A Quest
Tumblr media
I hereby propose a quest for all Dagur fans. It begins with watching every episode of Rob/Dob and then RTTE. During this time, you pay an unhealthy amount of attention to every Dagur scene, probably memorizing a few too many lines along the way that you will inevitably think throughout daily life, thinking them only so that no one gives you weird looks.
Next, once all canon material is consumed, you look up his voice actor, David Faustino, and watch Married...With Children. Doing so will let you know how little Dagur would actually sound in the fanfics when he is a child. You will also have a very happy moment since the Bud Bundy character has a scene with knife early on and you'll only be able to imagine him in Viking attire and with red hair since this is clearly Dagur in real life form.
The Faustino exploration doesn't end there because phase 3 involves thinking about what Dagur would do in real life, including what music he would enjoy. After listening to David's "I Told Ya," you'll be able to hear Dagur rapping which is just as odd yet fun as it sounds.
You're getting closer to the end of your journey, so you begin reading and writing Dagur fanfics that explore his psyche and relationships. You probably also begin making some posts here on Tumblr to bring more love his way. Yes, you're overthinking just about everything you've ever seen or heard that involves him, but this can be practice for writing essays and creating debates backed with evidence.
Afterwards, you begin making fanart that is surprisingly more difficult to do than expected, but the time is worth it. Even if trying to figure out how to draw him in different stages of his life make you a little deranged too, the finished result still makes you pretty happy.
The last step...finding a Dagur in your life. Probably don't do this since I didn't specify good or bad and the latter would be very dangerous. If you can find a good one, well done. I'm both happy for and jealous of you. I'm stuck at phase 5, so please share your secrets.

I remember watching Riders of Berk for the first time and when Heather showed up I was absolutely convinced I was going to hate her
And then by the time I finished Race to the Edge I absolutely loved her so much 😭

Thinking about Dagur’s redemption arc in Httyd Race to the Edge series and how it is done so differently to other arcs from other shows: -Dagur does not require help from the protagonist to start to change in comparison to others of his type. They usually require exposure or some influence from the "nice guys" to change, but this is not the case with him. -He doesn’t exactly have a tragic backstory nor he was controlled/abused since he was younger (unless you count how he was betrayed by the dragon hunters in Season 2) -Meaning that he doesn’t come off as ¨sympathetic¨ unlike other characters you know that they will eventually get redemmed on the long run. -When he appears again after Season 2 finale, the focus is on how he is trying to change and how has he changed. - At least in the Enemy of My Enemy episode, he doesn't ask Hippup to trust him or to give him a new chance, in fact, when Hippup asks him why he should believe him, Dagur tells him that he shouldn't since he "doesn't deserve it" due to his previous actions. -He decided to change for the better because he thought it would be the best for him, regardless of whether Hippup or any of the other dragon riders helped him or not. -There isn’t a moment he asks Hiccup any favor in exchange for saving him in ¨Enemy of my Enemy¨. He, however, does ask for his help to find Heather in a later episode. -Even after the team believes that he is lying about how they are about to fall into a trap and put him behind bars in "Family on the Edge", he still tries to help them and almost loses his life when trying to stop the trap. -While i have some issues regarding how some things seems to get retconned, Dagur tries compensating the pain that he caused to Heather by offering her a place to stay in Berserker Island and teaching about her Berserker culture.

Wanted to share some of my Vigcup headcanons with you:
Hiccup seems the type that would subconsciously move closer to Viggo as protection, and vice versa Viggo leaning closer to Hiccup for protection.
Kind of like if you have been in a situation where you feel threatened by someone and just subconsciously walk or lean towards someone trusting.
Viggo has two dragons: the monstrous nightmare that saved him and the Skrill. Similar to Dagur but Viggo rarely rides a dragon unless called for.
Hiccup becomes that drill Sargent partner. Like the type of partners that would yell you to “get back in line”.
If the series had the same budget as the movie, I’d imagine Viggo, besides being the business man that he is, being more militarian and much more aggressive than the series.
The Dragon Hunters would likely have the largest ships and probably the most ships of the archipelago. (Viggo deserves his shine in a cinematic way)
Hiccup learned battle strategies from Viggo during their rivalry. Which also ends up with Berkians being unsure about Hiccup becoming their chief if his strategies seemed untraditional/unconventional, especially now they have dragons being involved. This is putting Hiccup to the test if he is worthy of becoming a chief. (Sorry I’ve learned some things in Art History to come up with headcanon) Note: (Headcanon) I don’t think the Berkians are gonna switch up to liking Dragons, especially when they were at war with each other for decades.
I have another headcanon but it’s a bit sad. So if you’d like to hear it, let me know.
Ooooooh, I like these. Hiccup being the drill Sergeant partner is funny. (It’s like how I’m the “make sure everyone gets out of bed on time for work” partner).
And yes!!! I can definitely see Hiccup picking up battle strategies from Viggo, intentionally or not.
Also, RTTE with a higher rating/higher budget is a dream. It’s a very good dream. Give me bloody Vigcup or give me death! (Autoimmune system, don’t take that seriously.)
Totally feel free to send the sad one! I’m open to it!

