Honest Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, 3658 Capitol Ave Suite M, Fremont, CA 94538
I didn’t realize Honest was vegetarian until I started typing this review. The Indian street food menu is extensive (Indo-Chinese fried rice, noodles), paratha, sandwiches, Bombay chaat & snacks (e.g., pani puri, samosa, vada pav), dosas, Indian pizza, tawa, and several kinds of bhaji pav. Honest started as a street food cart in Ahmedabad, India in 1975. The food is made from scratch and they claim to not use frozen or processed products.
Vada pav (2 pieces, $10.49): This looked so good: two thick deep fried potato patties on soft pav rolls (similar to Hawaiian rolls but not as sweet), sprinkled with crunchy bits, and served with two sauces (cilantro chutney, tamarind chutney). The pav rolls were warm, soft, and fresh. The potato patties were hot with a crunchy exterior and spiced with mustard seeds and probably garam masala or something similar. They tasted like a samosa only in patty form. The patties or the spread on the pav were rather salty though. The tamarind chutney was very sweet. And the crunchy bits that they added weren’t crunchy or hot.
Chai ($3.49): It was a small glass but milky, not too sweet, and deliciously spiced. Sugar was provided on the side.
The restaurant is in a new building, and it looks clean and is spacious. All the diners during my visit were Indian. Jain and Swaminarayan options are available.
3.5 out of 5 stars.

The food here is so delicious and every place is vegetarian friendly 🌱
Dutch pea soup is 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 And their French fries??? They are the best I’ve ever had, everywhere I go. They literally have award winning potatoes here and I can tell 😂
I also had the best Indian food I’ve had since I was in India 5 years ago ☺️ sooo friggin good.
I love the melting pot of cultures here, because that means the food is better and you have so many authentically delicious options! Though it is strange to not really see fellow Latin people around or our culture. I’ve heard French, German, lotsss of Arabic, but no Spanish. I’ve seen a Jamaican restaurant, tons of Asian food, middle eastern food, various EU nations, but definitely no Mexican food, I haven’t even really seen many Tapas (Spanish) restaurants, which is weird.
My honest to G-d theory is that us Latinos don’t like Northern Europe because it’s too effing cold / dark 😂 No podemos 😅 The language is so difficult, that’s my #1 annoyance and why I’m excited to get to Brussels, so I can speak French. I don’t want to speak English but Dutch is too hard 😭
There’s an Italian grandma and her grand baby staying at our hotel and the grandmother speaks to me a mile a minute, but I still get like 25% of what she’s saying and it’s such a relief compared to listening to Dutch 😬
I studied French for 6 years so some of it should come in handy. 🙏🏽

I’m Scotland anon! We’re flying into Inverness and driving to visit my sister who’s living outside Aberdeen. It would be cool to know a couple good places to go, but also any tips to not embarrass myself as a tourist?? Ty!
Hi! I'm going to be honest, i haven't spent a ton of time up the north end of the country, at least not for a good few years, so i'm afraid i don't have a ton of insight on what places to go around aberdeen, especially if you're looking for nightlife and the like. I know that inverness has a castle and a really cool bookshop called Leakey's and thats about it. I've been to aberdeen exactly 3 times and all i remember about it was that the sea had foam so thick and yellow that it looked like old mattresses and that the seagulls there are massive hulking mutants who run that city through intimidation and stolen chips
I'm not sure whether you're planning on spending most of your time in the city or if you want to see more of the country, but there's some lovely countryside around the north/northeast. Stonehaven is a really nice picturesque seaside town about half an hour from aberdeen. There's a castle/ruins you can take a tour of, and tbh there's few things more scottish than eating ice cream and chips on a beach on a cold day, assuming you're going to be visiting sometime between now and like april lol. If you have the time it's worth checking out some of the islands. Skye is beautiful and one of the closer islands to aberdeen. I think there's a pretty regular ferry from there to the mainland and its less than an hour journey.
