This is my new eladrin, Hilen. (can you keep a secret? That’s only his stage name) His music’s very... avant-garde, and he’s self-taught.
Don’t ask why I draw, only look at it when I do.

Saturday with East Moonwingian - Counting
Amenisi!
Today we're gonna learn how counting evolved in East Moonwingian.
The language preserved the three counting systems from Old Moonwingian.
Personal - Used for counting people, mix of decimal, vigesimal and quinary
Non-personal - Used for counting anything that doesn't fall under personal, mix of decimal, vigesimal and quinary
Magical - Used for casting spells, decimal
Let's examine how to count. On the left there will be the personal system, on the right the non-personal and on the right the magical.
0 - Mem / Mem / Ka
1 - Lam / Ülin / San
2 - Tem / Tim / Sün
3 - Sem / Sem / Ken
4 - Pin / Püm / Kim
5 - Kin / Sa / Sin
6 - Lan / Li / Kalin
7 - Ten / Ti / Pim
8 - Sen / Se / Pakin
9 - Pen / Tüm / Takin
10 - Telen / Tin / Siná
11 - Telen lam / Tin ülin / Siná san
12 - Telen tem / Tin tim / Siná sün
13 - Telen sem / Tin sem / Siná ken
15 - Sem kin / Sem sa / Siná sin
20 - Talen / Tülen / Sün siná
30 - Talen telen / Tülen tin / Ken sin
35 - Talen sem kin / Tülen sem sa / Ken siná sin
40 - Tem talen / Tim tülen / Kim siná
100 - Hilen / Halen / Sam
10000 - Sa / Saka / Sag
88311 - Sen sa pin talen sem hilen telen lam / Se saka püm tülen sem halen tin ülin / Pakin sag pakin siná ken sam siná san
Again the difference between cardinals and ordinals is placement in the sentence. Before the thing you count and it's cardinal. After the thing you count and it's ordinal.
And there's one more word for the day!
Tasen - (noun/determiner) Dozen
Nom. - Tasen (sing.), Timtasen (dual), Tasenja (plur.)
Pos. - Tasin (sing.), Timtasin (dual), Tasinja (plur.)
Obj. - Tasen (sing.), Timtasen (dual), Tasinja (plur.)
Inst. - Tasenen (sing.), Timtasenen (dual), Tasenenja (plur.)
And you can use this word in all three systems! What a wonder brought by evolution...
That will be all for today!

31 And these [are they] whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest. 32 And they ministered before the dwelling-place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and [then] they waited on their office, according to their order. 33 And these [are] they that waited with their children. Of the sons of the Kohathites: Heman a singer, the son of Joel, the son of Shemuel, 34 The son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, 35 The son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, 36 The son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, 37 The son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, 38 The son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel. 39 And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, [even] Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea, 40 The son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchiah, 41 The son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, 42 The son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, 43 The son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi. 44 And their brethren the sons of Merari [stood] on the left hand: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch, 45 The son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah, 46 The son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer, 47 The son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi. 48 Their brethren also the Levites [were] appointed to all manner of service of the tabernacle of the house of God. 49 But Aaron and his sons offered upon the altar of the burnt-offering, and on the altar of incense, [and were appointed] for all the work of the [place] most holy, and to make an atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded. 50 And these [are] the sons of Aaron; Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, 51 Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, 52 Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, 53 Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son. 54 Now these [are] their dwelling-places throughout their castles in their limits, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: for theirs was the lot. 55 And they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its suburbs around it. 56 But the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 57 And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of Judah, [namely], Hebron, [the city] of refuge, and Libnah with its suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs, 58 And Hilen with its suburbs, Debir with its suburbs, 59 And Ashan with its suburbs, and Beth-shemesh with its suburbs: 60 And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with its suburbs, and Alemeth with its suburbs, and Anathoth with its suburbs. All their cities throughout their families [were] thirteen cities. 61 And to the sons of Kohath [who were] left of the family of that tribe, [were cities given] out of the half tribe, [namely], [out of] the half [tribe] of Manasseh, by lot, ten cities. 62 And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families [were given] out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. 63 To the sons of Merari [were given] by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. 64 And the children of Israel gave to the Levites [these] cities with their suburbs. 65 And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by [their] names. — 1 Chronicles 6:31-65 | Noah Webster’s Bible Translation (WBT) The Holy Bible; Webster’s Bible Translation by Noah Webster, a revision of the King James Bible, Published in 1833 is in the public domain. Consequences of Karrnath Session 39
Grim Execution and Profuse Grief
Our Players this week:
Dagne, Redemption Paladin, party leader, an undead soldier created by the Odakyr Rites, but has a soul. They are a Seeker sworn to protect the living. Has a skeleton horse mount from Find Steed named Coffin. Can be abrasive and dishonest, but they are ultimately kind.
