Blood Ball Open Starter
If someone had told her a year ago that she was going to be playing a fancy game of dress-up at a big froo-froo masquerade ball, rubbing elbows with some of the most influential demons in Hell, Visage would have laughed right in that person's face. And yet ... here she was--dressed to the nines, surrounded by others in their finest attire, enjoying the music that filled the halls. Life was strange, like that. Making her way to the refreshment table, she did her best to avoid the more ... 'local' fare, nibbling a few hors d'oeuvres as she people-watched. This was the sort of night where just about anything could happen ... and the inexperienced Overlord was more than ready for it.

Small disclaimer before you head in: this whole post will be referencing the TCB translation. I know VIZ handled the exchange I'm discussing differently, but I couldn't find anyone who talked about the original version and as a result I don't really know who is closer to the original meaning. In any case, the "analysis" should still stand. Whether Dragon was commenting Sabo's firmness or admiring his resolution, Sabo's still putting on a mask, and that's the point I'm trying to break down. Enjoy!
This very specific interaction between Dragon and Sabo in chapter 1083 has always stuck out to me.
"My, you really are unshakeable."
which is an appropriate response to what Sabo said, of course. What kind of sensitive person reacts that way to the death of an innocent, right?
Even so, I can't help but compare the thing Sabo said to his actual, genuine reaction to King Kobra's death.
He's devastated.
Sabo brokenly screams Kobra's name, and his expression is one of full despair; he never thought about killing Kobra, let alone letting him die. On the contrary, he actively tried to save him.
Kobra told him to just let him go, that he was dead weight and he shouldn't be concerned about him, but Sabo straight up refused. In fact, Kobra's actions read way more as a sacrifice than an inevitable death; the king let himself die, knowing that this way Sabo could flee and reach Vivi and Luffy safely.
On the Lulusian ship, we see Sabo think about Kobra's last words to him and actively trying not to cry (and failing).
That's not an unshakable man. He's suffering, he's grieving. He realizes he failed his very own mission of saving the king and lets the meaning behind Kobra's actions and words sink in.
It really puts his former reaction into perspective.
Sabo's firmness, seriousness and coldness in front of Dragon and Ivankov are nothing but a façade. He acknowledges that what he's about to say might come off as harsh, and that, even if he does feel sorry for Kobra, the tragedy doesn't weigh him down thanks to the results it brought, but it all sounds like he's reassuring himself more than actually showing his indifference.
Hell, he even drinks his glass of wine right after having said that "he doesn't really care". How can anyone take his words seriously?
And we've been knowing Sabo is inclined to do this sort of thing since Dressrosa; he acted all cool and composed in front of Luffy but the second Koala called him on the Den Den Mushi he was weeping, having a hard time believing that his little brother didn't punch him or hate him for being alive all along. He even denied he was crying!
All because Sabo hates being seen as vulnerable, especially in front of the people he thinks he has to be strong for (Luffy, Dragon, etc). It's something I think goes back to how his parents treated him, since they scolded him for, y'know, having emotions and being a normal kid in need of love, but i digress.
I once saw someone describing Sabo as a very cold person in comparison to his brothers, even going as far as to say that Sabo doesn't care if people die if it means achieving the Revolutionary Army's goals (using this very interaction as proof), which couldn't be further away from the truth.
Bonney even says outright that it's weird seeing a "radical revolutionary" act so friendly when Sabo helps her out. Why would he do this if all he ever did was for "The Cause"?
Yes, Sabo is ruthless, rude, violent at times, and his friendly demeanor could be seen as a little more volatile than that of his brothers', but he's not heartless. He's not a "meanings to an end" guy, he proves it time and time and time again, and it's disheartening seeing people label him as such.
Sabo is kind. He may not be as warm as Ace and Luffy, but he is fundamentally a good person. A generous, kind, caring, sensitive person.
No matter how hard he tries to hide it.
#tl;dr sabo is a very nuanced character and i love studying him#this could have been longer but i really wanted to post it before tomorrows episode#i may add to it later!!#revolutionary sabo#sabo#flame emperor sabo#if talking about him was a job i'd be filthy rich#when all of this gets animated i will be on the ground wailing and screaming and screeching#fool rambles#long-ish post#analysis post#???? kind??? of????#one piece spoilers#< just in case#idk if to tag all the other characters but i probably wont since this is all about sabo#oh right the dreaded main fandom tag#one piece#alright im DONE

Seeing the Maddie gif just reminded of all the wasted potential and storylines they could have had with Tommy and the bucktommy relationship. Because let's face it, for all of the mains it's the same storyline over and over again - we're not learning anything new about them. But then here we have a character who we sort of already know, who they've teased us with a bit of his history and it was like finally! A chance for something new! We could have learned more about his family, maybe see how Buck reacts meeting his father and then having to deal with his homophobic reaction to him, the man he loves and their relationship. He clearly sounded like he didn't have a lot of close friends/family/support outside of Buck - we could have explored that, have Buck be there for his man and show him how, you have me and the 118. We never got to see the whole "dating a fellow first responder and the challenges that come with that" - we've seen Buck in the hospital so many times, it would have been interesting to see Tommy in that hospital bed and Buck having to deal with the one being by the bedside for once, worrying about someone he loves, maybe making him fully appreciate everything his family had gone through in the past when HE was the one injured (like all the effort Maddie went into to look after him). We could have had Tommy and Eddie bonding over war stories - was Tommy discharged due to DADT? If so, we could have had conversations with Karen, who also was affected by that. Hell, if they were gonna do the stupid "he was engaged to Abby for two years" story, have Chim and Hen be like, dude, you were working with us all that time, how did we not KNOW (that story still makes no sense - he never mentioned her name to them? Because if he did, surely it would have clicked when they met her in S1 "oh, you're Tommy's Abby". But Tim acknowledged he retconned their relationship from an ex-boyfriend to ex-fiances so he clearly doesn't care.)
But most of all, despite being together for SIX MONTHS, we never saw Tommy and Maddie interact. Maddie was clearly excited for Buck ("tell me about the hot pilot"), she's married to Tommy's old friend, there was the perfect opportunity to see them start to bond over family dinner or something. We've never seen Maddie really click with any of Buck's LI's before, so it would have been nice to see Buck's whole world start to come together. And it could have led to family orientated stories for Buck for once - we always assume he wants kids because he says he loves kids and we see that with Chris, Jee etc. There could have been discussions for the first time about Buck's future - does he see himself getting married, having kids (and ugh, so annoyed that the first time Buck mentions the possibility of getting married is 30 seconds before his heart is crushed).
And that's not even going into the small things I wanted to see on-screen. I knew we were never gonna get anything too intimate - 911 is a bit prudish, they don't really do sex scenes, especially not since the first season, and hell, all their other main couples barely kiss as it is. But things like holding hands as they're walking down the street, talking about their day while making dinner together, waking up in bed together - small little domestic things that show how their relationship is developing. SHOW it developing. (Because while the snippets they showed of their relationship showed that they were growing more comfortable as a couple, a lot of that development happened off screen.)
This was the first time in a long time, maybe ever, that we saw Buck truly happy (that man was GLOWING, even covered in boils). For the first time, we could have seen his story GROW, instead of doing the same lather, rinse, repeat that has happened in all his relationships (Buck falls for someone, goes too hard too fast, they abandon him, he doesn't bother fighting for the relationship). We could have finally had a sprinkling of new storylines (Tommy wasn't a main, we obviously weren't going to get a hell of a lot, but if Karen can have her own stories/backstories, so could he). All that down the drain for what, Buck 1.0 again? Him jumping back on that hamster wheel of "find new love interest, it goes nowhere, he's single again". It's boring, and this show is on its 8th season - not only has this been played out for too long, who knows how much longer the show is gonna last. If it only goes until say season 10, that would have been two and a half seasons worth of seeing Buck be able to grow, get the love he always wanted (hell, maybe even get engaged, finish the series with a wedding implying he gets his happily ever after). Buck is only one member of an ensemble cast - they can't focus on him every episode, so two years is plenty of time to draw out only a handful of fresh stories. After 8 season, keeping him perpetually single for this long only works if he's always been played as like Joey off Friends - someone who is happy playing the dating game, not looking to go anywhere. Except Buck has been shown to be looking for love all this time - he doesn't want that single life (he doesnt want to "explore" Tim - screwing random men and women isnt going to help him find that love he's always wanted, especially when he already had it). But instead, they take it away from him AGAIN, and now they're back to square one. Sigh.
There’s so much i agree with here! They’ve tried to cram soooo many storylines into each episode that there’s no room to breathe. Everything feels stunted and half-assed. Tim said they didn’t want to ignore everything that happened at the end of 7, wanted to pick it back up, but they spent these first few episodes either destroying the storylines they built on, or ending them so abruptly it doesn’t feel satisfying. Nothing feels connected anymore. In early seasons you’d have them all working together on certain major storylines, but I’d doesn’t really feel like that happens now outside of calls. And the calls are so quick (besides the damn plane) that you don’t really connect with that either.
It would have been nice to see tommy and buck develop more, nice to see him involved with the group instead of just Eddie, nice to see them keep their word and try to make this love interest different from the rest. They did none of that.

A Breakdown of BuckTommy's Storyline Going Into Season 8 - Part II (Their Relationship)
Part I here.
With part II, I want to dive into what we know about their relationship going into Season 8, how their relationship is going, and how it might affect the other characters in the show.
The first explicit mention of Buck and Tommy's relationship's was in TVLine's preview. Tim Minear mentioned that Buck and Tommy are "still getting to know each other a little better" and the article mentions they are "going strong." Their relationship is mentioned positively in contrast to Buck's relationship with Gerrard, which is a negative relationship for him.
The TVLine article also mentions that Buck will have someone to complain to. We've already seen that Buck feels comfortable with opening up to Tommy about his emotions (the coffee date in 7.05 and dinner scene in 7.10), and that Tommy knows Buck enough to tell when he is uncomfortable and might want to talk about something. While they are still learning about each other, they've both demonstrated that they're treating their relationship seriously, and, going into Season 8, they are "a couple."
Tim Minear also mentioned that they are comfortable with each other, which builds from a Season 7 interview where he stated that Buck "feels safe" with Tommy. While they have some minor troubles, the foundation of their relationship is strong going into Season 8.
In the EW article, Tim Minear mentions that they also feel comfortable hanging out with Eddie. Eddie is Buck's best friend and Tommy's friend. I suspect this means that we will see at least one scene, and possibly more, with all three of them. We haven't seen the three of them interacting without other people there before, so I look forward to what that dynamic will be like. I think the three of them will have an easy dynamic, since the emotions from 7.04 have been worked out - Buck realized the source of his jealousy, he and Tommy are now dating, and Eddie has no issue with his friends' sexualities. If there is any tension, I think it will be because Eddie is third wheeling on a new couple who are still learning about each other and there is an inherent awkwardness in that, especially when it's two of your friends and you're trying to figure out that new dynamic.
The next thing Tim Minear mentioned was that "when you couple up with somebody, it takes up some of your time...Buck doesn't have as much free time as he did before." The way I interpret this to mean is that Buck will be spending quite a bit of time with Tommy. We knew he already was - Bobby clocks that he's going to spend the night with him, and Buck goes home to have dinner with Tommy - but it's further confirmation that we will be getting more scenes of them as a couple in Season 8.
The part I elided said that Eddie will be "a little bit out in the cold," which I interpret to mean that we may see fewer Buck and Eddie scenes in Season 8. The two are best friends, so I am positive they will have some scenes together, but Eddie will have to find someone else for support. He usually leans heavily on Buck - something that Ryan Guzman has said is a pattern for Eddie that "doesn't offer maturity" and that Eddie should be "self-reflective" and realize that he has to deal with difficult conversations alone. Tim Minear also mentions that "everything was stripped away from Eddie" and it's "time for him to figure out who the hell he is."
A pre-occupied Buck also offers Eddie chances to interact more with other characters. Ryan Guzman has said that Eddie "might be seeking out Cap in a way that he never has before." He has also stated he wants scenes with Maddie, Karen, and Athena. Not being as tied to Buck allows Eddie a chance to grow as a character and develop new relationships.
I expect to see Buck and Tommy's relationship growing - and the audience seeing that through their scenes together. It also provides opportunities for the writers to explore new dynamics for other characters who often spend time with Buck. We saw in the deleted scene that Hen and Karen were curious about their relationship, and Hen comments on them when they walk into the hospital room together.
In short, their relationship adds new dimensions to the show. Buck enters a relationship with a man and navigates the 118's past. Tommy is recontextualized, and provides a support for Buck while also having his past with the 118 explored. Even though the season is just beginning, their relationship is already woven into the show, and isn't shoved off into its own space. It's ripe for exploration, and I am excited for what comes next for them.