(i'm about to go on a food rant sorry) Scotland definitely isn't renowned for its food, but if you are looking to eat 'traditional' scottish food then the best thing to get is fish/seafood. You can get some really good, really fresh stuff in seafood shacks by the beach, but also just in restaurants in any coastal town/city, though i'd make sure to look at locals reviews on google so you don't get ripped off. Scotland is overall pretty good for vegan/vegetarian food too, and we have a lot of really solid indian restaurants and takeaways, which i'd def recommend. Honestly scotland's best culinary offerings are probably curry, ice cream, and whiskey. Also if you find a sweet shop (or more likely a newsagents selling old fashioned sweets) you should try soor plooms, these bright green boiled sweets (or hard candies if you're american).
I really don't think you need to be worrying about embarrassing yourself, i promise you that as long as you have basic human courtesy and aren't super condescending about scottish accents/culture nobody will be bothered by you. I will say that aberdonian accents, and accents around that part of the country are really fucking weird and not very similiar to any of the accents you'd likely have heard on tv, which tend to lean more towards a stereotypical highlands or glaswegian accent, so if you're alarmed by how people talk you aren't going crazy, they just do talk like that. I doubt this will come up, but scottish ppl might get pissy if you mispronounce certain things. Like scottish gaelic is pronounced gah-lick not gay-lick, edinburgh is pronounced edin-bruh, and glasgow is pronounced glaz-go. Also never refer to scotland as being a part of or the same as england, and generally don't refer to scottish people as british. Not everyone will be offended by being considered british, but it's generally a sore spot for people, and the english thing is just plain wrong. Also if you're american and have scottish ancestry its perfectly fine to be excited about being in scotland but if you're too enthusiastic about it people will give you the side eye and think you're obnoxious tbh
sorry i couldn't be more of a help, i actually would have advice about travelling around the middle/south of the country but i'm not sure whether you're planning on travelling down that far and i've already rambled on way too much. If you are thinking of travelling further down the country, especially around edinburgh or glasgow i would be happy to give more salient advice on where to go and what to do. I hope this helped in some way at least :) I really hope you have a good trip nonetheless
#this is way too many words for somebody who hasn't been further north than like perth in god knows how many years#asks#anewbrainjughead

So, if you’re wondering that azure blue seas and dancing palm bushes on white-sand islands are best to be had in Thailand, Maldives and Indonesia, think again! It’s effortlessly accessible via quick, direct flights that perform from maximum metro towns. Delhi is the farthest metro city and it takes about 3 and a 1/2 hours at most from Delhi to Port Blair.
There are lots of couple-friendly accommodations that make for an idyllic putting for a Honeymoon and that they’re to be had throughout all finances levels.
We have a desire of sports starting from water sports activities to trekking to fishing and more. You’ll have something to preserve you occupied each unmarried day, if that’s what you’re after. For couples trying to do not anything and retaining it low-key, we've got a host of accommodations which are perched right on the beach, with a yoga room or a pool-aspect bar, and will provide you the rest & relaxation you want.

Trip duration: For a trip that is mildly-paced and comfy, we recommend someplace between 7-eight days. Anything much less than that would suggest which you’re dashing from island to island with now not plenty breathing area, and this could leave you feeling exhausted and cranky rather than rejuvenated. It additionally offers you the time and area to spend a few real pleasant time with your companion.
More Havelock + Neil, less Port Blair: Port Blair is a top notch addition in case you and your associate need a little little bit of records and culture, however on a Honeymoon, the general public need more romance and less records. So, even in case you entirely omit Port Blair to your Honeymoon plan, it’ll nevertheless be a win. Sorry Port Blair. Havelock & Neil islands are romance-appropriate island spots in an effort to experience right from the instant you step in.
Gently pepper with some adventure: We say this due to the fact a 4-day Scuba Diving Course might not be the right pick for a Honeymoon. It’s quite a mentally and bodily taxing experience that doesn’t go away area for a lot else. You can assume to spend most of the day at sea, observed through some study after which be awesome-tired at the give up of all of it. Not very romance-pleasant. Having stated that, you can nonetheless add a few diving, kayaking, trekking and snorkeling to create some shared stories together with your higher 1/2, sans the exhaustion. Read on and we’ll tell you how!