a little httyd & rtte rant:
Tumblr media
ok watching race to the edge for the 1 millionth time and i’m doing some thinking.
first of all:
this is still one of my favorite shows ever and it’s an underrated masterpiece—every story beat is so well crafted.
if you watched the httyd movies and asked yourself: ok, how did we get here? what happened in those 5 years? why are hiccup and astrid suddenly in a long-term relationship, who are gobber and stoic’s dragons, why is berk so different, why does he have a flaming sword and flight suit?
well—they made a show abt all of that.
secondly:
i like the way the main cast is portrayed in this show WAY more than in the movies.
i just did a marathon of the movies and toothless and hiccup are really the only two to have ample screen time—i get it, they’re the main characters that’s the point—but the beauty of rtte is that with six seasons they are able to feature everyone equally and do.
i love the relationship development between hiccup and astrid too ofc!!!!
the twins, snotlout, and fishlegs are fully fleshed out characters and i’m reveling in it. they all have such great chemistry with each other and it’s so fun to watch.
thirdly:
i think the villains in rtte are farrr more compelling than the movie villains.
vigo is one of the best tv villains ever imo and the twists and turns the show takes when he is in power is so entertaining and engaging (he's literally a cockroach and won't leave/die). i love and hate him and you never know if you can trust him or not!!!! GAH THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD
lastly:
Tumblr media
holyyyy shit why isn’t heather in the movies?? her and dagur making a cameo would’ve astronomically altered my brain chemistry—mae whitman deserved to be in the movies. heather as a character is so interesting--as well as her and dagurs’s relationship (what a redemption arc holy shit). their character development is impeccable. + fishlegs and heather are so made for each other that deserved to have made it into at LEAST one movie (and let's be real her and astrid def were a thing at one point).
closing remarks:
WATCH THIS SHOW WATCH THIS SHOW!!!!!
tuff and ruff are slowly becoming my favorites tbh
i miss this show!! watching it as it came out was so fun.
hiccup and astrid have my heart
david tennent you are everywhere

