HOLY SHIT I DIDNT KNOW TATSUYA ENDO RECOMMENDED KANAKANA?$?!?!?
wow.
Hiroyuki Nishimori: the goat of delinquent manga that no one knows
its clear that nishimori is very not well known overseas. but he’s considered an og mangaka that many more successful mangakas know of, especially because kyo kara ore wa is one of the most well known manga that embodies the japanese romanticism of delinquents. his other works also focus a lot on “there’s more than meets the eye to delinquents”. like for example, many of the delinquents in kyo kara ore wa (mitsuhashi, itou, imai, etc) all having a goofy side, genzo being a stupid airhead in love who would do anything, a soft spoken masaya struggling to change his accidental reputation, masanao slowly amending his ways by taking life slowly.
this unique trademark of nishimori hence makes him a cult classic and favourite in japan, with many of his works having adaptations into other media.
he also has many works outside this delinquent thing. i’ve yet to read them all, slowly doing so (because i just keep rereading cheeky angel ☠️☠️☠️).
but yea. i don’t know what i’m tryna say except HES SO GOATED. easily one of my favourite mangakas, behind oda, next to muneyuki.

Reading chapter 96 of KKOW kinda made me realize how similar Mitsuashi and Itou are to Ulbert and Touch-Me (Overlord), respectively — especially when Mitsuhashi discovered how wealthy Itou actually is.
Okay, starting off with Mitsuhashi: he's already somewhat evil and kind of a chuunibyou just like Ulbert, so him getting angry and envious of Itou for being quite fortunate just cemented the thought I have of how similar he is to Ulbert bc that man is also canonically an envious prick towards Touch-Me. lol
Itou, on the other hand, loves helping the weak or anyone in need, just like TM. Aside from being wealthy, he's also quite popular as he is respected by a lot of people bc of his personality and strength (a lot of girls are also crushing on him bc he's a gentleman and handsome in spite of his hedgehog hair lolol); underclassmen look up to him just like how Momonga looks up to TM. Plus, he has a beautiful loving gf (who's also from a wealthy family). He's quite a fortunate guy in a lot of ways and his financially struggling devious friend is blatantly envious as hell. 😅😂
Furthermore, Mitsu and Itou are also kinda similar to Ulbert and TM in terms of power/strength. Generally speaking, the former 2 are considered as the strongest delinquents in Chiba while the latter 2 are also considered as their guild's strongest magic caster and most powerful warrior, respectively.
I mean, Mitsuhashi may be incapable of literally casting magic spells, but that guy has a lot of tricks up his sleeve; pair that with his superb speed, then he might as well be considered as some sort of magician. XD
He can occassionally deal some critical damage to his opponents that he'd knock them out in one hit just like how Ulbert can one-shot other players thru his most powerful spells.
Also, he kinda looks as flashy and intimidating as Ulbert, especially at times when he's angry; he's been called a demon, devil and oni multiple times and those words are what Ulbert literally is in the game. lol
Tumblr media
Itou, on the other hand, can throw powerful punches but he can also tank so well; his body's durability is seriously impressive. He literally got hit by a car once and he still managed to get up, walk towards the enemy's den, and then whoop said enemy's ass so bad to the point that even the devious Mitsuhashi had to stop him or else he would've killed the guy.
TM is considered as a "super-tier player who could serve as a tank even though he was an attacker" and that description really matches Itou as a fighter. •‿•
Even this GIF of TM alone already reminds me of Itou. lol
Tumblr media
Anyways, here are some pages of chapter 96 that really cracked me up bc of Mitsuhashi's hilariously absurd reactions — starting off with their arrival at the Itou residence:

Power of Friendship ♡ but more on envy than empathy 😂🤣

Guess who just rewatched for the millionth time Kyou kara ore wa!! ?
Yes it was me, I’m simply obsessed with it (especially with the Italian dubbing), and especially with Nakano, I love him and his Italian voice (in the last two episodes 😂)
For this illustration I tried to mix my style with both the one from the manga and anime to give it a more ‘90s look and I really like the result 🖤
Also Due come noi (the Italian title) is one of my all time favourite manga of all times I really love it and I’m so grateful for the mangaka Nishimori Hiroyuki sensei for having created it and other manga too I really love his humor, so I wanted to tribute it and my love for it with this illustration with the main cast 🖤✨
(P.s.the words are based on what was written on the Italian cover for the dvd box…😂)

before i get into kyou kara ore wa i read all of ocha nigosu. it was good really similar lighthearted vibes to im doshiro and funabashi and kaho are funny characters but the ending was kinda underwhelming like we could've seen the actual confession scene. i also prob would've enjoyed it more if there was a better translation. overall it has some really good moments (but cheeky angel is the best so far like its the type of show i'd rewatch when i'm sad bc its comforting). i think this is where nishimori hiroyuki really figured out how to draw good looking characters.

