i just got a new photo! this time it's the Austrian Hermann Thimig, one of the most popular Austrian actors in German–language cinema. during his life, he starred in hundreds of films, the most important of which are "The Doll", "The Wildcat", "A Night in Venice", "Threepenny Opera", "Paradise on Earth", and "Victor and Victoria". i will definitely tell you about the latter one day.
however, first I must introduce you to Hermann.
like Anton Walbrook, Hermann came from a famous acting family. his father, Hugo Thimig, was an actor, director and stage manager at the Burgtheater, one of the most important theaters in the world. Herman's brother and sister, Helene and Huns, were also actors. Helene was married to Max Reinhardt's.
Hermann made his debut at the Meiningen Court Theatre. since 1916 he performed at the Berlin People's Theatre (Volksbühne) under the direction of Max Reinhardt's. in the same year, he began acting in silent films. with the advent of sound cinema, Thimig moved away from the dramatic stage and played mainly in operetta films and comedies.
he starred with such widely popular actors as Ossie Oswald, Henny Porten, Renate Müller, Heinz Rümann, Hilde Hildebrand and Adolf Wohlbrück.
there is an inscription in German on the back of the photo, which I cannot translate in any way. please, if you are familiar with German, help me! it may not even have any historical value, but I'm terribly curious!

Treaty of Versailles is Signed
The signing of the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors.
June 28 1919, Versailles--The bulk of the peace negotiations took place in Paris, but the signing of the treaty would take place in the Palace of Versailles. In 1871, the German Empire had been declared in the Hall of Mirrors; 48 years later, the treaty signed in the Hall of Mirrors, it was hoped, would permanently end the threat of German aggression.
At 3PM, the German delegates, two ministers from the new German government were summoned into the Hall of Mirrors, and after some brief remarks by Clemenceau, they were directed to sign the treaty. Once they did, guns were fired outside to mark the end of the war, five years to the day after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Over the next 36 minutes, the Allied delegations, beginning with President Wilson, signed the peace treaty. There was one notable absence, however--the Chinese delegation. The awarding of Germany’s concessions in Shantung to Japan had caused outrage in China, and the government gave no instructions to its representatives in Paris. Wellington Koo had already decided that he would not sign unless given a direct order, saying “I hope they will not make me sign. It would be my death sentence.” Even if he had wanted to sign, however, Chinese students in Paris had assembled around Koo’s hotel, preventing the delegation from going to Versailles.
There were mass celebrations in Paris; in Germany, obviously, the mood was more subdued. Herman Müller, the German foreign minister, had maintained his composure while in Versailles, but this lasted only until he returned to his hotel: “A cold sweat such as I had never known in my life before broke out all over my body--a physical reaction which necessarily followed the unutterable psychic strain. And now, for the first time, I knew that the worst hour of my life lay behind me.”
Wilson, his goals accomplished, left Paris that night. By the next day, Wilson was in the Atlantic and Lloyd George was back in Britain. The peace conference continued--peace had yet to be established with Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, or the Ottomans--but the major players had gone home, and important matters would be resolved remotely or at smaller conferences (where Wilson would certainly not be in attendance) from now on.
Stay tuned for a deeper dive into the peace terms later today.

Quanti personaggi riuscite a riconoscere?
ENGLISH:
June 28, 1919, in Paris, in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, the same place that had seen in 1871 the proclamation of the German Reich after the victory of the Franco-Prussian war, the treaty that officially marks the end of the Great War is signed between the Allied nations and Germany.
Workers hurry to get the room ready, and as the ceremony begins the room is packed with people who want to attend an event of such historic importance. The Germans do not nominate their representatives until the last minute, it is not so easy to find someone who is willing to put his name on such a humiliating treaty. Eventually, two men are named as signatories: Herman Müller, a socialist recently appointed Foreign Minister, and the new Minister for the Colonies, Johannes Bell of the Center Catholic Party. Ironically, Bell's first act as Minister for the Colonies is to sign away the very colonies for which he had just assumed responsibility. Good for him, he has already been granted the portfolio of Minister of Transport.
The ceremony is brief, Clemenceau, the French prime minister, speaks shortly and the German delegates enter the room looking like prisoners about to hear their sentences. The ceremony ends after 50 minutes, without any fanfare, as it began. The last to sign is the Uruguayan foreign minister. It won't be long before the treaty begins to show all its limits ...
In the first illustration, the signing of the treaty by the two German delegates. How many characters do you recognize?

Character: Sophia Stauss
Resident of District 8. Daughter of Herman and Kehinde Müller. Eldest of four children. She is a Libra. A known recluse, though extraordinarily kindhearted to those she lets into her life. Is a self-described “metaphysicist” who heads a large “wellness organisation called the Zodianetics Society that has a strong philosophical views on how its members should live their lives and more importantly what wellness products owned by Zodianetics they should purchase to achieve this. This organisation avoided dissolution by the New Government during the Unpleasantness by having a few key members within the police. She inherited leadership of this organisation from her father, and it is responsible for her wealth.
