"rei," you might ask, "why the fuck are you making genin teams for the parents in naruto? why are you giving them jounin-senseis and intended specialties?"
my answer is "i cannot fucking tell you. to torture myself i guess"
#keg wrecks#satsuverse#anyway so i think it's fanon? that shibi / hiashi / tsume are in a genin team together#so i'm taking that but making it so that shibi and tsume are on a genin team w hiashi's wife#satsuverse and shionverse are like. adjacent. in terms of kushina & minato's teams#it's to conserve my worldbuilding so i dont need to re-invent teams for them#so kushina was on a team w mikoto and oc himoto & they had an akimichi jounin-sensei#and their team was focused on diplomacy#minato was on a team with oc saki and . an oc i have to make for satsuverse to replace shion#in satsuverse saki dies :( officially 'missing in action' but actually danzo & orochimaru got him#after he discovers his mokuton#the team is still 'no-name civilian-borns w high potential' tho. led by no-name civilian-born jiraiya :)#probably front-line specialty idfk#i have hiashi & hizashi on the same genin team bc identical twins#(which in most cases means 'very close; don't force the separation' but when it comes to hyuuga twins......)#and yet again. fugaku. fugaku my problem child whose team i havent come up with yet#but i know hes not with any other uchiha and hes not with hyuuga#'rei are you actually writing satsuverse or are you just worldbuilding'#i swear that one day ill have worldbuilt enough and i will FINALLY not be stopped within a few paragraphs to ask myself#another fking question that cld be answered by a family tree or. genin teams for every person#for whom that cld be relevant.

Mark, I'm disappointed. Kaito has been a major face of the past two sets (DSK and FDN), and we *still* don't have a Himoto card. When will this injustice be righted?
I believe it’s just a matter of time.

Don't mind me, just reposting all the stuff I had posted on twitter regardless of how relevant it is
I need to create something. I must produce something with my hands or I'm gonna explode. I'm gonna draw Himoto smoking a massive joint.

“Whoa, what the heck is that?”
“I…think it’s a blueprint of some kind, Kaito.”
“For what, a person?”
“…For you.”
“Oh.”
The Wanderer pushed past Kaito to inspect the schematic more closely, doing so quietly, so as to not alert any of the sentries patrolling the Phyrexian laboratory. A picture of a metallic, multi-limbed ninja stared back at her, prompting her to shudder.
“They’re already figuring out how they want us dressed up…”
“Psst! Your emperorness!” Kaito hissed sarcastically.
“I thought I told you not to call me-”
“Does this one look like you?”
The Wanderer’s eyes widened. She wheeled around, and stared past Kaito to glimpse her own likeness, compleated and adorned with the porcelain plates typical of Elesh Norn’s troops.
“So they want me to serve under…her,” growled the Wanderer. “I realize there is a very real chance for failure, here, but no matter what happens, I will not bow down to that tyrant Norn.”
Kaito chuckled under his breath as he wandered back over to his own picture. “I doubt she’d give you much of a choice. That aside…You know, I kinda like what they’ve got planned out for me. Multiple arms could come in…handy. Wait, is that Himoto? Those monsters!”
Meanwhile, the Wanderer continued glaring at her own schematic. “Why am I so…Wait, where’s my hat? They put one of those…head boomerangs on me, too? That’s just insult to injury!”
The two planeswalkers again faced each other, and exchanged annoyed glances. This lasted only a moment, however, before the two broke down into quiet giggling.
“Promise me, Kaito,” the Wanderer murmured, “that, if we both…turn…You won’t let me end up like…that.”
Kaito leaned into a deep bow. “So long as you can promise me and Himoto the same, your emperorness.”
The Wanderer clenched her fists. “For the last time-”
“Who’s there?”
The two planeswalkers panicked, and frantically fled the laboratory, away from the robotic voice. The schematics remained hanging on the wall, staring out ominously at the now-empty room.

