1801 -Historic-Human AU -TPB
notes + rough ideas below. tw for 'real world' racism and sexism.
Characters
-> Bluestar (Blanche) Is the 'head' of the house of Thunder, I think this just makes her a lady/lord of sorts, she controls the finances, the hiring decisions, and any military planning or involvement goes through her first. She also probably reports to the monarchy.
She dies in the conflict/war. Usually, the title and responsibilities would fall to her children but she doesn't have any, so she makes the servant, Fineen her protege and leaves him with all the money management when she dies. Out of everyone she probably actually is a duchess or archduchess or something fancy like that, but for the sake of the AU, that's not too important. She's Black-French
-> Tigerclaw (Tristain) is only well known and wealthy through his military prowess, he's the one that fanned the conflict with Bloodclan and eventually dies in battle. He is racist and classist, a reflection of his own insecurities since he grew up poor and is probably part minority.
He is married to Golden (Gwendolyn.) He does cheat on her but he still stays married to her, meaning after his death, his wealth and title goes back to her and his legitimate children*
-> Raven, not pictured. he just leaves. around this time if you desert your post and are found, you could be executed. So he stays away. only Fireheart (Fineen) and Grayson know he's alive and well. probably living just at the edge of the bloodclan border at a farm.
-> Sandstorm(Sandra) She knows how to fight, but legally isn't allowed to join the war/conflict. She's of Greek descent and unlike Dustin, has no opinion of servants. She's allowed to hunt for the cooks of the house so she hunts and explores the wild.
-> Dustpelt (Dustin) He is canonically the brother of Raven. nothing to really say, he's the same in canon.
-> Grayson. pretty much the only other servant/lower-class person in the house of Thunder. he grew up in the house of Thunder, and bonds with Fineen. same as canon, except he does not have children with Silver (Silvia) They just have a little romp that causes even more drama. He is of Pacific-Islander descent.
-> Fireheart (Fineen). Blanche is the one who hired him, before joining the house as a lowly servant and eventual military guy, he lived probably, in bloodclan with his family. He is a foreigner, poor, loser with no skills but Blanche still ends up making him the heir before she dies. He is Indian-Irish descent.
Plot Points
-> Bluestar/Blanche still has children with Oakheart/Oakley. the children are born out of wedlock and as a cover-up she and Thrushpelt probably get engaged while she's pregnant. She fakes the death of her children, however, and they end up with their father in the House of River. After this, she breaks the engagement with Thrushpelt.
-> *Even if Tiger divorced Golden before his death, the house of Thunder would've still helped Golden financially, its just she wouldn't be living...rich.
-> I'm thinking of having the houses kinda like a land with other little houses on it, like an estate? Blanche would've just been the glorified landlord.
#wc au#this is probably the only arc aside from the 4th one that'll have like actual war#txt#wc#warrior cats#warrior cat au

Hi everyone! We're here with the long awaited post on our newest bachelor, Simoun. We know you've all been abuzz with questions about him so we hope to answer some of that in this deep dive into his creation. This post is in lieu of our usual Wednesday devlogs as we've been writing this over the span of several weeks, and was co-authored, edited, and reviewed by Tobias, Jude, ToyboxToonz, Primarvelous, and Sauce. The above image was drawn by @toyboxtoonz.
You can read the full post for free on Patreon, or click the readmore to see it all!
Personally speaking, some of my concerns since Simoun's debut are thoughts like "Do people think I'm making SnaccPop Studios push an agenda?" and "Do people think I'm going through a checklist while making new characters?" It's made it difficult for us to write this quickly because this is quite personal to myself and the rest of the sensitivity consultation team on the DachaBo team.
Concept to Creation
The story of DachaBo begins way before SnaccPop Studios itself was even a concept (that's Sauce's story to tell though). Early Patreon art of Simoun exists from November 2022, back before I was signed on to manage the Patreon and any other projects besides Sunny Day Jack. Sauce had some ideas laying around for several other characters in the DachaBo universe that didn't make it into the proof-of-concept demo:
I dug up an old draft for the DachaBo cat character we teased and it featured a story concept where the cat character was originally a female DachaBo character, referencing the original female design. And overtime he got tired of how he was being treated and decided to change his own self to reflect who he wanted to be, not the sycophants who collected the toys and whatnot ... It was shelved because I didnt have the means to sensitivity check it The designs are half cooked is all but he was supposed to be Indian ethnicity coded for no other reason than I've never seen a character like that
One thing that's important to note is that there definitely are Indian folks who are gender diverse (see Hijra on Wikipedia for a quick primer on one of the traditionally recognized nonbinary genders in South Asia) so it's not a novel concept by any means, but it's also not very common in media whatsoever.
Why The Long Wait?
