Spy x Family's Secret Story

A few days ago, I learned something interesting at school: some stories have secret stories.

Hopefully, I can explain it: a secret story is what is not told explicitly in the narrative, but that the reader can understand by the character's behavior, thoughts or actions.

The most interesting part is that this secret story is, in many cases, what pushes the main story forward.

So, of course, I had to apply this to my sxf brainrot 😏 It took me a while to figure it out, but I think I got it...

Remember this panel?

It's one of the most celebrated panels in the manga. We finally got to see Twilight shirtless 😎 and we've enjoyed countless fanarts of it (thanks to all the wonderful artists 👏) Well, it was precisely this panel and the timing of it what made me realize about Spy x family's secret story.

This is the first time we see Twilight naked, right? This was also the first time he realized he was vulnerable.

Here, Twilight, master of disguise, best spy of Westalis, rips his disguise, admits that he has weaknesses and shows us that he's injured because of this vulnerability.

Think about the symbolism of it; a person is at their most vulnerable when naked and we didn't see him in this state until he had that conversation with Yor. Even though the arc was about catching Wheeler, the secret story of that arc was about weakness. Wheeler himself mentioned it several times and it's not a coincidence that in this arc Twilight shows weakness not once, but three times:

1. By not killing Yuri (and getting shot)

2.By getting hurt during the confrontation with Wheeler and lastly...

3.When he sees Yor again!

It's also not a coincidence that he got physically hurt because he showed weakness. I suspect it won't be the last time this happens. Keep that in mind for the future...

All this is related to that secret story l mentioned at the beginning. I think SxF secret story is precisely that, not weakness, but vulnerability.

That conversation he had with Yor was about that; she was trying to convince him to be vulnerable with her (more on that here). And his thoughts were about that too; he's telling Yor in his mind he lives in a world where he cannot be vulnerable.

And that last line!!

It's exactly what secret stories are about: unsaid things.

The fact that an arc about weakness and vulnerability started and ended with Yor and where Twilight acknowledged his weakness is very significant. Do you see it too? All this happened because of her and I think he knows it too.

Twilight's struggle with vulnerability is what pushes the story forward and ultimately what makes so many of us connect with the characters. Clearly, he's losing the battle with himself and he's trusting and relying on his wife more every day; we see it in his behavior. We all want that to happen too!

Because, what is more human than to become vulnerable because of love?

Hey everyone! It's, uh, it's certainly been a minute.

If my brief return a few months ago and then radio silence yet again is any indicator, I'm sure most of y'all probably know where this is going.

HOMECOMING, as of now (and for the indefinite future) is going to be on hiatus, and maybe discontinued.

This project initially started out as a silly idea, a culmination of my love for the yandere vn community and the wonderful games it has created, and my original plot and cast of characters. In the beginning, I was trucking along, working on scripts, planning out routes, spending hours of research on coding and how to get this thing up and running. Not to mention, the attention my silly lil project garnered was a lot. At least to me. I've had a semi popular writing blog before, and was no stranger to inbox asks, and how they pile up, or the notes that popular posts can get.

I was far too ambitious in all honesty, and once the glitz and glamor of a new project wore off, I hit a massive wall. Hard. It seemed that to actually work on HOCO was much like pulling teeth - whether it was writing, drawing, or even *thinking* about it, I found myself sinking further and further into a imposter syndrome of sorts.

And well, I guess making this announcement is sort of proving it right.

Even so, I've always known when to take a step back, when to settle down -- and now, I'm just making it official. I owe you all at least that much.

The blog will be staying up - I have no plans to delete it in the slightest. I'll just log out of it most likely - I'll still be around on my personal tumblr, where I'll hopefully start being more active there again.

Nothing could have prepared me for just how much care, how much love you guys have shown HOCO - so much so, it's still hard to believe. All the fanart, the fanfic, the memes - they're all saved to my phone, in their own album. Thank you to all who have made amazing creations for my silly characters, as well as the countless asks y'all have sent - maybe one day I'll be able to answer all of them.

