The Unofficial Hermitcraft Guess the Author Google Form
Do you have way too much time to kill? I offer an unofficial @hermitcraftguesstheauthorevent form for collecting people's guesses for each fic!
It's long. It's horribly long. But, you can skip any fic you haven't read, and it should auto-save and allow you to edit your answers even after submitting the form! Plus, at the end there's some fun questions to celebrate your accomplishment (or you can just skip straight there, I won't be sad, promise.)
The form requires a logged-in Google account but that should be all. Don't worry if you've not read many fics yet, you can answer the ones you've read, submit your answers, then come back once you've read more. The possibilities are endless!
So, come contribute to some fun statistics and kill some time! Fill out the Unofficial Hermitcraft Guess The Author Event 2023 Google Form™ today!

Hermitcraft Guess the Author 2024 - Doodles!
The Guess the Author collection is live! Works are Anonymous for 7 days, giving readers a chance to browse and guess who wrote what.
AO3 Collection || Event Tumblr
I'm doing doodle requests for 7 days!
Guess period countdown timer
Send the title of a 'fic you think I wrote to my Ask Box. In your message, include something from that 'fic you'd like me to doodle. In keeping with the theme, I'd love to hear why you suspect it's mine!
- I wrote more than one 'fic, so don't overthink it. And don't stress- This is just for fun, and guessing "wrong" just means surprise gift art for someone else :) - 1 guess per person! My Ask Box has Anon turned off during this time. I'll reblog this post towards the end of the week as a reminder for anyone who hasn't guessed yet and wants to - I'll post the Asks alongside the doodle and a link to the 'fic. After authors are revealed, I'll tag people and/or leave their 'fic a comment with their doodle (if it wasn't mine) - You don't need to be following me on Tumblr; anyone is welcome to guess. However, event participants should not guess I wrote their own works
Have fun! Browse some cool 'fics, and definitely leave kudos and comments for the lovely authors while you're there!
My fellow authors are welcome to play this game on their own blog if they wish! The more the merrier!

Grian comes to again, flat on his back, and groans. Distantly, he hears Scar yelling an apology. It’s hard to tell if Scar had accidentally dropped sand, accidentally kicked one of the dragon eggs currently littering their bases (causing it to fall), or had missed concrete somewhere and caused that to drop, but the apology, this time, was at least sincere, so he’s fairly certain Scar didn’t intentionally knock Grian out. Doesn’t mean Grian hadn’t been knocked on his ass by, what, a pavlovian reaction to sand? But it means Scar hadn’t been intentionally exploiting it.
He’s rubbing his head when he hears them chittering distantly. He looks up, and then he Looks up, just to make sure he’s not imagining it, and… yep, they’re there. The Watchers. They’re busy happily chittering about the fact that Grian passes out when any block falls to the ground. Of course they are. He wonders if this is their fault. Probably not; Watchers may be annoying, but they can’t see the future, so it’s not like they’d have known about the egg thing ahead of time. No, they’re probably just amused at his suffering.
Joke’s on them. This is mostly just going to make cleaning up slower. And they’re going to have to deal with that too, on account of the fact Grian can’t do much else until it’s done.
He’s trying to hit another egg with a piston when he hears, distantly, “shoot, the beach!”, realizes what has happened, and then he’s waking up on the ground again. He stares at the sky for a moment.
“Trust Scar with sand, I thought. He terraforms all the time, I thought. He won’t keep messing me up with it, I thought.” He groans.
The chittering of the Watchers gets louder. He hears a lot of ‘Scar’ and ‘sand’ and ‘he can’t bear it’ and. Great. Grian’s pretty sure he knows what comment is coming next—
you’ve never left that desert.
“So this is your fault!” he says, accusingly. “Why! All it’s done is make my life more confusing!”
Indistinct noises. At one point, when Grian had been more one of them than he is now, he had been able to tell all of the voices apart easily. Now, the Watchers are somewhere between the wall of incomprehensible, horrible sound that they are to mortals and normal voices. He has to strain to pick out anything overly specific. He supposes if he chose to go all Watcher again he’d be able to tell what they’re saying, but frankly, they’re all annoying, so why would he bother? Better to stick to things as they are.
He messages Scar: If you drop sand one more time I am going to figure out how to add more dragon eggs to your base.
Scar messages back: its an accideet
Grian responds one more time: lol. accideet.
