~ Ring Inscribed with Hieroglyphs.
Place of origin: Egypt
Date: 305–30 B.C.
Medium: Gold
▪︎ From the source: Upon death, people who were thought to have lived moral lives were reborn in the afterlife as a form of the god Osiris. In Mumbo’s most recent video on building a pyramid, there is a hieroglyphics transition card for chapter 7.
Tumblr media
The translation: “I’m aktually swa akskitad right nwau” or “I’m actually so excited right now”
Or at least this is the best translation I could find and it’s really interesting because hieroglyphics don’t translate perfectly into english. Several of our letters are either missing or replaced by combos of hieroglyphs (and the reverse stands true). Intriguingly, several of the hieroglyphs Mumbo used are backwards, seemingly where the spelling wouldn’t line up with english so he instead used the closest phoenetic equivalent.
I’m no expert in hieroglyphics (only a passing interest) and there’s a high chance I’ve made errors but either way this is really cool and I’m impressed with Mumbo

Walk like an Egyptian
Part 7 to my historic warrior gals series! Disclaimer: these gals are all historically inspired NOT historically accurate
More under the cut on the details!
Did I spend too much time thinking about Egyptian wall paintings as a classical archaeologist who wrote her thesis on pigments? Yes. Yes I did. I took an Egyptology class not too long ago so I tried to use a lot of those sources. So her clothing is inspired by the stiff white linens of the upper class with its starched skirt, many a scarab, lotus flowers and the floral symbols of Upper and Lower Egypt, a ceremonial golden axe, a negative space obelisk, and malachite eye shadow to name a few!

Nile!Asriel and Flowey. While green clothes were rare in Egypt, the RICH rich had them. Flowey is a blue lotus, a symbol of Ra, ascension to divinity, and resurrection. Asriel’s hieroglyphic name is “Beloved Child Joy” (gifted from Toriel and Asgore). Flowey doesn’t have a proper name.
PLEASE DO NOT STEAL MY ART.

This waterline agate seems to carry the mystical aura of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. The interwoven patterns and rich natural tones evoke the silhouette of a woman offering tributes to Apis, the symbol of abundance and fertility. However, upon closer inspection, you may notice that the woman transforms into a duck adorned with flowers on its head. This unique stone offers a captivating depth, both artistically and symbolically. It is truly a magnificent piece that brings together the elegance of nature and the spirit of ancient cultures.

The Rosetta Stone is inscribed with three versions of a decree issued in 196 BC on behalf of King Ptolemy V Epiphanes. The top text is written in the Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic script, the middle in the Egyptian Demotic script, and the bottom written in Ancient Greek. The Rosetta Stone has been pivotal to deciphering Ancient Egyptian scripts. It can be seen in Room 4 the British Museum today - where this particular photo was taken.
