I Wanna Be Yours - Chapter 1
Pairing: Sylus X Reader
Words: 4.8K
- - -
Tasked with infiltrating the life of Sylus, the most wanted man in the N109 zone, you're torn between what is right and feels right, blurring the line between duty and desire. As danger escalates, you must decide whether to carry out your mission or succumb to the magnetic pull of the man you're meant to destroy. In this game of power and obsession, betrayal could cost you everything.
Content warnings ⚠️
Dark Themes, Yandere! Reader and Yandere! Sylus! Power play. Violence and Gore. Smut (in later chapters). Stalking/surveillance. Reader slowly losing her mind maybe. Sylus being hot and a menace.
If you feel there’s any other warnings I need to add then please reach out and let me know!
You’d woken up early- too early. Anticipation buzzed in your veins leaving your mind reeling and falling back asleep impossible. The entire team had felt it. Something big was in the works.
Captain Jenna had pulled you aside before you left work the night before. “Y/N, come and see me first thing tomorrow morning. I’ve got new mission details to discuss.” Her tone was commanding. This wasn’t a favourit was an order, and orders like these, given late at night with no one around, usually meant trouble.
So you’d woken up early, made some breakfast, and finished your morning workout, all before the sun had even risen. You were absolutely going to regret this later when you were struggling to stay awake at your desk.
The dim glow of the tactical display flickered across the room, casting shadows along the walls. You sat across from Captain Jenna, her eyes sharp and assessing as usual, the weight of authority resting heavily on her shoulders. This wasn’t your first mission briefing, but something about this one felt different- heavier- more dangerous.
Jenna leaned back in her chair, a small datapad in her hand, swiping through it with deliberate motions. "The N109 zone," she began, not looking up.”What do you know about it?”
“Ermm, not much. I’ve heard rumours, of course and read about it but I’ve not had any first-hand experience,” You replied, confused by the line of questioning.
Jenna continued, "It’s a place where most don’t survive long, especially outsiders. You’ve been recommended for a mission there, but I need to know you understand what you’re walking into."
Your fingers twitched in your lap. "I’ve read the reports. I think I understand how it all works out there."
"Reports don’t do it justice." Her voice was clipped, leaving no room for debate. She tapped a button on the pad, and a holographic image of the N109 zone projected into the air between you. The image showed sprawling clusters of decrepit structures and seedy underground hubs. It looked almost abandoned but you knew from the reports that the N109 zone was far from empty. "The N109 zone is a black market for mercenaries, smugglers, and all types of criminals. At the centre of it all, is one man, controlling the whole thing. The N109 zone’s very own king, Sylus Qin."
Your stomach tightened at the mention of his name. Everyone in the association knew of Sylus, but few had seen him in person. His reputation preceded him: cold, ruthless, and always five steps ahead of his enemies. He’d been the reason for countless operations that turned south and why some hunters categorically refused to even enter the N109 zone.
Captain Jenna finally looked up from her pad, her gaze calculating. “The higher-ups have requested that you take on the mission to bring him to justice- finally. I personally recommended you for the job and my petition was accepted.”
Sylus, the most dangerous and infamous criminal in the N109 zone, known for being a manipulative and ruthless leader. And you were meant to capture him. The shock was clear on your face.
Jenna switched off the projection and fixed you with a steely gaze. "This is a high-stakes operation. The Hunter’s Association has been trying to bring Sylus in for years, but he’s too careful. He doesn’t make mistakes. He keeps his allies close and his enemies firmly in check. No one’s managed to get near him. We need you to do what others couldn’t- get close, make him trust you enough to come willingly." She pauses, letting the weight of her words settle. "And then, you will bring him to us. Quietly."
You blinked, the enormity of the task settling like a lead weight in your chest. "And then what? We arrest him?"
"Exactly. Once you have his trust, you’ll lead him to the extraction point, where other hunters will take over. Sylus has committed too many atrocities- smuggling, trafficking, assassinations. He needs to face justice. But if he even suspects for a second that you’re a threat, this mission will end in your death. Sylus doesn’t forgive betrayal."
A cold knot of apprehension twisted in your gut. "I’ve never operated in the N109 zone before. I know what people say about it…"
Jenna tapped the table, cutting through your uncertainty with her no-nonsense tone. "You were selected because of your history. You’re adaptable. You’ve been at the HA for a long time, and never failed in a covert mission and that’s been noticed. But understand this, this isn’t just about gathering intel, it’s about infiltrating his inner circle, making him believe he can trust you."
Her words hung heavy in the air, each one pressing against your already fraying nerves. "He’s known for reading people. How am I supposed to fool him?"
Jenna didn’t smile, but her eyes softened- just a touch. "You’ll have to earn his trust, slowly. Get into his good graces by being useful. You’ve got…skills he needs. Play into that. But be warned…" She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a quiet, ominous tone. "Sylus is like no one you’ve faced before. He’s calculated, ruthless. If you slip up, even for a second, he’ll see through you. Use your wits… and if needed, your feminine wile” She trailed off, the insinuation heavy in the air.
A chill ran down your spine. You’ve heard the stories—how Sylus has taken down entire syndicates without lifting a finger, how he can dismantle a person with just his words, let alone the brutal efficiency with which he handles his enemies. The thought of trying to seduce him was almost laughable—and terrifying.
"And the Association is sure this will work?" you asked, your voice a little thinner than you intended.
Jenna narrowed her gaze, her lips pressed into a hard line. "No. But it’s the best chance we’ve got. The truth is, Sylus is too dangerous to let his network grow any further. The higher-ups have made it clear—they’d prefer him alive. Alive and arrested. If you succeed, this will be the biggest takedown in recent history. You’d be rewarded of course.” Her implication is clear, the promotion you'd been after for years.
You nodded, though your mind swirled with doubt. "And if I fail?"
"You won’t." The steel in her voice was unyielding. "Failure isn’t an option. Sylus doesn’t give second chances, and neither do we. We’ll provide your equipment and, when the time is right, we have an alias waiting for you"
The silence that followed is suffocating, the gravity of the mission pressing down on you. For a moment, you questioned whether you were truly ready for this—whether anyone could be. But then the adrenaline kicked in, and stirred something inside you - a challenge.
"I understand." You managed to say, your voice firmer than before.
