A Guide to Heart Health
Heart wellbeing is a basic part of general prosperity, and progressions in clinical innovation have made it conceivable to address complex heart conditions through different surgeries. Among these are Heart Valve Replacement, Aneurysm Repair Surgery, and therapies for Cardiac Myxoma. Every one of these systems assumes an essential part in keeping up with heart capability and working on the personal satisfaction for patients with explicit heart conditions.
Heart Valve Replacement
Heart valves guarantee the appropriate progression of blood through the heart's chambers, and any glitch can prompt serious medical problems. At the point when a valve becomes harmed or infected, it may not open or close appropriately, prompting conditions like stenosis or spewing forth. Heart Valve Replacement is a surgery that includes supplanting a harmed valve with a mechanical or natural prosthesis.
This strategy is many times important when the valve's capability can't be reestablished through less obtrusive techniques, like drug or minor fixes. Patients with conditions like aortic stenosis or mitral valve disgorging may profit from Heart Valve Replacement, which can fundamentally further develop heart capability and lessen side effects like windedness, weariness, and chest torment.
Aneurysm Repair Surgery
An aneurysm is a lump in the mass of a vein, commonly a conduit, brought about by shortcoming in the vessel wall. Assuming left untreated, an aneurysm can break, prompting dangerous dying. Aneurysm Repair Surgery is a technique pointed toward supporting or supplanting the debilitated segment of the corridor to forestall crack.
This medical procedure is most generally performed on aortic aneurysms, which happen in the body's biggest course. Aneurysm Repair Surgery should be possible through customary open a medical procedure or less obtrusive endovascular strategies, contingent upon the aneurysm's size, area, and the patient's general wellbeing. Early identification and opportune careful intercession are pivotal to forestalling the extreme results of an aneurysm crack.
Heart Myxoma
Cardiac Myxoma is an uncommon, harmless cancer that starts in the heart. Despite the fact that non-dangerous, it can in any case present huge dangers because of its area. The growth normally creates in the left chamber, and assuming that it develops adequately enormous, it can deter blood stream or cause embolism, where sections of the cancer sever and make a trip to different pieces of the body.
Careful expulsion is the essential treatment for Heart Myxoma. The strategy includes extracting the cancer from the heart, generally through open-heart medical procedure. Early location is critical, as untreated myxomas can prompt confusions like stroke, cardiovascular breakdown, or even unexpected passing.
Conclusion
Understanding the different heart conditions and the medical procedures accessible to treat them is fundamental for patients and their friends and family. Heart Valve Replacement, Aneurysm Repair Surgery, and Cardiac Myxoma therapy are imperative methodology that can reestablish heart capability and further develop future. On the off chance that you or somebody you know is confronting these circumstances, talking with a cardiologist to investigate careful choices is a basic move toward better heart wellbeing.

02: Barbie's Dreamhouse.
Joel Miller x f!bimbo!reader. previous. series masterlist. next.
02. Strawberry Lemonade.
warnings: reader stares at joel a lot and finds him hot as hell, reader is dramatic as hell (might be annoying to some), explicit thoughts, suggestive, sarah is alive and 12 years old here, reader thinks she's a homewrecker, not beta read.
summary: you just can't help but gawk at your hot contractor who's working for free, thank god the view is free too. but a revelation makes you question if you're lusting for a married man.
reader's outfit is the blue one of the dolls from the barbie movie (this one under)
You had settled on the couch on the second-floor balcony with a glass and pitcher of cold lemonade and a few snacks, while Joel was up on the roof, using a ladder to climb up to the edges.
There was no mistaking his experience— he made little noise at all, moving around the structure as if it were just another Tuesday. Despite his hardass appearance, he was a very skilled worker.
He eventually climbed down from the roof and headed inside, taking a second to catch his breath before spotting you upstairs.
He was immediately thrown off by the adorable dress— especially the heart detail. But he knew it was rude to stare, so he did his best to keep his eyes on yours.
"That… was actually a lot quicker than I thought it would be," Joel said, clearly pleased. "I should have the rest of the replacement shingles put on in no time at all…"
"Are they pink?" you giggled.
"They're white but I painted over the roof last time, I'll just paint over em' some other day."
"I got some snacks for us. I tested the fridge and it was working too." you poured him a glass of lemonade. "Here, cool off."
