I have a headcanon surrounding wights, hollows, and their blood. In the books it’s stated that hollow blood is black and rather viscous (we know this from when Jacob’s hollow was used as a battery for the panloopticon). In my hc, hollow blood is very very very dark blue giving it that black appearance. I say this because hollowgast tongues are said to be very similar to octopus tentacles, and octopi have copper-based blood. The blue color is caused by a copper-base, while red blood is due to an iron base.

Wights on the other hand have blood that’s a bit more complicated. They have human body structure (for the most part), but are essentially just an evolved hollowgast that’s really good at pretending to be a person. In my hc they have a range of blood types that are far more complex than the ones we are used to in real life. Instead of A, B, O, etc., they have a range of how much of their blood is still copper-based, AND regular blood types (meaning if, hypothetically, a wight needed a blood transfusion it would absolutely *have* to be blood from another wight with a similar copper-iron percentage *and* same blood type.

For example, wight A has 20% iron and 80% copper based blood along with the blood type O-, wight B on the other hand has 70% iron and 30% copper with the blood type O-. Even though they have the same blood type, the amount of iron vs. copper based blood is too uneven to be compatible. If wight B were to have between 15-25% iron though, then it would’ve been able to work! (Lmk if I worded this confusingly, I suck at writing)

Also, since iron based blood is red and copper based is blue, wight blood is actually purple!!! There is a wide variety of shades in the color of wight blood, ranging from almost black-blue to dark fuchsia.

It’s a bit embarrassing to admit that you’d ended up falling for the infuriating man.

His care when attending to your injuries, the way he looked at you that day as he shared fears, it was hard to pretend that you weren’t fond of him. 

Even if he was always annoyingly smug. 

That afternoon that you stop by the hospital, he looks up from his seat at the desk. The second you step in and close the door, his glasses glint. You blush, looking down at your feet. 

“I..I would like it if you’d train me.” 

You’re not going to stop fighting anytime soon, and he’ll keep lecturing you if you’re reckless. Ryuken has strength and wisdom, so you understand that with his help, you can actually defend yourself if the occasion ever presents itself. 

“I was wondering when you would ask.” 

You frown. 

“T-This whole time you were just messing with me!! You could have just offered!!” 

“If I had, you would have rejected it.” 

Well, he’s not wrong.

He stands, and when he approaches you expect a condescending statement. However, his eyes just soften. You’re not used to this, him showing so much to you. He always looks so sure, so controlled. Unbothered. Yet his expression right now reveals so much and you’re a bit shocked that you never noticed before. 

“We’ll begin tomorrow, avoid staying out late today.” 

A pulse pops on your head. 

“What am I a kid!! Stop looking down on me!!” 

Ryuken just liked getting under your skin, you realized that. Despite his lack of tact sometimes, he was diligent in his training. He realized that due to your training, you’d improved your stamina, so the first goal was for you to avoid attacks. 

That’s why for your first training session,  you were in an open field dodging the arrows he was firing. 

You noticed how most of them would just barely glide past you. It’s clear that he’s taking it easy on you, so you grit your teeth, rushing in his direction. When he notices your tactic, his arrows become far and few between. 

Once you’re closer, you know he understands that he’ll have to change tactics. His weapon is good for distance combat. Once you’re close enough, you fire a punch and he dodges easily. You grin, attacking repeatedly. 

He’s jumping back, avoiding each blow. 

“Finally putting in a bit of effort.” 

He’s stronger than you by miles, but at least you’ve managed to get him moving. One particular punch he catches, and you yell when he flips your body over. Your back hits the dirt with a thud, and he just straightens, looking down at your form. You’d never understand how he manages to look so prim and put together. He should have at least been sweating a little, but maybe that is asking too much. 

“Are you done?” 

You grit your teeth. 

“We’ve been going for more than an hour you psycho!!” 

Leave it to him to piss you off. 

Training continued. 

Everyday after work you would meet him at his chosen location to train. Today you’re in his house, inside a gym. You’re a bit impressed at his set up, but then again, he does own a hospital. 

The numerous training equipment is a sight to see. You’re doing your best to pay attention as he explains the practice, but you’re not sure you fully get the concept. 

“So a flash step allows me to move quickly?” 

“Yes, it’s a great advantage that is useful in battle. There will be times where you need to get away. Flash step is instinctive. It is mainly mastered by reapers, but it’s possible for humans to achieve, especially when they are as powerful as you are.” 

You don’t expect that.

“You think I’m powerful?” 

He narrows his eyes, because he thinks it’s a joke, but then he remembers that you don’t feel or even see spiritual pressure the way he does. 

“She’s unaware.” 

He probably should have pointed it out sooner, but he just assumed you knew. 

“She was under the impression that I was purposely missing a few of those shots.” 

The truth is a few times it has been difficult to pin you down. You’re quick, especially given how little training you’ve truly had with someone of experience. With the right guidance, taking down hollows would be a small task for you. 

“You are strong, you just need to hone those abilities.” 

You flush at the praise, nodding shyly. 

Now that you understand, it’s time to begin. 

“Your goal is to avoid me at all costs.” 

You grin, taking a stance. 

“Peace of cake.” 

He figures you’d say that. 

“You’re beautiful (Y/N)-san.” 

You blush, staring at him in disbelief. 

“W-Where the hell did that come from!!” 

He takes a step, and your stance falters. 

“It’s hard for me to concentrate when you’re wearing such attire.” 

Your cheeks darken, because you’d settled for a pair of tights and a tank top. It’s not overly revealing or alluring. His words make no sense. 

“S-Stop saying weird stuff!!” 

“I am just being honest.” 

His eyes give you a once over, and you can feel your heart hammering. 

You’re starting to understand his plan. 

“Y-You think you can just hit me with some svaue line and I’ll cave!! That’s not going to work!!” 

“I don’t know what you mean, I told you, I’m just trying to help you get stronger. “ 

His gaze says otherwise, and you swallow. You clench your fist and he flash steps. In a matter of seconds, you’re pinned to the wall. 

“You need to have better reaction time.” 

His hand presses to the wall and you do your best not to let him see how much this is actually affecting you, but it’s hopeless. If your blush didn’t give it away, you’re certain your racing heart beat does. 

“R-Ryuken..” 

His blue eyes glint. 

“When you say my name in such a suggestive way..” 

He leans closer. 

“It’s hard for me not to assume you’d like me to indulge in these desires.” 

You clench your eyes shut, anticipating the kiss. To your shock, your body shifts on its own. For a moment you aren’t sure what just happened. But Ryuken blinks, watching your form that is now standing at the door, about ten feet away. 

You gape in disbelief. 

“Impossible…” 

You couldn’t have just..

“You flashstepped..” 

He appears just as surprised, and you mean to say something, but Ryuken is quicker. 

He’s at your side in seconds and he takes your wrist, tugging you forward. 

“Hey wait a-” 

Your lips collide and your eyes widen. His hand slides behind your head, holding you to him. It feels like he’s worried you’ll disappear again. Your eyes close and you do your best to hold back the moan when he deepened the kiss. Your hands grip at his shirt, body trembling. It feels so good. 

He feels so good. 

The moment he pulls away, his lips move to your neck, and you whimper when his hand slides lower, giving you an appreciative squeeze. 

“You’re not putting up much of a fight. I’m an adversary (Y/N), fight back.” 

His words just make you want more. 

He knows exactly what he’s doing. 

You practically melt against him, and he smirks against your skin. 

So much for training.
