Just read through slurquest and its a fascinating read. One thing I thought of while reading it (even though you didn't really dig into Jack Noir/black stuff) was an experience I had a while back where, in a fit of homestuck nostalgia, I decided to go through and listen through the entire official discography (up to vol 10 that is) in release order. I had a bit of a double take when the very first Toby Fox song in official release order (and in fact predating any of his songs showing up in the comic) is Liquid Negrocity on the Midnight Crew album [/watch?v=r8sBtl3WYZo], which was the song he would later remix to make Black (the song used in Jack: Ascend) [/watch?v=5NACWZBDtN8] and was the origin for Jack Noir's leitmotif. Said double take turned into a full "what the hell is going on" when I got to volume 5 and came across Octoroon Rangoon [/watch?v=mkCprHAqw8w], a song he did that's basically some sort of jrpg boss battle-esque remix of LN (with some of Non Compos Mentis [/watch?v=ANwj8Zm82bA], a song Bill Bolin composed that never got a chance at an official release before his falling out with Hussie).
Now thinking into it further, one noticeable instance in the comic where the motif is used in a non-Jack Noir capacity is Mark Hadley's Blackest Heart [/watch?v=t12NlwsrlAQ] (it's a lot more noticeable if you speed up the song in a way that pitches it up), which ends up being associated with Gamzee (though Hadley's mentioned it was originally envisioned as a Jack song)
Actually notably it seems that Susie's motif in Deltarune [/watch?v=C3klVnJpCFY] seems like a weird off-brand version of the motif? (especially noticeable 53 seconds into Vs. Susie [/watch?v=cGuDpoJNImA])
This isn't really an ask? But yes, the word "octoroon" (also seen in the excerpt of Colonel Sassacre) is an early hint of the story's bizarre racial dynamics. There are a few fleeting moments where Jack's "blackness" could MAYBE be racially loaded -- his failure to recognize Jeff Foxworthy and Bing Crosby could be spun that way, as though whiteness is what made them alien -- but he's honestly not a great example most of the time, afaict.
The phrase "liquid negrocity" is more directly a reference to Problem Sleuth, where Death cries tears of "Black Liquid Sorrow"... but even though Problem Sleuth contains prototypes of much of Homestuck's racial humor, I was never able to parse Death's shtick along racial lines. The skull-headed cherubim come to share Death's love of games (Caliborn) and costume (Calliope's god hood), but they are racially split in a way that doesn't seem to map back onto their predecessor. There's untapped depth in Problem Sleuth though -- only on my last reread did I catch the "honey cooler" joke that explained why the Lazy Susan of Endowment would be in a brothel! So there might be a connection yet
Despite starting Undertale in the aftermath of a race war and setting up the Lightner/Darkner dichotomy for Deltarune, Toby doesn't seem to share Hussie's interest in direct references to irl racial conflict... shrug. This lens was built for Homestuck

I have a Question. The track used on UnderEvent 2022 Trailer, references "Sound Judgement" from Homestuck Vol. 10?
Probably a coincidence, tbh.

Is it weird that I actually kinda like Oo'li (Blue Beetle Vol 10)?
Admittedly, how she's usually drawn and portrayed is pretty cheap (an exotic love interest and plot device, more or less), but what little actual characterization of her and the Horizon as a whole fascinates me.
This is a chick who's probably never been on an actual inhabited planet in her life, who's spent her whole life shouldering the responsibility of being the future leader of their people, and she talks about wanting freedom to explore, to learn about the place she's now living in and all that lives there. Has this girl even seen an animal in person before? I want to see how she reacts to a cat, like, once.
I think I mostly drew this because I don't quite like how she's drawn most of the time; they always make her make the weirdest fucking faces, strike weird and vaguely inappropriate poses, and can't seem to agree on what the fuck she's wearing at any given point in time.
Honestly, I don't ship her with Jaime. Not because I'm super attached to the romantic interpretation of his relationship with the Scarab or any other male/male-presenting character, but because they just don't really have much going on in the actual comic. Oo'li tries putting the moves on him (in her own kinda awkward, unsubtle way that I personally find pretty funny and a little sad), and he just kinda runs off.
Before Issue #8, I thought her attempts at hitting on him were just her way of trying to secure him as a protector of the Horizon. She does spend a lot of her lines pressuring him to protect them, so it would make sense. After that issue, though, it seems a little more personally-inclined.
The way Oo'li talks about romance is interesting, because it implies a few things about Horizon and potentially Reach culture. For one, they don't seem to date - Oo'li talks about it like a foreign concept in #4, and doesn't seem familiar with the typical first date taboos (like making sure the guy actually knows it's a date first, not criticizing his home planet so harshly, not encouraging him to take a life...). Secondly, the way she and Mov talk in #8 implies they don't even marry, but instead "pair-bond."
My headcanon is that, if they do marry, the Horizon have a tendency to arrange marriages for the sake of long term survival. "Survival is everything" to them, after all, and from what little we've seen of their population, it is very small. However, this arranged marriage situation does not hold the expectations of love like it would in most human cultures; instead, that would go to one's pair-bond partner, who one doesn't have kids with but is emotionally bonded with on a deeper level.
Basically I choose to interpret her crush on Jaime as kinda-sorta queerplatonic in nature. I can't imagine an insectoid alien like herself would find a human man attractive physically, and she doesn't express much interest in that manner, but emotionally? Smitten and openly so.
Also, with the Horizon, I'm not sure how I feel about how they're supposed to be insectoid, yet are kinda drawn kinda fleshy but with "gaps" at the joints. I initially thought her legs were leggings when I first saw her design, but no. Personally, I prefer drawing them with segmented bodies, like Homestuck Carapacians (in the one crossover AU, they are the same species by way of weird cosmic convergent evolution).

