For this memorial program, members of Hennix’s ensemble—Ellen Arkbro, Amir ElSaffar, Mattias Hållsten, Marcus Pal and Amedeo Maria Schwaller — presented Kamigaku in her absence, following the sonic ideals and performance practices that she specified - musicians should be allowed unrestricted space and time for them to be able to play (only) when they feel inspired and (only) for as long as they feel inspired.

Catherine Christer Hennix was a Swedish musician, poet, philosopher, mathematician and visual artist. As a musician, she worked with figures such as Pandit Pran Nath, La Monte Young, and Henry Flynt.

The polymath and drone pioneer had previously been treated for cancer

Catherine Christer Hennix, a Swedish polymath and pioneer of drone music, has died. She was 75 years old. The experimental music non-profit Blank Forms, a frequent distributor of Hennix’ music, announced her death on Friday (November 17). The New York Times reports Hennix’ cause of death as complications of an undisclosed illness. The artist had received treatment for cancer in the past.

"why do you even want to live??" before a flash of red and a searing, blinding pain.

Voe wakes up screaming. It starts as "No!" and turns into a wail as one hand clutches her chest and the other shoots out towards the darkness. A lightsaber– HENNIX's, flies to her hand, blood draining from her knuckles as her fingers seize the hilt. The blade's glow illuminates the room.

She's alone. Of course she's alone. It's been years since THAT happened and while a part of her knows that even in dreams, this time around it felt so REAL.

Her chest hurts, the scar that she never allowed the doctors to rid her of burns because of the memory– or perhaps it's the fact that the panic completely prevents her from drawing in breaths. Focus, she tells herself. Even with the lightsaber providing some light, the room is too dark to focus on any of the few belongings she has scattered around. So her attention turns to herself, and she makes a mental list: silver-colored hair clinging to her temples and forehead, drops of water, warm as they slide down her cheeks, cold as they make the way from the base of her neck down her spine, where they dampen the fabric of her cheek and make her shiver. The humming of her pulmonodes inside her chest, working overtime to pump what little oxygen is in there.

Voe manages to draw in a breath.

The blue blade of Hennix's lightsaber fades into the hilt with a hum. Voe squeezes her eyes shut, opens them only to be greeted by the familiar darkness of her room. The last words of Ben Solo play in her head.

Why do you even want to live?

The answer comes easily, spoken into the nothingness of her bedroom, for no ears but her own to catch and yet, she speaks the words with such certainty:

"To make you pay."