One of the other contributing reasons as to why Sauce wasn't able to do much with the concept at the time is because we didn't have a VA for him confirmed yet, as I explained in May:
One thing that's rather unique to SnaccPop Studios in all of my experience as a game developer is the fact that all of our series involve coordinating with Voice Actors from the start, which means we need to take the VAs themselves into account when making characters. Adding another layer of complexity in hiring is the fact that SnaccPop Studios is a strictly Erotic Adult brand focusing on masculine love interests, and even if we focus more on the softcore, there's still the unfortunate stigma that any 18+ work has when attached to your name. All of these contributing factors make the potential talent pool that much smaller. This isn't to make excuses: I know SnaccPop Studios can do better on this front. While we can't make changes to some of the existing series' main cast (we don't want to put people out of a role they've been promised), we will do better moving forward to incorporate more diverse characters into our future titles, and that's a pledge
In the field of voice acting, it's best practice to cast actors with similar backgrounds to the character they're voicing, particularly for characters from marginalized populations (ethnicity, culture, gender, etc.), because it's a recurring issue in all professions where marginalized folks are regularly turned down for employment or career opportunities. You don't have to look far for instances where other voice directors failed to cast the proper talent for a character, even in the AAA sphere where they ought to have the resources to be able to find the proper talent; at SnaccPop, we wanted to avoid that situation at all costs.
Finding Simoun's Voice
So we had to confirm a VA first before we could do anything. Sauce, Reece, and I all tried to put private ads out for a trans masc POC (any ethnicity with dark skin) actor for a R18 game, which was largely met with silence at first, then responded to by folks who didn't fit the role in a full capacity (many only hit one or two of the criteria we laid out, some of them none at all). And it's not hard to imagine why: it's common knowledge that the majority of erotic works often fetishize marginalized people who are otherwise underrepresented in mainstream media. Things such as skin color, body type, hair color, age, etc. are treated as traits to be objectified, and on the off chance that queer folks or people of color might see themselves in porn… it's usually not for the most flattering or empowering of reasons. How could we, an exclusively Adults-only studio, convince someone who isn't familiar with us that we wanted to make something for people like them rather than something that turns them into mere masturbating material?
We were almost about to give up on the Catboy until I decided to take a chance on contacting a VA whom I hadn't had any formal and proper interactions with before. I'd been a fan of his work and knew him from an audition he sent in from a previous game I had worked on, but he knew me solely by name at best since we were following each other on Twitter. Still, it was a lead, and after chewing my nails for half a day, I shot off a message to Soren Viloria.
And what do you know? He said he'd give it a shot as his first NSFW role.
Naming the Lad
Soren is a Filipino VA, and despite the fact that I myself seem to be mistaken as Filipino by other Asians quite regularly, I'm actually not as well-versed in that culture as I ought to be.
There's actually a reason why we were so secretive with Simoun's name for a while: he didn't have one yet, so internally we just kept calling him "the Catboy." We wanted to pick a culture-appropriate name for him, something that was meaningful: Soren initially suggested "Siopao" as it was a common cat name (it's a type of Filipino Steamed Bun, so think of how many pets you've seen who have names like Cupcake or Nacho Supreme), but that didn't seem serious enough for a tsundere catboy like him. A few days later, Soren did a little research on a few well-known characters from Philippine media/culture that fit the bill a bit better:
Elías from the Philippine Revolution novel Noli Me Tángere (a required reading in the Philippines). Cat may like his radical tendencies for revolution and his deep, devoted connections.
Simoun from Noli's sequel, El filibusterismo. Holds revolutionary values similar to Elías, but far less noble and more of a loner. Violent at times, and will do what it takes to get his way.
Panday/Flavio, a very popular hero. Part of his charm is that he doesn't have special powers, but took matters into his own hands and forged a magical blade. Has been portrayed in both 'cool' and comedic ways.
Ricardo "Cardo" from the Philippines' longest-running TV drama Ang Probinsyano. Just a cool action hero dude who cares about family, but is also very ambitious and angy.
Seeing as how we already had an Elias Gallagher, Simoun seemed to be the perfect fit, and the name stuck pretty easily.
Simoun's Boundaries
Now that Simoun had a name, we were able to talk about him more seriously beyond the simple "tsundere cat" tropes. You've all already met Gil Finnegan, who we originally brought into SnaccPop Studios to handle the narrative design for DachaBo but was then onboarded to help with Sunny Day Jack, and those of you in the Patreon Discord server are familiar with our mods Tobias and Jude; along with me and Soren Viloria, that brought the grand total of openly trans masculine members on the team.
We all talked about our personal experiences as trans masc/AFAB people, what things we rarely saw reflected in both mainstream and indie media, things we wanted to see more of. Something we all agreed that was difficult to find was trans masculine folks in sexually dominant roles in erotic media, whether that was live video, audio, writing, art, or a combination thereof; there was only a handful of series we could count on our fingers as far as sexually explicit content that featured trans masculine people in roles that weren't exclusively submissive/bottoms, and the majority of us had already seen those or at least heard of them before (ie. Gummy and the Doctor and Sasha From The Gym were prominent ones). Either discovering this content was difficult due to Search Engine Optimization favoring depictions of trans feminine folks, or it simply didn't exist.
All of this, along with the backstory that Sauce had for Simoun, led us to determine that Simoun would be adverse to submissive roles in intimate situations. Simoun isn't the type to want to be penetrated either due to previous trauma surrounding his gender. Bear in mind that this isn't meant to imply or suggest that there is only one "acceptable" sexual preference for trans masculine folks, nor is Simoun meant to represent all of trans masculinity; he may be our first trans masculine character but certainly isn't the last, as we hope to feature more types of characters at SnaccPop Studios.
