The idea that some pagans have that you cannot view a deity as a lover, a close friend, as your child, as your parent, is so funny to me as someone who is both Hindu and pagan
In bhakti, there are different types of Bhava, or feelings. There is Shanta Bhava, where the devotee is peaceful. Dasya Bhava, where one serves the deity wholeheartedly and finds joy and bliss in service. Sakhya Bhava, where the deity is a friend of the devotee. Vatsalya Bhava, where the devotee sees the deity as their child. Madhurya/Kanta Bhava, where the devotee sees the deity as their lover.
And to call these practices "humanization of deities" just feels disrespectful to me. If you don't understand it then that's completely fine. But to disrespect forms of devotion just because you think it's "too weird to be real" is just not okay.

right winged indians are so (i don't want to utter that word) when it comes to media literacy but all of them literally grew up in godi media so i cannot blame them either. like no one is saying INDI alliance is good. it's just the lesser evil out of the two.

on the banks of Gaṅgā
you held me all night, my Lord unseen to the eye, your grace, a lover's touch, wrapped my skin unheard to the ears, your name, my japa, vibrated through my braincells
Monsoon One, do you long for me as fully as i long for you? do you call on me as ardently as i call on you? you do, don't you, my Lord? i am not alone in this quest
for every step i take towards you, you take two towards me for every tear i spill in yearning for you, you ignite vīrya in my skin tissue for every test of yours that i fail, you yank me freer of delusion
i see it now, Hari. you have been pulling me by my hair and hands to you. it was all you. it was always all you.
if i run to you as fast as my legs can take me, will you meet me halfway?
you will, won't you, my Lord?
🦚 Happy Kṛṣṇa Janmāṣṭamī! 🙏 poem from my upcoming collection "the Monsoon One and the pilgrim". 💛

Hanuman, to Sita: Why do you put sindoor, Sita ma?
Sita: So my husband gets a long life.
Hanuman: Ouuuuuu.
*The next day*
Sita:

Hanuman: What?
Ram: Wha-... why are you all red from head to toe?
Hanuman: *smiling excitedly* It's vermillion, not red. Also, my hair's still black!

With his neck consecrated by the flow of water that flows from his hair, And on his neck a snake, which is hung like a garland, And the Damaru drum that emits the sound "Damat Damat Damat Damat", Lord Shiva did the auspicious dance of Tandava. May he give prosperity to all of us.
[Happy Father's Day to the universal father💙💙]

The house feels empty, without the sounds of your anklets clinking as you run around the house. The lone cradle swings without you. The birds have stopped chirping. The wind has stopped blowing. The gopis have stopped smiling. Yamuna has seemed to dry. Vrindavan has lost its shine, its life. Your maiyya, kanha, she has lost everything the day you left.
Bada natkhat hain re, krishna kanhaiya, Kaa kari yashoda maiyya?
Tumblr media
I have prepared makhan for you, the gopis have hung the makhan. They are waiting for you, Kanha, to come and break the pot and steal the makhan. I want to see your makhan-ladden face, lalla. I want to hear you call me maiyya, Kanha. My eyes yearn for you, lalla. You liked playing hide-and-seek with me. Come out, now, stop playing, lalla. Your maiyya is tired of seeking. I won't punish you, lalla. I will give you all the love you want, lalla. Just come back to, maiyya. Why did you flow away like the winds, Kanha?
Dhunde re aakhiyan, tujhe chaaron or, Jaane kaha chup gaya, NandKishor, Udd gaya jaise purwaiya, Kaa kari Yashoda Maiyya?
Kanha, you know, when everyone first saw you, they were enchanted, to say the least. But, there was no one who could match my happiness. You had gifted me a new life, lalla. Your toothless giggles, your tiny burps, your cute little hands stretching out to me. Oh lalla! It was as if Narayan had gifted me eternal happiness. Even the gopis, they used to gather around you, stay with you, all day long. They used to play with you, sing you lullabies, and what not. You had changed the life of everyone, lalla. You had changed the Brajabasis' life. You had filled it with happiness. You had enchanted them with your murli and they started calling you "manmohan", "murlidhar".
Mere jeevan ka tu, ek hi sapna, Jo koi dekhe tohe, samjhe woh apna, Sabka hain pyaaara tu, bansi bajaiya. Kaa kari, Yashoda Maiyya?
Oh Kanha! Oh you Natkhat Makhanchor, come back to maiyya! Steal the makhan! Please, lalla, come back. Go to the gopis' house and steal their makhan! Please, stay here, with me, in my lap, let me feed you the bhog with my hands! Please let the sound of your murli reach my ears. Oh my ladla! I will never punish you. I will never hold your ears. I will never scold you. Come and steal the laddoos from the prasad, come and tease me while I'm cooking. Do anything, Kanha. Just come back to maiyya. Your maiyya cannot survive this separation. How will you survive this, Kanha? You are just a kid. How can you leave me like that, lalla? Come, lalla, let me shield me from the world, come to my embrace lalla, please. Please come back to maiyya.
Aaa tohe main, gale se laga loon, Laage na kisi ki nazar, mann main chupaaloon~ Dhoop jagat hain re, mamta hain chaiyyan, Kaa kari, Yashoda Maiyya?

I recently realized a lot of my writings with my divine feminine visions are very seasonal. Many goddesses are seasonal, and even if not they have their own holy days marking seasons afterall. Makes me think of Kali in particular whose name comes from the Sanskrit root word “kal” which means time 🌞  काल  🌚 along with denotations of death, as integral to the nature of time.
It is unpopularly theorized that the word “calendar” itself has its etymological root in Kali reverence by the Romani people who were found throughout the ancient Roman empire. The word for calendar shares the root sound “kal” throughout over a dozen European languages until this day. According to formal acedemically recognized etymology “calendar” comes from Old French calendier, from Latin calendarium (account book), from kalendae (the first day of the month), from calo (to announce solemnly, to call out (the sighting of the new moon). 🌚 Those who know of the ancient tradition of monthly Romani rituals which called aloud to Kali every new moon (associated with Her blood flow) theorize along with these definitions that Kali is where we get “calendar” in a kind of ancient cultural appropriation.
All European language etymology studies tend to lead back to Latin even in instances professed to be only a vague theory, further obscuring from history countless native languages of the “barbarians” conquered by ancient Roman colonization. The history of how subsequent European cultures since Romanization have oppressed Romani peoples as “Gypsies” up to today is inherited from Roman culture. Why wouldn’t these systems actively repress the truth of any such influences? So with that in mind I think why not Kalinder?
PS! ”rom” is a Romani word for “man” and so the similarities of Roman and Romani are not etymologically linked as some have assumed, mistakenly believing that Romani means “from Rome” in the way that the derogatory term Gypsy meant “from Egypt”. The Romani have their roots in India.