Joel took the drink. The cool liquid was very much appreciated after all of that hard work. He took a few swigs from his glass before he looked you over again.
"Thank you…" He nodded, clearly still unable to tear his eyes away from your dress. "Where'd you stay last night?"
"I found a nearby bed and breakfast beside a gasoline station. At least they didn't question why I was all dirty when I checked in." you giggled. "So, what's next?"
"Hmm… the plumbin'. I’m assuming it hasn’t been fixed." Joel's brow furrowed slightly. “The main shutoff doesn’t work very well, so if there’s a leak, you won’t be able to do anything about it. That’s pretty much a priority.”
"Oh, right. Um... so what do we do?"
"Well, we’ve got to find the shutoff for now," Joel said as he set his drink down. It was clear he hadn’t done much plumbing in his life, but from the times he had worked on it, it was also clear he was quite skillful when it came to repairs.
"Follow me. The main one should be in the basement, from what I remember."
"Alright! Lead the way."
You follow Joel as he headed down the stairs into the basement— it was pretty cluttered down there, with lots of old junk strewn around. As he made his way across the room to the back wall, he grabbed an old flashlight and turned it on.
"Hopefully, the shutoff valve ain't coated in any rust," he muttered. "But if it is, might be tougher than expected…"
Sure enough, he found the right valve, but it was covered in that awful orange rust and was completely stuck. He frowned as he studied it.
"Oh… that ain't good. This could be a problem…"
"Oh no... what do we do?"
He looked at you and shrugged.
"We could apply some WD-40 to it and hope that loosens it up. But that’s a long shot. In all honesty, I think we’re gon' need to hire a professional plumber to come in and see what can be done about this."
"Well, uh..." you trailed off. Joel watched as you fidgeted with your fingers as your body grew stiff.
Joel could tell that you were trying your best not to worry, but he really couldn’t come up with any alternative. As much as he hated to ask, he really didn’t think there was another way around it.
"I'll cover it. Don't worry."
"Thank you, Joel." you put your hands behind your back and smiled cheekily at him.
In the course of the next few weeks, Joel hired workers from an electrician to install the chandelier and fix the wiring, to plumbers to fix the plumbing issue. With his own money, nonetheless.
"Thank you, seriously, Joel..." You stared up at the pink jewels dangling off the chandelier in awe.
Joel chuckled softly and was about to respond, but he paused, realizing just how many times he’s heard those same words in just a few weeks.
"You don't have to thank me so much, you know. This was nothing"
"I mean, giving thanks is always a basic human thing." you smiled and placed both of your hands on your hips. "Appreciation can do amazing things."
There was another pause. He shrugged and smirked. "I mean… are you always this appreciative?" he asked, trying to hide his smile.
"Of course! Why wouldn't I?"
"I dunno, I've just never known anyone who can be this appreciative, you know? It’s definitely not something I'm used to hearing…"
There was another pause as he was contemplating what to say.
"It’s just that… you're never gonna make me feel bad for it or anything, right?"
Your shoulders dropped and you tilted your head to the side. "Why would I?"
He sighed.
"I dunno. It's just that most people I know like to take advantage of or make me feel bad for what I do for them. You know, like always makin' me feel like I should do more just because I'm helpin' in the first place. But you don't ever act like that, and… well, I dunno. I guess I haven't been used to it."
"Why would they do such a thing?" you looked offended, furrowing your brows.
"I've always just been surrounded by assholes. I guess it's what's really normal for me. But with you… I mean, the difference is staggerin', isn't it? I guess I'm just now realizin' just how shitty most people that I've known actually are."
You smiled and walked towards him. "And how many people did you offer to fix their house for free?"
He laughed as he thought about it.
"Never before have I offered something like that. Usually, it's more like helpin' 'em fix their car or somethin' like that. So honestly, this is new territory for both of us. Though, even then, you're still much more appreciative than just about anyone I’ve ever come across."
"But I do promise," you held out your pinky finger with a wide smile. "I will pay you back soon."
For some reason, the pinky finger was funny to him. Maybe it was just that you were so genuinely innocent in your promise, or the contrast between how serious of a situation this could potentially be and you being so playful. He took your pinky finger and wrapped his own around yours. He looked you over.