Daggers & Daffodils Chap.27
Dagur x Reader
Heads
You stood looking up at Dagur, who was eerily serious. Now painfully aware of how alone you were with Heather now gone. Taking his hand off your mouth he grabbed both of your shoulders, turning you around to face the door, "Open it".
Slowly you opened the door, to be met with an assault of bouquets, laid about the room. "I didn't know if your favorites changed so I got the old ones, but I figured I would splurge a little". "Umm-", "Do you like it?" he pressed, walking the two of you inside.
"I know you and I got into a little.... couples quarrel. And your brother stole you away before we could make up, buuuut, we're here now" he said, uncomfortably chipper. "You understand I ran away, right? It's important to me that you can comprehend that" Dagur's expression lost some of its intensity, a mask over what you would assume was irritation and annoyance. "I do" his arm wrapped around you pushing the both of you in, closing the door, "It's only natural that you wouldn't wat to see me after our first argument".
"First?" Dagur continued to push you forward ignoring your relentless sarcasm. "You should have seen the look on Heather's face when I told her we were engaged" he laughed, "She was all like; You tried to kill her! Didn't she throw you in prison?!".
"It works out perfectly don't you think? You always wanted a sister, and I've always wanted a brother". You drag a hand down your face, frustrated, "Dagur, we've done this, had this conversation, countless times. I am not going to marry you". Dagur sat on the bed with a huff looking at you "And I've told you not to say that unless you mean it" Odin's beard, he was thick. How many times were you going to have to drill it into him that unless he were to make some serious changes, namely, stop trying to kill your brother, you were never going to marry him.
Wait, no. No, you were never going to, no ifs and or buts. You have no idea why your brain kept holding out hope for him. He certainly didn't deserve it. Not after everything he did to Berk, dragons, and your friends. "Couples are supposed to have rough patches. What matters is that we make it through them".
"We are not a couple" Dagur's nostrils flare, "And if you care half as much as you say you do, you'll let me g--". "Let you go? The last time I saw you with them you were stuck against a wall unable to breathe, with no one to help you because they were too distracted by Heather".
"They wouldn't have been distracted if you hadn't destroyed her village" you retorted. "A sibling matter that they had no right to intervene in" Dagur crossed his arms. "She was going to kill you!".
"And why didn't you let her, it would have solved your issue, and you would never have to worry about marrying you again" you couldn't believe that this was his argument. You stopped Heather from killing him because you didn't want her to have to live with killing her brother and only living relative on her conscious, "I did it for her! Not you!".
"Well, she doesn't seem so mad at me now does she?" it was said almost like a jab at you. Oh, you wanted to hit him in the face. "You are the most infuriating, deranged, delusional, man I have ever met". Dagur's smile returned full force at your insult.
Tails
Dagur was ecstatic when he saw you caught by the dragon hunters. First his sister returns to his side and tells him she wants to be a family and rebuild their tribe. Then he finds out that not only you, but your annoying friends fell directly into their trap. It was too good to be true. Dagur had been reeling over the last time you had had spoken. Sure, you had briefly talked on the ship when Heather was trying to kill him, but you were a bit preoccupied with your panic attack.
Gods he wanted to strangle Hiccup for that. He took his heart, world, and very purpose of existence into a battle that very well could have killed her. And chose to prioritize the life of his enemy over his own sister. It didn't matter if her life wasn't immediately or directly being threatened, the fat that he chose to barter with Heather instead of rushing to your side had him steaming.
He was honestly lucky that Heather had chosen to come to him after he had managed to calm down, or he might have done something he would regret. It wasn't her fault; it was in their Berserker nature to seek revenge and act deranged and unhinged. Besides, she didn't end up doing it, a true testament to their sibling bond.
Seeing you outside of that cell talking with his sister- no. Your sister was euphoric. He was finally going to get his ideal family. You had left off on a rather sour note, when Hiccup took you away before you could talk it out. So, he had every intention of doing damage control as quickly as possible.
He had made sure not to hold back any punches, flooding your shared room with your favorite flowers, he knew it wouldn't fix the problem or erase the issue, but it showed that he cared. After all, this was his goal. To be able to work out this little argument in a healthy and normal way. Couples fight all the time, he thought. So, it's good that they learn to work through it now.
He had seen his parents fight when he was younger, and before he met you, he had thought that it was stupid to fall in love if it was all fighting and touching faces, ah how young and naive he was. He had been a gentleman in your argument so far. He hadn't yelled at you when you called him crazy and swore you would never be with him. In fact, he had been considerate enough to give the both of you space and time to cool off. And it was working, Dagur had calmed down and was fully ready to find common ground with you when, Hiccup happened. But never mind that. The past is the past and he was fully ready to make up for it.
"You understand I ran away, right? It's important to me that you can comprehend that" Did it insult him that you thought him so oblivious and blinded by obsession to know to your emotions and feelings? A little.
"It's only natural that you wouldn't wat to see me after our first argument" he led you away from the door, he attempted to get you to sit, but it was clear that you were too worked up. Choosing to sit down and let you follow when you felt like it he let you lead the conversation. Dagur had gotten his chance to let out his frustrations with the situation, and he could imagine that you were stuck stewing over it all. Besides, knowing his temper, it was only a matter of time before he got to that point too.
"Dagur, we've done this, had this conversation, countless times. I am not going to marry you" Dagur held back a wince as he felt a vein somewhere in his body burst. Gods, he hated it when you said that. The very topic that started the argument.  "And I've told you not to say that unless you mean it" he knew you didn't. The first time you had said it was with far more conviction, and each time you did was with less and less.
Dagur watched as your face twisted, irritated and spiteful. Before it began to subside, no doubt our mind either self-directing or reasoning, perhaps both. "Couples are supposed to have rough patches. What matters is that we make it through them".
"We are not a couple" Dagur felt his face twitch. You know what, he didn't have to yell at you to get his point across. He may be known for being deranged, but he's also smart. Why not put it to good use.
"And if you care half as much as you say you do, you'll let me g--". "Let you go? The last time I saw you with them you were stuck against a wall unable to breathe, with no one to help you because they were too distracted by Heather". He almost felt bad as he watched your eyes and widen in shock and embarrassment. Almost.
"They wouldn't have been distracted if you hadn't destroyed her village" there she was, his spitfire. He was hoping that this wouldn't be one-sided, "A sibling matter that they had no right to intervene in".
Your eyes narrowed; he loved it when you got like this. When your eyes were focused on him and only him. Was it healthy, absolutely not. But nothing about him was.
"She was going to kill you!" gods you were cute when you were mad, if he had known it would be so much fun to go back and forth with you, he would have escalated it sooner. Besides, what was a more Berserker way of ending a lovers quarrel than venting until you were exhausted. Odin knows you needed it. Stuck on Berk and wherever your little hideout was, unable to so much as raise your voice, too concerned with others. He'd fix that. You would be the perfect Berserker queen. Unafraid of speaking your mind and never forced to hold back any anger you had.
"And why didn't you let her, it would have solved your issue, and you would never have to worry about marrying you again" a bit below the belt considering how torn up you were visibly about constantly having your morals split between him and your 'friends'. "I did it for her! Not you!".
Noble as ever, putting others before yourself. Never allowing yourself to be happy. It was the reason you continued to relent against being with him. Conditioned by your family and friends to prioritize your people, friends, strangers, and even beastly dragons over yourself.
"Well, she doesn't seem so mad at me now does she?" that's when he saw it, your tipping point, you were livid, looking at him with years of pent-up self-loathing, grief, anger, everything. You looked ready to strike him, by the gods he would let you. He loved it when you got determined, especially when it was demanding in some way. Huh, he should probably look into that and make sure it's some sort of psychological defect instead of anything.....else.
"You are the most infuriating, deranged, delusional, man I have ever met". Dagur's smile returned full force at your insult. You snapped, you got an inch from his face and finally said everything you felt about him. "Took you long enough!" Dagur launched up from the bed wrapping you in a bear hug and spinning you around once. Both knocking the anger out of you and replacing it with bewilderment and confusion.
And leaving you to wonder what the hell just happened.