Chapter 2 of the Duskmourn story. I will continue liveblogging Tyvar and Friends below the cut.
- The himbo life didn't choose Tyvar, Tyvar chose it.
- Niko definitely seems like they've got a chip on their shoulder so far. Losing their spark must've affected them quite a bit. Being all about freedom and choosing their own path and suddenly having a bunch of paths closed to you. Still does seem silly to doubt that someone can read the air when you just proposed that the house changes shape and you've got magic mirror shard powers. No doubt the heroic attitudes of Theros have also shaped how they handle things too. Must also be why Tyvar is so fond of them, similar glory-hero cultures.
- Housing complex? It's quite simple to me. But no, kitchen connected to bedroom isn't nonsense. That's the dream.
- nice Homer reference
- creepy carnival inside a haunted house? Truly this is the modern horror set.
- Niko's an anti-monarchist. Makes sense, I guess, if Meletis is the stand in for Athens in Theros.
- Niko aligning Tyvar with Birgi just makes me want a Jund Tyvar card so bad. Jund fight matters perhaps?
- So our teams are Tyvar and Zimone, Wanderer and Niko, and Kaito and Himoto. I bet Zimone loses her glasses at some point.
- It is very unfortunate that the Wanderer's true name is forbidden.
- Tyvar was not born to hear a lecture about quantum physics.
- Taking on the physical characteristics of the Malevolent Haunted House doesn't seem super smart. I hope this isn't like a "Lukka bonding with a Phyrexian" moment.
- Having characters overtly recoil at memories of the Phyrexians is good. I like when magic story feels continuous even when it jumps around between planes every set. The haunted house set is perfect, narratively, as well. The House serves as a physical reminder of some past that cannot be returned to, regret and mourning shaping the genre.
- Duskmourn reminds me of Amonkhet in some ways. The world as it once existed is dead and has been supplanted by something new. It would be interesting to see characters react like Nissa had on Amonkhet when she tried to reach out to its worldsoul. Serve as another inescapable reminder of the perversion of this place.
- I had never considered the universal translator of moving between the planes wouldn't affect text. Seems like a pain.

i caved and made a spidersona! meet spider-ai!
For more information: So I saw the new Spider-Man spiderverse movie and
Across the Spider verse spoilers below!
*** Name: Kokoro Kumomoto/Spider-Ai Age: 24 Universe: Earth-4649 (or yo-ro-shi-ku, meaning thank you in the Goroawase word play) Spider-man powers: She can "purify" bad guys with her sparkly "venom magic" temporarily, as well as construct barriers and use happiness-charge precure-styled sub attacks. Catchphrase: Kumo-Kawaii! (Spider-Cute!!)
Likes: Her GF Midori Tategami (before she died), dogs, cute things, sparkly things Dislikes: Green peppers, people who decide to hurt others, being taken advantage of, getting dirty
Postive traits: Kind-hearted, plucky, brave, determined. Negative Traits: Ditsy, easily tricked, naive, stubborn.
Backstory:
Kokoro Kumomoto was chosen by a spider guardian robot, named Ai, back when she was about to take her entrance exams for high school. Being the bubbly girl that she was, Kokoro used her inate connection with the robot to fight Dr. TakoHachi (surname literally meaning Octopus Eight) and his evil magical girl monster creations. She became marketable, her likeness showing up in toys, towels, even...some less than savory stuff. But being the "Kumo-Kawaii" girl that she was, she managed to perfectly balance her schoolwork and hero work, even graduating at the top of her class. She was over the moon, and her life was perfect.
But that was 8 years ago. Now she works as an accountant, and has to increasingly hide her silliness, Himoto Umaru Chan style. Her girlfriend became a police chief...and died. Her dog, Ame, was killed by a freak accident during her patrols, and the shock of being the monster of the week gave poor Uncle Shen a heart attack. Even her plucky, quippy self was becoming less marketable, as much like teen idols of the time, nobody liked it when a young adult japanese buisness woman acted like she did back then...
Luckilly, she was chosen by the Spider Society. Unluckily, it was after Gwen gathered a rebel faction to help save Miles, and a desprate Miguel wanted to stop them, as well as keep his society in line with the "canon event" theory.
Even if it meant using a magical spider girl's powers to change their minds...