Jenna stood, motioning toward the door, her expression softening just a fraction. "Your mission begins tomorrow. Prepare yourself. You’ll be alone in the field, and once you’re in his world, there’s no turning back."
You rose from your chair, nerves and determination churning inside you. "I’ll bring him in."
Jenna’s eyes lingered on you for a moment longer before she nodded. "See that you do."
As you walked out of the room, your mind spun with the weight of the task ahead. Sylus wasn’t just a target; he was the most dangerous man you’d ever been assigned. And now, you were supposed to deceive him, to lead him into a trap- you couldn’t afford a single mistake.
The dim glow of neon lights and the low hum of music created a relaxed atmosphere in the small bar you and your colleagues gathered. It was a spot you’d claimed long ago after gruelling days of training or missions, a place for deepspace hunters to unwind.
Tara draped her arm around your shoulder, a drink in her hand, and a mischievous smile tugging at her lips. She pulled you in tight and whispered in your ear excitedly "Y/N, you’re going after Sylus freakin’ Qin! I still can’t believe it." she whispered his name even quieter, as if saying it too loudly would summon him or something.
You let out a laugh, though it felt a little forced. "I’m not even sure why they picked me for this." It was true- despite Jenna’s recommendation, there were many, more experienced, higher-level hunters that had been put forward. So, why you?
Tara gave you a playful shove. "Are you kidding? You're a total badass! If anyone can take on that zone and come out alive, it’s you." She wiggled her eyebrows. "Besides, I heard Sylus is ridiculously hot. I swear, if you get up close and personal, you better tell me everything."
Xavier flashed you a horrified glance as you rolled your eyes, feeling part of the tension start to loosen and another begin to build. "It’s not like that, Tara."
"Oh, but it could be!" She leaned in closer, dropping her voice to a teasing whisper. "Dangerous, brooding, probably smells like gunpowder and leather…"
"Please." You cut her off, shaking your head, but the smile on your face grows a little wider and you allow yourself a slight giggle. Tara had always known how to make light of things, even dangerous missions. It’s one of the reasons you’ve been close for so long—she knew how to distract you when you started overthinking.
Xavier’s voice cut through the banter, calm but carrying a note of something unspoken. "Just… be careful." He sat across from you, nursing his drink, his eyes more focused on the table than the conversation. "The N109 zone isn’t like your other missions. You won’t have backup, and Sylus… he’s a different kind of threat."
You glanced at him, feeling the weight of his concern. Xavier had always been protective, but something about his tone made you shift uneasily in your seat. "I know. I’ll be fine. Captain Jenna wouldn’t have assigned me if she didn’t think I could handle it."
Tara leaned back in her chair, rolling her eyes at Xavier. "Please, Xavier. She’s not a rookie. Y/N’s a big girl; she can take care of herself. Besides, she’s not going to let some psycho in a leather coat throw her off her game, no matter how hot he is."
You chuckled, but Xavier’s frown deepened. "I just don’t like the idea of you going in alone. I’d feel better if you had some sort of backup."
You sighed, stirring the drink in front of you. "It’s a solo mission, Xav. That’s part of the deal. I’m supposed to gain his trust, remember? How can I do that with you hovering around or Tara creaming herself at the mere sight of him?" You tried to lighten the mood, but Xavier’s expression didn’t change.
Tara piped up again, grinning mischievously. "Gaining his trust… that’s one way to put it." She started humming a tune under her breath, a playful glint in her eyes. "Mama, I’m in love with a criminal…"
You laughed, shaking your head as Tara continued, her voice light and teasing. The absurdity of the moment felt like a balm to your nerves, even if the reality of the mission loomed large.
But Xavier wasn’t amused. His gaze flicked from Tara back to you, softer now, tinged with something deeper than concern. "Just… don’t do anything reckless, okay?"
You met his eyes, the weight of his words hanging between you. He’d always been this way- cautious, protective, lingering on the edge of something he could never quite say. As much as you appreciated it, part of you bristled at the overprotectiveness.
"I won’t," you replied, keeping your tone light despite the pressure of his gaze on you.
Tara, blissfully unaware of the tension, clinked her glass against yours. "Cheers to Y/N! Bringing down the most wanted, sexy criminal in the galaxy- and living to tell the tale!"
You shook your head again, but this time, the laugh was genuine. "You’re impossible."
"Someone has to keep things fun around here," she quipped, leaning back in her chair with a wide grin.
The conversation shifted, drifting away from the seriousness of the mission, and for a while, you let yourself get swept up in the celebration. But even as laughter and banter filled the air, you couldn’t shake the undercurrent of doubt creeping back in. Why had Captain Jenna really picked you? You weren’t the most experienced hunter. Others had more field time in the N109 zone and more reason to be chosen.
You glanced over at Xavier again, once again, finding his eyes already fixed on you. There was something unsaid there, a worry that ran deeper than his words, it made you uncomfortable.
"I’ll be fine," you said again, quieter this time, almost like you were trying to convince yourself as much as him.
Xavier’s lips pressed into a thin line, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he raised his glass, his voice soft. "To your success. And your safety."
Tara beamed, still blissfully unaware of the weight in the air. "To Y/N! Who’s gonna take down the galaxy’s hottest criminal!"
Your first day in the N109 zone was, frankly, a disaster. The moment you crossed into the district, a wave of unease washed over you. The air felt different here- thicker, charged with tension and unspoken danger. Street lights flickered erratically, casting shadows that seemed to writhe and pulse with a life of their own, and the sun barely peaked over the horizon, never fully rising. You reminded yourself of your mission: track Sylus, gain his trust, and bring him into the Hunter's Association. But as you navigated the winding streets, the sensation of being in over your head clung to you
You pulled up a map on your Hunter’s watch, the holographic display glowing dimly in the murky light as you tried to identify potential leads. Information flowed like a murky river in the N109 zone, and every face you passed felt like a mask hiding something sinister. The first few contacts you attempted to make led nowhere - dead ends that plunged you deeper into the seedy underbelly of the district, where conversations were laced with hostility and suspicion.
“Hey, you new around here?” a rough-looking man asked, eyeing you as you lingered outside a dilapidated bar. His crooked smile didn’t reach his eyes and you felt the weight of his scrutiny. “You’ll need a better look if you want to fit in.” You glanced down at yourself-, he wasn't wrong. You stood out like a sore thumb in your Hunter’s uniform. Starting tomorrow, you’d dress like the locals- mostly in all black, blending into the shadows like everyone else.