Fav Dagcup dynamic is probably power-bottom Hiccup and service-top Dagur.
I love the idea of Hiccup surprising him by being more dominant and demanding, like Dagur is so needy and Hiccup would tease him. He deserves it after years of feeling powerless against Dagur honestly. And considering Dagur’s crush seemingly began when he saw Hiccup being a badass ‘dragon hunter’ I think he would definitely appreciate that vibe.
…..I just love Hiccup being fucked as well.

Still working on a title for this - just wrote it spontaneously because if I didn't the ideas would evaporate. I'll probably post a more polished version on AO3 soon. TW for implied references to sexual assault:
When Dagur saw him in the marketplace, his heart stopped. He thought he was going to die. Then a moment later, his heart was racing. He fought for breath, and though he inhaled and exhaled at a rapid speed, he felt like he was suffocating. One moment, he was standing, and then next, he was on the ground, propped up against a stall while his sister spoke gently to him.
Was he alright? What happened? Who was that man?
Dagur couldn't speak. But the look in his eye was enough for Heather to understand. The pain, the shame, it was all clear as day. They'd spoken about this man before.
As soon as realization struck her, Heather was standing, hand on her weapon, knuckles white with fury.
No, Dagur pleaded, uncharacteristically shying away from conflict. He wanted to leave this behind, to forget.
The man was already disappearing into the crowd. He hadn't noticed them and whistled contentedly as he went about his errands. Heather seethed. The monster had ruined her brother's life and had the gall to walk around in the sunlight, enjoying a life he didn't deserve. But her brother's eyes called her back from her rage. He needed her now. The destroyer could wait...for the time being.
Arne was intrigued by the maiden with the raven hair the second their eyes met. The tavern was dark and loud, but through the shadows and above the din, something about her called to him. She didn't shy away from him the way other women and many of the younger men did. Perhaps she wasn't aware of his history, of his former occupation as a prison guard. All the better, he thought. When she approached him, he felt like a wolf being courted by a deer–for she was almost fawn-like, with slender limbs and an innocent face; by the end of the night, he would find that he was sorely mistaken.
By the time they arrived to his quarters, Arne was full of ale, boisterous and slurring. He didn't usually drink so much when looking for someone to take to his bed, but he found the maiden's constant urges to drink irresistible.
A little more? She'd ask with a small smile. Her lashes batted familiar green eyes as she poured him another tankard. Gods, you could beat Aegir at drinking couldn't you?
Hells yes, he thought. Though as he stumbled to his room above the tavern, he wondered if perhaps he'd had a little too much. Though it didn't seem to matter. This one clearly wanted him and wouldn't put up a fight.
When they collapsed onto his bed, the raven-haired maiden told him that she had a surprise for him. Close your eyes, she said softly. He chuckled and did as he was told, savouring the image of those enthralling green eyes. Some thing about them was so familiar...
And it didn't occur to him until it was too late.
By the time he opened his own eyes again to gaze into hers, she'd driven a needle of Speedstinger venom into his neck. She was out of reach as his hands made their last panicked movements in her direction. Then he was frozen still.
Arne, she crooned, head titled to the side, I've heard so much about you.
Arne tried to speak but could only moan. His strangled voice sounded alien to his own ears.
The raven-haired woman loomed over him, holding a knife in her hand. Some small part of him hoped that this was some sort of game: perhaps she was the type who enjoyed pain and pleasure as a pair...but in truth, he knew better.
What do you want with me? He tried to say, but the words stuck in the back of his sluggish mouth.
The woman seemed to understand.
I came to give you a little greeting from one of your former inmates.
The hairs on the back of his neck raised.
Dagur the Deranged...I'm sure you remember him?
Arne searched his memories, trying to recall...he'd seen so many...he'd taken so many. Had it been the angry young one with red hair and...yes. Those green eyes. The same ones staring back at him now. All the seduction had faded away. Her hatred brought out the resemblance.
My brother, the woman said through gritted teeth. I know what you did to him. She leaned closer and brought her mouth to his ear. She dragged her blade lightly down his abdomen and ended between his legs. I'm going to make sure you never do it to anyone again.
Arne tried to shake his head, to kick his legs, to scream. Nothing happened.
And honestly Arne, depending on my mood...The woman raised a brow. When I'm finished, there might not be enough of you left to do anything at all.