More non-public experiences: You may also want to ditch the group tours and day-trips in favour of personal ones. So, your plan should consist of a personal boat charter or a non-public trek. Visiting seashores around sunrise can have the funds for you the most romantic walk at the beach with your accomplice. On a fortunate day, you could grow to be being the handiest two people on it! And, most accommodations ought to be extra than satisfied to create a non-public candlelight or dining revel in for you, faraway from the crowded buffets. biography .
auriella yates is the sixth child of eight , born to simone and joshua yates in the windy city of chicago , illinois . she has three older brothers ( chance , charles , and clark ) , two older sisters ( adriana and amelia ) , and a younger brother and sister ( calvin and aurora ) . patrick and simone for some reason found joy in naming their sons with c names and their daughters with a names , but it works for them nonetheless . the family could afford such a grandiose lifestyle in chicago thanks to simone’s lifestyle and wellness brand called honey & lemon ( goop , who ? ) that has since expanded from a newsletter to e - commerce , pop - up shops , a magazine , and a podcast . patrick , on the other hands , is a famous vegetarian chef that has launched three cookbooks while also having his own cooking series on the food network along with a cookware partnership at target . together , they own a vegetarian restaurant in downtown chicago called lemongrass .
growing up , since auriella had so many siblings , she never had an uneventful day . their parents strongly believed in their children playing outside instead of being stuck in front of the television all day , so they often took advantage of their large backyard when they lived in the suburbs of chicago . they were the parents who let their rowdy bunch ruin their perfect grass because they wanted to play in the mud . their parents may have afforded them luxuries that others didn’t have and while their parents had been busy people , patrick and simone refused for their children to be raised by nannies . they were heavily involved with everything that their children did , ranging from their pre - school graduations to their high school proms .
auriella had always been a rather outgoing girl throughout high school , and she knew she was cute so she started an instagram page when she was about thirteen or so . originally , her pictures were just cringey dirty mirror pics and photos with her friends , but as she explored the app more and more , she discovered makeup and her love for it ! so , despite the terrible youtube - tutorial makeup that she tried to recreate , auriella never gave up on her ability to do better . as she moved through high school , her makeup skills got better and better , so once she graduated , auriella knew what she wanted to do in life !
she went on to attend make up first in chicago , and obtained certificates in basic makeup i + ii , media makeup , and media: runway , editorial , and fashion . once she was finished with her schooling , auriella went on to grow her brand and get her name out there . she used instagram a majority of the time , and thanks to that and word of mouth , she grew a significant following and went on to have a few celebrities under her belt . thanks to the help of her parents , auriella decided that she wanted to get into the makeup business entirely , and decided to stick her foot into makeup production .
the brand originally only focused on her favorite thing : eyeshadow palettes ! the palettes were originally rather small , consisting of four to six colors as they perfected the formula . she eventually began to receive rave reviews and decided that it was time to expand into everything else : mascaras , lip products , foundations , blushes , highlighters and everything else under the sun . from there , kaia beauty is now being sold in sephora , ulta , and on kaiabeauty.com ! she had the second largest foundation drop ( following fenty beauty because we stan miss rihanna in this house ) .
that being said , running her own business is one that auriella is still getting used to despite it being two years since the launch . she’s thankful for the expansion of her brand and she’s still working out of her townhouse because she hasn’t found the perfect space for a headquarters just yet ! it’s one of her biggest dreams at the moment and she wants to expand kaia beauty into skincare but the end of the year .
personality .
the label she mostly identifies with would definitely be the harlequin . she can be really loud and playful at times , and she can easily get called out for not taking things seriously .
at the same time , though , she can be pretty sexual in her speech . she has no problem with people looking at her differently for doing so . she really lets a lot of things roll off of her shoulders , but she’d be a liar if she said that some things didn’t get to her .
