Is it ok if you draw hoodude? I’m generally curious how you’d do the style.. if.... that’s ok at least.

ngl the commitment to the bit is EASILY the best part about Hoodude. Like?? It would not have been hard for them to have just designed a bland Guy character with some button pupils and stitch details. But no. Hoodude is this life sized raggedy anne doll instead and i love it so much.

The fucking sdcc exclusive hoodude is one of my favorite things, like they just put alil plushy in a monster high box akjbhgd

HooDude has always been a fave character of mine because he was so whimsical and silly, but the SDCC set was something I just couldn't justify buying because plush toys are so outside of my scope as a collector.

But recently I've been on a Monster High kick (in case you couldn't tell lol) and wanted to give making him a try as an experiment. I actually started a Hoodude custom a few years back, hoping to just make him a jointed figure but I wasn't happy with the direction I was going in.

I cobbled together a DC Superhero Girls body and some assorted spare parts before sculpting a head. I realised I could marry the two concepts of a hard plastic doll and a plush toy by setting about sewing an outer "skin". I can not fathom how to sew a plush toy but I do know how to draft a mostly fitting outfit so I went about approaching it as a fursuit using the foodwrap/masking tape method.

I used a mix of denims to match the different shades of his body and add some texture but I made sure to use a jersey knit for his head because that's how it's textured in the CGI movies.

For his hair, I used some minky fabric cut into strips and sewn them to his scalp in a similar way one would glue on wefts for a wig. I also did some freehand stitching for his face and used these two buttons for his eyes.

I'm really pleased with how he came out because I was worried about drafting the pattern for his fabric components totally freehand and making sure it fit snugly. His hands are actually removable so I can switch out tops and such if I really wanted to.

His jacket was a masking tape pattern put on top of his fabric skin since I wanted him to have the option to wear normal clothes and I'm glad I have a working hybrid of the two ideas.

Yes, a commission! In this modern day, can you believe it? I've yet to finish 2 more comms, I hope to finish them this year, honest to god. It's so hard to get a grip on some responsibilities, as I gotta figure stuff out appointment-wise with my driver's exams, psychologist-stuff abt my diagnosis still, and ofc, deal with the fact, that I gotta babysit my coworkers (not exaggerating, I keep being bugged on my weekends about my coworkers over some random annoying stuff they didn't wanna do under the normal work-week), and continue to study for tests and finish a presentation until next week.

^As you can tell, it's a bit stressful lately, which is why I had difficulty drawing at home, getting out of bed, to add with cramps post-work, hip- and knee pain in my bones, migraines. it all stacks up, and it doesn't help, that I lately had a spike in my ADHD seemingly acting up again. Been unable to concentrate, been getting overwhelmed, been having some EXTREME time-blindness. It's a bit hard with life lately. :")

It probably makes sense, why I was absent for a good bit. I ache a lot physically, and mentally lately and just. A. LIFE. I DO NOT LIKE IT. BUT MUST SURVIVE IT.

I again, tried something different with the lighting here, being a more direct-light source! I tried to make the lights look harsher, and I think this isn't too bad! Again, in hindsight of 2024, months later, shoulda proooobs made the shading sharper in appearance, still looks too soft, for direct-light hitting this floppy fellow. And also, added a drop-shadow for Heath near the lighting. Dear god, I wish I wouldn't make so many mistakes aaaa.

But oh well, that's what passage of time is, growing up, sucking up mistakes, trying to rid of your perfectionism.

I'm still having some issues making the head, but THE BODY IS ALIVE!

G3 Hoodude.

I switched that weird dark green/blue color on the original for pink, and realized until I had made some progress that Hoodude was now the Trans Flag.

My story for G3 is that Frankie saw Clawdeen and Clawd, Purrsephone and Meowlody, Cleo and Nefera, Deuce and his sisters, etc. interactions and started to wonder how it would be to have a sibling, and while helping Skelita with some designs, she also expressed missing her baby brother back home, and they decided to get silly and made a "life size" little brother so they could play pretend.

And much like the original, they didn't realize until later that Hoodude was actually alive. This time, however, Frankie's parents welcomed him with open arms into the family, and he regards both Frankie and Skelita as siblings (Skelita's family also acknowledge him as another member of their family, but they're in another country, so they haven't been able to meet in person).

Although they designed Hoodude as a brother, he is very much indifferent to how he's addressed and considers himself agender, with a slight preference for he/him pronouns.

I ended up finding quite a few eyes for him. The "official" ones would be a fucsia and an aqua buttons, but I'm wondering if I should mix it a bit, since I redesigned him anyway.

Opinions? Suggestions?
