Grimm, Chapter 1

Warnings:  coerced relationships, arranged marriage.

1981

Elizabeth looked at her friend, her woge nearly taking hold of her as the two shared a look.  Henrietta felt a blush crossing her cheeks and she looked down and away from the king of Spain.

“Why do you shy away, so?” he chuckled, reaching out to stroke the soft apple of her cheek, “are you afraid to look an old man in the eye?”

“I’m afraid that you’ll be afraid of me when you see what I really am,” she said softly, looking to him.  He bit back his own smirk before shooting a glance to his friend, and king of Austria, Frederick, “while the king of Austria seems smitten with Elizabeth, I know not of-“

“I have a similar taste,” he said simply, cutting the woman off as he removed his hand from her cheek and woged, revealing himself to be a muavais dentes, “show me your beauty, hexenbiest.”

She was shocked to see a member of the royal family was wesen, and more so to see it being a muavais dentes, as they were rare.  Her lips parted in a breathless gasp, and the big cat smiled.

“Do not be afraid, my beauty...I will not hurt you.”

She smiled, unable to play coy as her woge took over her face and she eyed the wesen down, “I have nothing to fear from a big pussycat.”

The light flickered over the king’s golden eyes as he eyed the hexenbiest ravenously, “I’m anything but a pussycat, mi amor.”

“What are you doing?” she asked, looking between the numerous attendants that had filed in and out of the room, “where are you going?  What is-“

Time stopped, and it felt like Henrietta’s ears popped. 

Her stomach started to contract once more, and she screamed as she felt her baby coming into the world. 

Time restarted, just like that, and the royal doctor nearly didn’t make it in time to catch the baby that came out of the hexenbiest. 

A crying noise filled the air, and the doctor gasped as he looked into the bright blue eyes of the baby he’d just delivered. 

What would normally be golden eyes for a mauvais dentes baby was ice blue for the one that Henrietta had just delivered.  And while she’d expected dark tufts of hair, she was shocked to see the smallest woge in her baby.  She was covered in short white hairs, with the pattern of the muavais dentes. 

“She’s beautiful...”

Tiredly, Henrietta looked at the king, and he was smiling proudly as he rushed into the room.  He kissed the top of her head, and she could hear the happy rumble emanating from his chest. 

“My king-“

“You’ve done well, my love,” he promised, pressing another kiss to the top of her head, before taking the baby girl from the doctor, “she’s gorgeous.  Even more perfect than I’d though-what’s wrong with her eyes?”

Henrietta looked at Fernando tiredly, “wh-what’s wrong with her eyes?”

“Muavais dentes have golden eyes when we woge.  Hers are ice blue...”

“She’s not all muavais, my king,” Henrietta reminded him, “she comes from me as well.”

“I just-I thought-“

“The most dominant genes come out,” she said simply, cutting him off without much thought as her eyes closed and she yawned, “but she is a hexenbiest as well...I felt it.  She stopped time right before she was born, my love...”

“a Muavais Dentes that stopped time,” he said wondrously, eyeing the newborn, “how curious...”

“What shall we name her, Fernando?” she asked softly, another yawn passing her lips as she found it harder and harder to open her eyes once more.

“The name we picked out, of course...Mariella, as she’ll be beloved by her people.  Francesca after your mother, Ada after my noble mother, and  De Espinosa for your family name and Rodriguez of mine.  And she is the princess of Spain.”

“Mariella Francesca Ada De Espinosa Rodriguez, princess of Spain,” she yawned, halfway asleep, “my king, that is a mouthful...”

“It is,” he chuckled admiringly as he looked at his daughter, who was already asleep and softly purring in his arms, “but it suits her.”

“It does...” Henrietta whimpered, drifting off to sleep, “it does.”

1984

“Papa...where is mommy?”

The king’s jaw held firm, and his wife looked at him expectantly. 

“Well, Fernando?”

“Jocelyn is your mommy, Mariella.”

The young three-year-old looked to her older brother, and the fourteen year old snarled at the Hexenbiest sitting opposite their father, “you are not her mother.  Just as you are not mine.  Nor are you Ferdinand-“

“Marnessier!” his father growled, woging in his eyes. 

Mariella nervously woged and clung to her eldest brother’s arm.  The seventeen-year-old put his arm around her, “calm yourself, Mariella...father isn’t going to hurt anyone.  You’re getting yourself worked up for nothing.”

“Papa...”

The king snapped out of his woge and frowned between his three children, “I have told the three of you that I have married Jocelyn, and that she is the queen, and your new mother...”

“I want my real mommy,” Mariella whimpered, leaning into her eldest brother as she began to sob, “I want-“

“Olivia, please remove Mariella,” the king commanded with a stern tone.  One of the many women who looked after the little girl appeared almost in an instant, but the fourteen year old rushed to her and swooped her up into his arms, “Marn-“

“I’ll take her to her room,” he growled, glaring at his father as his eyes woged, “she doesn’t need to be handed off like some broken toy because your new wife doesn’t get along with her.”

“She’s being a child!” Jocelyn groaned.

“She’s three,” Marnessier growled at the queen, “she is a child.”

“Marn-“

“I know, you don’t approve of me growling at your wife,” he grumbled, cutting his father off in an instant, “come on Mari...I’ll take you upstairs and get you bathed and put to bed...”

“But I’m hungry, Marney,” she whimpered softly as she tucked her face into her brother’s throat, “I-“

“Chef will make you something after your bath.”

Marnessier growled as the royal family from Austria tried to get closer to her.  He kept his little sister firmly behind him as his eldest brother Ferdinand joined his side, “What you are suggesting is sick.  She’s three.  He’s sixteen!”