auriella can be really full of herself and simple compliments can typically leads to her going on and on about herself , so please feel free to shut her up at any given time ! much like anyone her age , she can be found prowling around on instagram or twitter and can never go shopping without taking at least three to seven mirror selfies .
headcanons .
she lives in a beautiful townhouse on west fourth street and she’s really proud to say it because she bought it with her own money ! she likes to be different so she really hates range rovers and instead drives an audi q5 ! sounds kinda dumb since she lives in nyc , but she likes it because it gives her freedom to go where she wants when she wants to .
she never leaves the house without a purse and never without a pair of earrings on ( she thinks she’s ugly without them ) . she’s obsessed with all things cartier and she loves to accessorize , but not to much . she keeps scrunchies in her purse at all times , so if you need one just ask !
when it comes to her style , i draw a lot of inspiration from instagram if i’m being honest . she wears a lot of denim shorts , oversized tees , cropped sweaters , bodysuits , chunky sneakers ... honestly , the whole nine yards . for some examples click x , x , x , x , x , and x .
she’s been vegetarian since she was a kid because that’s all her dad ever cooked ! sometimes the scent of meat makes her sick and sometimes she fakes it so people will leave her alone . she’s definitely the one who shows up to the function with her fake burgers , but you know she has a bottle of vodka along with it .
finds joy in doing the little things ? she’s not the greatest at art but really enjoys buying a canvas and trying her best to recreate or create something ! probably gets a lot of art ideas from tik tok ( those kids are seriously talented ) and really likes to do her makeup even when she has no place to go . she loves laying on her couch and doing nothing ( and sometimes she might be kinda naked when she does it ) .
secret .
okay so , auriella’s secret is that an ‘ anonymous ’ source leaked her nudes to the press , but her parents paid off publications from releasing them . that was mostly done because she was about 17 / 18 in those pictures but of course they’re not age on them so there’s that ! the source of course wasn’t that anonymous and it turned out to be an ex ( which is really gross so this won’t be a wanted connection ) , but she’s not ashamed of them by any means !

It was a nice day today :)
Good day at work, even tho I looked like a fool, coming in 30 minutes late into a meeting cuz I’m dumb like that. My boss assured me it was alright and I shouldn’t stress about it. She’s a really kind lady and understands it was a dumb, but honest mistake on my part.
After that, Nic got us some indian takeout for dinner and omg, there’s this indian restaurant not far from here and it’s absolutely delicious. They have this vegetarian eggplant dish, I have no idea what it’s called but I seriously could eat it every day!
Then we watched the second episode of Haunting of Hill House (I think that’s how it’s called? I), as well as an episode of Great British Castles.

Top Fine Dining Restaurants in Indore
To be honest, there is an abundance of fine dining restaurants in Indore. Some renowned names like Celebrity, Guru Kripa, and much more are quite a talk of the town. But to my astonishment, one such popular restaurant has made a mark to become the finest family restaurant in Indore.
It is The Allahabadi! Since its establishment, it has become a most loved nearby non-veg restaurant from my location. Its prime location in Vijaynagar, Indore, and accessible parking space has made it the best in terms of food, taste, quality, and accessibility.
And to top it all, the staff cooperation and their polite behavior are becoming the talk of the town. And it's not just for Indore's non-vegetarian foodies. It is for anyone who enjoys authentic dishes from all over India and the world. So no more family feuds over which restaurant to visit for a specific cuisine. Because The Allahabadi brings it all together! It serves a variety of cuisines, including seafood, non-vegetarian, north and south Indian, Chinese, and Italian dishes, to name a few.
It’s a must-visit place for all the Indori because actual memories are made around the table of The Allahabadi restaurant!

Somaliland - A land of hidden opportunities - Avalon Global Research
As we ponder over the unprecedented situation we are facing now and stress over the potential fall-out of the COVID-19 pandemic, I thought of sharing my travel experience to Somaliland last year and how a country which is still unrecognized as an independent country, offers a plethora of business and investment opportunities.
