Dark Shadows was an American gothic soap opera that aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971. The show depicted the lives of the wealthy Collins family of Collinsport, Maine, where a series of supernatural occurrences take place.

Dark Shadows became popular when vampire Barnabas Collins played by actor Jonathan Frid was introduced ten months into its run. It would also feature ghosts, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, and a parallel universe. A small troupe of actors each played many roles; as actors came and went, some characters were played by more than one actor. At the old ball game

On Friday morning Sharon and I flew from Denver to the Hollywood Burbank Airport (formerly known as the Bob Hope Airport), which is much less chaotic than LAX.

We'll spend 10 days or so with the L.A. wing of the family before returning to Michigan.

On Saturday night daughter Caitlin and son-in-law Tony took us to Dodger Stadium for a Dodger Dog and a look at the amazing Shohei Ohtani. Paid attendance: 50,182.

As it turned out Ohtani didn't do much. He went one for three with a base on balls. He stole second, but then strayed too far off the base and got picked off in a run-down. Embarrassing!

Nonetheless the mighty Dodgers beat the Rockies 4-1 on a beautiful evening for baseball.

General Hospital Actor Tyler Christopher Dead at 50

Christopher was known for his roles on 'General Hospital' and 'Days of Our Lives', which earned him multiple Daytime Emmy nominations over the course of his career.

Tyler Christopher, best known for his Emmy-winning role General Hospital, has died. He was 50.

Christopher's former GH costar Maurice Benard confirmed the actor's death on Instagram.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher," he wrote. "Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment." Benard continued, "Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him." Benard also noted that "Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father."

General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini told PEOPLE in a statement: “I am heartbroken over the news of Tyler Christopher’s passing. He was kind, an incredible actor, and dear friend, who was beloved by our GH family and fans of Nikolas Cassadine."

Valentini added, "On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, our heartfelt sympathies go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Christopher portrayed Nikolas Cassadine on the legendary medical soap opera from 1996 to 2016. He also had an Emmy-nominated turn as Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives from 2018 to 2019.

In 2008, Christopher married former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo and reportedly divorced in 2021. The former couple share two children: Greysun James Christopher and Boheme Christopher. He was also previously married to Desperate Housewives alum Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.

Back in July, the actor, who was placed under the guardianship of his sister Susan Asmo Baker since 2019, spoke out about regaining control of his life in an interview with Bloomberg.

“I never thought in a million years that I would be taken advantage of by a family member,” he said.

Shortly after the article was published, Christopher captioned photo of himself on Instagram, writing, “Sharing is part of the healing process.”

Christopher was first placed under his sister's guardianship during a bout of alcohol withdrawal. He fell, hit his head and underwent life-saving surgery after internal bleeding. While Christopher was hospitalized, his sister filed for guardianship.

In a previous court filing, Christopher alleged that Asmo Baker used up to $40,000 of finances that should have been for his guardianship to pay off her own credit cards and buy her son a laptop, among other things. Asmo Baker denied the allegations.

Back in May, Christopher was arrested at the Hollywood Burbank Airport for public intoxication. He was released on $250 bail. It wasn’t his first public intoxication arrest, as Christopher was first arrested for a similar incident in 2019 when he fell asleep in the back of an Uber. He pled guilty, and a judge denied a request by law enforcement that Christopher be sentenced to an alcohol treatment program.

**This is such a sad, sad day. While Christopher battled his demons, he was a talented and much loved actor. It was always my hope that he would return to GH as Nikolas, because in my opinion, no one played him better. Rest in peace Tyler, you've earned it.

Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park, 10621 Victory Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606

I visited this cemetery out of curiosity. It’s close to the Burbank Airport and is known for the Portal of the Folded Wings, a shrine to aviation. The cemetery was larger than I expected. The terrain is flat and you can drive to different areas on a wide paved asphalt road. There are some large trees lining the road. I also spotted two fountains and a couple of mausoleums.

The headstones are all in ground (no upright stones). The grass was dry in areas. I’ve seen greener cemeteries in the area and ones that are drier. There were a few monuments – to Vietnam veterans, to members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. There’s also an area for baby graves.

The cemetery is surrounded by homes and an industrial area – not a nice area. You can see the mountains though. You can also see the planes take off from Burbank Airport. It’s not peaceful. I didn’t see many groundskeepers. I think there are two entrances. One is by the Portal of the Folded Wings and the main one is on Victory Blvd.

later years of his life, Christopher was open about his bipolar disorder and alcoholism. He claimed to have died 3 times in alcohol related instances. In November 2019 while Christopher was going through alcohol withdrawal, he experienced delirium tremens, leading to a fall during which he hit his head on the edge of a bathtub and sustained a traumatic brain injury. He underwent a craniotomy to relieve pressure on his brain.

After recovering from his head injury and ending a medical guardianship under his sister in September 2021, Christopher moved to Hollywood from Ohio to try to find work as an actor where he was homeless for the first six months. Before his death, he was close friends with General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard who is also diagnosed with bipolar disorder and gave support to Christopher.

Legal issues

On November 11, 2019, Christopher was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana after falling asleep in the back of an Uber car. He pleaded guilty and paid a small fine.

From January 2020 to September 2021, Christopher was placed under the medical guardianship of his sister Susan Asmo Baker following a nearly fatal head injury. After requesting that the guardianship be ended and his sister approving, he filed a lawsuit against her, citing guardianship abuse and alleging that she misused $40,000.

In May 2023, Christopher was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Police responded to reports of a drunk male and arrived to find him sleeping on the ground near a terminal. He was arrested and fined.

Death

On October 31, 2023, Tyler Christopher was found dead. His cause of death was revealed to be positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication.[42][43] He was 50 years old.[
