I am taking the "write the stories you want to read" thing to heart because I've had a story living inside me for ages, literally like 20 years at this point, and I couldn't figure out how to tackle it. I recently came up with the idea to write it as the main characters journal (at least to help me figure out to tackle the sequence of events) and honestly, I may just keep it that way, because I really like when stories are told in a way other than the typical novel fashion.

android models #1
──────────────────────────────── Primum-1 The P-1 was probably the very first model of a sentient android.
• Each subsequent version with refinements and changes (note: not including P-2) did not bring significant changes in the appearance of the model.
The stage of android integration into human society began. “We have as many rights as you” - a loud slogan that began to come out of the mouths of primitive robots more and more often.
Who would have thought that the much-discussed artificial intelligence uprising would look... like that?
• Awkward and slow, noisy and clumsy - such were the androids of the 'Primum' line. Every movement was accompanied by the whirring of machinery and parts, and disproportionate body parts stiffened movement. Nowadays, 99.9% of the representatives of the P model have been transferred to more modern models. ──────────────────────────────── Novus Homo-1 (Primum-2)
“We are people too! We are intelligent, we want to be just like you!” - loud voices appeared more and more frequently. Androids were demanding a more realistic, more lifelike shell.
• The debate was fierce, the AI tantrums never ceased, and in short order a new model was developed and released - NH-1, in common parlance - P-2. The symbolic name Novus Homo, it seemed, was to further placate the rebellious layer of society.
• Despite its human appearance, the NH-1's movements were even more stilted than its predecessor. “We want face!” - so they got a face that was as realistic as possible, but alas, looked like a frozen mask. It never moved. The frozen face caused only discomfort, both to those around it, frightening them, and to the androids themselves.
The unnatural color of the skin, slightly greenish, was due to the imperfections of the material, which, in addition to fading, was constantly tearing at the folds of joints and bones. More often than not, the skin material was torn at the fingers, damaging the robot's skeleton itself, disfiguring the phalanges and turning the hands into a useless and terrifying horror.
Knees, elbows - all androids of this model always had torn and chafed skin in these areas, unless, of course, the android had been lying in one immobile position all day.
The model was discontinued very soon, a new solution was needed as soon as possible.

Cicero
Marcus Tullius Cicero was a Roman orator, statesman, and writer. He was born on 6 January 106 BCE at either Arpinum or Sora, 70 miles south-east of Rome, in the Volscian mountains. His father was an affluent eques, and the family was distantly related to Gaius Marius. He is not to be confused with his son (of the same name) or Quintus Tullius Cicero (his younger brother). Cicero died on 7 December 43 BCE, trying to escape Rome by sea.
Early Life & Political Career
Cicero was sent to Rome to study law under the Scaevolas, who were the equivalent Ciceros of their day, and he also studied philosophy under Philo, who had been head of the Academy at Athens and also the stoic Diodotus. However, Cicero's early life was not one that was sheltered behind books and learning, and at the age of 17, he served in the Social War under Pompey the Great's father. It was during this period of political upheaval in Rome, the 80s BCE, that Cicero finished his formal education.
However, that is not to say that Cicero stopped his learnings. In 79 BCE he left Rome for two years abroad, with the aim of improving his health and studying further. In Athens, he was taught by masterful Greek rhetoricians and philosophers, and it was in Athens that he met another Roman student, Titus Pomponius Atticus. Atticus went on to be Cicero's lifelong friend and correspondent. Whilst in Rhodes Cicero went to the famous Posidonius. It was during this time that Cicero married his first wife, Terentia, and after he had returned to Rome in 77 BCE, he was voted quaestor at the minimum age of 30. Things were seemingly progressing quickly, but after having spent his quaestorship at Lilybaeum, he never gladly left Rome again. As such his refusal of provincial governorships led to Cicero concentrating on legal work, through which he prospered both monetarily and politically. A good example of this is the In Verrem, this speech has a message of interest that is relevant to current issues of cultural heritage and war. In 69 BCE Cicero was aedile, and in 66 BCE Cicero became praetor, again, at the minimum age, which was 40.
Between 66 and 63 BCE Cicero's political views became more conservative, especially in contrast to the social reforms being proposed by Julius Caesar, Gaius Antonius, and Catiline. Cicero's success is born by the fact that he received the consulship of 63-62 BCE, once again, at the minimum age (42), and that he was consul prior, the consul who had won by the most votes, and further to this, he was also a novus homo. It was during this time that Cicero successfully exposed the Catilinian revolution, and under the power of the Senatus Consultum Ultimum put to death the revolutionaries who had survived up until that point. This led to Marcus Cato calling Cicero pater patriae, 'father of his country'.