To be honest, I didn’t know such a country even existed until I got a chance to travel there for one of my projects! I guess many of us who are not as well-read as the rest would have probably heard of Somalia and not that Somaliland is an entirely different and separate country. What I read and experienced in the next few weeks fascinated me. For those who don’t know, Somaliland is a self-declared state on the coast of the Gulf of Aden, which declared independence after the overthrow of Somali military dictator Siad Barre in 1991. Though not internationally recognized, Somaliland has a working political system, government institutions, police force and own currency. The country has an estimated population of 4 million and per capita GDP of around USD 675, one of the lowest in the African continent.
The first thing that you notice once you land at the Hargeisa Egal International Airport is the absence of baggage conveyor belts (yeah, you read it right!). For an airport with flights from international destinations such as Cairo to Dubai to Addis Ababa, this was shocking to me! It felt like I was standing in a queue in a bus stand in India, waiting for my luggage to arrive, amidst a multitude of people some of whom equally bemused by this whole experience. The immigration process before this was slightly more organized and got over quickly, thanks to the efficient officer at the counter. My next stop was Ambassador Hotel Hargeisa which would be my abode for the next week. The hotel is arguably the best in the country and is often the preferred choice of stay for foreign diplomats and members of international organizations such as the UN. After having spent a week there, I will strongly recommend the hotel to anyone planning a trip to Hargeisa.
Apart from the road from the Egal Airport to Ambassador Hotel and the roads around the hotel, the rest of the road infrastructure in Hargeisa and neighboring towns is pretty dismal, to put it mildly. You will be greeted by decades-old mini-vans and second-hand cars (on the verge of breaking down) once you enter the main city. Add to that, broken roads and lack of any roads in some parts of the capital city makes the entire experience adventurous but very bumpy! Most of the cars you see on the road are second-hand and probably 10-15 years old but driven at break-neck speed! You see a lot of Vitz (Toyota) on the road zooming past you from all directions, similar to the ubiquitous Alto on our Indian roads. Some might say that this is the real Africa, with dilapidated or poorly maintained buildings, poor people selling wares and stuff on the road, and barren land on the outskirts of the city.
Having stayed in Hargeisa for a week and after trying out various local dishes at the Ambassador Hotel and smaller restaurants in the city, it is difficult not to talk about the Somaliland cuisine. The country’s rich cuisine is heavily influenced by countries such as Italy, Turkey, Arab, Ethiopia and of course India. Right from sabaayad (roti-like) to sambusa (our very own samosa) to canjeero/laxoox (fermented pan bread), you get to choose from a multitude of options in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. One thing that I was not too adventurous to try is the camel milk, a very popular item in Somaliland. It might not be appetizing to you, but this is their delicacy! One thing I liked and tried a lot is the Somali tea, one of the best I had in a long time.
The country has gone through a lot of turmoil and since it is not recognized by international organizations, it is not eligible for loans from the World Bank and the IMF. This exclusion from international markets has compounded the socio-economic pressures that the country is facing.
Despite a not-so-large population base, the country offers great opportunities for investments, exports and imports, also because of its relatively younger demographic structure. Owing to the country’s troubled history and lack of sufficient opportunities to deal with the outside world, I found the people in Somaliland warm and extremely hardworking. However, business and investment will be key to create jobs, sustainable growth and prosperity in Somaliland. In Somaliland, where 63% of men and 80% of women between 25 and 34 years of age are unemployed, this need is particularly important. I hope the country gets its international recognition soon and then make up for lost ground on the back of stronger financial support, an industrious working class and large untapped markets.
On a personal front, if someone asks me if I would want to go back to Somaliland, I’ll say YES! I wish my earlier stay was long enough to see more of their rich culture and try out more of the delectable Somali cuisine (I will still skip the camel meat and milk!). If I get an opportunity to go back to the country in the future, I hope to see a better place with people living in peace and prosperity. After having been through so much strife over the past many decades, they definitely deserve it!

Discomfort Food
Sometimes you just can’t make up the things you see in the news. A few weeks ago, while on the cross-Montana leg of my journey, my phone started exploding with notifications about a well-known American restaurant chain. Turns out they tried to make some proactive strategic moves, but one of them bit them in the hind quarters.