Do you think it’s possible that Jikook took a break in their relationship last year, the time everyone talks about, referenced in the car talk? Or even broke up? I just can’t chase the feeling?
No I have never believed so.
What I think is that there might have been some physical distance involved because of their respective schedules that developped a form of longing to be even more together ("You're here, finally").
But none of their interactions last year indicated anything that resembled a break-up or a break or anything. When you go through something like this there would automatically be a noticable difference in behaviour, something way more drastic than what we've seen. But it was business as usual, no change in behaviour at all. They still acted in love and they were happy when interacting and maybe they missed each other (probably because of schedule) but there was nothing indicating any form of emotional separation. Trust me, we would have noticed. Especially in a break of a long-term relationship like theirs.
Let's keep in mind that during all this time they were planning to enlist together. If you're in a break or anything would you plan to spend 18 month with someone you are on a break with? No. Because things would be uncertain. But things have never been uncertain for those two.
Yes circumstances might have been more difficult, some physical distance (and like come on that's not even counting the many times they've seen each other without us knowing about it), the questions about being together in military or not might have put them under a bit of stress, but I don't think there never was any doubt about the solidity of their relationship.
The proof of it was enlistment.
I don't know if people truly realize what a huge commitment and statement this is.
And if you count the fact that they made 3 (!) trips right before, to even spend more time together, there's no better way to tell that one of their top priority is each other.
They could have made those trips with family, with friends, with literally anyone. And I wouldn't have blamed them, they were already supposed to spend 18 month together, hell even in normal romantic relationships it would have been totally acceptable to do so.
But no, they spend those 3 trips together.
18 month was not enough, because they needed quality time before that, it was that important to them.
So you would believe they would willingly split up, take a break, not be together at any point in time? When they make a point of showing how much spending time together means to them and their well-being? This would make no sense.
Why would they take a break if being together is that essential to them?
Jungkook was begging to see Jimin at some point, begging.
They need each other.
They needed each other so much they went above and beyond to be in military together, they made space into their schedule to travel, and I'm sure they've seen each other in private when the schedule allowed.
They want to grow old together. They showed us they are fully committed into this relationship. In their mind it's a done deal.
So no, to me there wasn't a break or anything. And I don't think there really will be in the near future.
Hope this answers your question anon,
Take care

4 Minutes, Family, and Perceptions of Reality
Last week, before episode 6 aired, I was itching to pen some thoughts about breaking down family ties in 4 Minutes and how I thought themes like intergenerational trauma and filial piety (I stay so typical here on this blog) were affecting each character.
I'm glad I held off, and it's still probably just too soon to write this kind of analysis without knowing the entirety of the story. But this post by @cookie-kat777 about Great and possible present depression has me thinking at least about family, the way we are raised, and how our upbringings at least contribute to how we see the world as adults.
In this past Friday's episode, with @cookie-kat777's post on my mind, Great struck me as lonely and sociopathic -- and did Bible Wichapas ever do a HELL of a job acting out Great's generally questionable reactions as compared to everyday, normal social expectations of behavior surrounding INCREDIBLY intense and traumatic exposures to literal murder and/or death. At least we see him taking meds, but those giggles at the dinner table with his family were clearly off-putting and indicated that Great is not quite “there” in the head.
Even if Great didn't know about the illegal gambling business that built his wealthy lifestyle -- the choices, separately, that his father and his mother made to ensure their existence as a wealthy and important family certainly had brutal impacts on Great as he grew up, as well as, we assume, their emotional neglect of him during his upbringing.
(And, if I can bring up an example from the previous timeshift of earlier in the series, we know Great's parents used money to literally buy him happiness by way of toys that had no emotional meaning to him. Money may have bought him protection from consequences, but we've known from the start that it's never brought him happiness.)
Great's perception of what's SAFE and morally/ethically RIGHT, or at least, ACCEPTABLE, in the wider world, versus his own internal world, are UTTERLY OFF. While @cookie-kat777 absolutely lays out how that mental state could affect Great internally vis à vis depression, I'll also posit that it was Great's family environment -- his mother, his father, and Korn growing up knowing that he'd inherit at least some of the family business -- that also is fucking up his perception of the expected binary of "right" and "wrong" of society. We don't know quite how his mother clawed her way to Great's father's side, without Korn's mom present, but I'm going to guess it was brutal -- especially, as we see in this latest timeshift, Great's ability to walk away from death multiple times, and his father's angry ease in making death "go away," as it were (and let's throw Title in there, too).
A child's understanding of the world, how to go about in the world, how to interact in the world, how they relate to the external world, comes so much from their upbringing. An upbringing of a child creates relativity for that child. As children, we see the world as our caretakers interacted in it, and we're inclined to repeat that behavior -- until we are challenged by external forces to change our behavior and our viewpoints. Just as the four minutes from the time oxygen is cut off to a brain creates a new sense of perception, a specific upbringing of a child -- by parents, by grandparents, by a foster family, by an orphanage, etc. -- will have direct impacts on how that child grows up to relate to its world as an adult.
Tyme is the person that offers a challenge to Great's understanding of and relation to the external world and, subsequently, Great’s internal world as well. In this new timeshift of episode 6, I appreciate how Tyme seems so much more bitter, transactional, and "real" in straight-up using Great -- all while Great admires Tyme's tenacity to fuck with Great's family, as if Tyme were doing an action that Great has longed to do against his own family. Great ultimately does something, a one thing, in saving Tyme, but Tyme still walks away from Great, and Great is still left alone.
But in that process of being left alone, AGAIN, this time by someone who challenged him -- Great then moves forward to challenge his own existence and upbringing, confronting, finally, his parents for their decisions, and driving away from his mother. ...
... only to get shot by a grieving person in Tonkla, someone seeking revenge for a murdered brother that Tonkla simply loved. No matter where this story goes, at least we know that Tonkla loved Dome, to the extent of murdering others on Dome's behalf. While this storyline also isn't fully revealed, the Tonkla/Dome storyline narrates back to us, in another strange way, how family and familial ties can drive a person to go utterly haywire in their existence to survive and understand the world.
And, finally -- we learn that Tyme's parents were possibly the kingpins of the Sriwat illegal gambling business. How Tyme sees the world, in whatever timeshift he's in, has now also gotten jacked up with this piece of potential truth. What is his new reality vis à vis what he's been told? What is his capability to survive, especially after being saved by Great?
Like I said before, ha: I think it's too early to write this post without knowing if we'll be given a final, central narrative line about how all of these timeshifts link up. But I am LOVING, in this FABULOUS show, how we're being shown that the truths of how our families lived their lives can have such great impact on the way WE live OUR lives as adults, and I'm taking that theme away as something this show is commenting so very sophisticatedly on.

Azriel in Silver Flames
I've basically hated the IC since... Acowar, honestly. But the more I think about it, the more conflicted I am about Azriel. I liked him in every book, but in retrospect, I'm not so sure anymore. This is mostly regarding his treatment of Nesta, since he honestly didn't do much before hand the start of Silver Flames, and he didn't do too much during it either.
I understand why Azriel would stay away from Nesta from the end of ACOWAR to the start of Silver Flames. He's observant, and I imagine he's figured out that Nesta doesn't want to spend time with the IC. Moreover, he may also see it as being in Feyre's jurisdiction, and wanting to stay out of it out of respect for her privacy and what not. It's his behaviour through out silver flames that has me conflicted.
Azriel was raised in confinement with limited interactions with other people. He saw his mother once a week, for limited time and suffered physical and verbal abuse, and torture during that time. He had no control over his schedule, food, social interactions, nothing. Yet, despite that, he allowed Nesta to be isolated and kept on a strict schedule and diet that she has no say in, and we never see any signs of him arguing against it. Especially since he knows being locked up somewhere against your will, where you can't leave, often made to do things you don't want, is what most of the IC's trauma roots from (Amren in the Prison, Rhys UTM, Feyre UTM, Mor in the CON, Azriel in his father's dungeon, etc). Why the, seemingly, most sensible person allowed this is beyond me.
Azriel, through out the book, never protests against this treatment either. He treats Nesta decently, though that is the absolute minimum. She should've been treated like that, regardless, of where she was or what she was doing.
He despises Illyria, knows the dangers out there, from both males and whatever's in those forests, yet he doesn't protest against Nesta going. We've seen that there are days where she wanders around on her own (like when she went to Emerie's), without protection. What would happen if she jumped off a cliff or a steep bluff? Or if she went into the forests? What about if some of the males attacked her? It's not like she was constantly supervised. trusting her witch status will keep them away is too risky, since some might not care. Azriel knows the dangers of Illyria, and he let her be taken there. He saw how Illyria hurt his mother, and how she was treated, first hand.
He doesn't do anything even after suspecting that Cassian pushed her down the stairs, or witnessing her being verbally abused by Cassian, and Rhys when he cares to show up. He doesn't defend her, or shut his brothers down, he just lets it happen, seemingly unbothered. Idk about you, but if I was at dinner, and my brother said to his girlfriend, the things that Cassian says to Nesta, I'd drag him out the front door by the hair myself.
Azriel also had a bag packed for Nesta and Cassian's hike from hell, waiting for Cassian to come get it. He let Cassian take Nesta somewhere else against her will. He, presumably, knew about the plan to take her on that hike, helped prepare for it, and just let it happen without a care. He knew where they were taking her, and what they were going to make her do, and he let it happen.
Then there's the issue regarding the Trove. Azriel pushes for Nesta's right to know about what her powers can do, yet he doesn't have any issue pushing her into life threatening situation to keep Elain from it? He says that Elain shouldn't be exposed to whatever darkness the trove and cauldron possess, but that alone implies that Nesta should be exposed to it, and that's despite her mental condition at the time.
While I don't think Azriel's status as a spymaster means he should know things like Nesta's fear of fire, and her suicidal ideation, but it does mean that there's a very good chance that he does (and yet he still sends her on that hike). Knowing this, Azriel implies that Nesta should go on these life threatening missions, where she could be killed, or commit suicide, or be taken.
Azriel is shown to stand up to/argue with Rhysand in the bonus chapters. He does so for himself and arguably Elain. Why doesn't he do it for Nesta too?
It's all of these little things that leave a bitter taste in my mouth regarding Azriel.
Would he have tried to beg/force Nesta to go instead of Elain had she refused, or if he would've stood up for Nesta if Cassian had become physically violent with her. If she refused to go on that hike, would he have fought for her right to chose like he did before? If Rhys tried to kill her, would he stand up to him for her? If Elain is mistreated in her book, would he stand up for her? If so, why not Nesta too? How can he call himself her friend if he doesn't at least try to talk about how wrong it is, assuming he even realises it's wrong to start with.
We haven't gotten much of his pov yet, and he doesn't really say much, but from what I have seen, I'm concerned. Azriel may not be actively trying to hurt Nesta, but it feels like he enables his brothers and his court too much.
Didn't Tamlin dod the same, along with his court, who watched Feyre whither away, and did nothing. Even if they didn't see what was happening in her head, they saw her wasting away from lack of sleep or food. Isn't Azriel doing the same to Nesta by letting her be treated that way? Reaming neutral still makes him part of the problem, doesn't it?
Am I the only one who gets this bad taste in my mouth when I think about this?

Hello again, nonny!
Oh god, I'm so sorry how long this request took me to make.
I really wanted to make your request since you seem really sweet, but I struggled so much! I changed formats and ideas for your request at least 20 times and I'm so burnt out both creatively and in my personal life.
I'm not fully satisfied with my work, I feel like this piece could've been a bit better. But anyways I really hope you'll find the final results acceptable, and I'm again sorry for the way too long wait.

🍎🎶//Not such an awful colour after all...//🎶🍎
(Lilith and Lucifer x gender-neutral!imp!reader)
___________________________________________
Type: Fanfic
Settings: Romantic
Genre: Fluff, though a bit of hurt/comfort feel,
!TRIGGER WARNING!: Reader is hinted to be lonely and maybe a little depressed, hints of Reader having been mistreated in the past, occasional swear words used, idk if it's a trigger but Lucifer is a little awkward at interacting with gender-neutral reader at first (but he's supportive!), mentions of typical Hazbin Hotel stuff like hell, violence, etc., I believe the interaction between Lucifer and Lilith will give you second-hand embarrassment (but I imagine them being this lovey-dovey with each other, sorry), reader is also quite awkward and you'll probably also have second-hand embarrassment from this, and maybe a bit of not-sexual predator/prey feel in some parts is you squint (really not intended in a sexual way), and that should be all!
Sidenote: Reader is written as gender-neutral as per request. But if reader seems to be leaning towards more feminine sense, it's purely unintentional and I apologize!
Sidenote: Lucifer's portrayal is based off what we've seen in the show. As for Lilith, she's written as how the fandom's been portraying her before official release,
Sidenote: It's possible that reader might be a little neurodivergent coded. I just wrote what felt natural to me, and since I'm not a neurotypical, it might've affected Reader's portrayal,
_
That should be all,
Enjoy,