This is kind of a meme answer, but I love telling people about Manatarqua. She showed up for a single scene during the novel Planeswalker. Planeswalkers back then were basically all total assholes who thought they were gods, because they basically were. Manatarqua's deal was trying to establish a little safe space for non-asshole planeswalkers to hang out
She did this by being a gazebo. See, oldwalkers didn't actually need physical forms, they were just mana held together by willpower. (For example, the only concrete part of Urza's body were his powerstone eyes.) We met her when Urza and Xantcha went to the gazebo party to ask around about Phyrexia, I think? Then another walker arrived and blew it up, and I don't think we ever really learned what happened to the others there
Fun fact #1: that was on the plane of Gastal, which was mentioned in canon for the first time in 24 years in Thunder Junction! It's the home plane of Akul
Fun fact #2: Manatarqua also traveled with a blind dwarven woman. There is zero evidence either way and there never will be, so I confidently assert that they were girlfriends
MTG LORE FANS, please tell me about (random) characters from mtg stories you're obsessed with/a fan of/you just think they're neat, i'm trying to find the most fun bits of mtg lore
#in terms of modern lore i desperately want himoto to get a card this year#she's in marketing for duskmourn and foundations! there's a decent chance!#mtg

Gosh, it is so interesting how such common kanji can be combined and read in such unexpected ways. Even with a million monkeys and a million typewriters, I would not have thought to read 日下 as Kusaka. (Does that analogy make sense here? The monkeys are helping me guess.)
To complicate things further, both characters have tons of readings, so 日下 can also be read Hinoshita, Hishita, Hishimo, Himoto, Hika, Hikage, Hige, Nichige, Nichika, Nichishita, or Nikka.
日 means sun, day, or Japan, and it's also used as the counter for days. It can be read hi, -bi, -ka, nichi, or jitsu.
下 means down, and by extension, below, beneath, low, inferior, to descend, or to give. It can be read shita, shimo, moto, sa.geru/sa.garu, kuda.ru/kuda.su/kuda.saru, o.rosu/o.riru, ka, or ge. It's a lot to remember, but these vocabulary words do come up a lot, so you'll get it.

Hi i don't know the technical term for this, but are Kaito and Himoto bonded the same way Chishiro and Kaima were? Or do they just travel the planes together?
Also do all people bonded to kami in Kamigawa have those little floaties around them as a sign they are bonded to kami, or are those the kami themselves? I ask beacuse it's been pointed to me that Kaito doesn't have those.
That's an interesting question. Kaito and Himoto are bonded in some way. Is it the exact same way as other channelers? Probably not?
See, bonded channelers get magic through the Kami. I doubt they have the wisps floating around them all the time, probably mostly when they channel their patron kami's magic.
Kaito already had his own Magic, and Himoto is a higher order of kami than most you'll see people bonded with, probably only lesser to Kyodai and the Wanderer, and we don't see the Wanderer with the wisps either. Himoto is also 'encased' with Kaito's drone, rather than reaching out across the spirit realm to the material realm.