“Just looking for some information on Sylus Qin,” you replied, trying to sound confident. But the moment his name left your lips, the man’s demeanour shifted. He narrowed his eyes, a flicker of fear or respect—or maybe both—crossing his features.
“Not the guy you wanna be messin’ with, sweetheart. Best steer clear,” he muttered before turning his back on you without another word. Frustration welled up inside you. This wasn’t going as planned. You didn’t want word spreading about your interest in Sylus.
As the day dragged on, you found yourself moving from one low-lit alley to another, encountering rejection and hostility at every turn. Everyone seemed to know Sylus’s name but was too terrified to speak it, leaving you grasping at shadows and feeling increasingly isolated. By the time night fell, the streets became more dangerous, and you decided it was best to retreat to your apartment back in Linkon.
Back home, you leaned against the wall, staring at your watch’s interface. The gravity of the mission settled heavily on your shoulders, and doubt crept in like a thief in the night. You realised that the darkness of the N109 zone was not just a backdrop- it was an entity that clung to you, whispering of your inexperience and vulnerability.
But as the days passed, a strange familiarity began to weave itself into your routine. You watched, listened, adapted. The subtle nuances of the district’s unspoken rules and underhanded dealings started to reveal themselves, and slowly, you learned how to navigate the complexities of the N109 zone. You began to blend in just enough to draw a few passing glances without arousing suspicion.
Your investigative instincts sharpened. You found yourself in beat-up cafés, observing patrons exchanging furtive glances over steaming cups of synthetic coffee, their conversations laced with veiled references to Sylus’s dealings. You overheard whispers of shipments, meetings, and finally- a location that sent your heart racing.
“It’s near the old foundry,” a waitress mentioned to a customer, her voice barely above a whisper. “He runs things from a compound, in one of the old stately homes. He keeps to himself mostly, but you can’t miss it. Just follow the road past the southern docks.”
A rush of determination flooded through you. Finally, a lead! You wasted no time; your heart thrumming with a mix of fear and exhilaration. The thought of finding Sylus’s estate ignited a spark of hope, propelling you forward. As you gathered your gear, you reminded yourself of your purpose. The apprehension from your first day still lingered, but now it was laced with a newfound resolve.
With every step deeper into the N109 zone, you embraced the danger. You were learning, adapting, and slowly becoming part of the intricate tapestry of shadows and light that defined this place. And for better or worse, you were closer than ever to the man who would challenge everything you thought you knew.
The lady had been right—you found the estate with relative ease. It was impossible to miss. The manor, though clearly built long ago, had been restored to near-new condition, standing stark against its dilapidated surroundings. This was Sylus Qin’s home—his base of operations as the head of Onychinus.
The first day you caught sight of him, was the day you knew this mission would be even harder than you were led to believe but for entirely the wrong reasons.
Your breath caught in your throat, and for a moment, it was hard to remember why you were there. He was standing in front of a nearby building, the black blazer hanging loosely over his broad shoulders, his silver hair falling in dishevelled strands across his face. His red eyes scanned his surroundings like he owned the place—like there was nothing in the galaxy that could challenge him.
He was tall, too tall maybe, with that unfair kind of height that made him even more intimidating than the average person. But it wasn’t just his height. No, it was the way his body seemed to move—fluid and calculated, each step made with a deliberate grace that told you he knew exactly how dangerous he was. As did the people around him, whose gaze drifted to him subconsciously as he entered a room, commanding their attention.
Your gaze betrayed you, drifting down to his arms, the way his dress shirt clung to his biceps. His build was...distracting, to say the least. Muscular, broad chest, narrow waist, the sharp V-line of his torso that drew your attention a little too much. It was like he’d been sculpted by someone who thought it would be a fun idea to make a man too attractive for his own good. You cursed yourself for lingering.
Then there were his hands. Strong, elegant fingers, the kind you could imagine tracing patterns on the most sensitive parts of your body. You shook the thought away, appalled at how easily your mind wandered. His hands, as beautiful as they were, had more blood on them than you could count. There was nothing innocent about them.
Still, your eyes found their way back to his face, the sharp angles of his jaw, the slight scruff that only added to his rugged charm. And his lips—damn, his lips. Full and soft-looking, the kind of lips that would make anyone wonder what they’d feel like against theirs. You swallowed, cursing the heat that rose in your cheeks.
You had a job to do. You couldn’t afford to think like that.
But there was something about Sylus that made you uneasy beyond his reputation. It wasn’t just his appearance, though that was enough to send your heart racing if you stared too long. It was the way he carried himself, the subtle confidence that came with being untouchable. He was a man who could ruin you in more ways than one, and you knew it.
And yet, here you were, watching him, trying to make sense of the strange feeling gnawing at you.
Attraction? Fear? A little bit of both?
Whatever it was, it didn’t matter. You couldn’t afford to get distracted. Sylus was dangerous. You knew that. But that didn’t stop you from thinking about him just a little too much, wondering if the same hands that could kill with such ease might feel different in other situations.
You found yourself thinking about Tara’s remarks. She would have a field day when you told her just how attractive he was. Something inside you bristed at the thought of Tara drooling after him, a nasty part of you felt compelled to slap her inevitable shit eating grin.
Every day, Sylus seemed to do something that contradicted his brutal reputation. Like he pulled up in a sleek black Bentley, only to open the trunk and haul out dozens of tins of tuna. He’d carried them into a dimly lit alley, where a cluster of stray cats eagerly waited their meal. You couldn’t help but smile, your heart softening at the sight. This was the most wanted criminal in deepspace? It was confusing- almost laughable. Captain Jenna’s warnings echoed in your mind, but they felt distant, like the wisp of a memory half-remembered. You watched intently, noticing the gentleness of his hands as he stroked one of the cats. The way his fingers curled and caressed the soft ear of the feline. You watched, meticulously.
Days later, you saw him stop outside a small, rundown school. A group of children played in the dust, their laughter filling the air like a melody. Sylus approached the headmaster, handing him an envelope. You couldn't hear their conversation, but you saw the gratitude in the man’s eyes as he accepted the donation. You noted it down. Sylus was supporting the struggling school’s program. This moment—so starkly contrasting with the image of a ruthless criminal—made you question everything.