not me giving up for rn on the current scene and writing ahead to try and get ideas. could never be me fr fr.
“Berk gave up on you, you know?”
Hiccup freezes and slowly takes a step nearer to where Dagur is sitting behind bars. He tilts his head and makes a questioning noise in the back of his throat. Dagur continues.
“Not Astrid or Snotface. But the rest. I mean, you got declared dead and I never saw any of the rest of them actually looking for you.”
Hiccup is not sure if Dagur is trying to hurt him with these words or if it is just an attempt to keep him from leaving. If it is the first, it is a failure. If it is the second, it most definitely is working. Hiccup shifts to crouch down far out of reach of the bars. He breathes deeply and then grins at Dagur.
“Good. Berk showing up would be more disruptive than your arrival. I don't want them here. I like being a Grimborn over being a Haddock.”
He touches the statue of Frigga and then shows his teeth. Dagur tilts his head and gives his own feral grin.
“So you finally realize that they don't deserve you.”
The response takes Hiccup back and makes him feel off balance. He shakes his head with a confused snort.
“My brothers deserve me and want me. Berk did not want me. And you wanted me dead.”
Dagur blinks and frowns.
“I never wanted you dead! Why would I want that?”
“You literally tried to drown me.”
“No. I wasn't trying to drown you. I was trying to get you to learn how to fight back.”
Hiccup sees that Dagur believes his words and he feels exasperation swirl through him.
“You suck at teaching. Never take up teaching as a job. It certainly felt like you wanted to kill me.”
His voice dips down into the growl. His teeth flash and his claws dig into the ground.
“I didn't. I-” Dagur turns and punches the wall, causing Hiccup to startle and flinch back. “I… Sorry. You're just so- Confusing Hiccup. I'm sorry.”
“I don't believe you are.”
Hiccup snarls and then darts out of the building, confused and a little scared. Dagur calls after him back Hiccup cannot tell what exactly the other teen saying. It does not really matter anyway. Right?

Blasphemy ask game:
What are things you look for in a fic?
Aside from Barry Allen, what characters do you like to read whump for?
Blasphemy/Sarcasm Ask Game
Oo thank you for asking!
Things I look for in a fic: FLUFF. I love fluff! I love seeing all of my favorite characters happy 100% of the time. No conflict, no angst, no whump— just nice, wholesome stories of characters having a good time. And since I mostly read Flash fics, it’s Barry especially that I don’t want to be sad, or get hurt, or kidnapped, or tortured, or pushed to his physical and/or mental limit until he cracks under the pressure— Nope! All happy and wholesome, all the time!!!
What characters do I like to read whump for: Well, as majorly implied above, I hate whump. But for the hypothetical reality where I don’t… I really like to whump villains, specifically, the ones who deserve it. I get why people like it, but I just can’t bring myself to any poor little heroes/MCs. It’s too mean! They deserve so much better!! The bad guys on the other hand… they’ve got it coming, and that makes them whumpable. If they hurt a character I like, it makes me want to hurt them, definitely not let them hurt that character even more! Unfortunately there isn’t much whump for them cause people like to whump the heroes (why??), but my favorite whumpees are: Hunter Zolomon, Eobard Thawne, Viggo Grimborn, Dagur the Deranged (those last two pre-redemption ofc), Lucifer (Spn), Adrian Chase, Darth Maul, and Wade Eiling.

thoughts on ryker?
10/10 he deserved more than he got
I found it quite refreshing that he was one of the few characters in the franchise who didn't feel the need to be melodramatic, he was quiet and efficient which imo is scarier. I wish he'd been given more character development or even just scenes of him doing his thing without the more 'visible' characters around (Viggo, Dagur, Hiccup, Heather etc) and it’s kinda sad that his own intelligence was was overshadowed by 'smart guy’ being Viggos entire schtick
Also Ryker is such a victim of narrative framing honestly. Like, the story from his perspective is:
works an exhausting/dangerous job and does it well (Knew a lot about the dragons he hunted ex: capturing stormfly & the snow wraiths)
ends up working with some nutcase and his sister who is clearly passing sensitive info to capable enemies
He wouldn't even be dealing with these enemies if it weren't for said nutcase bringing them to him
despite being one of two characters willing to do whats in the best interests of the tribe, and always following orders, he constantly gets belittled and called stupid by his brother (and gets no credit for his great ideas ex: sea shocker powerboat)
deals with this mistreatment for MONTHS while brother spends every waking moment obsessing over these enemies
finally gets sick of mistreatment (can't really blame him for instigating a coup at that point)
throws his brother in a hole
and then dies
From his perspective, Ryker did everything right and died for it because he didn't have plot armour
They did my mans so dirty lmao If the narrative frame wasn't centered on Hiccup and Viggo I think a lot more people would be rooting for Ryker

