I need to talk about the last episode of the His Dark Materials series

Not only this series goes about simply crushing me emotionally no less than 4 different times in this last season alone and make me shed all the tears I got to shed in one single last episode...

But it does so with the character who plays "the role of the snake" of Eve and Adam doing so by telling two characters about how she left the church to pursue her sapphic romance. And not long after that, a black and gay angel who just participated in a revolution against the self proclaimed and tyrannical "god" stops a religious fanatic from making everything fail. While doing so, he says "Desire is not sin. Love takes a million forms, each of them beautiful. Each of them worthy. You who judge -- just afraid".

Hello, unexpected but wholesome and powerful intersectionality !

Was. Für. Eine. Gequirlte. Scheiße. Ja, ganz hervorragend gemacht, inhaltlich aber ist die Serie eine Vollkatastrophe! Langatmig. Langweilig. Unlogisch. Gepaart mit pseudoreligiösem Quatsch. Letztlich die schlechteste HBO-Produktion, die ich bislang gesehen habe — (3/10) Punkte: schlecht.

Thank you so much!! that is the perfect creature and a really, really clever choice and I love her so much.

I really regret that we do actually have to physically meet Bee at some point because it is so much funnier not to.

I also have to say, I don’t know why people who sell their writing get so mad when people guess their plots! Like when you hear about the Game of Thrones/ Star Wars etc guys changing their plots because people were guessing plots and having theories based on the FORESHADOWING THEY PUT IN.

I am completely surprised and excited by how people’s guesses for Bee have gotten closer and closer and how many have landed on the mark. Genuinely very exciting and satisfying and not what I was expecting. The feeling is very good, and it feels collaborative and motivational.

I don’t know what the point I’m trying to make here is, but I think it’s that foreshadowing is fun to set up and also fun to pay off, and that I like it when people guess what’s going on! We are all playing a game involving lying with words and it is collaborative! I think paid media would be more fun if people had more fun making it!

Keen was born in Madrid. Her parents are English actor Will Keen, and Spanish actress and director María Fernández Ache. Her paternal great-grandfather was Edward Curzon, 6th Earl Howe. Her aunts are poet Alice Oswald and writer Laura Beatty.

Keen made her acting debut in 2015 at the age of 10, on the BBC television series The Refugees, where she starred alongside her father Will. The show ran from 2014 to 2015, ending after one season.

Keen was next cast in James Mangold's superhero film Logan as Laura, the child clone of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman. Casting director Priscilla John endorsed Keen for the role, saying that "She had an innocence and a vulnerability... people are going to fall in love with her." The film was released in 2017 to commercial and critical success, and is ranked among the best superhero movies of all time. Writing for Vanity Fair, Lisa Liebman called Keen "extraordinary" and "memorable not only for her slice-and-dice adamantium-claw action scenes but also for her ability to convey the young heroine's feral yet innocent nature."

i didnt feel like making a 500 tweet thread so here is my rambling.

you know like the thing about “genderbends” is to change things like i get it you know. like all criticism of how bioessential people get about them like its just about seeing your blorbo but like. sexy in a different way a lot of times.

and i dont really care for all that usually but i have strong opinions on shu itsuki so maybe i do care.

bc i absolutely get why you would design her incredibly rich young lady right. ohohoho and all. with the drills. but im also compelled by like. what shu idealises about dolls is androgyny right. and you can argue this is because his reference point for wearing dresses and expressing himself in a feminine way was childhood and he “got away” with it due to the nature of children. you know. being pre puberty. and that this fixation stems from like, not allowing himself to think as himself as feminine bc of his body. since he is like tall and has a deep voice and its like you know. he is like well if i looked neutral enough i could get away with it. etc.

but tbh i do wonder bc like. would going through the opposite leave no mark. would he still desire the youthfulness and innocence and androgyny of dolls.

i think it does remind me of how like. girlhood or whatever feels like such a distinct gender from being a woman right. and people think it ties into peoples immaturity and they dont want to grow up and how women aging is demonised and im sure all that plays a huge role but like. as a girl you get away with much more usually. like. as an archetype. like heidi (heidi) or lyra hisdarkmaterials or alice in wonderland or that girl in secret garden whose name i forgor. they have these spunky adventures right and theyre not supposed to be proper ladies yet.

and i feel like shu kind of falls into this similar category of like. well off kid that is allowed some freedom of expression during youth right. and its like. then the expectations shift. and obviously shu specifically has never like. really been accepted for the way he does things. like its kind of central for the character that he received massive pushback on the dolls and the frills and everything. but like he definitely holds this idealised vision of childhood freedom. right.

anyway i am rambling here is my tl;dr sadstuck. shu itsuki takes estrogen in paris and then shu itsuki big naturals becomes real and she would learn about a different type of doll dysphoria and it would be very sad and i would support her top surgery.