As an aside, it should be noted that the trend of erotic trans feminine content being more readily available doesn't necessarily mean that trans women have more positive representation per se; for every kinky piece of art created by trans feminine folks out there, there could be ten more works that fetishize and objectify their bodies. We probably don't need to tell you about the common derogatory slurs that have been used to refer to them; trans feminine and trans masculine people deal with varying levels and types of transphobia as well as situations that oversexualize (or even undersexualize) them, and it's important to focus on content that doesn't strip them of their autonomy.
There actually was a period of time between the release of his concept art after Soren was onboarded where the team observed comments both on Patreon and in the Discord regarding Simoun, and we discussed how we could avoid having people try to ship Bo and Simoun together; because Simoun hasn't had bottom surgery of any kind, we wanted to ensure that tokophobia (fear of pregnancy) or dysphoria wouldn't become a thing for any of us involved in the team or for our trans masculine Patrons. It was a bit of a chicken or the egg situation, trying to keep up with the evolving comments about Simoun to try and anticipate what people might accidentally say.
Debut Day Thoughts, & Moving Forward
We were quite happy with the general reception everyone had with Simoun, and we're excited to see so many people taking a liking to Simoun after his reveal. SnaccPop Studios has always strived to provide inclusive and diverse stories for those who don't often get represented in media, much less NSFW media, and the team was quite elated to see folks who were just as happy to see Simoun.
We hope that the love and care we put into building Simoun has shone through in this post and will continue to shine as we write more of him for DachaBo, because we're just getting started.

Hot Chef! Hob + kid fic prompt
Dream has food issues okay, and for this and number of other reasons, including that he now has full time custody of Orpheus and can't just forget meals or feed his son soy sauce packets 🤷🏽♀️, Dream (well his sister) hires a home chef.
Now there will be food in the house, that Dream learns to warm up and Orpheus has vegetables to eat. What Dream wasn't expecting was a gorgeous man, covered in tattoos that come with [fun] stories, who's great with Orpheus. Many days pass where Dream breaks from writing to find Hob and Orpheus making dessert together.
Dream is smitten.
I ABSOLUTELY love this, we need more chef Hob stuff!!! He's so perfect. My preference is for Hob cooking Indian food a lot, but honestly I just love the whole idea of him in the kitchen,,, sleeves rolled up,,, tattoes on display,,,
Hob is great. Normally Dream can handle breakfast, it's the one meal he has a reasonable grasp on (pour cereal, pour milk, burn toast, make more toast, etc). But at weekends Hob comes in to do a special cooked breakfast like pancakes, omelette, vegetable umpa, oats idli (which is Dream’s new favourite thing, its the only thing he can stomach in the morning and it fills him up properly). Hob is fun to have around and it really feels like a family breakfast, which is great for Orpheus. He's really coming out of his shell and it makes Dream a little misty eyed.
Most of what Hob makes is cooked and frozen to be heated up later, but he insists on doing fresh meals occasionally. Dream is convinced that Hob just wants to make sure that he eats, and he's not as annoyed by that as he probably should be.
"Good food is my love language." Hob explains with a shy smile. "It makes me happy to see people eat."
And Dream tries to convince himself that Hob is talking about Orpheus, there, but... he's not sure. Sometimes Hob gives him steamy looks across the kitchen that Dream wants to melt right into.
Maybe he should ask Hob to make a romantic candlelit dinner for the two of them. Dream still has a fridgeload of issues, but he's smart enough to know that if he doesn't snap Hob up for himself soon, someone else is going to. A man with biceps like that who can cook?? Dream needs to put a ring on it, asap. If Hob will have him...
(He will.)

Inspired by Kathani Sharma’s hatred of English tea and the fact Anthony is absolutely WHIPPED for this woman. Here is my ficlet. Thank you a million times over to my incredible beta @tofanasmuse ilysm.
Let me know what you think, send requests anytime, and free Palestine.

Chai Love You
Kate Bridgerton still had little desire for Anthony to splash around his money on expensive gifts, despite her change in title. She appreciated living comfortably, sure, she would not deny that, but spending the family fortune on lavish clothes and hats was not something that brought her a great deal of joy.
Of course, to every rule there is an exception. They had barely stepped off the boat in Bombay, but Anthony could already see how Kate was settled in a way she never was in England. More than anything else, the flavours of this city and country were refueling Kate’s soul. Anthony tried to appreciate them, but his English palate recoiled from the amount of chili.
Anthony, like any respectable doting husband, insisted on shipping whatever spices Kate desired back to England. Unlike most gifts proffered by her husband, Kate welcomed this one most happily.
Now here Kate stands, one week past her honeymoon, as the only Bridgerton who knows how to turn on a stove, making herself chai long after everyone else has gone to bed.
“What are you doing?” Anthony asks softly, leaning against the doorframe to the kitchen.
“Oh,” Kate turns, slightly startled, “I didn’t mean to wake you when I got up. I’m making a pot of chai,” she looks back to the stove, lightly stirring the mixture of milk and spices.
“I’m most impressed you know how to,” he replies amusedly, pressing himself off the wall.
“You’re impressed I know how to make a drink native to my culture?” she raises an eyebrow.
“No, of course not,” he rushes to clarify, “that you know how to use the,” he spares a look combining embarrassment and disdain, “stove.”
