not just in the Grand Theft Auto series but in the broader gaming landscape. The game’s expansive city, filled with activities and side missions, encouraged exploration and experimentation. Players could choose how they wanted to approach the game, whether by following the main storyline, engaging in side quests, or simply wreaking havoc in the streets.
This freedom of choice became a hallmark of the Grand Theft Auto series and has influenced countless other games, from “The Elder Scrolls” to “The Witcher” series. The sense of agency that Vice City provided its players was unprecedented, and it paved the way for the open-world genre to become one of the most popular in gaming.
Modding and the Modern Fanbase
Even as technology advances and new games are released, Vice City continues to have a dedicated fanbase, in part due to the modding community. Modders have kept the game alive by creating custom content, from new missions and characters to graphical enhancements that bring the game’s visuals closer to modern standards. This community-driven content has allowed Vice City to remain relevant in the modern gaming world, introducing the game to new generations of players.
One of the most popular forms of modding involves converting the game for mobile devices, giving it new life on platforms like Android and iOS. These mods often come with additional features, such as improved controls and updated graphics, making Vice City more accessible to contemporary audiences.
The Influence of Vice City on Modern Games
Vice City’s influence can be seen in many modern games, particularly those that emphasize open-world exploration and narrative depth. Rockstar itself has continued to build on the foundations laid by Vice City, with subsequent titles like “Grand Theft Auto V” and “Red Dead Redemption 2” refining and expanding upon the formula. These games have pushed the boundaries of what open-world games can achieve, but they all owe a debt to Vice City’s pioneering design.
Moreover, the 1980s aesthetic that Vice City popularized has seen a resurgence in recent years, with games like “Hotline Miami” and “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon” drawing inspiration from the neon-soaked, synth-heavy world that Vice City so vividly portrayed. The game’s cultural impact is undeniable, and its influence continues to be felt in both mainstream and indie gaming circles.
Conclusion: Vice City’s Place in Gaming History
GTA: Vice City is more than just a game; it’s a cultural artifact that has left a lasting impact on the gaming industry. Its blend of open-world freedom, compelling storytelling, and 1980s nostalgia has ensured its place in the pantheon of great video games. Even as technology advances and new titles push the boundaries of what games can do, Vice City remains a beloved classic, cherished by those who experienced it in its heyday and discovered by new players eager to explore its vibrant world.
As we look back on the legacy of Vice City, it’s clear that its influence will continue to be felt for years to come. Whether through modern remakes, fan mods, or the ongoing inspiration it provides to developers, Vice City’s neon-lit streets and unforgettable characters will forever be a part of gaming history.
