Medarot III: Kuwagata Version
All Medarot games, especially the ones concerning Game Boy releases, are very run of the mill monster-collecting RPGs whose graphics are incredibly similar to the standard that Pokèmon had set with Red and Blue: top view, tiled movement, overworld and character spriting style. The player impersonates Hikaru Agata (though a more personal name can be chosen at the beginning of the adventure), recieves a starter Medarot as gift (instead of a starter choice, all Kabuto version players recieve a Metal Beetle, while Kuwagata players get a Head Scissors) and off they go with the adventure.
Throughout the game, as expected, there's several battles to overcome with fellow robot trainers and a "world-saving" subplot achieved by defeating the local evil-doers; upon winning battles, the player recieves robot parts that can be either used to upgrade one's own bot or create a new one altogether. Otherwise, they can also be sold or traded for much more powerful parts only found in shops. Some parts are version exclusive and plot-centric, as well as Medals, also known as the core part of a fighting robot.
Fights are usually simpler than Pokèmon battles, but robots' HP are split among different sections of their body: head, arms, legs and core. In sequels, robots get to perform special moves and several mechanics get added each new iterations; for example, Medarot 2 adds "natures" to medals, Medarot 3 adds transformation or temporary evolution, Medarot 4 has several side-plot minigames, while Medarot 5 finally adds some kind of combo/typing system, encouranging players to find and use the same set of parts on a robot. The story also progresses slightly, and some games let the player impersonate another robot trainer altogether, with the previous player character appearing as an NPC (for example, Medarot 2 has Ikki Tenryou as protagonist, with Hikaru relegated to a supporting role).
The Pokèdex of Medarot games gets often changed among chapters, and Medarot 3 and 5 both feature a complete new list of collectable robots without any old one returning from previous titles.

i think about the fact that the metabee tinpet that eventually becomes ikki’s metabee used to belong to hikaru a lot
like iirc the metabee that hikaru had as his partner died and later the medal got repaired-ish and put into arcbeetle and its been said that arcbeetle has no recollection of anything relating to the event or literally anything about being hikaru’s metabee besides being him physically via being same medal
do you think that one of the reasons why hikaru left it in packaging and to dust is because it brought up too many memories of his own metabee during the 10 days of darkness, do you think the reason why he was so quick to give it to ikki was because he wanted to part with the reminder of his own metabee
is it a possible reason that arcbeetle doesn’t show up a lot is because hikaru Knows that this is technically his partner given a new body but effectively removed of what made him said partner and every time he had arcbeetle it reminded him of his own loss
DO YOU THINK THAT HE REACTED THE WAY HE DID TO WHEN IKKI AND ARIKA STARTED DISSING THE METABEE TINPET AND CALLING IT AN OLD PIECE OF JUNK WAS BECAUSE TO HIM IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE UNINTENTIONALLY INSULTING HIS DEAD PARTER???
