If I ever attempt another multi-chapter Control story, I’d very much like to explore the effects of Hedron’s and Polaris’s resonance through Jesse and Darling, to play with the unclear space that the writers left us. (But also because I really love those two 😆)

Thoughts below…

Are Hedron and Polaris the same sound based entity? A reflection of a greater cosmic being/ creature? Do they graft onto the host with independence or are they absorbed into the host’s psyche? I have to wonder if Polaris is another facet of Jesse, in her troubled mind or if she really is a separate voice in Jesse’s head. And maybe Polaris is separate at first then they blur together in symbiosis.

Is Jesse’s high affinity for paranatural ability because of Polaris or because she herself is special? And how would that affect Darling who exposed himself fully and repeatedly to Hedron resonance? Could he too mirror Jesse’s powers, in binding objects, in jumping between control points? To take that a step further, the Hiss function similarly to Polaris in taking residence in the human body. But the Hiss is invasive and dominating. You could even say the Hiss might be a twisted self-serving version of Hedron/Polaris (because of Alan Wakes meddling) or just another resident of slidescape-36. If the Hiss can share abilities between its hosts as it propagates, could Jesse and Darling share powers similarly?

With such similar resonance I like to think that it would lead to an opening for connection or overlap of Polaris and Hedron and their hosts. Darling speaks of Thresholds in his Black Rock presentation: “There are areas in The Oldest House, where under the right conditions when the frequencies match, other dimensions leak in.” Hedron and Polaris work through frequency and resonance, in synchronous vibration. If both of them are so similar, if not the same resonance, might that not also allow for a ‘leaking in’ with Jesse and Darling? (Under the right conditions…proximity, heightened emotions) that’s a perfectly valid excuse for telepathy. And maybe it’s a stretch but they could potentially share thoughts or feelings.

Dylan was also exposed to Polaris, though he rejected her. He sees her as a separate entity, but maybe that’s because he rejected her. Jesse has a post game vision of him and the city and the Hiss. Is that an overlap of resonance for Jesse and Dylan? Or just something we the players are teased with? Seems like a crisis to come.

Darling speaks of resonance as unseen fields, altering reality that comes in contact with them. Exploring such changes might make for a decent story…

En este estado de falsa saciedad, de falso espíritu comunal, vanamente imaginaron que la libertad con respecto al trabajo físico proporcionaría a todos lo supremo en cuanto a iluminación como producto derivado del nuevo lujo, ocio y lo que llamaban ‘la buena vida’.

En la búsqueda de la sabiduría del mundo y de que se les considerara sabios entre los hombres, los individuos iban en pos de actividades licenciosas que empalagaban a los sentidos, a la vez que pasaban por alto el llamamiento para que adoraran la Fuente de la Vida y llevaran a cabo el propósito supremo creativo. De modo que manifestaron el lado izquierdo de la tabla*, pensando que nada era nuevo y declarando, "soy rico", me he enriquecido, y de ninguna cosa tengo necesidad’, esta actividad contrasta con la valoración divina de su estado que reza:

Y, en la medida en que la ciencia y la tecnología y los inventos se depositan en el altar de la Madre Divina con el fin de que, libres del trabajo pesado, las personas puedan ir en busca de una vida espiritual y de la condición de adepto que les corresponde, es en tal caso una manifestación legítima.

No obstante, hemos visto numerosas civilizaciones y en los registros de ellas en el ákasha que, cuando se les dan muchas comodidades y tecnología, en lugar de aprovechar la oportunidad para perseguir el sendero espiritual, empiezan a mostrarse indulgentes con el desperdicio del fuego sagrado en uno o todos los chakras.

Ello conduce al consiguiente agotamiento de la Luz en el templo y, de ahí, la incapacidad de identificarse con un sendero de cristeidad personal. A continuación la gente se vuelve degenerada. Ello ha sucedido no sólo en nuestro planeta, sino también mucho tiempo atrás en el que fuera el planeta más próximo al Sol, que quedó destruido y es actualmente tan sólo un cinturón de asteroides Hedron.

Excuse me sir/ma'am could I trouble you for a Fucked Up Math Fact? I'm doing an 'iterative multiverse' thing for the lore of my book and I need the number of multiverses to be huge but not infinite. So I need some fucked up shit about an n-hedron that has more vertices than there are atoms in the universe or something like that. Would really appreciate it!

Watched a Control theory video and now I’m wondering why Jesse wasn’t enlightened to the point of ascension/ transportation as Darling was. Did she just not want to pursue that, or was Darling’s circumstance different? They both had multiple experiences with Slidescape 36, right, or did Darling have more exposure to Hedron resonance than Jesse did with Polaris? Why didn’t Polaris teach her as Hedron taught Darling? If Hedron and Polaris are of the same resonance, even if they are not the same entity exactly, wouldn’t Jesse be given the same opportunity? Polaris literally took up residence in her head. If Hedron was only a conduit, then Jesse should have the same potential to go wherever Darling went…

I would kill for more info on Hedron and Polaris in Control 2.
