Oregon [usa] has been shutting down small farms and market gardens in a pretty aggressive manner. They're even resorting to sending out cease and desist letters to these farms, using satellite tech to track them down first. Their justification? Water conservation and protecting groundwater. They're wielding two laws in particular to make this happen.

My kid's school board is patting themselves on the back for lowering the millage rate for the first time in decades while still providing teacher raises (sorely needed raises, I fully support this!).
AND YET.
I have a permission form on my desk right now that says the performing arts program is funded 100% through parent donations, and would I be so kind as to donate money to allow my child to see a production of the goddamn Nutcracker. Also, would I be so kind as to donate extra money for those who can't afford the recommended donation?
(To be clear, this is not like the drama program at a high school, this is just, we would like to take your elementary kid to see the highschool orchestra play or bring a kid-friendly theater production to perform at the school).
My god, raise the millage rate so we can have educational experiences that don't take place behind a desk. Raise the millage rate so I don't have to deal with eight thousand microtransactions donation requests for my kid to have a well-rounded education.
Field trips, yes! Take my kid to a farm so she can pet a goat and smell fresh air. Take my kid to a planetarium, a museum, a public garden. Help me expose my kid to as many different ideas as possible.
This is the village, [Redacted] School Board. You are part of my village now, as mandated by the state. Help me educate my kid.
#honestly school funding based on property taxes is fucking bullshit#we also have homestead property exemptions where ppl over 65yo don't have to pay school taxes 🙃#and guess what keeps popping up all over the place?#$500k+ neighborhoods and apt complexes that are for 55+#the boomers are coming the boomers are coming#i will never understand why people grouse about paying county-level taxes#THESE TAXES FUND SCHOOLS AND THE FIRE DEPT AND PARKS AND ELECTIONS AND THE PPL WHO FIX THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS STUCK ON THE RED LEFT TURN ARROW#god i am spicy on this wednesday morning

With the election results I'm not even sad. I'm pissed. It's a pool of anger. Anger at the shit Democratic party. Anger at the fascist scum who voted for trump. Anger at this fucked up state. Florida failed to pass right to abortion with a 57.2% yes vote. The bar was at 60% because this state is a fucked up little dictatorship. The only shot we could pass was the "right to hunt" that will strip what few environmental regulatory agencies to the bone in order to enshrine hunting and fishing as the primary method of controlling animal population. You can't kill your way into a population recovery. The only other amendment that passed was raising the homestead exemption. Because all this fucking hellhole of a state cares about are property values. Property values in a state that is already being torn apart by climate change.
I will live. If only by the anger burning in my heart, but I will live. Organize, help your community. We will make it through this, but we have to make it through this together. Do not give in to despair. We have to fight for a better tomorrow.

good lord once you get to a certain point in life it really is worth it to just hire a tax preparer. I don't even have a complicated return, I just need someone to hold my hand through such compelling questions as "does the homestead exemption apply to me" and "what the fuck is going on with my locality code (neither of us have heard of it) (I'm not insane that's just a really weird locality)"

