Orientation: Straightish. Girls mostly. Kinsey 2. He'll use the phrase "heteroflexible" if his siblings aren't around to give him shit about it.

Favorite fictional character: he's really more of a non-fiction guy. Uh, except Hard In Hightown! which he definitely read. And enjoyed. His favorite character was, the guy. The main one. He definitely read the book and isn't lying because that would hurt Varric's feelings sooooo bad. Anyways.

No because hear me out. You get a lot of physical whump. Male AND female. In the first season we got recovering from a crash, addiction, angsty angsty angsty, shot, witnessing something traumatic, relapse, emotional , crying, hurt/comfort, betrayal, double crossing, downward spirals, major character death-

Season 2 we got all of the same plus more (beat up, hitting rock bottom, stabbed, grief, break up, injury recovery)

And then last season, season 3, again all of the same plus more recovery, losing control, more major character death, cover-ups, confessions. My friend it is whumpderland (whump wonderland!)

This ask has no spoilers!! just general thoughts lol. Your idea of saving The Ray Show Hightown to binge was absolutely correct. I was disappointed in the ending but would’ve been more annoyed had I been a weekly watcher. Not sure if you’ve seen the finale but the ending was so emotionally and narratively removed from the first and second season that it makes me wonder what exactly the plan for Jackie was… it was just so dismal and bland. I feel like I get where they were going if I’m being generous, but none of it landed for me at all. If you’d asked me how this show would’ve ended even in s2 this wouldn’t be it. So hollow.

I actually did end up checking out just the finale and mostly just skipped around to Jackie's parts, so I was like, oh, okay, I guess things are going well for her again??

I would have liked to see Ray's comeuppance on screen and it was sad that Renee seems to have been completely dragged down by him, but despite everything, I'm glad Jackie got to be okay at the end. That was probably about as good as could be expected for her, given the issues she's been dealing with so recently.

That scene with Leslie seemed a bit of a sop given the reaction at the end of season 2, it was so brief and so (too??) emotionally intelligent for them but... I"m always of two minds when it comes to Safe f/f storylines or endings, where you can tell they don't care enough about the relationship to actually give them plot-impacting conflicts and story, but they also want the credit for the rep, and it's like, I mean, yes, I do want more, but I am also grateful for no BYG or completely written off characters?

I mean, if I'd watched the whole season, especially weekly, I'd probably be more pissed but I feel like I said my goodbye to the show already so Jackie getting her okay ending with even a hint at maybe a reunion with Leslie and also Ray being destroyed from two directions...as a season, eh, but as an ending, I'll take it.

Also, my girl Charmaine stayed winning. :D

Hightown thoughts: i'll prob do a rewatch this month to have S1 and 2 fresh in my mind before S3 starts. (S3 is the last season, SPOILERS ahead....) my general sense is that some Hightown fans were upset about how S2 ended bc Jackie went back to bad guy's house - and yeah i hated that but it made sense to me.

TW: prostitution, drug use, dad relationship

final reminder for SPOILERS ahead-

so the implication is that Jackie goes back to the dealer's house to do some sort of sex with him in exchange for drugs. that's how it ends, with that cliffhanger.

sure, Jackie habitually makes terrible decisions, she has problems, she's clearly high when she decides to do this. she's relapsed in a big big way. (and she's also reeling from feeling like she has no one to go to - esp after Leslie rejects her) BUT BUT BUT

she does this bc she's shook up as hell about her dad offering her up to the guy earlier in exchange for drugs.

this is why she goes back!

her dad offered her up, and she hates this. she doesn't understand it. she thought this was a line he wouldn't cross. he reduces her to an object, just another thing to bargain for his next fix. she rejects the offer in that moment, bc ofc she does. she doesn't think twice about it.

but it bothers her, and even though she was already relapsing and high, this sends her spiraling IMO. (or spiraling worse, if you prefer.)

so how to make this thing OK, this thing that her dad did? ideally he would go to her and apologize, beg for forgiveness, say he was wrong. there's no chance in hell that will happen, and i think she's accepted her dad is who he is, and she can't change him. when she was sober that was def how she approached her dad. so that's not an option, in her mind.

but she has to do something. what's something she can do, to make this OK?

it has to be that her dad didn't do anything wrong, that sure he's a bum and cheater and a drunk and an addict but he wouldn't offer her up like that (like a dog). no, he was just noticing that THAT was an option.

so something Jackie can do - is make that true. that it was an option, that she was open to it, that she would do it, you know, it's no big deal. or in that moment she didn't but maybe she would, if things were a little bit different. if it was a little later in the night, if she was a little bit higher, or lower, or something.

so yeah maybe it was an option, hell maybe it's something Jackie wanted to do - and her dad just noticed that.

so the something Jackie can do, the ONLY thing she can do, to make it OK, to make it so her dad didn't just try to fucking prostitute her out, have her fucking some guy like a dog, is THIS.

that's why she goes back to the guy's house.

(not that that makes it OK. obvs she's too high to consent.)

Hank Strong/Jericho: Bodybuilder, Firefighter, Gay Leatherman

Hank Strong (Henry Akinsaya) played Jericho, a member of Kelvin's God Squad in Righteous Gemstones Season 2. When they threaten to return Keefe to his tiger-cage prison, he defends himself by swatting Jericho's nipple.  (Actually a courageous act, since Jericho is nearly a foot taller and 100 pounds heavier than Keefe).

The Brooklyn-born actor graduated from NYU and worked as a celebrity bodyguard before he was cast as the villain Lunkhead in an episode of Gotham (2018).   He moved on to a two-episode story arc as Big Dick Buster on Godfather of Harlem.  Tell me more about Big Dick...

Hank's only gay role, that I can find, is in a 2018 episode of Hightown. He plays a Leather Daddy who wants to buy meth from Junior (Shane Harper). Of course, things go terribly wrong. There are frontal and rear nude photos on Righteous Gemstones Beefcake and Boyfriends.