For the WIP thingy, 🗣 and 👻
🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP
i am so excited to talk about this FSHLFSG so i always find multi-chaptered fics super intimidating and i have this thing planned out from start to finish and written about 20k words for it but im too scared to post it unless im at least halfway done bc i dont want to risk abandoning it 〒▽〒
i dont even know if anyone in this fandom knows about these books, its a beyblade x all for the game crossover, you dont need to know anything about aftg, its just the setting but then with the mfb characters and beyblade instead of exy. kyoya is neil (obviously, its me duh) and on the run from his dad and gets recruited for the metal state spirits, a pretty decent college beyblade team. it has its two star players gingka (kind of a mix of kevin/matt) and ryuga (andrew; yup this is ryukyo) who convince kyoya to accept the offer despite him knowing it will put him at risk.
so theyre all in college, and the spirits are gingka as the team captain, then ryuga, kenta, hikaru, benkei, yu and kyoya. ryo is the coach. hyoma the team's physician. hokuto is their psychiatrist lmao.
i dont want to reveal everything yet bc there is some mystery there especially if you dont know the books (and even if you do cos i did make a lot of changes to the original plot); but ill put a short scene at the bottom under the cut if that interests anyone
👻Is there a scene that you find intimidating that you have yet to write?
tbh anything that is very introspective is intimidating to me and i am in particular talking about the dark trio and the dark power right now because thats a thing i promised and desperately wanted to do for mayblade but i am struggling so hard with how exactly to go about this. i have a whole word document dedicated to how the dark power affected each one of the dark trio but the how and why of the conversation(s) they would have about that completely eludes me at the moment bc i need it to be at least kind of in character and it has so many references in canon which is exhausting and intimidating both. i am honestly just writing all the other prompts i still have for mayblade first and probably will be leaving this one for last or until i have a sudden flash of inspiration. you never know.
the worst thing about this is that i have several ideas for several short fics talking about the dark power and the dark trio or just tsubasa or just hikaru (kyoya just wasnt as affected lol) but obv still have the same problem for these. i am so fascinated by what you could do with these kids and their trauma i just wish i knew how to go about it haha ha... ughhh
okay heres the snippet for the aftg crossover:
Kyoya only realizes his mistake once it's already too late. He's too engrossed in teaching Gingka a lesson that he doesn't notice another person appear behind Gingka until they grab his T-shirt and violently yank him around. Kyoya’s back slams against the row of lockers next to the door to the locker room. Ryo angrily shouts, "Ryuga!" but gets no response.
Internally, Kyoya sighs in exasperation. Gingka Hagane and Ryuga Himoto. He is in a room with the two people he has vowed to keep as far away from as possible. In his mind he sends a quick prayer heavenward and apologizes to his mother for all the stupid decisions that have brought him into this situation.
Ryuga fixes him with an unreadable stare of golden eyes. His hands are still clutching Kyoya's shirt, but he looks composed, almost bored. Kyoya returns his gaze with hostility, but knows he wouldn't win a fight against Ryuga because he is taller and in a decidedly more advantageous position than Kyoya.
However, when nothing happens after a few moments, he realizes that this is just Ryuga's intimidation tactic and forcefully tears himself away, taking a few steps back from Ryuga.
He looks at Ryo, whose attention is on Ryuga, a disapproving twist at the corners of his mouth. "Is that your usual tactic for recruiting new bladers?" Ryo turns his attention back to Kyoya. "Because the tactic sucks."
Gingka laughs briefly and Ryo sighs, running a hand over his face, exhausted. "No," he says, rolling his eyes. "It's not our normal tactic. But we usually don't have such a hard time convincing new bladers to join us."
"That surprises me," Kyoya replies dryly which elicits a resigned smile from Ryo.
#why is it so hard to pick just one scene for this haha#thank you for the ask!!#lady monologues#<- will tag everything w this so yall can block it if you dont want my long ass answers clogging your dashboard#and every future ask game i may do

Magic Story Spoilers
Okay, are WotC actually going to lean into the bitter irony of the sheer number of de-compleations by having Duskmourn be the Strike Force reunion or what?
Assuming it's actually Jace, not the House or some third party pretending to be Jace?
The illusions say Jace, the fact that Jace has access to a living planar map sa- wait, fuck, scratch the Strike Force reunion thing... did Jace actually lure Nashi to Duskmourn [and probably steal Tamiyo in the first place, but that would be to get info about Loot]?
Like, either to use the Wanderer as a mass escape plan, having ventured to the plane as part of his plans to learn how to reshape the multiverse, or... stealing Himoto by using Nashi to lure Kaito in (I mean, the whole multiverse is being remade anyway, it's not clear anyone other than Vraska, Loot, and maybe Jace's mom is making the cut). Kaito probably kept his spark because his spark is a cute kami, and Jace would want to restore Vraska's spark.
(alternatively, his plan has been plagiarised from Bolas, this is his "release the Eldrazi to create a group of heroes")
Also, like... does Kaito know how good Jace is at illusions? Because I'm not sure how well-known that is, and the giant illusion would thus be a hint to the reader that no, really, this is Jace.
(I guess we'll get some hints in the DVD commentary...)