Ah, those skies of red. Those sweet skies of red, they're all you've ever known.
Just those skies of red. And streets painted in blood, their shade makes you feel at home.
Skies of red, bloodied streets. As well as endless labyrinths bathing in the shade of ruby.
This is what makes up your entire world as a whole.
What makes up every twist, and every corner, even the littlest of crannies.
The colour of red - it seems to be an ever present companion.
A never leaving company, one that cannot be escaped no matter where you go.
Perhaps it is a punishment given to the sinners - to spend eternity in a sea of blood.
And only have a few distant memories of all the colours life holds.
A punishment to daily remind sinners of that one simple truth.
That just like the Pride ring is drained of colours, they themselves are drained of humanity.
At least, that's what's being passed on as the truth...
You yourself are not one of them, you're not a soul lost to sin and temptation.
And yet, you live the same exact way they do - in a single colour world.
Which is the only world you have ever known.
You may be an imp, sure.
You may have the upper hand over sinners, being able to travel outside Pride.
However, hell works just the same way the human world does.
At least in some ways.
Same as with humans, if you in hell don't have the means, the only travelling you can afford is taking out the trash.
And that's all. Nothing more, nothing less.
If we're bring honest here, you actually don't feel like you have the upper hand in this.
Especially considering the fact you're a lowly imp that can barely make a living.
If anything, you would say that sinners are the ones in the lead here.
Because they had experienced something you'd never have - a life outside of hell.
Before getting to hell, all sinners got to experience all the wonders of life.
Especially all those beautiful colours life could hold and come with - something you could only dream of.
You often wonder, though, just how it must feel to have everything you know taken away.
First having everything, and then ending up in a place that lacks most of what used to make up your whole world.
It's a pretty good punishment for sins if you think about it long and hard enough.
But you still don't think it's fair this punishment to see nothing but shades of red involves you too.
You never did anything wrong, and yet you live the same way sinners do.
And that's a fact you've still not accepted, and you probably never will.
The other imps in the Pride ring never seemed to be as bothered by this though.
They never really agreed with your desire of wanting more than just this.
Not even those that were the same as you - without the option to travel or move out of Pride.
Even your own parents always said that you were making this into too much of a big deal.
They didn't understand you, just like none of the other imps around you did.
That fact alone has always made you feel really singled out throughout your whole life.
You felt alone, and like no one really got you or your frustrations regarding living in a single colour world.
You felt like such an oddball - and the other imps didn't really help on that regard.
Most of them would point their fingers at you, and ridicule you.
You experienced that treatment especially when you were younger, still a naive little child.
Because back then you didn't know it was better to keep your mouth shut if your opinions didn't match what the rest thought.
You didn't know any better, but eventually, you've learned to keep such things to yourself.
You had to if you didn't want to continue being lonely and mistreated.
And so, you've pushed your distaste for the colour of red aside, never mentioning it ever again.
Or well, that's how it was until a really unusual and extraordinary day.
On one certain day, a beautiful, vividly turquoise rose was found in Pride.
And it was such an unusual sight that the petite little flower was taken and placed into a museum.
Yet, no one really seemed to care for that small little bloom.
No one really rushed to the museum building to see that little piece of miracle.
No one was excited about it.
No one except you.
It sure felt lonely all over again to be the only one there.
The only one standing in front of the flower secured behind the protective glass.
The only one eagerly wanting to take in every little detail of the flower with true and genuine enthusiasm.
But at the moment you finally got to live your childhood dreams, it didn't really matter.
It was not your loss, it was your gain.
And so, you stood there, gazing fondly at the petite bloom.
And as you did so, you eventually found yourself talking to the flower gently.
"Aren't you just the prettiest little thing all of hell's ever seen?".
You melted over the little miracle as if it could hear.
You spoke to it, letting those turquoise petals know just how much you admired them.
And you could've cared less about whether or not you looked silly.
This was a dream come true - and you've made sure that the little thing knew.
"You have no idea how much I've been wishing for something like you to happen here in hell...".
You found yourself confessing, telling the flower all you've kept inside for years and years.
All of what you've had to push aside and share with no one until this single moment.
And it felt amazing to finally let it all out after suppressing it all for so long.
Even if that small thing probably couldn't even hear or understand any of what you've shared.
Even if all you got in response was just and only deafening silence.
Silence that reminded you that you're the only one around.
The only one to have these certain thoughts regarding your hatred for the colour of red.
And your frustrations about your desires to see more of the colours life can hold.
You really were all alone on this one it seemed...
"Truly a sight to see, am I right?".
A voice broke you out of your thoughts.
And you then found yourself facing a stranger.
An ordinary height man - one with porcelain skin and golden locks for hair.
And two vividly yellow pools for eyes, with their centers of blood red.
Blood red - that one damn, awful shade that you held so much hatred for.
And yet, despite that, you had to admit that the man was quite the looker.
And he definitely knew how to dress - all fancy, and, dare you'd say, flawless.
Well, flawless if you ignored the presence of the colour red in his attire.
But nonetheless, he was truly something you could stare at for hours and not get bored.
And it was quite the surprise that such a man would approach someone like you.
A lowly imp - a creature beneath nearly all of hell kind.
"I wasn't talking about myself, you know?".
The man's voice brought you out of your thoughts for the second time today.
And as his teasing words settled in, you realize that you've been caught staring at him!
A blush immediately covered your face at that realization.
And you profoundly attempted to apologize, stumbling over your words as you did.
The stranger, however, didn't seem all too bothered, nor did he seem disgusted.
If anything, he looked amused, and the warm chuckle he gave reassured you about that assumption.
"Oh, it's nothing to get worked up over,".
The man silenced you gently, waving his hand dismissively.
"I am aware of the effect I have on women, men...".
He went on casually before pausing, and looking you up and down.
"As well as pretty little things such as yourself...".
He grinned at you seductively, but then you could almost see the gears turning in his head.
And as his eyes widened at what seemed to be a realization, his face shifted to a look of panic.
"Sorry- am I allowed to call you a thing? That's not offensive, is it?".
He questioned, making your embarrassment ease up.
He seemed as socially awkward as you at that certain moment.
And you couldn't help but smile as he sputtered some more.
"Fuck- sorry, would it be more acceptable to call you a pretty little person?".
The stranger asked, looking genuinely panicked about the situation.
But before you could reassure him, he went on a tangent.
"Wait- that's probably-".
He sputtered, stumbling over his words without catching a break.
It would be quite a comical sight to see - Him, a gorgeous demon - stressing over possibly having insulted a mere imp.
And to the point of nearly crumbling and begging for forgiveness too.
Truly a scene one doesn't get to see on the daily basis.
You might've even laughed at him if only you didn't feel quite bad for him.
He was obviously a decent person and meant well.
Which was not something you see in hell everyday either.
"Sorry! I've not romanced a gender nonconfirming individual before,".
The man chuckled awkwardly, nervously reaching out with his hand to fix his hat.
But then he almost seemed to choke back on his own chuckle before he, as if in a rush, added:
"-but I'm not actually trying to romance you! I'm just-".
He didn't get to finish his ramblings as you've decided to finally ease his nerves.
"It's all good, no worries,".
You gently cut the stranger off with a friendly chuckle.
And you even offered a soft smile to add to your reassurance.
You genuinely didn't want for this man to stress himself out - he seemed quite sweet.
"You did pretty well for your first time,".
You added in a light-hearted voice, feeling the need to relax the man further.
And to your words, the stranger responded with a surprised blink of his eyes, and his mouth going agape.
But that reaction was short lived as he soon grinned, looking pretty proud of himself.
"I did?".
Was the following verbal answer your reassurance received.
And being the good-natured person you were, you nodded in confirmation.
You didn't get annoyed with him, you actually enjoyed this interaction a lot.
It was like a breath of fresh air to finally talk to someone real.
And someone who was friendly and not a mean-spirited bitch at that!
"Wow, that's... That's a huge relief!".
The stranger chuckled again, but this time it was less awkward, and more warm and relaxed.
"It sure wouldn't do my reputation any good if I were to insult one of my subjects,".
He mused casually while tugging a little at his coat and fixing it to his liking.
"even if by complete accident,".
He added, but then his previous words sunk in, and you had to do a double take.
What did he mean by 'subjects'?
"Um... subjects?".
You voiced your thoughts and confusion, to which the man, still grinning, raised an eyebrow.
"Well, yeah?".
The stranger said with a voice tone that hinted it should be obvious, as if there was no place for confusion.
But you only stared at the man, clearly not getting the memo.
Yet, the man didn't seem offended, he actually seemed more amused than anything.
"Wait, you actually-?".
He broke put into a short, yet hearty laugh as he gripped onto his hat.
He laughed, but he didn't seem to be ridiculing you or have any ill will.
He just seemed to find the whole situation entertaining.
"My- oh, my!".
The stranger's laughter died down, only a few low chuckles leaving him as he uttered those words.
"Now that's something I don't see every day! You don't really do politics, do you?".
He asked you with a playful smirk, his sharp teeth peeking out from under his upper lip.
And you answered with a shake of your head, confirming the man's suspicions.
"Ah, that explains it,".
The stranger mused as he casually leaned onto his cane in the shape of an apple.
"Well, fortunately for you,".
The man began after a short pause, his eyes half-lidded and relaxed.
With a laid-back grin to complete the look.
"I'm not really one of those stuck-up royals who quite literally lose their shit over people not recognizing them,".
He gave a warm chuckle, along with a look of the same warmth as his laugh.
Like sweet honey stirred into a warm cup of tea.
Then, the stranger with the eyes of ruby put his free hand on his hip.
And he casually crossed his legs, all while still leaning against his cane.
He made his pose look so easy, and completely effortless. Like he had no weight the cane needed to support.
It was quite impressive.
And you wondered whether the man really weighed close to nothing.
Or if it was some sleight of hand kinda deal used to gain admiration from others.
Well, whichever case it were, the cane was perfectly still and straight.
As if the handsome demon wasn't even leaning on it.
"Yeah, that's not really my style,".
You heard the male say, drawing your attention back to him instead of the spear-like cane.
And you looked at the male just in time, because you got to see him casually checking his nails at the end of his statement.
Or well, you got to see him looking at where his nails would be as the stranger had black gloves on, giving no access to his nails.
But still, the gesture got the point across.
You understood the action was to deliver his words in a more smug and careless fashion.
Like he saw himself as above the rest of the popular demons.
And maybe as if he looked down on the others.
Not others as in low class.
Others as in the other royals, those who felt insulted if one didn't recognize them.
But that's beside the point.
What mattered more than how he said it, was the context of what he said.
Because the message that sunk in was clear - this man was a high class it seemed.
"Oh... so, you're a royal...?".
You found yourself saying in a way that made it seem like you were asking.
Like you weren't just repeating what was said to you, but like you wanted to hear a confirmation.
But despite that though, the voice tone you spike in wasn't really impressed nor intimidated.
Unlike what would've been expected of you upon such a find.
But your reaction was genuine, contrary to what one might think.
You truly weren't really impressed or intimidated by the revelation - you didn't find any reason to be.
One could call you naive, but you didn't feel the need to cower or be in awe.
Because this handsome demon didn't seem to want that sort of thing.
At least, that's what you assumed based on your interaction so far.
For the demon acted like a normal and ordinary demon, an equal to you even.
And not just that - he's been sweet and considerate the entire time too!
Not to mention you never got just why were royals such a big deal.
So, your disinterest in the man's status was your genuine reaction, it was no act.
"Sure am,"
The stranger nodded in agreement with your words, a low grin decorating his flawless face.
And you couldn't help but feel this laid-back aura coming off him, he seemed like he had little to no care in the world.
And he gazed at you with soft eyes that welcomed you in despite how much you despised their colour.
Oh, and the way he looked at you...
It made you feel like he wasn't bothered by your lack of reaction or lack of appeal for the fact he was a hight class.
It actually felt like he appreciated it. And his next words seemed like a confirmation of that.
"but, you don't have to worry your pretty little head about it,"
He waved his hand dismissively before addressing you with a:
"my dear little any-colour-but-red enthusiast.".
And the way he's addressed you made you pause.
And as your eyes widened, you had to do a double take.
You needed to let the title he's given you fully sink in.
And oh, when it did, your entire being filled shame and embarrassment.
Because if you got it right, then the man's heard your one-sided chat with the flower!
That one embarrassing heart to heart conversation no one was supposed to hear...
"Wait-".
You muttered, feeling your face beginning to heat up.
"you... you heard me...?".
You asked, and you couldn't even say anything more.
You were so embarrassed!
If one could die from shame, you'd be found dead right on your spot at least twice.
And yet, a part of you still hoped the male wouldn't confirm your worries.
A part of you still believed the situation wasn't so bad.
But then all your hopes were shattered.
"Mhm, I sure did,"
The handsome stranger confirmed much to your dismay.
And you were internally screeching.
You were caught sharing your frustrations with a petite bloom.
Talk about awkward.
You were surprised the stranger didn't run from you.
Fuck, this embarrassing moment was gonna stay on your mind til you die.
Even on your death bed this moment would be in your head on repeat.
"Oh my fucking-".
You sputtered and buried your face into your hands.
And you couldn't stop the involuntary, annoyed groan at the situation.
"I... damn... I'm sorry you had to see that...".
You eventually managed to tell the stranger after getting the courage to face him again.
"I would swear to you thar I'm not as odd as I may look right now,"
You went on, despite not knowing why exactly.
You felt the need to explain yourself, make yourself look better.
But you couldn't really.
"but I, unfortunately, do shit like that pretty often,"
Followed your confession.
Being true was the key, right?
Maybe it'd help in your case? You didn't count on
it.
And yet, the friendly demon surprised you.
"That's quite alright,"
You heard him chuckle.
And just like you previously reassured him, now he was to reassure you.
"if anything, I think you're quite endearing.".
He reassured you, voice warm and sweet, just like his eyes and the look he was giving you were.
And you did feel a bit calmer after his words for sure, although you still couldn't get over the fact this man's heard everything.
After all, what you told the flower wasn't something you'd tell just anyone. Let alone to someone you didn't know at all.
But then, the male spoke up again.
"And, between you and me...".
He started, looking into your eyes.
And then, he said those words you've always wanted to hear.
"I agree with you, hell could use more colour.".
There it was. Those words no one's ever told you. Those words you've always craved to hear.
Someone was agreeing with you and sharing your frustrations.
It felt like a dream.
You needed to pinch yourself, just to be sure this was real.
Your ears weren't deceiving you, were they?
"You... you really think so?".
You asked the stranger, your voice low, words cautious.
You didn't want to risk anything.
Your thoughts were racing, you were all tense, and you almost held back your breath as you waited for the man's response.
The male was quiet for a bit, prolonging your nervousness.
But it didn't seem like it was deliberately to make you suffer.
Since his expression softened - his grin was less wide, less smug.
And his eyes held something in them that was hard to read.
It seemed like recognition or compassion...
And maybe if one looked close enough, they would see a hint of sadness and longing.
As if, long time ago, the man's lost something he cherished dearly.
You've never seen anyone look like that.
And maybe this was why you felt the stranger's words were true.
That he was sick of living in a world made of shades of red just like you were.
"Yes, I do,".
He nodded, melancholia taking over the demon's features.
"Losing the opportunity to witness all the colours life can carry is something I mourn over from time to time...".
He confessed to you as he stood straight again, hus stance no longer relaxed, and he gazed longingly at the turquoise rose.
"You know, when I'm in a certain mood...".
He added with a bit lighter tone and a soft smile sent your way.
As if he was trying to make his words seem more light-hearted and not bring the mood down.
His words made a few questions arise in your head.
He confessed to have known a world filled with colours, which would hint at him being a sinner.
But then again, he said he was a royal, so he couldn't be a sinner.
It was confusing, and you had several questions, but you didn't have it in you to ask.
Instead you remained silent, gaze fixating on those turquoise petals.
Yet, you didn't leave the stranger without a reaction.
It may have been daring, maybe even improper, to do this to a royal, but you felt it was the right thing to do.
And so, you gently placed a consoling hand on the man's arm.
And when the male looked at you with a surprised look, you offered a soft smile and eyes full of compassion.
A look to let him know he wasn't alone in this.
And that gesture seemed to mean a lot to the demon as he offered a light smile back, his eyes seeming more lively after your act.
And you two exchanged a gaze of understanding one another, both of you feeling seen.
And then, the two of you gazed back at the turquoise rose, both of you admiring it in silence.
But this time neither of you were alone. This time you both had someone there with you. Someone to share this special moment with.
This was a moment that meant more than any personal possessions - this moment meant everything.
Yet, getting to have everything at one moment doesn't necessarily mean you'll get to keep that everything.
Such moments were a matter of a few minutes, not a lifetime.
And the reminder of this simple truth, came in a form of a voice.
A female voice that awoke a sense of familiarity in you.
Yet, you could not remember where you've heard that voice before.
And and picturing the owner has proven to be even more hard - it was out of the question.
"Ah, there you are!".
A female voice rang through the empty museum halls.
The sound it carried was smooth and feminine, with elegance.
And it evoked a cozy feeling, if that even makes sense.
There was also this slight raspy quality to it, yet the voice was sweet.
Pleasant to the ears.
You and the handsome stranger both turned around.
And the sight you were met with - oh how to even describe it?
You almost found yourself doubting that you were still standing in hell.
Because you could've sworn you were literally seeing an angel.
The woman that approached was like a divine painting.
Her figure was well-endowed, with long and thin legs.
And her face was sharp and flawless, looking as if made up by angels.
As if to add to her beauty - she had blonde long hair.
And that hair draped over her body all the way to the floor.
Like a veil made of gold.
She truly looked like a being straight out of heaven.
And you would dare to say that she rivaled all the depictions of Eve you've heard of.
Though there was one thing ruining the divine image of hers.
And those were her horns.
Wine red, long and curled horns decorating her head.
"Lili!".
The blond male next to you perked up.
He eagerly waved the woman over, a wide smile on his face.
His sharp teeth exposed.
His entire person appeared to have completely livened up.
Contrary to how solemn he was with you just a few moments back.
"My one and only! Where have you been?".
He asked the woman.
Or well, Lili - as he's addressed her.
And he gazed at her with pure adoration, excitement written all over his face.
And the demon stepped forward with a fond look.
"I could've sworn you were by my side the whole time before- poof- and you were gone!".
The handsome demon went on.
His pace of speech was fast and energized.
And he was almost jumbling his words together in the process.
And with his gesticulation coming on strong, the male had a truly disorganized look to him.
He looked as if his thoughts and emotions were all over the place.
As if they were going millions of miles per second.
It was quite a wholesome sight to see.
The previously seemingly well-composed man turning into a little ball of energy?
Just because he laid his eyes on the much taller demoness?
That was a truly cute and wholesome moment, a heartwarming moment even, if you'd dare to say.
"But that's not what happened, Luci."
The demoness responded to the shorter demon.
Or well, Luci, if we're going by how he was addressed.
And the female chuckled warmly.
She didn't seem bothered by the male's antics.
Instead, they seemed to be something she adored and held dear.
And the look in her lilac eyes held nothing but devotion.
Matching the one in the red eyes of 'Luci'.
Then, at her response, the male demon looked confused.
"It's not?".
He questioned, to which 'Lili' shook her head, chuckling again.
And then came the following answer:
"No, not quite. It was actually you who wandered off.".
'Luci' seemed taken aback by the reply,.
And pointing to himself as he questioned further:
"Me?".
'Lili' then nodded softly.
The fond look never leaving her face.
"Are you- are you sure? I don't remember it happening like that...".
The blond male then mused, his brows furrowing.
And gripping his chin in thought, he puckered up his lips.
He seemed genuinely confused about the whole thing.
Which made him look quite silly.
Though you yourself, personally, found the look quite cute.
And 'Lili' probably shared your view on that matter.
Because she chuckled melodiously.
Which was a truly heavenly sound to your ears.
And as she did, she seemed to almost melt over the male.
"And how do you remember it, dear?".
She questioned, and her lilac eyes held a comforting feeling.
Like that one of summer evening.
When it's getting dark and everything is cooling down.
Getting to breathe and rest.
With a campfire nearby, a good chilly drink in hand.
And the sound of crickets in the background.
A warm, yet still cooling feeling.
"Well, first we were holding hands..."
'Luci' began to explain to his female companion.
And as if on cue, his strong gesticulation began anew.
And with that, he followed through with:
"Then we stopped by those Lust jewels - y'know, those Asmodeus used to wear before eventually donating them here,".
Then he paused for a moment.
He seemed to be trying to remember the rest of the details.
"Then, I noticed the signs about the new expositions...".
He added after a moment of silence.
A pause, and then eyes seemed to sparkle.
Almost as if he's made some sort of accomplishment.
He most likely managed to remember more details of what's happened.
At least, that's what you've guessed.
"Oh, yeah!".
The handsome male chirped eagerly.
And he almost jumped on his spot as he went ahead to fill in the rest of what's happened.
At least according to him:
"And then I go: Look, Lili! The sign here says the turquoise rose is on the upper floor! Come!".
He said, imitating, what you assumed, were his previous actions and words.
"And I rushed upstairs while leaving you by the Lust jewels.".
The demon finished casually as he smiled.
He seemed so proud of himself for remembering everything.
But then, his yellow eyes widened, everything apparently sinking in.
"Oohh, yeah... It really was me who wandered off,".
He muttered as an embarrassed and disappointed look took over his features.
"You were right, yeah...".
'Luci' admitted, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly all while 'Lili' had a knowing look.
It was that smug 'I told you so' look, but without the ill-will in it.
Instead the look held a playful feel.
A playful feel like that of a simple lovey-dovey banter.
A lovey-dovey banter with no hard feelings.
"Oh, Lili- my love!".
The handsome male called dramatically.
And he took ahold of the taller demoness' hands, squeezing them.
"I have committed such shameful act! Can you ever forgive me, my queen?".
He asked in such a over exaggerated, over dramatic voice.
And he looked a few seconds away from dropping to his knees.
Possibly to loudly and unnecessarily plead for forgiveness.
But that wasn't all yet, because 'Luci' added to the scene.
'Luci' began planting soft kisses onto the female's hands.
Yeah, that wasn't really a scene you'd care to watch.
Talk about uncomfortable.
You just had to look away from the two.
And not only was the scene unpleasant to witness.
But you also didn't want to be seen as some kind of perverted freak.
Like, being caught watching this sort of scene?
Yeah, that wasn't on your bucket list.
And so, you directed your focus back on the turquoise rose.
You wanted to give the two the privacy they probably should have.
And surprisingly, it wasn't as hard to tune the two out.
If you focused on the little bloom hard enough, that is.
You were only brought back to the conversation when you heard yourself being mentioned.
"And who's your friend, Lulu?".
The blonde female asked as her gaze met yours.
Her lilac eyes flashed red for a moment and the shade made you really uncomfortable.
It made you want to shrink, if not straight up run away.
And it was hard to tell if you felt that way because of how much you hated the colour red.
Or if it was because the woman's gaze was suddenly so strict and intimidating.
She seemed to be sizing you up, analyzing, judging...
But before you could muster up the courage to introduce yourself, 'Luci' did it for you.
Or well, he attempted to do so.
"Oh! That! That's...".
He eagerly attempted to introduce you.
Motioning to you with his hand as he grinned wide.
But when the blond male realized he actually didn't know your name, he let his hand drop back to his side.
And he chuckled awkwardly.
"I actually have no idea!".
He chuckled awkwardly, making you feel somewhat more nervous.
The way 'Lili' studied you left you quite uneasy and all tense, you were a little panicked.
Because suddenly a thought came to your head.
What if the woman could see you as some sort of homewrecker?
As someone trying to get with the male she so obviously dated?
That thought caused a tight feeling in your chest.
You found it hard to breathe.
And 'Luci' wasn't making it much better, despite not having any ill intent.
At least you hope he didn't.
"I guess we just got a little lost in our conversation,".
The male said.
He sounded much more casual with this statement.
And he fixed his hat a little.
"Isn't that right, my any-colour-but-red enthusiast?".
'Luci' addressed you with a grin.
Pulling you into the conversation without giving you any time to prepare.
Yeah, he wasn't making this situation any easier to handle.
And not having expected to be involved in the chat, your mind went all blank.
You had not anticipated that.
You were not prepared for this scenario.
So, the only reaction you could come up with was an awkward smile.
An awkward smile and a quick nod sent towards the tall female.
You really hoped that if 'Lili' was reading between the lines, she'd see it really was just an innocent interaction.
An innocent interaction and nothing more.
"Ah, I see... how sweet".
'Lili' hummed.
Unbothered, unphased - that's how you'd describe her.
She seemed so well-composed and proper in every way.
Even all of her movements were just so elegant and correct.
If that makes sense.
Natural - that's another words you'd use for the female.
All her responses seemed just so natural and right.
Especially compared to you.
Yeah, nothing about her said 'socially awkward', unlike how it was in your case.
And, as if that wasn't enough - she was also truly hard to read.
You couldn't tell what she was thinking, she was unpredictable.
She could be planning on tearing you apart and you'd never be able to tell!
And that made the demoness so much more intimidating to you.
Especially considering you had a feeling that, unlike you, she could read you perfectly.
That, or she could be potentially misreading you - that would definitely make things worse.
"And I take it your little chat must've been quite entertaining if you've managed to hold my dear husband's attention for so long,"
The blonde's lilac gaze bore into yours once again.
Her long eyelashes gave her eyes a thin and sharp look.
They were like two black, massive folded fans.
You couldn't tell if they were natural lashes or false ones.
Anyways, her words were followed by a smirk - one that made you feel unsafe.
Predatory, dangerous - that was the air her smirk carried.
And you felt like you were about to fall prey to the demoness.
Like you were going to meet the same fate a little mouse meets at the claws of a cat.
Even the female's pupils seemed to be cat-like slits, as if to only add to that feeling.
And you were so sure that 'Lili' would've pounced on you.
If only 'Luci' didn't chime in.
"Hey! My attention span isn't so bad!".
The male demon called, hands on his hips as he looked quite offended.
Yet, he smiled playfully afterwards.
So, it was safe to assume that he wasn't truly as insulted as it may have seemed.
And another argument for that claim would be the man's next actions.
For his body took a much more relaxed stance, and he added:
"But yeah, yeah, it was a good chat,".
And he then simply fixed his hat a little as it previously nearly slipped off his head when he so intensely perked up at his wife's little jab at his person.
But shortly just after fixing his hat, the demon perked up again.
Almost sending his hat flying off his head once more.
"because-".
'Luci' jumped up.
He seemed to have recalled the exact context of the chat he had with you a few moments ago.
And suddenly, he no longer looked relaxed or casual.
Instead, in an blink of an eye, his calm demeanor switched up for a much more energetic one.
He acted like a little ball of energy once again.
"you won't believe it, Lili- but this little imp actually shares our passion!".
The blond male said with a wide grin.
And he started gesticulating strongly again.
Almost as if he was practitioning pantomime.
He seemed just so eager to share this with his female companion.
And he spoke so fast and excitedly that he almost struggled to breathe.
But after a long and deep breath, 'Luci' managed to sputter out the rest:
"They also think hell could use more colours! Isn't that- isn't that awesome, Lili??".
And at the mention of your desire to see more colours in hell 'Lili's eyes seemed to spark with interest.
"Oh, you don't say.".
She mused.
Her thin fingers grazed her face for a second, her eyebrows raising up a little.
And her expression softened.
Then, another light smirk appeared on her face.
But imposing isn't a word you'd call that smirk she wore.
This certain smirk was different than the previous ones.
This one seemed much safer, and almost friendly.
And 'Lili' had something more lively about her as she said:
"Well then, it seems we'll get along just perfect,".
And with those words, the blonde demoness took a step towards you.
"May I ask for your name? I'm sure that'd be much preferable than being referred to as any-colour-but-red enthusiast.".
The female told you with a short, yet warm chuckle.
And a hand casually rested on her curvy side.
Most of the intimidating demeanor she previously had seemed gone.
She seemed to have eased up.
Which gave her a more approachable feel.
And thanks to that, you yourself felt much more at ease being in the woman's presence.
So, it wasn't as difficult to muster up the courage to speak as it was before.
"Oh- y-yeah... I'd much rather be called by my name, yeah, that'd be much better, totally,".
You chuckled awkwardly.
And nodding your head with a light smile, you rubbed at the back of your neck.
You were rambling a little too.
You still felt a bit of unease.
But that was to be expected.
Considering you've not had this much of genuine social interaction in years.
But, 'Lili' didn't seem to mind.
She just looked at you with almost a motherly, compassionate look.
And she waited for you to introduce yourself with patience.
"Oh- damn- I'm rambling again, sorry,".
You said nervously after a short pause when you were processing your own actions.
And you almost started rambling anew before you caught yourself going that direction.
And you stopped yourself.
You needed to compose yourself.
You didn't want to drive her away by your social incompetence.
"Ahem, anyways, yeah, my name... I'm (Y/N),".
You finally introduced yourself.
And proud of your accomplishment, your inner self did a little victory dance.
Then, remembering how social interactions work, you added in:
"It's really a pleasure to meet you.".
You nodded with a smile before perking up and quickly saying:
"Ah- erm- both of you,".
And you sent a timid smile towards 'Luci', wanting to acknowledge him as well.
You didn't want for him to feel left out.
Your gesture seemed to be appreciated as the blond male smiled right back.
But instead of 'Luci' speaking up, it was his wife to follow though with the conversation.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well.".
'Lili's voice pulled your gaze right back at her figure.
And your full focus was on her once again.
"Truly it is, (Y/N).".
The demoness added in, nodding her head as if to confirm her statement.
After that, another smile formed on her lips, and she had this slightly amused look to her.
"Now, normally I would suppose that there's no introduction needed on our part,".
She mused, a hand resting on her chest while she leaned over a little, towering over you.
Her tall frame casted a bit of a shadow over you, making you feel much smaller than you actually were.
And she got so close that you could smell her expensive perfume.
But that was the least thing you needed to focus on.
You needed to listen to her words - which you forced yourself to do.
"but judging by this entire interaction, I would say you have absolutely no idea who we are,".
You heard 'Lili' say as your focus was back on the context of her words.
And her entire person was once again imposing as she finished her sentence.
She was wearing a light, entertained grin - one that exposed her pearly white fangs.
And despite her grin being quite pronounced, it did not take off her elegance.
If anything, it only made her more heavenly gorgeous.
And showing those pointed teeth some more, she asked:
"Am I correct in that assumption?".
With that question, she raised an eyebrow.
Her expression wasn't confused as one might have assumed, though.
No, the demoness seemed to already know your answer.
And that knowing look she wore only further confirmed that claim.
Perhaps you were right when you assumed 'Lili' could easily read you.
That realization alone made your eyes widen, and you sputtered:
"Oh- y-yeah- that would be right.".
You nodded your head with an awkward smile, feeling both nervous and embarrassed.
And your nervousness was, of course, affecting you, as you rambled a little just like you previously did:
"Yeah, I have no idea who you two are... I don't do politics and famous people... buuuut, you're... probably someone... important...?".
At your guess, both 'Lili' and 'Luci' chuckled, and they exchanged a glance.
"Oh dear, you have no idea,".
The blonde demoness stated as another soft chuckle left her lips.
Then she covered her lips with her fingers for a few seconds, looking amused.
And the way 'Lili' and 'Luci' were gazing at you left you unable to do anything other than smile awkwardly.
Their gazes were hard to describe, but you felt preyed upon.
Just like you previously felt with the women at the start.
Except it felt a bit different in a way you couldn't quite describe.
Not to mention that this time 'Luci' was a part of it.
The male demon's even gotten closer to you just like his wife did a while ago.
"They're precious, aren't they, Lili?".
'Luci' suggested as he stepped forward.
His gaze was focused on you, and he was giving a sharp toothed grin.
A grin that called for you - begged you - to read between the lines.
But that could be just your imp nature speaking, right?
After all, imps were used to being the prey to other demons.
So it made sense for you to be alert around other demon species, right?
Well, even then, the answer 'Lili' gave to 'Luci's question didn't help you feel safer.
"Quite so, Luci,".
'Lili' mused as her gaze trailed over your whole person.
She was looking you up and down with predatory eyes - like a snake looking at a little mouse.
Her gaze was unnerving, and the female didn't seem to bother with doing that action subtly either.
As if she felt no shame in doing so.
Almost as if she wanted for you to be aware of what she was doing.
And as if that wasn't alarming enough, 'Lili's gaze then trailed off towards 'Luci'.
The two looked at each other, exchanging a certain gaze.
You couldn't tell what kind of gaze it was exactly, but it made you feel so much more preyed upon.
It appeared as if the two were wordlessly agreeing on something, plotting even.
And you didn't like that one bit.
But before you could even think to perhaps run off, the couple directed their attention back at you.
"Well, dear (Y/N)... It seems an introduction is in order,".
'Lili' then told you in a smooth voice as she once agai leaned over you in one elegant movement.
Meanwhile 'Luci' stood aside, watching the further interaction with an eager grin.
"Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Lilith,".
The blonde demoness introduced herself, a hand on her chest.
Then, she motioned to the male beside her with her hand.
And the demon in question stepped forward, placing his hand into the female's palm.
"And this is my husband, Lucifer.".
Lilith introduced the male, making you pause.
You needed a moment to do a quick double take on that information.
But before you could even questioned anything, the mentioned male spoke:
"Lucifer Morningstar. It's a pleasure to officially meet you, (Y/N).".
And with those words, the world suddenly seemed to stop and freeze in time.
Your mouth and throat went completely dry, and your pulse seemed to halt.
The room seemed to begin to spin, your body breaking into cold sweat.
And all you could hear was loud and painful ringing in your ears.
This couldn't be real.
"W-wait...".
You attempted to speak, your eyes wide.
You wanted to say something - anything!
But your brain seemed to have crashed and gone blank.
You were unable to formulate a single simple sentence.
You were at loss for words.
And at loss for breath too it seemed.
Your throat was all closed up, and all you could give was a pathetic little gasp for air.
"Oh? Oh? What is it, dear?"
Lucifer looked entertained - and it was the same for Lilith.
The pair watched you do a bit of your mental gymnastics with amused gazes.
Both were grinning.
Seemingly finding some kind of joy in you finally realizing just who you were dealing with.
"Do those names... I don't know... maybe ring a bell?".
Lucifer asked you in a sweet and seemingly well-meaning, yet still condescending voice.
He sounded playful, as if this was just some kind of a game.
But when the demon got no response from you, he grinned wide and turned to his wife:
"Why, Lili, I have a feeling those names do ring a bell to them,".
And Lilith, seemingly equally as amused, nodded along:
"Yes, it certainly seems like it, Lulu,".
You had absolutely no idea as to what to do in this situation.
Your brain was way too overloaded to figure out a possible solution for this.
Thinking was out of the question, so was talking yourself out of this situation.
You were so fucked.
And so, acting on default, you dropped to your knees, hands in a praying position, attempting to ask for forgiveness.
You didn't dare look at the two, your eyes being directed to the ground as your entire body trembled.
And you pitifully tried to verbally ask for forgiveness of the pair too.
But all you could force out were just pathetic little noises and sputters of nonsense.
"Now, that's quite a bit of an extreme reaction, don't you think?".
Lucifer mused all so casually, sounding unbothered by the display.
And Lilith matched the casual, unphased voice tone, saying:
"Come now, get off the floor, dear. The ground is way too dirty for you to be sprawling all over it like that,".
After that, Lucifer chimed in again, following through with:
"Yeah, and you might want to wipe off those tears as well, they're a bit too dramatic,".
Their words and reaction confused you so, and made you pause.
You didn't know what was going on - you've not expected this.
They were supposed to tear you apart, weren't they?
Because you didn't recognize them and talked to them so casually, right?
Well, not even Lucifer's next words made that any clearer.
In fact, you actually ended up feeling even more confused then.
"And I gotta ask: is your memory not working well?".
Lucifer asked, and a hint of disappointment lingered in the air.
You didn't understand his words, or his voice tone.
Both only made more questions arise.
And you cautiously looked up to him,
"wha- what?".
You muttered, voice barely loud enough to be heard.
You felt almost afraid to question what Lucifer's said.
You just can't help yourself but be fearful of the male.
Even if he's been nothing but pleasant to you the whole time.
But, could anyone even really blame you for your unease and fear?
He was the literal Devil, and you've treated him like an equal.
There was no way that Lucifer wasn't insulted or upset over this.
"I mean, I told you I'm not one of those royals who lose it if one doesn't recognize them, no?".
Well, it turned out your assumptions were all wrong.
These words that Lucifer's said have proven you wrong.
He didn't seem upset whatsoever, and his words confirmed that.
Sure, he sounded just a little disappointed with you in a way.
But he was not upset, which definitely was a relief.
However, you still had yet to properly calm down and relax.
"Y-yeah... you did...".
Was all you've managed to clumsily force out.
And your voice tone sounded just a little surprised.
That was because you've experienced a bit of a realization.
Truth be told, you've completely forgotten about your previous conversation.
You've forgotten just what kind of a royal Lucifer told you he was.
And when you remembered the male's previous words, your eyes widened a little.
Yet, your mind didn't feel any clearer, you still felt the same.
So, saying anything more was a task you could not achieve.
But, the devil went on with the conversation anyways.
"Then what's up with that reaction?".
He questioned you, an eyebrow raised.
He sounded almost judgemental at that certain moment.
He even looked the part - an unimpressed gaze, a hand on his hip.
Yet, somehow, there was still no feeling of ill-will to him.
Still, it wasn't any easier for you to think of what to say.
"I- I... well... y-you see...".
You clumsily attempted to explain yourself.
But a weak little mutter was all that you could give.
You couldn't say anything more, your brain felt too empty.
Everything that's happened just left you with a clouded mind.
And your thoughts and emotions were all over the place.
So, a soft mutter and a distressed whimper was the best you could do.
But Lucifer didn't seem to mind that, not even in the slightest.
"Nah, I'm just pulling your leg!".
He called with a hearty chuckle.
And he dismissively waved his hand as he added:
"I totally get the whole dropping to your knees thing!".
"I mean, we're literally the rulers of hell, so it makes complete sense for you to act this way,".
The blonde male went on and on.
He seemed to be having a good laugh at all of this.
And he gesticulated and spoke all enthusiastically.
But you didn't really catch any of what was being said.
Your brain was way too overloaded to be able to do so.
And the longer Lucifer spoke, the worse you began to feel.
Much to your relief though, Lilith finally chimed in once again.
"Luci, I think you're completely overwhelming the poor thing,".
The queen of hell noted.
She sounded a little amused just like the male was.
Yet, there was a clear hint of concern in the way she spoke.
"Oh, am I?".
The king of hell paused.
Finally, he took a moment to take in your state.
And when he did, he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck and mused:
"Yeah... I think I am,".
After Lucifer noted that, Lilith focused and spoke directly to you.
"We apologize, (Y/N).".
She started in a gentle tone.
And her expression was not as amused anymore.
At that certain moment, she seemed almost apologetic.
But not too much.
"It's just that it's not often someone doesn't recognize us, and we couldn't help ourselves,".
The demoness explained.
And you could've sworn her eyes held genuine concern in them.
Although her overall stance didn't really change much.
The tall blonde was still perfectly well-composed.
And she still appeared mostly unphased.
Then she finished her speech with:
"all was meant in good fun,".
At that final explanation, you paused.
Your racing thoughts came to a full stop.
And processing Lilith's words, you said cautiously:
"S- so we're... all good?".
Your words came out slow and soft.
And you were careful with your wording too.
You were kind of testing the waters in a sense.
The two rulers of hell kept surprising you.
They were continuously proving to not be a threat to you.
Yet one could never be fully sure - especially not in Hell.
And especially not as mere little imp.
Your question was met with a warm smile from Lilith.
And she nodded to your words, confirming them.
"Yes, we're all good".
She confirmed.
Relief washed over you then.
And you made sure to voice that.
"Oh- holy shi- I'm so relieved!".
You breathed.
And only then did you get off the ground.
"Fuuuuck,".
You gave a breathy chuckle.
And you wiped some metaphorical sweat off your forehead.
You felt on cloud nine - as if you've escaped death.
So, you couldn't really control your vocabulary at the moment.
Not like it mattered anyways.
"For- for a moment I thought-".
You stumbled over your words a little.
This entire thing felt just so unreal.
You were overwhelmed again.
But this time not exactly overwhelmed in a bad way.
"For a moment I thought it'd be off with my head or something!".
You admitted.
And you gripped your head.
You needed a moment to fully process everything.
"Whaaat? No! No, we'd never do that!".
Lucifer called, pulling your focus back to himself and his wife.
He looked and sounded astounded.
As if not grasping just where you got that idea from.
But then he paused, and he gripped his chin in thought.
"I mean, we probably did that at some point, centuries and centuries ago...".
He thought out loud.
And that made your eyes widen a little.
You couldn't tell of he was just kidding around again or not.
And you almost felt your unease returning.
But then came the following exchange.
"Or did that happen only in a dream...?".
The Devil mused, confused and uncertain.
To which Lilith shushed him gently yet disapprovingly:
"Lulu, you're not helping,".
That was all she said.
She didn't deny or confirm anything.
And Lucifer perked up just then.
"Oh- yeah, right... that was a little beside the point I was trying to make...".
Lucifer admitted awkwardly.
He even gave a slight apologetic look for a quick moment.
But that expression of his was pretty much short lived.
Since then he relaxed and offered a friendly smile.
"Sorry, dear (Y/N), I tend to trail off sometimes.".
He told you, voice calm and pleasant.
And his words were even accompanied by a low chuckle.
"I can confirm that,".
Lilith voiced in, her tone just as pleasant, as well as humorous.
The mood in the room suddenly felt much better.
It felt easier to just be in the moment.
Lilith's little jab at Lucifer's expense made the male give a playful glare.
And to that, the demoness offered a playful smirk back.
Then, the blond male spoke again.
"Anyhow, I think we should properly apologize for how we...".
Lucifer trailed off.
Seemingly trying to find the right term to use.
"had fun at your expense?".
Lilith filled the rest in.
Helping her lover name what they did correctly.
And the male nodded in agreement:
"Yeah... that'd be the word,".
Then, Lucifer added:
"So, what can we do to apologize?".
The words of the pair had you astonished.
After all, they did give you a verbal apology already.
So, you'd just assume the situation was over.
It wasn't like you wanted anything more from them anyways.
After all, getting an apology out of someone as an imp was near to impossible.
And having someone want to do a selfless act to undo their wrongdoing?
That was twice as impossible.
No one really cared for imps.
Nor did they really see them as equals.
And yet, here were the two highest ranking demons in all of hell.
Both of them treating you fair and with respect.
You were so beneath them.
Yet they treated you more kindly than your own kin.
And maybe even more kindly than you treated yourself.
"Oh- no, no, that's completely alright!".
You dismissed the pair's offer.
You really weren't used to such treatment.
And you almost felt bad if you were to accept.
"No real harm was done! All's good!".
You went on.
You really didn't want for these two to burden themselves for your sake.
Honestly, it felt a little wrong.
However, your dismissiveness got matched.
Lilith and Lucifer weren't accepting of you waving it all off.
"No, no, we insist!".
Lucifer cut your efforts off.
And he matched your own voice tone.
Dismissive and insistent, and also a bit loud.
"Truly, we insist.".
Lilith nodded along, not letting you speak.
"After all, words are just so cheap - actions speak much louder".
She persuaded some more.
And the Devil was there to her aid, saying:
"So, even if we shall do just a simple act like buying you coffee... We insist,".
Of course, your first instinct was to keep declining.
Yet, something in you had you pause and think.
This was an opportunity like no other.
For you seemed to get along well with the two so far.
And the pair seemed to understand you like no one else.
After all, the two shared your view on Pride needing more colour.
Who knew if you didn't have more things in common?
And perhaps this was the moment you've always been waiting for.
Did you really want to sabotage yourself and throw it all away?
The answer was no.
No, you didn't.
And so, with a bit of hesitation, you stated:
"I guess... that coffee does sound good?".
And with your sheepish smile and answer the deal was sealed.
Because the king and queen both grinned.
"Good, I'm sure we'll have a lot to talk about,".
Lilith hummed.
She sounded pleased.
"And we'll start with why Pride needs more colour".
Lucifer added in.
And he gave a playful wink.
Then, his red eyes met yours for a moment.
And the Devil smiled at you before calling eagerly:
"Off to a cafe we go!".
And with that, the male rushed towards the museum exit.
He seemed to completely forget about you and Lilith.
"You'll get used to it,".
Lilith told you with a smile.
And as her lilac gaze met yours, her eyes flashed red again.
But this time her red eyes didn't intimidate you.
You two then went ahead to follow Lucifer.
And on your way out of the museum, you had just one thought.
That being:
That now you couldn't really hate the colour of red as much as you used to.