Opening Up
About opening up...Dagur kinda doesn't. (Spoilers ahead)
Tumblr media
This is something I've seen some fans talk about where they say Dagur would reveal personal information easily. I see where they're coming from with this. Looking at Dagur, I'd expect that too. He's outspoken, emotional, unrestrained, etc. He seems like someone who could randomly say, "I had a good cry today," and it wouldn't be anything surprising. HOWEVER, that changes for me when I look at the proof from the show. If Dagur was half as open about things as this would imply, then we wouldn't be forced to speculate so much about his past and the things that have happened to him. In another case of me spending too much time studying Dragons (probably. Still worth it), I tried to collect all the examples of Dagur sharing information. They have something in common. Each time, there's a specific reason. I'll go in chronological order.
In "Enemy of My Enemy," Dagur tells Hiccup how revenge can make you do things you didn't think you were capable. This was an interesting moment of really getting to see how the villain we saw Dagur be wasn't who he always was. It even shocked him how extreme his actions became. This has the potential to be some heavy stuff, but he didn't just outright say it for fun. He said it because he saw Hiccup going down that same path. This isn't, "I can't believe the things I've done and really need someone to talk to." It's, "I see you following in my footsteps and they led me in a terrible direction. I don't want that for you."
It takes Dagur F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to admit he didn't kill Oswald. Even as a good guy, he doesn't say it easily. In "Family on the Edge," he implies that something Heather said out of the sent her adrift, killed their dad, and tried to kill them list wasn't true, but he doesn't just say it. He writes it in the letter, admitting that and how he was worried that the other Berserkers wouldn't follow him otherwise. If he wanted to do it for emotional release reasons, he could've just said the first time or even told her way back when he thought they were on the same side. Rather than that, he puts it in a letter so that her final relative won't be quite as bad as she thinks he is.
In "Searching for Oswald...And Chicken," Dagur has two moments. First, he tells Heather how he's spent most of his life in varying stages of existential crisis. (Just wow for that. Wish we had heard more about it because that is quite the emotional load he nonchalantly dropped) Again, this clearly isn't to get something off his chest because it's not even something he brings up again. He just tells her so that she'll have proof he knows what is meaningless, hopefully getting her to stop throwing herself in harm's way to find Oswald. Later, he tells Hiccup he keeps anger, frustration, and rage to himself. This also isn't to share so much as to prove he can keep secrets and deserves to be trusted with the location of Vanaheim.
Then, we have "In Plain Sight." There, we find out he used to get bullied. He waited until as much of the last moment as possible to tell Fishlegs and Snotlout this. They had already flown from the Edge to Berserker Island and were literally walking down to meet Ansson. So, I don't think it's him wanting to share sensitive information. It's him knowing they're about to be there with the bully and since Ansson doesn't care about playing nice, it's going to be obvious that he used to bully him. This is just softening the blow a little by telling them first. Didn't really help, though, since they still laughed at him being called "Dainty." (Not cool even though I get how weird it would be to hear someone call him that)
Unless I'm mistaken, that's everything. I don't think there's another time when Dagur reveals something personal. Each of these had some deeper purpose. This is why I don't believe Dagur would start speaking about his past traumas without a prompt. Now, I'll say I do enjoy having him talk about this in stories and I support other writers who do. I just believe it takes a little nudge. He's not going to sit down next to someone and talk about his time in jail. He has literally never spoken about his time in jail in the entire show except the first RTTE episode to say that he spent 3 years thinking about Hiccup. So, it actually leaves a lot of room to be creative with what his past even has first, then what situation would get him to spill the beans.

Apon watching more episodes of rtte (again)I've been having thoughts.
Sibling thoughts.
For reference, Dagur tells Heather in a letter to take care of their little brother.
Aka: Hiccup.
So I have some thoughts for both the Berserker!Hiccup au and the cannon Hiccup, Dagur, Heather relationship. For now, I'm just going to focus on cannon. Berserker au gets its own post lmao.
Heather and Dagur regularly visiting Berk after the events of rtte. Most Hooligans are completely confused when Dagur picks Hiccup up calling him brother, and Heather joins in calling him "her favorite little brother."
Heather's complete confusion when she hears Dagur call Hiccup brother (this is when she first finds out she's related to him)
Hiccup having to explain that no, he isn't actually related to Dagur.
Heather completely disregarding this and joining Dagur in calling him her little brother (Hiccup pretends to hate it but he loves it. He always wanted siblings).
When Heather moved onto the edge, she naturally fell into the role of Hiccup's teasing older sister, even though they aren't technically related.
Dagur, Heather, and Hiccup racing their Dragons and having a no-holds-bar. They'll shoot at each other and block eachothers path if they have to.
Shattermaster absolutely adoring Hiccup.
The other riders just coming to terms with the fact that Hiccup has two older siblings now.
But yeah I've just been having thoughts about them. Hiccup deserves nice siblings.