Ramble#12 - Delinquency
This month's episode is on delinquent manga, a pretty dope but unfortunately pretty dead genre. That may just be my underexposure speaking but it seems to me that the delinquent pipeline seems to get dryer and dryer every year.
I was hoping to find a bunch of new rad delinquent manga this month but honestly it was a pretty weak month for reads but nonetheless let's get into it
top 5 delinquent manga read this month:
#5) Wolf Guy: Ookami no Monshou by Tabata Yoshiaki (complete with 117 chapters, I only got 56)
Tumblr media
Just gotta say right off the bat, even though I haven't finished either wolf guy or akumetsu by the same author I very much prefer akumetsu [spoken on before in ramble#4, Mystery, Madness & Mayhem]
Regardless the premise here in wolf guy, is basically that there's this guy that turns into something wolf like (yes a werewolf) and how his nature seems to attract bad news
My main problem with the series is how much they ask you to suspend your belief as the students are in middle school and are closer to terrorism than delinquency, it gets very very wild, a little too wild for me, fairly solid art but I would warn folks to approach with major caution if they decide to pick this up
#4) OUT by tatsuya iguchi (ongoing with 206 English chapters)
Basically the story here is a dude just got out of juvie and has to avoid trouble so he moves out of town to the sticks, and if that had played out well for him there'd be no story here. So ofc one of the first things that happens is him getting into a fight with the VP of the top gang in the area.
Luckily delinquents tend to respect guts and nobody else was around so that played out well enough for him except now he's wrapped up in the arguments of the local gangs who are on the brink of war.
My main problem with OUT is that the camaraderie usually present in delinquent manga is almost non-existent here, no vibes, just violence. I will say it's got pretty decent art, and a number of pretty neat spreads.
#3) Bakuon Rettou by Tsutomu Takahashi (complete with 105 chapters, I read 46)
Tumblr media
Basically this one dude just didn't like boredom or the normal life or something so he got involved in a biker gang as if extracurricular activities didn't exist or something.
We follow this guy through his outward and internal changes as he gets deeper and deeper into the gang.
I was really excited to get to this because of the author but I was pretty disappointed in the end, maybe because I only got halfway but at least they had the same old beautiful art I had expected.
#2) Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui (complete with 279 chapters + an anime)
Tumblr media
Fairly popular so you may have heard of it, the story goes that the main character goes back in time to save his crush by joining the gang that kills her in the future, with the goal of becoming their leader so he can prevent his crush's death.
not gonna lie I really dug it in the beginning, the premise was a two punch combo of things I loved, I mean time travel + delinquency? In any case idk my love for it just petered out, then the ending was a bit wack, crazy style on almost every character tho.
#1) Durarara!! story by Ryougo Narita and art by Akiyo Satorigi
Tumblr media
Best thing I read this month, a bit surprised since I'd already watched the anime way back when but it was still super great.
The story is that a young lad named mikado ryuugamine moves to the big city of ikebukuro for high school in an attempt to shake off his normal day to day life. He meets up with his childhood best friend masaomi kida who shows him around town and gives him all the details of strange tales, urban myths and living legends.
The story is broken up into durarara, durarara saika arc, durarara yellow scarves arc & durarara re; dollars each about 20 - 30 chapters long
top 5 delinquent manga read ever: (I go off cuff for these so no transcript, but dude trust me)
#5) Kyou kara ore wa!! by Hiroyuki Nishimori (366 chapters)
Tumblr media
#4) Beelzebub by Ryuuhei Tamura (252 chapters)
Tumblr media
#3) Holyland by Kouji Mori (182 chapters)
Tumblr media
#2) Rookies by Morita masanori (233 chapters)
Tumblr media
#1) Clover by Tetsuhiro Hirakawa (401 chapters)
Tumblr media
honourable mention: great teacher onizuka gto
thanks for listening, if you'd like to see specific scores my anilist is in the link above and additionally there's a small off cuff part 2 in the episode where I talk a little bit more about what I like about the delinquent genre

👊 Chiba's Strongest Duo 💪
Tumblr media
Takashi Mitsuhashi and Shinji Itou from Kyō Kara Ore Wa!!  (今日から俺は!!, "Starting Today, It's My Turn!!") by Hiroyuki Nishimori.  •‿•
It was published before I was born, but it's practically my comfort manga and ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SERIES EVER. ☆‿☆
I wish, through some miracle or divine intervention or whatever, that there'd be an anime reboot or something that would be faithful to the manga. The Akehisa Raid Arc and the last arc with that pest from Akehisa were my favourites (tho tbh, I loved every single chapter.) ಥ‿ಥ
