yeah at first Astrid’s whole “Tofoten is my home, I couldn’t leave it” thing just looks like a sneaky retcon for why she wasn’t in the show before and I mean, it absolutely is, but knowing her whole story lends it so much more weight like-
it’s clear Astrid originally didn’t care much for the human world - she didn’t want to engage with humans when she and her brother snuck in, didn’t want to be seen there, she happily spent long stretches of time in the fairy isle while her brother stayed. she mentions that she stopped coming when phinium & lydia got together - not, went somewhere else in the human world to give them some space. just stayed out of it altogether. she clearly liked being in the fairy isle more and the only real appeal of the human world was spending time with phinium. she says the only reason she even ventured back was because she missed him
so, phinium says he’s staying in the human world, and astrid chooses him and this new family over her home. they move to Tofoten, presumably because it’s the most closely connected place to the fairy isle what with the fairy mounds etc. she settles in to this new place and her new role in this family. and then she loses phinium anyway. more than that, she can’t even return to the fairy isle to see him and lydia again because their daughter is still here and she needs her. astrid moved her whole life to this world so they could stay together and now she’s staying there alone, with a child to take care of and a purpose in life that should’ve been theirs
so…yeah, Astrid can’t bring herself to leave Tofoten. you could argue it’s because it’s full of fairy magic so it feels the most familiar, the closest to home. but it’s also the house where they set up as a family and the place where things were good and they were all together, and that’s all she has left. no wonder she couldn’t leave