He takes a moment before standing up to check around himself. Scar does seem to have moved on from whatever he’d been doing with terraforming to keep dropping gravity blocks, so it’s probably safe to stand without passing out again. What had he been doing? Right. Eggs. Piston.
you never left that desert, Grian hears again from the wall of noise.
“Right. That’s me. Never left,” Grian says. Honestly.
can’t stand the sight of scar and sand.
“You know you guys are reaching, right?” Grian says.
never left—
“I would if you’d let me!” snaps Grian.
Indistinct chittering. Deep breaths. He’s fine. He's apparently developed sand-based epilepsy or something, and is trying to find the solution to that, but. Fine. He’s fine. It’s not like arguing with Watchers is ever actually worth it. They never change their mind. The thing is that they tend to think they know exactly how he works, and no matter how much he tries to refute their baseless assumptions, they still have a picture in their head, and they still keep working off of it.
A strange shudder runs down his back.
you never left that desert.
“Look, it’s not that I’m not over it,” Grian says. “I’m actually pretty over it. I’ve been over it since Last Life, really, even if none of you believe me.” He puts another egg in his inventory. “Scar’s my friend and he’s a weird guy and I like him, but it’s not like I’m not over that stupid game. Wouldn’t keep playing it if I weren’t over it, would I?”
Indistinct chittering about tragedy and deserts and dramatic final suicides and, look, Grian is good at telling stories. That’s the whole point. That’s why these guys won’t leave him alone. But sometimes, he swears…
“So you know, I would have left the desert by now. It’s just that you all haven’t. So guess who’s still stuck here? Believe me, it’s not me who’s not over it. If you wanted me out of the desert, you could let me leave any time you’d l—”
He has a second’s warning before he’s on the ground, dizzy, hoping he hasn’t gotten a concussion. He glances down at his communicator.
Mumbo says: that was me this time my bad
Shakily, Grian types: you have 10 seconds. start running.
The chittering gets more distant. Grian gets up. He checks to make sure his wings are on. He goes to light a rocket, but not before shouting: “Scar, if you do anything with gravity blocks while I am actively flying I will kill you dead!”
“Have fun buddy!” Scar shouts back. Grian’s not sure Scar actually heard a word he said. Well, hopefully there will be no sand falling from his hands while he goes to murder Mumbo, then. If there is, Grian’s—well, Grian’s going to have a broken bone at that rate, but he’s recovered from far worse falls. Some of those have even been Scar’s fault, by some measure or another.
He Looks back up at the mass he knows are the Watchers. “If this is you all’s fault because you never seem to have gotten over the whole desert thing, I’ll find a way to, I don’t know. Inconvenience you greatly. Not sure what I’ll do, but I’ll figure it out.”
The chittering gets way more fond, then. Pleased. They want him to do that. Can’t even threaten the assholes properly, they like it. Honestly, Grian doesn’t know why he bothers. It’s not like they’ll listen. No matter how many times he says he’s over it, it’s not like they’ll listen.
(Sometimes, he hates that he’s so good at stories.)
Right then. Time to wreak havoc on his friends for exploiting his very exploitable weakness, then. This sword’s got sharpness on it, right?
------
(originally written for @hermitcraftguesstheauthorevent, and posted on ao3 here; now that it's revealed, i figured i'd go ahead and post it here, since it really matches the cadence of one of my tumblr things more than an ao3-only fic. enjoy!)

Welcome to the Inaugural Hermitcraft Guess The Author Event! This post should get you up to speed on the rules and how this is going to work. We will NOT be creating a discord for this event, sorry.
Guess the Author is exactly as it sounds: you, the author, write a new Hermitcraft fic (Or dust off an old unposted WIP, we won’t judge) and add it to our collection! The collection is both unrevealed and anonymous. You will have until THE DEADLINE to add your fic to the collection!
THE DEADLINE is July 9th, 2023 at midnight EDT.
On THE DEADLINE, we will close submissions and reveal the collection- but not the authors! We will make a list of every author in the collection, and post it in the collection description, so the readers aren’t just throwing darts in the dark.
From there, the Readers will have ONE WEEK to try and guess who wrote what! Your prize is nothing but new fic and fun!
ONE WEEK will last from July 9th to July 16th, 2023, terminating at midnight EDT.
After ONE WEEK has elapsed, we will reveal who wrote what. Great Success!
Do you want to join? There’s a few additional notes under the cut!
The deadline will not be moved for any reason, at all.  If you make the deadline, awesome! Add your work to the collection.