"Do you swear? Because if you don't, there's about to be hell to pay. I take pinky promises quite seriously."
"That's so fun! I always keep my promises."
"I know you will. So this right here is a sign of a promise. And I trust that you will be able to keep that promise, so I don't need you to repay me right away."
"I promise. Cross my heart, hope to die."
He laughed and nodded, his smile growing as he squeezed slightly harder around your pinky. "Okay then. Just remember, you break this pinky promise, and I won't hesitate to let you know just how disappointed I am."
You let out a giggle after letting go of his pinky "Ooooh, I'm so scared."
He laughed as well.
"I think you should be! I'm not usually one to joke around when it comes to stuff like this." he chuckled again. "But just so you know, even though I'd be pretty angry, I really wouldn't have it in me to stay mad at you. You know that by now, right?"
"Why?" you batted your eyelashes at him "Is it because I'm preeeeetty?"
He was trying really hard to suppress his smile and hold back from laughing.
"It is indeed because I think you are pretty…. But I can't deny the fact that you've also become really good at pushin' out my buttons. Even if I really should be furious 'bout all the money I spent on this house, you make it tough not to just smile back at 'cha and forgive ya."
"I know, I'm sorryyyy..." you clasped your hands together and dramatically knelt down in front of him.
He chuckled. "Well, I really mean it. Your personality is one of the most refreshin' personalities I've ever come across in a long time. And I never would have even met you if it weren't for this house and Mags. That has to count for somethin', right?"
"Sentimental value?"
"Yeah, exactly. It's like the universe knew I needed someone like you in my life. Who knew a house could actually lead to a meaningful relationship… I definitely didn't see that comin'."
"The world works in mysterious ways." you shrugged. "Keep up, old man."
Joel laughed louder. There was something about you calling him an old man that he loved, even though he should be offended.
"Watch it, before you start makin' this old man feel his age. My body is just now startin' to fall apart on me, don't give it a reason to start fallin' apart faster than it already is!"
The both of you laughed. You got up from the floor and fixed your dress "So, is there anything else the house needs?"
Joel thought for a moment, finally coming to the realization that the house was probably good for now. It'd definitely need some more work on the interior in time, but at the least, it was liveable.
"Honestly? No, I don't believe there is. I think this house is good for now. I'll keep doin' my check-ins every few weeks or so to make sure that everythin' is alright with the house, but besides that, there's really nothin' more we need to do here."
"So..." you fiddled with your fingers. "What do we do now?"
Joel shrugged. "I'm not sure. I guess we just have ourselves a nice, long moment of standin' here and being proud of the fact that we've both survived the experience of trying to renovate this damn house. It’s a miracle either of us has our sanity still intact."
He laughed as he leaned up against the wall of the dining room.
"You know, you've spent a lot of time here. I've never even seen the inside of your house." you giggled.
"You know you're not wrong, I was here almost every day for weeks on end." his eyes trailed off as he thought and sighed. "I guess I should invite you over sometime then, right? It's not nearly as interesting as this house, but I'm sure you'd love it."
"My house is pink. Big deal." you rolled your eyes and walked towards him, leaning against the kitchen wall "You know every nook and cranny of my house, of course, I deserve to know yours."
"It's only fair."
"Indeed."
You kept staring at Joel. He had some beads of sweat falling from his scalp to his face, and god did he look hotter than hell. You felt like a Victorian lady seeing an ankle.
"Are you single-" your question got muffled by the sound of the doorbell, and turn your head towards the door "Coming!" you said.
You walked towards the door and swung it open, greeted by a young girl. "Hi, is my dad here?"
Your brows furrowed. "Dad?" who could possibly-
"Sarah," Joel said from behind you. Your head immediately snapped towards him and your eyes widened like a deer in headlights. "Have you met my daughter?" he asked you.
You blinked twice. "I-I don't think I have."
You really had no idea he even was a father... or even considered, married.
Sarah looked around the room in awe, her eyes trailing all across the furniture and her expression changing several times as she looked.
"Did you fix this house all by yourself?" she asked Joel, her eyes wide.
Joel cleared his throat and nodded. "Yeah. I rebuilt this whole house pretty much myself— minus the plumbin' and electrician work, which I had hired some guys for. We still have to go through planning on each room, but it's almost done." he pointed towards you. "She's still thinkin' about what to do with all these rooms."