Hello! ♡
I know we've never interacted before, but I just want to say that I love your work (and your ships ♡) and with the third tsum event being on EN, it got me thinking...
What do you think a Rollo tsum and a Fellow/Ernesto tsum would be like? ♡ (I was curious to know your thoughts since I know you have a selfship with Rollo and an OC x Canon with Fellow/Ernesto ♡)
Thank you! ♡
OMG HI SHEEP!!! SIUDHSD TYSMMM!!!
I have read some of your fics before (...particularly the Azul ones...) and ohhh my good they had me giggling like a schoolboy teehee. You're an excellent writer <3 I now checked and I THOUGHT I was following you......but no I forgot...gonna fix that now ❤️
I've actually been meaning to interact with you for a while ngl...but I've been shy about it heh 👉👈... so I really appreciate you coming into my inbox! If you'd like it I'd be very happy to interact more!
*SLAMS TABLE* and now...Rollo and Fox man Tsums...
Firstly, I'm ridiculously happy you're asking me that because my goal is to be the Twst Halloween Characters Expert™/silly and so far these two have become some of my top faves in the whole game (so scared to finish the newest Halloween event on JP...Skully is gonna get his hands on me too...). AHEM anyways without further ado, here's what I personally think <3
Dividers
Tsum!Rollo:
🔔 I imagine tsum!Rollo is, obviously, similar to OG Rollo. He has this dignified but strict aura to him, and you'll probably feel a little anxious around him, as if he's about to scold you for breathing wrong. 🔔 He is very particular about how clean his surroundings are, and will unpromptedly start tidying/cleaning any room he deems that needs it. He has a fondness for flowers and will check any he may find, even attending to them! 🔔 He seems like he's very well-behaved...however, he also has a big distaste for Magic and its users, particularly Malleus. If he gets angry, he will not hesitate to bonk on people's heads as "punishment" for their careless behaviour (or just... for annoying him). He's actually much more emotional than he seems, similar to his OG counterpart. 🔔 OG Rollo initially did not want to interact with tsum!Rollo, he found him ridiculous and even denied their resemblance. But after seeing tsum!Rollo's behaviour, and how similar they really are, he grew to like him and enjoy his company (mainly because he found someone who finally understands him). I imagine they had a proper farewell when the time to depart came, with big words and all (Rollo can be quite dramatic, in his own way <3). 🔔 (bonus) He pretty much only tolerates the Prefect being around him (......and me eheheh/silly) simply because of their lack of magic and since OG Rollo seemed to tolerate the Prefect fairly well in GlosMas.
Tsum!Fellow:
🦊 Tsum!Fellow would be as expected: Theatrical, enthusiastic, the kinda friendly guy to get real close to you with a big (hypothetical) smile on his face...Until you realise your wallet is missing. Oh, it seems a tiny cat tsum took it while tsum!Fellow distracted you! 🦊 Yep, tsum!Fellow comes with an extra tsum!Gidel! It seems these two can never be separated... hm, reminds me of another striking duo on campus. How curious. 🦊 Tsum!Gidel pretty much just follows tsum!Fellow around, sometimes even resting on top of his head if he's unable to keep up due to his much smaller size. Tsum!Fellow is quite the swindler, after all, you never know when a new opportunity for some cash may come! 🦊 Despite his small and stubby hands, tsum!Fellow is impressively good at sewing like his OG counterpart! He fixed up a hole in OG Gidel's clothes before OG Fellow could even grab a needle and thread! What a useful little fellow, right? (also no one knows how tsum!Gidel is able to consistently hold his hammer...) 🦊 He is...not quite fond of the students. Truthfully, they annoy him to hell and back! Especially those rich ones that act as if they don't have a care in the world...*looks at Kalim.* So unlike OG Fellow, who can mask his distaste fairly well, tsum!Fellow will not hesitate to attack anyone who starts pissing him off. 🦊 After the shock wore off, OG Fellow would see his and Gidel's tsums as one thing: an opportunity! I mean, he once tried to pass off Gidel as a stringless puppet, and now he has two toys that are ACTUALLY alive! Even better, they can dance and put on a show like he and Gidel do, talk about damn luck! And his tsum seemed to heavily agree with him... sly foxes. 🦊 But uh, it went horribly once the tsums started to get annoyed by the crowd and started attacking people <3 (by that I mean tsum!Gidel bonking on everyone as tsum!Fellow ordered him around). 🦊 Fellow realised one thing then: his tsum is similar to him not in just appearance and mannerisms, not he's too similar...including all the bitterness he carries inside of him everywhere... Well, that makes them useless. And not only that, but they ruined his whole bit that could have gone so well! Hasta la vista then, go back to where you came from! Go ruin your own cons, not his!!