so a couple days ago I started reading Psycholonials but later on it made me feel rather uneasy so I had to put it down-
before that, I've listened to the OST and like... hm; feels like the music would be easier than the story
tl;dr psycholonials ost (but it also means one should get the albums the songs mostly come from (We Are All Satellites, Namesake, Labyrinth's Heart) rules plus it means you can buy flare (green sun remix) officially, even if it's not on an official Homestuck soundtrack release (which why? like they could've had Vol. 10 Act 2 or something but they didn't do that)
but good god I had no idea the story was biphobic which... yeesh
i wonder if i discussed this once a very long time ago because i have no clue what psycholonials is, but homestuck fanmusic is generally incredible. i cant remember if i said anything about the story but biphobia has no place in my life

🩶, 🎚️ and 🪽
(@/scarecrowbf ^_^)
Oh geez, three at once,, bet
🩶 (Song that reminds you of your f/o)
There's SO many I could say for this, honestly, but I'll have to go with (and highly recommend) Ascending Heaven by Asyndeton!
I have no idea where I first heard this song, but it really stuck with me when I was in school and I would listen to it every day while I read the comic. It's a very comforting song, especially the chorus with the lines 'I'll take away your pain, I'll hold you in my arms' both feels like a selfship thing and also how she treats her friends and all that. She's very stubborn on making sure everyone she loves is safe, going as far as to literally retcon the entire story so they don't have to die.
🎚️ (Album cover that reminds you of your selfship and/or your f/o)
I'm sure there's a lot of really good answers out there that I could say, and I'd love to hear any other ideas, but I'd have to say I'm split between two! There's the album cover for Homestuck Vol. 10 with all the kids meeting up which is awesome (it also has casey!! i love you so much casey), but that feels like too easy of an answer.
My other option would probably be Owl City's Ocean Eyes. I didn't even know this until I googled it, but this album came out in 2009! Just a couple months after Homestuck first started,, neat! I'd choose the deluxe edition of the album cover, the big lettering and white border makes it feel a bit lighter in color compared to the original. And also, the deluxe has a banger remix of Hello, Seattle.
🪽 (Song lyric that makes you think of your f/o and/or selfship)
There are SO many of these I could scream, but I'll stick to two just to keep it simple!
The first one is from Meteor Shower by Cavetown, specifically the line 'I'd sell my own bones for sapphire stones, 'cause blue is your favorite color.'
I'm not even really sure if blue is her favorite color? I'm pretty sure it is, but there's some hot debate in the fandom about it being either blue or green. I'm on team blue because literally everything is blue except her original shirt and things based off it, which is just Slimer from Ghostbusters,, who is green,,,
But yeah, I think she'd look really pretty in sapphires, now that I think about it,,,
The other song is It Only Takes A Moment from the Hello, Dolly soundtrack!
This song stuck with me ever since I was a little kid, my favorite movie has always been Wall-E lol,, but the lyric for this song is 'Your heart knows in a moment, you will never be alone again.'
I'm not sure why I have it superglued onto June in my head, but the delivery of the line sounds so full of adoration and acceptance, it makes me feel that kinda way, you know? You can just hear the love in his voice, throughout the whole song but especially in this line.
Thank you so much for the ask!! It means the world to me, hehe,, I'm excited to see your responses too! ❤️❤️

this past week i house/pet sat for my family in exchange for a new music station fjdbdkdn aka just this table. the way it was before, it was just so many steps to get a record out to play but now.... its so much more accessible 😳
while im at it, theres close ups of the music collection. im starting to make ... bootleg copies of albums that never had physical releases just so i can start to have all the music i like in just a physical form.
rn my "goals" if you wanna call them that are to find the following below the cut:
the DISO:
- tsw*ft - folklore "stolen lullabies" variant (my tears ricochet is one of my all time favorite songs now so.. also its the perfect shade of green)
- aly&aj - sanctuary vol.1 (i missed the cut off by like a month for this one and its my all time dream record. one of my favorite all time albums and this is the only official physical release)
- twrp - omnibus (record collection of all their eps.... beautiful)
the "eh ill get them for a good deal" list:
- tsw*ft - fearless tv and red tv cds. speak now tv vinyl
- florence - literally anything i dont already have for her....
- marina - froot singles collection (or holding out hopes for an anniversary set next year), family jewels vinyl
- literally any aly&aj cds im missing (atotb and wlf i think? maybe some editions of 10 yrs and sanctuary too)
- missing twrp cds too... i couldnt afford digital nightmare during preorders :(
the burning list:
-all of the homestuck music lol
#the hoard#FUCK theres so much music i want to own physically#im listening to shadow academy rn and dreaming about them too

Cloutchase Vol. 1 review:
Gameplay: if you love Pesterquest and Friendsim, you would certainly love this.
Story: I like how Twitter put a gun to User's head (rest assured I will also have a gun to fight back... If I can't live, neither can he)
Music: worth the 4.13 US dollars (same as what I paid for an actual Homestuck album)
Art: I have never thought of Tumblr as a cringefail more than I have now
Possible improvement: It's a tall ask (almost literally), but it is a bit annoying seeing black bars when you play with a 16:10 display, I get most games are made for 16:9, but still.
Overall: 10/10, would play Vol. 2
