October is marked as Breast Cancer Awareness Month around the world. According to the WHO, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, and approximately 1.38 million new cases and 4,58,000 deaths from breast cancer each year. The goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to raise attention and support for awareness, early detection, treatment options, and palliative care. If detected early, with accurate diagnosis and treatment- breast cancer can be cured. Hence awareness of signs & symptoms and screening by clinical examination (by your gynaecologist) along with mammography is important. August is Gastroparesis Awareness Month, established by the International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD). The theme for 2020 is to raise awareness about symptoms, burdens, and quality of life for those living with gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a chronic digestive condition characterized by symptoms where the stomach doesn't empty properly. It can occur in children or adults.