Let's Talk About Hazbin Hotel
Just a casual review. Hazbin Hotel's been coming up on my Tumblr dash a lot, and there's been some controversy around it. So I decided to give it a try.
(Note: I haven't engaged with anything that came out before its Amazon Prime debut)
To summarize: it's pretty okay. The animation is great and the songs are bangers. The plot is pretty solid; there are some hiccups but in only eight episodes it does pretty well in world building.
Though I guess that's where we have our first problem. Eight 23 minute episodes doesn't mean a lot of time for our characters to be fleshed out. Sure Angel Dust, Husk, Sir Pentious, Alastor, and even Lucifer get their moments. And don't get me wrong, that's great. But I feel a lot of that could have been geared towards our main characters: Charlie and Vaggie.
Let me just say, I love Charlie and I think she's well-written for the most part. She's flawed, but wants the best for the people around her. And that's great. That being said, it doesn't feel like we've gotten a real deep dive into who she is. What gave her the idea to redeem sinners in the first place? How has she interacted with the people of hell prior to the hotel? We know she helped Vaggie when she was injured, did that come before or after her idea for the hotel?
(If any of this is answered in the pilot, I'm sorry. But there's a good chance new fans like myself didn't watch the pilot either)
The most introspection we get into her character are Husk's offhand comment about her bleeding heart who focuses on others' problems instead of her own and Rosie mentioning her "moxie." And those things are being told to us, not shown to us. It's hard to view her as complex, though I am holding out hope that we'll get more into her in the next season especially with Lilith's inevitable return. I'm eager to see her grow more as a leader.
(I also hope they explore her temper. For me, that's when she's at her most dynamic. Feminine rage ftw)
Now, onto Vaggie.
I'm sorry, but I really can't get into her character at all. She's mean and untrusting and... that's it? Unlike Charlie she doesn't seem to have any defining character traits. No goals or aspirations that don't have to do with Charlie's. And even then, she doesn't display a lot of confidence in her, consistently doubting Charlie's input and even outright refusing that some of the patrons can change. It's like she doesn't actually believe that sinners can be redeemed and only puts effort into the hotel at all for Charlie.
(This isn't a problem with Vaggie per se, but her encouraging Charlie to confront Valentino felt so off to me. She's supposed to be more levelheaded and rational than Charlie, so wouldn't she know that Charlie doesn't really hold that much power? Her and Lucifer are basically figureheads, the Overlords are the ones that really run Hell. Considering she's so distrustful of Alastor, Vaggie would know that right? So why push Charlie into being assertive against one?)
And this is a direct contradiction to what is being told to us about her character. She, as an exterminator, showed mercy to a sinner and paid the price for it. If she believed that the child she spared was worth sparing, she should have some optimism that sinners deserve a second chance. But outside of hyping Charlie up, that's never shown to us.
Even in Scrambled Eggs- an episode that was centered around her- doesn't tell us much about her. Just that she's a semi-competent fighter who learned trust the "hard way." But nothing about her growing closer to the residents- despite being entrusted to teach them trust- just a song about her love and devotion to Charlie.
And I know that this is supposed to be her parallel to Carmilla and that the duet sets up their meeting later. But Vaggie's goals being so focused on Charlie and not the hotel or the residents means that there's such a disconnect here. Carmilla is singing for her daughters (and even Zestial), but it's also for all of Hell. She wants to keep them out of unnecessary war. Her goal has different facets to it while Vaggie's is extremely one-way.
To put it simply: Vaggie is boring.
And it's because of these things that I really can't get into Chaggie. It's... Okay. I guess. There's so little focus on it that outside of the reveal that Vaggie's an angel, it doesn't hold a lot of relevance throughout the show, good or bad. They could have been best friends and nothing would have changed.
If I'm being completely honest, Charlie has more interesting relationships with everyone else: Alastor, Lucifer, Angel, and even Emily who wasn't even on screen with her for that long.
(Unapologetically a RoyalHalo shipper. Also an Emily stan)
Speaking of Emily, I love what they're setting her up for. It seems like she'll either Fall like Lucifer and join Charlie in Hell or take over Heaven from Sera and work with Charlie to bring a better system. Either way, I'm excited for what they'll do with her.
Although I have to say, even though I love You Didn't Know, I do have some things to say about it and the whole trial scene.
As I said, the Hazbin Hotel songs are good. There's no denying that. But a few of them- like YDK- kind of hinder the plot. There's so much going on in this scene- so many important revelations- that it being a song I feel undercuts that. Like Emily finding out about Extermination Day and confronting Sera about it could have used a lot more attention. Her and Charlie aligning themselves together, while freaking amazing to listen to, kind of comes out of nowhere. Even- especially- Vaggie being revealed as an angel to Charlie is a lot less intense being sung through a song.
(It still slaps though)
But a lot of songs also have the opposite effect. More Than Anything, Poison, and Loser Baby convey exactly what they're trying to. You feel the emotion and flaws of these characters, you feel the pure connection/strife.
(Songs like Hell's Greatest Dad and Respectless are for fun and do help move the story along. They also give us a glimpse into the characters. I could do without some of them, especially because that time could be better spent, but they're still fun to listen to and watch. Respectless is so fucking good man)
I'm excited to see more of Lilith and her relationships with Charlie and Lucifer. It's implied during MTA that she was the one fostering the distance between Lucifer and Charlie. I wonder if that was intentional or just through Charlie's/Lucifer's POV. Also, her being gone at the same time Alastor was is definitely hinting at her being the one who has him on a leash.
Sir Pentious in heaven🥹 I don't have a lot to say about it, it just made me happy
All in all... Pretty good. Enough to keep me engaged. Looking forward to the next season👍🏾