Sarah's facial expression changed to a small smile as she giggled. She turned her head towards you. "Daddy tells me a lot about you. He says you're so nice. The nicest lady he's ever met. Was it all true?”
You were still in a shocked state but you shook your head a bit and gave her a smile. "Why don't you be the judge of that?"
"You're really pretty..." Sarah stared in awe at you.
"Hey, didn't you say you gotta pick up your Girl Scout cookies today?" Joel looked at his wristwatch. "We gotta hurry if you wanna start sellin' 'em tomorrow."
"Oh, right!"
Joel and Sarah waved goodbye to you as they walked out of your house, and you stood there on your porch questioning everything.
"He's... married?" you closed the front door and walked up the stairs, slowly and dramatically. You tried to think of the signs that he was married. Ring? You didn't even notice! Well, not counting the times you stared at his large fingers and imagined them inside of you...
"Oh, god..." the realization hit you. You entered the main bedroom and you fell to your knees. "I'm a homewrecker!" you cried out.

On July 4th my brother-in-law had what the surgeon called a cardiac death. He died instantly sitting in a chair at home in South Carolina. My sister acted quickly and pulled him down to the floor and began chest compressions. She stopped for about 30 seconds to run next door to her neighbors house who is a cardiac nurse where she did her thing until EMS arrived.
EMS had to use the paddles 3 times to bring him back and was transported to the local hospital until he was stable before he was transported to Charleston South Carolina the following day. On Sunday 07/07/2024 he underwent surgery for an aortic valve replacement and to repair the heart where it actually blew out.
I left Florida on Friday 07/05/2024 to come up and help out so I've been pretty busy lately. And just so everyone knows he is unvaccinated and according to the surgeon he has a very positive outlook for the future. The surgery went well and took approximately 7 hours to perform.
Everything is good but certainly has been a trying time.
You never know when your time is up and I'm grateful Mike chose to live after his experience. He will have some rehabilitation to go through and be off work for about 3 months or so... It will be his choice from here on how long it takes.
Life is about choices, it's about changing our thinking and taking care of ourselves first and foremost because if we are not doing good for ourselves, how can we possibly be good for anyone else. The time is now for change. Start with yourself. Because the only one you can change... Is YOU! 🤔

NEW ENTRY ON MY BLOG!
On October 29, 1996, Demri passed away of acute intoxication caused by the combined effects of opiate, meprobamate, and butalbital when she was only 27.
Demri and Layne in the Spring of 1990 by Krista Kay.
Her last few years, since around Thanksgiving 1993, her health began taking a turn for the worse. She told her mother she had been having fevers in excess of a hundred degrees. Austin told Demri the next time it happened, she should go to the hospital. The first of many hospitalizations happened shortly after. “She came in to the hospital for the first time at the end of November of ‘93. She was in until January of ‘94. She got out and was back in in March of ‘94 and at that time put on life support,” Austin recalled. “When she would be in, she would come in to the emergency room. They would admit her up into a medicine floor; then she’d go from the medicine floor to the Intensive Care Unit and life support, and then she wouldn’t die. So she’d go back to the medicine floor – she’d be on IV and antibiotics for a month. This went on and on and on. She had her lungs operated on twice. She had her heart operated on twice [she had a heart valve repaired and another replaced and the pacemaker implanted age 26]. She suffered miserably.” [1]
Jacque: “She was very sick in the end. She’d had open heart surgery and had nerve damage to her feet which were mostly numb. She had no body fat at all, and was cold all the time. Often the car’s heater would be on full blast, even on a nice day, everyone would be sweating and she’d be shivering and wearing a sweater.” [2]
According to Amber Ferrano, Dave Navarro was the one who brought up the endocarditis . They had the doctors check and found it on the back of Demri’s heart valve.
Demri with Dave Navarro ca. 1994 in a medical facility.
Amber Ferrano: “Dave was my go-to person as someone who had kicked to help Layne and Demri when various things came up with them regarding drugs because they had used with him in the past when Jane’s Addiction came through town and now clean. Dave was their inspiration. He was in AA, and though they didn’t believe in AA they loved him, he was non-jugemental and kind. They really wanted to show him they could get clean. Bob Timmins helped too. They thought if lifers could get clean because of him there was hope.