Your fascination deepened as you watched Sylus conduct meetings with an array of characters—men in suits, tattooed individuals, all laughing and shaking hands. Nothing appeared violent or suspicious. The disconnect between your observations and the brutal image painted by others became more unsettling by the day.
Following him on foot was another failure—his long strides and confidence made it impossible to keep up. Frustrated, you abandoned the idea and focused on your surveillance equipment, your lifeline. But it was also the tether that forced you to confront the growing complexity of your feelings for him.
Then, everything changed.
It was a quiet afternoon, the kind that seemed to lull the world into a false sense of security. You adjusted your viewing angle, your heart fluttering as you caught a glimpse of him in the warehouse, not far from his estate. Situated high in the rafters. You'd gotten there early, armed with intel on the meeting place.
The scene unfolded like a twisted play- goods exchanged, a casual meeting that quickly turned dark. Sylus stood across from Matthew Halbard and his associates. The deal should have been straightforward, he was buying protocores, altered, high-grade and rare components that would help strengthen his position in the N109 zone, Onychinus’s position. But tension hung in the air like a thick fog, and you could feel it even from your hidden position. Halbard’s eyes flicked with something dangerous, and your instincts told you things were about to go sideways.
The negotiation soured fast. You leaned in closer, your pulse quickening as you realised they intended to con Sylus. A betrayal. They’d planned to catch him off guard, take him out, and claim Onychinus for themselves. 'Cowards,' you thought. The idea of ambushing him, waiting for him to be alone, gnawed at you.
The tension in the air grew and the conversation escalated, Halbard’s face grew more smug and his men seemed to be dripping with anticipation. You watched Sylus closely. His expression remained neutral, predatory even, though you could see the faint tightening of his jaw. It was the only sign of the storm brewing beneath his composed exterior. The sight sent a chill down your spine—the way he moved, the subtle aligning of his hips and rolling of his shoulders, was fluid, like a man who anticipated violence.
Then it happened. In a split second, Halbard’s men drew their weapons. Panic rushed through you, your breath catching. Sylus, however, didn't even flinch. Instead, he smiled—a slow, chilling grin that sent a jolt of fear straight through your core. Gunfire erupted, splitting the air like thunder, but Sylus became the storm instead.
You watched in horror, your heart pounding rapidly in your chest, as he dismantled their attack with brutal efficiency, each movement deliberate and lethal. He was a force of nature, dispatching them with the same efficiency you’d seen him use while feeding stray cats - calm, casual, and unnervingly composed. The contrast between those two versions of him - the killer and the caretaker - left you reeling.
His Evol sliced through the air with deadly accuracy. Every strike was purposeful, no movement wasted. You watched in stunned horror as Sylus tortured the men before deciding, with terrifying calm, who deserved to die. The executions were brutal, calculated, each one more grotesque than the last. You wanted to look away, but couldn’t. Every death was horrific, yet undeniably earned. The men had underestimated him, and so, it seemed, had you.
Your stomach churned. The Sylus you’d observed over the last few weeks, the one who laughed over coffee and donated money to local schools, had vanished, replaced by a monster who shed blood as easily as breathing. It left you unsettled, blindsided by the jarring reality. How could this be the same person? You’d let your guard down, allowed yourself to see him through a softer lens, and now it felt like the ground had shifted beneath you.
As the dust settled and the echoes of violence faded, you remained hidden in the rafters frozen in place, your breath coming out in shallow gasps. Sylus scanned the warehouse, his sharp gaze sweeping the area. For a moment, it seemed as though he sensed something out of place. You stayed perfectly still, hoping he hadn’t detected your presence.
With a subtle flick of his wrist, Sylus sent a command to Mephisto, the mechanical crow perched nearby, its cameras whirring softly. “Keep an eye on that one,” he murmured, an amused smirk curling his lips. “Let’s see what she does next.”
Back in your apartment, the images of Sylus in the warehouse played on a loop in your mind, an inescapable storm of conflicting thoughts. You paced, trying to dispel the visions, but they clung to you. The Sylus you'd been watching- the one you'd begun to romanticise- was gone, replaced by the merciless killer from the warehouse.
You sighed, running a hand through your hair, trying to calm your racing pulse. Your training kicked in, helping you focus in the quiet darkness of your apartment. That was when you noticed it. A large bird perched on the edge of your balcony, its beady eyes fixed on you. It moved with an eerie smoothness, almost unnatural. You squinted, trying to place the species. It looked like a strange hybrid between a crow and a raven, but something about it felt… off.
You shook your head. “What a strange bird…” you muttered.
Unbeknownst to you, Sylus smiled to himself. “Mephisto,” He chuckled, a spark of amusement lighting his carmine eyes as he leaned back in his chair, watching the live feed from the mechanical crow. The bird let out a soft caw.
“Let’s tone down your surveillance skills a bit,” Sylus chuckled softly. “We don’t want her feeling too watched, now.”
Mephisto ruffled his dark feathers in response, a silent display of sass that didn’t go unnoticed. The way the bird shifted its stance on the balcony almost seemed to say, Good luck with that, master.
Sylus’s gaze lingered on the flickering lights of the live feed as he leaned back, contemplating his next move. He was excited. The thrill of watching you navigate this game filled him with anticipation."Let the little bird think she's in control," he mused aloud, a slow grin forming. "It makes things more interesting.”
I hope you enjoyed chapter 1! Please let me know what you think ♥️ reach out. Let’s talk! 🌹

I wanna imagine that the cards are a real thing in-universe. Like, the brothers, royals, Solomon and Thirteen all get put into a trading card game just because they’re all very popular individuals with their own fanbases Everyone’s card art is a little different from their actuall looks bc the actual people aren’t involved in the art production, so everone gets washboard abs and clear skin. It’d also be considered defamation of any of them are portrayed with a single blemish lol.
Of course Asmo collects ONLY his own cards and MC’s cards, even if some of them look off. “This one’s hair is too brunette but I love the SHINE they put in my lipgloss!” Or something silly like that. They go into a photo album binder where he gets other pieces of fanart.
