My head cannon endings for all the Hilda cast post finale (Spoilers for season 3)
Astrid
She remains in her home, never moving away. However she makes sure to visit Hilda often, which has become easier now that she's learned to fly again. She also doesn't get to lonely as she invites the Pooka to like with her and helps him practice shape shifting. When she dies she is buried where the fairy mound once was to be closer to her family.
Raven
He travels the world but always returns to Trollburg, on cold winter nights he joins Hilda and her family for tea and games, maybe the yule lads join in too. On his travels he spreads the story on Hilda far and wide even long after she's gone.
Tryla & Baba
They remain at the mountain most days but do ecompany Hilda on adventures during her weekly visit. They still live there long after everyone else is gone, telling tales of Hilda to the next hundreds of generations of trolls.
Anders
He continues living in Trollburg, working on wall and city maintenance with the bellkeeper. He never gets back together with Johana but he does try and be a better dad to Hilda, including taking her on that camping trip.
Johana
Begins selling her paintings to people, she also starts painting things from her and Hilda's adventures, including the Fae Ilse, which she still thinks about often. When she dies Hilda burries her at the fairy mound with Auntie Astrid, but she keeps a lock of her hair in a locket. One day, in the far future when Hilda has finally moved on she hangs that locket at the remains of the cabin.
Tontu
Just keeps doing what he does mostly. Going on adventures with Hilda occasionally but mostly keeping to himself. He remains in the house for a long time, even after Hilda had died.
Alfur
Keeps writing reports for the northern counties but he also begins working with Gerda and the safety patrol, his days are busy but that's how he likes them. When he dies, if elfs even do, he would be given a funeral pyre by the lost clan and Hilda returns to the northern counties to scatter his ashes.
Louise
Would go on many more adventures with the trio and would start to develop a crush on David, one that David would reciprocate. She would eventually become a wildlife photographer.
David
Started researching entomology and now runs an insect focused wildlife centre near the sparrow scout building, enjoying a more peaceful and quiet life than most of his friends. He also assists the linworm in a construction of a new garden on sparrow scout property, sometimes the two of them and Louise have tea together. He was the first to die out of the four and was buried in Trollburgs graveyard, later Louise would be buried with him when she died.
Frida
Finished her training and became a fully fledged witch. She would take over running the Trollburg library from Kaisa after Kaisa was appointed to the witch council. When they were teenagers she and Hilda started dating but they never decided to get married.
Hilda
She still goes on adventures in her teenage years, it wouldn't be Hilda if she didn't. She and Johanna also practised flying with their fae magic. She always makes sure to keep in touch with Astrid and Victoria. She continues to paint and make music and becomes a freelance artist like her mum. Twig also grows big enough to ride when he gets older. She lived in her apartment in Trollburg until her death. She and Frida were buried together at the overgrown remains of the cabin
Woodman
He's still there, deep in the woods. even after everyone else has long since died, perhaps he tells the tales of a mysterious blue haired friend to spirits to the passersby.
Or perhaps he would tell you that if you walk deep enough into the woods, you could find an old forest glen where a cabin once was, and you can speak to her spirit yourself

yeah at first Astrid’s whole “Tofoten is my home, I couldn’t leave it” thing just looks like a sneaky retcon for why she wasn’t in the show before and I mean, it absolutely is, but knowing her whole story lends it so much more weight like-
it’s clear Astrid originally didn’t care much for the human world - she didn’t want to engage with humans when she and her brother snuck in, didn’t want to be seen there, she happily spent long stretches of time in the fairy isle while her brother stayed. she mentions that she stopped coming when phinium & lydia got together - not, went somewhere else in the human world to give them some space. just stayed out of it altogether. she clearly liked being in the fairy isle more and the only real appeal of the human world was spending time with phinium. she says the only reason she even ventured back was because she missed him
so, phinium says he’s staying in the human world, and astrid chooses him and this new family over her home. they move to Tofoten, presumably because it’s the most closely connected place to the fairy isle what with the fairy mounds etc. she settles in to this new place and her new role in this family. and then she loses phinium anyway. more than that, she can’t even return to the fairy isle to see him and lydia again because their daughter is still here and she needs her. astrid moved her whole life to this world so they could stay together and now she’s staying there alone, with a child to take care of and a purpose in life that should’ve been theirs
so…yeah, Astrid can’t bring herself to leave Tofoten. you could argue it’s because it’s full of fairy magic so it feels the most familiar, the closest to home. but it’s also the house where they set up as a family and the place where things were good and they were all together, and that’s all she has left. no wonder she couldn’t leave

A year and half later since both their debuts and I still think it's funny how these 2 polar opposite characters from my hyperfixations are voiced by the same person.