“You cannot be serious,” she snorts unbecomingly, falling into uncontrollable laughter that is much too loud given the hour of night.
“Did the cook not make chai this afternoon?” Anthony huffs, resting against the table in the centre of the room.
“She did…” Kate says slowly.
“What is it, Viscountess? Lady of the household?”
“Evidently my written instructions were not clear enough. The chai the cook made was, for lack of a better descriptor, inadequate.”
“Would you like to hire a second cook? One who specialises in Indian cuisine?”
“That’s most thoughtful of you to offer,” Kate smiles, placing a terracotta cover over the flame once her chai finishes brewing. “If a household this large has always had only one cook, then I shall not change that. I will just have to teach the cook of my culture’s food.”
“And you will do a most excellent job, of that I am certain,” Anthony grins proudly.
“I will do my best, to teach a cook how to cook,” she hums bemusedly.
“Is your chai adequate, my love?” he asks fondly, watching each delicate movement of the cup to her lips.
“It is perfect,” she sighs happily, unsure how she went without it for so long during the last London season. The two months since they had left India was long enough.
“I shall see to it that we always have the ingredients you require on hand,” Anthony promises, bringing her empty hand to his lips.
“If the Bridgerton fortune is to go to a collection of spices you cannot pronounce, I will ensure it does not go to waste. I shall see to it that you learn to love chai.”

You all don't eat rice? Only roti? And for breakfast you never had readymade stuff like puffed rice with sattu? I am sorry I don't know how my tone is sounding in this ask but I am surprised to learn that those who go abroad switch to microwaveable meals not because there is a lack of Indian food, but because they can't hire anyone. They don't know how to cook? Efficiently?
I mean obviously I’m excluding easy to make dishes but I’m North Indian and eating rotis twice a day is a common expectation. also my South Indian friends also eat idlis and dosas as a base carb quite frequently which is ofc more labour intensive than just rice. Common readymade breakfasts like poha u can add water too have only been introduced very recently. It is a fact that Indian cuisine is extremely labour intensive and just dismissing that as “people not knowing how to cook efficiently” ignores the amount of labour involved and how much this daily expected kitchen drudgery hampers women’s opportunities, and the fact that most middle class families employ domestic help and the structural violence access to such cheap labour implies

Another moment from an au where Marius is the one who finds Daniel
"You don't have to be here."
"Nonsense."
"How can you even look at me? Be with me?"
"How could I be anywhere else but by your side?"
Daniel sighed, pulling his bathrobe a little tighter around him. He was cold. He was always cold these days, with how thin he was growing. It fluctuated still; he'd gain a few pounds and then get sick again, the ribs showing through his pale skin once more, shadows and bruises and lesions all mixing together.
"...I want a bath." It was a difficult admission for Daniel because he knew he couldn't do it alone. Not today. Maybe a week ago when he woke up and got coffee and walked to the corner store himself, when he napped and then was awake when Marius came to him at night, when he had done a load of laundry and put it away. When he felt better. And maybe tomorrow he could do it. He never knew what tomorrow would be but today? He hurt, inside and out, literally and figuratively. Today he'd had to sit at the clinic for three hours, watching the faces of the nurses who were so suspicious and so wary of him, and watching the one who clocked out for lunch when he walked in. And this was the nice clinic at the private hospital Marius paid for!
Marius smiled gently and bent to kiss Daniel on his cheek. The vampire, already dead, unafraid to touch Daniel. "Then come, I'll run one for you."
So Daniel was carried to the bathroom, Marius setting him down on a soft padded bench as he filled the tub with warm, fragrant water. Marius, his vampiric stalker turned obsession, Daniel turning the tables and stalking him right back, to the point of planting his ass right on top of Marius' coffin when he had found it. Marius his companion and patron and lover in the ways vampires could be. He watched him test the temperature, and then turn to Daniel. With careful and confident hands he helped Daniel undress where he could not, easily breaking off the plastic ID bracelet from around his wrist. Into his arms again, and Daniel groaned audibly as he was eased down into the water.
"Feels good," he sighed, warm again. It was winter here in France, cold as hell, and he was only warm in the bath.
"As it should." Marius helped Daniel to wash, letting him do as much as he could on his own with shaking hands. The weeks worth of sweat and oil sloughed from his body, night fevers breaking and day chills making him bundle up more. As Marius ran the soft wash cloth down his side he tried his best not to look down at his own body, but Marius saw.
"Why don't I get you take out for supper. From the Indian place you like so much?" Marius kept a hired cook for Daniel, several days of meals at the ready, but sometimes when his appetite was especially fussy he would indulge him in something he knew was terrible for him; but food was food, after all. "Get a full meal in you. Maybe a light walk tomorrow if you feel up to it-
"Or you could just turn me." Ah, there it was. Over and over they came back to this, all the more regularly as Daniel's sickness advanced.
Marius was quick to recover himself though, and barely faltered. "Your numbers are good, Daniel. I've got the best doctors for you-"
"It's been over a year. Some guys don't live this long. Or much longer." It was a bitter fruit on his tongue to admit this but it was true. Something he tried to push away most waking hours as he filled his days with distraction but death was unavoidable when being courted by both immortality and the grave.