Leviathan collects SO many card and knows the rules and decimates everyone at the games, but he absolutely refuses to collect his own cards. “Can you imagine if I played my own card as if I were actually cool? Like I had those powers, or l-looked as dashing a-as they portray me?? None of my cards would actually be good?? I’m JuSt An OtAkU??” Never plays the holographics of MC. Those get framed but never displayed. (MC finds them and they do the same to him since they both avoid their own cards. In fact they do a daily dropoff where if there’s an envelope under their door they can usually expect it to be the others’ cards.) He’s also a master of making different decks, like he has a deck for every sin, every person, etc. The Royals+Angels deck and the Envy deck are his favourite ones.
Mammon thrives on the Devildom TCG market. Rare cards go for a ton of Grimm! And also you wanna know why he keeps trying to sell pics of Lucifer, right? He knows one of the official card artists. “This was the outfit this card was based on, yeah? Here’s the followup of him rolling his sleeves and loosening his tie! And I bet you’re gonna love THIS one! Nobody can ever seem to get his angry smile just right until they see it in person, but this picture comes pretty close. Doesn’t it give you shivers? I can start at 1500 grimm. Also, could you tell whoever is making THESE cards to stop whitewashing the GREAT Mammon? Plzkthx :)”
Satan’s not much for card games unless a friend challenges him to a different, more classic game, like rummy or liar. But he does keep the trading cards he likes the most. Art is art, what can he say? They’re also perfect bookmarks. His fave is probably one of MC that captures them perfectly in his vision.
Lucifer thinks the whole TCG is just silly and doesn’t really participate in any of it........... But Priddy Boy’s gotta be ✨Perfect In Everything✨. The man has canonically been stated to be good a video games for the simple need to be good at everything, you think he wouldn’t study strategy and play like it’s chess or smth? That and in his Dad Wallet where he keeps pictures of his brothers (and MC), he keeps his favourite cards of them behind each respectful photo.
Beel doesn’t really collect or know how to play, but Beel has autographed many a card after fangol games, so he can at least understand it’s a collectible item. He tried learning from Leviathan how to play this one time, and it made sense to him for the most part. Card has Life Points, Attack Points, and Special Skills. Beat up opponents' cards and win. Not too different from most other card games. But there are complicated rules to it that he forgets or mixes up. He’d much rather use the cards like dolls and make them “talk” to each other.
Belphie also doesn’t play or collect, but he does enjoy getting his hands on the holographic cards. One day Levi was sent to look for Belphie to tell him it was dinner time. He found the youngest in the attic cutting up the cards into shapes and gluing them back-to-back, hanging them up like a mobile. Levi fainted backward down the stairs and refused to look at Belphie for two months straight.
Solomon really likes these cards! Like Satan he uses them as bookmarks, but specific Sin Colours and People get paired with certain books. Green Satan cards are used on cursed tomes or books about curses, blue Satan cards are used in art history books. Pink Asmo cards are left in Seduction Spell books, while yellow Asmo cards are for books about venoms from creatures. Etc. Makes categorization much easier!
Barbatos doesn’t collect, but he does know how to play. He referees for the Young Lord sometimes whenever Diavolo gets a chance to have fun.
Y’all know ya homeboy DIAVOLO is one of the biggest collectors! He and Levi are both DAUNTING on the “battlefield”, though Dia doesn’t take things so seriously like Levi does sometimes. He’s even commissioned actual paintings of himself and everyone so that those portraits can be made into cards. They’re the rarest ones, there only being one of each person out in the world. As much as Dia would have loved to keep those cards, he likes to watch the chaos of others scrambling desperately try to obtain an Ultra Rare Royal Painted Holographic. Besides, he still has the original paintings! (Also he likes to collect the DevilWendy’s kids meal toy versions of those “cards”, which are actually those plastic “gold” plated cards inside of “”””pokéballs””””. Adorable!)
Some Thirteen cards have special abilities based on real traps of hers. Some of Thirteen’s traps are based on some of the cards. She likes to tape some cards up like stickers to some of said traps as decorations. Or as part of the trap. She once tried to entice Solomon with a card, but Levi fell for it instead and nearly got impaled in a tiger trap she called “Super Duper Rare Double Dare #106”.
Mephistopheles says he doesn’t care about such childish playthings. But once the Diavolo released those Ultra Rare Royal Painted Holographic, and ‘Phisto got highest bidder on the Diavolo card, SUDDENLY he’s become Maximillion Pegasus and his signature deck is the Diavolo deck.
Luke isn’t really one to play, but he does like the art of some of them! He’ll put some in a scrapbook! It’s also another bookmark technique, where certain people’s cards get bookmarked on their favourite recipes. He got the idea from Solomon’s method of bookmarking.
Simeon also doesn’t play but mainly collects. Got a little hooked on it before Raphael moved in and the room was being used for Levi’s spare collection stuff. He was even given many of the Common ones for free (what Simeon did with common cards, Levi didn’t nearly care as much, and trusted him more with cards than he could trust Belphie with holo’s...). He’s collected all the Seven Lords themed ones. It’s a nice, low-key hobby, like stamp collecting. He donates the ones he doesn’t need to MC or Levi.
Raphael neither plays, collects, or knows anything about them really. But he does still have an annoying familiarity with them, thanks to Michael wanting him to buy several packs, nay, BOXES of packs. Michael needs to be the number one Lucifer Card collector. Bro misses his bro... ;(

Birdwatching, or: How Lost Birds Flock Together (chapter 2)
The Witcher (Netflix) // Detroit: Become Human AU (Witcher characters placed in DBH universe) // rated T (Teen And Up) // 11k/???
When Yennefer quit the Oxenfurt Police Department, she swore to herself never to get involved with another android case - that is, until an old mentor comes knocking at her office door. Suddenly, she finds herself with an android in her care and a new job - to identify and neutralize the Sandpiper.
But how does one go about finding a myth? Worst of all, there’s much more at stake than just her paycheck. The deviants’ existence is at risk and then there’s also… the girl.
read the 2nd chapter in full on AO3
The night after the Chameleon, Yennefer doesn’t sleep well.
She tosses and turns; she dreams of a girl and of an old mentor. She dreams of birds - of sandpipers and of swallows and of vultures; and she, herself, is a black kestrel amongst them, circling the swallow, protecting, always protecting.
She dreams of a fire, consuming everything she has ever cared for.