Between Akane, Kana, and Ruby, which do you think is the best written, and has more depth outside of their relationship/crush on Aqua? The argument I’ve been seeing most often from diehard fans of any of the three girls is that the other two (or one of the other two) don’t have any depth beyond liking Aqua. Been seeing this especially from people who hate Kana, but also from Akane haters and Ruby haters
Anon I truly believe you sent this with nothing but good faith in your heart but never before have I received an ask that looked more like the internet equivalent of someone handing me a baseball bat and pointing me in the direction of a hornet's nest. AND BROTHER, I'M ABOUT TO START SWINGING!!!!
In order from best to worst I'd say right now, it goes Kana -> Akane -> Ruby. If you'd asked me this question in a pre-123 world I probably would've said it's Ruby -> Kana -> Akane but… well i'll be getting into what existing in a post-123 world has done for ruby's character soon enough anyway lol.
I fully expect to be hit with accusations of bias in this regard both because I just have generally always liked Kana and fandom lately has been so fucking weird about her but the reason I like Kana is because I think she's the most consistent and fleshed out beyond the scope of her relationship with Aqua. Like, to be clear, all the girls definitely revolve around him way more than they should - to a degree, this is just kind of the nature of the beast in a story like OnK where a lot of characters' foothold into the story are their personal relationship with the protag. But so much of their screentime and story relevance is eaten up by the romance subplots that it ends up coming at the expense of giving the viewer a strong sense of who they are outside those relationships.
This is the trap I think Akane falls into, to the detriment of her character writing. On paper, she's a super interesting character with a lot of potential to add to the story's themes and overall commentary but her actual role in the story and the context within which she's allowed relevance is purely just Being Aqua's Love Interest. Hell, her foothold into the cast period is just that she and Aqua are fake dating and Akane is catching both feelings and a sense of indebted gratitude towards him, so she's totally down to match his freak about it. There's a reason I think Tokyo Blade is her best post-LoveNow arc and it's because while the developing relationship between her and Aqua is an important part of the story, it's absolutely not Akane's focus when compared to everything else she's got going on with Kana. After this arc, though, she's given basically zero plotlines or things to do that aren't wholly predicated on Being Aqua's GF and the interesting underlying issues suggested to exist in her character go largely ignored in favor of her serving Aqua's story. She doesn't really have any relationships with the other cast members outside of Kana and even that ends up devolving into love triangle slop. The result is that, based purely on what exists in the text of the story, Akane is isolated from any other character that she could interact with to create a sense that she has a life and interior world unrelated to Aqua.
This is also why I say Ruby is the worst hit by the Love Triangle Brainrot Disease out of the three heroines because she had an interesting, lively character with a full world and social life that had nothing to do with Aqua only for 123 to come along and infect her with terminal love interest brainrot. Honestly, Ruby being Like This with Aqua right now is probably the biggest singular issue with OnK at the moment, because it means one of the series' primary protagonist is stuck in this malformed relationship cul-de-sac where the feelings we've spent the entire series building up and fleshing out have somehow simultaneously taken over her entire character at the expense of all her other ongoing plotlines while also going entirely unaddressed by the narrative. 123 essentially wiped Ruby's slate clean of anything that wasn't the AquRuby stuff and then proceeded to treat it like a massive joke for literally 20 entire chapters - once again, at the expense of what was a genuinely really necessary arc for her. Ruby's so-called 'revenge' peters out with a wet fart because all the moments leading up to it that should have given any of it weight are offscreened in favour of yet another panel of Ruby splooging over her brother. But despite this being like the one singular thing her character has going on right now, Akasaka is simply refusing to address the massive incest elephant in the room, which means that both Ruby as a character and the story as a whole are robbed of opportunities to develop and be developed by an exploration of how that massive taboo intersects with and affects… literally anything! Since 123, we've gotten exactly one chapter that bothered to even pretend it was taking Ruby's feelings seriously but despite it ending on perhaps one of The Biggest Status Quo Shifts in the whole series… it too has gone entirely unaddressed!!!
Both Akane and Ruby are trapped in this bog of having their entire characters reduced to revolving round Aqua while being disallowed from meaningful development that would probably advance or give closure to that relationship. Akane… sort of gets this with her whole "i'm his mom now btw kana you should suck him silly" thing and her big dramatic haircut but even then, she's still orbiting Aqua and his revenge quest because apparently she has nothing better to do. Ruby, meanwhile, is in this baffling place where the story is having to twist itself into so many pretzels to avoid addressing whatever the hell is going on with her and Aqua before the Akasaka ordained Most Dramatic Moment that she is not getting any moment-to-moment development that might even risk letting her address or untangle any of this stuff. She and Aqua are not allowed to have any direct on-screen interactions and even when they did in 157, it just felt plastic and artificial and honestly kind of forced because of that failure to so much as acknowledge UH, HEY, REMEMBER WHEN RUBY STUCK HER TONGUE DOWN AQUA'S THROAT?
anyway. ALL THAT UP ^ THERE ^ is the reason I think Kana is the character who feels the most fleshed out beyond the bounds of her relationship with Aqua, ironically because of having comparatively less romantic focus and explicitly romantic interactions with him. Because less of her screentime is taken up by romance drama, it allows her to just breathe and exist as a person without her entire role in the story being Aqua's Love Interest. Her major moments of development are all built on Kana's own backstory and baggage which has basically nothing to do with Aqua and everything to do with her own insecurities, her history of abuse and abandonment, her obsession with acting and her fervent desperation to cling to the entertainment industry even when it has made clear that it doesn't want to make a place for her anymore, because so much of her personhood is warped by and tangled up in her childhood growing up in the public eye. That's not to say Aqua isn't involved in Kana's arc and he has an undeniably huge impact on her, but when you look at the ways his interactions with her push her story along it very much feels like Kana is just having her own arc that Aqua is serving and sometimes intersecting with rather than the other way around (as it feels for Akane and Ruby).
WITH ALL THAT SAID… it is just blatantly a bad faith reading of the series to the point of flat out lying about the contents of the story to say any of the three heroines have nothing going on outside their relationships with Aqua, even if we don't get as much focus on that stuff as I'd like. Ruby has her whole history as Sarina and the experiences of abuse, disempowerment and abandonment that have created the bullheaded high-energy Ruby of the present day. Akane struggles with low self-worth and tendencies towards creating narratives for herself and other people in her head that don't always survive impact with reality. Kana has… well, I rambled about all that up there lol. In fact, all three of the heroines are interested in Aqua for imo, at least hypothetically well developed reasons that have observable and tangible roots in their own histories and personal baggage and how Aqua, as a person, has impacted them.
The issue is not with the girls themselves or their feelings for Aqua. The issue is that Akasaka is a romcom guy flying by the seat of his pants trying to write a murder mystery character drama and it's just not what he's cut out for. So he falls back on what he knows - the romance stuff - regardless of how it does or does not cohere with the arcs of the characters involved or the wider story at large. He simply doesn't have the chops to balance both halves of the story at once and his clear interest in playing shipping drama for all its worth has ultimately compromised the integrity of the surrounding story, to the detriment of the characters involved.