Name: Ferrán
Birthday: 04 of November
Age: 9 years
Species: ½ human and ½ fairy
Gender: Male
👍: He likes cartography, exploring (not as much as Hilda), dramas, comedy, taking walks with her grandmother (Astrid is her 'grandmother') and eating jam. any jam will do.
👎: the spiciness, not remembering things, bad jokes (she hates them), not being able to return to Tofoten and not being able to make a map well.
Trivia;
1- He may seem like someone who is patient, but since he is still a child of no more than 10 years old, it is normal that he sometimes loses his composure for simple reasons or that something does not turn out the way he wanted. The most common feeling is sadness and anger in these cases.
2- As already mentioned, Ferrán loves to eat meat and other things of animal origin. Since he moved in with Hilda he hasn't been able to eat these foods as freely as he would like since she doesn't like that. They have had several complaints with each other for these reasons.
3- Even with what was said above, they get along well. They both like to explore places they have not seen before, Hilda drawing or exploring and Ferrán looking for a perfect place to do his cartography.
4- Ferrán was not with Hilda when she went on her trip in search of elves to prevent them from moving. He was at home thinking about Astrid and if she would ever come back for him. What a scare he got when he barely left the house and said house ended up being crushed by a giant.
History:
Ferrán is adopted, at least that was what has always been clear to him from the first day he became aware of himself and his environment. He is repeatedly reminded of this by Astrid.
He has been with Astrid all his life and considers her his grandmother. She took care of Ferrán the first years of his life and loves him very much. Ferrán took a liking to cartography at some point in his life and decided that he would make maps.
which means that she would have to go exploring in many places... and this was a problem for Astrid because of certain fairy mounds that were in Tofoten
Astrid loved Ferrán as if he were her own son, and the mere thought that she could lose him terrified her. It hurt him so much to leave him with Johana that he couldn't even see her cute little face again.
Astrid told him that it was a small visit to her close relatives (Johana and Hilda) and that after the weekend she would return to Tofoten.
The days passed and there was no indication that he would even see Astrid in person again.
This made Ferrán sad for a while....
The good thing is that Hilda was there to encourage him, she was a good person, a positive influence in his life. In the end it didn't take him long to adapt to living with Hilda and Johanna.
And so it was until the giant floored the house and they had to move again, and just as poor Ferrán was adapting to his new home, he now had to go to another new home.
______
I finally finished filling out the information about Ferrán. This character occurred to me one day when I had nothing to do.... Well, I was at work and I was in a state of dissociation that made me waste my time, but they are mere details.
And yes, as you can see in his description, Ferrán is a hybrid. And no, I won't add some new fairy on earth just because. And it doesn't take a genius to know whose son he could be at this initial point in the story. And yes, she tries her best to hide that fact from everyone.
With this I say goodbye, and I really hope to upload content again like before.... Although it's not like it was much, but it starts somewhere.