This fire has raged inside of her for as long as she can remember, but it’s been all the more present, all the more insistent after the Cintra case. It was her last straw, Cintra, and to this day she can recall herself, standing in Tissaia’s office. How she had slammed her badge onto Tissaia’s desk, so furious and so, so very tired.
"I gave you all I could give. I’ve helped you for years, Yennefer, what more could you possibly want?"
She thinks about the girl. "Everything."
She has never stopped thinking about the girl.
So she lays, in the dark, staring at the ceiling of her bedroom. Like this, she also remembers the machine that sits in her living room. Geralt.
The entire situation feels like the universe is playing some cruel joke on her. She can’t help but wonder, why me? After all, surely CyberLife - and, by extension, Tissaia - has many contacts in many places; people that’d be far more willing to, how did Tissaia put it exactly? Identify and neutralize the Sandpiper.
There’s more to it, Yennefer is sure of it. She knows Tissaia - she knows that she wouldn’t have made the choice to drag Yennefer into this lightly. What she doesn’t know, though, is who this investigation is truly supposed to benefit. CyberLife? Tissaia?
(Yennefer?)
Around 3 in the morning, she gives up.
She settles herself on the bed, with the laptop in her lap being the only source of light in the room. She pulls up every kind of document she can get her hands on - databases, news sites, CyberLife’s logs, anything that she has access to and even the ones that she shouldn’t have access to. And then, she digs. She digs in search of something - anything - about the specific BN213 that had escaped their grasp just the night before.
There’s nothing. Nothing useful, anyway. All she can find are overly pretty marketing materials along with the model line’s availability and full specifications - but there’s nothing about this specific android. No information on who they belonged to, where they were stationed, when they were bought, from which store… as if they never existed at all. Had she not been aware of previous cases in which the Sandpiper wiped most, if not all, proof of androids’ existences, she would’ve found this strange.
Around 5 in the morning, she gives up again.
She slams her laptop shut with the kind of force that the poor machine doesn’t deserve and then she heaves herself out of bed. She slips out of the bedroom barefoot and having only thrown an old, faded OPD hoodie on top of her black nightgown.
She finds Geralt just as she had left him - on the battered living room couch, staring at the TV. The TV itself is somewhat old-fashioned - a flatscreen, rather than a holographic display. It’s currently on mute, though still playing what looks like a nature documentary about horses. Yennefer stops in the doorway to take in this scene and Geralt is entirely unbothered by her presence - he sits, straight as an arrow, eyes never leaving the screen. His LED pulses yellow.
Careful not to disturb him, Yennefer steps into the room and takes the empty seat next to him. She doesn’t attempt to get his attention at first, and instead just lets herself wonder - about him; about the case. About the previous night and how Geralt’s gaze had lingered on that singer - Jaskier? - and how eager he had seemed to just let him go.
Geralt is a prototype. He’s a state of the art machine designed, as far as Yennefer is aware, for the sole purpose of identifying deviants and tracking down the Sandpiper. A deviant hunter, is what one could call him, and yet it’s hard for her not to ponder the question of can the deviant hunter deviate as well?

Scrolls? (Final Rose)
Scrolls are probably the single most common electronic device that people have. In Final Rose, they function as a combination of mobile phone and laptop. Thanks to the marvels of miniaturisation technology, a scroll that can fit into your pocket or clip onto your belt can also unfold to the size of a laptop without any real difficulty.
Basically, just about every adult has a scroll and so does pretty much every teenager. You won’t always see scrolls in people younger than that since communicators (i.e., mobile communication devices) are often given to children rather than scrolls to prevent them spending too much time online.
Scrolls can vary dramatically in terms of price and capabilities.
The cheapest scrolls are quite affordable for anyone working a steady job. They won’t have the best cameras, the fastest processors, or the best display quality. However, they’ll get the job done at an affordable price. Although Dia Technologies basically rules the scroll market, one of the keys to their success has been their range of budget scrolls. These scrolls offer more bang for the customer’s lien than anyone else and are also immensely durable. There are actually plenty of jokes about hunters using their Dia Technologies scroll as improvised weapons, and there are actual videos of hunters stabbing Grimm with them and the scroll still working afterward.
At the top end are scrolls that boggle the mind. I’ll give you an example. Diana’s scroll is the latest and greatest - a custom model that she put together using custom parts. Its feature include:
Orders of magnitude more processing power and processing speed than any standard scroll on the market
Holographic projectors
Customisable holographic keyboard with haptic feedback
Its own transmitter and receiver to allow for completely independent and wireless communication, complete with encryption
Its own miniature generator, so it doesn’t have to be charged
Inbuilt shields that can withstand heavy weapons fire and inbuilt propulsion units, so it can travel to her location if necessary
Scrolls at that level can cost more than cars with some even costing as much as a house. For obvious reasons, the only people who have those tend to be the exorbitantly wealthy.
In any case, scrolls are so widespread because they can do so many things and do them well. Need to speak to your family on the other side of the world? Just give them a call. Need to research and write that assignment? Go ahead, use your scroll. Almost anything digital that a normal person would ever want to do can be done on their scroll.
For this reason, theft of scrolls is a big deal. In general, all scrolls are registered and protected by a combination of passwords and biometric data, including Aura scans. Furthermore, scrolls can generally be tracked, so actually stealing one and getting away with it is difficult since the tracking unit is generally placed in a position where you’d have to junk the scroll to get rid of it.
To alleviate privacy concerns, access to scroll location data is strictly controlled and generally requires the consent of the owner to obtain. That said, there are loopholes and the like, just like on Earth, that have been taken advantage of from time to time.
At Beacon, every student has a scroll although there is variance in how good those scrolls are. However, anyone whose scroll does not meet the minimum requirements will be issued with one. That said, the engineering students are frequently asked to do modifications and improvements.

Act One: "A world that hates and fears us..."
This was my first time visiting the Xavier Institute for gifted youth, located at 1407 Greymalkin Lane, in the Salem Center of Westchester County, New York. It was built on a massive familial estate that was mostly open to the elements. As I arrived I noticed state of the art security had been installed to prevent intrusion by unwanted visitors.
After I was buzzed through the gate I took my time getting a good look of the grounds. Down on the far shore was a boathouse, nearby which staff member Robert Drake was having fun with some students, taking in some of the summer sun while surfing a translucent surfboard.