Ao3 Wrapped 2024 - Writer's Edition
Questions taken from this list. I decided to go through and answer all of them rather than playing it as an ask game.
Putting them under a read more.
How many words have you written this year?
312,359. A little bit more than last year, and the year isn’t over yet!
How many works did you publish this year?
If my math is correct, 169.
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
You know, I’m not actually sure. 169 stories is a lot of stories to remember! I know I really like the two that I did outside of normal prose, like the sonnet about Hiccup from Dagur, and Heather’s list of revenge rules. The titles are “Winter’s wind will never chill your fire”, and “How to Seduce and Kill a Berserker”.
What work of yours has the most hits?
For this year? Our Time Together. But I started that one last year. If we go by fics that I started/wrote this year, that would be “Dragon Tamer”.
What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
Maybe Dead of Night or Seeds of Deceit. Those are some really dark fics, but they were received so well.
Favorite title you used
Seeds of Deceit because of all the symbolism in it.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
I don’t think I used any song lyrics to title my fics this year.
Pairing you wrote the most for this year?
Viggo/Hiccup. Again. Not a surprise.
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?
I wrote a lot more Heather/Dagur than I usually do this year. They’re both so complex and fucked up, so it was a lot of fun. Definitely up there as one of my favorites now. (Viggo/Hiccup, is obviously still my gluten free bread and butter.)
What work was the quickest to write?
No idea. Sometimes I bang things out in half an hour.
What work took you the longest to write?
Our Time Together is definitely taking a long time to write. The muse is not consistent with that one, sadly.
How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year?
Well, I want to work on my multichapter fics, so Our Time Together, Dead of Night, and Getting a Scar Out of It. I also definitely want to work on more bingo card fills! There are some Teen Wolf fics on the brain because February is Scott Appreciation Month and there’s a bingo card for that. My weakness.
What’s your longest work of the year?
Dead of Night, if we’re just counting works I started this year. 22,083 words. So far.
What’s your shortest work of the year?
“Winter’s wind will never chill your fire” with 108 words.
What WIP are you taking into next year with you?
All the multichapter fics I stated above.
What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?
Whump. Not surprised. In the slightest.
Your favorite character to write this year?
Well, you all know I like writing Hiccup, so let’s mix it up a little. I think either Astrid or Heather. Both women are so awesome and multifaceted. (And Heather deserves more love from the fandom, in my opinion.)
The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
Tuffnut, probably. He’s a weird one.
What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
Fennorian/Lyris from The Elder Scrolls Online. I need more with them.
Which work of yours have you reread the most?
Our Time Together, for a variety of reasons. A) It’s fun, and B) I need to reread to get the tone right for further chapters. (Because I usually have long pauses between writing chapters for that one.) I’ve also read a lot of the Any Fandom Goes Kink Bingo stories a few times. Kink is fun, folks!
How many kudos in total did you get this year?
9,868
Which work has the most comments?
Once again stuck with Our Time Together being the answer, but not having started it this year. Seeds of Deceit has the most comments out of the ones I started this year.
Did you do any collaborative works this year?
Yes! With @mdoodlerfandomart. I do believe the story was called Stubble. It was a lot of fun.
Did you write any gifts this year?
Yep!
Did you receive any gifts this year?
Also yes.
What’s your most common category?
Surprised to say that it was Gen rather than M/M, which is right below it.
What do you listen to while writing?
Playlists I’ve specifically made for the fics, usually. Or playlists that  have the same tone/mood I’m going for.
Favorite work you wrote this year?
Dead of Night
Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
No way in hell am I going to find one.
Biggest surprise while writing this year?
I’m not sure, really. Maybe the fact that writing actually took a lot more spoons than it usually does? I’m not writing as  much or as fast as I usually do. Which, I’m trying not to be a perfectionist about.
But oh! A good one! The Augusnippets challenge showed me that I can still be very impactful with very few words. That was a lot of fun.