If you don't make the deadline, that's okay! You still wrote a fic, and you should totally post it. The deadline will not be moveable to avoid throwing everything out of whack. This is about getting everyone writing, not some silly deadline!
That said, THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO EXTENSIONS TO THE DEADLINE.
The collection itself IS NOW LIVE! I had an unexpected injection of free time, so you guys get the collection early! You can add your fics to it right now!
Here's some instructions to help you with that!
And remember: You can add your fic to the collection at any point between now and THE DEADLINE!
Writers are strongly encouraged to write hermits they don't usually write for, to write less-popular hermits, to obfuscate their tracks, or to just play around in sandboxes they wouldn't normally touch. Go outside your comfort zone! Usually a horror writer? Maybe try a coffee shop AU! Or, alternatively, stick exactly to your comfort zone and try and get everyone with the ol' reverse psychology. Works every time.
The point of this is secrecy, though! It’s a game! Let’s have some fun!
Lie while liveblogging the writing process. Compose an ode to Vintagebeef on tumblr and then drop the hottest Wels fic of 2023. The possibilities are (almost) endless!
Once you've submitted a work, you'll send us an ask with your AO3 username, and we'll add you to the list. Once the collection goes live on the deadline, the list will be part of the collection description!
There will be no giftees. There will be no pinch hitters. There will be no signups. If you wanna show up, drop a fic in the collection! If you don't, that's cool too. Write whatever you want! Drop in, or don’t! It’s all for fun!
Now, that said, we do have a few rules:
-Your work MUST be Hermit-centric. This is a Hermitcraft challenge, we’re Hermitcraft fans. Nothing personal. Feel free to have cameos and background characters from any other series you like!
-No smut. Sorry guys. Imply it, cut to black around it, whatever you wanna do. Just no full-on smut.
-No causing us to break TOS. Or like, the law.
-Wordcount should be more than 50.
-The mods reserve the right to remove fics from the collection if you break these rules. (It almost certainly won’t come to that, though!)
And that’s it! That’s all the rules. Throw whatever you want in the collection- but remember, it’s a game and your job is to make it hard on the readers. Or make it easy! It’s entirely up to you.
As a reminder: the deadline for submissions will be July 9th, 2023, at midnight Eastern Daylight Time.
WE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY EXTENSIONS.
With that…Ready, set, WRITE!
Have fun everyone!
Once again: the collection is LIVE, and you can add your work to it anytime!
Sincerely,
The Mods

Where Am I? Who Am I?
AO3 link - this was written for the hermitcraft guess the author 2024 event. do go check out the other authors as found in the AO3 collection.
Etho awoke a random summer's day to unfamiliar surroundings. It wasn't his usual base build. Instead, he found himself in a green bedspread with an accompanying nightstand stacked high with romance books. All the titles in Japanese. Startled, he decided to search around. See if he could find any more information as to where he had suddenly been transported to. Not knowing how he'd fallen asleep, was the moon still growing?
'Yikes,' Etho realized exactly where he was after recognizing the figure in the bathroom window. One less pixelated than it should be. His jacket no longer baring the Canadian flag emblem on the sleeve. Nor did his headband. A headband that was more of an eye patch if he was honest. Instead, it was a symbol that looked to be an abstract bird. A beak with a swirl branching off of it. Etho tried to recall everything he knew about the Naruto series. What arc even is this? Unfortunately he’d have to interact with the other characters to figure out.
Etho wasn’t the only one. Kakashi awoke to a pixelated wooden house. Did his vision get this bad overnight? Looking down, he was relieved to see his uniform still intact. But like Etho, he noted the difference in emblems. Lucky for him, Etho wasn’t involved in any big plans. Their personalities similar in that they were both aloof individuals. If only he had his books, Kakashi wistfully thought to himself.
The Hermits, one by one would eventually have the epiphany that something was off with their friend. ‘I asked him if he could fix the meal bone farm…it’s almost as if he short circuited,’ Iskall remarked to Grian. Telling him more about how “Etho” fell off their base, completely forgetting about the waterfall elevator. Going berserk with the belief that he only had one life.