I really hope one day I can return to this project with fresh eyes -- I'm hoping real, substantial time away from it will help that process. There are other, personal projects that I've been doing that have helped that creative spark again, as well as indulging in traditional fandom activities, mostly fanart. Unfortunately, I think it's safe to say that my time in the Yan VN community is over for the time being, at least until/if I start working on HOCO again. (Or whenever I play the latest updates of 14DWY - I am the Leon Fan Club President after all ^^).

I've been rambling too long, and I think it's time to close this chapter for now. Thank you all again - and one last Henry for the road. They were there since the beginning of HOCO in 2019, so it feels right for them to be here at the end.

Thank you all SO MUCH for the positive feedback on TTAS! It makes me so happy that you all are enjoying the story so far. I’ve been wanting to share this story for some time, and I’m so proud that I’ve stuck with it!

I talk about more updates under the fold. If you don’t care about minor changes to the format and style of the comic, you can skip.

The most important takeaway is that the comic will be staying on an every other week schedule. More details about that below!

I mentioned at the beginning of this comic that I’d be working to figure out what exactly works for me vs what doesn’t.

This comic is a learning experience. I’ve never stuck with a comic long enough to understand what all it takes. I greatly appreciate your patience!

That being said, something was learned from Chapter 1 - being that pages take a lot longer when there are more characters to draw. (Big shock, right?)

So starting in Chapter 2, the pages will not contain my drastic shading styles. I’ve already experimented with this in the last scene and it just makes my life a whole lot easier. Coloring everyone is already a lot of work, and it would mean stretching the already lengthy posting schedule.

They will still be colored, and I might use shading for dramatic effect, but it will not be something I do for every panel in every page. I hope you all understand.

I’m also going to be changing the text. I really wanted the text in the comic to stand out, but I’m not sure if my reasoning was due to stubbornness or just wanting to do something different. I played with this in the last scene as well, and I think it looks much better. Hopefully you’ll agree.

Last thing - because of how busy I’ve become, TTAS will stay on its current posting schedule of every other week. Unfortunately, with how much longer it takes, plus many other responsibilities that have fallen into my lap, I don’t realistically see myself posting every week. I really hate to say that, cuz I know it will stretch the life of the comic a lot, but I know this is what’s best for me so I don’t burn out or have to take constant hiatuses.

It’s possible that I might post more frequently in the future if my schedule frees up or for specific chapters. We’ll see!

Maya did you hear? That last fanart you reblogged makes references to some panels of the chapter 431 of mha. Apparently bkg and kiri are still good friends in the future, seeing him having shotgun and eating in bkg's car?(He is so pretty too <3 my baby's face card and big lashes never declained hell yeah) they are besties :') knew they were hanging out and doing their thing "behind cameras" im so happy for that that's all i wanted at this point.

HELLO!!! i'm back from months of silence on this blog!!! thank you for the message, i hope you're doing well! i live in shock and awe that krbk's deep, inexplicable friendship was confirmed all the way up to the end of the end!!

i somehow managed to delete twitter JUST before leaks hit but was still using other social media for another day or so, which is how i reblogged that art not knowing it was based in canon at all!! i even remember thinking "aw i'm happy pa/unchsalazar comes back to krbk every now and again". back in august i was underwhelmed w how cramped the original/"true" ending was, so i was really enthusiastic abt an epilogue that could give the characters (especially izuku) a little more time to speak. however in noooooooo way did i expect any sort of krbk interactions, let aloooone to the extent that we got!!

my own personal krbk anniversary (january 15th!!) came around this year for the 7th time - i have always been mega mega deep into krbk but this chapter really threw me for a loop. hopefully this stays in my krbk tumblr containment chamber but i think realistically this is the most krbk ending we could've gotten so in my heart i kind of see them as supported by canon. and if that sounds far fetched then let's get into the question of what is krbk anyways? an anime ship? a "bond between equals"? a strong friendship between two boys that, no matter how far their stories converge, always gets circled back to? i think honestly the gray area of them having a really admirable friendship that also makes you think "if they're just friends then what the fuck is going on" has always been part of why i like them so much and what is more "what the fuck is going on" than bakugou using the kanji from kirishima's hero name in his own hero title, despite all language norms and for no feasible reason. their weird friendship grew up with them. i love them.