Dave was the one who brought up the endocarditis, asking if that is what she had. It was the first time we heard of it. All those times in the hospital. They ended up finding it on the back of her heart valve.”
While in the ICU, Austin said Demri was conscious but intubated – she had a tube inserted down her throat to help her breathe, which she despised. She would tell her mother, “I hate being fucking intubated. I can’t talk, and these people come and they ask me these fucking questions, and I can’t fucking talk, and I feel like a fucking fish in a fucking fishbowl.” She communicated by writing on a small blackboard with a piece of chalk. [1]
Despite the multiple hospitalizations and brushes with death, Demri continued using drugs. She had seemingly accepted that her addiction was going to kill her.
Amber Ferrano: “I brought mortuary books in to Demri at the hospital when Layne got back from New York in April of 1996. I, of course, shocked Demri and said I thought we could go coffin shopping. Of course when Layne got there she told on me. When she first saw them she was balling saying she didn’t want to die. Layne talked about all the issues. I said you have to be clean to fix those issues and they get less and less. The thing with them was people waiting outside their home with drugs as a way to befriend them or mailing it to them. It killed Layne when he got letters about people using. He didn’t write to glorify it, it was cathartic to work his way through it."
Barbara Dearaujo: “She was in and out of the hospital for months at a time before she actually passed away. I would go visit her and she had all the nurses going crazy. She put up all her drawings and flowers all over the walls and did things she wasn’t supposed to do like take off with her IV and go out and smoke. She was a wild child... My heart goes out to her mom. She was a good mother and she tried so hard to help Demri, but Demri was her own woman and she lived in the extreme always. She was a broken child. Grasping for something to relieve some deep pain that no one but her knew.”
One of the last photos of Demri alive, as far as her mum knew. Demri and her mum Kathleen on September 1996. Kathleen sent this photo to Memories of Demri instagram (no longer exists).
Donald John: “I was very close with Demri Parrott, knew her during her last year of life. I met her at the hospital through a friend and became very close to her. I used to visit her a lot while in the hospital, and we had some very deep spiritual conversations about everything, including her relationship with Layne from the start to the end. She even gave me a pair of sunglasses that was his. I used to read books to her and let her borrow a lot of my books, especially art books, to keep her busy. I used to hold her while she cried and watched her while she slept. I used to go outside with her when she wanted to smoke and when she was feeling better to walk, and met her mother. I even got to check out her mother’s home which had a lot of pictures of Demri of her modeling days and stuff. Sometimes on her breaks she would come to my apartment that was like 5 min walk away from the hospital. She would come over and we would do heroin together and paint pictures with my art supplies, sitting Indian style on the floor listening to music. Then when she was released from the hospital she stayed with me for a while in my place and even slept in the same bed with me, we never had sexual relations but were deep friends and something more. She and Layne at the time were pretty much over even though he visited her while in the hospital. Sometimes we would cuddle in bed and she was so skinny. When she would leave to do her errands around town she would sometimes come back with gifts, like one time I got a cool wallet from her and a necklace with an angel on it – at the time I had my first tattoo of an angel on my forearm. When me and Demri first met I was just smoking heroin, then I started shooting and when she found out she was very upset. Time had passed and I saw her frequently. Then I found out about her death.” [2]
The other of the last photos of Demri alive, as far as her mum knew. Demri and her mum Kathleen on September 1996. Kathleen sent this photo to Memories of Demri instagram (no longer exists).
Ryan Kalsbeck:“Demri was staying for a bit with me at my old apartment off 45th and Lake City Way, we had been friends for years by this point but her addiction was sad for me to see. We had long serious conversations about a lot of things. Personal, to say the least. But she always carried her Leather Modeling Portfolio with her everywhere she would go or where she was staying, but she made me promise to please hold on to this portfolio for her and don’t let anyone around it or in it and she would eventually have a solid place to bring it to and for safe keeping. I never let one picture wander off into anyone ever. I promised Demri I would guard it and I knew how important this was to her fading life. She was so afraid of loosing this or someone stealing it, probably swiping rare as f*ck photos of her and Layne, stacks of the two in different vintage clothing. But I had her portfolio in my possession for at least 1 year, and one day like normal she left my apartment and I was still sleeping. Said, ‘I’ll see you at the Off Ramp later tonight.’ I wasn’t surprised to not run into her that night, and this was one of the last times of her disappearing, no one hearing from her for months at a time. But she always popped up at someone’s place eventually. The story is deep, and thick, and personal for me to speak of.”