The Faratok Tree - sorta ep analysis, sorta rambling discussion of themes
Okay, I want to talk about 'The Faratok Tree'. This is one of the more serious eps of the series. Or at least it seemed pretty intense. A lot of this is down to Hilda's intensity - like she's so desperate to get the giants to stay. This is the girl that stopped Trolberg being destroyed, and enabled the peace between Trolls and humans. You'd think she's done enough. But no. It's not even her world. But a part of Hilda seems to understand that if she can get people to not see the giants as monsters now, that this is going to thread through 'history' (this worlds future), and perhaps mean that the humans won't chase the Troll's away when they finally settle Trolberg. That they'll make peace, and the events at the wall, people like Edmond Ahlberg, and Erik, simply won't become what they were.
Maybe she did accomplish that at least.
Woodman as the voice of reason somehow weirdly worked. (I have to admit when I saw a screenshot of Woodman on the flaming wood pile I suspected this was something he had gotten them into and Hilda was saving his arse.). And what I absolutely love the best about this episode, is the theme that changing things takes time. Our actions may not have an effect for a very long time. People aren't just going to change like that. It takes time.
Honestly, whilst this maybe wasn't my fav ep, as there were other episodes I laughed more at... I think this is actually the best episode of the third season. It gets right to the core of who Hilda herself is. This kid, magical part fae or not, is so bloody persisitant the actions she chooses to take are going to ripple throughout time (look at how much Trolberg has changed. Trolls coming to nighttime events? Not posssible without Hilda). Imagine what this child would be capable of as an adult? But one thing's she's going to have to come to realise is that those changes aren't always going to come right away.
I can't really fault it in and of itself. But what I would've loved to see?
That theme of change to have carried through to the rest of the season. 'The Faratok Tree' was a powerful enough ep to set that up and to push it through.
This does also tie in 'damn there should have been more eps' because that's what this would have needed to happen properly. But I would've liked to have seen that theme carry through such as:
Have a marra ep. They've aged up to. How have they changed? Are they better behaved?
More eps with Louise. I really love this kid. Would've liked to see more of her hanging out with the freaky friends, and how this changed thier dynamic.
Safety Patrol. Hell, there should've been a safety patrol ep, with Gerda and Alfur. How are elves and humans interacting now its more official? Also, how are people responding to how Safety Patrol has changed. Gerda's in charge, and the direction is very clearly making contact with the magical creatures and forging alliances. And as bad as Ahlberg was, organisations do not like change. Show safety patrol officers not really wanting to change things and being a pain. Show the public not liking the change and protesting. 'Things were better under Ahlberg!' Show how the city is responding to the changes Hilda enabled through Safety Patrol, because you know they (ie: GERDA) would be driving this.
Victoria Van Gale. This was an arc that actually did get realised, though I would've liked if they'd linked it up to the change takes time theme (and obviously, though Victoria has changed, there are certain things that she cannot change). This might have worked good as its own episode, rather than tied up in the rest of the finale. (I frikkin love her but she does kinda steal the show as things played out).
And yeah, you know I was coming to it, but if you're going to have the season theme change taking time you absolutely cannot leave out Erik Ahlberg. I know he's a pain in the arse, and not a nice person, but the movie handled him really well. And one thing that got across was this man scared the absolute shit out of himself enough that he has plenty of motive change. But he's going to have to practically change his personality, and that's not going to happen in the the year (2 years?) between the movie and the last season. Have Hilda run into him in an ep, and having him trying and doing an absolutely terrible job of it. He's still much the same guy, but he has changed enough that instead of being destructive to those around him, he's beating himself up everytime he fails. Have Hilda tell him it's okay, change takes time, he's still accomplishing something even if it doesn't feel like anythings changed.
And, finally, that theme should be linked the the series final. Hilda ends up in a world where things are 'perfect' but they also don't change. And no change means no growth. I've got to be honest (and I know there probably weren't enough eps for this) but I would've put Victoria's arc in another episode. Which probably would have meant Astrid had to sacrifice herself... but... well... that would actually have worked and sometimes change does suck. Pretty much the Faratok Tree's themes would have tied really well to the series final - they just weren't quite connected as well as it could've been.

Man. You ever wake up and remember that Johanna’s been an orphan since she was ten. She practically never knew her parents. Astrid didn’t go to Trolberg with her. She was all alone. She met Anders, he left, she was all alone. She moved to the wilderness, she was all alone. She moved back to Trolberg, she was all alone. She cried alone in her car because this wasn’t the sort of mum she wanted to be, but how was she supposed to know how to do better? She never had an example to follow. She doesn’t know what a mum is supposed to do. She’s trying so hard. She’s been alone for so long she doesn’t know how to make friends, she’s never had a proper family. She was a sparrow scout, she had the most badges in her flock, she attended every meeting until she graduated, she didn’t feel so lonely there. She clings to Hilda and the little life they’ve built together because she’s the only consistent thing that’s ever been in her life, that’s always been there. And now she’s growing up and ready to leave her alone again and she doesn’t know what to do, because is this what’s supposed to happen? She doesn’t know. She never wanted to be alone. She should call Astrid. She doesn’t know the number anymore. Astrid wants her to visit, but she’s too afraid to go home. The wilderness was isolating, because it was so far from home. Trolberg is isolating, because it was so far from home. Toføten is isolating, and what does that leave her with? If home isn’t relaxing, if it isn’t warm and perfect, then there’s no excuse. Everywhere’s just lonely and it always will be. She tries so hard to help Hilda make friends, so she’s not as alone as she was. She goes to the bird parade with Hilda, it’s just the two of them and she can’t find her anywhere. She finds Astrids number and invites her next year, she doesn’t come. Hilda goes with her friends. Johanna sits on the wall alone. There’s a trick of the light and it almost looks like she has two shadows, that happens a lot. For a moment she feels less alone.

Some expressions I did for Astrid to show her range, I pretty much just treat her as older Hilda because they are so similar. I adore this character so much. HONESTLY. GOALS. WE SHOULD ALL STRIVE TO BE LIKE AUNTIE ASTRID

oh wow.... I always knew that it's normal to fall in love with an animated series drawing.... but I never expected this, and despite that I don't think I care.
Tumblr media
I guess now I know how David feels in the fanfics where he is shipped with Kaisa.
Tumblr media
I mean, just look at that face and tell me it wouldn't be love at first sight.

It's as they say...: smiles that make you fall in love