i agree that lol i am going to miss the distinct lovable flavor of mid that bnha provided - that really hit me in the chapter where deku finds uraraka on the cliff and calls her his hero, then the entire class finds and joins them. it's equally odd and pleasant imo that bnha has been winding down as i've been preparing to leave japan. i feel really lucky to have been here for most of the wind down and to have gotten to buy its very last chapter in jump and visited a lot of the victory-lap events - on that note here's a picture of when i got to take krbk to the tokyo tower collab:

(the tokyo tower collab is the source of this character art and alongside lots of merch and collab drinks the main event was a "mystery game" where you solve a packed of puzzles using clues on the character standees scattered around the tower. i found it totally delightful and also really challenging at times - i partnered up with another foreigner girl and we muscled through the final stage together and still needed the help of a verrrry kind staff woman to complete it)

...and i'm going to try to make it to as many events as i can before my time is through!! next weekend i'm attending my first doujinshi market!! and a lot of krbk artists i've known for a long time are gonna be there!! in that same weekend i also want to check off the tokyo skytree collab. it's funny because i was never interested at all in going to tokyo tower or skytree but then randomly because of bnha i'll be knocking them both out in the span of 2 months. lol. i'm also really excited to go to the final art exhibition and will report back on if bakugou "gets too shy to talk about kirishima" in the audio narration this time around

So yeah to kind of explain what's going on, I moved out of my parents place two years ago, and recently we realized that we just can't afford it anymore, so we're moving back in :) we're actually very excited about it, I have a wonderful relationship with my family and it'll be a great opportunity to save money and set up our futures a little bit!

The problem came up when my dog got sick. She's a nine year old pitbull mix, we've had her for five years now. She is the absolute sweetest girl in the whole world, and we found out this last month that she has heart failure. I won't keep you on the edge of your seat, she is doing much much better now. But it took lots of expensive tests, medications, and even an emergency vet visit at 2am to get her back to this point. You can probably imagine that considering we were already running out of money to the point that we have to move back home, these unexpected expenses have completely crippled us financially. We're very lucky that she's doing better, since there were a lot of treatments she would've benefited from that we just couldn't afford.

Now, all we need to do it make it through the next five weeks paying rent and utilities and groceries and stuff-- and we'll be pretty much home free, including being able to afford more treatments for her. So yeah! Commissions will hopefully help us across that finish line. Thanks again for reading :)

Ghost trick!!!! Loved this game it was exactly what I expected from a Shu Takumi game. I do hope they plan to make a sequel or crossover, I really loved the mechanics of this game.

Summary

Shu Takumi has done it again (even though this is a remaster lol). What and incredible mystery game with really fun mechanics. There were definitely a couple times I was stumped on what to do or was stuck bc I missed my window of opportunity, but I think it worked well since the puzzles were difficulty and you couldn't just immediately breeze past them all. I also really enjoyed gaining missile's abilities later and having to think of the puzzles in different ways. The characters and animations/sprites were really fun. There's so much personality in them without even saying a word. The game also reveals character information in a really good way as you slowly learn more about the mystery of the game yet also feels like you're getting farther from learning who you are. I also just love how this game is just made with so much love for Takumi's real pets and how Sissel ended up being Yomiel's beloved cat... what a sweet ending oh my god. Each level had such a fun and unique design while also adding a twist to the puzzle, like the stealth level or submarine sinking level. The game also has many unlockable achievements to encourage replayability as well as concept art and other illustrations to unlock. There's so much added to this game and you can really feel the love and care the team put into this game, I hope there are more Ghost Trick games in the future or hopefully even a Ghost trick x Ace Attorney crossover -- I wonder how that would play out esp with Maya's spirit abilities. All in all, such a sweet and fun game. Not too long either. Can't wait to replay it to get all the achievements and make fanart!

Actually I remember doing thick linearts before to make it look like y2k bubbly styled and I was thinking of going back again since I wanted to make logos or icons like this one:

These ig were just a lil practice if someday I'll be making one (or more of these). Also this is just an example btw, these are artist-made game icons. Imo, if it were me to be commissioned to design one or if I was assigned by a game dev, then most likely its gonna look like something that y'all won't know who did that thing lol.