Vaeren, Gloomstalker Ranger, a blind former Deathguard. They were initially sent to investigate Dagne, but instead started dating them. They’re contemplative and disciplined, helping Dagne keep the party in line.
Evakhal, Zealot Barbarian, a mysterious half-orc Gaash’kala who joined the party due to his visions of the future where they stop a powerful servant of an Overlord. He’s generally optimistic and supportive of the party’s efforts.
The wizard Hilen, the archer, and the spearman race after the fleeing Dagne and Nux. The archer pulls back an arrow and takes their shot, right into Coffin’s skull. The magic animating it shatters. Coffin falls, sending Dagne and Nux sprawling across the ground. Low on time and the energy to keep fighting, Dagne has to think quickly. They retrieve the magical blast disc they bought from Nik, the one which produces a wall of fire, place it, and set it off. It surrounds the two but Hilen floats right over the barrier. Nux’s eyes go wide as he finishes his spellcasting, sending a small bead of flame to the center of the enclosure. It explodes. Dagne and Nux are overwhelmed, falling unconscious. The barrier falls.
Dagne wakes up to see Valfiel standing over them, her axe stopped short by a blade made of smoking demon glass. Their gaze follows the sword to its wielder, a dark tiger with flaming orange stripes, wearing stark black armor. The Rakashsa pulls its blade free, Valfiel staring in mute horror, then runs her through the chest. Before it even yanks the weapon out, it turns, drawing a javelin, and throws it right through Hilen’s skull. It runs up to the spearman, frozen in place and dispatches them, then the fleeing rogue in turn. The Rakshasa sees the distant archer galloping away and vanishes, reappearing right in front of them. It skewers them with its sword as well. Then, calmly, the fiend turns and walks back over to Dagne.
As it approaches, Dagne manages to find the strength to stand and raise their poleaxe. They wait a beat, gritting their teeth together, then charge. The Rakshasa brings up the guard of its demonic blade to turn up their strike. “What do you want?” Dagne asks, terrified but firmly. “I’m making sure to finish this,” the Rakshasa responds in a low, threatening tone. Dagne uses the response as an opportunity to yank their poleaxe free of the entanglement, then strike. They bash the demon right in the side of its tiger head, red light burning brightly and searing it. Momentarily, its dazed, but then it turns back on Dagne. The words it says next are in the infernal language, invoking Rak Tulkesh and a destructive force rolling across the land. That force hits Dagne, hard, knocking them back over.
As Dagne’s vision fades to black, they see the Rakshasa approach Nux’s unconscious body. Then, it stabs them. One, two, three times in the chest. Not even pausing, it turns and approaches Dagne again, kneels, places a hand on their chest, and rips off their visor. It uses a finger to trace something on their exposed skull. It burns. Dagne loses all sensation.
Vaeren wakes up. They sit up, sensing immediately that there is nobody breathing around them and they can smell a lot of blood. Disturbed, they stand up and feel around, happening upon Dagne, lying still. Filled with dread, they hurriedly spellcast, sending healing magic to them. They’re filled with relief when Dagne sits up. “Nux!” They shout, then rise and run over to Nux’s body. They place hands on them and will them to be healed. Nothing happens. “Nux! Get up! Fuck! No, Nux!” Realization dawns on Vaeren and they mutter in elvish, “no, no no no. This… he’s, there’s a way to fix this… somehow there’s a way to fix this, right?” Dagne turns on them, they can’t cry, but it carries in their voice, “I can’t! They’re already dead!”
