Holiday Magic
All about gifts and giving on my blog today. An excerpt from my humorous memoir about the magic of gifting. Grab my free short story, The Gift, as my gift to you.
As Christmas approaches, I often get nostalgic – granted it isn’t hard for me to get that way at any time of the year – but the Holiday Season has always been special. There’s a magic in that time that touches my heart and my soul, and one of the best parts is the spirit of “giving.” We give each other gifts for many reasons, the primary one to show our love for each other, and in diplomatic…

A St. Patty's Day story
Armed with nothing more than a travel mug filled with coffee, she embarked on a quest for gold with her two daughters and the leprechaun captured inside a homework project. #StPatricksDay #leprechaun #shortstory #holidaystory #fridayfiction
Hey, y’all. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. I took the day off of work to get some things done. Basically, I’m getting paid to run errands and cook corned beef and cabbage. I’ve got a little downtime, so I thought I’d get paid to write you this little St. Paddy’s Day story, as well. Photo by James Wheeler on Pexels.com And if You Catch a Leprechaun? “Mom! Get in here!” Oh, for Pete’s sake, she…

Kicking Off December with “Winter Wonders” – A Year of Storytelling Shaina Tranquilino December 1, 2024
As the year winds down, I find myself reflecting on an incredible journey12 months of weaving tales, each month dedicated to its own theme. What began as a personal challenge has blossomed into a cherished tradition, where each theme serves as a compass guiding my imagination and storytelling. For December 2024 the theme for this month couldn’t be more fitting: Winter Wonders.
A Year of Stories, One Theme at a Time
Looking back, this blog series has been a celebration of creativity, discipline, and connection. Themed storytelling has been a joy, allowing me to explore a spectrum of genres and tones. More importantly, it has offered me a chance to connect with readers, as your feedback and enthusiasm have made this journey all the more rewarding.
Why “Winter Wonders”?
Winter has always been a season that sparks the imagination. The chill in the air, the blanket of snow, and the holiday spirit create a sense of magic and mystery. For this month, I want to dive into the heart of winter—not just as a backdrop, but as a character in itself. From enchanting snow-covered landscapes to cozy hearths, from tales of winter’s hardships to the joy of seasonal traditions, December’s stories will explore the beauty and depth of the season.
Expect tales of wonder, resilience, and maybe even a sprinkle of holiday mischief. There might be a story about an intrepid traveler braving a winter storm, or a child discovering the secret of a magical snow globe. Perhaps there will even be a touch of the fantastical—a snow queen, an ice dragon, or ancient winter spirits.
What’s Next?
This final month of the series is a celebration, but it’s also a starting point for what comes next. As December unfolds, I’ll be sharing as many short stories that come to mind, inspired by Winter Wonders. By the end of the month, I hope to have created a tapestry of winter-inspired tales that bring joy, wonder, and warmth to your hearts.
Once this series concludes, I plan to reflect on the year and explore ways to keep this storytelling momentum alive. Whether that’s through a new series, a compilation of the year’s stories, or a completely different project, I’m excited about what lies ahead.
To my readers, thank you for being part of this journey. Your comments, insights, and encouragement have been the wind beneath my wings this year. As we step into the magical month of December, I invite you to curl up with a warm drink and join me for the final chapter of this year-long storytelling adventure.
Let’s uncover the Winter Wonders together. Stay tuned for the first story of the month—it’s coming soon!
Happy reading, and may your December be filled with warmth, joy, and a little touch of magic.