Cracker Barrel has become a highway mainstay the last 30 years, with more than 600 restaurants in nearly every US state. They have been fabulously successful using about one-third of their store to sell country-themed merchandise and candy, which customers are forced to peruse while they wait for a table. And once seated, the menu features a wealth of homespun comfort foods that is more hearty than healthy, appealing to an unpretentious middle class market segment.
The company suffered greatly during COVID, and was struggling to find new ways to kickstart itself. They added beer and wine, a few premium items, and a build-your-own breakfast option in an effort to attract Millennials as well as those from higher income brackets.
Oh, and they also added Impossible Sausage, the plant-based sausage alternative from the folks who make the Impossible Burger. And you would have thought the sky were falling to read the online reactions of loyal Cracker Barrel customers. Cue the head explosions.
Turns out those loyal customers rather like eating at a place that has long belligerently turned its nose at fat and cholesterol. While it was technically possible for someone to dine vegetarian at Cracker Barrel, going vegan was tough. Think dry toast, or grits without butter or milk. This is not your old hippie cafe across from the university.
It’s just that some of those loyal customers are now threatening to boycott their favorite place, all because they don’t want any of those healthier options (or maybe I should graciously say “less unhealthy”) and implicitly, the people who eat them. Ouch. Some even said that Cracker Barrel had become “woke,” showing how little they understand about the word.
Thus far, Cracker Barrel has held its ground. They have long needed to broaden their appeal, even pre-dating COVID. Their target audience is getting old and cranky, and you have to evolve along with your customers. I did check their beer list, but it is decidedly pedestrian, just the kind of thing I would have expected from Cracker Barrel. It’s a step in the right direction, though, although I was surprised that some of Cracker Barrel’s more churchy customers would be off-put.
But herein lies the gist: No one is making anyone eat these faux sausages, just like no one is making anyone drink beer or wine with their meal. Don’t want it? Don’t order it. Pretty simple.
I’ll be honest. I gave up on Cracker Barrel years ago. I doubt I would ever back, unless they did a serious overhaul of the menu. I don’t care what other people eat, as it is their business. But what I eat is MY business. It probably helps explain why I gravitate toward Thai and Indian restaurants, where I know how things are prepared. And old hippie cafes across from the university. Not my university, mind you, as this is cattle country. But when I am on travel, I also gravitate toward college towns filled with profs and students. They’re my tribe.
It’s just too bad that Cracker Barrel had to see its customers’ real stripes, for they are stripes of self-righteous low-brow snobbery, pride, and intolerance. Turns out those are precisely the kinds of people I really don’t wish to dine with. There is one thing I cannot tolerate, and it is intolerance.
Stand strong, Cracker Barrel. Maybe those people will get over themselves.

Singapore – the tiniest possible city- country, with the fanciest Michelin Star restaurants and rooftop bars with drop dead gorgeous views on the city. However famed for its innumerable hawker centers, where you can find the best, honest, no-frills food. From thirst-quenching fresh fruits to sugar cane juice and the best chicken rice, the hawker centers have it all. Read on to check out the best things must eat when in Singapore.
1. Hainanese Chicken Rice
One of the most satisfying meals – rice cooked in chicken stock, with a side of either steamed chicken or steamed chicken with sticky soy sauce. Absolutely healthy, the soy chicken is much more flavorsome, the best part, however, is the rice cooked in stock. Team with your favourite sauces – try the ginger sauce, more soy, and oyster sauce.
Must have at – Hawker Chan, Chinatown Food Center
Steamed chicken and rice at Lau Pa Sat
Soy chicken and rice at Hawker Chan
2. Laksa
Soupy noodles, prawns, and coconut curry, what’s not to love? Noodles, prawns, occasional addition of oysters and egg, Laksa is a cross between Malay and Chinese cuisine. Cooked in coconut milk, with really huge and juicy sprouts (have not seen these anywhere back home) and lots of chilly. Also tried Laksa without prawns and with tofu and some bread as well, and loved it even more.