On the Subject of Heaven: An Observation
I'm certain others have observed this before; I know it's not a new concept or anything, but just something that's been rolling around in my head for a bit. Heaven, which is supposed to be the place that all humans should aspire to go after death, the place which is supposed to be eternal paradise... we never see any humans there. Ever. In fact, the angels (besides Zira) are incredibly ignorant of human behavior- of anything having to do with humans, for that matter. They don't know how humans reproduce. They find ingesting "gross matter" to be, well, gross. Their imitations of humans are comically inaccurate ("thank you for my pornography!" "ello, ello, ello, what's all this then?"). I doubt any of them have interacted with humans beyond the occasional 'hey, we're like angels and stuff and we've come to bless you or whatever.' Like Job. They came only to tell him he'd passed God's test and that his kids were dead, and then stuck around for the "birth" of the kids. Humans are never acknowledged except in the most dismissive passing terms. So I have to ask... where are all the people?
Meanwhile, Hell is almost painfully aware of human behavior, at least to the extent that they understand their fears & nightmares. We see the "damned" on screen more than once, Crowley mentions them in s2e5 when confronting the demon hoarde, and even if their purpose in hell is to be tortured for eternity, they're still there. But heaven? Not a human in sight.
So. Hell understands humans, even if their only purpose is supposed to be torturing them, because they spend so much time around them. Heaven, on the other hand, dismisses humans as lesser creatures, to be looked down upon, even though their purpose was supposed to be looking after them & protecting them. We don't see humans in Heaven, so... where are they? Where is this supposed paradise? Where is the eternal bliss? If angels don't interact with humans in heaven, are they really fulfilling their intended purpose?
As far as I can tell, the only angel acting as a true guardian of humanity is Zira. And if he was truly going against God's Ineffable Plan™, don't you think he'd have been- smited? smote?- smitten by now? Or at least cast out/fallen? I mean, he was sure he'd be fallen for what happened with Job, but he wasn't. And then after Armageddon't, but nope. Not a single smiting blow from God. All of the other angels (except Gabriel-after-he-got-his-memories-back) are driven purely by getting to the endtimes so they can wage war on Hell, for the singular reason of winning because they are so convinced that they're the "good guys." Hell, too: torture humans, wage war with Heaven, win because they "lost" last time. Humanity is an afterthought to both.
But not Zira & Crowley. They love humanity. So much so that they spend 6 years guiding (who they think is) the Antichrist towards the middle in an effort to stop Armageddon. Caring for humanity is what Zira was made to do, Guardian of the Eastern Gate and all, but Crowley... Crowley's a bit of a dark horse here. His job as demon is supposed to be causing misery & pain for humans, but all he does is mildly inconvenience them (and himself in the process... silly demon). It's not so much that he's the antithesis of Heaven, but that Heaven is the antithesis of him.
I'm pretty sure we won't get any insight into 'where are all the humans in heaven' in s3 (yes, I have every finger & toe crossed for s3 to happen), but it would be interesting if it was addressed, especially since Zira is Supreme Archangel now. Other than getting the happy ending we so desperately want, I'm on pins & needles to see what Zira does to Heaven, and to Hell, by proxy. I have a pretty good idea what they'll do to Earth... but that's a story for another post. 😉

New Eridu is a Fictional Playground
TL:DR: ZZZ is written like a sitcom primarily and its looseness of world building and the looseness of the world reflects this. It discards things inconvenient for the vibe and mood it's going for with something because that's what sitcoms primarily do. However, this is for better and for worse as the setting does have rules that are treated like a big deal but then also given the same respect as the majority of elements and it causes friction in the details while the whole of it works in the broad strokes.
So let's first clarify what I mean when I say ZZZ is written like a Sitcom. I don't mean this in structure. We are not just playing an interactive version of something like Seinfeld. No, it's actually more based on something I heard the South Park creators talk about and that's how the town of South Park is entirely inconsistent because things will be where they need to be in order for the episode they're doing to work. One episode might portray Chef's house as being right next to Walmart. The next one might have them on opposite sides. That doesn't matter though because the story being told is what matters, not the firmness of the world.
The ultimate version of this for me with ZZZ is the Golden Bangboo City quest, both for its strengths and weaknesses. The quest is one of my favorite in the game. Optimize how to get over 500,000 gear coins, a number that sounds patently ABSURD. All while in this compelling Hollow that has a lot of fun mechanics. If you don't think about it and go by the rules of the mission alone, it's phenomenal.
We do also all remember how the people there admit to having been trapped within the Hollow for a minimum of days, if not WEEKS, especially to accrue the debts they have? Or how about how the guy we need to get the gear coins for wants them... To pay for debts OUTSIDE of the Hollow, despite there literally being lines from characters about being sad that we can't do that and ALL impressions being that gear coins mean nothing in the wider world (even if it makes the gear coin locks confusing as hell). The latter is excusable but ether poisoning, the restrictions of Hollows, etc. like that are a BIG deal but even in main content, like with the thugs just sitting outside Red Fang safehouses, or Koleda's Agent Story where they admit to these raiders just sitting in the Hollow in a supposed 'safe' area and like... What are the rules here?
But you're not supposed to really ask. It's like how you don't question that Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother has all of his money. It's funnier not to have an explanation and for him to reveal his literal wall sized television. It's more entertaining that Homer can be this bumbling idiot at work and get into all sorts of shenanigans and never get fired for more than a week or never have to really worry about finances. On the other hand, these shows never go out of their way to try and make these principal, important parts of the show. Those stay fairly consistent and lead to some of the best moments of any of these works and that goes for ZZZ as well.
My favorite scene in the entire game so far goes to Koleda calling out the prototype's name. Is it more magic than scifi? Kind of. Is it over the top and kind of silly? Absolutely. Does it break what has come before?
...Only in that the prototype has not been corrupted by this much time spent in a Hollow, which is something I'm willing to overlook as it's questionable how much of its AI was actually online by then that could be corrupted. Otherwise? We've literally just fought three different mechs who were empowered by their emotional programming. We have seen how much these mechs mean to all of Belobog Industries and been explained Koleda's complex history with them, not helped by her sister being the one to continue championing them after her father's passing. All of these are played for laughs as much, if not more, than they are taken seriously and so Koleda embracing her heritage, figuring out the truth and believing in her father and the legacy he left behind has me tearing up to think about even now.
The best sitcoms always manage this. Where elements that used to be funny can then be shifted to hit like a punch to the gut. M.A.S.H. is the EASY one to call out for this with shit like Colonel Blake's death but I actually want to go to a different one because it's more iconic to me for how it works. See, the first time I ever heard the gag line "I'm not as think as you drunk I am," was in Scrubs. One of the doctors comes in drunk as a skunk and the others are mad at him. When put that way, it sounds silly and amusing. When you're told that it's their angry, condescending mentor figure, who is arguably the best doctor in the hospital, having breakdown because he just lost like four patients, including a cancer patient he thought he'd just saved (if I'm remembering right) from catastrophic failures outside of his control except for one mistake, one break in quarantine I believe... Suddenly, you're laughing but it also hurts to see him laid this low. The contrast makes the point hit harder than it would in a regular drama.
This is also why I think Chapter 3 of ZZZ so far is the weakest of the main chapters. It has no emotional core like Koleda or Nekomata that helps make the plot of the chapter work better and for you to ignore the breaks in logic. Instead, they go with tension... Which is also the part of the logic they break. After all, we're told that Pearlman's escape plan is going to only take like a couple of hours. However, canonically, our work with Victoria Housekeeping is over the course of multiple DAYS. At bare minimum, one night passes simply for the sake of interrogating the rebel forces that we pull out of the Ballet Twins. It is already hard to ignore this break in logic when we are mostly not interacting with the stakes, we're just enjoying the gags of Victoria Housekeeping, but it becomes even harder when you're also having to constantly think about the break in logic so as to be able to engage with the big question of the episode. I still managed to like it but it's part of why the anti-climax of Pearlman getting away was so dissatisfying for me because it didn't give a real payoff to what was already a pretty flimsy story. I would argue that for most of Big Bang Theory, the thing I think genuinely makes it not very good, this is its problem too. Even when the jokes are good and the energy is high, Victoria Housekeeping is a fun group to spend time with, you're lacking that real hook to bring it above just something to kill time with. Something to take away once the episode is over. The worst of ANYTHING that's just mid-tier, purely enjoyment based writing comes from this.
That is the for worst element of ZZZ being like a Sitcom. It is far more malleable for anyone to do as they want with than I would argue either Genshin or Star Rail because it leans into its own flexibility. However, that does mean it walks a fine line against potentially having the floor collapse out from under it because it is relying on more ephemeral things like raw charm and charisma, rather than a solid world you can invest in, for its core appeal.
For now, it's working but there's a reason a lot of Sitcoms get labeled with, "It was really good... Until Season X." And I hope Zenless can figure out how to avoid that or else it truly will fall out of its current zone and zero out. See you next tale.
======
Actually going to do a quick bit of additional notes here just because I feel like most people will see "X is like a Sitcom" and think I'm immediately being dismissive. That isn't the case. I love sitcoms. It's what I watched with my parents as a teenager and a young adult. I've seen almost the entirety of M.A.S.H TWICE with my brother (that final season deserves the reputation it has. sigh) Sitcoms are some of the most popular, beloved pieces of television ever for a reason. If you want some recs from me: Rules of Engagement genuinely has a lot to say about relationships, romantic and platonic, though with some wife guy humor from Patrick Warburton that is going to be up to your tastes. Scrubs is a classic, just stop when they try to swap the entire cast out, and while I know How I Met Your Mother gets given shit for its ending, the ride there is still good for most of the run. M.A.S.H... Just go watch M.A.S.H, PLEASE. It's old but it's not dated, nor is it offensive in really any way. Like the one person who wears drag isn't funny because he wears drag. It's because no one cares that he's wearing drag because he's only doing it to try and use prejudice to get discharged from the army and that doesn't make him special because none of them want to be there and that's about as insensitive as it gets as far as memory serves. It is one of the smartest things I have ever watched and has the weird paradox that most of the cast change outs actually IMPROVE the show for most of its running time, rather than diminish it and it starts at a pretty high bar so that's really saying something.
BUT the big thing I want to point out is that... ZZZ actually is using sitcoms for its groups. Belobog is a workplace comedy. The Cunning Hares are any of the billion broke bitch sitcoms out there. Soldier 11 is I think trying to capture some of M.A.S.H. with the absurdity of her quest but also being honest about her having done War Crimes. Even Victoria has that with, and I haven't watched any of this archtype so I might be wrong, being kind of based on shows like The Fresh Prince of Belair with Ellen being the low class person out of place amongst the group. If you're thinking that stuff like Friends or How I Met Your Mother are absent... I don't mean this in the way it's going to sound but Wise is Ross/his archtype and Belle is Rachel/her archtype. Not that they're in a relationship with each other but that they are the only nominally weird but mostly bland people in the group that grounds everyone else around them. The straight men comedically that bounce off everyone else.
And again: This is not a criticism. I could criticize how well each of these are done (Ellen suffers pretty badly from Wise being written as the milk toast guy that girls will just throw at themselves for no reason) but they are taking from good inspirations, at least in my opinion and I wanted to defend that. I feel like Sitcoms only really only ever get talked about negatively and I wanted to make it clear that that's not what I meant here and I even think it helps provide the unique vibe of ZZZ versus others around it.
======+++++======
I know some of what I listed might not be technically considered sitcoms but I would argue for any of them that they're bare minimum close enough to the formula and concepts and priorities of sitcoms to be useful references.