Vaeren is shocked, “what the fuck is happening? How did this happen? How did you- no! Focus Vaeren. What happened to him?” “I couldn’t stop it!” Dagne yells, punching the ground with a clank, “it came out of nowhere! Nux! Why did it kill them? It should’ve been after me! Dolurrh damn!” “What are you talking about? Who was here? It wasn’t one of them, they’re all dead! Just tell me what happened!” Dagne goes silent then, but they’re shaking, armor clattering softly. “Hey, hey… it’s… come here,” Vaeren says, hugging them tightly. Dagne stills, then shrugs Vaeren off. Wordlessly, they retrieve their waterskin, stare at it, and pour it out on the ground. Vaeren’s eyes widen as they hear the blood spill out, grabbing their arm, “what are you doing? I know you’re upset but you’re acting irrationally!”
Dagne doesn’t respond that that, instead they suddenly say, “I’m so sorry I made you throw your life away on my account. Go beg to go home. Please, just leave.” They take out the canvas of their tent and begin to wrap Nux’s body in it. Vaeren feels like they’ve been stabbed, “you want me to leave? I’m sorry, you want me to leave? Even if there was a chance I could go back, I do not want to go back! I chose to stay here, with this group, with you! I’m not changing my mind just because you tell me to! Whatever happens at the end of this happens, but nothing is going to make me change my mind!” “Nux was killed by a Rakshasa!” Dagne yells, “we’re all going to die pursuing this! Leave! Get out of here! Go make up with your sister! You’re alive, don’t choose death!”
“I love you but you’re getting on my nerves. You can beg me to leave every day if you wish, I’m not going. If I run headfirst into death, let me. Aside from this party, I’ve got nothing going for me. So if I die a part of this party, I die happy. Now stop pestering me to leave, it’s not happening!” “How dare you?” Dagne sounds horrified and very angry, “this is not about you! Nux is dead!” Vaeren bursts into tears, “I know Nux is dead! I know! Don’t you think I know that? Just stop yelling! Dammit! Everything’s just going to shit!” “That’s why you have to go. Nothing will ever go well around me. I have to be alone.” “Just shut up!” Vaeren yells, “shut up! Shut up!” Dagne is quiet, they look out over the battlefield before lifting Nux’s body, “... let’s go see if the others are dead.” They walk back over to where the rest of the party fell, Vaeren following wordlessly.
Syv and Ev are both still alive, just unconscious. Vaeren uses healing magic on each of them. When Dagne sees that they’re alright, they lay Nux’s body across the back of a horse and then mount. “Let’s get going,” Vaeren says, still in elvish. “What?” Ev replies. They gesture for him to get on the horse. “What about Nux?” He asks. Vaeren begins to cry again. “Where’s Nux?” He repeats, scared now. “Dead,” Dagne replies. Ev is briefly shocked, then turns angry, repeating, “where’s Nux?” Vaeren gathers their voice, “I’m sorry we couldn’t do anything. A Rakshasa came in and, that’s all Dagne told me.” “What happened to Nux?” He demands. Dagne just points at the wrapped body. “Is Nux in there?” “Nux is in Dolurrh,” Dagne replies bitterly. Ev approaches and unwraps the end of the bundle, seeing Nux’s face. He goes silent, covers them up, and walks back to his horse. Dagne finds their discarded visor on the battlefield and retrieves it, finding the hinges are broken.
There are clawfoot tracks leading away from the battlefield, left by Atamu and the other two guides. The party follows them for the remainder of the night and some of the day, finally coming across their camp. “We’ll be continuing to the ruin,” Dagne informs Atamu. He just nods, acknowledging neither their skull, nor the fact that the party is minus one member and plus one corpse. Dagne focuses on Nux’s body that day, trying to find the magic within them and preserve it. Amazingly, they find that they can still spellcast without their store of blood, that they can focus their will through the holy symbol on their shield. It works.
