I loved Dracula's ex-girlfriend and I love your channel! I wanted to ask you about Alex and his apparent disdain for Fay. Like I understand him resenting her for essentially c0ckblock him in the dessert ordering scene, but he just seems to hate her guts from even before Belladonna show up to the restaurant. Why is that? The movie was amazing and you all look stunning!
I'm so glad you asked because the answer ties into an extremely important job Brandon had in literally the first shot, and he nails it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the film opens we need the audience to quickly know when and where the story is taking place.
We can see and hear it's a restaurant so we're situated in space but we still need to be situated in time.
The clumsy way to do it would be to have Fay look at a clock and sigh, "Where is she?" But we can do better! Actors are there to serve the text, and Brandon's a great actor so he does it for us!
Alexander's irritated reaction when he flips his notebook shut tells us Fay has been here for a long time i.e. it's late at night.
This is how it looks in the script:
Tumblr media
So the reason he dislikes her is she's been sitting here for ages not ordering anything! We set up a little about their relationship, we learn something about Belle (she's late), and we're situated in time.
When Belle finally does arrive Fay orders tap water and a burger - which we can reasonably assume are the cheapest things on the menu. Alexander corrects her: it's not just 'a burger' it's the Oak-smoked California hickory burger, they're not just 'fries' they're organic chipped potatoes twice-cooked in our house spice. Fay asks for ketchup and Alexander is visibly disgusted. We surmise he doesn't think she's classy enough for this restaurant.

shirt with a heart and child of divorce written on top but then there’s a picture of huntclaire. you wouldnt get it. i do
#child of divorce but theyre married and love each other but actually they’re divorcees#theyre like those couples that get married and then get divorced and then get married again. actually that’s so chic#you should be divorced by the time you’re 27. a little divorce makes life more exciting#do not consider red carpet diaries at all when writing claire but if i were to consider it#she wouldve broken up with hunt sometime after hollywood u and then it would’ve been kind of a divorce#<- well my timeline for hollywood u i mean. that would be in 2016#they get back together but they have even stronger + weirder divorcees vibes#claire is actually a divorced woman. when you think about it. that’s also a great descriptor for hunt but in a different way#so theyre like when you put two spiritually divorced people in a relationship#this makes a lot of sense to me. actually#they have the most loving relationship ever which is gross and disgusting. but when you look at them they have this weird vibe about them#theyre like bitter exes who know too much of each other and one of them is way too comfortable saying stuff in public#what do you mean theyre together and in love#huntclaire#actually i need them so be super fucking weird about each other in public#claire is too familiar with a guy who does Not seem to like her at all. why is she saying this stuff. claire thats tmi#he would do anything for her. he will still argue with her over the most mundane things ever.#her coffee order sucks and he’s not saying all That Stuff to a barista. kill him on the spot.#claire gets an extra cookie bc she threatened to cry#they’re just kinda stuck together idk. something something his line about the universe bending to get them together. he’s bitter about it#it’s also a form of foreplay but i don’t know what the tag limits are#just know that claire is weird about that as well#i mean tbf of course is foreplay what else would this be. how is this dynamic feasible otherwise#it’s*

Because I know few people will see this and it’s getting late and the dash is crazy
Just a reminder that a certain someone (like someones in the past) also chose a public kind of life. To the supernova extreme that Taylor’s is, no, but this is the industry they chose as their vocation too, and this is the partner they chose to love from the outset.
Does that mean this someone deserves hate or harassment from her fans? No. Even if he had done something truly heinous which there is no indication of yet. But to also act as if he or any of her past partners are shrinking violets plucked out of obscurity as truly private citizens and her fame was a noose around their necks is completely disingenuous. These are not accountants or teachers or doctors who relinquished privacy upon meeting her. These are professionals in the entertainment industry who are seeking a level of public life to further their careers, in the sense that they have work in film and music and modeling and sponsorships and public appearances in service of those careers. Should commenters online be civil to any of these subjects when interacting with them? Absolutely. But let’s not pretend they haven’t chosen part of this life, and a certain public life would be an expectation of any they chose.
To act like Taylor’s dedication if not outright embracing of some of these aspects for her own career is a loaded gun is hurtful to her. (And to women in general in the industry.) I said this the other night, but Taylor has been mega-famous for over a decade; even if she were in a lull post-1989, that was still more attention than any human will ever experience in their lifetime. Choosing to jump into a relationship with her is an inherent acceptance of that, and forcing her hand in an effort to remove that — the intensity of which she for the most part has no control over — is unfair, and no wonder she’s pissed if it came down to that. I used an analogy that it’s like choosing to date someone with kids: they’re a package deal and by choosing them, you’re also accepting the full package. If you can’t handle it at that point of your life, the greatest kindness you can offer is to move on gracefully before everyone gets more hurt. Taylor’s life is no mystery in this respect, and choosing to date her but reject the core parts of what make her her — the appearances, the performances, the collaboration, the constant churn of projects to keep the creative juices flowing, etc. — truly could be death by a thousand cuts. Especially if for every inch she gave the person took a mile.
What I’m trying to say is: people shouldn’t be flooding these subjects’ social media accounts and dragging them, or harassing them on the street or whatnot. But, these are all grown ass men. Part of them (yes, even that one) want parts of this kind of life. If not, they would stick to plays in the west end or truly indie flicks, and not starring in leading roles in hyped tv shows or chasing after Hollywood movies with Oscar-darling directors. Or attending promotional events or participating in ad campaigns. They have agents and publicists and managers and all the trappings of celebrity. Everyone deserves their privacy absolutely, and I certainly sympathize with that level of intrusion because it seems unbearable to a dull normal like me. But, the parts that are a fundamental foundation of your career — performing, networking, supporting each other at events — shouldn’t be weaponized against Taylor because she’s at least honest about wanting it. We really don’t need to be protecting these men for the things Taylor is villainized for. These men may not admit it, but they chose to do the same kinds of events Taylor does, albeit on a much smaller scale.
I’m not saying it isn’t awkward that Taylor may be airing some dirty laundry in her upcoming music. But, for all we know, she may have reason to be pissed. And again: this isn’t new behaviour for Taylor. She’s always written music about her life. If someone isn’t comfortable with that from the outset, maybe they should have rethought their motivations. I don’t want to make assumptions, but thoughts are definitely thinking.
In short, stop babying men who choose this life to take down the women who embrace it.

