Another certified alpha flight moment I think about a lot is when Mac was dying when they fought lamer alpha flight the first time and Heathers ass was like ‘I wonder what’s behind this door 🤭’. It’s your husband. His suit is malfunctioning and he’s going to explode right in front of you. You now have to take on a huge responsibility of keeping the now not government sponsored super police in order while dealing with immense grief and guilt. You can’t stop thinking about if you had never wondered what’s behind that door, would your husband still be alive. The only solace in this stressful time of your life is two men who are both kinda into you but one is in a weird situationship thing with a married couple and the other has intense internalized ableism but at least he’s not making it your problem. I mean like damn, if I was Heather ‘Girlboss’ McNeil Hudson I would have to take a 6 month vacation or become a hermit or something.

December 2nd - Vindicator

Heather McNeil-Hudson was working as a secretary for the Ca-Am Petroleum Company when she mean the brilliant geologist and engineer, James Hudson.   The two became close and Heather assisted James in developing the exploration suit that would ultimately become the Gladiator armor.  She also stood by Hudson as he fought to make sure the armor stayed out of the hands of the company’s villainous chief officer, Jerome Jaxon.

Heather came up with the idea of forming a Canadian based team of super heroes and she and James ultimately founded the team Alpha Flight, with James leading the team as the hero, Gladiator.  Although she did not have powers, Heather managed the team and was in many ways the heart and soul of the endeavor.

Heather and James ultimately married and the two encountered an amnesic Wolverine whist on their honeymoon.  The two nursed Wolverine back to health and he would go on to become a member of Alpha Flight.  

Later, James was killed in a plot orchestrated by his former adversary, Jerome Jaxon.  A distraught Heather tried to maintain Alpha Flight as best she could, but the team ultimately disbanded.  Some time thereafter, Heather reformed Alpha Flight and lead the team in an updated version of her husband’s armor.  Herein she took not he alias of Vindicator and she and Alpha Flight would go on to have many more adventures together.  

James was later resurrected and reunited with Heather.  The pair had a daughter whom they named Clare.  Although James would resume his role as Guardian, Heather continued on as Vindicator and the two shared leadership over the team.  

A version of Heather Hudson briefly featured in the Fox Film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, portrayed by actress Julia Blake.  The heroine first appeared in the pages of X-Men Vol. 1 #139 (1980).

On today's Alpha Flight Monday, Marvel introduces Heather Hudson as ... Vindicator! Plus we learn about Puck's past and the source of his terrible pain. Tune in for my reading/review.

The Uncanny X-Men #139 - ...Something Wicked This Way Comes!

The X-Men practice their skills in the Danger Room. Angel is badly out of practice and almost injures Nightcrawler. Wolverine, Storm, and Colossus are able to save Nightcrawler, and Angel apologizes for his mistake. Wolverine says not to worry about it; the rest of the team will retrain Angel. Wolverine also says that Professor Xavier made a good decision making Storm the leader of the team after Cyclops’s departure.

The team tries to decide on a code name for Kitty Pryde. Storm suggests Sprite, and Kitty likes it. The Professor sends Storm and Sprite out for a “surprise” which turns out to be dance classes. Storm is determined to make sure that Sprite has a childhood (which Storm never had) even though Sprite has joined the X-Men. 

Wolverine tells the Professor that he needs to go sort things out with Alpha Flight and the Canadian government. The Professor says that Wolverine should do that, but not to go alone. Nightcrawler agrees to go with Wolverine. Wolverine and Nightcrawler travel to Ottawa, Canada to meet with Heather and James MacDonald Hudson. Heather is very excited to see Wolverine. She calls him Logan, and we finally learn Wolverine’s real name.

Meanwhile, some of the members of Alpha Flight (Shaman, Snowbird, and Heather’s husband James aka Vindicator) are in a cabin in the woods discussing their mission to locate... someone. They don’t say who it is, but they say he’s big, cunning, and almost impossible to kill. Sounds like fun!

Shaman senses something outside the cabin, and Alpha Flight prepares to fight. But it’s only Wolverine and Nightcrawler, and although they start off a bit unfriendly, Alpha Flight agrees to a truce with the X-Men.

Alpha Flight explains that they’re looking for a huge monster that attacked a family that was camping in the woods. Wolverine remembers fighting the monster before. He calls it the Wendigo.

Wolveine recollects a previous mission he was on to find the Hulk, but what he actually found was the Hulk AND the Wendigo. The mission failed as Wolverine was unable to defeat them both. 

Nightcrawler goes to the car to get their “gear” but on the way he meets -