After a few more nights of travel, the party reaches Darmin’thek. There is little to look at. The ruin was once a sandstone fortress, but time and wind and what little rain falls in the Blade Desert has worn it down to bare foundations and fallen walls, barely peeking out of the sand. Atamu leads the party inside and locates a staircase. It’s curiously clear of sand and leads down into the ground. Dagne hands over the fifty gold owed, then says, “let’s go.” The guides stay on the surface, watching the horses and Nux’s body. The party descends.
The staircase leads down to a sandstone tunnel, also remarkably clean. It’s also strangely humid. As Dagne turns around a bend in the tunnel, they trip a wire and a spiked stick comes swinging down from the ceiling, bonking them in the helmet. “Let me take the lead,” Vaeren says, “I’ll find any traps that are there.” Dagne lets them pass to the front and they locate two more swinging traps and three pit traps ahead, directing the party around them. The hall opens up then, and the party is faced with a jungle. The cavern is massive and there is light provided by glowing yellow Siberys shards embedded in the ceiling. It’s hot and even more humid than in the tunnel, stagnant cavern air laden with water. Dagne suddenly has a sense of very powerful magic below them, it feels harshly warm. Their poleaxe, Vaeren’s sword, and Ev’s warhammer all warm up as well, their magic responding in sympathy with the magic below.
The party enters the underground jungle, searching around for any way down to the magic they can feel. Presently, Vaeren hears the breathing of an animal, and they recognize it, “hey, there’s a cat up above!” When they alert the others, two big cats jump down. They’re scaled and have abnormally long necks and tails. One opens its mouth to reveal snake fangs. It lunges for Vaeren and they leap aside. The other cat snake tries to bite Dagne, finding only metal. From the trees, dozens of snakes drop down.
Ev approaches the cat snakes, hands outstretched. He speaks in low, soft tones in orc. The two cat snakes seem mesmerized, and one, then the other, cautiously taste the air above his palms. They regard him with interest. Slowly, Ev retrieves a piece of dried jerky from his pack and breaks it in two, offering a piece to each cat snake. They snap the offerings up eagerly. One purrs, and Ev gently reaches out to stroke its scaly neck. The snakes swarm and slither about the ground, seeming to take note of the party, then slither away into the underbrush. The party, two cat snakes following behind, continue to search the jungle. They hear something and spot three people in the distance, but they manage to hide in the brush as the trio passes.
Then, the group stumbles upon a clearing. In the center stands a large stepped sandstone pyramid. Outside the pyramid, there are five snake-like people. Three have snake heads, one has cobra snakes for arms, and the last has a snake tail for the lower half of their body. They’re armored and armed with curved swords. The party stays hidden, guessing these are the night serpents. The cat snakes, however, regard the snake people with interests. One crooks its neck, staring at one of the group in particular, and purrs. The party sends it out as a potential distraction. The cat snake approaches its favored snake person and coils around them. They say something and pet it, then, they look surprised and look at the spot where the party is hiding and takes a step back.
Discovered, the party has no recourse but to step out of hiding, accompanied by the other cat snake. Ev scratches it behind the ears. The snake people approach warily, blades drawn, except the one with snakes for arms. Dagne raises a hand non threateningly, “hello.” To their surprise, the snake person in front responds in common, their voice a breathy hiss, “who are you? What brings you here?” “We come peacefully, searching for an artifact,” Dagne says, but their voice has an edge to it. “What exactly are you searching for?” “A weapon from the Age of Demons. I am the Bone Lord.” The snake person, though not expressive, seems to give a skeptical or confused look. “I am mentioned in the Draconic Prophecy,” Dagne explains, “I come to retrieve the weapon and play my part.” “This is nonsense to me,” the snake person says cautiously. “It is the truth. Do you know the weapon I speak of?” “What are you trying to kill?”