Besides, I'm pretty sure a lot of people were inspired by my artstyle. 😭 Also in case you guys don't know what these are, I'll show you guys mine. (NOTE: You can still check on archive, I don't mind though-)

I kinda remember drawing this back in the day since 2023, the sketch version (on my other sketchpad) was discontinued. Supposed to finish it but, sadly I gave up because the hair was something that reminded me of an Inkling from Splatoon (rarely I noticed the first miku fanart also reminded me too lmao).

Okay LISTEN, I may not be good at anatomy but might as well tried especially RED's head. For the BG, I only duplicated the character + added a screenshot/fakescreenshot/whatever, to make it look related to both y2k & frutiger aero (same applies to Hatsune Miku).

Nothing to say much but I've been thinking of making more character concept arts in the future & maybe work on shoes since they look a bit too complicated much.

Overall, I'd say it isn't bad. I'll just leave as it is for now (until some BRC fan shows up and sees this).

I remembered drawing this for future use if I ever find a music composer either if they can do DnB, game soundtrack or whatever but it slightly depends on them. Also shout out to Lxchee Music! They're the ones who compose music like these. They even commented on my speedpaint video!!! (after using their songs lol).

Such a shame that I am limited to drawing only however, I wish I also was a composer of this whooooooole album then everyone's gonna listen to my bangers. One time I used to make music in Beepbox.co (a website where you can compose there).

There are some music-composing softwares that most people use for their game making & also songs. I wish I'd even use FL studio or other music-composing. Reminds me, I also have one friend who makes music (unrelated to dnb or any genre) using accordian & any other instruments that he uses. I swear, he is so good in composing Nintendo Orchestra-music related I can tell.

Conclusion

No worries though, I didn't say I hate using thick lineart but its sometimes too much for the anatomy still and might not fit pretty well. I can still do another one hopefully just to focus on more y2k aesthetic. But if it were me to learn anatomy, might as well use thin lineart and just increase to make it look like there is perspective on it.

back at it again, next month's pride month, juneteenth, AND my birthday! (not in that order, my birthday's the tenth, (i'm sure my THOUSANDS of LOYAL FANS will give me MILLIONS OF FANART OF MY NOT VERY PUBLIC ORIGINAL CHARACTERS !!!!)) wow! i did quite a bit more than i thought i did this month

As is probably obvious, i played through and beat Cyberpunk 2077 AND its DLC, a really good game actually! i was shocked!

er, narratively, i mean, of course the gameplay is still pretty jank even after many many updates, but NARRATIVELY a thought it was a really solid story! and the DLC was PHENOMENAL! genuinely! anyways here's a bunch of cyber/cyborg characters and fanart and stuff of my OCs who are ever so inspired a little now

wow! in other news, i drew up this dog person after watching the Sonic OVA fully for the first time (very smitten with the idea of a technicolor animal post-apocalypse), also those Phenomenal guys remember them? wow!

my April writing experiment, By Jove!; is still extant, and i MAY post the story itself here in the near future, i wanna touch it up and draw for it still first, but have some drawings that may or may not necessarily happen in the story!

holding out my hand to you i too was a sky artist for a time until the game wore me out

it sucks because i really love the core gameplay loop a lot and then it became farming and cosmetics and micro transactions n shit

i wrote a whole custom ttrpg for the game that ill never really be able to publish because the mechanics are so intertwined with the game and i cant really legally sell fan products (i even went so far as to email their legal team)

i designed a whole character sheet and it was gorgeous and one of my favorite pieces ive wver done and she will never see the light of day…

this has been in my drafts for more than a week already ( my own fault ive been really thinking of a response to this bc anything skycotl has been a tense subject to talk about ) but i am SO glad to hear you felt a similar way about it and sad that youve come to that point. Ive become increasingly disillusioned for the game as time passes but looking back on it depresses me. Especially since its one of THE games that have carried me here to where i am today and one that i used to hold very close to my heart along with journey and several of thatgamecompany games. Its a shame! The longer time goes, the more apparent how demoralised the company becomes to the core ideas that made the game special wither away into the very chasm of videogame greed they sought to repel from the start.