Must have at – Original Laksa at Roxy Square
Laksa at 328 Katong Laksa
3. Hokkien Prawn Mei
Stir-fried noodles seasoned with soy sauce, chilly and vinegar, topped with prawns and chilly sauce by the side. This semi gravy noodle dish is most hearty and packs a real punch with the garlic, chilly sauce on the side. De-shell the fresh prawns for this meatilicious affair.
Hokkein mei at Marina Bay Shoppes Food Court
4. Satay
Despite having so many Hawker Centers, there are no hawkers on the street, except for Satay Street. Every evening at 7PM the street next to Lau Pa Sat shuts down to give way to Satay Street. Hawkers come in every day to put up their stalls for some tantalizing Satay. Chicken, mutton, and prawn satay combos with sticky rice cake and the most delicious peanut sauce. Absolutely loved the slightly sweet grilled meats. Best washed down with sugarcane juice.
Must have at – Satay Street
Chicken, mutton and prawn satay, peanut sauce and fresh sugarcane juice
Prawn Satay
Satay Street, Singapore
One for the camera
5. Carrot Cake
One of the most deceptive dishes ever, since you can find no hints of carrots or cake here. An omelette stuffed with steamed, fresh radish cubes giving it a very meaty texture. Carrot cake comes in two flavors, a classic one and one tossed with a lot of black soy. Quite an interesting take on carrot cake, top it with some sauces and you are good to go.
Must try at – Lau Pa Sat
Fried carrot cake – classic and laden with soy
6. Oyster Omelette
Another one of the delicacies of Singapore, fried oysters with eggs and a lot of chilies. On a bed of whole eggs, scrambled egg, fresh oyster, garlic, chilies and topped with fresh coriander. Although I personally did not like the texture of oysters, since it was my first time trying the seafood, oyster lovers must try it.
Must try at – Katong Keah Kee Fried Oysters, Chinatown Food Street
Oyster Omelette at Katong Keah Kee Fried Oysters, Chinatown Food Street
7. Dumplings
Although there are some pretty neat places serving dumplings back home, these were precious. Juicy meat, thin skin, perfectly balanced spices and perfectly steamed, teamed with a chilly oil sauce. I tried these at Lau Pa Sat, and the pork ones were so thinly minced that it didn’t feel like pork at all.
Must try at – Din ta Fung
Pork Sui Mai
8. Kaya Toast set
One of the most popular breakfasts of Singapore – crust cut toast, a thick (like quarter of an inch thick) layer of butter, kaya jam (tasted something like coconut and figs) served with soft boiled eggs and choice of coffee or tea.
Must have at – The Toast Box
Kaya Toast Set, Sentosa Island
9. Ice Kachang
Fans of baraf ka gola back at home, this is especially for you. Finely crushed ice, topped with your favourite flavours and tapioca seeds. Also, don’t forget to try the Mango Sago, crushed mango slush, topped with fresh mango puree, mango chunks and more tapioca. Perfect summer desserts.
Mago Sago Ice Kachang, Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
10. Maggi Goreng
Most popular in Malaysia, maggi goreng is basically fried maggi and one of the most delectable vegetarian options available. Stir fried maggi with vegetables and eggs, is sure to tantalize your tastebuds giving this classic home food.
Must have at – Any Indian/ Muslim food stall
Maggi Goreng
11. Turkish food
Apart from all the excellent Asian delicacies, visit Haji lane for some mind-boggling Turkish food. Tried a fresh Mezze platter with Lavaash bread, excellent hummus but what I loved most was baba ghanoush, a dip Delhi restaurants have failed miserably to get right. Also found the steamed rice rolls quite interesting and ah, the fresh olives.
Must try at – Haji Lane, Arab Street
Mezze Platter at Haji Lane
Honorable mentions include sugarcane juice, fresh fruits everywhere you go (best thirst quenchers) 100 plus energy water and Malaysian food street at Sentosa Island.