Dagne has only a second to consider, “a dragon.” The snake person’s expression turns intrigued, or at least seems to as it’s still largely unreadable, “who? We have no love for Argonnessen.” “A white dragon, an agent of the Chamber, trapped me on Eberron in this body. I took at personally.” Ev glances over at Vaeren and then back at Dagne, they pat his arm in response and whisper, “they know what they’re doing.” “And who are you?” The snake person asks. An intense gravity enters Dagne’s voice as they say, “I am the Lord of Undead, the dark power of Mabar. I am the Bone King.” The reaction is immediate, the snake person reels back in fright. “Now, deliver to me the artifact I seek and I will leave you in mercy.” Vaeren whispers to Ev again, “maybe they don’t know what they’re doing.” The terrified snake person scrambles for response, “the management of that weapon is not up to me. You must speak to the Baron to obtain it.” “Take us to your Baron,” Dagne orders.
——————
Highlights:
Nux is DEAD! They’re player couldn’t make it this week but they were smug as heck on the server. Premeditated! D:
The Rakshasa casually murdering the whole elf revenge squad had me panicking. Then Dagne decided to hit it? Goodness.
Dagne “fuck” counter: 4. In all seriousness their grief and anger about Nux dying hurt to roleplay out. They were about to turn this campaign into a solo mission in response.
Vaeren just trying to keep the party together when Dagne was about to reactively leave hurt. Dagne telling them to leave was way out of line.
Ev making friends with the cat snakes was incredible. That was the in we needed for diplomacy with the Yuan-ti.
Dagne pretending to be the Bone King in front of the Yuan-ti may just be the biggest brain move. Or it might blow up spectacularly. Can’t wait to see.
Session 40.

Friday with Old Moonwingian - Counting
Ameniši!
Today in my fairy conlang lesson we'll take a look at the counting systems. Yes, plural! There are three different sets of numbers you use for different purposes.
Personal
This system is used for counting people and overall sentient beings. If the stuff you count can communicate using language, then you use the personal system.
The system mixes decimal and vigesimal, but also throws in a bit of quinary.
Non-personal
Self-explanatory. You use this system when counting anything that doesn't fall under the personal system.
It's a similar mix of decimal, vigesimal and quinary as personal, but also is the only one with its own word for a dozen.
Magical
This is a special system used only for casting spells. It serves as a case of whatever the opposite of avoidance speech might be as it is used specifically to strength the spells. The fairies living on Moonwing Islands believe that these numbers have special powers inside them and as such help with magic.
It's completely decimal.
Now let's compare the three systems. On the left there will be the personal system, in the middle the non-personal and on the right there will be magical
0 - Mem / Mem / Kafe
1 - Lam / Olin / San
2 - Tem / Tim / Son
3 - Sem / Sem / Ken
4 - Pin / Pom / Kim
5 - Kin / Sä / Šin
6 - Lan / Li / Kalin
7 - Ten / Ti / Pim
8 - Sen / Se / Pakin
9 - Pen / Tom / Takin
10 - Telen / Tin / Sin
11 - Telen lam / Tin olin / Sin san
12 - Telen tem / Täsen / Sin son
13 - Telen sem / Tin sem / Sin ken
15 - Sem kin / Sem sä / Sin šin
20 - Tälen / Tolen / Son sin
30 - Tälen telen / Tolen tin / Ken sin
35 - Tälen sem kin / Tolen sem sä / Ken sin šin
40 - Tem tälen / Tim tolen / Kim sin
100 - Hilen / Halen / Šam
10000 - Sänte / Säka / Šäkke
86239 - Sen sänte sem tälen tem hilen tälen telen pen / Se säka sem tolen tim halen tolen tin tom / Pakin šäkke kalin sin son šam ken sin takin
The difference between cardinal and ordinal numbers is placement in the sentence. Place it before the thing you count and it's cardinal. After the thing you count and it's ordinal.
That will be all for today!