Neptune in Pisces – the "end times", fear mongering, and right-wing hysteria
Back in 2012, Neptune entered Pisces just in time for the 2012 phenomena; a cultural conspiracy movement which believed the world would come to an end in 2012. During the time of the 2007-2009 recession, the percentage of Americans who were unemployment doubled. Poor economic circumstances lead to more Americans attending church and we are seeing similar patterns today as inflation and rent prices continue to rise in the US.
Neptune is currently in the late degrees of pisces, and as Neptune closes out this cycle, we are collectively frustrated and disillusioned with our current systems. It is no surprise to me that with the rise in popularity of new age spirituality during the pandemic of the early 2020's came this movement of evangelicals as we are seeing today.
The homesteading community has sent my girlfriend and I straight down the conservative pipeline on both Tiktok and Instagram. With this has come a slue of videos outcrying about how we are in the end times -- a young man is close to tears as he describes a Canadian law that would "put Christians in jail for quoting the Bible" and that is was proof of the supposed end times. What this young man described was the proposed Bill C-367, "currently under review in the House of Commons, would repeal “religious exemption” in Section 319 of the Canadian Criminal Code, which critics say could open up Christians and other religious groups to “hate speech” charges over any comments or criticisms of the LGBT movement."
Jupiter and Uranus are currently conjunct in the sign of Taurus right now. The divide between the far left and the far right, the rich and the poor, and the privileged and underprivileged, has never been more palpable, and tensions are high. The two planets will exact one another around April 21st 2024, I expect some major world news/events to take place, perhaps an increase in protests.
Saturn is also in pisces. This week, the NYC governor declared a state of emergency and called in the national guard to patrol subway stations for vague and unclear reasons. This has lead many to speculate about what this could mean and understandably there is a lot of fear.
Overall: Loss of faith (neptune, pisces) in existing systems, structures and institutions (saturn) leading to belief in a higher power.
Confusing, vague circumstances surrounding security. Conspiracies surrounding homeland security. Our institutions and government systems (saturn) are lacking clear definitions and boundaries (pisces). Boundaryless authority (saturn pisces). Fear (saturn) of the unknown (pisces).

Divested Black women are falling into a trap. While society wants you to focus on debating about going 50/50 with males or getting into twitter debates about interracial dating, you as a black woman have more important things to worry about. It’s great to see black girls previously robbed of their girlhood reclaiming their natural femininity, however there is more to be concerned about. Divestment is not about males or how cute you can be, but self preservation as a priority. Look past the hyper-sexualizing and demoralizing attempted propaganda. Look past your childhood brainwashing and abuse to internalize the Jezebel and Mammy stereotypes. Stop defending and protecting everyone except for yourself. Stop worshiping males in attempts to gain romantic responses and respect. Pay attention to what really matters. Black Americans will soon have a net worth of $0 as the global economic depression and food shortage gets closer. Our “communities” are the primary target for all things struggle so migrants will be housed where you live, crime will sky rocket, and income/economic opportunities will deplete. Suburban black women are not exempt from this. The vast majority of black girls are not entering recession proof career fields. It’s important that black women are multi tasking everyday life while preparing for the future because 99% are not informed or prepared. It doesn’t have to be alone when there are likeminded black girls and women out there :)

New Henford slowly wakes up after a long winter in Spring 1854.
In the three years since the werebeast crisis, the residents of the O'Malley farm have worked relentlessly to keep the precarious peace between the pack and the townspeople, always making sure that both sides have to compromise equally.
Everyone prospers and even though New Henford never officially abolished their anti-werewolf laws, they exempted first Reed the “werewolf ambassador” from them as a form of diplomatic immunity and eventually extended that to the whole pack.
One day the former bounty hunters appeared at a fair in New Henford and entered a giant salad as well as a cherry pie into the competition.
Apparently they had turned to other endeavours now that werebeast hunting was out of the picture. Maybe they had never hated or disdained their prey in the first place and just been in this job for the money?
With that settled, the O’Malleys (and their neighbors) can now focus on the upcoming lot evaluation, that will decide who will be allowed to keep their gifted land and who has to move on.
Everyone is working hard. Quite honestly, though? Not even Todd Williams, the laziest of the newly minted homesteaders, is in serious danger of not passing the assessment.
At the moment things are calm.
The biggest event the locals look forward to (aside from the evalutation) is this: At the Chapman farm the maple tree Hank has planted will give the first harvest of syrup this spring!

I work in taxes, so I'm used to my job being way too fucking boring to talk about, but LGBTQIA+ Texans, heads up, because things have gotten interesting in the worst way - tax law taking aim at excluding our marriages.
House Bill 2889 wants the tax code around homestead exemptions brought down to only straight non-divorced couples. Then it goes further and says the more kids you have, the bigger your tax discount. Enjoy ten kids and no tax burden if you're a straight couple!
This legislative session is fucking serious, with blatantly anti-trans bills all over the place, but the big center stage bills aren't the only ones aiming for us. The radical right wing agenda of hatred toward women and LGBTQIA+ folks is seeping into all the bills wherever they can get away with it.