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Mom's wrapping skills would magically improve this year
Picture this: a cozy living room bathed in the warm glow of holiday lights. The scent of pine fills the air as the fireplace crackles softly. Stockings, carefully chosen and brimming with excitement, dangle from the mantel. Yet, beneath the surface of festive anticipation, there's a touch of humor in the air.
In the spirit of full disclosure, those stockings were hung not only for St. Nick but also in the hope that somehow, miraculously, Mom's wrapping abilities would ascend to new heights. 🎅🤶
We've all been there—the tape mishaps, the uneven edges, the attempt at a perfect bow that ends up looking more like a friendly knot. But here's the beauty of it all: the joy isn't in flawless presentation; it's in the shared laughter, the love poured into every wrapped surprise, no matter how unique.
So, this holiday season, let's revel in the delightful imperfections. Let the stockings tell a tale of attempted perfection and the love stitched into each fold of wrapping paper. Here's to the magic of imperfectly wrapped surprises and the joy they bring. 🎄❤️

The “Little Caesars Dancing Man” worked tirelessly, spinning his sign on the corner of Antelope and Main. Regardless of how hard his job must’ve been, he beamed, so happy and ALWAYS kind.
My kids were still quite little, and they’d smile and point as he’d spin the sign on his foot and flip it over his head. We saw him from our car nearly every day, and no matter what kind of crappy mood I’d been in, this stranger would always make my day better.
In fact, I received some really bad news one particular afternoon, but as I drove home, I spotted the #LittleCaesars Dancing Man, just rockin’ away to some unheard beat. The light turned red, so I continued watching his complete exuberance for life. I fully realized then; he's perpetually happy even though he's out there, working in the blistering sun or the freezing cold. He waves back and smiles. You’d think he didn’t have a worry in the world, but in actuality, he must have been so tired.
That day, I turned right instead of going straight home, parked by the dancing man, and decided to finally meet him.
“I’m Raymond.” He grinned, offering me his hand.
“I’m Elisa!” I smiled and knew an awesome friendship had begun. Then I told him what an inspiration he is—how he might not know it, but he makes life better every day for people like me and my family. He grew quiet, and I thought the words meant far more than I knew.
When I got home, I friend requested Raymond through Facebook and blogged about my experience.
A couple of weeks later, I received a letter from Little Caesars’ corporate office across the country. They’d actually read my blog and sent two $20 gift cards! They had one request: for me to keep a card and give one to someone else. I remember reading the letter in the post office, then I gave the second gift card to the post office employee, John. He said the story was even better than the money!
The whole experience felt surreal at the time. And to think, if I’d never stopped that day, I would’ve missed out on the whole adventure.
Raymond and I became friends for well over 10 years. I watched him experience good and bad times—and he smiled the whole way through… just like he used to when he danced for Little Caesars. Then, in 2020, after doctors diagnosed me with terminal cancer, he became one of my biggest advocates, sending me encouraging messages and kind words when I needed them the most. Who would’ve thought all this would start after I saw him spinning a sign on the corner of Antelope and Main? Life is such a miracle.
I’ve had the most wonderful people, like Raymond Lowery, come into my life over the years and show me how to be strong, smile when life is the hardest, and keep going against all the odds.
Rest in peace, dear friend. You made such a positive impact on my life. I think you did that for everyone you met though. You, well, Raymond… you were incredible. Put in a good word for me, all right? Maybe save a seat for me in Heaven? 💓

Decided to take a break from the world yesterday, and finally got to read the Star Wars Life Day Treasury. I love Star Wars, I love Christmas (or Life Day) stories, and @cavanscottwriter and @georgemannauthor are two favorite writers. It was EXACTLY what I needed yesterday. Plus they included a High Republic story and an Ewoks story that got me wanting to watch more episodes of the cartoon, and my wife to admit that she really doesn’t like that show and that it’s ok to watch it without her. It’s a quick read, but pretty nifty, and one I will probably reread in December, and probably annually after that. (Also gorgeous illustrations by Grant Griffin, I think. His name’s not on the cover so I can’t double check ATM.) #thismakesmehappy #2021reading #books #starwars #starwarsbooks #lucasfilm #starwarsthehighrepublic #thehighrepublic #starwarslifedaytreasury #starwarslifeday #lifedaytreasury #disneybooks #holidaystory #holidaystories #christmas #christmasstory #christmasstories #shortstories #childrensbooks #cavanscott #georgemann #ewoks https://www.instagram.com/p/CT7d26Qpchz/?utm_medium=tumblr