A large part of the grounds were dedicated to a thriving garden. This garden hosted an exotic variety of beautiful flora, and was a serene location where Orroro Munroe had chosen to relax.
Another large portion of the grounds were dedicated to a hangar, a wide-open airfield space full of mechanical equipment and housed the workshop of Daniel Lone Eagle.
The actual Xavier Mansion on the grounds was an exemplary display of archaic European architecture and had many winding hallways between student dormitories and classrooms, which were well-equipped with state of the art robotic guards on the grounds and in the house itself. The main building was constantly filled with crowds of mutant students on their way to class or to relax. James Warren Worthington III gave a complex, yet poignantly humorous lecture on the free market in his business and economics course. Elizabeth Braddock maintained her daily fitness regiment, training with a fighting doll in her room shared with Worthington. Scott Summers and Jean Grey, the first students of the Institute's headmaster, were behind the locked door of their own shared chambers. Raven Darkholme and Remy Lebeaux enjoyed a game of pool with a small group of upperclassmen in a rec room inside the dormitories.
The Institute had it's very own medical lab, which doubled as a Scientific Genetic Research Center. This wing housed medical supplies and bizarre technology that seemingly allowed the ministering of care and gene therapy. The animalistic Dr. Hank McCoy spent most of his time here, and was presently performing various stress-tests on varying X-Genes.
Underneath the Mansion was a sub-basement level, which was restricted access to anyone but authorized X-Men, and Professor Charles Xavier. This sub-basement level was accessed by high-speed elevator tubes. Facial and vocal recognition biometric scanners observed all occupants of the sub-basement level at all times to prevent security breaches. Once there beneath the earth and hearth, the sub-basement became a complex web of hallways between other subterranean structures, sporting adamantium melded doors and melded steel walls. The complex was honey-combed with tunnels and underground passageways, and this labyrinth was once occupied by a hostile settlement of mutants called The Morlock during the 80s. That area was considered the weakest area of defense in the entire sub-basement. However, in time of an emergency those tunnels would make an excellent escape.
The halls led me to The Danger Room. The Danger Room was where the field operatives of the X-Men physically trained for missions. The Danger Room was equipped with impossibly fast processors and other computer hardware that were programmed to analyze and respond to the X-Men's choices by using extrapolated data files from previous simulations, and modeling software, simulated gravity fields, and 3D holographic projections to create realistic virtual environments and situations for the X-Men to hone their skills in. Set apart from the actual danger room, where the facilitator of the training regiment would modify or adjust the obstacles and control the overall intensity of the exercise. Currently engaged in a rigorous and grueling training session without a facilitator were a metal man, a clawed berserker, and a heavily armed man with the letter M branded on his face.
Across the underground labyrinth was the room containing Cerebro. Cerebro was an advanced and complex E.S.P. (extra-sensory perception) device. It derived its name from the Latin word "Cerebrum", for the brain. It functioned to amplify telepathic ability, and strengthen brainwaves. It also accelerated the user's synaptic activity by stimulating neurons in the user's brain. The main purpose of Cerebro was to enable Xavier to locate the mutant genetic signature across the globe, but was also integrated into the Institute's AI. Cerebro was housed in the most secure section of the mansion as it contained extensive files on the world's mutant population and their current whereabouts and activities. The machine's restricted access settings could only be overruled by a secret passcode known only to Professor Xavier and his first student, who assisted in calibrating the machine, Jean Grey.
Professor Charles Xavier slowly removed Cerebro's headset interface, and placed it down onto a console. As he commanded his specially designed wheelchair to transport him out of the housing chamber for Cerebro, he began issuing a mental summons to the present X-Men for a meeting in the War Room.
The War Room served as an informational hub and base of operations for the X-Men. The room had wall-inserted monitors constantly displaying real-time news feeds from across the Earth. Each screen represented by a red dot on a holographically projected world globe, which came from the center of the floor, allowing for the viewer to see which disturbances were going on in the world and where. The War Room also held combat equipment and state of the art computers.
Slowly, The X-Men gathered before their leader and mentor. The active X-Men roster had expanded exponentially in the previous decade going into the 90s, to such a size they were split into two teams to be made more manageable. Blue & Gold. The blue team, led by Scott Summers, arrived. 'Cyclops', being Scott Summer's codename, was joined by Dr. Hank McCoy (Beast), Elizabeth Braddock (Psylocke), Raven Darkholme (Rogue), Remy Lebeaux (Gambit), and a man from the Danger Room (Wolverine).
Professor Xavier utilized the monitors to display applicable news footage, and spoke: "An unofficial incarnation of The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants are attacking Yankees Stadium in New York City. The group's most recent leader, Quicksilver, is finding himself on the opposing side of the law once again, and he's leading the unruly duo of Blob and Toad. Avalanche and Pyro are collaborating as well."
"what is Pietro angry about this time?" Asked Wolverine.
"Apparently their terror attack is a message that mutants aren't afraid of humans, but humans should fear mutants, and bow down to their superiors." Xavier explained.
"What better way to spread a message than to interrupt the national Pastime's world-series?" Cyclops asked rhetorically.
"Yes, it seems the young Maximov apple didn't fall too far from the tree in regards to flairs for the dramatic." Xavier replied, and then addressed all the X-Men present. "Prepare yourselves, and remember, you are representing the good in Mutantkind. The sneering public eye is upon you and it is wisest to resolve this with as little conflict as possible. We want to show humanity that not all of us echo the sentiments of this criminal element."
And with that I boarded the private jet of the X-Men, The Blackbird, alongside the primary iteration of that very team.
-
As the X-Men Blue team and I arrived, we found the stadium in ruins and a panicked crowd desperately fleeing the scene. The Blackbird was landed on the roof next to a gaping hole, which allowed the team easy entry as I stayed behind to safely observe and take record. The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants must have expected the X-Men to show up, in fact, they seemed happy for it, because they got the opportunity to give their old nemeses a thrashing.
Cyclops first attempted to reason with the hostile mutants, but it was not long before it came to blows. However, the expertise and militant organization of The X-Men proved greater than the Brotherhood's unadulterated rage. The Jumbotron ended up being forcibly brought down upon the grotesquely obese criminal called the Blob, and Avalanche had caused even further damage to the structural integrity of the monumental stadium. Most of the Brotherhood was incapacitated, but their leader, aptly named Quicksilver, fled the scene once he had lost his allies.