'Have you noticed anything weird about Kakashi-Sensei?' Sakura reluctantly asked Naruto. 'Besides him not reading those boring novels? Not really.' Sakura on the other hand had noticed the change in “Kakashi's” demeanor. The man was more jovial, more talkative. Sakura decided that if a doppelganger had replaced their sensei, the best course of action would be to ask something that only their sensei would. But what? Oh, those pesky books. Kakashi would definitely know the plot lines backwards and forwards. Especially as it'd been one of his notable traits since they had first met. But Sakura didn't know anything about them. All the more reason to ask.
'Hey Sensei? What happened in the last volume of Make Out Tactics?' Naruto sputtered out in shock, 'but you weren't interested when I offered to explain last week! Ow! What was that for?' Sakura kicked his shin, trying to get him to shut up. Etho had zero clue. All he knew was that they were some erotica series and that he should act bashful. 'Uh, well, I don't think that's something I should be telling you, at your age,' Etho hoped his acting was up to par. Rather, it cemented what Sakura thought. If it had been their sensei, he wouldn't be able to form a coherent answer at all.
It's when the moon glows larger in the pixelated sky for the final time that the two are returned back to their respective places. Sakura is stuck as the only one aware. Later being gas lit by both Naruto and Kakashi who is actually Kakashi again. Simply told it was a figment of overactive chakras. Kakashi wants to leave it in the past and never mentions the horrors he had witnessed. Fighting against multiple creatures—mobs as the celestial body rose higher on the horizon. Iskall on the other hand confronts Etho which results in him divulging everything from the moment he woke up to the moment he returned. Glad to be back in his mountainous base.

Na-Scar
Based off this prev post of mine
AO3 link - this was written for the hermitcraft guess the author 2024 event. do go check out the other authors as found in the AO3 collection.
'What pile of manure did you stick your head in now?' Scar had retired from racing 9 years ago as a result of a severe leg injury at Daytona. He had hit an area not covered in the safer barrier line. He had risked multiple infections, having returned before it was fully healed. Now standing at his door was Grian, talking straight out of his behind.
‘Hear me out, Mumbo bet me some TNT that I wouldn’t be able to beat him in a race. Said it was going to be stock cars and I remember you rambling on about how Nascar started with those exact cars during the prohibition.’ While Scar was touched that Grian had actually been listening to him, he was annoyed at how he decided to use said information. ‘And your bright idea was to have me teach you?’ Watching as the man nodded.
Truly, he only agreed after hearing that the grand prize was a few hay bales worth of redstone. Grian informed Scar that while he had no use for it, it would be just as sweet a victory to steal it from under Mumbo’s nose. ‘So it’s like a normal car?’ This being his less smartass way of asking ‘how hard can this be?’ His smug expression soured at the sight of a helmet.
‘Eh, kinda. Yes, in that you’re not really learning anything new. No, in that you’re dealing with g-forces so turns are a little bit more difficult. Will feel like pulling a ton of bricks. That and you're going at the speed of hyperspace.’ Explaining the plan. Said plan was to take Grian on a test-drive with him in the passenger’s seat and Scar driving. See if he’d puke or not and then work back from there. ‘Holy mackerel!’
‘Dude! A full workout routine?’ Grian exclaimed, looking at the itinerary Scar messaged him over comms that morning. One that was chalked full of cycling, rope climbs, and squats. ‘I know, it’s god awful but it’ll help in the long run. Besides, I bet Mumbo’s preparation is him driving in circles along some dirt beaten path. This way, you’ll actually have stamina and won’t pass out in the car.’ At least, the driving simulator sounded fun.
Alas, the day had finally arrived. The day of the race. Both Mumbo and Grian were given the proper gear so as to not injure themselves too badly. Each wearing a jacket, helmet, and gloves. The group of watchers spotted Cleo at the start point, holding two checkered flags above her head. Sat in their vehicles, Mumbo noted the lack of anxiety Grian held. Unaware of the training that he had done, thinking it’d be an easy win.
Both of their feet slammed on the gas pedal as soon as Cleo’s flag flew downward. Knuckles tightly gripping the wheel, Grian’s eyes focused on the road while Mumbo momentarily glanced at him. Confused why he was taking the bet between them so seriously. It was an extremely close race, the duo being neck and neck as the sun bore on the audience.
In the audience, sat Scar. Proud of Grian’s performance so far. On par with what he expected of the work they had put in. Cheering the loudest as his student crossed the finish line. Mumbo puts the missing pieces kept hidden from him together as he meets the retired driver’s gaze. Met with a smug expression.

Prognosis: Chat's Chew Toy by magicalfrog-Choose Your Own Adventure
Written for the Hermitcraft Guess the Author 2024!