"You're on another upswing. And my blood sustains you when you are at your most sick-"
"But you don't give me enough, Marius! You always say you're afraid to just fuel my dependence and do more harm than good, but Christ, Marius, I'm dying! You know this!" When Marius said nothing, Daniel dug up his strength and pressed on, passionate. "You don't want me to become some ghoul, alright, but there's only so much longer you can push this."
"I don't want you to grow to regret it, Daniel." Marius was quiet now, his hand still on Daniel but not moving. "Do you think I delight on seeing you consumed by this? I thought it was the alcohol that would take you, young one, not this."
"None of us fucking saw this." He reached for his neck, where a purple mark laid behind his ear, but Marius tugged his hand away to kiss the inside of his wrist. Daniel sighed. "Marius…I won't let this take me," he whispered into the steam of the bath. "I'll kill myself before it does. I'll die with dignity if not with pride."
And he meant it. And Marius knew it. He was weak to Daniel, his resolve crumbling more each day he had to wake and see Daniel struggle. To swallow his own pride, could he do it again? When each time had caused so much pain for himself and the one he loved? But to bury him, that was a deeper pain, and he closed his eyes with Daniel's skin to his lips.
/You don't have to stay with me,/ he said through the mind gift, potentially one of the last times they could use it.
/How could I be anywhere else but by your side?/ Daniel asked back, before he hissed at the feel of piercing fangs.

An alternative to Pirates of the Caribbean 6
Make it a show too. Like a long one. 25 episodes.
Pirate queen played by Jenna Ortega
First mate/Dad's old partner played by Viggo Mortensen. And hired Second Mate who gradually becomes best friends with first mate, played by Idris Elba (or they could swap roles, depending on who felt the most right in which role)
[Girl] daughter of famed pirate [pirate king] has to take over the family business when her father is killed. She's mid-20s. She loves the sea, but her father didn't really want her to grow up rough, so she's really smart and good at sewing and cooking and keeping the books and other more lady-like tasks. She lived with her mother, who is a decent nice sort of person, who definitely doesn't want her daughter to go become a pirate queen, and hates boats herself, but who knows better than to tell her daughter no, and will work with her on that. Often episodes are told through [girl] writing letters home to mother.
In the wake of her father's death at the hands of an armada that smashed the fleet and left them scattered to the four winds, she believes she has to pull the old empire back together.
She has the help of her father's best friend and first mate, who is is more than a little crushed by the loss of the man he loved like a brother, but he will devote himself to protecting the girl, will love her like she's his own. Sometimes, she appreciates this.
As [first mate] assembles a new crew, he hires a new second mate, who often annoys him, but the [new guy] is a good sailor, and has worked for [pirate king] before. Eventually they become friends, and [new guy] becomes another brother to [first mate], and another father figure to [girl].
The crew is a mishmashed motley one, plenty of room for character and diversity.
They have lots of adventures. China Seas, Indian Ocean, African coast, Mediterranean, Caribbean, the Pacific Islands... let em go everywhere!
[Girl] has a knife pistol! (See this post.) It is used very practically, but the accidents that occur are also a running gag.
The love interest for [girl] has to be a knockoff of a young Temura Morrison. Temura Morrison should be in some episodes. He's just cool. [Girl] makes friends with other girls in varying states, some rich, some poor.
[Girl] is smart, strong, learns well, makes mistakes. She works in the very long shadow of her legendary father and his great leadership. In the end she learns that she can never be her father, and that's okay. She's not a natural leader, sometimes she's prickly, and rubs people the wrong way. But she learns how to make friends better and better, and she discovers that finding a family is more important than rebuilding the empire.
She discovers that as wonderful as the sea is, being the Queen of her friends' hearts, is even better.
That would be the arc of the first season, anyway.
Also, if there's an official choosing of another captain, so [girl] doesn't have to be tied to the ship the same way, I want [first mate] to tell her it should be [second mate], and it's this really sweet conversation about how he's just not wanting to be THE leader, and [second mate] tries to protest, but [first mate] insists, that maybe the biggest reason he didn't like him at first was because he reminded [first mate] too much of [pirate king], and it's not like he can ever replace his old friend, but he doesn’t know a better man for the new job.

it is sooo rainy and cold out AND I just went to do this requested class visit at 4pm (my last thing on the agenda for today) only for the prof to ask me to come back at 4:45... which like i would've said no to the original request if i'd known it was that late!! now i have to sit around in this cold building waiting to do this 5 min pitch!!!! but ok listen here are three good things:
the baby is so active these days that sometimes in meetings he makes my whole stomach JUMP. it's very cute (to me. to other people watching it probably looks like there's an alien inside me)
liz and i were going to cook tonight but we are feeling too lazy (and also my timeline has been pushed back lol) so instead we are getting surprise takeout. YUM INDIAN FOOD YUM
yesterday was a day of feeling kind of insecure in my job but today i had a campus-level meeting with a bunch of other people who are in similar positions to me across different units and it was really good. it was interesting to watch a group of smart people inhabit/perform their jobs + present their work in a public setting to their peers... i feel like i was taking internal notes the whole time in a positive way. and then it was also encouraging to be in a space where we were talking about things i do have expertise in and could speak about more knowledgeably than in yesterday's meeting. i think it's just good to assume that if you feel really out of your depth in a professional setting it probably means you need to learn more about the specific subject at hand (as opposed to meaning that you are somehow uniquely unqualified and are about to be unmasked in front of your colleagues lol). soooo when in the former situation... try to stay curious and receptive to learning more... instead of getting in your own head about stuff... blah blah learning professional lessons blah blah.
well i have killed 30 min of the 45 i have to wait lol. i think i will send this hiring committee email and then look at gifs of my hockey guys for the last 15.