“They wouldn’t be married right now, Marnessier,” Jocelyn giggled drunkenly as she sipped on the deep red glass full of wine, “it’s a business transaction...one where they just keep her in their castle instead of ours.”

“It’s not your castle,” Ferdinand growled, “and they aren’t going to be taking our little sister anywhere.”

“She was promised on the day of her birth to the son of Frederick, king of Austria, Fernando,” their father reminded the boys.  But both boys disregarded their father’s words, woging in front of the family members and staff that had been present for the trading off of the princess in exchange for loyalty to both families, “Fernando...Marnessier.  Back down, the both of you.  They were meant to take her back to their home in Austria so that she can be raised in her future country.”

“You all are sick!”

“It’s not like I’m all that happy about it either,” Eric groaned, “not only is she a Wesen, but she’s practically still a toddler.  My future wife is a baby.”

“Then reject the marriage!” Marnessier demanded.

But Eric only scoffed, “reject the marriage?  And let my father choose someone worse.  Or even more so, reject her and my father take away my right to the throne in the future.  I think not!”

“By going along with it you are say-“

“I’m not saying anything other than it is my duty to be party to whatever it is that my father and mother set up on my behalf,” he shrugged, not caring one way or the other, “this...just so happens to be it!”

“She will make a fine wife!” the queen commented sweetly, attempting to reach out her arms in hopes that the three-year-old would come towards her. 

But Marnessier and Fernando were both still fully woged, and glaring at the royals from Austria.

“Marnessier.  Fernando!”

They barely looked at their father once again as the king growled out their names.  They did, however, miss the fact that a stealthy little five-year old human had managed to sneak past them and was staring at the woged three year old with curiosity. 

She gave a little roar when his fingers grazed over her cheek, and he retracted, bumping into the back of Fernando. 

The two boys snapped around, facing their little sister and the boy who was now terrified at being surrounded by them.

“Who is he?”

“Kenneth!” Frederick growled, calling for the little boy, “Kenneth, bring the girl with you, boy!”

Kenneth held out his hand to her, his soft glance making the little girl feel safe enough to take it, and the two teenagers grabbed their little sister’s other arm in an instant. 

She gave them a scared, wide-eyed look as she glanced between them.

“Don’t go with him, Mariella.”

“I like his smile!”

The little boy smiled even more, feeling a little bit more courageous, “I can show you a pretty castle too.”

She returned a look to her brothers, “Nando...Marney...I want to see the castle...”

And the two boys let go of their little sister’s hand, unable to tell her no, but also unable to break her trust in a human that she didn’t know, because she was all too afraid of the world at such a young age already.

“I can show you it...if you come with me...”

“Nando...Marney?”

Marnessier looked between his father and the other family, “I’m not letting her go alone.”

“Marnessier, they aren’t tak-“

“I’ll go as her security,” he said firmly, “I-I’ll renounce my place in line, and join the service of the family, if it means that I get to stay with Mariella until she’s an adult...until she’s of age that she’s able to get married.”

“And after that?” Frederick asked curiously.

“So long as my sister stays, so do I...”

Frederick looked at his oldest of friends, “Fernando?”

Fernando’s jaw tightened.

He did love his son, but there was far too much rage between the two of them.  And he knew that if he did not allow his son to go with Mariella, the tension in their own relationship might just break.

“Is this what you want, Marnessier?”

“Someone needs to protect her,” he said firmly, “Fernando can watch Spain...I can watch out for my sister.”

Fernando nodded at Frederick and the king smiled, “two mauvais dentes...how marvelous.”

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a 2009 American computer-animated science fiction comedy film produced by Sony Pictures Animation. Loosely based on the 1978 children's book of the same name by Judi and Ron Barrett, the film was written for the screen and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (in their feature directorial debuts), and stars the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T, Benjamin Bratt, and Neil Patrick Harris. The film centers around an aspiring inventor named Flint Lockwood who develops, following a series of failed experiments, a machine that can convert water into food. After the machine gains sentience and begins to develop food storms, Flint must stop it in order to save the world.

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood (known as Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and often abbreviated to Daniel Tiger) is a Flash animated musical television series aimed at pre-school children aged 2-4. It was produced by Fred Rogers Productions, 9 Story Media Group and 9 Story USA (which also produces Blue's Room and Super Why!). It debuted on September 3, 2012 on PBS Kids, eleven years after the end of production for Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and nine years after Fred Rogers' death. The program is based on the Neighborhood of Make-Believe from Mister Rogers, the long-running family-oriented television series created and hosted by Fred Rogers that aired from 1968 to 2001. In 2019, the series was renewed for a fifth season, which premiered on August 17, 2020 with Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood: Won't You Sing Along with Me?, a musical special that deals with the COVID-19 pandemic. On August 20, 2021, the series was renewed for a sixth season, which premiered on September 5, 2022. A one-hour television movie titled Daniel Visits a New Neighborhood aired on June 20, 2022.

The series centers around Daniel Tiger (son of Mom Tiger and Dad Tiger). The series also features other children of the characters from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, such as Katerina Kittycat (daughter of Henrietta Pussycat), Miss Elaina (daughter of Lady Elaine Fairchilde and Music Man Stan), O the Owl (nephew of X the Owl) and Prince Wednesday (King Friday and Queen Sara Saturday's youngest son and Prince Tuesday's little brother). Two 11-minute segments are linked by a common socio-emotional theme, such as disappointment and sadness or anger and thankfulness. The theme also uses a musical motif phrase, which the show calls "strategy songs," to reinforce the theme and help children remember the life lessons. Many of the "strategy songs" are available in albums or as singles under the artist name "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood." The program is targeted at preschool-aged children; it teaches emotional intelligence, kindness, and human respect. Its content follows a curriculum based on Fred Rogers' teaching and new research into child development.
