Meine Handgelenke schwer wie Blei, werden genommen, mit Kabeln & Pflastern versehen. Eine der Schwestern fragt:"Hätten wir es NeonLila nicht doch noch sagen sollen bevor es los geht?" "Was soll schon passieren? Das ganze Ding ist ein Experiment. Soll NeonLila uns doch erzählen, was sie auf ihrer langen Reise gesehen hat. Lass sie uns beide zu Ende verkabeln, ehe Dr. Sable wieder zurück ist." "In Ordnung", sagt die andere Schwester, dabei weinende Hunde im Hintergrund, das Lachen von Dr. Sable & schreiende Affen. Darauf folgt ein tiefer aber enormer Knall & Dr. Sable, läuft pfeifend den Gang in unsere Richtung. Ich wehre mich längst nicht mehr. Im Gegenteil zu meinem Sprachvermögen, kann ich sie noch alle sehr gut sprechen hören. Mehrere Köpfe mit hellblauen Mützen, laufen an meinem Fußende, während ich zusammen, mit NeonRot zur Hälfte im finsteren Gang stehe. Es weht ein leichter Wind über mein Gesicht. Wir hören Tiere schreien. Affen, aber scheinbar von weiter weg. Ich versuche meine Fingerspitzen zu bewegen, doch mein Körper insgesamt fühlt sich nur schwer & benommen an. Irgendwer hat irgendetwas gerufen. Es klang wie ein langes; Nein! Solange bis ich es in meinem Unterbewusstsein, mit der Angst zu tun bekomme, kurz denke ich an den Punkt 3. in meinem Vertrag zurück der besagt, dass es sich hier an Ort & Stelle, um ein Menschliches Experiment handeln soll. Mein Krankenbett beginnt zu ruckeln & ich werde in den OP gefahren. Nun strahlt mir das Licht der OP Lampe gänzlich in die Augen. Durch die Tür des großen & kalten Operationssaals ertönen klagevolle Laute von Hunden, mehrerer Hunde & wieder ertönt dabei das Pfeifen des Chefarztes, welches ich bereits anhand seiner Melodie auswendig kannte,: ”bringt NeonRot schon rein & schließen Sie, sie zusammen an & vor allem schließe die beschissene Tür! Zwar müsste das Mittel bereits wirken, sodass NeonLila kaum mehr etwas mitbekommen dürfte, aber sicher ist sicher, ich stecke ja nicht drinnen.” Sein Gesicht kommt meinem immer näher & sein Grinsen wird immer breiter nach dem er hinzufügte; noch nicht. Much like Welcome to Nightvale, I feel like a lot of people have forgotten just how big and influential Yuri on Ice was. It fully broke into the mainstream. It was everywhere. Evgenia Medvedeva, the top female figure skater in 2016 and 2017, had YOI plushies thrown to her on the ice and wore a Victuuri tshirt to an interview. Japanese pair skaters Miu Suzaki and Ryuichi Kihara skated to the YOI theme at the fucking Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics. The Olympics. Canadian ice dancer Joseph Johnson did the ‘J.J. Style’ hand symbol in the kiss and cry. Johnny Weir made me cry by talking about how he wished the homophobic world of figure skating he experienced could have been more like the kinder world of Yuri on Ice.

There were cameos and references to it everywhere. Everyone was talking about it. People who had never watched anime were watching it. It was so big it crashed Crunchyroll and Tumblr. Twice. And all that for what was at its core, a queer love story that helped pave the way for more queer stories to come.

Charles has always left Edwin little notes slipped between the pages of his favorite books, in his science equipment, places he knows Edwin loves. Just silly things—post its that say “hi Edwin :)”. doodles of Edwin with his nose stuck in a book. reminders to stock up on wolfsbane. but.

Then, post canon, Edwin tentatively starts dating people. And it’s ridiculous, because Edwin’s right there, all the time, but Charles..misses him a bit. And his heads a mess, and he can’t sort out what the hell he’s feeling most of the time, and whenever he tries to say any of it out loud it comes out rubbish.

So. He writes down some of the shit he can’t say right, and because he’s a coward, hides them so he doesn’t have to see Edwin’s face when he reads them.

then Edwin starts writing back.

Neat lilac blue little envelopes appear in Charles coat pockets. In his bag. Once, in his shoe? Some nights, Edwin will clear his throat and mention something from a letter, offhand, like they’re just picking up conversation, and Charles can pretend they are. That they always have talked about the basement, the belt, the nameless fear that chokes him every time Edwin walks out the door with someone else on his arm.

Sometimes he can’t. The words get stuck in his throat. Edwin’s not mad, he’s maddeningly, stubbornly kind about it, which is worse.

Some nights they trade. A secret for a secret. Charles learns about the novels Edwin used to hide under his mattress, about all the lonely years before Charles got there. About Simon.

Meanwhile, Edwin is losing his mind, because Charles has accidentally stumbled onto what was a fucking courting ritual in his time. Love letters were something engaged couples treasured for years, kept and reread over and over. (Edwin does. keep them in a special box, will take one out and trace the words, tuck it in his breast pocket for courage).

Edwin would rather have to reattach a limb again than lose Charles trust, all the dark and beautiful things he shares with Edwin only. He knows—knows Charles doesn’t mean to make him fall more in love with him.

a silly shoujo concept with jade where he picks up your notebook after you've left it in class. resourceful eel that he is, he flips through the pages out of curiosity. he's certain he'll just find your notes or doodles you've made out of boredom, but it never hurts to pry just a little. he won't tell a soul if he finds anything embarrassing. certainly not!

to his surprise, he finds a bucket list of sorts, which details all of the things you hope to accomplish by the end of your time at nrc. you're quite methodical about this list. there are academic goals. personal goals. social goals. you've checked some of them off: do well on this year's midterm. commit to an exercise routine. make more friends. etc. etc.

but then he happens upon the romantic goals. things like holding hands, kissing, cuddling, going on dates, sharing meals... he reads through every item on this specific list and finds himself blushing like a lovestruck maiden. it's not because of the nature of this list but, rather, the notes you've made in the margin: possible people to try this with: jade leech?

and his name is the only one you've written! :O is this...an indirect love confession? do you have feelings for him? is now a good time to hopefully try to kindle a deeper bond with you after he's spent so much time pining from the sidelines??????

tl;dr - jade wants to be the one to complete the goals on your romance list, but you're too prideful (and suspicious of him) to admit you'd ever think of him in such a light! that's too embarrassing! too much opportunity to be exploited. and jade's a bit of a shameless coward.

so he decides there's only one solution: he's going to try to court you. the mer way. the human way would be much too obvious, after all. ^^;;;;

Thank you cass, your series has really created such a happy little fandom that I find is not my safe space. You have inspired thousands of artists and if it weren’t for you. A lot of people wouldn’t be where they are now. I’m excited to see what else you make, rise or not. You’re an incredible person and I’m glad I was able to follow along this comic. It truly gave me something to look forward to.