Terri Brannon: “Last time I saw her, I went over to Carolina Court to say goodbye because I was moving back to Arkansas. I had a very sad feeling when I hugged her. I knew in my heart I’d never see her again. She was so full of life back then. A wild gypsy child. Reminded me of myself many years before. It’s been years and years, but you never forget Demri. She is unforgettable.” [2]
Demri's graveyard at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bremerton, Washington, USA
During her final days, Demri was staying with an older man named Tom, the father of a friend of hers, at his place in Bothell. According to Amber Ferrano, he was a drug dealer, Demri was staying with him because he had klonopin so she wouldn’t have seizures. Demri had lived something of a nomadic existence, staying with different people for periods of a few days to a few weeks at a time. Toward the end of her life, it became very difficult for her to find a place to stay.
On the afternoon of October 28, 1996, Tom drove Demri into Seattle. She told him she wanted a few things from a Fred Meyer grocery store. When he arrived at the store, Demri was unconscious, and he couldn’t wake her. He went into the store to pick up her things, leaving the car engine running so she wouldn’t get cold. He came out of the store, drove home, and still couldn’t wake her. He left her in the car unconscious so he could do his laundry. He eventually realized something was seriously wrong.
Demri was eventually brought in to the emergency room at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland at 7:30 P.M. – two and a half hours after she first lost consciousness. Her mother got a phone call from the hospital, telling her Demri was there.
Kathleen asked the doctors if Demri could hear her. The doctors told her they thought she could. She clutched Demri’s hand and said, “Dem, if you have a choice to stay or to go, you don’t have to stay for me anymore.” During previous hospitalizations, she had always told her to fight, to to survive. This time was different. [1]
Jack Plasky: “The first time I met Layne was when he came by my studio after Demri passed. We hung out for about six or seven hours. We went through Demri’s pictures. We did not talk much, it was more like sharing with me his pain. He was not a rock god that day, just a regular person who wanted to share the loss with each other. We had a very strong bond based on our love and caring for Demri, and her feelings for us. I got a strong true feeling from him when he looked at Demri’s pictures, that life held nothing for him anymore.”
Ariel Layton: “Demri used to spend a lot of time with my girlfriend, Jana. She actually passed away in my friend Tom’s truck. I also ended up couch-surfing at Buddah’s around the same time as Layne shortly after she passed. He had photos of her everywhere, it was very sad.”
Kathleen Austin: “Derek loved Dem so much and nothing she did would ever change that. He spoke at her funeral, ‘If my sister got on the ferry in Seattle, she knew everyone on the boat by the time it reached Bremerton’.”
Clay: “Demri, it’s been 13 years [March, 2009] since you went to be with Jesus and I still miss you so much sweetie. I’m so glad we got to share all the time with each other before you left us. When we prayed and talked about Heaven and The Lord, it still makes me think about how I look forward to seeing you again and being with you forever. I hope all the world knows you are with Christ now and your faith in Him, so they can have the same hope we shared. I’ll always treasure your Bible your grandma gave me, until we are together again. Love you always, Clay.”

Carolyn Hart Gutierrez: “She was one of the most amazingly trusting, compassionate, openhearted persons I’ve ever known, albeit briefly. We went to the same high school, and she was a friend of my younger sister. I have often thought about her over the years. It broke my heart to hear that she was gone from this Earth. I always imagined that she grew up and became a happy little momma who would teach her children to believe in magic and that if you wish on a star your wish will come true, and to dance in the rain. That’s what I believe. Demri may be gone, but she is never forgotten.” [2]
Krisha Augerot: "She was like the sweetest, cutest, tiny hippie chick – just adorable and gorgeous. Never would I have ever imagined what happened to her happening".
Mara Whelan: “My dear soul sister, she extracted the truly beautiful parts of my soul and made me unafraid. She brought light into the depths of darkness from within. She loved all my ugliness and glorified my uniqueness.
Demri and I lived together, slept together as sister spoons, hitchhiked all up and down the coast and back and forth to Seattle from Everett a million times. We lived in Seattle together in multiple places. When we didn’t live together, even when the drugs came into play, we never lost each other.