Kitchens have always been, and continue to be, flush with immigrant cooks. It always makes me laugh when people refuse to go to a Japanese or Indian or whatever restaurant with white servers because it’s “not authentic” or whatever meanwhile smart places hire servers of the ‘correct’ ethnicity while the entire kitchen is Mexican and African and Chinese because people don’t actually know the difference because the ability to cook a cuisine isn’t magically conferred through DNA.
And this is a good thing! Line cooking especially is the kind of thing that most people with the right temperament can be taught to do, it’s a good foot in the door to the culinary world, and, as here, a lot of immigrants can learn English there while perfect English mastery is not often a requirement of the actual job, assuming someone is generally quick on the ball. Also the all-important aspect of American culture ahaha.
Also, in a lot of circles like this one...saying this kind of shit to each other is normal. I have friends who say all kinds of shit to me of a Racial Flavor, if you will, and I wing it right back. Insulting your religion, ethnicity, and country of origin can be a love language ahaha.

Nava Jha
Nava Jha is a Japanese chef, restaurateur, television personality, and writer. He founded his restaurant group Fresh Flavors in XXXX, and opened his signature restaurant the Golden Plate in Tokyo, Japan. He makes a regular appearance on In the Know. He is considered one of the most influential chefs in the world.
APPEARANCE
EARLY LIFE
Nava Jha was born in Tokyo, Japan to two Indian immigrants with his mother working as a janitor at a series of apartment complexes and his father working in a factory. His parents later had another child, Jha's younger sibling Jyoti Jha.
Due to his family's low funds, Nava Jha got experimental with the food they could afford doing all he could to make a dollar store meal a five star experience. His family had nightly family dinners, which contains his fondest memories.
When he was fifteen, his father died in a factory accident and his mother passed away from illness not too long after. Jha didn't continue his education, instead heading straight into the workforce to put food on the table.
CAREER
He started to work at a restaurant and slowly climbed the ranks to Head Chef.
While working there, a producer asked if he would be interested in competing in a reality competitive cooking competition to which he agreed. He participated in the cooking competition, but was eliminated in the third round due to the judges being disgusted at his lack of high quality ingredients despite the meal tasting the same.
Despite being eliminated, he did meet another person in the industry who asked if he would be interested in appearing on the first season of a talk host show as a show personality bartender. He was hesitant, but eventually agreed to try out.
In preparation for his audition, he went against the ordered food and drinks and prepared the talk show hosts favorite foods and drinks instead. On the day of the audition, he was the last one to audition and rolled out his specially prepared meal. While the network wanted to disqualify him, Kofuyo hired him on the spot due to his consideration.
The talk show was later named In the Know, and aired on XXXX. Nava Jha was a regular on the show for the first season, having his own bar set and taking a comedic role on the show as he helped set up jokes and conversations. A notable bit is when a guest said something outrageous, Kofuyo would call Jha to make her a drink as she needed one. Nava's popularity rose during this time, and is often jokingly referred to as the secret co-host by fans due to his chemistry with Kofuyo. In the second and third season, Nava Jha got his own segment that would help mark the beginnings of the morning and night segments of the show with him making a breakfast during the morning and then a drink for the night segments.
During the second season, Jha opened his first restaurant called 'The Golden Plate' to success.
When In the Know was renewed for a fourth season, it was noted by many fans that Nava Jha had been demoted from series regular to recurring guest. In response, Kofuyo shared that Nava Jha had started filming a new show for the network that limited his schedule. It was later revealed that the new show was called Nava Jha and the Flavors of the World, where he traveled from country to country to try and learn how to cook different food. The show recieved postiive reviews, with many noting Nava Jha's eagerness to learn and his respect towards other cultures. At the end of the show, he came back to In the Know where he shared his finds with Kofuyo and the two had a meal with the live audience.
Nava Jha was promoted to regular for the fifth and sixth seasons of In the Know, but was gone for an episode due to serving as a celebrity judge on the same cooking competition he was eliminated from all those years ago. He also was gone from his bar set sometimes due to the network sending him out to different festivals and celebrations around the world to try the food.
When In the Know was renewed for a seventh season, Nava Jha was once again demoted to recurring guest due to going off to film a new show for the network. The show was revealed to be titled 'Finding the Flavor', and it is an American reality television series in which Nava Jha was invited by owns to spend a week with a failing restaurant in an attempt to revive the business. The show was an attempted reboot of the pre-quirk show Kitchen Nightmares. The show was ordered for thirty episodes, but it is notable that only twenty-nine episodes officially aired. The show had a 1:4 ratio, with every failed business Nava Jha exceeded in saving four businesses. At the end of filming, Nava Jha came back to In the Know, and shared food from the restaurants he had saved with Kofuyo.