"Great Alastor, altruist, died for his friends"
a deeper look into Alastor's solo part of the final song
The entire soundtrack has been stuck in my head since the show ended, but Alastor's part of the final specifically has been playing on a loop in my brain since I first heard it.
The slow downward pan from the Vee's feeling like they are now finally able to take over the city to the upward pan with Alasto's song starting was a fantastic choice, the contrast in their emotions, in the music, and still it all fit perfectly together.
"This place reeks of death," is such an underrated opening for this song in my eyes. We know Alastor is a cannibal, we've seen him eat a dead deer before, [^1] which would point toward him not having a problem with the smell of death and decay, but he goes out of his way to mention it smells of death. I don't think he truly meant the smell of death in this scene though. He might be talking about the death of his career if he had gotten killed in his fight with Adam. The line "Great Alastor, Altruist, died for his friends" is not him referring to himself as an altruist, it is the headlines he already sees if he truly would have died, seemingly for his friends, for the hotel. The way he follows it up with "Sorry to disappoint, this is not where it ends" shows this. It's him stating how absurd it is, but that this would be the story everyone would be thinking should it have happened. But I also feel like he says it because he knows there's the tiniest of truths behind it. Why did he fight Adam alone? Why did he fight in the first place? For the hotel, for his friends. As much as Alastor hates to admit it, he has gotten closer to the people in the hotel for sure, especially when we look at how he interacts with them all. He seems friendlier, even if it's just for show and to keep up his facade, but he truly does act like he at least cares a little but about them. The look he has while even saying it speaks volumes, he looks truly terrified of the implication that hell could see him as an altruist in this fight.
At first, his smile was an angry snarl, aggression about being humiliated by losing this fight clearly written all over his smile. But then it turns genuinely afraid like he fears the mere concept of being seen as a decent person, not even a good person, just decent enough to fight for the people in the hotel.
He digs his nails into his scalp, dragging his hands down the side of his face, but not at the prospect of dying, but at the idea of what would've come after he had died. [^2] At the idea that all of hell would know he not only died but died for someone else. Before this thought of what other people in hell would think of him, he looked more angry, enraged that Adam even dared be an opponent that Alastor had to run from in order to get out of there alive. His reaction is surprisingly human considering how Alastor normally holds himself. Sure he was alone ignoring the eyes following him around his destroyed radio tower, [^3] There's no one here that he would have to lie to, but he knows better than anyone that you're never truly alone in hell, so it still surprised me how honest he was with the viewers in this moment. It's the most we see of him that doesn't seem to be a character, a facade.
His whole persona is this blatant mask he wears constantly, obvious to everyone who knows him. He even admitted to Charlie that his smile is not real in the slightest. But it works. Every scene where Alastor was talking before his Breakdown Ballad in the finale, I second-guessed every single word that left his mouth. Wondering if it all is a performance. I see a lot of people online with the same thought, looking at everything he says twice, trying to see any hidden meaning, any clue as to what he truly wants to say behind words that, if said by any other character, would've been the least interesting thing ever. And even then, his fake smile keeps in place, even if the actual emotions behind it are clear as day, while alone in his destroyed tower. It might be to fool himself like he fools others, but I think his smile is not able to be dropped, let it be part of his deal or part of his punishment, Alastor will never be seen without his smile. [^4]
Overall i feel like Alastor does care about the Hotel staff and guests to a certain extent. I can't fully trust it, and I'd be less than surprised if I were to be wrong, but there are scenes where he seems too much like he cares.
Moving along on the song, the next lyrics are rather straightforward forward "I'm hungry for freedom like never before. The constraints of my deal surely have a backdoor" circling back to what I mentioned above. His current goal is to escape this deal that is constricting his powers, powers that would most likely have saved him from the injury he sustained. The next and final lines"Once I figure out how to unclip my wings. Guess who will be pulling all the strings?" strongly point towards how he is unable to use his full strength, that his full potential can't be reached while he is still under this deal he made. The thought of Alastor not being at his full potential in his fight with Adam is on some level truly terrifying, a Sinner can reach these kinds of powers in hell that he is able to fight someone like Adam, the first man, someone with approximately the same amount of power Lilith must have? I've just today talked to a friend of one about it. Yes, Alastor lost the fight, but he held up quite well and was a worthy opponent to the point that Adam had to seriously take a second, stop joking around, and concentrate on the fight to get a single hit on Alastor. All of this while Alastor also got a few hits in, not as strong as the ones he had to endure later on, but still. They were hits.
Regardless, in the end, Alastor came very close to dying, and that was for a cause that wasn't just for himself. Seeing what Adam did to the Hotel (or Sir Pentious while we're at it), Alastor has to honestly be glad he even survived that blow directly to his chest. There surely was some plot armor behind this decision, but it's still believable when we trust the theory that Alastor made a deal with someone far more powerful than anyone expects.
This show, and Alastor specifically, has taken over my thoughts completely.
[^1]: in my eyes his being a cannibal points to how he has a need for superiority. To always prove his worth. In his days alive he was a serial killer, a hunter, and now in hell, he has aspects of a deer, a prey animal. The cannibalism is purely to show that he is still on top, that he is superior even to those similar to him, to those that are the same as him. He might have characteristics of a prey animal, but he stays the hunter.
[^2]: this strengthens my theory that Alastor is also afraid of dying whiteout escaping the deal he is currently still bound to. I touch on it in this post a bit more clearly, it's almost at the end of the post.
[^3]: I'd like to link everyone to this post for some thoughts on the eyes in this scene. It's incredibly well written and I couldn't have phrased it better.
[^4]: the closest we ever get to not seeing him, or more part of him, not smiling is shortly before he vanishes from the fight with Adam. His shadow can be seen frowning in the background before quickly correcting itself. It's a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of situation.

Before you judge me I would like to clear it I’m a JK biased army and have loved seeing jikook since 2017. 3 episodes in, I realised this is the most detached jikook interactions I have ever seen. Some would say they are meeting after a long time (which is terrible imo if I see them as a couple) and there’s cameras so it’s obvious there might be awkwardness amongst the two but THIS also isn’t their first rodeo so all of it is pretty saddening. All that skinship doesn’t faze me anymore cause how JK was treating JM was something I wouldn’t even treat a friend (and never a LOVER) that I have met after years. Especially if that friend is sick and suffering. I tried to explain myself that maybe he tried to lighten the atmosphere by giving JM time to rest while entertaining us thru other ways but apart from jokes, there wasn’t a hint of reassurance from his side. And you could say he built a stone shrine but i just that’s how JK is. He’s spontaneous, saw some stones and built it. We don’t even see him wishing for JM as everyone says. And this is so opposite of the JK I have always seen with JM. Sure I got to see his caring side with how he shared food and drinks with the staff. That’s the considerate JK I love and have seen through years. But I couldn’t locate this JK in any way with his interactions with JM. Again they were meeting after a time… okay yes they were but in this same period that they haven’t allegedly met we saw JK giggling and asking JM to meet multiple times in his Weverse lives in 2023, watching compilations of JM related content and I thought it’s so obvious that this guy is missing JM and loves & cares for him and that’s what is the blatant difference in Wlives and AYS JK like it’s two different people.
I have never really been threatened by Tae’s presence in Jikook matters cause I simply never saw any thing romantic like in their interactions but Jikook has been a different story to me with all the growth in their dynamics, GCF tokyo, rose bowl and so much more. Through all this period, I have only seen the soft loving dynamic between the two so AYS has been a huge shock for me. Even if they weren’t together it would be sad but definitely okay for me but even in last episode JK said hope you get a bad stomach again this time or saying why didn’t his boat flip and trying to push the kayak and all of it was a no-no for me because it was surprising to see him say these things when I know he’s always been a considerate and respectful guy every time. Is this only me?
disclaimer
i understand this conversation was happening last week, but it is coming back again i believe. i hope my answer to this illuminates that i am sort of over this level of scrutiny of their words and actions, because it gets us nowhere and i am often left feeling a little sad. id rather let us enjoy this content for what it is right now and see what the hell comes out of it. also please be respectful if anyone chooses to add on to this conversation thanks.
my immediate reaction to the show was a similar level of confusion and slight disappointment at the perceived difference in ays' jikook. the bickering over the parking, the crude bathroom humor, and jungkook's comments about jimin's kayak like you mentioned all were also shocks to me too. but as time went on, i tried to let go of it. i needed the reality check that we will truly never fully understand jikook's bond.
we are used to finding small crumbs in larger scale pieces of content - sort of like ays ep 3. and oddly enough those are the softer moments. little little small things like jungkook's hand on his knee and his concern after jimin got hurt. that's the jungkook i am used to. but you zoom out of those moments and they feel different - why? we've never seen them just exist. this may be a regular part of their friendship dynamic that we have just never seen. i do think jungkook growing up does play a part as well. i found him to be much more loud, talkative, and brash then i previously assumed. but the reminder that they are people who will change overtime is very needed and valid.
i don't really know what to make of it, but i don't want to make inferences. yes, it is jarring in places, but i don't exactly know what it means for their friendship because... i am not apart of their relationship. the only thing i know is jimin still decided to spend time with him, keep the show going, and eventually enlist with him. jimin hasn't had problems speaking with jungkook about his actions in the past (rainy day fight call out), so i truly think if jungkook did something to hurt him, he would say so. i trust them to manage their relationships themselves.
i know this gets into speculation territory, but i feel like the camera may play a bigger difference then we think. jungkook says at the end of ep 2 that "we should become entertainers so good we can do this til we're 50." jungkook is also the one concerned with the theme of the show and are you sure?! as a whole. jimin just seems to be trying to make the most of his bad fortune on these trips. i think if anything, jungkook is turning to joking and silliness for the sake of the show's entertainment factor. also, we are only seeing select, edited clips from a 72 hour-long trip. jungkook does check in with jimin verbally a few times across the first two eps and i'm hoping he did help jimin out as much as he could, but that all could very well be cut out. from the editing point of view, it's not about those tender moments. why include jimin getting continuously sprayed with water guns and a bunch of poop jokes (aka embarrassing him on camera), but seemingly none of these quieter conversations and intimate moments that most likely did happen? it's for the sake of the show and its narrative. it would be really funny if a lot of this pops up in the behind the scenes footage. there's always a grain of salt you need to take while watching these contents, since we sincerely will never have a full glimpse into their relationship.
thank you for your ask anon! i appreciate your honesty on this show.
#jikook#anon ask#i know i said id be away from here#but this was stirring in my brain since last saturday so