She was the most beautiful soul that ever existed. What I would do to feel her hand in mine again.”
Barbara Dearaujo: “Demri was an artist herself, a model and someone who could always make you laugh. She was the type of person who when she entered a room full of people all eyes would be on her. She sucked the energy from the room and then blasted it back out at you and made you laugh and smile. She was so different than everyone else and everyone knew it who met her. Geeky, funny, caring, talented and unique girl who could of owned the world if she had not got caught up in what was going on around her. She was a star in her own right.”

TYPES OF HEART DISEASE
Heart disease encompasses a wide range of cardiovascular problems. Various conditions fall under the heart disease umbrella, each affecting the heart or blood vessels in distinct ways. Understanding these types can help in recognizing symptoms early and seeking appropriate treatment. This article explores the primary types of heart disease, their causes, and potential treatments.
1. Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
Overview:
Coronary Artery Disease is the most common type of heart disease. CAD occurs when the coronary arteries, responsible for supplying blood to the heart muscle, become hardened and narrowed due to the buildup of cholesterol and other materials, known as plaque, on their inner walls. This process is called atherosclerosis.
Symptoms:
Chest pain (angina)
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Treatment:
Treatments include lifestyle changes, medication, and possibly procedures like angioplasty or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
2. Heart Arrhythmias
Overview:
Arrhythmias are irregular heartbeats. The heart can beat too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia), or irregularly. This can be due to a fault in the heart’s electrical system.
Symptoms:
Palpitations
Dizziness
Fainting
Treatment:
Treatment might involve medications, lifestyle adjustments, and in some cases, implantable devices like pacemakers or procedures like catheter ablation.
3. Heart Valve Disease
Overview:
The heart contains four valves: the tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, and aortic valves. These valves open and close to direct blood flow through the heart. Valve disease occurs when one or more of these valves do not function properly.
Symptoms:
Fatigue
Swollen ankles or feet
Shortness of breath
Treatment:
Treatment may include medication, surgical repair, or valve replacement depending on the severity and specific type of valve disease.
4. Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
Overview:
Heart failure, sometimes known as congestive heart failure, occurs when the heart can’t pump blood as well as it should. This can result from any condition that damages the heart muscle, including CAD, high blood pressure, and heart valve disease.
Symptoms:
Shortness of breath
Persistent coughing or wheezing
Swelling in legs, ankles, and feet
Treatment:
Managing heart failure involves a combination of lifestyle changes, medications, and possibly surgery or devices like ventricular assist devices (VADs) or implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
5. Cardiomyopathy
Overview:
Cardiomyopathy refers to diseases of the heart muscle. These diseases enlarge or make the heart muscle rigid and more prone to arrhythmias.
Symptoms:
Breathlessness
Swelling of the legs
Fatigue
Treatment:
Treatment focuses on controlling symptoms and may include medications, lifestyle modifications, or devices to help the heart pump more effectively.
6. Congenital Heart Defects
Overview:
Congenital heart defects are structural problems with the heart present from birth. They can involve the walls of the heart, the valves of the heart, and the arteries and veins near the heart.
Symptoms:
Symptoms vary widely and can include cyanosis (a bluish tint to the skin, lips, and fingernails), breathing difficulties, and fatigue.
Treatment:
Treatment depends on the type and severity of the defect and may involve medication, catheter procedures, or surgery.
Conclusion
Heart disease is a broad term that covers various conditions affecting the heart’s structure and function. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of these different types can lead to early diagnosis and treatment, significantly improving quality of life and outcomes for those affected. Regular check-ups and conversations with healthcare providers about heart health can help individuals understand their risks and take proactive steps towards heart disease prevention.

Robotic Heart Bypass Surgery vs. Traditional Bypass Surgery
Bypass surgery is a common procedure to improve blood flow to the heart. Traditionally, bypass surgery is performed through a large incision in the chest, which allows the surgeon to access the heart and create new pathways for blood to flow around blocked arteries. However, technological advances have made it possible to perform bypass surgery using robotic-assisted techniques. In this article, we’ll explore the differences between robotic heart bypass surgery and traditional heart bypass surgery and help you decide which is best for you.