Note
"Why?" she asked, "There are absolutely zero reasons for you to feel 'responsible' for me- if I was an actual Berkian that would be a completely different story, but I'm not" she stated, her voice firm but not angry.
"Wait- pause" she said while putting her hand out, "How are they your allies and my fathers allies? One, I've never met them, and two, you and my father have completely different beliefs, it just doesn't add up" she said, her voice laced with skepticism, "And for the record, my goal is to go somewhere either where dragons are being managed, not kept as pets or friends or whatever- so probably one of my dads allies, not yours, or somewhere where I can just be alone" she said while looking up at him.
"If I want to train I'm pretty sure I could just do it by myself- no disrespect to Astrid, I just don't want to be training with deadly weapons with someone that I don't know that could easily split my skull with their axe" she said.
"Because--" He took in a breath and started pacing, thinking. His words came out in a quick burst, a little loud, but only because he was trying to sort out his own thoughts. "Because I care about what happens to you. Because, the battle left you an orphan." He stopped pacing , facing her. "Because... I want to make things right, if I can."
He let his breathing slow back to normal before speaking again, his tone now lower, despite being slightly uneven. "What you told me in the Great Hall, about what it was like for you, what you've been through? I can't just sit back and let you go back to a life like that. You deserve better than that, Danny."
He sighed. "That, is a very long story. It was only an idea to bounce off of you. Like I said, they were allied with the dragon hunters some years ago, but things changed. Dagur changed. I thought they might be a good fit for you, but, we don't have to keep that going."
Ah. That's what he thought might happen. "Understood. If you change your mind, let me know. Astrid is the best combatant we have, if you insist on going on your own, wouldn't it be best to have every tool you could get in your arsenal?"
He quickly brushed the remaining dirt off of his hands, heading back towards the dragons, who were waiting patiently. "Okay. I'll be back in about two hours, then I'll show that tactic I mentioned earlier." He petted both dragons, and the two of them leaned into his touch happily. "Did you want to meet back right here, or in the cove? I can't remember where we decided on." Truthfully? He did forget. But, giving her the choice of where to meet seemed like the right way to go.

Lmao here, the chapter has been posted:
Quakens. I’ve never met a Quaken dragon before, not until a few weeks ago, when we came across them on an island. We were supposed to be on a rescue mission for dragons on ships, it did end up being a rescue mission, but instead it was also a recon and rescue mission. We had split up before this, Snotlout, Rhea, Heather and Astrid went to follow the ship to where it was going. Hiccup, Fishlegs, the twins, Torsten and I stayed on the island.
The Quakens were being used as destructive tools, as if they were nothing but their own personal tools. It was like the Quakens didn’t think they were anything but that as well… It breaks my heart to see such beautiful creatures in chains, convinced their only use is to follow orders… nothing and no one deserves that kind of treatment.
I almost killed the Dragon Hunters on that island if Fishlegs had held me back, my mask on and watching them shake in terror as they stared at me… good, it is what they deserve for such a treatment to beautiful creatures.
The island was unstable due to the marble mine and the slams from the Quakens. The shaking we were experiencing was from the island mostly, it was all the Dragon Hunters’ fault. We had tried to convince the Dragon Hunters to leave willingly but they sent the Quakens at us, with a single attack they took down a lot, debris from the mine falling down and making some of the landing unstable.
Fishlegs had figured out a way to get the Quakens to listen. It was all in the giant hammer, the Quakens seemed to follow commands when the hammer was used. Unfortunately the island was too unstable to stay on, with the Quakens following us and the island erupting behind us as we flew away, we met up for the others.
A stronghold… Viggo was building a stronghold to withstand dragons… or contain them. So we flew to the island and Fishlegs commanded the Quakens to destroy the mostly built stronghold. It brings me great pleasure to see it be destroyed, reduced to nothing but rubble and debris.
Fishlegs had set the Quakens free, I did end up petting one, caressing the scales of the dragon as they purred happily at the affection. We flew them to Dark Deep. I showed more of my affection to the dragons before we them there in their retirement. I could understand why Fishlegs was so affectionate to Meatlug before this, but I understand it even more now.
I do, kinda?, have my own Gronckle, but I wouldn't say he’s mine solely because of the fact that I don't ride him. I’ve grown used to playing with that Gronckle, from what I can tell, he has a weird playing style, often stealing my shirt and enjoying a good game of cat and mouse between us. Meatlug doesn’t steal shirts but she steals smaller items, very obviously she gives them back after the game is over but Fishlegs mentioned it was just a friendly dragon thing some of the more friendlier dragons do to bond.
I still don’t have a letter for Dagur, all the words I write just… they don’t turn out right, they don’t sound like how I want them to sound. I… I don't like showing others how vulnerable I can be and talking, or well… writing to Dagur seems to make me feel that way. I feel safe writing to him, but… imagining him reading my letter to him… it feels… weird… like, a burning and wriggling sensation in my stomach, my heart pounding hard in my chest, my face burning and my palms sweaty with nerves.
Bon the Ruthless doesn’t get nervous, The Bear doesn’t feel that either. I’m just overthinking it at this point. I should just write out a letter, it doesn't matter if it isn’t perfect, and send it to him… but what do I write? What should I tell him? Does… Would he even care? Dagur makes me nervous. I want the letter to be perfect, for if it isn’t perfect then it isn’t worthy of his time to read. He didn’t ask any questions, where do I begin with my letter?