Nava Jha was promoted to regular again for the eighth season of In the Know, but was joined by a new young apprentice chef and mixologist Maple Hoffman that he had met during his time filming 'Finding the Flavor'. When asked about his new apprentice by Kofuyo, Nava Jha said it was so she didn't feel lonely when he had to go off and film. Later, Maple Hoffman had her first solo food segment while Jha was away judging another cooking competition.
Nava Jha was demoted to recurring guest for the ninth season of In the Know, due to after his engagement special with Koyufo he had become interested in baking. He soon opened his own bakery known as The Golden Whisk, and started a new series for the network called 'Finding the Treat' where he was invited by owners to spend a week with a failing bakery in an attempt to revive the business. The show was ordered for twenty-five episodes, and all episodes aired.
Nava Jha was once again promoted to regular for the tenth season of In the Know, and he revealed in an interview that he'll probably stay at the show for the foreseeable future as he missed the banter and regularity of being a regular.
PERSONAL LIFE
Nava Jha is the older brother of famous streamer and game designer Jyoti Jha; however, Jyoti didn't reveal their family connections until they hit one million subscribers wanting to make their own career on their own merit. The two are now often seen together in Instagram posts, and Jytoi Jha sometimes shares behind the scenes stories of In the Know on their channel.
Nava Jha and Koyufo were noted for their chemistry since the first season of In the Know, and in XXXX the two revealed they had started dating. A few years later the two got engaged, and a year later got married. The two had an engagement special that aired in place of an episode of In the Know where the two went around to different bakeries and tasted different cakes and learned how to bake them. When asked about children, the two said they had a discussion about kids but with their busy schedules it was not viable to start a family at the moment.
In an interview with the two, it was revealed Koyufo was the one to ask Jha out. She said that he always gave her leftovers to take home since she often didn't have time to make herself dinner. One day when he gave her leftovers, she realized she has feelings for him and asked him out.
Nava Jha has shared their quirk on television, saying it was called Recipe and it made it so he could identify all the components it took to make something. At first he thought it applied just to food, but later learned it applied to other things. It does not tell him how to make something though just the component and amount.
PUBLIC IMAGE
Nava Jha is often regarded as the 'Anti-Ramsey', a reference to a pre-quirk chef. This title comes from his more calm approach to teaching, and when helping failing restaurants does his best to keep the restaurant theming in tact even if it conflicts with his personal tastes.
When questioned about the unreleased episode of Finding the Flavor, Nava Jha shared that he felt personally uncomfortable airing the episode due the sheer amount of abuse displayed. Later, Maple Hoffman revealed she was from the restaurant in the unaired episode, and was grateful Jha got her out of a horrible situation.
Nava Jha is a non-playable character in the game Hero Shock in the Japan Campaign Path. He is found at the In the Know set where he gives out a quest asking the player to bring him ingredients for Madame Magic's surprise birthday party. At the end of the quest, he gives the player his bond item called the Golden Knife of Flavor. When the Golden Knife of Flavor is equipped it helps regenerate health. When the Golden Knife of Flavor is equipped on Madame Magic, his bond effects will come into play regenerating both health and energy and giving her random buffs. He was released in the mini update Magic of Cooking alongside Madame Magic and the introduction of a cooking mechanic.
Nava Jha's net worth is about sixty-five million dollars.

A Walk Across The Ruins Of Nalanda
And there I stood..right at the main gate. On the path leading into the realms of the bygone era. The eyes were firmly fixed on the whirlpool of red bricks. The mind hopes to unravel the mysteries attached to the spot, once a sacred site of an uninterrupted transmission of knowledge over 800 years !!!. And the heart hoping against hope to turn back the sands of time, and become a part of the legends and folklores that inspire educationists and knowledge hunters to throng to the ancient site in probably one of the remotest parts of the modern world !!!
Being an ardent history lover and a necrophiliac by heart, the ruins of Nalanda had always tantalized my conscience, weaving a web of a relentless desire to explore and roam around the legendary site, and experience the marvel of the most ancient University of the Indian Subcontinent !! After all, the present-day ruins of Nalanda were a center of learning from the 5th century to 1200 AD.
A serene sight of the well-manicured gardens, merging with the ruins in red bricks, welcomed me as I set foot into the heart of the compound, now designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Sight !!! I hired a Govt approved guide to understand the intricacies attached, and extract some relevant meaning out of the pile of those red bricks of one of the first residential universities in the world !!
As we walked across the campus, my imaginative mind could not stop drawing a picture of what this place might have looked like in its heydays !!! An architectural masterpiece to say the least !!
Nalanda’s existence can be traced back to the 5th-6th century BC, as both Buddha and Mahavira are said to have visited and delivered lectures in the village !! Nalanda was perfectly placed on the trade route connecting the nearby town of Rajgir, the then capital of the mighty Magadh Empire. According to some sources, Emperor Ashoka built a great temple in the village during the 3rd century BC !!
But the noted history of Nalanda began under the glorious Gupta Empire. The foundation stones of the university are said to have been laid down by the 5th century Gupta Emperor, Kumaragupta I (415-455 AD). Many additional monasteries and temples were gradually constructed by his successors. Post the Gupta Empire, Harsha, the 7th century Emperor of Kannauj, is attributed to have taken important steps to maintain the University’s appeal !!
