McTells (Hertford, England) were one of the many British bands from the mid-80s. Yes, they are on the Cherry Red Records behemoth 4 CD C86 compilation from 2014.
Like many bands from that era, McTells are releasing a new LP. Unlike others, this looks to be a completely DIY affair - look at those handmade cassette cases made from cereal boxes.
The music is just outstanding. This recalls any number of bands from The Clean (great keyboard work on "Cut It Out") to The Vacant Lot (vocals). And I saw that Trouser Press said that "the band’s early work holds a British mirror up to Australia’s Cannanes".

Introductory Posting
Greetings foes, friends and others. The islands of Hertford and Ciboux are the component islands of the Bird Islands Wildlife Management Area. They are located approximately 4-5 kilometres from Cape Dauphin, Victoria County, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, North America, Earth. The Bird Islands are located at 46.376°N, 60.384°W, with an altitude of 0 - 20 metres and a total area of 10.89 square kilometres. Hertford Island is approximately 1.1 kilometres long an 120 metres wide, while Ciboux Island is approximately 1.6 kilometres long and 120 metres wide.
The Bird Islands have the largest colony of Great Cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) in North America. The Bird Islands also have the greatest concentrations of Black-legged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla), Razorbills (Alca torda) and Atlantic Puffins (Fratercula arctica) within the province of Nova Scotia. They also have many other bird species including Double-crested Cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus), Black Guillemots (Cepphus grylle), Leach's Storm Petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous), Spotted Sandpipers (Actitis macularius), Cliff Swallows (Petrochelidon pyrrhonota), Herring Gulls (Larus argentatus), Greater Black-backed Gulls (Larus marinus), Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias), and Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) as well as animals which are not birds such as the Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus). The flora consists of shrubs as well as areas of grass and other forbs.
Hertford Island is currently owned by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust (previously by the Nova Scotia Bird Society), while Ciboux Island is owned by the province of Nova Scotia and the federal government of Canada. The name Ciboux is from the word Cibou, from the Mi’kmaq sipu, meaning river. The name Hertford is most likely named after one of the many other places, people and other things named Hertford.
The blog is not legally the official blog for either of the islands of Hertford or Ciboux.

This Hertford
I was asked to write the narration for a film that was being prepared about Hertford. I was given a synopsis and started to turn the idea over in my head. I remembered The Night Mail and the thought of the narration as a poem took hold. But what form? Then I remembered Gray’s Elegy in a Country Churchyard and the lines just started to flow.
Here is a link to the film itself.
This Hertford, this our town, our hope, our home
A place where age, antiquity and youth
All merge to forge a living, thriving poem
“Pride in our past and in our future faith”
A county town built where four rivers met
The Mimram, Rib, the Beane feeding the Lea
Did I say four? No five, let’s not forget
New River saving London’s citizenry
A game of time meanders through this town
The rails and roads like rivers map our way
Yet we, time’s children, saw the past torn down
To serve an urban dual carriageway
Small wonder we defend our open space
And look on plans to build on it askance
We do not seek to stop time’s marching pace
But present change the future should enhance
As from a distant past St Leonard’s church
Brings age-old peace to those who climb the hill
And reaches out to those who come in search
And find a thousand years of welcome still
Below, broad Hartham hosts a livelier scene
Where racquets flash and runners pace the tracks
Or gentler roll the bowls upon the green
While others take a moment to relax
The paradox of changeless change shines through
Pass on the baton, pass the ball and score
And cheer the old tradition with the new
Past, present, future linked forever more
This is the backbone on which Hertford thrives
Its contribution no-one should deride
Let’s teach our children how to live good lives
Faith in our future born of present pride
Down at the Wash Sam Stone stands finger raised
To warn us pleasure seekers of God’s wrath
But could be flagging down a bus these days
This once stern and revered man of the cloth
Atop her church the vicar sees it all
The spread in which this tiny town succeeds
She knows the past must serve or we will fall
But firm foundations frame our future needs
To those who clean our streets and those who feed us
Baristas, the shop workers, council staff
The ticket office clerks and window cleaners
We owe a debt, a living cenotaph
The sun sets and the urban fox takes over
And muntjacs from their shelter shyly roam
Where Viking ships once traded on the river
And settlers made this fording place their home
Time passes and the evening brings the pleasure
Of days well spent, companionship and fun
Sweet music forms the background to our leisure
And all too soon the nighttime has begun
And under glinting stars the Gatehouse stands
Our fortress and the town’s unchanging eye
All moated round by Hertford’s shining strands
A fitting axis for a timeless sky
But soon another dawn will be beginning
Time’s like a clock, once wound it ticks away
And yesterday is past, today is bringing
All our tomorrows closer by a day