Summary: Normally Grian wakes up and sees where the day takes him. However on this particular day, he's got an audience observing his day-to-day actions.
Grian's just hoping chat doesn't give him too much of a headache.
-- A choose your own adventure story! With over 30 different endings, try your best to pull pranks, ignore the permit office, or obtain the coveted Mending Book.
Map of Pathways and Author's Inspiration below the cut
Author's Inspiration : I found a collection of Ao3 Coding works showcasing various unique things you can do with HTML code. I had never interacted with html coding beyond the basics of adding links to stories, but when I found La_Temperanza's choose your own adventure code I was inspired to make my own.
Grian was a natural choice to me--I had a swarm of ideas that started coming up-- fishing, phasmophobia, snails, pranks, watchers-- By the first day I had 37 endings planned with some more concrete than others.
I wrote the fishing branch first, followed by the Permit Office and then Shenanigans, with only one interruption of writing Desperate Creation.
Map of Pathways: Wake up is the starting page, each boxed number is an ending. All paths have at least 2 choices at any given time.
Tumblr media
Note: while this is accurate, note that Endings 6, 7, 8, and 9 as well as the page 'Grumbot' that leads to them were cut for time to post for GTA. My plans for that pathway was for chat to spam "mumbo" when Grian was in the chamber of Sea Critters, Have Grumbot show up and send Grian back in time to a different Season of Hermitcraft, and have a weird event happen. (Season 6 was going to mess with time travel more and result in Grian being stuck in alpha world Minecraft, Season 7 was going to be during the Mycelium Resistance, Season 8 during the Moon crashing into the server, and Season 9 was going to be in the middle of the decked out dungeon.)

welcome to the message-board for the @hermitcraftguesstheauthorevent!! (this is unaffiliated with the official blog and is run by one of the participating authors.)
if you're here, you probably already know about the event. if you don't, then you should go ahead and check it out!
this blog is for participating writers to talk about their fics anonymously so as to keep in the spirit of the event! if you're like me and you're clawing at your (metaphorical) enclosure with the need to talk to SOMEONE, then this is the place!
writers can anonymously send in asks to this blog through the button on the LEFT-HAND side of the screen titled "POST". make sure to check off the anon button so we don't get spoiled, though!
writers can (but they don't have to) sign off on their asks with the name of their au/fic or an anon name of their choosing. for example:
i'm trying to write this stupid scene and iskall is Not Listening to me,,, - haven au (NRN)
"NRN" means "no response necessary" and means that haven au would prefer no commentary to be posted with their ask. if there's no "NRN" then i'll give you a nice little comment/compliment!
it is recommended that authors switch up how they speak when submitting asks so they're not immediately sussed out through the way they type. for example, maybe start capitalizing? or maybe type in british/american english instead of what you normally do?
however you send in an ask, just be sure not to say anything revealing--you may be on anon but be careful!
if you have questions, send them to the askbox with a header that clearly states it's a question for the blog moderator and not a post to the message-board.
and most of all? have fun!!!!

The Hermitcraft Guess the Author event reveals pieces tomorrow, and I have a post scheduled about that, which will post on Monday.
Notes:
- If you subscribe to me on AO3, you won't get an email when the collection is revealed tonight, but you will get an email next week when anonymity is removed. I've include the collection link in my post for tomorrow
- My goal is that next week, I'll try to put my Guess the Author content in the appropriate MCYT series I have on AO3 so that people subscribed to the series will get the notification when stuff reveals, but I can't promise that (as we're not allowed to have things in series in advance and I'd have to time it right before emails go out, which is unlikely).
-> So, those subscribed to me as an author on AO3 will get the email while those only subscribed to series likely won't.
- I'm still updating 4 'fics on their usual schedule at this time, and these things sometimes overlap update days (Ex: Life of a Loser is posted every other day). If subscribed to me as an author, you may receive an AO3 email with multiple pieces in it
- In conclusion, since things are likely to be overlooked or lost, I'll make posts later in July or August to recap my posted content (Ex: Individual 'fic post for new content & a little recap for each of the 'fics that are still on their schedules)
tl;dr - If you're interested in reading my stuff, worry not about it getting lost! I will post separate alerts on Tumblr in July/August and spotlight individual things so they don't get buried, and my AO3 link is in my pinned post if you ever want it.
There is no time limit on finding serotonin, so read at your own leisure if you see multiple things that interest you.
