Peace and Serenity in the Canadian Rockies (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: With the nearby trees, the river and a mountain backdrop, this image was a peaceful view. It was at a bend in the Athabasca River. Mount Fryatt and the other peaks of the Hooker Icefield Range are the backdrop. One can see both vibrant colors in the trees and contrasts coming in the shadows and such on the mountainside, which I also noticed, But in the end for me, it was the peaceful setting int he Canadian Rockies that drew me into this image.

A Drive Through the Canadian Rockies and Icefields Parkway (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: With a clear highway to stand and take in this view, I attempted to center myself on the road and mountains beyond. What a mountain view to take in while driving and soaking it all in! Mountains and more mountains...

The Athabasca River and a Mountain View (Jasper National Park)

The Athabasca River and a Mountain View (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A stop along the Icefields Parkway heading back from Jasper, AB to the Lake Louise area. This is a view of mountains in the Hooker Icefield Range, including Brussels Peak, Mount Christie, & Mount Fryatt. I used Silver Efex Pro 2 which brought out a rich tonal range of contrasts. Oh, and yes...it was an amazing view of mountains to take in that day in Alberta!

The Athabasca River and a Mountain View (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A color version of an image capture along the Icefields Parkway. I found the B&W one brought out a better contrast for the final image. The color one though brings out the amazing view better. Athabasca River below and mountains all around.

Brussels Peak and Mount Christie Caught in the Glow of Sunlight (Icefields Parkway) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: Here I zoomed into to capture the glow on the mountainside and clouds above. Yes, the mountains were amazing but the yellow glow from the sun really added to the final image in my mind.

Real Jasper National Park-land!
flickr
Real Jasper National Park-land! by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along Alberta Highway 93A in Jasper National Park with a view looking to the south-southeast. This is while standing along the shoreline of Leach Lake with a mountain backdrop that included Mount Fryatt and Whirlpool Mountain. I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward as I felt it better brought out that view to allow the eyes to slowly move across this national park landscape and be drawn into the image.I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Athabasca River Flowing by the Mountains of the Canadian Rockies (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views along a walkway at Athabasca Falls. This is in Jasper National Park along the Icefields Parkway. With this image, I decided to capture the setting through an opening in some nearby trees, as the river flowed by with a backdrop of mountains.

My Refuge Amongst the Mountains of Jasper National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at an overlook pullout along the Icefields Parkway with a view looking to the south-southeast to the ridges and peaks of the Hooker Icefield with Mount Brussels (Brussels Peak) and Mount Christie. This is at the Goats and Glacier Lookout in Jasper National Park. With this image, I decided to zoom in with the focal length and have those glacial carved ridges and peaks fill the image from edge to edge with portions caught in the morning sunlight.

Finding My Home in the Mountains of Jasper National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While taking in views at Athabasca Pass Lookout and a setting to the southeast across a nearby forest and mountainside in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image was to take advantage of the layers present and create a look beyond to the more distant ridges and peaks of Mount Kerkeslin and Mount Fryatt. While there was a slight haze from the wildfires going on in Alberta at the time, I was able to reduce some of that using the ClearView Plus tool in DxO PhotoLab 6. I also worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

A Zoomed in View with the Athabasca River (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at Goats and Glacier Lookout along the Icefields Parkway with a view looking to the south. This is in Jasper National Park. With this image, I decided to zoom in with the focal length and have the river fill the image from edge to edge. I focused on this one section that had a set of islands present in the river and a backdrop of the evergreen trees.

It’s Always a Good Time to Explore Jasper National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the south-southeast while taking in views across this glacier valley with the Athabasca River flowing by and then more distant ridges and peaks of the Hooker Icefield range with Mount Brussels (Brussels Peak) and Mount Christie. This is at the Goats and Glacier Lookout along the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. As opposed to a wider angle, panoramic view, I decided to zoom in with the focal length and have much of the forest and mountains fill the image from edge to edge with a little bit of the mostly to partly cloudy skies above that had some glow from the rising sun.

No Matter How Many Times I Have Stopped Here, I Never Tire of the View (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along Alberta Provincial Highway No. 1A, or Icefields Parkway, with a view looking down the road to the southeast. Given the very light traffic that morning, I was able to stand in the middle of the road and line up the image to have a balance on both sides of the road, as well as centering the ridges and peaks off in the distance with the image center. The rest was metering the image to get a proper exposure to not blow any of the highlights in the upper portion of the image, where the sun was starting to shine on the mountain peaks, while still being able to pull out the colors, without a color cast, in the lower portion of the image with the woods and forest. I've been to this location probably five times over the past 14 years and never tire of this mountain view! Based on the PeakVisor app on my iPhone, I was able to identify Mount Brussels (or Brussels Peak) and Mount Christie of the Hooker Icefield range.