-
As the X-Men and I were returning to the institute, we inevitably learned of the recent destruction of Avengers' Mansion. During a recent battle between the Avengers and their long-time foe Ultron, Avengers' Mansion was destroyed and both Ultron and the Avengers had completely disappeared. The superhuman community at large had gathered at the ruined mansion to search through the rubble for survivors. Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Vision were among the missing.
When we arrived I found such superheroes as Spider-Man, Wasp, the current Ant-Man, and Hercules all present and helping remove debris. We spent hours searching, but at the end of the day...everyone returned home with no clue as to what had really happened.
-
The day after the destruction of Avengers' Mansion, Scott Summers had spent the majority of the day in the War Room with Professor Xavier.
As dusk neared I eavesdropped on a private conversation between Scott and the man codenamed Wolverine. Scott spoke of a group of violent human religious extremists known as 'The Purifiers' who had been kidnapping mutant teenagers, and who had most recently taken a student of the institute. The Purifiers had kidnapped Rahne Sinclaire, a 15-year-old girl. Wolverine agreed that it was their obligation to save the captured children, "Well, if those nut-jobs are dumb enough to come after us, I'll snikt 'em down. Hard."
"I'm not gonna wait until there are more dead mutant kids on our doorstep. You're going after the purifiers before they get the chance to do whatever it is they have planned. When you reach them, you're going to eliminate this threat permanently. But you're not going in alone, I want you to put a black ops team together. A new X-Force." Cyclops stated.
"Damn, Summers, don't know if I should be impressed or worried you've snapped. What's Jean say about all this?" Wolverine asked.
"Jean...doesn't need to know."
"OK, I'm impressed."
"No one can know."
-
X-Force consisting of Wolverine, Warpath, Psylocke, and Angel traveled by blackbird to an abandoned church surrounded by trees in the countryside of upstate New York. The church was ancient, full of rotted wood and cluttered with empty pews. From outside the sound of hymns being sung could be heard. William Stryker's preaching against the "sin and degradation of the demonic mutant race" drowned out the screams and cries of a tortured young girl.
Stryker had probably expected someone to learn of his genocidal activities at the church, and so he had posted snipers to ward off unwanted visitors, and they were well-hidden in the trees. They stood no chance against X-Force.
Once X-Force entered the church, William Stryker commanded his six total Purifier cultists and soldiers to attack and defend, while he continues to grandstand. Once all of his pathetic minions has been mercilessly executed, Stryker joined the fight and went until his own bitter end. Rahne Sinclaire was rescued and escorted back to the institute.
-
The morning after X-Force returned to the institute, I found a group of students gathered around a television.
On the TV was a reporter, and behind him was a mass of people crowded together and looking at a stage in front of them. The reporter began to speak, "If you're just now joining us, The Avengers have returned from their recent disappearance and have called a press conference." The crowd behind him began to talk louder. "Here they are now. Let's listen."
The camera zoomed in on the stage as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Vision all approached the pulpit. They waved at the crowd and Captain America took the microphone. "My fellow Americans, metahumans and mutants, it is truly a great day to be alive and an American."
The crowd cheered and applauded, but Captain America beckoned for them to quiet and continued his speech.
"During our absence, we were transported to an alternate reality. A reality much like our own, but in the distant future and what we saw there we found disturbing." He paused and looked out into the crowd before he continued. "What we found there was tyranny and oppression, brought on by an anarchist government. The free peoples of the United States of America were denied their basic human rights and forced to live more like slaves than citizens. The cause of this anarchic governing force was abject failure. Failure to serve and protect. The ones who had failed were us, the most powerful of all. We finally managed to escape that nightmarish reality thanks to the Asgardian magics of Thor and Iron Man's inventive genius to find ourselves back in the nation we love and hold dearest to our hearts." The crowd applauded again, but weaker this time. "My fellow Americans, we The Avengers, stand before you and promise you security and protection from the dystopic future and oppressive regime we met in that alternate reality. I just had a meeting with the President of the United States and Congress, Tony Stark, Secretary of National Security, and representing S.H.I.E.L.D. as current Director-in-chief. As of NOW, The Avengers are Head of State of America."
The crowd erupted into chaos. Captain America again held up his hand and silenced the crowd.
"We solemnly swear to protect and serve. With Thor's might, Stark's Intellect, and my patriotism we will govern this great nation to prosperity, safety, and peace that it has never before seen. To ensure the survival of our great nation, I ask something very pinnacle of the metahuman population across the nation: I ask that you reveal your identity and register yourself as agents of the government. You and your loved ones will be kept safe and supported from dissenting public or enemies who may wish to harm you. Believe me, I understand the importance of keeping the ones you care about safe. Please, I beg that you see the benefits of governmental registration and regulation that I am suggesting to you, and that you do so. If you do not, you will be deemed as an enemy of the state, face prosecution and be imprisoned. Our new, Ideal society cannot stand for dangerous acts of vigilantism outside of the law. That is All I have to say."
-
Retrospectively, I see that the ensuing coup had been in the works for a long time and every contingency had been calculated that the X-Men, mutants, and specific superhumans wouldn't register easily. As such, a nearby military base had been emptied to encourage the mutants of Xavier's institute to register or be taken in by force. Knowing the fallibility of humans, massive Sentinel series robots had been sent in to oversee the transaction. While the soldiers were armed and ready to fight, they first presented the X-Men the option to peacefully surrender and register. The leader of the soldiers had strict orders from the White House to arrest and detain any noncompliant staff or student of the institute. He was also bigoted and hard-headed, which made it very difficult for Scott Summers to reason with him. With the presence of the Sentinels heightening the anxieties of all the mutants, an outspoken young woman named Jubilation Lee used her powers and provoked the soldiers into an assault.
The minute the fighting broke out panicked souls fled in all directions, Wolverine leapt to Jubilee's defense by flanking a Sentinel, Robert Drake (Iceman) began erecting a massive ice barrier, and an elite team of stealth soldiers with telepathy-dampening alloy helmets infiltrated the Xavier Mansion. The stealth team burst forcibly into Professor Xavier's offices and into the sub-basement only to find Hank McCoy laboring to render Cerebro inoperable and that Xavier was gone.