love the idea of mono and crocus disliking one another pre- becoming incredibly devoted to each other. publius crocus' luscious novus homo figure and gorgeous blond cowlick and beautifully agitating politically problematic orations VS senator monotonus nonexistent naturals and garrulous, carping, loquacious nature and irritating brassica monologues. you can tell who has my vote.

Hi, I have a question about Volantis.
The only people who can became Triarchs are the citzens of Volantis with unbroken Valyrian descent, the so called Old Blood, which leads me to believe that both Tiger Triarchs and Elephant Triarchs are form the Old Blood. However, the Tigers defend military conquest, while the Elephants defend a comercial conquest, and it is said that "The Old Blood favored the sword, while the merchants and moneylenders advocated trade."
So, for all of that to make sense, The Elephant party has to be composed of merchants and moneylenders (as well as any other freeborn property owner citzen who agrees with their policy) as well as some of the Old Blood, with the Old Blood members being the only ones allowed to run for office.
If so, do you think that, in the begining, the Elephants were composed only by the merchants and moneylenders, with some of the Old Blood jumping in when they realised the war was lost, or do you think that, for the Elephants to exist as a party in the first place, they needed to have someone from the Old Blood with them from the begining, since this is the only way for them to compete in the election for Triarch?
Sorry for the long question.
Sorry for the delay in answering your excellent question!
I think the elephants always had a leadership drawn from the more forward thinking minority among the Old Blood, similarly to how the Populari faction in the Roman Republic was mostly led by men with populist beliefs who were themselves nobiles (like the Gracchi brothers or Marcus Livius Drusus) more often than they were led by "novus homo" like Gaius Marius.
Keep in mind, the "Old Blood" just means that you can trace your ancestry back to Valyria - and Valyria was not composed entirely of noblemen; it had its merchants and craftsmen and the like. Given that Volantis spent most of its history as a trading outpost of the Valyrian Empire, I imagine that quite a few of the "Old Blood" came from the middling classes of Valyria - especially since it doesn't seem like Volantis had any native dragonlords - rather than the aristocracy.

seriously considering actually participating in both preptober and nanowrimo this year. specifically, i want to actually start on the book that has been living in my head since 2005, Homo Novus. A science fantasy/ modern fantasy story about a post apocalyptic world with people with abilities that has a queer trans man main character, as well as other queer secondary and tertiary characters. (if people want to know more about it, i can go more in depth in another post) thinking this month can be used to world build a bit and do writing prompts based on the characters and in the world of said book. and then next month, instead of pushing myself to write 50k words, just. make an effort to sit down and write every day. maybe set a goal for 500 words a day? At absolute most? I just don't want to put a lot of pressure on myself, but I miss writing a LOT.

Okay so I just watched Megalopolis and I have some thoughts.
SPOILERS FOR MEGALOPOLIS!!
First of all, it is a wonderful movie, I did not get bored for one single second. The plot is consistent, and the characters are really well built up.
But, THE REFERENCES OF THE MOVIE BOTH CLASSICAL AND SHAKESPEAREAN! My god! From the fact that Catiline Caesar actually represents augustus, to the whole Romeo and Juliet romantic plot, to Crassus dressing as Robin Hood for Saturnalia because it is a festivity based on the subversion of roles and Wow Platinum and Clodius as Mark Anthony and Cleopatra towars the end, I could just go on with how this movie shows the work behind its creation.
I don't care about all the terrible feedback it is recieving, this is a good movie that makes the spectator think and question both the past, the present, and the future. It is a piece of art that is creative as hell, and it deserves to be recognized because of how carefully crafted it was.
Bonus points for the character of Cicero being a POC, because in Rome he was considered to be an homo novus (he had no ancestors who had run for the senate or any other magistrature).
