Mugwort is such a staple in my practice, subconsciously even. One of my favourite incense is Mugwort. My grandma used to tell me that Mugwort tea is great for tummy troubles, so I've been keeping that around ever since. It's growing everywhere in the backyard. What a great herb altogether. I love learning about its dreaming-related properties.

holy moly, we finally did the thing I've been intimidated about for weeks and went out back to check on the tree we designated as the Mouth for Agdistis offerings. we lit incense inside her hollow, burned mugwort-lavender-sage smoke grown from the same land, and poured out a full bottle of water around her roots. we asked if she consented to fulfill that role, to receive offerings for Agdistis and digest them into the Earth, and also receive honor and offerings to herself. we pulled a few cards about it from the Herbcrafter's Tarot and got the 10 of Water (red clover).

"Serenity rises from the roots of gratitude."

asking about how to honor the tree, and then for any other messages, we received Death (marigold) and the Seven of Earth (oak, not pictured).

"Pay homage to what must die."

"The seasons will give you direction."

as I was shuffling for the third card, we heard rumbling in the distance. I chalked it up to a passing truck because there wasn't rain in the forecast. but I paused in thumbing through the tarot guide book to note the soft sound of something dropping around us in the leaves. and by the time I was reading the third card meaning it was fully raining on us.

Rocket and I packed away our items and sat under the tree canopy, waiting for the rain to lighten, which it did not do. so we packed out and returned up the path to the house. a lighting strike hit close by - a half mile away, we now know. my laundry, hung out on the line for an afternoon with no rain in the forecast, got soaked.

so hail to this tree, we will honor her well, and we thank her for the gift of rain, the Ten of Water, which arrived at the perfect time to answer our questions and rehydrate our parched garden. incredible. I'll post better pictures after a drier interaction.

Story time: nightshade

[I originally told this story on Twitter back in May.]

Oh, I forgot, I was going to tell y’all: I apparently poisoned myself last week

Cooper [my dog, then a puppy] likes to eat weeds and wildflowers, so of course I’m grabbing them up before he lunges at them. I don’t go out front and weed without him because that would make sense. I use the Picture This app to identify wild rando plants, and grabbed two of these up:

I walk around clutching this weed, which feels unexpectedly juicy, looking for a temporary place to chuck it where Cooper can’t reach. Ah, the raised flower bed where we don’t let him go. Let’s go back and get the second wad of leaves, stroll around, follow Cooper around, good times

I want you to know that I knew what it was. But it didn’t have any flowers or berries, I was sure it was fine to just touch the leaves. I did know it was eastern black nightshade, even before the dizziness kicked in.

Within minutes, I broke into a cold sweat. Dizzy, nauseated, dry mouth, sort of limp in a chair for a while. At one point, I was seeing colors when I closed my eyes. Lasted about 2 hours. I cannot believe pulling up a weed did all this, but I can’t explain it otherwise.

I don’t even know how NIGHTSHADE ended up in my yard. If you see it, the underside of the leaves are a telltale purple. Do I have some kind of particular sensitivity to it? I don’t know. But it seems like the kind of thing that WOULD happen to me.

AND THEN. A truck pulls up. Orange and white? Flashing lights? I was not expecting anyone, much less while I was tripping on yard weeds. It’s a dude who says he’s there to mark where our utilities are. Where is the gas meter. Meter. Mee Ter. A lock? Open a lock. Gate? Keyyyyyyy

I think I actually did a very good job of pretending to not under the influence of yard nightshade, but I do not have independent confirmation of this.

To not BE. I swear a handful of leaves did not give me permanent damage, probably. PSA: Wear gloves when you weed.

some process photos of me blending my all natural lemon room and linen spray! there is lavender in there too to add a bit of softness to the bright citrus mist. after this tincture has infused for at least 4 weeks it will be ready to bottle 💛💜

i also chose lavender to blend with lemon because they’re both immunity allies, with a penchant for perking people up when they’re feeling blue

this was so much fun to make, and so calming. yesterday i crafted *so* many new medicines and creations for Bloom Again. i prayed over the medicines throughout the whole day and told them how i love them✨ i thanked each of them for the joy of collaborating with their essences to craft blends that can help people 💓

herbal medicines have been a deep part of how i take care of myself for a while now. but there was quite a while when i was studying herbalism where i *knew* what medicines would be so helpful - but i couldn’t afford them. and that taught me why they are so important, what it’s like to need what you don’t have. one of my main missions within Bloom Again is to help that person - whoever they are and however divine need may express itself

it’s the anxiety tinctures that soften my frayed edges and keep me rooted firmly in myself. it’s the hydrosols that center me with fragrant beauty while i take care of my skin. it’s the spoonfuls of lavender honey in my tea. the hawthorn tincture that holds me when i Grieve and feel alone. it’s the herbal ghee that calms me down so i can sleep in true peace.

and sharing these things with others is what brings my heart to life ❤️‍🔥