To be fair. I haven't played for a very long time and its going to be kept that way, so maybe my claims on here arent as true as they used to be back in its hayday. Because for some reason i still think this game can pull itself up and reclaim what it had lost long long ago but from what ive heard recently it hasn't been that way and unfortunately the influx of players coming out to complain about tgc gives me that impression.

And like i understand what that feels to have made something you were impassioned to do as a testament of love for the game only to come out with disdain. I can't divorce it from the media it came from because of how inextricable all the designs and concepts were to the world of sky that it'd be almost next to nothing if it were detached from it! Unless i just copy the entire lore ground up which in that case would just be plagiarism and something I just wouldn't like doing. Not all is lost though imo im on the belief that every thing you make you will learn from for future projects so if its not sky, the things you learned from creating it can be used to aid in the creation of your next thing!

So 🤝 shaking your hand anyways. What mightve happened to me when i was 16 might not be something that happened to you but i feel the frustration, hopefully you're on bigger ventures now from sky. It's done me alot of good and alot of bad and honestly glad to have experienced the good while it lasted.

Also sfgsg I've heard about the dreamweaving event where fans could submit fan designs for the team to choose from that quickly turned really sour when some of the contributions were stolen fanart and its like, lol. Ok. I have no idea how none of the devs thought that wasn't gonna happen but it's like i could really care less about their decisions at this point. SFSHSF

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION TIME BABEEYYYY!!!

I have some plans for some fun things I want to at the very least try to accomplish this year:

Finish the Supersonic Wonderbirds model sheets. (The turnarounds are done but im currently working on extra stuff like illustrations of each characters abilities and skills, weapon turnarounds, detailed character info ect...)

Make a mock up for the cover page of the first Wonderbirds book. (Don't expect pages, I have no plans to work on pages this year, that may change I dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

More random Wonderbirds doodles in general, as well as maybe fake screenshots. (Fake/ not fake kinda maybe not really, since they might end up being canon in future)

Finally got around to make fanart for The Wayhaven Chronicles! I present to you Detective-Agent Val Batra!!

As always thank you @kazukitnacho for your instructions❤️ it took a while to finish this off but hopefully I can add another post with a moodboard or Val's expressions or something.

Things of note:

I wanted to portray different moments in each of the books to better showcase Val as a character. Book I is when "Murphy" had her and Mason cornered; Book II is exposing her neck scar while at the carnival; Book III is at The Bidder's Nest.

My first round I played as they/them and picked the name Val because it sounded cool, and later started thinking about the Meaning™️ of it all. I decided to default with "Val" even when I started playing with she/her, so that's that.

Behind The Name says the surname "Batra" can be either Indian or Arabic, so I wanted to reflect that through her character design. In my mind (because I didn't comfirm it xd) Rebecca took Rook's surname, so Val's ethnic heritage is directly connected with her father's!

Regarding Rook, I think Val is the living image of the man -his face, his height, his built- but the complete opossite of him. Where he was charming, she's intimidating; where he was impulsive, she's cautious; where's he was friendly, she's stoic; and where he was stubborn, she's flexible. They both grapple with being funny but genuine. So basically Rook but with Rebecca's personality. However, as of Book III, I see Val becoming more and more like Rook in the future.

Talking about Rebecca, the first time I played and she was introduced, I was like, "oh- we're Jewish! Cool!" (shorsighted assumption in restrospective but bear with me) so I added that into the mix. I might elaborate more on this later but for now Val's favorite pastry to have with her coffee definitely is chocolate rugelach! Those things look so tasty!!

Textually she has black hair and grey eyes, but in my mind I see the grey being borderline black- like, dark as a tunnel. I really love the idea of light being reflected on/through them, and when putting it all together the black eyes/black hair are so so cool.

She dresses subdued or smart. She's into science and deduction, so she's a huge nerd who spends all her time doing research instead of combat training. She's a mind over heart, overall optimistic teamplayer, and she's always by the book.

My main influences for her design were Alba Flores and Saffron Vadher. So beautiful!

The font I used for Val's signature is Southam Demo Font and you can find it in 1001fonts.