Okay, so the other night I fell down a rabbit hole of sorts. I found some post cards that Vincent had written to his daughter and his (ex) wife Mary. I just think they're so sweet. So I'm sharing them here. These do NOT belong to me. So I do NOT take credit. I just think they're awesome. I'll also do my best to translate in case anyone has any problem reading his writing.
This is a postcard he send to his daughter, Victoria in 1965. Look at the hearts he drew at the top!!!! Whyyyy is this so damn precious?! Moving on... It reads:
Dearest Toria - I love my Easter present - your pictures are beautiful but they make me homesick to see you. It won't be long now and we will have lots of fun when we are together again - I'll make you popovers and meat sticks in the fire and will plant a tree on your birthday and have a big cake! My movie is finally going pretty well but I wish I was doing it at home. Thanks Myrna for the letter. All my love, Daddy
Tumblr media
This post card was sent to his ex-wife Mary in the mid 70s. By this time, he was married to Coral Browne, but remained close friends with Mary. According to their daughter, there was an inside joke to this postcard (which I never understood - but maybe it's not for me to understand :) ) it reads:
Of course I never saw it - who has? The trip to Hong Kong was endless and I've been working my tail off doing publicity, etc. But still find Hong Kong fascinating even tho it's twice as big and as crowded as before - I overlook the bay to the peninsula now nestled unhappily in a forest of skyscrapers but I hear still good. All my love, Vincent *SIGH*
Tumblr media
This post card was sent to his daughter, Victoria and his ex wife Mary Price in February of 1975. Again, he was married to Coral Browne but remained close friends with his ex wife Mary. His daughter once said, "I was lucky that my parents remained friends after the divorce. They wanted what's best for each other and for me, which wasn't always easy because of my stepmother." Which, I could understand her stepmother's point of view, there. But still, it's insanely sweet that they remained good friends.
It reads: Dearest Tor. This is one of the fun things in the great modern museum here in Buffalo. The tour goes well but the weathers terrible. I was 8 hours late getting here but didn't miss the lecture. Love to you both, Dad.
Tumblr media
This letter was sent to his daughter, Victoria in 1976. It reads: Dearest Torsie. On my way to Ohio to rehearse Oliver - had a nice talk with your mama who says you're having a ball - I'd love to hear from you and so am sending a couple of cards to write on- do send them in the next week or so as I'll be here until the 20th - but so will you! All love to you! Dad.
Tumblr media
This post card was sent to his ex wife, Mary and his daughter Victoria in 1979. It reads:
Dearest M + V (Mary and Victoria) Well it slipped into town and seems to be doing very well though it's very strange management but quite legitimate - a lovely theater and set and nice people but NY audiences are not as vociferous as Denver, etc. still it's nice to be here and I love living in Gramercy park. I walk to work but taxi home. I've decided to do only a few head one nighters as it's too difficult to check everything and play it too. Still love doing it however - All Love Dad

All the stuff constantly getting more and more revealed about Nickelodeon and also just Dan Schneider over these past few years, has only really told me that some child actors are just kind of emotionally unintelligent.
Like the white actors who go "I never saw anything like that from anyone on set" when black ex-child actors will come out with stories on how they were discriminated against, or treated poorly, or just type cast in stereotypical "black" roles that implied them to be criminals of some kind.
No shit you didn't notice what was going on, you were a white person, so obviously not receiving racial microaggressions from racist producers and production staff, and you were like 13-15 years old in the early/mid 2000s so you wouldn't have even known how to look for or recognize that kind of stuff.
Or when ex-child actresses will come out and say "Yeah these producers were objectifying me and putting me in sexually under toned scenes, that made me uncomfortable, and feels kind of misogynistic looking back" and a bunch of ex-child actors who worked on that same show will act confused and say that never happened to them.
As if the fact that the treatment a girl is going to get from a misogynist is going to be different to the treatment a boy is going to get from that same misogynist flew right over their head.
It's as if the idea that so many ex-child actresses are coming out saying they were mistreated, and sexualized, and uncomfortable with producers male child actors had no issue with, was because the child actresses were being harassed due to being girls, never crossed their minds.
What I've learned is that Hollywood has a culture of "If it didn't happen to me it didn't happen" and the fact that people who are nice to you might treat other people like shit based on things like their race or their sex seems to fly over a lot of their heads.