Why Second-Hand Office Furniture is a Smart Choice
Tumblr media
In the dynamic realm of business, where the aesthetics and functionality of office spaces carry immense significance, the choice of office furniture can be a pivotal decision. While there's often a natural inclination to opt for brand-new furnishings, savvy businesses are discovering the multitude of benefits associated with choosing second-hand office furniture.
Far from being a compromise, this choice is proving to be a strategic and resourceful approach for companies aiming to strike a balance between financial prudence, environmental responsibility, and creating a workspace that inspires productivity. Let's delve into why second-hand office furniture in the United Kingdom is emerging as a smart and compelling choice for businesses of all kinds.
Cost-Effective Solution
One of the most compelling reasons to consider second-hand office furniture is the cost savings it offers. Setting up or renovating an office can be an expensive endeavour, and allocating a significant portion of the budget to furniture may not always be feasible. Second-hand furniture provides a cost-effective solution without compromising on quality or functionality. In many cases, businesses can acquire high-quality, durable pieces at a fraction of the cost of new items.
Consider this: a sleek conference table, ergonomic chairs, or modular workstations that may have been used for a short period in another office can often be found in excellent condition. By opting for second-hand options, businesses can redirect their budget to other essential areas, such as technology upgrades, employee training, or marketing efforts.
Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly
The growing awareness of environmental issues has led to a shift in consumer behaviour, with more individuals and businesses actively seeking sustainable practices. Opting for second-hand furniture aligns with this trend by promoting recycling and reducing waste. When furniture is reused instead of discarded, it minimizes the demand for new production, thereby reducing the environmental impact associated with manufacturing and transportation.
By choosing these furniture, businesses contribute to the circular economy, extending the lifecycle of products and reducing the overall carbon footprint. This not only resonates with environmentally conscious employees but also enhances the company's reputation as a socially responsible and sustainable entity.
Quality and Durability
Contrary to common misconceptions, second-hand furniture in Essex doesn't necessarily equate to worn-out or inferior-quality items. Many businesses regularly update their furniture to stay on top of design trends or to accommodate changes in their office layout. As a result, a considerable amount of second-hand furniture is nearly indistinguishable from new items.
High-quality materials and craftsmanship can endure years of use, and purchasing second-hand often means acquiring furniture that has stood the test of time. Additionally, some well-known brands offer robust warranties on their products, ensuring that even second-hand items come with a level of assurance regarding their durability and performance.
Customization and Variety
Another notable advantage of choosing second-hand furniture, particularly from your trusted office furniture supplier, lies in the diverse range of styles and designs available. Unlike purchasing brand-new items, which may be confined to prevailing trends or specific catalogues, the second-hand market unfolds a vast array of options spanning various eras and aesthetics.
This rich variety empowers businesses to curate a distinctive and personalized office space that authentically mirrors their brand identity. Whether the preference leans towards vintage pieces for a touch of character or modern, modular furniture for a sleek and contemporary ambience, the second-hand market, particularly when sourced from a reliable office furniture supplier, provides the flexibility to seamlessly mix and match styles to align with the company's unique culture and preferences.
Conclusion
In conclusion, selecting second-hand office furniture emerges as a strategic choice for businesses seeking a harmonious balance between budget constraints, sustainability objectives, and top-tier workspace design. By championing the principles of reuse, businesses not only contribute to a more sustainable future but also craft an office space that seamlessly combines functionality, style, and productivity.
In the ever-evolving business landscape, the discerning choice becomes increasingly apparent – second-hand office furniture is an investment that yields dividends on multiple fronts. When on the lookout for unparalleled options in second-hand office furniture, look no further than Diamond Office Furniture Limited. As leaders in providing quality second-hand office furniture, we offer a curated selection that meets the highest standards of durability, style, and cost-effectiveness.

2nd November 2023
The PBE tour begins! Contemplating cancelling at the last minute following the sudden passing of my brother but he would have understood and I bloody need it for my sanity.
First I had to brave Storm Ciaran. Received a e-mail the day before that my Eurostar had been cancelled so moved to the previous one as I knew it would be running with a speed limitation.
Was afraid my train to Paris would be running slow so left home at 7 and arrived at Paris Gare du Nord about an hour and half later. Check-in at the Eurostar went smooth and got even proposed a seat on the 9am train but declined.
Managed to sleep a bit then caught the train to Hertford. 45 minutes later I arrived and it was pissing down. Checked in my room above a pub, went to Tesco then got prepared. Couldn't manage to get the telly working so watched Netflix on my tablet.
Went to queue just after 7pm as the rain had calmed down. At 8pm, they let us in to scan our tickets but we couldn't go upstairs as Ciel were still soundchecking until the lady told us to go so we got some bonus music!
Ciel were brilliant, I so love when I appreciate the support on a tour as it's so much better! PBE were as awesome as last week in France and played the same setlist as well (although I miss some older songs, I'm not complaining, they're here to promote their second album so this is perfectly normal they play more songs from said album).
After the gig, they were the sweetest people as ever as I was happy to see friends I hadn't seen for a while.
Came back to a freezing room, got a nice warm shower and slept until my drunken neighbours came back very loudly at 4am, bumping in my door on their way and talking for a while after this...

Propaganda
Art Harper (Twilight of Honor) - he drops all the advice and then promptly goes to bed. what an icon.
Earl of Hertford (The Prince and the Pauper) - I'm still super salty about him not even making it into round on of @medievalandfantasymelee's tournament, so here begins the Earl's redemption arc! We all need to take a moment to appreciate his fit (the robes! the furs! the beard! the jewels!) and what a style icon he is. He serves so hard and his character is honestly underutilized.
This is round one for The King of The Claudes tournament and other matchups can be found here!
Additional Propaganda under the cut!
