lotf fandom is so funny because people here are like "i headcanon that Jack Merridew has substance abuse issues" and Jack Merridew is a 12 year old boy who tried to vote himself leader and start crying and ran away when he lost

I cried so much when i read page 154 of lotf because of the imagery but i couldnt understand what was so special about it. I now think its because golding makes simon so beautiful and the earth takes his body with such care and gentleness, which was something he never got on the island. What hurt even more was that simon would never be conscious again to see or feel the tenderness that was given to him by the sea.