Approach to the Heart
In traditional bypass surgery, the surgeon typically makes a large incision in the chest to access the heart. This incision can be several inches long and may result in significant scarring. In contrast, robotic heart bypass surgery uses smaller incisions that allow the surgeon to access the heart with greater precision and control. This minimally invasive approach can result in less pain, reduced scarring, and faster recovery times for the patient.
Incision Size
The incisions used in robotic heart bypass surgery or Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery are typically much smaller than those used in traditional bypass surgery. In robotic heart bypass surgery, the surgeon makes several small incisions in the chest, each less than an inch long. These small incisions allow the surgical instruments to be inserted into the chest cavity and access the heart. Smaller incisions can reduce the risk of infection, reduce bleeding and scarring, and may result in a faster recovery.
Use of Robotics
Using robotics in heart bypass surgery allows for greater precision and control during the procedure. Robotic surgical systems use advanced computer technology and surgical instruments to perform minimally invasive procedures. In robotic heart bypass surgery, the surgeon operates the robotic instruments using a console, which provides a magnified 3D view of the surgical site. This level of precision and control can lead to better outcomes, faster recovery times, and fewer complications for the patient.
Surgical Tools
The surgical tools used in robotic heart bypass surgery are specialized instruments designed to be controlled by the robotic surgical system. These tools are typically smaller and more precise than traditional surgical instruments, allowing for greater accuracy during the procedure. Additionally, the robotic system allows the surgeon to manipulate the surgical tools with greater dexterity and control, resulting in more precise and less traumatic surgery.
Viewing
Robotic heart bypass surgery provides the surgeon with a magnified 3D view of the surgical site, which can help with precision and control during the procedure. The surgeon views the surgical site on a console, which displays a high-definition, 3D image of the heart and surrounding tissue. This view allows the surgeon to see the heart and surrounding structures in greater detail, which can aid in identifying and correcting blockages. Additionally, the magnified view can help the surgeon avoid damaging surrounding tissue or organs, reducing the risk of complications and improving outcomes for the patient.
Surgeon’s Control
In robotic heart bypass surgery, the surgeon operates the surgical instruments through a console in the operating room. This console allows the surgeon to control the robotic arms’ movement, translating the surgeon’s movements into precise actions inside the patient’s body. The console provides the surgeon with a magnified 3D view of the surgical site, enabling the surgeon to perform delicate maneuvers with greater accuracy and control. While the surgeon is not physically in contact with the surgical instruments, the robotic system provides the precision that is difficult to achieve with traditional bypass surgery.
Recovery Time
Recovery time for traditional bypass surgery can be several weeks, depending on the extent of the surgery and the patient’s overall health. In contrast, recovery time for robotic heart bypass surgery is generally shorter. Patients who undergo robotic heart bypass surgery typically experience less pain, bleeding, and scarring, which can help speed up recovery. Additionally, because robotic heart bypass surgery is less invasive, patients may be able to return to their normal activities sooner than those who undergo traditional bypass surgery.
Risks and Complications
Both traditional bypass surgery and robotic heart bypass surgery carry risks and complications. These risks can include bleeding, infection, heart attack, stroke, and damage to surrounding tissues or organs. While robotic heart bypass surgery is considered safe and effective, it is still a relatively new technology, and long-term outcomes are not yet fully understood. Patients should discuss the risks and benefits of each procedure with their surgeon to determine which option is best for them.
Cost
Robotic heart bypass surgery is typically more expensive than traditional bypass surgery. The cost of robotic heart bypass surgery includes using the robotic system and specialized surgical instruments and the additional training and expertise required to perform the procedure. While robotic heart bypass surgery may be more expensive, some patients may find that the benefits of a less invasive procedure, faster recovery time, and potentially better outcomes are worth the additional cost.
Suitability for Patients
Not all patients are suitable candidates for robotic heart bypass surgery. Patients with severe heart disease or multiple blockages may require more extensive surgery, which may be better suited for traditional bypass surgery. Additionally, patients who have undergone previous heart surgery or who have other health conditions that make them high-risk may not be candidates for robotic heart bypass surgery. Patients should discuss their medical history, current health status, and treatment options with their surgeons to determine the best procedure. Ultimately, the decision to undergo traditional or robotic heart bypass surgery should be made on a case-by-case basis, considering the patient’s unique circumstances, preferences, and medical needs.