The guide further elaborated that during its zenith, the Mahavihara (University) contained up to 10,000 students and 2000 teachers !! The subjects taught ranged from Economics and Political Science to Metallurgy and Logic !! Such was Nalanda University’s aura and appeal that it saw students and scholars from Turkey, Korea, Japan, Persia, China, and Indonesia flock to its revered environs to grasp knowledge in its purest medium !!
We roamed around the campus soaking in the aura and coming across ruins of numerous hostels, temples, monasteries classrooms, and meditation halls. I even made my way inside a small room with a dark spot on the ceiling. “It used to be the kitchen”, told my guide !! “The students used to cook their meals during those days “, he further elaborated. The rice grains are still kept preserved at the Nalanda Museum, located right opposite the entrance.
I still remember the goosebumps I experienced the moment I stepped into a student’s room !! The stone bed and study temple can still be seen. There was a small circular pit at one corner of the study table, which is assumed to be an ink pot!! Standing in the middle, I could visualize the room lit with a lamp and a student engrossed in his studies !! Didn’t want to act as a hindrance to his concentration, so we decided to step out and continue with my exploration !!
“But how did it all end”, I enquired my guide. It's a question that had been burning inside me for the last few minutes. Since I started realizing the impact and the sheer importance the University held all around the world in those days. I wondered how could something of this nature could suddenly cease to exist.
I learned that the decline and the subsequent end of Nalanda University happened hand in hand with that Buddhism in those times. Since the 7th-8th century AD, the gradual rise of Hindu philosophy led to the waning of Buddhist following among the common Indian.
And the final blow came in the form of the Muslim invasion across Northern India during the 13th century. According to legends, around 1200 AD, a Muslim ruler by the name of Bakhtiyar Khilji, on his plundering spree, presumed the large University structures and the legendary Nalanda University Library to be a fort. He attacked the university and set the library on fire, gutting its believed collection of around 9 million books !!! The colossal library kept burning for months to come !!
It was evening by the time my tryst with the ancient Nalanda Mahavihara approached its highly unwanted end. As the slanting golden rays of the sun announced the fast-approaching twilight, I stood still in the middle..watching the red bricks erupt in a shade of honey glaze. Wanting to narrate the glorious stories from the past. Singing the lullabies of something mightier than power…Knowledge it is !!

oh i know, i know its the system and the capitalism and all the other things that tell me im caught here, but i can feel everything around me being made of blood. every made in china sticker, every factory made garment from bangladesh, all of it is just a global network of misery. and then if you're in india, all the land you live on is the product of caste exploitation. i sit on a highway that used to be farmland, my apartment was made by workers brought from Bihar. people hire domestic workers and pay them not enough to cook and then say shit like "you have to supervise them so it's better they come during holidays." the apartment is made with thin walls and no concept of having architectural solutions for the Indian summer heat, and that means i use the AC for two hours and feel guilty.
oh i know. i know the market hates me more than i hate myself. but sometimes i can really fucking give it competition because i AM the market. i can feel the loss of nights and years and time and labour for me to live a bare minimum of a decent life with zero stability because there are no non contractual jobs in my field and i hate that too because even that is eeked out by the misery of others. how much do those who have more live on top of bones? how much blood are we living on? every shampoo bottle reminds me only of the cost, the cost and more of the cost. when are we ever going to manage to balance the ledgers?
#labour#capitalism#hello void this is ridiculosity#modernity and all the problems that come with it#indian politics

peter pettigrew was nineteen years old when he discovered his girlfriend was pregnant. anita kamdar, a muggle girl who’d accepted him just as he is. who was ecstatic instead of freaked out when he told her of his magic, who found all the qualities peter considered flaws to be endearing, who helped him overcome his insecurities and fears of never fitting in. everything was so perfect and now it was all ruined. peter had just graduated. he was working two jobs and barely could afford the bills. he could not raise a child. he didn’t know how to be a father; hell, he never met his own. he hated it; feeling like a coward once again, like the kid that followed james and sirius around. the child would be better off without someone like him, peter thought.. so he disappeared from anita’s life.
jasper was raised by his mother and grandmother. they owned a small restaurant at coventry and typically worked from sunrise to sunset. there was too much work and they couldn’t afford to hire more staff, so jas pretty much grew up there. anita was a great mum, but most of the time jas had to rely on himself which is why he grew to be so independent and an amazing cook. by the time he was nine, he wanted to start helping around in the kitchen.
jas showed signs of magic quite early; anita tried to fill him in on everything she knew of the wizarding world from peter, but it wasn’t much help. jasper discovered he enjoyed experimenting with magic. at the age of eleven, he got his letter from anthelm. it was a whole new world for jas, who’d been raised as a muggle, but he was a quick learner.
TW DEATH!! his grandma passed when he was eleven; his mum when he was fifteen. jas had no living relatives he knew of and expected to be placed at an orphanage. END OF TW that’s when peter pettigrew showed up in his life. peter didn’t know how to bond with jas. jas on the other side thought it was a bit too late for peter to play the father role. peter didn’t know what he was doing, that much was evident, but he was trying.
personality wise, jas mostly keeps to himself. he’s cynical, reserved and aloof. after his mum’s death he closed up. major trust issues. not a bad person, but hates getting attached to people so he’ll mostly keep his distance, both emotionally and physically. crazy smart. has encyclopedic knowledge of the most random topics. excellent grades with minimum effort.
